Creating Emotionally Devastating Scenes.
Crafting a scene that earns the total sympathy of your readers can be challenging, but it's not impossible. Most emotionally devastating scenes fail at two things, but when these are done right, the results can be powerful.
⚪ The Important Concepts for Writing an Emotionally Devastating Scene
1. The Build-Up,
2. Breaking the Dam.
Before I explain these concepts, let me share a case study.
⚫ Case Study
I wrote a story about a young orphan named Jackie and her younger brother. Their village was burned down, leaving them as the only survivors.
For the next few chapters, readers followed their painful journey and their struggle to survive. The younger brother had a heart problem, and Jackie vowed to become a cardiologist to save him.
She was very ambitious about it, but at the time, it was very ironic. Later in the story, when they encountered a tragic living condition with a family, the brother died while telling his sister how much he missed their parents.
When her brother was fighting for his life, she was sent out of the room, only to be let in again to see his cold, lifeless body.
⚪ Explanation of Concepts
1. The Build-Up
The build-up is extremely important when you aim to convey strong emotions. Here's a secret: if you plan for a scene with strong emotions, start leaving breadcrumbs from the very beginning of the story.
Take the previous case study. I carefully built up their journey so people could easily relate and feel the pain of the older sister during her brother's sudden death.
You need to give the situation enough reason to feel utterly hopeless and devastating. Gradually cultivate the tension until it's ready to let loose.
⚫ Understanding the Use of Breadcrumbs.
Breadcrumbs in stories ensure you utilize the time you have to build up certain emotions around your characters.
At the beginning of my story, Jackie’s fate was already pitiable, but she survived every hurdle. This gave the readers enough to feel for her while still leaning away from the outcome. When I built enough, I introduced her brother's sudden death.
Hence, leave your breadcrumbs while leaning away from the outcome.
⚪ How to Properly Leave Breadcrumbs
When building up your story, consider these elements:
☞ Character Relatability: The characters need to be realistic to draw readers into the story. This helps readers invest themselves in your story.
☞ Realistic Emotional Pain: Just as characters need to be relatable, their emotions need to be realistic and not appear forced.
☞ Create a Strong Emotional Attachment: Give them something they care about or that has the power to ruin their lives in any way. It could be something that makes them happy or something their happiness relies on. When it's time, snatch it away without remorse.
☞ Have a Backstage Struggle: This struggle keeps readers occupied, so they won't see the outcome coming. For example, Jackie’s constant struggle to find food and shelter keeps readers engaged while the impending tragedy looms in the background.
☞ Attach Believable Elements: For a realistic character, emotion, and struggle, attach believable elements. It could be death, ailments, sickness, disorder, disappointment, failure, etc.
Now that we've covered the build-up, let's move on to the next crucial part.
2. Breaking the Dam
This is when you make your readers feel the strong emotions alongside your characters. All the tension you’ve been building up is released, making all emotions come into play.
☞ Break Your Strong Attachment: Cut off your strong attachment from your character when they least expect it or at a point when they couldn't use more struggles (i.e when they are helpless).
This will not only evoke readers’ emotions but also pique their curiosity as they wonder how the character will survive the situation.
☞ Description of Sensory Details to Invoke Emotions: The advice of "show, don't tell" will be really helpful here. It's crucial to ensure that the final execution matches the build-up.
A well-crafted build-up can fall flat if the emotional release isn't handled effectively. To avoid this, blend the climax seamlessly into the narrative, making it feel natural and impactful.

Chapter V: unveiling the past
SERIES MASTERLIST | previous | next
Tumblr media
You and Jungkook are abruptly pulled out of your sleep, both affected by the very intense and heated dream you inexplicably shared. The dream involved a lot of kissing, his mouth on your nipples, his tongue lapping at your juices, your tongue swirling along his hard shaft, and his manhood inside your wetted core. It was an intense dream that you both enjoyed way too much.
After the full moon, three days ago, you haven’t really seen or talked to each other. There have been some messages here and there, mostly messages where he checks up on you. Things aren’t awkward between you, you’d actually say the opposite. However, you’re actually convinced that next time you’ll see him you won’t be able to resist him.
“Soooo,” Lexi says once you’re in the kitchen.
This night, you’ve slept at Felix’s house with Lexi to spend a little bit of time together. This whole pregnancy and werewolf journey has pushed you a bit far from them, and you don’t want that. They are a big part of you, they’ve been by your side since the beginning. So Lexi literally decided the other day that instead of having dinner all together, it’d be better if you and she slept here. Like old good times.
“You have to tell me how the little monster’s father is,” she almost demands.
“I don’t have any picture,” you instantly answer while putting coffee in a mug.
“I’m not asking for a picture,” she says. “I want you to describe the man for me.”
You roll your eyes, she’s unbelievable. She’s always so nosy, and since she has learned about the ‘I keep the baby and the father comes along’ story, she’s been dead serious to know everything about Jungkook. However, you don’t really know how to explain to her that 1) you’re a werewolf, and 2) he’s a werewolf king.
“He’s just a man,” you answer.
“You’re boring, yn,” she says before taking a sip of coffee.
“Hi girls,” Felix enters the room with the brightest smile on his face.
He leaves a kiss on top of Lexi’s head before pressing one on your cheek. When his lips meet your cheek, you close your eyes to savor this sweet moment with your father. Being on your own is all good and funny, but you always miss his sweet good morning kisses.
“Hi dad,” Lexi says. “Can you tell yn to provide us with more description than ‘man’ for her baby daddy?”
“Well, at least we know he’s a man,” he teasingly says to his daughter.
“Dad,” she moans. “You’re not helping.”
As she’s complaining to her father, you grab a plate that you place on the table with your coffee before sitting down in front of her. You take a toast, put butter on, and eat it. This is delicious. Simple but delicious.
“Okay,” you surrender. “I’ll tell you.”
“Finally!” she exclaims. “It was about damn time!”
You roll your eyes once more. This lady has an incredible personality, but you adore her. She’s literally your sunshine, you couldn’t live without her.
“It’s a tall Korean man with black short hair,” you start saying. “He has dark brown eyes and has a very athletic body.”
“So you’ve gotten to see his body closely,” she plays with her eyebrows while insinuating something sexy.
“No, I didn’t,” you instantly lie.
She furrows her brows, she knows you’re lying. It’s written all over your face.
“You’re a terrible liar,” she snaps back. “Did you already have sex with him?”
Felix chokes on his coffee, Lexi and yourself now looking at him.
“Don’t talk about that around me,” he defends himself.
“Come one, Dad,” she says. “We’re not ten anymore, we’re thirty, and your daughter is pregnant. We know babies don’t fall from the sky.”
Lexi is the type of girl to be straightforward, especially with you and Felix. In this case, she’s not wrong, but it still feels weird to be talking about sex around him. He’s like a father to you, and it’s just awkward.
“Yeah, but still, I don’t want to know about what you do with guys,” he says.
“In this case,” you say. “We didn’t do anything like that,” you try to find an excuse without mentioning the wolf transformation. “He just spilled wine on his shirt and removed it in front of me.”
Lexi doesn’t buy it, but she pretends she does. She’s very much convinced you had sex with him, but you’re too ashamed to admit it.
“Mmm,” she says. “Is he hot at least?” she asks. “We need to know if yn junior is going to have good genetics from both parents.”
There’s a sudden heat growing under your cheeks. You don’t want to say that he’s obviously so fucking hot and that you’ve been desiring to do wild things with him. But you’re not going to say that.
“He’s not bad,” you answer. “But my kid doesn’t need him to be good-looking, they just need me.”
Now, she’s the one rolling her eyes. It’s hard to not live with her anymore because you love your little bickerings. She’ll forever be the sister the universe gave you, and despite the tragedy of losing your parents, having her and Felix is the biggest blessing of your life.
“With you as their mother, I’m mostly concerned about their ego, not their beauty.”
“You’re just jealous,” you say before taking another bite of your toast.
Before any of you can add something, your phone rings, your eyes looking down at the screen. It’s a message from Jungkook. A smile appears on your face.
“It’s your baby daddy, I guess,” her words make you look up at her.
“Maybe,” you say.
You take your phone to see what he wants.
From Jungkook: Hi yn, how are you today? 😊
His message warms your heart. He’s been asking you every morning how you feel, and you can’t help but find this sweet. You know it’s because you’re carrying his child, but it’s still nice of him to do it.
To Jungkook: Hey Jungkook, all good here, and you? 😊
His answer comes quite rapidly, Lexi looking at you very intrigued.
From Jungkook: I’m good too 😊 are you still up to meet the shadow’s alpha?
Now your heart starts hammering fast in your chest, and you take a deep breath. Meeting people who can help you unveil your parents’ past is exciting yet stressful. You wish nothing more than to meet this alpha, but you’re also scared of what you’ll find out.
“Are you okay?” Felix asks.
Your eyes look up to meet his. Although you absolutely adore him, you don’t want to tell him about this yet. You don’t even know how to tell him that you’re a werewolf. One thing you’re sure of, you want to know a bit more about your parents’ story before telling him anything. You’ll tell him one day, but not just yet.
“Yeah,” you say.
To Jungkook: yep still good
Then, you agree with him to meet tomorrow at 4 pm. As you don’t want to stress too much over it, you join Lexi and Felix’s conversation.
Tumblr media
Your heart is beating extremely fast, your foot taping nervously on the floor, and your eyes gazing at the city passing before you. People are walking on the busy streets, many cars are moving around you while Jungkook is driving to the house of Mister Song Sungmin.
None of you speaks, his eyes glancing at you from time to time. He’s not sure if he should say something; he’s scared to say something he shouldn’t or that will hurt you. This is such an important moment for you. You’re about to meet someone that might have known your parents, and their true past.
“You okay?” he simply asks after a while.
“Yes,” your eyes leave the city to look at the man driving.
He’s back to wearing a suit which makes him look powerful, as always. You guess that he’s wearing a suit to reinforce his stature as king, projecting authority for the meeting you’re about to have with an Alpha.
This time around, it’s a grey suit with a black shirt underneath it. He’s extremely hot. But your mind doesn’t really dwell on it for long. All you truly think about is this meeting. It’s what truly matters right now.
A couple of minutes later, you arrive in front of a very pretty house. It seems to be the cozy type.
“Before going inside, there are a few things to know,” Jungkook explains. “Song Sungmin is one of the most powerful Alphas of your pack. He’s moved here after meeting his wife, Song Eunji who happens to be the daughter of a Blood. He’s also the uncle of my best friend, Taehyung.”
You nod before taking Jungkook’s hand to give it a gentle squeeze.
“Thanks,” you whisper.
He offers you a small smile, a cute little dimple appearing on his face. Every time he smiles at you, you want to touch it.
“I’d do anything to help you.”
And you’re grateful for everything he has done so far. No matter how things evolve between you, you’ll carry him closely in your heart. For sure, your baby is lucky to have him as their father.
“Let me know when you feel ready,” his thumb soothes your hand.
“We can go,” you tell him. “No need to make this last longer.”
In no time, you’re standing on Mister Song’s porch, waiting for him to open the door. Your heart is strongly hammering in your chest. This is more than scary, but you feel like you’re slowly getting closer to unveiling the truth about your parents. Strangely, it also makes you feel closer to them.
When he opens the door, your entire world freezes. Even your heart stops beating. You know this man. You met him twenty years ago, on the night your parents were killed. He’s the man that protected you from the butchery.
Twenty years ago, you were watching TV with your parents, but around 8 pm, somebody knocked at the door. It was your mother that opened it, and she was discussing with a man before she came to take you.
“Mommy and Daddy need to do something,” she told you in her honey-like voice. “This man is a good friend of mine, and he will take care of you while we’re gone.”
You were only ten so you didn’t question it. You didn’t think much about the fact they had something to do at 8 pm, something definitely unusual. You didn’t question the fact that you had never seen this man before. You didn’t even notice how scared she looked. You didn’t question anything, something you’ve deeply regretted your entire life.
