RE: Institute Gala
To: Mag. Inst. Employees- all
From: Alexander Sampson
Hello, Magnus Institute employees. I’ve received a lot of questions regarding the upcoming fundraising gala, and I figured it would be best to address them all here.
‘Do I have to attend?’
If Mr. Bouchard extended an invitation to you, yes, unless you have a prior engagement that he approves of.
‘Is it paid?’
No. There will, however, be food and a raffle.
‘Why isn’t it paid?’
I don’t know. That’s not my call.
‘What do I wear?’
Black tie attire. If you rent something, please send me the bill, as that qualifies as a business expense.
‘How long do I have to stay?’
Minimum 30 minutes. Please, for the love of everything sacred in this world, do not perform a mass exodus from the gala exactly thirty minutes after it starts.
‘What type of food will be there?’
There will be a catering service that provides the food. I’m not sure exactly what will be served. If you have allergies or dietary restrictions, please let Rosie know, as she’s in charge of the catering.
‘Will there be alcohol?’
Yes. Every guest receives one drink ticket for the bar. Do NOT give your ticket to somebody else. There is a one drink limit. We will not have a repeat of last year’s gala, Timothy Stoker.
‘Why are you, the accountant, answering these questions?’
I don’t know. I really don’t. This isn’t my job.
If you have any further questions, please reach out to me. Do not hit reply all to this email. I repeat, do NOT hit reply all to this email.
Thank you,
Alexander Sampson, CPA/CFE, he/him/his

hey magic the gatheringers, ive been rebuilding my favorite edh decks and hyperfixating on them lately so i just wanted to make a pretty lil post about them offering them to anyone who wants to play em :) these are my favorite decks right now and ive just run through and adjusted the decklists of all of them in the last couple days so they're fresh and ready to perform <3
the first deck is Rocco Cast From Exile!
the third rework of this decklist with the new cards from CLU really cemented that this is my favorite deck i've ever made. Rocco, Street Chef plays kingpin to a unique Naya value pile built around playing cards from exile!
this deck is similar to Prosper, who is unfortunately the face of Cast From Exile-- but unlike Prosper, this commander and the other options for CFE payoffs you get in Naya are super interesting and cool :) you get [[Feldorn]], [[Pia Nalaar]], [[Quintorius Kand]], as well as fun cheapening effects like [[Liara Portyr]] and [[Tlincalli Hunter]] on top of the delightful cascade effects green gets!
you also get to play around with +1/+1 counters (Rocco might be the best commander of all time at like... putting +1/+1s on specific individual creatures honestly??) and the magic that is food tokens (which are getting stronger and stronger each passing set). furthermore, Rocco impulse draws for your opponents, which means you get to encourage them to make tough decisions! do they play their combo piece from exile, feeding your deck? (Rocco is so efficient that they will soon learn that the answer to that question is almost always no... but you can always pretend that you're playing group hug and giving them free cards until they figure that out!)
this deck gets a lot of mana and builds up a monstrous board state very quickly. as far as individual value pieces go, be on the lookout for [[Jaheria, Friend of the Forest]], [[Inspiring Statuary]], and [[Night of the Sweets' Revenge]] for ways to make an unreal amount of mana. [[Herd Baloth]] and [[Faldorn]] will get you tokens for every card played from exile, and i would say are the main things giving you a monstrous board. don't sleep on the cascaders and thieves either-- every extra card obtained from things like [[Bloodbraid Elf]] or the Etalis net you another Cast From Exile trigger!
Naya Cast From Exile is weird and awesome and I highly recommend playing and building in this design space :) there's a lot of Naya CFE cards that work but I cut from the deck, and they give us more cards and commanders for the archetype all the time. this is definitely my favorite deck i've ever made <3
the second deck i'd like to show off is my Oloro Control decklist!
