Brooke ‘Pup’ Thompson

Cod OC Story

Pup opened another bear trap placing it behind a tree. Surely her plan would attract the attention of the Task Force. Still she would keep moving, if only to protect herself. A horse was already ready and waiting with some basic supplies. Enough for her to get to the next town, get the supplies she would need, and keep going. Trying to reach out to the 141 had too much risk, but if she sent out a clear signal… they would find her.

Pup had only her hiking backpack for a while and she had been stuffing it with whatever she could fit in there. The cabin was a safe house she knew well enough, the same one she’d stayed in when she first met the 141. It had only been a few months since Pup had left it. Plenty of items she could still use from the shed. Most of the tools were for hunting simply a difference in prey.

Another trap laid, and some snow brushed around it. Getting the white paint had certainly been a good plan, as it kept the giant teeth somewhat concealed. They would come at night, if they came at all. The riskiest part would come at the end, before she left the cabin for good.

Pup, or rather Brooke made her way back to the cabin, being sure to step over any of the trip wires she had set up. Putting the fishing line at higher heights would certainly throw them off. The sun was setting over her work and before stepping into the cabin she looked back and gave a smirk to her work.

Leo greeted her at the door, and she made sure to feed him. Of course he would come along with her. Leo was an older dog, but he had been with her almost day one, coming along with Dimitri. She wouldn’t leave the old hound. Brooke fed him properly, and gave him his medicine. The little bugger tried not to eat it, but she wouldn’t let him get away with it. There was some pinning between the legs, and some rebellious growls.

By the time night hit she’d eaten, gotten some sleep, and even watched a few shows. Brooke got her winter gear on, and finished saddling the horse. Then gave the lead to Leo. One command, and he knew where to go. If there was ever an emergency it was where he was supposed to take her. In the meantime Brooke got her pack on and set the timer on the fire place, but not before breaking the glass. It should work. Then she went to the oven, packing up what leftovers she had of the stew. Brooke heard the sounds of distant vehicles, maybe snow mobiles or something similar. She had to move quickly.

After getting her pack just outside the door, she got the gasoline from the shed, and poured it around the room, especially the kitchen, where the back door was. Then she went back to the fireplace to adjust the time by a few minutes. Finally she turned up the stove. With a final look back, Brooke rushed out the front door, but not before taking the hunting rifle next to it.

Brooke circled around the cabin, to the back, letting the cabin fill itself. As an extra measure she made to set the dial on the toaster, but hadn’t pulled down the lever yet. Soap might’ve been proud of her were he there. Brooke posted up around the corner of the building, waiting for them. Through the doors and she was home free. For a short while maybe. But still. It would get Laswell’s attention, and from there, Watcher could direct the Captain to Brooke. It would send a message to the cartel as well.

She was done.

Brooke wanted her freedom and not just running away and hoping no one would chain her up and try to sell her or force her to sell drugs. She wanted to fight back, properly. Pup didn’t want to wait for a court date or an arrest. The 141 had shown her how to run, how to fight, and how to be safe… they also taught her how to live. Dimitri taught her how to survive and to keep going.

There was a snapping gore sound, followed by a cry. Brooke took aim and shot towards the sound. It was too dark to see anything, but she got close, hearing some wood splintering. A few more shots. She just needed them to come after her. A few got clotheslined when they ran up to the cabin. Brooke still had time and but didn’t reach for the door. A quick glance at her watch. She had to hurry.

“Come get me assholes!” She yelled.

There was more shouting as they came after her. Brooke hurried inside, and ran down the short hall, shutting the door. Loud enough for them to hear too. Once she heard the door open, she went out through the window, staying low, and watching the rest head inside, before making a hard break for it. One thing was on her mind.

RUN!

It didn’t take long for her to find the emergency rendezvous. Brooke mounted and whistled for Leo to take off, and spurring the horse forward, getting into a hard sprint. There were too many men for them to follow her through the window so they would have to move through the cabin. They would get stuck at the front door. And then the timer would go off. The fireplace would spark. Gasoline and propane fumes had filled the the place enough by now.

BOOM!

Brooke had gotten out of there just in time. The cabin exploded. She didn’t stop and kept the horse in an even gallop.

The 141 stood in front of the monitor seeing the explosion from news feeds and now a drone. Brooke was a high profile asset, a key witness to the cartel’s crimes and activities. She was young, but valuable. As each of them look at the screen and hear the reports there is a mix of emotions. Mostly concern and some anxiousness. Was she still alive? Who did this?

“Brooke’s body wasn’t found.” Laswell reported.