This man took you to an ice cream store, offered you all the ice cream you wanted, and talked to you. Back then, you felt like the luckiest girl in the world. It wasn’t every day that an old friend of your parents would come and give you all the ice cream you wanted. Over time, you forgot about the man’s name because, on that tragic night, you lost your parents. This man didn’t matter anymore.
Jungkook’s glance goes from you to Sungmin, and he doesn’t need to be a genius to understand you both know each other. It’s definitely surprising, but not completely. You’re living in the same city, and you’re part of the same pack.
“You’ve already met, I suppose,” Jungkook breaks the long silence between you.
You and Sungmin nod, your eyes never leaving his.
“Please come inside,” he invites you in.
Before closing the door, he looks around to make sure nobody else is there.
“Would you like something to drink or eat?” he proposes with a smile on his face.
As you look at him, you notice that he hasn’t changed at all, except for the grey hair. He still has a warm and comforting smile on his face. A smile you never forgot.
“No, thank you,” you answer.
Jungkook answers the same, and the older man guides you toward the terrace. His house is pretty modest and filled with pictures everywhere. It might be his children and grandchildren. There are also pictures of him younger and he definitely hasn’t changed in a while. It seems like he always had this compelling posture as if he has always meant to be an Alpha.
“Please take a seat,” he shows the chairs arranged around the table.
The three of you sit down, your eyes wandering around. This terrace is very beautiful, you hope that one day you’ll have a similar one. But you’ll need to earn a lot more money.
“So this is yn,” Jungkook introduces you. “The woman I talked to you about on the phone.”
“I know who she is,” the older man says, his eyes moving to you. “You’ve grown a lot in twenty years,” he smiles at you. “And you’ve become a wonderful woman.”
“Thanks,” you smile back at him. “You haven’t changed at all.”
Sungmin looks away for a minute as he wants to hide the tears forming in his eyes. You are his biggest secret. Nobody ever knew that, twenty years ago, he offered you as much ice cream as you desired. When he looks back at you and Jungkook, you only feel compassion for this man.
“I knew one day we’d meet again and I’ve been waiting every day, for the past twenty years,” he begins. “I was expecting you to come earlier, but I’m glad you finally came.”
“What happened?” Jungkook asks with curiosity.
Sungmin takes a deep breath, a lump forming in his throat as he remembers the events.
“Twenty years ago, your father the king found her parents. The ones that were running away from the pack for ten years.”
He doesn’t need to say much more. Jungkook knows. On your side, you frown, not sure to understand what he means, but you carefully listen to him.
“When I was informed of it, I ran to their house. I needed to see for myself if their child was still alive. If they really had a child ten years prior. Before I even knocked at the door, I heard that little giggle only a kid can do. It broke my heart,” a tear runs down his face. “And I took the terrible decision to take that child away from the house. I took that child as far away as possible because I was scared they could hear the screams of their parents. I didn’t want that child to grow up with that trauma.”
Then, you start to understand what is going on. You’re not a werewolf, or at least not completely. You’re a hybrid, and your parents were killed because of that. That explains why they never talked about it to you. They didn’t know if one day you’ll manifest any wolf signs. That’s why they also ran away from their hometown, and why your grandparents never approved their love. One of them was a human.
“I lied to everybody, I made them believe I had killed the child. Since nobody saw her face, it was easy to lie,” he looks down at the table. “I knew what I did was wrong, but killing a ten-year-old for a sin she never committed was inhuman. Putting an end to a pregnancy is one thing, but cutting short a child’s life is totally another,” his eyes look back up at you. “I don’t regret what I did, and I will never regret it.”
Shivers run down your spine. So your wolf abilities weren’t really dormant, they were there all along, but they were mixed with human blood. The pregnancy simply awoke that side of you, especially since you’re carrying a wolf’s child. Your baby is the reason why you’re now able to turn, and why your powers have increased. Your baby is the reason why you’re finally digging into your past.
“Since you’re a hybrid, I never knew what to expect. All I expected was for you to find me one day, and you did.”
“So Jung… Mister Jeon’s father is the reason why my parents were killed?” you ask.
Jungkook finds it weird that you call him Mister Jeon, but he can understand it. You’ve always been very respectful and even though you’re pretty close now, you still respect his king stature.
“No,” he shakes his head. “We are.”
Tears start appearing in your eyes, and both men only feel sorry for you.
“Your mother was a werewolf and had fallen in love with a human. She was the rebellious type, she never really followed the rules. Her parents and the pack were repeating that this love story would only end badly, but she didn’t care. Then, she got pregnant and ran away with your father,” Sungmin explains. “Hybrids are forbidden as you might know so we tracked her. For nine years we looked for them, but it was in vain. We then asked for the king’s help because he had better resources than us. In a year, he found you and we did what we had to.”
Now, the tears run down your face as you realize the extent of the situation. Your entire existence is forbidden. You shouldn’t exist, but here you are. And on top of that, you’re pregnant with the king’s child. Another forbidden life.
“How did my mother react when she saw you?” you ask.
“She wasn’t surprised at all, she even thought I was going to kill her, but I told them I wanted to protect the three of you,” he answers. “She told me that the only person she wanted me to protect was you. She was ready to face the consequences of her actions, but she didn’t want you to die for her sins.”
Thinking about her selfless move breaks your heart. You’re trying as hard as possible to not burst into tears in front of this man. Your mother always put you first, she was always making sure you were happy.
“She knew that the pack would kill you first, right in front of her eyes. She didn’t want her last souvenir to be that so I respected her last will—to protect you.”
Jungkook’s hand finds yours to hold it as tight as possible. This mustn’t be easy to hear. It mustn’t be easy to learn that you’re a hybrid. The only living hybrid.
“Who murdered them?” you ask. “My grandparents?”
The older man shakes his head. “They weren’t even present; how could they be? No matter what, she was their daughter. A daughter they deeply loved. It was another Alpha who did it,” he seems obviously very shaken up by this event. “Our pack has never been the same since then. Your grandparents retreated completely, grieving forever a daughter and granddaughter they lost. Each year, we gather together at your grandparents’ place to pay tribute to your mother and you.”
It devastates beyond comprehension to picture it. People have been grieving someone alive all along. People have been thinking about you when they hadn’t even met you.
“Even if you’re a hybrid, you’re part of our pack, and your grandparents always made sure to include you in those heartbreaking moments.”
“So you never revealed to them I was alive?” you ask.
Sungmin shakes his head. “I tried many times, but the words never left my lips.”
Right now, you only want to disappear. You don’t want anybody to see you while this devastating pain eats you alive. Mister Song and your parents protected you from death. They allowed you to live when you shouldn’t have.
Your wish to disappear is granted when you do so due to all the intense emotions you’re feeling right now. Jungkook is then unable to see you, but he can still feel you as his hand remains on yours. His fingers never stop caressing you in an attempt to calm the storm growing inside you.
Sungmin follows you and disappears as well but you’re still able to see him. You still see him like he didn’t blur into his surroundings. It’s so weird.
“I’m so sorry, yn,” his hand reaches out to yours, a hand that you hold.
“It’s not your fault,” you try to reassure him. “You did what my mother wanted; you protected me from a certain death.”
“But I could have insisted, I could have protected them,” he answers.
“You know better than I do that the pack would have never stopped looking for them. The issue would have been the same no matter what.”
Your parents' end was destined to be tragic, but they chose to love each other. They chose each other despite the bans. They chose to have a child together and protect you as long as they could.
They knew from the beginning that you’d end up growing up without them. And right now, you hate them as much as you love them. They did all this for you, but you still hate them for knowing you’d be alone and without them.
Then Sungmin reappears, his gaze serious and looking at Jungkook, his king. He knows now what will happen to him. He’s a traitor. He helped a forbidden couple, protected a child that shouldn’t exist, and lied to the entire werewolf community.
“Mister Jeon,” his voice tone is deep. “I’m ready to face the consequences of my acts.”
Your heart hammers in your chest, your eyes now looking at Jungkook. Slowly, you reappear as well. Jungkook has never faced such a situation, and he can’t make a decision in the heat of the moment. He needs to think, and most probably, he’ll have to report this incident to the council. Not only did Sungmin break the rules, but there’s a hybrid walking amongst them. The council will show no mercy to you and Sungmin.
But he can’t lose you, not after all of this.
He has a very strong and deep connection with you, and you’re carrying his child. This isn’t simple anymore.
“Mister Song,” he says with a very strong tone. “I appreciate your honesty; it has enlightened us about Miss y/l/n’s past. But I can’t decide right now what to do.”
The older man nods, understanding that Jungkook is now deeply involved. He can hear that faint heartbeat in your belly, and above anything else, he can smell that baby’s scent. It’s a unique one. They’re carrying the strong scent that only the child of a king has. He can also see how deeply the king cares about you.
His decision doesn’t just implicate the Alpha. It implicates you, the baby, and him. Whatever he decides, the three of you will be impacted. It isn’t a light decision to make.
“I will be thinking about it and come back to you once I’ve decided.”
The Alpha bows to his king as a sign of respect. It’s really impressive the power Jungkook holds, and how even such an old Alpha submits to his king. This is incredible.
“Thank you, your Majesty,” he says while bowing.
Tumblr media
The drive back to your place is done in complete silence. In some way, the car feels heavier, as if the weight of the truth you’ve just learned is pressing down on you. This time, your eyes are red and swollen, and your face is ravaged by the tear you couldn’t hold back anymore. Learning about your past terribly scared you, but knowing it breaks your heart. Now, you know what happened on that tragic night in July. You now understand why your parents were so cruelly murdered—or should you say executed—, and why you were spared.
Jungkook keeps his eyes focused on the road, but you can sense the tension in him. His grip on the wheel is tight, his knuckles turning white, and he constantly glances in your direction. He wants to say something, to comfort you, but nothing seems to come out of his mouth. He isn’t even sure his words will ever be able to comfort you.
Once in front of the apartment complex, he slows the car to a stop. His eyes shift to you fully for the first time. There’s something in his expression that stops your heart. There isn’t only worry, there’s pain as well, as if he’s carrying this burden with you. You’ve never seen that in his gaze; he’s never looked at you this way before, so unguarded, so raw.
The moment your eyes lock with his, the world around you seems to disappear. There’s no sound, no city around you, no heartbeats echoing in your ears. There’s just the two of you. His presence is comforting, it’s like he’s healing your sorrows in a way you can’t explain. How can someone make you feel this way, so understood, so seen?
“Can you stay with me, please?” you finally ask as you try to control your voice. “I don’t want to stay alone today.”
His response is immediate, and his voice is reassuring, “Sure,” he nods. “I’ll stay as long as you need me.”
The gratitude in your chest is overwhelming, and you manage to offer him a small smile.
“Thanks,” you murmur.
Jungkook pulls into the nearest parking space before cutting the engine. You sit there for a moment, neither of you speaking. The air is heavy with unspoken emotions. Finally, he steps out of the car and moves around to your side, opening the door and offering you his hand. His touch is warm, and grounding, and you take it without hesitation.
Without removing your hand from his, you both walk to your apartment. Jungkook is very much tempted to intertwine his fingers with yours; to offer you some unspoken reassurance but he doesn’t do anything, too scared of crossing an invisible line. Even inside the elevator, your hands remain locked. Neither of you speaks, but the warmth of his palm against yours feels reassuring. You only separate your hands to open the door.
When you get inside, you both strip off your coats and shoes. You look at him, and he is lingering near the door, unsure whether he should move further.
“Do you want to drink or eat something?” you ask out of politeness.
“No, thanks,” he shakes his head. His voice is calm, but there’s something in his eyes. There’s concern, guilt, and ache that he doesn’t try to hide.
You nod and move to the living room to sit on the couch. Jungkook hesitates for a moment before joining you, sitting close but not too close. However, you close the distance as you throw yourself in his arms. You don’t hold back any tears, now crying in his arms. You’ve only known him for two months, but nobody has ever made you feel like this. You can undoubtedly trust him.
You rest your head against his chest, tears spilling over. He doesn’t hesitate, wrapping an arm around you, his hand gently rubbing your back. The warmth of his embrace melts some tension inside you, and for the first time today, you feel like you can breathe again.