i've always been the interaction player at the table. you might find that these decklists are a bit heavy on the interaction for you actually-- i truly believe disruption is like. so important. especially when you're playing for value rather than combos like i do ^_^
so here is my dedicated Esper Control decklist! Oloro is there to keep you topped off and to draw you cards-- by playing this deck it really does net you anywhere from 10-40 extra life in a given game in my experience just by playing him. and the card draw on Oloro is pretty insane, enabling you to find the necessary ramp and bombs to end the game after you've disrupted every combo at the table :) personally i don't like Oloro the character very much at all-- don't know why, but he's a little difficult for me to look at. i personally have a custom proxy that replaces Oloro with Grusha :3
this Control deck is all about gaining slow and steady value while ensuring the bad things aren't sent your way. there are some stax pieces here, but not very strict ones-- your goal is to remain innocuous while you get the mana and cards to play your bombs and your opponents hopefully go at each other. the bombs in question are things like [[Debt to the Deathless]], [[Expropriate]], [[Torment of Hailfire]], planeswalkers like [[Sorin Markov]], and creatures that amass you value quickly like [[Drogskol Reaver]] and [[Sunscorch Regent]]. you gain life, shut down your opponents, and force unwinnable situations or knock out opponents with big bombs. it's fun!
the third deck is Vadrok Inevitable Betrayal Combo!
Vadrok here is the final fruit of my obsession with the 0 cmc suspend cards I went through a few months back. after toying with pretty much ever one in turn, Vadrok is the one that stuck around because he plays so interestingly and truly warps your table's metagame if you bring him out enough times.
let's get into the weeds: the combo here is a pretty simple one-- Vadrok is one of (and the only legendary) engine that allows you to play cards from your graveyard without exiling them after, done by mutating. [[Inevitable Betrayal]] is a 0 mana cost blue spell that takes a creature from an opponent's deck and puts it onto the battlefield under your control. The combo, then, is a gradual one: use a spell to discard Inevitable Betrayal, and mutate onto Vadrok. each mutate plays Inevitable Betrayal for free, allowing you to cheat out an opponent's creature each time. this is strong.
the deck features a suite of tutors, a variety of ways to discard cards, and every mutate card in Jeskai (except the one whose mutate cost is six mana :P). the combo is surprisingly low to the ground and quick, allowing for turn one/two discards and turn three Vadrok mutates at times. however, it's often worth waiting to mutate Vadrok onto a creature with Hexproof to ensure little interruption as you swarm the board with your opponents' best hits.
this deck, of course, relies heavily on your opponents' decks then. which is why this deck is so metagame-warping-- even at more casual tables, you'll probably see your friends take their funny eldrazi and craterhoofs out of their decks because you're so prone to winning with them. personally, i find that delightful! i tend to cycle deck usage anyway, so it's cute to steal a bunch of things for a couple weeks, have my opponents edit their decklists to remove my hits, lose interest in the deck, and come back a couple months later and steal the good hits in their new decks, repeat :) its fun having a deck that warps metagames with its presence alone.
the final deck id like to talk about is my Silvar and Trynn Humans decklist!
mardu is delightful and for the longest time i couldn't find a mardu commander i ever wanted to build! finally though, i stumbled across these two :) the art on them is so gorgeous! i love ikoria.
this deck is very fun! the only typal deck on the list, humans is a very fun type to build around and you get access to so many bangers in mardu. this deck is all about building a board of as many humans as you possibly can, then sacking them all to put 17 +1/+1 counters on Silvar and start swinging for commander lethal. how that is done is different every game, with so many fun human pieces and interaction pieces that each game feels very distinctly different from the last more so than any of the other decks discussed on this post. furthermore, mardu offers my favorite interaction suite of all time, so it's always a pleasure to play with.
teehee anyway thats my decks ive been hyperfixating on! feel free to give em a try :) sqrrk!!

1) I have read all wcif but sometimes I see windows/trim/surrounds not mentioned, are those personal conversions? And are some wall stickers/wallpapers? 2) It seems despite the 5 floor restriction some buildings appear to be 6/7 floors, is there a trick for that? Even with cfe you can't go more than 5. 3) Would you be willing to share a few builds (only for personal use ofc) to understand the architecture and study the design? Sorry for all these questions but you are my muse! (2/2)
Ok, first of all I'm so sorry for taking almost a year to answer, I'm the worst person on hearth 🙃
Awwww thank you so so much, you're so nice and I feel so honored and happy that my gaming divagations had inspired you🥰🥰
Yes, almost everything I've used in my Paris world are listed in the WCIFs or are personal conversions from Felixandre and Cities Skylines, but I'm going to share the Felixandre ones when I have a bit of time. Also I've used wallpapers with mouldings recolored with the World Adventures stone pattern. I mostly used the Versailles sets of wallpapers by TheJim07 for this.
