Hi hi!
So I'm planning on making a CB cosplay to enter into a contest this year. I'm basing the cosplay circa 2013-2017, think Daniel Ellison, and I'm on the struggle bus with some of the garments. I could really use your help figuring out the materials they used for the jacket/shoulder boxes, the legs warmers, and the belt. I have so much love for this character and I want to do him justice. If you have any idea on how to help I will give you credits in my build book.
Red Caboose! Love the boose! And it just so happens most of my photos are 2014 or 2016, so right on the money for you.
This was at the open day 2016, I believe the guy in costume is one of the dressers, demonstrating how it all goes together. So useful!

It still blows my mind that materials are just - marketed for cosplayers now! I've not used this particular company, but as an example of ease of access of EVA foam.
The torso and shoulders are made of EVA-type foam, covered with vinyl, something like fablon... I'm sure somewhere I got better photos on how the shoulders attach to the top, pretty chunky hooks.

What I love about these photos is that the costume doesn't really fit him, it's too big, and that shows us all the details that would be so much more subtle normally!

Here's two refs from 2014, with the shoulders on a stand. I'm pretty sure the white we're seeing is the stand, not part of the costume. And here's a display from 2005 - can just make out the heavy duty snaps inside the shoulder straps. Also got a look inside the belt - but it's not very revealing! also the glare on the glass was so annoying...

The belt - well, we can't see a whole lot. I will guess that the black part is leather, for strength, with mouded latex decoration on the front - and probably painted EVA foam top and bottom? Then lined with canvas, that much we can see for sure, with the D rings for attaching the jacket - those also riveted through. the handles are on a separate back panel, buckles on both sides, just plain black leather.

Caboose's legs are much softer than some others, coaches or components for example. It'll be spandex, stretch satin, and I think just quilted over something like filter foam! the satin is glossy enough to still give some definition to the shape. Filter foam rather than batting, as it is much better to wash and dry quickly.
Hope that helps! I can't find much more on his legs I'm afraid. Good luck with the cosplay!