None of you speaks, Jungkook just rubs your back while you cry in his arms. You deeply miss your parents and discovering what truly happened to them devastates you beyond comprehension. Will you ever be able to overcome this? Will you now be able to finally accept your parents’ death?
You’re not sure, but only time will tell.
However, now the biggest question is what will happen to you? You’re a hybrid. You’re not supposed to exist, let alone the life growing inside you. Will you have to terminate the pregnancy? Will you be executed like your parents were twenty years ago? Jungkook is the only one who can answer you. He’s the one who’ll have to make that decision.
And, then there are your grandparents. They believe that you’re dead, and you’d like to meet them. You’d like to tell them that you’re very much alive, that Mister Song protected you all this time, that he saved your life. You’d like to tell them that they don’t have to honor your memory anymore.
But you aren’t even sure you can do that. You aren’t even sure that they’ll accept to meet you.
And there’s also your paternal grandparents. You’d also like to meet them. They are human, and their opinion of you might be pretty much different. Unless they know their son married a werewolf. Now that you know the truth, you desperately desire to meet your grandparents. The four of them.
You’d also like to know if you have uncles, aunts, and cousins. There is so much you want to know about your family, but let’s not rush anything. First, you need to digest what Sungmin revealed. There was a lot of information.
Slowly, but surely, your tears stop falling down, and the pain inside your heart seems to be a bit more bearable. But you still hold onto his embrace for a little more. You don’t want to let go of him just yet.
“Thanks a lot for your support,” you say while you put an end to the embrace and clean your face. “You’ve helped me so much.”
“You don’t have to thank me,” he smiles. “You were embarked in this by my fault. The least I can do is help you.”
“This was never your fault in the first place,” you shake your head.
Maybe the clinic’s mistake wouldn’t have changed anything. Maybe, no matter who the father was, the pregnancy would have awakened your wolf blood. But, no matter what you have wolf blood in you, and sooner or later, something would have triggered it. The good part is that with the clinic’s mistake, you have Jungkook by your side.
“But now we’ve discovered I’m a hybrid,” you continue.
Jungkook nods, his hand running through his hair. It’s the first time that he doesn’t know what to do. He’s completely lost because he’s starting to have feelings for you, and because it involves his child too. The rules are clear: hybrids can’t exist. But he never pictured himself falling for one, and having a child with one too. Your baby carries human blood; they aren’t of pure blood. How can such an heir exist? Nobody will ever accept to be ruled by the child of a hybrid.
On top of that, this child is also the first one who isn’t fully a Blood. They have the blood of the Shadows running down their veins. Jungkook strongly believes that his blood will predominate, but there’s still a chance that they choose to be a Shadow. It will destabilize everything.
The thing with mixed-blood kids is that nature will choose to which pack they’ll belong. Nobody can belong to two packs. For sure, they’ll carry the heritage of both since their parents will be from two different packs. But we can’t know beforehand which pack they’ll be part of. It’ll only be found out at birth because once out of the womb, they’ll have the pack’s eye color for a couple of days.
There are so many unknowns now with this child.
And he still has to reveal to his family he’s about to become a father. He was waiting to discover a bit more about your past before telling them about this wonderful news. But now, things are again complicated. His mother will tell him to put an end to both yours and the baby’s life. He’s not sure how his siblings might react to this, but he’s not expecting something positive.
“What will happen to me?” you ask with a shaky voice.
His eyes meet yours, and they are glowing with something that gives you some hope.
“I’ll protect you,” he responds without hesitation. “Nobody is ever going to hurt you. I won’t let anyone touch you,” his tone is firm and assertive.
Your heart now beats rapidly in your chest. It reassures you that he’ll protect you, and it means a lot since he’s a king. He’s supposed to be the one who leads by example, yet, he’ll be the first one breaking the rules. He’s going to protect a hybrid, a person that shouldn’t exist.
Jungkook gets closer, his hand delicately placing a strand of hair behind your ear. This simple gesture sends shivers down your spine. Your eyes get lost in his, and the world seems to disappear around you as his thumb lightly brushes against your cheek, leaving a warmth that spreads through your entire body.
Time seems to pause, the air between you charged with unspoken desire. His face moves dangerously closer to yours until you feel his hot breath on your skin. Your heart hammers faster and faster in your chest, and for a brief moment, nothing else matters. There is no doubt that he’s about to kiss you, and truthfully, there’s nothing else you want more right now.
You know you wanted your first kiss to be deliberate, free from the chaos of emotions you’ve been swept into. But none of that matters now. The yearning you’ve buried rises to the surface, consuming you. All you care about is to taste his lips against yours. You want to know how they feel on yours. Those wild sex dreams have ignited something inside you, and you terribly desire to bring those dreams to life.
His nose brushes against yours, the bare touch making you shiver. His proximity is intoxicating, and your lips are a breath away from meeting. When his eyes search yours, you know he’s silently asking for permission. And this time, you don’t pull away. Instead, your lips part slightly, and he sees the answer in your expression.
Then, he finally closes the distance. His lips press against yours with hesitation at first. The kiss is soft, and it feels like you’re discovering a part of yourself you never knew existed. His hand finds its way to the back of your neck, holding you while he deepens the kiss.
The world entirely disappears as his lips move against yours, guiding you, consuming you. Your body leans into his instinctively, your hands finding his chest, the fabric of his shirt bunching beneath your fingers. When his tongue brushes your lower lip, your stomach flips, and you let him in.
The sensation is overwhelming and beautiful, a perfect blend of desire and intimacy as your tongues meet in a slow, sensual dance. He tastes like everything you’ve ever craved but never let yourself hope for. The kiss is tender as if he’s pouring all his emotions into this single moment.
When you break the kiss, you’re both breathless, foreheads resting against each other as your eyes meet once again. Jungkook’s fingers softly caress your face, his touch is so soft it almost makes you shiver. You close your eyes to savor this moment.
It’s a victory—not his, not yours, but yours together. You’ve been fighting this connection, but there’s no denying it anymore. This kiss has unraveled something inside you, and now there’s no going back. Now that you’ve had a taste of him, you know one thing for sure: he’s become impossible to resist.
His lips meet yours once more, but this time, he’s kissing you with a fervent passion. While kissing you, his strong body pushes you, allowing you to lay on the couch, his body hovering over yours. Then, his lips slowly descend to your jaw, your neck, cleavage, and they stop right above your shirt.
His eyes look up to meet yours as if he’s asking permission to keep going down. You nod, giving him free will to do whatever he wants. Without wasting any more time, his hand pushes down your shirt with your bra, exposing your breasts to his hungry eyes. The coldness of the air sends shivers through your body, your nipples hardening instantly. His breathing gets heavier as his eyes are glued to your chest.
“Fuck,” he mumbles.
Then, without any warning, his warm mouth meets your right nipple to torture it with his tongue and teeth. Instant moans fall out your lips, and your hands find their way to his hair, playing with some strands while he vigorously sucks on your nipple. It feels blissful. You never imagined a simple kiss could lead to this.
His left hand assaults your other breast, louder moans escape your lips, loving the way he’s giving you pleasure with his mouth and fingers. Your hands slightly pull at his hair while your mind is completely lost in lust. You’re completely unable to think correctly. The man on top of you shows no mercy, torturing you in the most exquisite way possible.
Jungkook definitely knows how to use his fingers and mouth, and damn, it’s even better than any wild dreams you had involving him. You don’t even want to start thinking about how it must feel to have his dick inside you.
“Jungkook…” you whisper as you picture him naked again.
That sweet sound makes his shaft grow harder, the space slowly growing smaller inside his pants. The way you turn him on is unique, nobody holds such a powerful grip on him. His mouth moves then to your left nipple to treat it exactly like your other nipple. The wetness inside your underwear only grows bigger, you can feel it. The amount of pleasure he’s giving you right now is out of mind, and you know you’ll come quickly.
His right hand snails down on your body, stopping when it reaches the hem of your trousers. Very carefully, he unbuttons and unzips them. The second his fingers brush your core through your panties, a deep guttural sound leaves your lips, and your hand pulls harder into his hair. That action causes him to moan against your nipple.
This is such a blissful torture, but if he keeps touching you like that and moaning against your body, you’ll come undone rapidly.
His fingers slowly rub your pussy through your underwear, making you slowly turn into a moaning mess. Your body is contorting with pleasure under his, and you can feel his half-hard dick brushing against your thighs. The feeling is marvelous as you get to sense how’s feeling about this too.
Then, without further notice, he slips his fingers under your panties. His hand cups your pussy whole, and you both moan at the sensation. Jungkook is instantly welcomed with your wetness on his hot palm. Another moan slips through his mouth which makes you whimper. There’s no way you’ll survive this.
“You’re so fucking wet,” he murmurs.
Jungkook drags his fingers down your slit, purposely avoiding your clit. You close your eyes in order to feel this all even more profoundly, a deep breath escaping your lips. The coldness of his fingers against your core is electrifying. You’re getting addicted to this man as he gives you more and more pleasure. How have you been living this whole time without his touch?
You lick your lips as he slowly rubs you up and down, spreading your own wetness over your sensitive skin. This feels so good, and it pushes away all the terrible emotions you went through today. His eyes look up at you as he desires to picture your face while being consumed by pleasure.
Your hips twitch against the couch when the tip of his finger brushes on your clit. As he does so, you feel a pleasurable electricity rushing through your body. Jungkook’s mouth stops abusing your nipple, his eyes completely hypnotized on your sweet face. His hand runs up and down your core and he makes sure that his fingertip touches your clit.
“How does it feel?” he finally breaks the silence.
“So…” you try to speak while he never stops his ministrations. “So good,” you whimper.
His fingertip now draws circles into your hardened clit, your back arching off of the couch, and your hips meeting his hand. The friction of his hand against your pussy is beyond delightful, his fingers bringing you straight to heaven.
“Jungkook,” you moan his name on repeat.
Your orgasm is slowly growing inside you, you know you won’t last any longer. It’s just a matter of seconds now. The man above you senses it the second your legs start shaking more and more. His fingers work harder, helping you chase your own pleasure.
Then, you let go and the wave of pleasure violently washes over you. Jungkook stops his movements when he feels your juices leaking all over his hand. A smirk grows on his face, proud of himself for giving you an orgasm.
Jungkook removes his hand from your panties and buckles back your pants. Your heavy breathing slowly gets back to normal and after a while, you open back your eyes. The man who just gave you an orgasm offers you the brightest smile on earth.
“Hope you like it,” he says.
“It was wooow,” you tell him as you sit back on the couch.
The man presses a soft kiss on your cheek before arranging your messy hair. He can’t help but find you extremely adorable.
“Next time,” he whispers in your ear. “My fingers won’t be the only thing giving you an orgasm,” his deep voice sends shivers down your spine. His tongue licks your ear, a deep moan leaving your mouth.
The two of you know that this is just the beginning of what is going on between you. This connection is only growing stronger, and sooner or later, he’ll be standing between your legs, thrusting deeply inside of you.
And honestly, you can’t wait for that day to happen.
Tumblr media
Tonight, Jungkook has arranged a family dinner.
It’s about time he reveals yours and the child’s existence to his family members. He’s pretty much nervous about this, but he has to tell them. A new life will join this family very soon. The next heir is on the way, and he can’t hide this from them any longer.
His mother is the first one to arrive, and she takes him in her arms. Then, a couple of minutes later, his younger brothers Hyunjin and Mingi make their appearances. And finally, Dohee appears with her husband, Namjoon.
It’s been a while since the entire family has been reunited under this roof. Dohee left the house eight years ago when she married Namjoon. His mother, Hyunjin, and Mingi left after the passing of his father. Back then, Yuna was slowly moving in and they wanted to give them the space they needed. After the breakup, they didn’t come back; they felt like it wasn’t their home anymore.
Hyunjin is six years younger than Jungkook, and he’s been in a very serious relationship with Nari for five years. Jungkook is surprised he hasn’t proposed to her yet; she’s his soulmate after all. Then, there’s Mingi, the youngest Jeon. He’s ten years younger and he was the surprise baby; their parents weren’t trying to have a baby at that time. Out of the four of them, Mingi was the most spoiled.