My builds have 7 floors, you can do that following THIS tutorial.
I will see if I can share some builds, the problem now is that I'm not sure if I still have all the content used in those builds 😕
Hope this helps! Have a nice day ❤❤

Get to know me simblr edition
Rules: you can use any sims game to answer these questions
Again, thank you @bast-sims for always tagging me! 🥰🥰🥰
Your three traits: cat person 😺 socially awkward 🥴 unflirty ❌❤
Your aspiration: fortune and/or swimming in cash
In game world you’d live in: TS2's Pleasantview ftw. I can imagine the drama happening there and I'd get to be the gossip girl in the neighborhood. 😅
Most used pack(s): Late Night, Showtime, Into the Future (I love all their modern themed objects!)
Favourite decor object (no cc): Simply Dogwood from the Late Night EP. I just love this plant, it's always included in almost all my lot downloads..
Tumblr media
6. Something you want in the game: I still miss the foundation height platform tool introduced in TS2:OFB, as it makes half-landing stairs waaaay easier to make (I still curse CFE up to this day). I hope one day an ✨angel from heaven✨would be able to mod this into reality..
7. What colour is your plumbob rn: As of this writing, I'm done eating, I don't feel like peeing yet, not feeling sleepy yet so...I guess something on the greenish side?

NASA Spotlight: Astronaut Mike Hopkins
Michael S. Hopkins was selected by NASA as an astronaut in 2009. The Missouri native is currently the Crew-1 mission commander for NASA’s next SpaceX launch to the International Space Station on Nov. 14, 2020. Hopkin’s Crew-1 mission will mark the first-ever crew rotation flight of a U.S. commercial spacecraft with astronauts on board, and it secures the U.S.’s ability to launch humans into space from American soil once again.  Previously, Hopkins was member of the Expedition 37/38 crew and has logged 166 days in space. During his stay aboard the station, he conducted two spacewalks totaling 12 hours and 58 minutes to change out a degraded pump module. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Illinois and a Master of Science in Aerospace Engineering.
He took some time from being a NASA astronaut to answer questions about his life and career! Enjoy:
What do you hope people think about when you launch?
I hope people are thinking about the fact that we’re starting a new era in human spaceflight. We’re re-opening human launch capability to U.S. soil again, but it’s not just that. We’re opening low-Earth orbit and the International Space Station with commercial companies. It’s a lot different than what we’ve done in the past. I hope people realize this isn’t just another launch – this is something a lot bigger. Hopefully it’s setting the stage, one of those first steps to getting us to the Moon and on to Mars.
Tumblr media
You served in the U.S. Air Force as a flight test engineer. What does that entail?
First off, just like being an astronaut, it involves a lot of training when you first get started. I went to the U.S. Air Force Test Pilot School and spent a year in training and just learning how to be a flight test engineer. It was one of the most challenging years I’ve ever had, but also one of the more rewarding years. What it means afterwards is, you are basically testing new vehicles or new systems that are going on aircraft. You are testing them before they get handed over to the operational fleet and squadrons. You want to make sure that these capabilities are safe, and that they meet requirements. As a flight test engineer, I would help design the test. I would then get the opportunity to go and fly and execute the test and collect the data, then do the analysis, then write the final reports and give those conclusions on whether this particular vehicle or system was ready to go.
What is one piece of life advice you wish somebody had told you when you were younger?
A common theme for me is to just have patience. Enjoy the ride along the way. I think I tend to be pretty high intensity on things and looking back, I think things happen when they’re supposed to happen, and sometimes that doesn’t necessarily agree with when you think it should happen. So for me, someone saying, “Just be patient Mike, it’s all going to happen when it’s supposed to,” would be really good advice.
Tumblr media
Is there a particular science experiment you enjoyed working on the most while aboard the space station?
There’s a lot of experiments I had the opportunity to participate in, but the ones in particular I liked were ones where I got to interact directly with the folks that designed the experiment. One thing I enjoyed was a fluid experiment called Capillary Flow Experiment, or CFE. I got to work directly with the principal investigators on the ground as I executed that experiment. What made it nice was getting to hear their excitement as you were letting them know what was happening in real time and getting to hear their voices as they got excited about the results. It’s just a lot of fun.
