Pretty gross is happening this Wednesday 4-6pm
Check out this project by Fiber Sculpture community member Siena Nahl happening on Wednesday from 4-6pm in the Chora Gallery at CSULB!
From the show inviite:
“pretty gross. A micro art show experience featuring my pieces from the past three years at school. Visit the Chora Gallery at CSULB’s sculpture department from 4pm to 6pm for a chance to be fitted into @aspiringleo and I’s collaborative bodysuit pieces and a chance to look at my works. Viewers are encouraged to take on a personal experience of “wearing” someone’s else’s skin and undergoing a meditative inward experience. Pretty gross is a play on being pretty and gross at the same time and exploring the psychological responses to work that carries themes of beauty, sexuality and the relation to the human figure.”

GLAMFA this weekend @ CSULB
There will be lots of art to see this weekend on campus as part of GLAMFA 2018 and I want to make sure you are aware of all the events.
GLAMFA, Greater Los Angeles MFA, is a survey exhibition curated by graduate students at CSULB. The show features work from current MFA students from schools all over the the greater LA area and has become an annual tradition for the LA art community to discover the next wave of contemporary artists. This is the 13th year of the show, and it’s comprised of the work of 23 MFA students from CSUN, UCLA, UC San Diego, Claremont, Cal Arts, Art Center, and UC Irvine.
The event is on Sunday, January 28th.
You can see the exhibition in the campus galleries from 6-8pm, check out work by graduate students in the various CSULB departments in the open studios event from 5-7pm and there is a panel discussion at 3pm with artists Matt Wedel, Jennifer Reifsneider, and Camilo Cruz. (Bonus: One of the panelists, Jennifer Refsneider, makes Fiber sculpture work and is an alumni from the Fiber program.)
I would strongly encourage you to spend some time on Sunday experiencing what other Los Angeles based artists, just a few steps ahead of you in their education and practice development, are making and thinking about.

Happy Summer!
Thank you all for your dedication to the developing of your work this semester in Fiber Sculpture. It has been wonderful getting to know each of you and very rewarding to introduce you to some of the potential that textile making processes might offer your art making futures.
Here is the class picture from the final sentimental send off activity last week that I wanted to share.
Happy Summer and keep at it, the world needs your voice!
