RYMDEN - Valleys and Mountains
After their previous excursions into the outer cosmos - the highly acclaimed studio albums "Reflections and Odysseys", "Space Sailors" and the powerful live album "RYMDEN+KORK" - RYMDEN have returned to Earth with their new album, “Valleys and Mountains”. However, as one might expect from the trio of Bugge Wesseltoft, Magnus Öström and Dan Berglund, the music is not strictly earthbound - the inner cosmos, dreams and visions offer new spaces to explore, alongside bucolic rambles and treks. The instrumentation and techniques are once again diversified, the styles multiplied; yet all remains indisputably the music of RYMDEN. There is a dual sense of nostalgia and hope for the future, a feeling of rediscovery replacing loss. There is an awareness of the natural world and our place within it, the part it plays in our lives, and how our lives are simply part of something greater than ourselves.

Wesseltoft / Schwarz – Duo
” …Wesseltoft comes from a jazz background and has moved towards electronic music. He started on the ECM label with Jan Garbarek, and later collaborated with club music legends like Laurent Garnier and Francois Kervorkian on stage. Schwarz comes from the Chicago/ Detroit techno culture, and performs at music festivals and in clubs on all continents. He has been moving towards the jazz and improvisation. Henrik: “Bugge and myself are moving towards each other, there are these energies.”
… All the technical marvels in the world count for nothing unless they are in the hands of people with genuine musical talent, and it is the respective talents of Bugge Wesseltoft and Henrik Schwarz that Fate must have been observing when they were brought together. After listening, fans of each artist will undoubtedly hope for more in the future.” – Badcamp.

“Imagine a song that captures the feeling of a thunderstorm transforming into a sunny day?“ by The Vinyl Digest “Imagine a song that captures the feeling of a thunderstorm transforming into a sunny day?“ „Dreaming“ by Bugge Wesseltoft and Henrik Schwarz, found in the album „Duo,“ beautifully conveys the sensation of a thunderstorm giving way to a sunny day. The song’s fusion of electronic and jazz elements mirrors this transformation, making it a harmonious representation of the shift in weather and mood. @buggewesseltoft @henrikschwarzlive @mulemusiq via YouTube https://youtu.be/yLt9xmWOSK8

Fano Jazz By The Sea 2023
Rymden & Kork - Bugge Wesseltoft’s piano trio (with E.S.T.’s Magnus Öström and Dan Berglund) plus orchestra (Jazzland)
Since forming in 2018 RYMDEN has established itself as one of the leading piano trios to ever emerge from the Nordic Jazz scene. All three members bring with them long-confirmed and lauded histories as innovators in jazz: Berglund and Öström via the Esbjörn Svensson Trio and their own projects (Tonbruket and Magnus Öström Band respectively); Wesseltoft via his New Conception of Jazz and other projects. Now, after several albums and many concerts, they meet KORK, an orchestra capable of responding to the trifold creative power that RYMDEN vigorously generates. KORK, for over three-quarters of a century has followed its own musical curiosity across genres, from "standard" orchestral repertoire, both classical and contemporary, to jazz, rock, and pop. Through close association with NRK, KORK has been heard across the world through its participation in the annual Nobel Peace Prize concert and the Eurovision Song Contests in 1986 and 1996. The combination of RYMDEN and KORK brings even greater contrast to music that already had its fair share of light and shade and brings a broader textural palette that enriches and defamiliarizes the compositions. These new arrangements expand on their source material, creating a different musical world without sacrifice of its original spirit. The compositions, already filled with drama or meditative passages, menace or light-hearted humour, rhythmic drive or fragmentary expression, are repainted, sometimes with the lightest of nuanced touches, other times with densely layered maximalism. Where the collaboration of RYMDEN and KORK may have been unexpected for some, the perfect alignment of the results suggest that it was inevitable.

AllMusic Staff Pick: Banda Maluca / Joyce / Bugge Wesseltoft Just a Little Bit Crazy
This 2003 set melds the artist’s standard, primarily acoustic approach to electronic keyboard wizardry of Bugge Wesseltoft. He and drummer Tutty Moreno construct a series of spacy bossa and jazz soundscapes with gorgeous reed and woodwind work from Nailor Proveta and Teco Cardoso. They float inside Joyce's well-constructed melodies, while her glorious guitar playing and Rodolfo Stroeter’s bass form the backdrop for these 13 breezy bossas and sambas. Her deft vocal delivery effortlessly weds Brazilian pop and jazz improvisation to elevate these wonderful tunes to unprecedented levels of warmth and sophistication.