Tumblr media
Space is a risky business. Why do it?
I think most of us when we think about whatever it is we do, we don’t think of it in those terms. Space is risky, yes, but there’s a lot of other risky jobs out there. Whether it’s in the military, farming, jobs that involve heavy machinery or dangerous equipment… there’s all kinds of jobs that entail risk. Why do it? You do it because it appeals to you. You do it because it’s what gets you excited. It just feels right. We all have to go through a point in our lives where we figure out what we want to do and what we want to be. Sometimes we have to make decisions based on factors that maybe wouldn’t lead you down that choice if you had everything that you wanted, but in this particular case for me, it’s exactly where I want to be. From a risk standpoint, I don’t think of it in those terms.
Tumblr media
Can you describe your crew mate Soichi Noguchi in one sentence?
There are many facets to Soichi Noguchi. I’m thinking about the movie Shrek. He has many layers! He’s very talented. He’s very well-thought. He’s very funny. He’s very caring. He’s very sensitive to other people’s needs and desires. He’s a dedicated family man. I could go on and on and on… so maybe like an onion – full of layers!
Tumblr media
Star Trek or Star Wars?
I love them both. But can I say Firefly? There’s a TV series out there called Firefly. It lasted one season – kind of a space cowboy-type show. They did have a movie, Serenity, that was made as well. But anyway, I love both Star Wars and Star Trek. We’ve really enjoyed The Mandalorian. I mean who doesn’t love Baby Yoda right? It’s all fun.
How many times did you apply to be an astronaut? Did you learn anything on your last attempt?
I tried four times over the course of 13 years. My first three attempts, I didn’t even have references checked or interviews or anything. Remember what we talked about earlier, about patience? For my fourth attempt, the fact is, it happened when it was supposed to happen. I didn’t realize it at the time. I would have loved to have been picked on my first attempt like anybody would think, but at the same time, because I didn’t get picked right away, my family had some amazing experiences throughout my Air Force career. That includes living in Canada, living overseas in Italy, and having an opportunity to work at the Pentagon. All of those helped shape me and grow my experience in ways that I think helped me be a better astronaut.
Can you share your favorite photo or video that you took in space?
One of my favorite pictures was a picture inside the station at night when all of the lights were out. You can see the glow of all of the little LEDs and computers and things that stay on even when you turn off the overhead lights. You see this glow on station. It’s really one of my favorite times because the picture doesn’t capture it all. I wish you could hear it as well. I like to think of the station in some sense as being alive. It’s at that time of night when everybody else is in their crew quarters in bed and the lights are out that you feel it. You feel the rhythm, you feel the heartbeat of the station, you see it in the glow of those lights – that heartbeat is what’s keeping you alive while you’re up there. That picture goes a small way of trying to capture that, but I think it’s a special time from up there.
Tumblr media
What personal items did you decide to pack for launch and why?
My wedding bands. I’m also taking up pilot wings for my son. He wants to be a pilot so if he succeeds with that, I’ll be able to give him his pilot wings. Last time, I took one of the Purple Hearts of a very close friend. He was a Marine in World War II who earned it after his service in the Pacific.
youtube
Thank you for your time, Mike, and good luck on your historic mission! Get to know a bit more about Mike and his Crew-1 crew mates Victor Glover, Soichi Noguchi, and Shannon Walker in the video above.

Hi iCad! Hope this isn't too invasive a question, and that it hasn't already been asked/answered, but I am always so curious based on the houses you build what style of house you live in yourself? I'm always intrigued because I can sense a definite style across all your buildings, but you don't seem really skilled at building so many different styles of houses!
Brook-like babbling behind the cut! :D
Right now (though hopefully we'll be migrating at the end of this week, weather permitting), we're living in my husband's house in southern California. It's a teeny-tiny 1-bedroom box of a house. It’s just a step above a studio, but it’s more or less right on the beach. It used to be a pool cabana for a much larger property that was torn down and subdivided years ago, and my husband sort of inherited it from its previous owner.