The Holiday House Ch3
By the time this gets posted, I'll be 2 hours in with my exam and I've got one hour left. Then I've got a 30 minute bus ride before I get home... so it'll be ages before I can actually check out this post Why was the hardest part of writing this fic the actual world-building itself!? Why did I go for such a complex house!? God!!
Chapter 1 | Chapter 2
It's a small triple story loft.
The main floor was an open plan that had almost everything. As soon as Scott walked in, he was met by a C shaped kitchen to his left of decent size. In front of him was an open walkway that led to the dipped living room before ending its destination to the storage room where maintenance tools are kept and displayed on a large pegboard and emergency supplies are hidden behind closed cabinets. Alongside the emergency cabinet is a shelf with an emergency generator as well as an emergency heating unit. Scott wondered for a second about why the fancy heater was stored here until his father explained without needing to be asked.
"It's an off-grid house that uses a solar-geothermal climate system that works without wires." Dad mentioned.
As he opened the cabinet, he noticed two cylinder tanks beside the shelving unit of the cabinet. "Hot water tanks?" He turned to his dad.
"There's more of those across the house." Jeff grinned in response. "There's also geothermal floor heating system, a back-up solar heating system, compost heating systems, thermal curtains, you walked past the fireplace already, and some emergency mylar blankets in-case all else fails." He nearly barked a laugh when he noticed his son's shocked face. "I know you said you wanted no electricity, but you never said anything about no over-engineering, Son."
They made their way out of the storage room and backtracked into the open floor, Scott wanted to the see the kitchen properly now, but his father stopped him midway to point at the fireplace.
"Now I know you said no electricity but-" He pointed at a fancy back panel settled over top of the fireplace. "That's an emergency comms system, it runs similarly to the one in my office at the Auckland Branch… Assuming you know how to use that one."
"I can get behind that."
Out of habit, Scott knocked on the walls while passing through the living room and concluded that the house was heavily insulated. The second he reached the kitchen; his father spoke again.
"That's a pantry over there right at the end of the kitchen, it's big enough to last a week's worth of food, which is good cause that means you'll get to make weekly visits back to the villa for groceries." Then he added, "Regular check-ins will give your grandma a peace in mind."
"That's cool." Scott mindlessly answered, walking over to the end of the kitchen to open the pantry cabinet.
"There's a manual coffee grinder, and a hand-crank blender for your coffee and smoothies. You also have a wood burning stove and a solar oven. Over here is your iron skillet and—" Jeff opened the front door and leaned out to check something before coming back inside to say "—You've got more water storage than you'll ever need."
"'s'a bit much…" Scott shrugged.
"That's the point, Scooter!" The old man huffed. "It's a holiday! Gotta treat it like one!"
"Alright…" There's no point trying to win against his father. "So… where's the bedroom?" He gestured to the stuffed navy duffel bag in his hand, its weight was beginning to take a toll on his shoulder, and he was hoping to drop it as soon as got inside but completely forgot he was holding it during the tour.
Jeff twirled around the sink and led Scott to a sturdy wooden ladder stationed between the kitchen island and the wall that takes them up to the third floor. "Just up here, it's a bit small compared to your bedroom but it's warm and comfy."
"You sure you should be climbing this thing, old man?" Scott followed his father upwards.
"Oh, ha ha."
Note to self: Unlike the villa, this house isn't accessible to mobility aid users… At all.
The bedroom was about the same size as the kitchen considering it pretty much matched the ground floor. There was a double bed with what looked like more than one layer of blankets over top of it, a fluffy rug beneath his feet and at the corner of the room was a wardrobe. Handrails surrounded the void above the dipped living room, from this height, Scott couldn't help but admire not only the choice of furniture for the living room, but also the view beyond it, where the wall of glass displayed the sunset amongst the oceans.
"This place is really nice in Golden Hour." Jeff commented.
The temporarily retired rescue operative wasted no time dumping his bag onto the fancy bed as Jeff walked past the round the corner. Another walkway parallel to the one underneath leads to a balcony sliding door. Following his father, they stepped out to the sounds of ocean waves and seagulls before Jeff quickly pushed his son back inside. "Now we go upstairs again." He turned around to another ladder set at the wall.
The third floor was a singular room at the top surrounded by large windows and a balcony.
"I didn't really get much furniture sorted in here." Jeff gestured at the roundtable in the centre of the room. "I was thinking of getting you a swing or a hammock by the window with the best sunlight, but… I don't know…"
"Couldn't find the right one?"
"Yeah, nothing felt right for the space."
"I'll figure something out." Scott shrugged. "This is nice though." He settled down on one of the wooden chairs at the roundtable, it had soft cushion to it embroidered with flowers.
"Thanks, it was a group effort to make this work, you know."
"I'm aware, Dad."
They paused, at some point Jeff found himself joining Scott at the table right next to him. "There's a trail system surrounding the house that tracks down through the trees and across majority of the best spots on the island." He waited for the words to register in Scott's head before continuing. "You already know that emergency beacons are dispersed all over the island, so if something happens, you can call."
Scott nodded. "Okay… And where's the bathroom?"
"There is no bathroom here, it's in a separate building right next to the house. It looks like a wood shack, but I promise you, it's the fanciest mini-spa-house you'll ever find."
"Oh." Scott shivered. "Great. So, if I need to go, I have to run outside first."
Jeff chuckled. "You'll live." He stood up. "Anyways, I should head off now. As soon as I make it back, I'm going to give you a call to make sure the emergency comms are working, then I'll leave you to it. Remember, it's only six months. You can manage six months. I expect you to spend those months having fun, do some parachuting, rock climbing, waterskiing… Whatever. This is a holiday, I want you to exploit it."
"-Alright, Dad! I hear you! No over-working and have fun. I get it!" Scott grinned. "I'm not that dull."
"Your brothers would say otherwise, Scott."
Scott chuckled. "That's fair…" They would. "Speaking of which, I forgot to talk to them about this bet thing-."
"Leave that to me, Son."
"You sure? I mean it's my holiday."
"Just get some rest, Scott. I'll worry about the family later."
"If you say so."
Within seconds, Jeff had left the house, a click symbolised his parting and Scott climbed down to the second floor. Aware enough to avoid the duffel bag, he leaped onto the new blue bed that recoiled from his force.
"Small" Dad called it. This house was anything but small. It's big, not as big as the villa, but definitely bigger than the average holiday cottage from Scott's childhood memories.
This place was simple, but beautiful. Designed with wood and stone, big windows, and quiet spaces. Most importantly, to Scott's regret, this place was nearly completely electricity free.
Scott's eyes widen as he eyes the ceiling. "What the hell…"
Chapter 4: It's been two days since the last anyone's heard from Scott, according to Virgil.
This is the end of the chapter, but I'm gonna put a keep reading thing here because I have some lazy 4am sketches of the loft to show off.
So about the bathroom thing..
I actually forgot to add one, so i decided to turn the wood shack into a mini-spa
the things that are highlighted in light blue are the things that dont exist yet but are going to exist in future chapters.
like I said... it was 4am
here is the ground floor with the kitchen, the living room and the storage room:
then this is the bedroom right above that, Scott's going to make his own changes to the loft and remove the handrails to build hammock net so that he can sunbathe up there
the final floor is actually called a sunroom, Scott's gonna get rid of the roundtable and just chuck in as much comfy furniture as he can up there (with Virgil's help of course)
like i said, I really hate world building im pretty sure if you were to try and turn this floor plan into an actual 3D design, it would look ugly. also im not going to let go of the fact that my dumb ass forgot the bathroom. i still cant believe i did that lol
but hey! i drew stuff! feel free to use your imagination!
#this fanfic is a solo act and i didnt know i would hate that#i cant wait for the fun chapters#Scott Tracy goes on an unwarranted vacation#thunderbirds#thunderbirds fanfiction#thunderbirds 2015#thunderbirds are go#scott tracy#jeff tracy#I CAN FINALLY MOVE ON TO THE MORE FUN CHAPTERS