Even though Jungkook is closer to Dohee, the four Jeon’s siblings have a strong bond. The oldest always made sure they’d get along because family is so damn important. Their father’s death brought them even closer, and they’ve always been by their mother’s side to ensure she doesn’t grieve alone.
“So,” Jungkook begins, his eyes looking at the five people around the table. “Thanks for coming,” he smiles at them.
Dohee smiles back at her brother, her hand rubbing her belly. She should soon give birth to her fourth and, most probably, last child.
“There is a new Jeon on the way,” Jungkook’s smile grows bigger as he breaks the news.
Jisoo, Jungkook’s mother stands up to hold her oldest child in her arms. Jungkook embraces her with the same strength, a tear forming in his eyes as her reaction deeply moves him.
“I’m so happy, Kook,” she says, her cheek pressed against his chest.
While he hugs his mother, he sees his sister’s face. Although she’s smiling and seems happy, something in her expression unsettles him. He knows she’s thinking about the fact that the baby is a hybrid; she was the only one aware of it back then. But, so much has happened since he talked to her, events that she will know now.
His mother sits back in her chair while her hands clean the tears on her face. Another one of her children is about to make her a grandmother again. Dohee is the only one who has been giving her grandchildren, and she’s happy Jungkook is also going to give her another one. She can’t wait to have her house filled with grandchildren.
His siblings and Namjoon congratulate him on the fantastic news. Although their reactions make him happy, he knows this light mood will not last long. They most probably will hate him when he’ll tell them what you truly are.
“Have you already met the surrogate?” his mother asks out of curiosity.
“A surrogate?” Hyunjin asks.
“I sought the help of a fertility clinic to have a child,” Jungkook explains to his brother. “It was getting harder to be waiting to become a father.”
His eyes move back to his mother to answer her question.
“But there’s no surrogate, mom,” he tells her.
Everybody’s reaction is the same. They all widen their eyes, except his sister. She’s known this for a month already, but she’s now worried about why he’s revealing this to the family. He should know nobody will be happy about him being a father to a hybrid, especially their mother.
“Are you with somebody?” she asks. “Or is it Yuna?”
“It’s absolutely not Yuna,” he instantly answers. “And I’m not with anyone, at least, not yet,” he rants.
Jisoo seems to be happy about all of this, but she still wants to understand how on earth he’s about to be a father if there’s no girlfriend and no surrogate. She starts wondering if he slept with someone only to have a child.
“The fertility clinic made a big mistake,” he explains. “A woman was mistakenly impregnated with my material, and at first, I thought she was a human. Obviously, this wasn’t possible since the baby would then be a hybrid,” they all shake their heads.
Jungkook purposely omits that he didn’t convince you to abort; his mother would kill him if she ever found out. Dohee takes a deep breath and shifts on her chair to try to find a comfortable position.
“But then, I found out that she wasn’t human,” he proceeds. “And it changed everything, she could keep the baby.”
Dohee’s expression now fully changes. She wasn’t expecting that, so she’s now very happy for her brother to have a pure-blood kid. Jungkook notices her sincere smile, and it already hurts him to even think about what he’s about to say next.
“However, she didn’t know that she was a werewolf.”
Now, they all frown, confused by this sentence. It clearly doesn’t make any sense.
“How’s that possible?” Mingi asks.
Jungkook’s heart stammers in his chest. How does he explain now who you truly are? He’s not even sure he wants to do it, but he doesn’t have much of a choice. His family needs to learn from him that you’re a hybrid. Not from someone else.
“Her parents left their hometown, cut ties with their families, never told her about her wolf side, and died when she was still a kid,” he summarizes. “She was then raised by a human and never found out the truth until she got pregnant.”
He hardly swallows before he continues to reveal what has been going on for the past nine weeks. Honestly, those past weeks have been an emotional rollercoaster.
“I’ve been trying to help her discover what happened because as you can imagine, it’s a lot to take in.”
His heart is going crazy in his chest, and he’s barely able to look at his family as he proceeds with the story.
“She’s part of the Shadows, and I reached out to Mister Song to help us unveil her past.”
They remain in silence, letting Jungkook speak. The man takes then an unreadable expression on his face to protect himself from what is about to come. He hates that he has to do it with his family, but he has to.
“Mister Song told us that thirty years ago, a Shadow woman ran away with a human,” his heart beats faster. His eyes move to his mother, hoping that she recalls that incident.
“Oh yeah, I remember that,” she says. “The Shadows couldn’t find them so they reached out to your father. After ten years, they managed to find them and their child.”
Jungkook bites his lower lip and he’s not sure how to continue with the story. Does he say now that you’re a hybrid? Does he maintain the mystery any longer?
“Well, we found out that the child was never killed,” he explains while avoiding saying that Sungmin spared your life. “And that child is the mother of mine.”
For a moment, the room is filled with a sharping silence. Jungkook doesn’t look away, trying to understand their expressions. They are all speechless, but he can see anger forming in his mother’s eyes. He was expecting it; she has never messed with the rules. He admires her for following the rules, not everybody does it, but this time around, it will be hard for her. He’s not going to abandon you because of your true nature.
Mingi and Hyunjin are surprised but seem intrigued by all of this. Jungkook can see that curious flicker in their eyes. Dohee seems utterly shocked, but her expression softens when her eyes meet her brother’s. Namjoon seems mind-blown. And Jisoo, the matriarch, looks angry.
“What?” Namjoon is the first one to break the silence. “A hybrid has been living for thirty years and nobody ever found out.”
Jungkook nods. “Yep.”
“A hybrid?” Mingi says. “That’s cool,” he continues.
“Mingi,” the mother’s harsh voice echoes in the room. “Hybrids are forbidden, there’s absolutely nothing cool about them,” her eyes now move to Jungkook. “And you, my son,” she’s very angry. “You know what you have to do.”
As he hears her words, a strong feeling of protection grows in him. Even if she’s his mother, she can’t tell him what to do, especially when it includes you.
“No,” his tone is firm. “There won’t be any killing.”
“Neither the baby nor her can exist, son,” she responds.
“Like I said, there won’t be any killing,” his voice is calm, but still very firm.
Dohee, Mingi, Hyunjin, and Namjoon watch in disbelief the scene displaying in front of their eyes. It’s the first time Jungkook is using that tone on their mother, and it’s also the very first time he’s not agreeing with her. It seems like an unrealistic moment.
“She’s a hybrid, for fuck’s sake,” she swears, catching everybody off guard. “She can’t exist! It’s already a miracle she managed to live up until now, but you have to end her life right now before anybody else ever finds out about her.”
“Do you hear yourself, mom?” he says. “You’re talking about killing someone like it’s the same as making a cake. We’re talking about a life. In this case, even about two lives.”
The king runs his fingers through his hair, a sign that he’s extremely nervous. He knew his mother wouldn’t accept any of this, but it’s harder than he imagined. He hates to be standing against her. She has always been by his side, supporting him whenever he needed it.
“I’m not saying it like that, but the rules are the rules,” she says.
“Then, fuck the rules!” he swears.
Now, everybody is surprised by his words. This isn’t the Jungkook they used to know; he’s been always composed and now, it seems to be losing it.
“Jungkook,” Dohee tries to intervene.
“Don’t Jungkook me,” he says to his sister.
He’s trying to stay calm, but it’s getting harder. Nobody seems to understand what he’s feeling.
“It’s easy for everybody to follow the rules when it doesn’t involve your child,” his voice tone gets higher. “I got attached to that baby even if they’re not born yet. I constantly hear their heartbeat every time I’m around her, and I can’t put an end to their life. It’s a big no,” he’s very firm. “It’s my child we’re talking about.”
Tears start forming in his eyes, and his mother’s heart breaks as she hears his words. It makes her realize the complexity of the situation. For a moment, she puts herself in his shoes, trying to understand him.
When she found out that she was pregnant with Jungkook, it was the most beautiful day of her life. She desired her entire life to become a mother, and after her marriage, that desire only grew bigger. Hearing her son’s faint heartbeat was such an appeasing sound, and it was the prettiest sound she ever heard.
So, imagining that she needed to terminate the pregnancy because that child is a hybrid breaks her heart. It’s a decision she’s not sure she’ll be able to make. But the rules are the rules. Even if her grandchild will have more wolf blood than human blood, that doesn’t change the fact that the mother is a hybrid. She shouldn’t even exist in the first place.
“And she’s my soulmate,” his voice breaks.
Jungkook has been pushing aside the nature of his feelings for you, but after yesterday’s events, he finally realized it. You’re his soulmate. You’re the person that destiny chose for him. You’re the person with whom he’s supposed to mate. It’s a powerful bond that nobody will ever be able to break.
“I will protect her at all costs,” he adds.
His mother closes her eyes in disbelief.
“There’s nothing we can say, then,” Dohee concludes. “Except for Mingi, we all know how it feels to be around your soulmate, how powerful the love is, how deep the connection is, and what we’ll do to save our soulmates. For sure, she’s not supposed to exist, but destiny bonded her to you, our king. You have all powers, and we all know you’ll put her safety first,” she quickly looks at her husband. “I can’t blame you, Kookie. In your shoes, I would do the same. I’d save and protect Namjoon even if he was a hybrid.”
Jungkook looks at his mother, expecting now a reaction from her. Like Dohee said, she should know how he feels. For sure, his situation is messy as hell, but there’s not much he can do. If he kills you, he’ll forever be dead on the inside. A soulmate is a one-time thing; he doesn’t get to have two soulmates.
“This is like a movie, but better,” Mingi says with a playful smile on his face. “Our brother, known as the werewolf king, falls in love with a hybrid, a forbidden species in our world, and he got her pregnant.”
“Stop being silly, Ming,” Hyunjin strikes his elbow against Mongi’s. “This is serious.”
“Rooh,” Mingi says. “I’m just trying to lighten the mood. I know it’s serious, but as Dohee said, there’s nothing we can do. The hybrid is Jk’s soulmate so we better accept the situation and help him. That’s it.”
Mingi makes everything sound so easy, as he always does. His chill, laid-back, and easygoing nature makes him the most relaxed of all the siblings, and in moments like this, it’s exactly what’s needed.
“The hybrid’s name is yn,” Jungkook says once he realizes he didn’t even say your name.
“Son,” Jisoo says as she opens her eyes. “In between us, we can accept it because we know what she represents for you. But how will the others react when they realize that yn, their possible future queen, is a hybrid, and that the next heir is not of pure blood?”
Hearing his mother say that you’ll probably be the next queen makes him feel weird, but in a good way. The words catch him off guard at first, a mix of surprise and uncertainty flickering through him. But the thought of having you by his side, not just as a partner but as his equal, makes his chest swell with a warmth he didn’t expect. Maybe, just maybe, the idea of you as queen is a future he wouldn’t mind embracing.
“We all know how they will react,” she pauses for a moment. “They will try to kill her. Soulmate or not.”
“I don’t care,” he honestly replies. “I will protect her from everything and anything.”
No matter what people say, he’ll do whatever he can to keep you safe. He’s a king so he has the resources to protect you, and he also hopes that his authority as king might protect you as well.
“Okay,” the matriarch answers. “Then, if you don’t mind, I’d like to meet her.”
A smile appears on her face. It’s not easy, but she’s ready to make an effort for her son. She’ll try to accept this all because you’re his soulmate. However, she needs to meet you first so she can see what kind of person you are.
“Okay,” he smiles. “I’ll arrange that.”
The tension slowly fades away and the family continues the dinner while talking of other things. Jungkook is aware of the fight waiting for him, and he knows it won’t be easy, but you’re worth it.

Sick As A Dog—Chapter 1
Synopsis: You’re a dog walker. When your favorite clients notice you’re not feeling well, they insist on taking care of you.
Chapter: 1/?
Warnings: Sick!fic, lots of hurt/comfort fluff in the beginning, protective Natasha, protective Wanda, maybe things get sexy later? (Who are we kidding, they absolutely will. Mommy Wanda, Daddy Natasha, anyone?)