My house, OTOH, is in the mountains in southwest Colorado. It was built in the 80s, and I've owned it since 1998. My then-housemate and I put a lot of work into repairing and renovating it because it had been neglected for a while when I bought it. It's mountain chalet style on 39 acres, sits about 300 yards/about 1/3 of a kilometer away from the road, built into a hill, drive-under with the garage plus a small, self-contained one-bedroom apartment in the basement at the back of the house and then two living levels above. It used to house eight people and lots of pets very comfortably and is now much too big for just hubby and I plus pets, but it's paid off and I ain't selling, ever. :) It's got a two-story window wall in the great room, with a big wraparound deck outside and a loft overlooking it inside, that sort of thing. It's pretty standard for newer construction in the ski resort area I live in. Probably the closest I've built to it in-game lately is...Well, the log cabin that I just built for Mustang Valley. But that's not really close.
So there's really no relationship between the house(s) I live in and what I build in the game. The thing is, for the game, I build the kind of houses that I like to play in. I mean, there was a stretch of time that I built big, complex houses (like, I built Frank Lloyd Wright's Taliesin once upon a time) and palaces/old mansions and high rises and cathedrals and stuff just for the look and for the challenge of it, but as I came to enjoy actually playing the game more instead of just building in it, I left that (and all the requisite build CC!) behind. Now I'm strictly build-to-my-playing-specifications.
For playing, I prefer simple. I like visually-attractive but small/medium-size, fairly simple, non-split-level, one- or two-floor houses. With more than two floors, I lose track of the pixels, which annoys me, so such houses are a big nope for me. Same with houses that are just really large, such that it takes a couple sim-hours for a pixel to walk from one end to the other. You will never see me build a palace or a mansion in the game these days. I'd never play such a thing, so there's no point in building one.
The other thing that's important to me is being able to use the lots that I build in any neighborhood I play. I have a gigantic lot catalog, most of which is residential lots built by me. So if I'm playing and need a house for a new move-out but don't feel like stopping to build one, I can just go into the catalog and plop something down and maybe just change the exterior color scheme and/or maybe redo or rearrange the landscaping a bit...or maybe not. This means that 90% of the houses I build are built on a flat lot (including beach lots; I flatten beach areas so that I can easily reuse beach lots I've built) and in a narrow range of architectural styles. Bungalows, cottage style, cape cods, craftsman style, classic American Midwestern farmhouses (because that’s what I grew up in *laugh*), prairie-style, the occasional foursquare or log cabin. Never elaborate "Victorian" or Second Empire because I can't stand those styles IRL and wouldn't want to look at them in my game. :) I like visual cohesiveness in a neighborhood (Yes, I know that's not realistic :) ), so if my lot catalog consists of lots in only a handful of styles that visually work together, that means I can reuse houses just about anywhere. Occasionally I branch out and do boxy modern or southwest adobe or even mid-century style here and there, sure, but I do have a "core style" that I mostly stick to because my ultimate goal is reusability.
And because I like simplicity when it comes to actually playing, I don't bother with things like walk-out basements, or other things that would require a lot of digging around in the terrain. I don't usually build houses into a specific neighborhood's hilly terrain because that reduces reusability. So, I'd never build my own real-life house that's built into a hill with a daylight walk-out basement. I love my house, but because it has three living levels, I would totally hate playing a Sims version of it. *laugh* I also don't often bother with doing complex things with CFE, aside from simple things like garages attached to houses on foundation, for a number of reasons, not the least of which is that it makes it difficult to alter the house if needed. I also don't enjoy playing in basements in TS2, so I don't generally build houses with basements unless I have a VERY specific use in mind for one, like a vampire crypt or something. Again, it's not because I can't do those things. I can do (and have done) anything that it's possible to do in the game, building-wise. I just don't often want to because doing those things results in a house that I don't enjoy playing and/or a house in a style that just wouldn't blend in with everything else I build.
So yeah, I've evolved into a pretty boring builder, all in all! :) I like what I like, both in terms of style and playability, and that's what I stick with.

Ok so here I am making a master post for what seems to be an ARG that, for once, I’m actually aware it is happening when it happens.