“They’re sure?” Kyle asked.

“Each one of the bodies is a full grown adult, male and female but none fit Brooke’s build or form.” Laswell stated.

“Do we know where Brooke is?” Price asked next.

“…you boys taught her well. Where would she go?” Laswell replied. The men shared looks, all of them knowing the best place to start looking.

“When do we leave?” Ghost asked. Each of them turned their attention to Laswell.

“Wheels up in 15.”

Brooke kept moving, the closest town being pretty small, with horses being uncommon but not rare. Good. She didn’t want too much attention drawn to her. Brooke was exhausted after the past couple of nights. It wasn’t too cold out but it was enough to make her seek shelter. A motel probably, but they might find her there. For now, food was needed. She was starving.

Right now Brooke needed something warm to drink. After finding a place that was fine with her parking a horse she went inside, and sat down, taking off some of her winter gear to breathe. The chair was a welcome cushion after being on the saddle for so long. Without warning, someone approached the table and Brooke tensed. Waitress or not it was a gamble in such a dead cafe. Anyone was her enemy. The woman set down a cup of tea, one of those large cups, filled with green tea.

“I didn’t order this.” Brooke told the barista.

“A nice man paid for it, told me to give it to a girl with a scar across her face.” She put simply before walking away. Brooke called her back over, before she could walk away too far.

“Is the man still here?” She asked, keeping her voice down. The woman gestured to a man in a brown coat, with his back to her.

“Thank him for me?” She asked.

“Already did honey.” The barista walked away again. Brooke kept her head down, and sipped the drink. God she needed that. Soon the man in the brown coat joined her.

“That was bloody reckless.” He stated, sitting down.

“Sorry Captain.” She said.

“Stop apologizing.” Price said sitting down across from her. “A horse though? Quieter I’ll give ya that- Oi!”

Leo growled at Price, not appreciating the accidental step to the ribs. Brooke hushed the K9, who returned to his position.

“Anyways, the explosion wasn’t bad.” Price continued. “Fishing line was a bit amateur.”

“What did Soap think of the explosion?” Brooke asked. Price tried to fight his smile. “Do I have matcha on my face?”

“No. He had some guesses.” Price said. “How are you feeling?”

“Tired… nervous… hungry.” Brooke admitted.

“Finish the drink, we have work to do.” Price said.

America’s Fittest City Will Surprise You

If you adoration metropoli life and require a health life-style, jam-pack your handbags and head for our nation’s capital.

For the third time in a row, in agreement with the American Fitness Index, Washington , D.C ., has ranked number one as the fittest major municipality in America.

The annual report, published by the American College of Sports Medicine , measures health and fitness levels in 50 of the country’s major metropolitan areas. Researchers rank the cities by looking at obesity, smoking and diabetes frequencies, as well as access to health environmental influences, such as farmers groceries, parks and recreational facilities.

Overall, the U.S. has visualized a shift toward healthier life-styles since last year’s report. The amount of parties inhaling lowered 4.7 percent, the number of diabetes-related deaths dropped 7.4 percent, and twice as many territories had policies that required academies to educate physical education.

The investigates likewise found that the policies and physical layout of a city can determine how health its residents will be.

“Cities with a built-in medium that supports people who want to be healthy, generally have a healthier person, ” Walter Thompson, professor of kinesiology and health at Georgia State University and AFI advisory board member, told The Huffington Post.

“Cities that fall on the low-spirited aim of our higher-rankings have the opposite of that, ” he included. “They don’t have the same number of parks, their cities aren’t walkable, or they don’t expend just as much fund[ conserving] their parks.”

D.C ., for example, wastes $346 per tenant on park-related spendings, and 96.3 percent of inhabitants live within a 10 -minute tread to a common. Compare that to the report’s lowest grading metropoli, Indianapolis, which merely invests $24 per resident on ballpark upkeep and had recently 31.6 percentage of the whole population living near a park.

The American College of Sports Medicine embarked publishing the AFI report in 2008 so policy makers could see what the country’s fittest cities are doing differently and use that info in their own city planning.

The organization produces the report with a downloadable Community Action Guide so that community leaders and inhabitants can represent significant changes in their municipality and boost public health initiatives.

Thompson was of the view that occupants in municipalities like Charlotte — which has moved up from No. 43 in 2014 to No. 39 in 2016 — have used the AFI guide to invigorate change.

“A few years ago, the people of Charlotte wanted to see more farmers sells, ” Thompson told Huffpost. So some grassroots make-ups came together and are “now a strong voice to the city and to the mayor. They are requiring change and the mayor’s listening.”