Tumblr media
Your alarm clock was blaring when you woke up. You blinked slowly, groggily, the last tendrils of sleep refusing to abate. You glanced at the time and swore softly, realizing you’d overslept.
As soon as you were upright, a searing pain shot through your head. You winced, reaching for a glass of water. You took a few gulps, registering more pain as you swallowed. A sore throat.
“Oh no,” you groaned, scrubbing a tired hand over your face. You’d gone to bed early last night, hoping to curtail the symptoms you’d been stubbornly ignoring for the past few days. Clearly that strategy hadn’t worked. Now you’d have to pay the price.
You dragged yourself upright, wandering into the kitchen to make a quick cup of coffee. Yelena was sitting at the island, scrolling on her laptop.
“I’m late!” Your voice was hoarse, raspy. “Why didn’t you wake me up?”
The blonde barely looked up from her inbox. “Why do you sound like the crypt keeper?”
You laughed, but this quickly dissolved into a dry, wheezing cough. Yelena frowned, fixing you with a perturbed look.
“You’re sick,” she said.
You shook your head. “I can’t be sick.”
She rolled her eyes. “You’re a dog walker, not a heart surgeon. You can take the day off.”
You snagged a protein shake from the fridge, choking down a few sips.
Yelena grimaced. “Seriously, go to the doctor.”
“I’ll be fine,” you insisted.
Your roommate muttered something in Russian. “Whatever. Just don’t die ok? I can’t afford this place without your half of the rent.”
You knew her well enough to recognize this blunt directive as her version of affection. Yelena was actually a big softie, once you got past the very rough exterior.
You’d met at a bar playing darts a few years ago, drinking everyone else under the table. By the end of the night, it was settled. Kindred spirits like that only come along every so often.
“If you want the rent money, I have to walk the dogs. See how that works? We can’t all be BitCoin miners or whatever the hell it is you do.”
She gave you the finger. You blew her a kiss and walked out the door. In truth you had no idea how Yelena made her money. It had something to do with finance, maybe crypto? Your eyes glazed over whenever she tried to explain.
The sky was threatening rain when you hopped on your bicycle and began the journey into Manhattan. The clouds opened up and started pouring just as you arrived at your first client’s house.
“Come on, Pepper,” you said, coaxing the ornery Pomeranian into her rain gear. “Let’s get this over with.”
By midday your symptoms had worsened. The dull ache that started in your chest slowly spread to your shoulders and back. The wet chill of the day seeped into your bones as you stomped up and down the streets of the city, soaking your rain coat, slicking your hair to your forehead.
Most of the time, you loved your job. Being outside, running around with dogs. But today was proving to be brutal. By the time you finished your last walk, you could barely see straight. You unclipped Oscar’s lead in the entryway of the massive brownstone, shutting the front door and leaning against it heavily.
The Rottie mix bounded into the living room, straight to his toy box, and brought you the squeaky plush raccoon—his favorite—depositing it at your feet like an offering. When you didn’t pick it up immediately, he nudged it closer with his nose and whined.
Despite the pain radiating through your body, you chuckled, shaking your head. “Not right now, bud.” Your voice was low, hoarse. His big square head tilted to the side in confusion.
You grabbed a towel from the hall closet, then knelt beside Oscar, removing his raincoat and wiping the mud off his paw pads. He waited patiently, tongue lolling out the side of his mouth.
“There ya go,” you said, dismissing him with a weary pat. You groaned, pushing yourself off the floor. Just that simple action required almost all your strength. Your head felt like it was full of concrete.
Your phone vibrated in your pocket. You checked the message blearily, realizing there were several of them. All from Yelena.
10:20am
Text me when you finish your route.
11:42am
And take the train home, you can’t bike in this weather.
2:15pm
Are you alive?
3:30pm
Hello????
You were about to reply when Oscar barked impatiently. He had trotted into the kitchen and was waiting to be fed.
You sighed, slipping your phone back into your pocket. You just had to finish up here, then you could head home and collapse into your bed. Take the weekend to recover. This was the mantra you’d been repeating to yourself all day. Now you were in the final stretch, you could see the light at the end of the tunnel.
But you felt so achy. And your mind kept wandering, losing track of what you were doing. You glanced into the living room longingly. What if you just laid down on the sofa for 10 minutes? Surely Wanda and Nat wouldn’t mind.
They were your favorite clients, after all. Practically family, considering Yelena was Nat’s sister. You had attended dinners and parties in their home before. Maybe it would be totally acceptable to crash out on their expensive, luxurious sofa…
A roll of thunder overhead snapped you back to reality.
“Feed the dog,” you sighed, worried your foggy brain would forget if you didn’t say it out loud.
You slipped off your muddy boots, then padded down the hallway. You made it to the kitchen feeling out of breath. Leaning over to grab Oscar’s food and water bowls, the world suddenly tilted sideways.
“Whoa,” you muttered, gripping the edge of the kitchen counter.
Oscar barked once, twice.
“It’s okay,” you said, trying to soothe him even as your vision swam. He turned and bounded out of the room.
You closed your eyes, then reached for the bowls again. This time you managed to set them on the counter. Mission half-way accomplished. Slowly you breathed in, willing the room to stop spinning.
The unexpected sound of footsteps on the staircase roused you from your stupor. You heard Wanda saying your name, a fact that would have startled you under normal circumstances. After all, the house had been empty when you arrived. But all your senses were dulled.
“Is that you?” She called. “I’m glad I caught you, there’s leftovers in the fridge and Nat wanted me to make sure you took them home.”
She was walking down the hall, Oscar trailing behind, and you dimly realized you should say something. But before you could form a coherent sentence, she paused.
“Sweetheart?” Her voice was different now—uncertain, confused.
“Yeah, it’s me,” you called, trying to sound normal, trying to muster the strength to stand upright as you leaned heavily on the counter for support. “In here.”
Wanda rounded the corner, carefully scanning the kitchen. When she finally saw you hunched by the sink, she stilled.
“Hey, Wanda,” you said with a little wave. You tried to smile. “Sorry, I was just…”
You trailed off, losing the plot mid-sentence. Even at full strength, you would have found the sight of the other woman distracting. But given the state you were in, you stood practically no chance. She was wearing a loose denim shirt with both sleeves rolled up to the elbow. Her hair was pinned back, and she had a pair of reading glasses perched on her head. You realized you were staring and closed your mouth, looking away as an intense shiver wracked your body. Wanda’s eyes narrowed. You gestured weakly to the dog bowls on the counter in front of you.
“Just about to feed Oscar,” you finished, hoping you didn’t sound as miserable as you felt.
Wanda watched as you struggled to push yourself upright. You took a few unsteady steps toward the pantry where they kept the dog food, then swayed like you might fall. The other woman stepped toward you instantly, catching you around the waist. She could feel how hot you were through your shirt.
“Let me do that,” she said. “You sit down, before you fall down.”
You opened your mouth to protest, but she was gone before you could get the words out. You sank onto the nearby barstool, legs feeling like jello.
As soon as you were down, you worried you wouldn’t be able to get back up. It felt so good to be off your feet.
When Wanda reappeared, she was still looking at you with the same expression as before—suspicion edging toward concern. But she knew you well enough to guess that outright fussing would be met with resistance. You were private. And you had a stubbornly independent streak. She’d have to play this one carefully to avoid scaring you off.
“Long day?” She asked.
“I’m fine,” you said mechanically. “Just tired.”
She set Oscar’s bowls on the floor, then fixed you with a glare.
“You don’t look fine.”
“Well, I am,” you argued. “Perfectly fine.”
That earned you a small smile. She shook her head, took a deep breath like you were trying her last shred of patience.
“Prove it,” she said.
You scrunched your face up in confusion. Wanda tried very hard not to find this adorable.
“If you’re fine, prove it,” she elaborated, speaking slowly so your fuzzy brain could follow along.
“How?” You whined, rolling your eyes.
“A minute ago you it seemed like you couldn’t even pick up Oscar’s food bowls,” she shrugged. “So, show me something that a ‘perfectly fine’ person could do.”
“Or what?” You said, trying to buy yourself some time.
She sauntered toward you. “You’re not leaving this house,” she said slowly, enunciating each word. “Until I’m satisfied that you’re okay.”
A ripple of defiance propelled you off the barstool. As soon as you were standing, black dots gathered at the corners of your vision. You ignored these, taking a step forward. Then another. And another. You were almost in the hallway. It would have been a very impressive exit if you had managed to stay upright.
From faraway you heard Wanda cry out, her voice muted by the fuzzy ringing in your ears. The next thing you knew, you were on your back, looking up at the kitchen skylights.
Wanda dropped to her knees beside you. She called your name, brushing your hair back and feeling your forehead. Your cheeks were flushed, eyes glassy.
“See,” you said, slurring slightly. “Perfectly fine.”
She didn’t laugh.
“You have a fever,” she said, words clipped. “How long have you felt like this?”
You shrugged. “Few days.”
“Days,” Wanda repeated faintly, trying to quell her outrage. Something about the flash of anger in her voice made you recoil.
“Don’t be mad,” you said, feeling pathetic.
She softened instantly, schooling her face into something gentle.
“I’m not mad, milaya,” she rasped. “Just worried.”
You opened your mouth to protest, to say there was no reason to be worried, just as another violent shiver wracked your body. Your teeth chattered.
“You and Nat,” she murmured, tracing her thumb across your cheek. “Refusing to admit you’re not invincible.”
You looked away. With sudden horror, you realized you were close to tears. Thankfully, Oscar reappeared in the room just then. He ran to your side, licking your face and furiously wagging his tail.
“Honey, I’m home!” A familiar voice called from the entryway.
“Speak of the devil,” Wanda breathed, and you could see the relief in her eyes. Now that they outnumbered you, maybe you’d listen to reason.
“Hey, did Yelena call you? She left me a weird voicemail,” Natasha said. There was a soft clatter as she placed her keys in the ceramic bowl by the door. “She’s worried about our little wolf -“
“In here, Nat,” Wanda said impatiently. “Need your help.”
Little wolf? Before you had time to question it, Natasha appeared, looking devastating as always in a fitted suit. She had clearly come straight from the office. Her smile vanished as she entered the kitchen.
“What happened?” She demanded, skidding across the tile. “Are you okay?”
“No,” Wanda said, just as you said “Yes.”
Natasha looked between the two of you, confused.
“She fainted,” Wanda explained, tucking your hair behind your ear.
“I didn’t faint,” you grumbled, insulted by the prissy word. “Just got dizzy.”
Wanda and Natasha ignored you.
“Should we take her to urgent care?”
You groaned, horrified by that idea. You rolled sideways, trying to push yourself up off the floor. Natasha laid a hand on your chest. When you kept struggling, she reached over and pulled you firmly into her lap, anchoring you in place.
“Stay,” she said, her voice a stern rumble.
Natasha had a soft spot for you. Wanda had teased her about it at first. But as you became a more regular fixture in their lives, Wanda found herself feeling the same way—terribly fond, overly protective, almost possessive. And seeing you like this had them both in overdrive.
Natasha pressed the back of her hand to your forehead, eyes widening in alarm. “You’re burning up.”
“I’m fine,” you repeated, voice cracking with exhaustion. “Just tired. Need to sleep it off.”
Wanda stilled, tilting her head to one side.
“I…agree,” she said, giving Natasha a significant look.
You frowned, trying to follow the unspoken conversation they seemed to be having above you.
There was a loud clap of thunder outside. The noise seemed to settle things for Nat. She nodded, acting like a gavel had been struck, a decision reached.
“You hear that?” Natasha said. “Bad storm. Why don’t you stay for dinner? Once you’ve had a hot bath and a home-cooked meal, we’ll send you on your way. Deal?”
“You don’t have to do all that,” you objected, even as you curled slightly closer to Natasha, seeking her body heat. She ran an absent hand over your back, rubbing big soothing circles.
It was Wanda who spoke next. “We want to.”
You looked back and forth between their faces then heaved a sigh, suddenly too tired to argue anymore.
“Okay,” you said, voice small.