DAY 1:
So yesterday (January 4) @kaijuno posted several posts claiming first to be the creator of the video game ‘Petscop’ and then warned their followers of a Michael (who most likely is the Michael mentioned in petscop, this is supported by the fact that michaels name is displayed in pink in the game and several of the “I’m sorry”s that we’re repeated in the game )
Underneath their post reading: “goodbye” was the first code.

The [Story and] Plan of My Life
In my experiences of exploring opportunities in the corporate world, recruiters often ask me this question - "What are your (long-) term plans?" I remember one instance in which I answered (non-verbatim), "I am planning to build my own business because I do not foresee myself to be an employee of someone's business forever." By the way, I wasn't considered for that post (I guess due to other factors, such as my qualifications and experience for the post or I just didn't do well during the interview). Well, that's my plan until now - at first, I would like to put up my own firm to utilize my profession and credentials (as a Certified Public Accountant and as a Tax Technician) and then invest additional capital in the business of leasing properties.
What motivates me towards such plans, or should I say dreams?
I came up from a lower middle-income family and witnessed how not all hardships pay off well. There are instances I heard my parents have discussions about finances and how could they possible send us (I and my brother) to school. Although they worked together to provide the needs of our family, it is inevitable that we experienced hard times. Having these experiences while growing up, I promised to myself to have a career that will help me provide my parents with the best life they can experience as they grow old and help me provide for myself and for my future family.
The combination of my dedication and my parents' hard work were able to have their fruits. It is still unimaginable that despite limited resources I have way back in college, I was able to graduate in my bachelor's degree, finance the review school I attended (for the upcoming board exam), and ultimately passed the CPA licensure examination on my first take!
So, where am I now in making those plans and dreams come true?
I am currently working as a Senior Analyst in one of the largest property management firms in the Philippines. It has been my interest since then to be part of the real estate industry and my current involvement in the industry help me gain more knowledge about how this type of business works. It is my dream to have an investment portfolio of various real estate properties which will enable me to earn potentially high passive income.
As a I want to put up a business or tax consultancy firm and work as a freelance professional accountant, I sometimes find opportunities in which I can earn other relevant certifications (like those internationally recognized certifications relevant in my profession, such as CISA and CFE) and engage in various trainings. I am currently enrolled in a business graduate school to gain relevant knowledge and experiences so I can be competent in my professional field.
With the current salary and I am earning and the savings I have, not only helped me finance some of my family's needs, but also my graduate studies which I am currently taking. So far, I make investments not only for my personal finance but also for the finance of my future family, although I still have no plans to build my family in the near future - I believe, it is best if I can start as early as now when I am still young and single. And besides, I am still investing in my education to have a stronger career outlook so I can be a good provider for my future family!
Well, in my current state, I think I am steps closer towards my dream and everything I undertake is still within the plan, although, I admit it is still a long journey ahead and expect there are still uncertainties as I move forward. Wish me luck, then!

Center for Excellence: The need for such Initiatives
Tumblr media
Under the Quality Education Sustainable Development Goals - 4 (SDGs), as set by the United Nations (UN) Child help Foundation, is implementing multiple programs to ensure that every child receives quality primary education. Our grassroots-level efforts are nationally recognized. CHF's volunteers are working harder so that the benefits of our initiatives trickle-down deeper into society and more people benefit from it.
Tumblr media
We believe that education is one of the most important aspects of development for an individual, which in turn results in the nation's development. For the past decade, CHF has been supporting students through many ways - like by giving scholarships, providing educational material, constructing clean washrooms in schools to decrease the drop-out rates, giving healthy food to the students, and by improving the infrastructure of the schools in rural and inaccessible areas. One such initiative is the Center for Excellence (CFE) Program. Started in the year 2019, this program's pilot project is being carried out at Palghar, Maharashtra's Sakhare Ashram Shala, which is a residential school. Here, students from poor, tribal communities from neighboring villages come and study at the school. The school has a hostel-like facility for those who come from far-away villages.