I'd like to take a moment to talk about the season 8 Alfea refurb.
Season 8 sees not only the largest shift in art direction of any season of Winx, WoW included, it also sees a complete rebuild of Alfea, and while I do like some parts of the refurbishment, it does a couple of things that make me go “hmmmm.”
The biggest one of these is the destruction of the courtyard/quad's baby elephant paths*.
(*Misuse of the term "Baby Elephant paths" here, a Baby Elephant Path, also called a Desire path, is a path that is created by people continuously using what is often the shortest or easiest route regardless of whether or not it is a paved path, often causing dead grass and dirt tracks in lawns as they move across areas or through gardens. The term here is used in place of anything better, because the original Alfea courtyard layout contains paths that would likely be a closer match to the true Baby Elephant Paths if the courtyard wasn't pre-paved.)
In season 8 the 10 panels of grass are swapped out for 16 gardens arranged into a... well I suppose sea shell would be a good word. A dragonfly-wing clam-shell.
And it looks fantastic, but it also completely ruins the path finding of the courtyard.
Chucking it under a cut because it does go on a bit.
While each of the 8 dragonfly wings of this shell allow students to travel from the staircase of the central building outwards towards the two mirrored side buildings, and each wing is segmented into two, in order to allow a squiggly path to cross from one grass display next to the central stairs, around in a horse-shoe-like loop to the other grass display beside the central stairs.
Originally, the staircases that bridge the courtyard's level and the elevated platform in front of the central building are also affected by this renovation. Before season 8, there were 4 staircases.
The original central staircases were separated by a slim garden that rose along the incline like a pretty dividing rail, then two more staircases rose along the sides of the mirrored buildings. These outer staircases were separated by wide steps of grass. Good for sitting, laying, or feral student 'parkour.'
The grass panels that made up the courtyard were (and as of season 8, still are somewhat) surrounded on all four sides by wide paths that allow students to skirt along any of the building, fountain area or outer fence line without stepping on the grass.
Further, the original grass panels, though they did get upgrades like lights and small hedges as the series went on, were easy to walk over or lounge on them between classes, the season 8 grass sections have larger hedges, and a student would either have to put a bit of effort into jumping over them, or access the much smaller grass area through the open side along the squiggly path.
The path finding of the original court yard layout was also much more accommodating.
The original layout had two direct paths intersecting it, one from the front gate to the central building (actually to the wide fountain area where it would be easy to park a bus for students to (dis)embark for school trips,) and one from the central door of one mirrored building to the other across from it.
Further, it has three baby elephant type paths, that accommodate for paths that are likely to see a lot of foot traffic throughout the day.
One from the gate area to the central doors of the mirror building, one from the fountain area to the central doors of the mirrored building, and one from the front of the mirrored buildings (or the front of the covered walkways, not the tower door) to the front gate.
While the season 8 layout allows direct travel from the front gate to the fountain/central building, it has none of the other direct access pathways. The season 8 gardens would enforce circular travel around certain wedges or for the students to jump the hedges as they move from one building to another.
The season 8 gardens assume travel directions to and from the fountain.
So yes, it's pretty, but it's not really functional for a school. It's more the type of fancy garden you'd find at an estate or museum grounds. Something to wow visitors, not something for students to enjoy or use the space.
The court yard's main pathway is also a lot slimmer than the earlier seasons, which makes sense, since season 8 Alfea is overall, much smaller and shorter. But it Boggles me when I stop and really try to compare what that means, visually:

And that's just the courtyards in overlap. Season 8 Alfea's buildings could probably fit (if snuggly) within the season 1-7 courtyard without removing the season 8 courtyard. (The external garden areas (now with pools and gazebos) might not make it though...)
Speaking of the building:
In early seasons, the covered walkways possessed an arched ceiling hidden by facing, but below that it was possible to see a full length door. Basic slap-dash calculations suggest that Alfea's mirrored buildings sit at a height of up to 20 meters, not including the attic peaks on both sides (above the glass domes above the central doors, aka: stella's closet space.) because the space between the ground and the bottom of the balconies of the long windows that line the buildings is at least three-to-four times the height of the doors.
I previously put forward a theory that there were mezzanine levels, and split levels, within the building, but that it was fundamentally 5 floors (not including Stella's attic which would make it 6). And this didn't bother me all that much, we've seen that at least some classrooms have mezzanine walkways, and pretty high ceilings, we often see the high vaulted ceilings in the halls.
And it makes sense, because this is a school for fairies, and fairies fly. So of course they'd have enough room in a classroom to practice something while flying, of course you could fly down some of the halls without buzzing people on the ground, that makes sense with the context.
But season 8 Alfea? Is much, much shorter.
From the ground to the bottom of the balconies? Is two doors if that.

Meaning the height of the externally visible ground and second floor is not between six and nine meters, but four meters tops. Possibly closer to three.
More than that, where once there were three doors and two and a half banks of windows between the central doors and the tower doors that marked the ends of the walkway, there is now only two doors and two large windows on one side of the central doors, and one door and two large windows on the other.
Estimated length of season 8's walkway is around 16m from one end to the edge of the central door's area. My prior season 1 estimate has that same stretch at up to 30 meters.