Wanda smiled, victorious. “I’m making stew! Something hearty, restorative. There will be potatoes and broth and—”
“Ok, babushka,” Natasha teased. “Your old country is showing.”
Wanda scowled, then stuck her tongue out, turning toward the cabinet to retrieve several pots and pans. The next second, Nat was helping you to your feet. She watched you carefully, troubled by how unsteady you seemed.
“Do you mind if I just…?”
She didn’t wait for an answer before scooping you into her strong arms. “Hey!” You cried, surprised. But a few seconds later you relaxed against her, eyes slipping closed as she carried you down the hall, then turned and started climbing the stairs.
“When’s the last time you ate anything?” She murmured against your hair.
You shrugged.
Her eyes narrowed. “Bad girl.”
The words made your breath catch. You buried your face in her shoulder, trying to hide flushed cheeks that had nothing to do with your fever.
Get it together, perv. Natasha and Wanda were trying to do something nice for you. Were they absurdly hot? Sure. Had you entertained an idle daydream or two about what it might be like to kiss them both? Of course. But that was no excuse for reacting like a horny teenager.
Natasha opened the door to one of the large bedrooms and set you down gently beside the bed. You thought she might leave, but then she walked into an en-suite bathroom and you heard the sound of running water.
“There are fresh towels and robes in here,” she called. “Can you get undressed or do you need help?”
You swallowed around a sudden lump in your throat. “I’m okay, thanks.”
She reappeared, smiling softly. “Do you mind if I stay? I don’t want to leave you alone. In case you pass out again, or slip, or…”
You gave her a tired smile. “You faint one lousy time and suddenly nobody trusts you.”
Natasha snorted, then turned and faced the wall for propriety’s sake. With shaky hands you began unbuttoning your pants.
“Yelena called me,” Nat said after a few moments. “She’s worried about you.”
You sighed. “Seems like there’s a lot of that going around today.”
Although you couldn’t see her face, you could hear the frown in her voice. “We care about you,” she said. “Is that so bad?”
You pulled your shirt over your head with a small grunt of pain. Natasha glanced back instinctively, catching a glimpse of your exposed stomach and toned abs, the low-cut sports bra showing off your curves. She sucked in a breath, feeling that inconvenient flutter again. It would help if you weren’t so pretty, she thought. Then she quickly turned around before you saw her peeking.
“Sorry,” you said, tossing the shirt on the floor. “I’m not very good at this.”
Natasha stilled, hearing the emotion in your voice. “At what?”
You gestured vaguely at the space between you.
“Making people worry,” you sighed. Again, tears suddenly pricked the corners of your eyes. It was a testament to how rundown you were, all these emotions roiling so close to the surface. Natasha heard the way your breathing changed, became ragged.
She said your name so softly it made your chest ache.
“Can I turn around?” She asked.
You crossed your arms, feeling exposed in just your bra and boxers. But you gave her permission anyway. You trusted her.
“Sorry,” you said, hitching on the word. “Just makes me feel like…a burden, an inconvenience.”
Natasha stepped toward you, enveloping you in a warm hug. “You don’t have anything to apologize for, detka,” she murmured. “And you could never be a burden to us. It’s okay to let people take care of you when you don’t feel good.”
You sagged against her. “Kay.”
You might have let her go on holding you all night. But then your stomach growled, and she chuckled.
“Come on,” she said, lips quirking up in a gentle smile. “Don’t want the water to get cold.”

As you may know, Chapter 2 of Danganronpa: Despair Time has finally concluded, after a long 3 years since the end of Chapter 1. Thank you to the staff members who made this possible and thank you to everyone who has stuck with me during this long journey! I was very nervous about a lot of things, so I hope that chapter 2 has been received well.
This is unfortunately where I have to talk about some bad news. DRDT is going on hiatus. In fact, it will probably be quite some time before I even begin work on chapter 3. I know this is probably disappointing news for many, I am terribly sorry. I will talk about some of the reasons behind why.
I felt as if there was a lot of mixed response to this chapter. Please know that I take your complaints seriously, I want to produce a work that can be enjoyed by everyone. In truth, I have no experience or education in writing or producing, and I do not even consider myself a "writer" or "producer." This is the first story I have attempted to write. I hope you can acknowledge that it is a long learning experience for me, and be lenient with the amateurish first work that is full of flaws. Even though DRDT has become a popular Fangan, it doesn't mean that in turn I have become an experienced creator. Because of my lack of experience, I have little confidence as a creator. When fans are dissatisfied with something that happened recently in DRDT, I worry about how they will respond to future episodes of DRDT. It is difficult to maintain faith in the decisions I make and I keep second-guessing myself, worrying about how something will be received. Working on chapter 3 in this state is too difficult.
I am also burnt out from working on DT. Even though it was once possible for me to draw multiple sprites in one day, now it is a struggle to even make a single sprite of a small face modification. Nearing the end it was difficult and painful to draw such things like the execution or closing argument. So it will probably be a while before I am even capable of writing or drawing for the DT main story again.
TL;DR: I don't foresee myself even beginning to work on DT Ch3 (including bonus episodes) for a very long time. I apologize for delivering this disappointing news. With this in mind, I will be working on and posting things that are not DT CH3. Some of this will relate to DRDT and some of it will not. I ask for your patience as I continue to create and gain experience as a creator. I hope that you can support these works too.
Thank you again to all those who have supported me and enjoyed my work. Please support the amazing staff who worked on DT as well, I am eternally grateful for their work. If my work was able to inspire you or move you or bring you enjoyment even a little, I would be happy.

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
𐙚 • 𝑃𝑖𝑙𝑒 1
Your future partner is someone who brings a sense of hope, renewal, and inspiration into your life. They're likely to come into your world when you're healing or stepping into a more authentic version of yourself. This person carries a calming presence and seems to ignite a quiet optimism in you, as if things are finally aligning after a period of uncertainty or difficulty. They're drawn to your inner light and may even reflect that light back at you, encouraging personal growth and emotional clarity.
They likely avoid unnecessary conflict and prefer peace over chaos. Their presence suggests a breath of fresh air in your romantic experiences—someone who isn't here to play games or stir up drama. Past relationship patterns or internal struggles that once caused you stress begin to settle in their presence. This is someone who chooses communication over avoidance and is mature enough to let go of power struggles, making them emotionally supportive and level-headed.
Initially, there might be a hesitancy or emotional block on your end, perhaps due to past heartbreak or a fear of making the wrong choice again. But this person’s clear intentions and decisive nature will help you see things more clearly. Their actions will speak loudly, and they’ll show you that love doesn't have to come with confusion. You'll begin to trust yourself more around them, and that clarity will make it easier for you to open up.
They are intelligent, assertive, and driven—likely someone who charges forward when they know what they want. They might have a bold personality or a quick wit, and they’re not afraid to speak the truth. This person values honesty and progress, and once they decide to pursue you, they’ll do so with purpose. The connection may progress quickly once it starts, carried by strong communication and mutual respect. This person enters your life like a gust of wind—clearing the fog and pushing both of you toward something meaningful and transformative.
𐙚 • 𝑃𝑖𝑙𝑒 2
Your future partner is likely someone who has recently come out of a period of isolation or deep introspection. They may have gone through a transformative experience that forced them to confront their inner world and now they’re ready to step back into life, more self-aware and open. This person may have previously struggled with indecision or being stuck in their ways but is now making an intentional effort to take control of their life and act with purpose.
They are charismatic, skilled, and driven—someone who knows how to use the tools at their disposal to create opportunities and make things happen. There’s a sense of passionate energy around them, like they’re on the verge of starting something exciting, whether it’s a creative pursuit, a new project, or even a fresh chapter in life. This person will bring a spark into your world, not just emotionally but also through shared experiences and dynamic energy.
There’s also a feeling of wholeness and completion surrounding this future connection. This person may have traveled a long personal journey to get where they are, and now they’re ready to share their life with someone who can match their energy and growth. Your relationship with them will likely feel like the closing of an old chapter and the beginning of a new, meaningful one—with potential for long-term harmony, success, and mutual expansion.
𐙚 • 𝑃𝑖𝑙𝑒 3
Your future partner may initially come across as someone who has struggled with trust, communication, or immaturity in the past. They might have gone through a period of confusion, overthinking, or being unsure about their direction in life. This could stem from lessons they had to learn the hard way—perhaps from saying too much, too little, or not knowing how to navigate emotional conversations. When you meet them, they might still be healing from past experiences that shaped their perspective on love and connection.
They carry a deep emotional scar—perhaps from heartbreak or betrayal—that has forced them to confront their own vulnerabilities. This pain, while still present, has molded them into someone more self-aware and introspective. They're not looking for surface-level affection. Instead, they’re seeking something that brings balance, truth, and fairness into their life. They're serious about love and are ready to approach it with a sense of responsibility and integrity.
When they come into your life, the connection will feel undeniably strong. It’s not just romantic but deeply soulful, something that aligns with your values and your heart. There’s a feeling of choice and commitment between you both, one where mutual respect and emotional honesty play a big role. This person won’t shy away from showing you how much they care or from stepping into something meaningful with you.
They’re also generous—not just with time or resources, but with emotional effort and energy. This person values equality in relationships and wants to give just as much as they receive. They’re someone who believes love is a two-way street, and they’ll make sure you feel valued and supported. Their journey hasn't been easy, but it’s made them someone capable of deep, sincere love—ready to build something real with you.

Chapter 1: The Journey Begins
{Page 2}
Tumblr media
“Hey! Lea-Leave her alone!” Frisk’s voice shouted with a clear stutter, despite the exhaustion in their voice as it rang out through the cave and bounced off the walls. Lena and Morgan’s heads whipped around in their direction, surprise flashing in their eyes as they saw Frisk standing at the entrance, fists clenched.
Iris looked up, hope flaring in her wide, frightened eyes. “Frisk…” She murmured as if she could hardly believe Frisk was there. Frisk took a step forward, stopping in their tracks the moment Lena and Morgan stepped closer to the pit only a few feet away. “The hero has arrived,” Lena sneered, letting go of Iris and stepping towards Frisk. “What are you going to do, Frisk? Save your little friend here? Don’t make me laugh.” “This isn’t a game, Lena. Ju-just let her go,” Frisk stuttered out a demand, fear gnawing at them as Lena let out an almost sinister laugh in response. Frisk’s eyes locked onto Iris’, then back to Lena as she stepped towards them again. Lena flashed a grin, one that Frisk barely took notice of before she was suddenly lunging at them, shoving them back with surprising force. Frisk barely managed to stay on their feet, nearly tripping on a rock before regaining their footing. “I’m not going to let you hurt her!” Frisk shouted with more confidence now, kicking off from the ground to spring forward and grasp Iris by the arm and attempt to yank her out of Morgan’s hand, yet the other wasn’t letting off without a fight. The cave filled with the echoes of the scuffing of shoes, the clear clap of contact as someone was slapped, and another was shoved directly onto the cracked stone floor of the cave. Morgan swung on Frisk, who was jabbed right in the nose, followed by a cry of pain. Lena moved to grab Iris, but she was already fleeing the scene. Iris scurried to the cave entrance like a frightened animal, hands grasped in the fabric of her skirt to keep her from tripping on it as she ran from the fight taking place between Frisk and the bullies. Yet Frisk hadn’t followed behind, Lena’s eyes flickered to the edge of the pit and then back to Frisk. A cruel smile twisted on her lips, and then with a swift brutal motion, she slammed into Frisk’s side, catching them off balance. Frisk’s eyes widened in shock as they felt the ground disappear from beneath their feet.
“Frisk!!” Iris’ scream echoed through the cave, all three pairs of eyes watching that moment as Frisk reached out desperately, with nothing to grab, and plummeted into the darkness.
Morgan and Lena didn’t stick around, quickly turning on their heels and exiting the cave as if they hadn’t been there and unknowingly took someone's life. Iris ran back in, collapsing to her knees the moment she reached the hole’s edge, heart pounding in her chest. “Frisk…” Her voice was barely a whisper, choked by the tears that streamed down her face.“Please… someone… help…” Iris’ voice broke as she sobbed, her shoulders shaking as she leaned forward, her head nearly to her knees, her hair sprawled out around her with broken cries.

