The flowers of Cosmos bipinnatus 'Apricotta' have burnished apricot and peach petals with raspberry pink centres, edged with pink. This plant is a half-hardy annual which was the worthy winner of a Fleuroselect Novelty award for 2021.

Mars: A Journey's End - July 3rd, 1997.

"Mars Pathfinder was nearing the end of its seven month journey. The robot spacecraft was scheduled to use parachutes, rockets, and airbags to "bouncedown" on the red planet on July 4th, 1997. This Hubble Space Telescope image of Mars was taken a few days before this to check on the weather. The pathfinder landing site, on the ancient floodplain Ares Vallis, is just right of the center - 500 miles southeast of where Viking 1 landed in 1976. Along with the martian north polar cap, some water ice clouds are visible in both the northern and southern hemisphere. About 600 miles south of the landing site, a dust storm can be seen as a brownish ribbon, stretching through the the Valles Marineris, a continent sized canyon system. Fortunately, the dust storm was not expected to seriously affect operations at the landing site."

10 billion light-years away...

Giant Star Seen 150 Days Before it Exploded as a Supernova !

In April of 2023, a massive star exploded in NGC 4388, a spiral galaxy about 57 million light-years away. The Zwicky Transient Facility (ZTF) spotted it, and the supernova is called SN 2023 fyg. SN 2023fyq is a rare type of supernova called a Type Ibn.

They show a lack of hydrogen lines and narrow He I emission lines in their spectra. Astronomers think that these characteristics come from the SN interacting with hydrogen-poor, helium-rich circumstellar material (CSM.)

Astronomers only know of a few of these types of SN, so their progenitors are poorly understood. Prior to its explosion, the ZTF also spotted the precursor activity, providing a window into these mysterious progenitors.