The upper section and floors of the back towers are missing entirely to make the tower shorter than the main blue roof of the mirrored buildings. In addition the lower floors where the combat exam areas and magical reality chamber outer chambers are suspected to be, are slimmed down to the point I doubt there are any substantial rooms in them.
The front towers are missing external doors because they are now too narrow around.
I honestly don't know that the mirroed buildings are even wide enough, courtyard side to fence side, to hold more than one row of classrooms per floor, let alone two.
In early seasons, counts of students seen in wide shots, like the dining hall, counts of individual classes, and parties, often leave us around 50-70 students. I don't think I'm the only one who assumes that that's not an accurate count, that there's probably some day students (even though it's a boarding school) or seniors out on work experience, or just not everyone is in that one shot, and we're working with a medium that is given to copy-paste crowds, but generally, it feels like Alfea can fit an average student body of 70 and have wiggle room for more.
Season 8 Alfea makes me go "I don't think this place will fit an average body of 60 students."
Season 1 of Winx Club saw Alfea host not just the students but also the teachers of Alfea, Cloud Tower and Red Fountain at the same time during the Trix's siege. Lets assume the schools have a flatline average of students, that's still 150 at a minimum. 210 max if we assume there are no other students who come and go and throw off the numbers.
Plus the staff, which is at least 5 known teachers between Cloud Tower and Red Fountain, and at least 8 for Alfea. So Add in 13 Teachers.
Season 8 Alfea does not have the space, it cannot host that many people.
Maybe it could, maybe it's a more realistic building, maybe the internal structures make sense, but I've spent so long trying to wrap my brain around season 1-7 Alfea that I just... I can't with season 8 Alfea.
The Things about the Season 8 Alfea refurb I do like:
The glass dome on the mirrored buildings has a semi visible interior, which could be used as a green-house/sun room, where the earlier seasons it was just sort of there and high vaulted on the inside up to like, half way the large balcony windows. Like there doesn't look like there's anything in there from the outside, but it could be a good inside green space. or for hanging out washing on rainy days.
The big light under it is also pretty nice, kind of sunny/sunflower aesthetic.
I also love the detailing in the windows and doors, it's super cute and feels like a low-key fairy aesthetic next to basically flat green doors (I've been assuming the early season doors are at least partly green coloured glass paneling in the dorms)
The upside-down flower lights lining the external walkways are life giving, tbh. I need them.

the soulmate factory ➥ teaser [sungchan]

➥ teaser word count: 1.3k | full fic: 28.9k ➥ warnings: none for the teaser! ➥ genre: angst heavy at the beginning then fluff, science fantasy au, soulmate au (red string), speculative fiction, star crossed lovers, a little mystery-ish, artist sungchan ➥ estimated release: wednesday, february 14, 2024 6:00 p.m. eastern time
Swiping your badge at the access panel, the door clicked to unlock, and you pushed it open. There were a couple of other matchmakers already in there, who didn’t offer you a single glance or any indication that they were even aware of your presence. Sitting at your station, you were face-to-face with a quaintly archaic-looking computer. Compared to the newest monitors at every desk in the main bullpen, which could display images in a resolution so crisp it was hard to tell the difference between that and real life, the small, square glass and pixelated text that was in front of you seemed so out of place. But this was the system.
Pressing the Enter button on your keyboard, your screen came to life, already giving you your first match.
N!#83LPd5D4ZR$PYQ^KLT6WnY##4GYVm74v^f@96#q#hheeRYgLLf3Ft9KQw
‘Matchmaker’ was a misnomer, really. You didn’t set people up to be soulmates whatsoever. The computer gave you the results, all you did was read them. Take the seemingly random string of letters, numbers, and characters, and parse out the meaning. Your training consisted of watching other matchmakers work, then trying your hand at doing some on your own, being told that you were wrong or right, with no explanation as to why either way—until you stopped getting them wrong. And whenever it would be your turn to train a matchmaker, that would be exactly how you’d train them. Because there was no way to tell them what exactly you were seeing, or how to do it. They just had to do.
The longest part was looking up the profile numbers in the program, selecting them, and sending off the match results. As soon as you submitted that one, your next match came up.
jkD%NVSC3%JCacN%vWS5#k!Z4GqGW#ZfMyqGUfc@wQT5L5vK2uWU5N*5Lg&6
Your body moved as if by itself, in understanding with the machine, the program. The matchmakers often talked about entering a sort of trance when working, becoming one mind with the computer, completely unaware of their surroundings, time, or bodily needs. Only the next match.
That’s why all of your screens had to be simultaneously forced into a shut-off at lunchtime, or else none of you would take a lunch break, then again at the end of the workday.
Blinking a few times to readjust from the hours spent interfacing with the program, you looked around you at the other matchmakers slowly getting up from their seats as well. With a sigh, you stood up and shuffled out after them. Jaemin was still at his desk when you got back to yours, fervently clacking away at his keyboard.
You grabbed your coffee mug, went to wash it out in the breakroom and set it up to dry, then returned to your desk. Swallowing in an attempt to wet your dry throat, you asked him, “So how was your thrilling day of data synthesis?”
“Not over yet,” he groaned, scrolling down in his spreadsheet. “Hey, wait up a minute, would you?”
Checking the time on your watch, you nodded. “My bus doesn’t come for another twenty-five. They let us out early again.”
“Yeah, I heard the Director on the phone to somebody a while ago. He sounded pissed. Apparently, there’s some concerns over the Factory’s energy usage. They must be cutting you guys a few minutes early every day to try to help since you still use old hardware, right?”
“Mm,” you hummed thoughtfully. “Yeah, could be.”
“You’d think we’d be the one agency that wouldn’t be hit with budget cuts,” he scoffed, clicking a few things before his monitor displayed the login screen again. He spun around in his chair, giving you a wide smile. “Alright, ready?”
“Sure.” You grabbed your backpack from your seat.
Jaemin and you headed down the stairs, awash in pinks and oranges from the sunset streaming in from outside.
“So, I already know what the answer is going to be, but I have to be able to say that I asked, alright?” Your coworker began, making you scrunch up your face in confusion.
“Huh?”
“My sister wanted me to ask if you’ve done hers yet? Na Minhee?”
You sighed, “Jaemin, you know I don’t know any of that—”
“I know—”
“—it’s all just… stuff. And you’ve compiled profiles, those are completely anonymous.”
“I know, I know,” he reassured you. “I just needed to be able to tell her that I asked, and that’s what you said. She wouldn’t take my word for it.”
“She’d know if hers has already been done, anyway.” You held up your hand, wiggling your pinky finger. “Why ask you?”
“Because she’s impatient.”
“Well, I can’t help her.” You shrugged. “It’ll happen when it happens.”
“I’ll tell her that. Thanks!”
“Yeah, no problem, dude.”
“When does your bus come?”
You checked the time again. “Fifteen minutes or so.”
“You want me to wait with you?” He offered, looking around the empty bus stop. “Kind of dark.”
“I’m alright, thanks. Go break your sister’s heart, champ.” You gave him a mock punch on the shoulder.
“Right.” Your coworker shook his head. “See you tomorrow, Y/N.”
“See you tomorrow, Jaemin.”
On your own again, you took your phone and headphones out, popping one earbud in your ear as you went to choose your playlist. As you scrolled, tapped, and swiped through your phone to try to pick the perfect song, some fuzz fell from your jumpsuit onto your right pinky finger, and you absentmindedly shook it off as your focus stayed on your music library. But it was stubborn, and the red fleck didn’t budge. You wiped the digit on your pants, eyes on where you had finally gotten the perfect choice, the song starting up as you lifted your now-clean hand back up.
Except it was still there. You looked at your hand for the first time, really looked at it, and felt your stomach drop. A thin, bright red string, the same color as your jumpsuit, was tied around your right pinky finger, just above the juncture where the finger met your hand. The string hung off in the air, becoming transparent and disappearing altogether less than a finger’s length away. You turned your hand over, palm to back to palm to back, and the string moved with it, the end fluttering with each of your movements. Stupidly, you tried to grab it, as if to pull it off, but when you took hold of the silken thread and gave it a yank, it didn’t budge. For a split second, amputation came to mind, but you quickly pushed those thoughts away. There were stories of people losing fingers or entire limbs and their strings reappearing on the other hand, or in new places altogether if they had no hands at all.
You looked around for any of your coworkers. Nobody else except the two people on either end of the string could see it, but you still didn’t want anybody to be observing your behavior, and then have to try to explain said behavior right now. It was easy to explain why you were doing what you were doing—you just got a red string; but not how—you weren’t supposed to get one. Ever.
The area around you was empty, the majority of your coworkers driving, taking the subway, or not having left work yet. You looked over your shoulder, at the pink marble building looming in the distance.
The squeal of brakes and hiss of compressed air as the doors of a bus were flung open made you turn around. Rushing up the steps onto the bus, you then plopped into your usual seat, keeping your backpack on your lap and instinctively tucking your right hand between the bag and your body to keep the string hidden. You didn’t know who could possibly be your soulmate now, you had to be vigilant.