next phase; 000.
[a pick-a-pile about what's coming, what's gone, and other things about the next chapter]. ☆*: .。. o(🪷
personally guys i'm gonna be so honest i do not fw this reading but i hope you guys enjoy it!!!
pile 1; cute store. pile 2; our beautiful queen. pile 3; curly cartoon.
pile 1.
aaaaah hi my lovess! i think a lot of u will be going into a peaceful stage. things may become more clear for you and you'll have a bit of an easier journey w your anxiety. a lot of you seem like you're chasing something in this moment, and you feel like it's progressively getting farther away, therefore getting worse. you don't have enough energy to keep on running, and you feel like you're going to collapse soon. you feel very alone.
you're never alone, sweetheart. everrrr. you guys have such...deep souls, deep hearts, so even when you feel utterly isolated? you're not. your guides are watching over you, your soulmates, whatever you believe in--it's there. this is the death of the last phase; and it's okay to mourn, babylove, but this is a new beginning, one that many of you have wanted to start. a factory reset, if you will. you'll have enough space to truly be free and be authentic without feeling like you're boxed into something, y'know? a HOT amount of change is coming, good change. you guys are gonna experience some travel/movement, new places, new people. you may feel a bit awkward at first, like a baby animal, stumbling around and trying to figure out its surroundings, but you'll get the hang of it quickly.
your strength may make you feel dejected, and like you push people away, but this is not the case. you by yourself, are an angel, wielding a sword; but this will NEVERRR make you alone. it takes time to find people like you, because you're truly unique. eat some good food. watch a nice tv show. cuddle with a pet. hug yourself. delete social media clutter. everything you wanted in the next phase is coming. but you gotta keep your head up and keep trusting.
confirmations: statues. restaurants. 90s. belts. shoulders. wings. bird chirps. frogs. the ocean. temporary tattoos. fruit. basquiat. movies.
☆*: .。. o(🪷
pile 2.
ooooh y'all are gonna have a glow-up!!!! stepping into that energy of taking what you want. a lot of you tend to struggle with your voice, and in this next phase of your life, you're going to be learning how to leave that shell of yours behind. getting into that anora energy (obv not like. anora herself, but think about how she holds herself, if you've seen the movie!). you guys are going to growww in confidence. smiling a lot, spending time with people. you may deal with some aggressive people but you're very levelheaded, so it won't be a big problem for you. you demand RESPECTTT and people see that, and it def attracts the right kind of people to you. a lot of you are going to be more comfortable in your own skin, spending time with yourself.
this is a developing phase. things will be building up, a lot of things THEMSELVES may not necessarily be happening, but this phase is necessary to progress your path forwards. rest is crucial; a lot of you have fuckass sleep schedules and poor eating habits that you should work on (consistency within both of those spheres is KEYYY!!! you guys can be imbalanced at times). a lot of you will be more firm in your boundaries, specifically for yourself. a lot of the time you allowed yourself to be disrespected by people just because they were close to you, but that's becoming a big NOPEEE. so proud. a lot of you will be spending time in places that move you forwards; thinking of the gym, library, college. anything that lets you progress.
a lot of you may be feeling some negative emotions right now so i'd definitely be wary of finding a way to dispose of these feelings now so they don't follow after you into this phase. there's some conflicts you guys might need to sort out, particularly with friends and family. it can be exhausting, feeling like you always have to solve things; this is a reminder that leaving a situation that is constantly making you anxious or upset does not mean giving up. it means saving yourself.
confirmations: ufc. football. sports. autumn. childhood tv shows. chunky jewelry. 2014. light pink lip gloss. converse. tabby kitten.
☆*: .。. o(🪷
pile 3.
a lot of you are gonna be having big FUNN during this phase. many are excited for summer. this won't be as heavy as the last two piles, so that leads me to think that you may have had a rough period the last phase of your life. many of you will be genuinely feeling new emotions and seeing new parts of your life and you'll feel so happy, like you're floating. many will have a fear this won't last. my advice to you; happiness, is a permanent thing. sometimes, we feel bad things, but happiness itself never goes away. it is simply clouded over. a lot of you will be working on certain areas of your life; particularly creative ones. music, dancing, art, poetry--all of that might resonate, babycakes.
you're really going to be deeeeep in your energy. a lot of you have experienced a rebirth before and this'll make you feel like you're finally back to normal again. people are really gonna be happy for you, pile 3. i think some of you had a really rough winter, and it shows, the glow you have right now. it shows. people will see that you're easing up a bit, and while many of you are still recovering from the bad parts, you're really going to bloom. a lot of you may have experienced bad physical symptoms, like pain, anxiety tics, etc. and that'll ease up for a lot of you. the clouds will disappear.
this is also a reminder to ease up, a bit. a lot of you guys are TERRIFIED of a new phase, new people, etc. coming into your life, but not all new things are bad. you gotta get rid of the past to live in the present. a lot of you don't wanna trust again but really, that's the only way you're going to move forward. take a deep breath, take a leap of faith. not everyone is here to hurt you. of course, there are some people out there who did. but that doesn't mean that there aren't souls who wanna be your friend, who wanna be gentle with you. you guys have a paralyzing fear of experiencing something from the past again; it'll be okay, honey. it'll be okay.
confirmations: limerence by yves tumor. platform shoes. soda cans. lily flowers. small towns. religious iconography. new nails. choppy bangs. losing makeup. flags.

Chapter One - Your Angel Eye
The day you’re born, your left eye holds the complexion of an angel.
Sparkling white, the gasps that echo around the bed of your mother are unanimous. It’s an eye that no one has ever seen before. The single eye glows in the dim lit room, ethereal and almost magical. Your mother’s nursing maid tells your mother it’s a miracle, a sign of something great. Says it’s like an angel was born that day.
Or, at least, it would’ve been had you not been born blind in your right eye.
Still white, but murky and fogged, your right eye is glaringly different from your left.
The blessing you’d been born with is instantly cursed.
And you’ve felt that curse every day since.
-
Cabaji’s grip is tight as he yanks you along. Pinching and painful, but you bear it all with no more than a wince knowing that worse will be waiting for you should you try and argue.
At least, it’s your intention not to make a fuss. But his pace is too quick for you and you don’t have the time to gather your bearings before your hip is digging into the edge of a table. It causes you to trip, losing your footing. Cabaji lets go of you in response, your world tilting as the realization that you’re going to fall dawns on you. A flash of Cabaji’s blue and white scarf flitters past your vision and you’ve no doubt that the man has slithered away before your fall could bring attention to him.
Letting out a short yelp, you expect to feel your knees dig into the hardwood of the bar floor, only you never hit the ground.
Blinking, you glance back, only then registering the hands on your waist as you meet a pair of dark-brown kind eyes staring right back at you. The man who’d caught you has the brightest smile on his face, lips stretched wide and teeth glinting in the dim light of the bar. You blink at him, taking in the straw hat on his head as you slowly push yourself to your feet, his hands pulling back in response.
“A-Are you okay?”
You hadn’t even noticed the other boy sitting with him. His voice comes out in a timid squeak of concern, eyes assessing you behind big, round glasses.
“Oh. Y-Yeah,” you mumble, voice quiet, before turning back to the boy with the straw hat who’d caught your fall. He’s still staring up at you with those eyes and beaming smile. “Th-Thank you,” you shortly bow, twisting your fingers in your grasp nervously.
You’re about to take a step back and turn around when the boy calls out;
“What’s with the eye-patch?”
His question comes out blunt, asked in a friendly, curious town as he glances up at you. It gives you pause, body tensing as you frown down at him.
“Luffy!” His timid friend exclaims, lips parting bafflement. His eyes shift frantically from you to his friend and back, as if unsure of how you’ll respond. You don’t really respond in anyway, per say, just gape wide-mouthed down at the pair, bewildered.
Luffy just continues to grin up at you. “It’s cool!” He cheers, care-free and earnest. “Are you a pirate?”
You’ve no idea how to respond and you’re pressingly aware that the longer you take, the more angry Cabaji will be. You’re sure to already receive an ear-full, if not worse, after being stupid enough to trip over your own feet. You don’t even want to think about what will happen the more you make him wait.
“No?” Luffy pauses, for the first time his smile faltering. It’s only for a second before it returns. “Because I—”
You don’t stick around to listen.
Your body reacts on impulse and before you even realize it you’re spinning around and racing out of the bar before Luffy can finish his sentence. You don’t dare glance back to see his reaction and you hope the strange boy won’t do something as silly as try and follow you.
You’ve just made it into the turn of the alley when your arm is caught by someone. At first, you fear it’s Luffy, but when your head snaps round to look, you’re faced with the steaming expression of Cabaji staring back at you, eyes blazing.
“Does stealth mean nothing to you, you idiot?” He hisses, towering over you by the sheer height of him as you lean back, avoiding his eyes. “It’s bad enough you tripped on your own two feet, but then you went and talked to someone?”
Face twisting at the pinching grip on your arm, you bite your lip. “I-I just thanked him for catching me,” you whisper, trying to hide the shrill of pain from your voice. “I didn’t tell him anything!”
Shoving you back by the arm, Cabaji huffs; “you better of not. We can’t go back to Buggy empty-handed or with the marines after us. He’ll want his map back.”
Swallowing thickly, you hug your now free arm. You avoid Cabaji’s eye as he stares down at you, choosing to focus on your feet.
“Better not screw this up, Y/N. You remember what happened last time you disappointed Buggy, right?”
Shuddering at the memory, you quickly nod. “I won’t mess up again,” you assure, finally meeting his eyes as you nod frantically. “I promise.”
Cabaji just quirks a brow; “we’ll see.”
-
While you and Cabaji hadn’t been able to return the map to Buggy directly, you hadn’t gone back empty-handed. Of course, Cabaji was the one who got to deliver the good news while you were directed to go to your small tent and wait until Buggy came for you.
After facing a sneer or two from passing members of the crew, you’d finally made it to your tent. With a huff, you fall back onto the small cot sat in the middle of the tent, pulling your knees up to your chest as you let your head fall. You hated when you were sent on missions; it didn’t matter who Buggy paired you up with, they were awful. No one on the crew liked you and so they found it fun to torment you as much as they could. It was, however, no doubt that Cabaji was one of the worst.
The twisted acrobatic found a particular joy in causing you pain and fear.
Letting your eyes fall shut, you try to savour the moment of peace before it’s inevitably taken away. It’s a wonder to you, though, why the second your eyes fall shut you envision those dark-brown kind eyes from earlier that day. Luffy, his friend had called him. The boy with the beaming smile and a straw hat. Such a small moment and yet, it’s the first thing your brain thinks of the moment you’re given the reprieve to.
Was it because he’d caught you? Was it because he’d been kind, if not a little strange? You’re not sure, and it doesn’t matter anyways. Luffy, his friend and two others, an orange-haired girl and green-haired swordsman had stolen the map from the marines and therefore, were now targets of Buggy’s. There was only one way that ended.
“Long day then, my Angel Eye?”
You start at the voice, eyes snapping open as you suddenly find Buggy in front of you, grinning down at you with that manic smile of his. You hadn’t even heard him come in, not his footsteps or the flap of your tent… You can feel your heart start to race at the sight of him and you’re trying to ignore the tremble of your body as you meet his eyes.
“C-Captain,” you greet, biting your lip.
He sighs, as if annoyed by your stuttering. “Come now, sweetie. Surely, we’re beyond that pointless stuttering of yours.”
Frowning, you glance at your feet. “Sorry.”
Shaking his head, Buggy just rolls his eyes. “Look at me.”
Instantly, snapping your gaze upwards, you meet his waiting gaze.
He grins wide. “Take off that eyepatch,” he orders sharply. “You know I don’t like you hiding.”
You want to argue. You want to say no. But you know you’ll only pay if you do, so, with just a second of hesitation, you reach up with nimble fingers to pull off the black eyepatch around your eye. Within seconds, Buggy is right in front of your face, bright red-nose touching your own as he stares deeply in your right eye.