Tumblr media
How it all began:In the year 2018, a baseline survey was done in the Sakhare Ashram School where it was observed that the school’s board result was 80%. Hence, Child Help Foundation decided to initiate a project called “Center For Excellence” for the students of class 10th, where extra coaching was given for English, Mathematics and Science subjects. The marks received in the 10th standard are very crucial in the lives of the children that decide their destination and future streams of life; CHF appointed specially qualified teachers to teach Mathematics, Science and English to children from Sakhare Ashram Shala located in Palghar District. The Sakhare Ashram Shala is a government Aided School. These children belong to tribal communities with no access to quality education. The Center for Excellence Programme follows the teaching methodology, which focuses on the board exam perspective and gives practice sessions resulting in the students earning maximum marks in their board exams. Apart from what is being taught during school hours, the faculty under CFE made the students study for extra time. Gradually, the students started taking more interest in these subjects. Doubts were asked and thus, they became more geared and better prepared for their 10th standard board exams. The Basics or the essential formulae are taught in the main subjects of Science, Mathematics and English that help them to solve real problems and give clarity on the concepts. In the survey conducted before the commencement of the academic session, it was observed that the students were not able to recite the English alphabet. The students had shown improvement in the fundamentals of the English subject in a months’ time. The Taj Wellington Mews also donated 45 question sets of the previous year’s 10th standard board exams to the students at Sakhare School. They also gave writing pads and supplementary papers for the children. Previous year question papers are the most important and useful study material to get the complete idea about the 10th standard exam pattern. For the last few years, it was noticed that the question pattern of any competitive exam is nearly the same, so preparing for exams from the previous year's papers is very insightful. To help the children prepare with ease, the sets of question papers were also provided with their correct answers.
Tumblr media
Outcome:In the year 2020, when the board results were declared, the school extended their gratitude to the Child Help Foundation, as it was the first time that it had scored 100% results for the first time ever! There were 43 students enrolled in the Center for Excellence Program who cleared their 10th exams with the highest scores in Mathematics, Science and English. The education of girl children has created equal opportunities for both girls and boys of tenth standards. From the past two years, the results showcase that CFE has had an impact on their performance in a positive way.
Tumblr media
Tablet Distribution:As a token of appreciation, tablet pc’s were given to 10 students as granted by a donor to Child Help Foundation. It was decided to contribute to students who had scored the highest marks in their board exams. Also, an interactive session on the importance of education was conducted for the students present. The School Authorities and the Children were very glad to receive the tablets as this will contribute towards their online education. In 2021, the Motilal Oswal Foundation joined hands with Child Help Foundation for the CFE project to improve it further. With their support, we have been able to provide more facilities to the students. Other Project Locations:With the consistent success at the Sakhare Ashram Shala, Child Help Foundation decided to expand the CFE project to reach out to more students from neighboring villages. Thus, in 2021, we established well-functioning CFE models in the villages of Bhopoli, Murbaad and Vangani, in Palghar, Maharashtra. Currently, the number of beneficiaries in all our project locations are as follows: India’s education scenario does not provide an equal ground to all students. Educational institutions with good infrastructure are the only ones capable of providing a good academic experience to its students. This educational divide has increased with the pandemic. With schooling becoming online, the rural areas with lack of infrastructure were unable to impart the necessary education to the students. Thus, the students who are already lacking behind their urban counterparts, were only demotivated to continue studying. This has been a major reason for children dropping out of schools. The lack of theoretical and vocational training among them would further lead to unemployment, leading to a decelerated economic and social development and growth. Initiatives like CFE are the only way out of this maze. Let us know your thoughts on this initiative and what we can do to improve this further!

via Iowa City Downtown District: Sayuri Sasaki Hermann worked with twelve young artists in creating the mural “Coexist” now living on a wall in downtown Iowa City. Sayuri began laying the groundwork for this project back in April when she met with groups of young people at United Action for Youth to collect input and inspiration about the visual content of the mural.
Youth were given the opportunity to answer questions such as “How do we learn to live together in harmony? How do we relate to each other? How can we keep our vibrant, individual colors, patterns and textures, and still thrive, flourish and compliment each other?” Following a series of writing, drawing, and interactive exercises with the young artists, Sayuri arrived at an overarching theme for the mural: co-existence.
“Through numerous prompts and activities, we decided that a community consists of many ecosystems working together as a whole on many different levels,” said Sayuri. The mural’s design will reflect the way that different parts of the community can live in harmony with one another.
The site of the mural is 220 E. Washington Street. A public reception will be held at the site Thursday, August 16th from 4-6pm. Facebook Event