Spy x Family Exhibition — Damianya edition! :D
(I tweeted about this here and here so I’m basically moving the images to tumblr.)
So many Damianya panels in the school arc gallery <3 to be fair most of the school arc is about Anya+Damian. I was excited to see Damianya panels irl, was losing my mind <3 <3
There’s literally a Damianya school arc collage here. I’m going crazy ♡

They recreated the griffin! And Becky’s Loid doll lmao. With love we can soar through the sky!

Some Damian + Damianya stuff. Like almost every main Damianya moment is displayed. They sure know what the audience likes LOL.

And of course the iconic scene! They put the “the bomb on her neck, attach it to me instead” and “it’ll be okay, don’t be scared” panels right next to each other <3 <3 <3 they had an entire wall dedicated to the bus hijacking arc.

The relationship chart also has some Damianya crumbs because Google translate tells me Anya -> Damian was “target of operation friendship” but Damian -> Anya was “she’s on his mind” ♡♡

As a Damianya fan I was very very happy to see all of this :D there’s more Damianya than I ever hoped for but I guess it makes sense to cater to the Damianya fans because it’s a popular ship in Japan :D

I saw these panels today, and I started wondering about something...

Everyone else in this panel looks so shocked & concerned then there's barou being angry.......at nagi tripping???? LMAO every little thing mr hassle man does will irk him to no end, poor guy can't even trip over himself without barou popping veins in response hsgsjfjwhd

This next part is just me speculating based on prior behaviour, but I think it's both a mixture of genuine irritation like "how the FUCK does this guy even manage that?!?!?" and worry bc it looks like it hurt. Despite his playstyle and his general behaviour/attitude, I do see Barou as someone who can be very caring, outside the context of football (he is a great brother to his sisters as we know, but I'm more so talking about close acquaintances & friends here). But that doesn't mean he'll care and worry without complaining about how much of a hassle the person causing it is being. This is especially true for Nagi!
Like we've seen Barou complain endlessly about his roomates' mess that he'll out time, effort and energy into cleaning up after anyway; Nagi being a common beneficiary of this treatment despite how much shit Barou gives him for being that messy and, in his words, stinky (lmaooo).
In this particular scene below, after Nagi and Barou have a massive back-and-forth about who gets to sleep in the best bed, Isagi & Nagi return to the room to find that Barou snuck in ahead of time to sneakily claim his territory.
Initially, Nagi's ready to 'knock him awake' and pick up the fight where it left off earlier. But once Isagi points out Barou's act of care/service, Nagi can't seem to find it in him to continue with his original plan and is rendered speechless for a second. He then chooses to relent to Barou, claiming 'it's a bother to think about' when he was just, in fact, spent some time thinking about it and letting Barou sleep and therefore have his way was the option he chose (he also decides to snatch the 2nd best option of the top bunk while he's at it - poor Isagi 🤣).

[Click each image to enlarge]
Or when before this scene, they're all in the baths together - one minute, Barou's nagging Nagi about not swimming in a public bath and getting his spit everywhere by blowing bubbles. Then, the next minute, Nagi starts feeling dizzy from being in the hot bath too long, and Barou's the one immediately getting in the water to help him out. Of course, he's still yelling about out how this is all Nagi's fault, as he's literally taking care of the guy anyway 😭

Also, apologies for being so all-over-place and going back and forth in a non-chronologocal order like this lmao but!!! Earlier, when Nagi & Barou were having that original tussle over the best bed, as soon as Nagi sneezes, Barou paused, and the caring mode activates within him. He's immediately onto clearing up the mess and instructing them to ventilate the room since it's apparently dusty enough to cause Nagi to sneeze. Barou isn't even the one it was affecting in that moment and although this must be a part of his regular cleaning routine anyway, the trigger to his current actions was Nagi being impacted by the state of the room. Even Isagi's scream before this didn't quite get him to pause, we're shown that Nagi - who was the cause of his original distress btw LMAO - is the one who halts his prior tirade and switches on the 'maid barou' mode.

The way Barou looks after Nagi is both subtle and loud. He'll loudly admonish him for behaviour he deems unseemly, but he'll very quickly make himself available to respond and help Nagi out when he needs it. To me, this is the same pattern that he displays through during the time he gives Nagi advice regarding his ego (discussed in full here). Nagi's decline has very clearly been something he's been observing closely with the accurate 'diagnosis' he gives him so quickly. His initial concerned expression also demonstrates how it has been and is continuing to worry him, too. Then his final harsh but hopeful advice is him answering Nagi's call for help/guidance. Passing on the wisdom, Barou himself suffered so much to cultivate, because he believes Nagi is capable of walking the same path to success.
Now back to my original point - I think in the bowling panels, Barou's pissed mostly because everything Nagi does annoys him to no end, while a part of that annoyance definitely stems from caring about the silly guy's wellbeing because he's out here zoning out and hurting himself 🤣
Nagi is shown by Knsr to be someone who naturally derives caring instincts from people who take a particular liking to/hold affection towards him - for example, Reo. I think Barou is also placed into this category. Albeit his feelings of care & and its manifestations take a totally different shape to Reo's far gentler approach. LMAO

I keep forgetting to post here…
Recently, an exhibit on Pili budaixi (glove puppetry) opened at the Taiwan Culture Center in Tokyo on June 20, 2024. It’ll last until July 29th; note, though, that it’s only open on weekdays.
It’s not a very big exhibit, and the info is all in Japanese. But it’s a rare chance to see the official puppets of Shang Bu Huan, Lin Xue Ya, and Dan Fei — and not just any official version of the puppets, but rather, the main ones.
That’s right — we’re talking not their stunt-double puppets or official replicas meant for most exhibits/events, but rather, the main puppets they used for filming!
The three characters’ Takarazuka costumes and props are also on display, but photos of those aren’t allowed. (You can take pics of the puppets, though!)
It might take me some time to cross-post over here everything I already posted to Twitter, if at all, but I got to attend two special events in conjunction with this exhibit: a panel on opening day, and a fan event earlier, on the 22nd.
Again, I’m more active on Twitter because it really is easier to post in real time over there, and it’s not considered spamming to be posting so much because you’re updating a thread. So, I might not be able to post much here… Plus, I’ll be busy for most of next week.
But before I go to sleep, I think some of you Thunderbolt Fantasy fans over here might enjoy seeing my vids from this weekend’s event. Let me share one first; the rest will maybe follow.
Two of Pili’s veteran puppeteers guested at this event, which consisted of a combination of pre-planned puppet performances and requests from the audience.
To my delight, one of the fans who got picked to make a request asked to see Shang Bu Huan and Wan Jun Po’s adventure era, and, well… this is what the puppeteers came up with on the spot!
Old man yaoi… /j
Sorry for the inconvenience, but the rest of my vids and pics from this event are in this Twitter thread!
And my Twitter thread for the event on the 20th is here!
I plan to make event reports for both, as well as a long-overdue Anime Japan 2024 report, hopefully by the end of this month or early next month.
I will slowly try to upload more vids here when I can, but no guarantees 🙇🏻♀️ Realistically I don’t think I’ll be able to post everything I already posted on Twitter…
NOTE: Please do not take my vids / pics and claim them as your own. Please credit me by linking to my posts. Thank you!

Remember Me - a small Bad Batch fic
Y'all I'm causing pain right before the premiere tomorrow, don't come for me 😭 I also haven't written in a long while, and I wrote this super fast. Just something I thought of based on a post I posted last week while listening to the song of the same name. This fic takes place during Season 2, so hope you like it!
also up on AO3
There were so many stars in space, Omega wished she could count all of them. The view from her makeshift room–normally the gunner’s loft of the ship–was stunning as always.
Omega sat in the gunner’s seat, holding Lula close and observing the view of space. She remembered the first time she had gotten to see space all those months ago, the way the tiny white stars twinkled in the vast darkness. Her eyes sparkled with wonder, her heart leaping with delight.
The Batch had just finished up another mission Cid had sent them on, and it was a long way back to Ord Mantell. Omega could hear Wrecker’s snores from her room. He knocked out pretty easily after long tiring missions. Tech and Echo were likely keeping a watch on the ship’s controls, and Hunter was making sure everything was in order before the jump to hyperspace. She could even hear Gonky making some small noises as he listened to her brothers.
Flashes of blue streaked her room’s window, the ship now entering hyperspace. Omega stepped down from the gunner’s seat, sitting herself down on the makeshift bed Wrecker had made for her. Holding Lula, she laid down on her back, staring at the golden string lights that lit up her room. The lights made her blond hair glow, and Omega felt comfortable in here. Away from a dark room. Away from a dark laboratory.
“Comfortable in here?”
Omega looked up to see Hunter giving her a soft smile, leaning his arm against the sides of the room. Omega sat up, crossing her legs and setting Lula aside next to her. “Yeah. Getting a little tired though.”
Hunter let out a soft chuckle. “Get some rest. The others will be getting some shut eye too. I’ll be on watch duty this time.”
Omega nodded, her eyes starting to shut. Hunter closed the curtain, the curtain rings making a small creaking sound as they glided. She laid back down, pulling her blanket over her and tucking in Lula, letting sleep capture her for the trip back home.
______________________________________________________________
Omega’s eyes opened to a foggy view, and she was definitely no longer inside her room, or the ship. She listened for any snores or voices, but couldn’t hear any.
“Hello?”
Her tiny voice echoed in the fog. Omega couldn’t see anything either as she tried to navigate herself through the thick fog. “Hunter! Echo! Tech! Anyone?”
A ceiling light lit up in front of Omega, followed by a line of lights that yearned for her to come after. Omega arched her eyebrow, following the lights. She still couldn’t see anything, but the fog was starting to thin out.
Lights to Omega’s left and right appeared, displaying large tubes. Omega could easily recognize them. They were just like the ones she saw growing up in Nala Se’s lab. Even in the secret rooms Nala Se would take her to when the Kaminoan needed her for specific help.
Omega’s heart rate began to grow. She always hated the labs, reminding her of how scary her life was since she was born. It was always wires, tubes, and injection needles, never any warm hugs or toys to play with.
She kept on walking under the lights, beginning to see unknown figures inside the tubes. Omega looked away and held her arms together, refusing to see all of that again. She didn’t want to be here anymore, wherever this place was.
Up ahead, a light appeared larger than the rest, displaying a control panel in front of her. Omega walked up to the control panel, which looked exactly like one of the panels inside Nala Se’s underwater lab. A small button was glowing in white, flashing every second. Omega couldn’t help but press the button out of curiosity, and she wished she hadn’t.
The button caused a larger light to switch on, revealing five large tubes in front of her. Each one of them had one of her brothers inside, hooked up with tubes. Even Crosshair was there, asleep inside the tube’s liquid.
Omega trembled, stepping away from the panel. “No, no…” Her lips trembled, tears coming out of her eyes.
“I’m sorry, young one.” A strange voice completely unfamiliar to Omega spoke from the darkness. But there was no figure to be seen.
“But they have to leave you. They can’t be with you anymore.”
“No,” Omega whimpered. She wanted to run towards them, do anything to set them free. Something grabbed ahold of Omega, preventing her from moving. The unknown force pulled her away, and Omega could see wires wrapping around her bare arms. All Omega could do was scream.
“NO!”
“Kid?”
______________________________________________________________
“Kid!”
Omega woke up with a jolt, her hands shaking. She was back in her warmly lit room. Omega realized it was a nightmare. A really scary one.
Hunter laid his hand gently on Omega’s soft hair, helping her sit up. His enhanced senses had sensed Omega whimpering in her sleep, almost sobbing. “Breathe.”
Omega’s eyes welled up with tears, still in shock from the nightmare. She looked up at Hunter, letting him see her glistening eyes that were full of fear. She pushed herself into Hunter’s arms, sniffling.
Hunter held her, letting her cry it out. “It’s okay. It was just a bad dream.”
Omega lifted herself off Hunter’s armor, wiping her tears away. “It felt real. All of you were in tubes, and I couldn’t save you.” She broke into more tears. “I was alone.”
Hunter let her continue crying, pulling her into another embrace. He knew what it felt like to have those dreams. Fearing his brothers were ever pulled into those tubes as failed test subjects. Continued experiments until their blood was drained from their bodies. He never wanted them to come true.
“I don’t want to lose any of you, ever,” Omega mumbled.
Hunter had made that same promise to her all the time. At her young age, she had a lot of hope. But reality is something she has to learn.
“Omega,” Hunter began, putting his hands on her shoulders. “It’s alright, we’re here for you now. But you know we can’t always be. We age faster than you, and death is something everyone has to face in this world, not just a soldier. It is hard, but you have to remember all of the memories. When that time comes, will you be brave and remember what we taught you?”
Omega looked down for a few seconds, then back up at Hunter. She was the only one here who aged normally, since they were designed to age faster for the army to grow quickly. She nodded. Omega never wanted them to leave her, but she was slowly understanding the lesson Hunter was trying to teach her.
“Come here.” Hunter pulled Omega into his lap, handing her Lula. He stroked her hair and began singing the lullaby Cut had taught him.
Remember me though I have to say goodbye
Remember me, don't let it make you cry
For even if I'm far away, I hold you in my heart
I sing a secret song to you each night we are apart
Omega was lured back into sleep, holding Lula close and embracing the warmth in Hunter’s arms as he sang. Everything was okay within this moment, and she was safe.
______________________________________________________________
Hunter remembered the last night he had sung that lullaby to Omega. She had grown to love that lullaby, wanting Hunter to sing it for her many times before she went to bed.
The ship was quiet while traveling through hyperspace. The others were in the front of the ship, silent while thinking about the loss they had just faced. Tech was gone, and now Omega was taken.
Everything that replayed in Hunter’s mind was when he saw that Imperial ship leaving with Omega inside. The tears that welled up in his eyes while seeing his little sister being taken from him.
He laid back in his chair, remembering the smiles Omega had on her face.
“Sing me the lullaby again! Please!”
Tears grew in Hunter’s eyes again. He closed them, breathing in as he began to sing again.
Remember me though I have to travel far
Remember me each time you hear a sad guitar
Know that I'm with you the only way that I can be
Until you're in my arms again
Hunter felt like he could hear a tiny voice singing with his broken vocals.
Remember me.

I cant actually put my panels up until tommorrow morning in case it gets windy and they get blown off so I put up some bits today.
My class mate Coco had done some speech bubbles with the senses written on and i liked her idea. I asked her if it would be ok to use her idea and she agreed so I will put words onto the arch.
I brought in some small stools and table from home to display my pieces tommorrow. I hope they are ok.
I also put up some incense for the sense of smell.
The arch, front and back.
It looks a bit messy here but I was adding to it.
I played the sounds over it today and it is very nice.
The whole concept works well together but it needs all of it.
I will use my laptop with speakers outside for my presentation.
Tumblr wont allow the audio file to be uploaded because its too big.
It is 11.32 minute long and the sounds I recorded are;
Birdsong Limerick city and county, Arkansa U.S.A, Florence.
Rain, Arkansa and Limerick.
Chickens and Roosters.
A Raven, Loch Gur.
People talking, Various places Limerick.
Bus driver in the Chianti region, Italy.
Angle grinder.
Protest speech.
Ball bouncing, Clare Street Park.
Spoon tapping ceramics.
Bag pipes, West Limerick.
Spoon tapping ceramics.
Bubble blowing in a cup.
Kettle boiling.
Tea being pore out.
Tea being stirred in cup.

it's not the worst injury i've seen, but it's pretty bad. - from hannibal @ any muse you see fit
Prompts for patching up wounds|| OPEN
Ambrosine was assured that the scene was cleared and secured with the highest confidence, but it seemed that one unobservant officer had not cleared the hidden root cellar, where in the damp and dark space did the killer hid away. Where he listened to every word discussed of his horrible acts of barbarism, watched from the gaps of the hidden wooden panel door every move the investigators, law enforcement, and crime scene technicians as they paced and scoured every inch of the home for clues.
Did he revel in it? Did he take joy and pride in the horrified expressions of each person who saw his crime? Maybe that's why he targeted Ambrosine. Her expression was always placid, unmoved. She wasn't moved by human made horrors. The only emotions displayed on her face disappointed, disgusted by the cheapness of it all. And it made him furious.
She wondered if he seethed in anger watching her in the sodden dark on his hiding place, like how he did when charging at her in the darkened hallway, busting open the door when she noticed the draft from the hidden panel of the wall. He raged at her, screaming and spitting as he blindly hacked at her with the meat cleaver that was white knuckle tight in his grip. He only landed one blow before being grabbed and thrown off of her. It wasn't the bloody struggle Ambrosine anticipated, much faster than she could process. One moment, she was sniffing the cold, earthy air and finding the source emanating from the draft, then next was laying back against the wood panel wall, warm red blood gushing from the curve between her neck and shoulder, pooling down her chest and arm. The black of her clothes concealed the carnage, only the rip where blade edge cleaved through fabric and flesh gave a peak of the source of the crimson splatter.
She felt unnervingly calm. This wasn't the worst thing to have happened but watching the rush of people, the tanglement of bodies as they struggled to put the raving killer into the police car, the people screaming for a bus and pushing past each other felt like a fever dream, like she wasn't actually there. It was all out of body and surreal. Then, there was him. Calmly kneeling, examining her with the same coolness he always had at every scene. Lilac doe eyes watched him intently, a split ashen brow cocked in befuddlement.
"Is this the worst thing they've seen?" She asked in a soft, tender tone.

We then took the bus out to Pollok Country Park to visit the Burrell Collection, which is some rich shipping magnate's art collection that he and his wife bequeathed to the city and which reopened in 2022 after being closed for refurbishment in 2016.
It's got some pretty stunning pieces on display, but I can't say I was impressed by the interpretation panels. The rationale seems to have been 'Hmm, how can we make this appeal to The Kids?' with no particular consideration given to the idea that people who are not six years old visit museums as well.
This is, I have found, a recurring problem with museum renovations in recent years.