His grin is not at all warming and enjoyable as Luffy’s had been. Instead, as he stares down at you, all you want to do is crawl in a hole and hide.
“Ah, I never get tired of seeing it.” He laughs, voice pitching. “So glaringly ugly compared to the beauty of your left eye.”
Swallowing thickly, you bite back the hurt. Buggy has said much worse things about you after all.
“Captain,” you find the courage to speak, figuring he’s probably the happiest he’ll be with you in that current moment. “Are you going after the map?”
Smile falling, Buggy leans back. “Duh,” he rolls his eyes. “It’s my map.”
Swallowing thickly, you try to ignore the pounding of your heart as you ask the next question. “And… the boy—the people who has your map?”
Buggy’s face twists, as if confused by your question. “I’ll kill them,” he shrugs, like it’s the obvious answer. “Like I always do.”
Your chest tightens. You don’t know why.
Standing to his full height, Buggy places his hands on hips.
“Come on then,” he grins down at you, “it’s time to greet the townsfolk.”
-
The day Buggy had found Orange Town was the day you realized you were never going to escape his crew.
You’d watched as he and his crew decimated the town, destroying the houses and shops and leaving nothing in their wake. They’d done it all with smiles and laughs, ignoring the screams and cries of the townspeople as they begged him not to destroy their livelihoods.
It had taken Buggy all of ten minutes to realize you were just standing there, frozen in place. His blinded rage had been terrifying, racing towards you as he screamed and cursed at you for standing there like an idiot.
“If you don’t start moving,” he’d hissed, “I’ll kill them all.”
Letting out a sob, you’d shaken your head in a pathetic attempt at refusal.
“Hah!” Buggy had laughed before you could respond, throwing his head back in jest. “I’m going to kill them regardless.”
“No,” you’d argued, stunning him. The word had left your lips beyond your control, blinded by your desperation. “Please, don’t.”
Realistically, it had been nothing more than a pathetic plea. Buggy and the crew wouldn’t stop until he was satisfied and you asking him definitely wasn’t going to change that.
A moment of tense and uncomfortable silence had followed. The entire island had seemingly fallen silent, the rage of the crew halted and the cries of the townsfolk paused at your small, pathetic plea. You’d watched firsthand the glint that had shifted in Buggy’s eyes as he stared you down.
In seconds, he’d grabbed a handful of your hair and begun yanking you towards the line of townspeople the crew had cornered. As you tried to pull his grip off of you, feet kicking up the dust of the ground beneath you, the townspeople started whimpering and cowering at Buggy’s approach.
Then, you found yourself forced to your knees in front of them.
Their wide, terrified eyes stare back at you. Women clutching their children who are crying, the men trying to protect them. At the front sits the mayor, eyes afraid but shoulders squared in a last attempt of defiance.
“My faithful fans,” Buggy calls out, gesturing to the townspeople who flinched back at him. “I’d like to introduce you to my most precious treasure, Y/N! Do any of you want to venture and guess what makes her so precious?”
Head bowing, your fingers dig into the ground beneath you, cutting through your skin as silence echoes.
When Buggy doesn’t receive a response, he lets out a growl and suddenly, his hands are on you. Without an ounce of gentleness, he rips the eyepatch off of your face, nails scratching against your cheek.
Instantly, there’s an echo of gasps from the townspeople.
“Ugly, isn’t it?” Buggy laughs, taking your chin in his grasp and forcing your head up, presenting you to the crowd. The action strains your neck but Buggy only pulls harder. He cruelly pets your cheek, frowning down at you as if feeling pity for your sorry state. “Not only does it take away the beauty of her other eye but she’s blind too! Hah! A beautiful freak. And a disobedient one at that.”
His eyes shift to you once more, narrowing his gaze as he tightens his grip.
You let out a cry in response, jerking in his grasp but you can’t twist yourself out of it.
“Why shouldn’t I just kill them all?” He asks you, using his free hand to gesture at the townspeople. “Why should they get to live?”
The cries and gasps of fear in response to Buggy’s words pierce your heart. You hear the whispers of them all, some begging for mercy, others trying to console and soothe; you don’t know if it’s for others or themselves. It’s heartbreaking; innocent people who’d been forced to bow and submit to a crazed man’s will.
Focusing on Buggy’s waiting gaze, you swallow thickly.
“B-Because,” you gasp, trying to ignore the ache of his grip. “Who… Who would watch your show?”
An echoed beat of silence follows, before Buggy blinks at you.
You use that as your chance.
“If you kill them, there’ll be no one to watch your g-great performances.”
He lets go of you, pulling back to sweep his gaze across the townspeople as you fall down, exhausted. The hand that had been on you moves to his chin, rubbing thoughtfully as the rest of the crew starts to make their way over.
“I can’t deny you’re right…” He mumbles, nodding to himself. You and the townspeople watch with bated breath, waiting for him to say more.
A minute later, he does. With a loud clap that makes you jump in fright and a maniacal smile returning to his face, Buggy turns to you.
“It’s decided!” He cheers, stepping towards you as you flinch back. “I’ll let them live.”
A breath of relief runs through and you hear the townspeople follow suit.
“But,” Buggy continues and your breath halts. “The cost of their life is on your shoulders, my dear.”
Brows furrowing, you shake your head. “Wh-What?
Buggy crouches in front of you, shoving his face into your own as he laughs. “Everytime any one of them steps out of line, it’ll be you that pays. In whatever way I see fit. That’s the price for their lives.”
Biting your lip, you feel your heart fall to the pit of your stomach. You should’ve known it wouldn’t be that easy. That Buggy wouldn’t let it be that easy.
With strain, you push yourself up, moving so your hands are on your knees rather than crouched over into the ground. You grip your pants tightly, trying to ignore the race of your heart. You can feel the townspeople watching you, unsure, and the sneers of the rest of the crew as they laugh at your situation.
“Okay,” you whisper.
“Hmm?” Buggy taunts, leaning forward as if he hadn’t heard you. “What was that, dear?”
“Okay,” you repeat, louder, meeting his eyes. “As long as you let them live.”
All you receive in response is a laugh, loud and terrifying. With one final glance down at you, Buggy spins on the spot, practically prancing away from you.
The second his eyes are off of you, you sink to the ground.
“M-Miss?”
The voice is quiet, but still you hear it. Turning your head, you find the Mayor crouched down in front of you.
“Thank you.”
You blink back at him, silent. Silent because you don’t have the heart to tell him that there was no point thanking you—you might’ve spared their lives but that didn’t mean they were in any less danger.
You didn’t know how to tell them what a crazed monster Buggy was.
So you just don’t say anything.
-
A cry leaves your lips, knees digging into the hardwood and trying to ignore the violent shake of your body that follows at the sound of laughter.
With sweat beading on your skin and muscles aching in exhaustion, you glance at your feet the second you hear footsteps grow closer.
“Such a shame, Y/N.” Buggy coos down at you mockingly. “You still don’t have the moves perfected.”
Gritting your teeth, you huff; “that’s because you’ve never taught me them!”
A loud snap and radiating sting is what follows your outburst, a cry leaving your lips as you curl into yourself. Clutching your aching cheek, you glance up at Buggy.
“As a member of my crew and a freak of my performance, you should know the moves.” Buggy grunts down at you, shaking his head at you like you’re a petulant child. “Such a shame too. I’m sure our audience was looking forward to the performance too, right?”
At Buggy’s words and the sign held in their direction, a cheer of forced “yes’s” follow, echoing.
Angered at the sight of the chained ‘audience’, you shake your head. “They’d like to be set free.” You hiss, narrowing your eyes up at Buggy.
Buggy’s lips curl into a sneer. You curl back instantly, seeing the crazed look in his eyes.
Taking a step towards you, his hand disconnects from his wrist, moving towards you. “I’m sick and tired of you—“
“Captain! Captain!”
Suddenly Mohji comes running in, the flap of the tent flipping up behind him as he races towards Buggy with a grin.
“What?” Buggy hisses, his detached hand inches from you as he glares at Mohji. “Can’t you see I’m busy?”
“We caught them,” Mohji cheers, pointing behind him. “We’ve got the map!”
-
The instant the mayor speaks up, you fear the worst.
From the back of the crowd, hidden amongst the townspeople and the rest of the crew, you’d been deliberate in avoiding calling attention to yourself. The second the crew had brought in the crate they’d used to capture Luffy and his friends, you’d made it your goal to avoid being seen. You doubted Luffy would even remember you anyways, as you’d all but ran from him.
You feared how Buggy would react too in the slim chance Luffy did recognize you.
So, despite the discomfort you felt at watching Buggy torture Luffy, you’d forced yourself to remain silence and quiet. Even if you tried to stand up to Buggy and help Luffy, you wouldn’t be able to stop him.
All that would do is get you hurt and maybe others too.
Luffy was just some boy you’d randomly met in that bar. Met isn’t even the right word. He’d stopped you from falling and had tried to talk to you, but you’d turned tail and ran the second he had.
It was best you stayed hidden and hoped that Buggy would kill them soon and then you could just forget all about Luffy and his friends.
That’s what you should do.
That’s what you intended on doing.
“Hey, kid!”
Eyes widening, you watch as Buggy races towards the crowd, grabbing a kid by the neck.
“You want to get tall fast?”
Your body moves on instinct, feet taking you forward before you can even register what you’ve done.
“Buggy!”
Halting at the sound of your voice, the crowd stills, the child still in his grasp, Buggy twists his head to glance at you. Instantly, the smile on his face twists into a frown as he glares at you. Leaning back, his grip leaves the kid as he shakes his head.
“Was wondering where you snuck off too, Angel Eye.” He growls, and you inhale sharply.
“I thought the cost of their lives was on my shoulders,” you breathe, clenching your fists in an attempt to soothe the racing of your heart. “Leave the kid alone.”
Buggy hesitates, lips parting, but before he can say anything, Luffy’s voice cuts in;
“Hey,” he’s suddenly calling, voice light-hearted and not at all the tone someone should have in the predicament he’s currently stuck in. “Aren’t you the girl from the bar? The one who ran away?”
Body tensing, you freeze in place.
So he did recognize you.
Letting out a shaky breath, you slowly turn your head to meet Luffy’s waiting gaze, watching as his squinted eyes slowly widen in recognition.
“It is you!” He exclaims, laughing. “Where’s your cool eye patch?”
You don’t respond, terrified eyes turning back to Buggy who glances between you and Luffy.
“Please,” you choose instead to focus back on the kid, pleading. “Leave the boy alone. Let me pay the price for the mayor speaking out.” Pressing your hand to your chest, you plead.
Buggy stares at you for a moment, before letting out a loud laugh.
“I did once tell you that,” he snorts, “but I’ve changed my mind.”
He’s spinning, grabbing the kid and yanking him to his feet before you can even think to respond. You gasp in response, racing forward, but before you can reach him, Buggy has spun the boy and himself around to face Luffy.
“Boogie,” Luffy starts, “I’m warning you.”
Jerking the kid, Buggy hisses; “it’s Buggy! And you’re warning me? Now that’s a laugh.”
He pauses, and all that’s heard in response is the sound of the boy letting out a small gasp of fright.
“I said,” Buggy sighs, “that’s a laugh.”
Instantly, a chorus of forced and frightened laughter echoes.
“Buggy,” you call, “please. Don’t hurt him!”
You try to take a step towards Buggy but before you can make it a single step, your wrist is grabbed by another. You whip around in response, only to see the edge of a blade held directly at your throat. One of Buggy’s crew grins back at you.
You mentally curse yourself for being trapped so easily, useless to do anything to help the kid when the sound of Luffy yelling catches your attention.
His hands, which have been stretched wide thanks to the Gum Gum Devil Fruit he’d eaten, are slipping through the restraints holding him hostage. You watch with wide eyes and parted lips as he frees himself, falling to the ground with a thud the second his wrist slips through the cuff.
Standing, he glares at Buggy; “put him down.”
“But why?” Buggy laughs, and your eyes fall back on him in fear for the kid. “He’s having such a great time. Aren’t you, junior?”
To answer his own question, Buggy forces the kids lips into a smile.
“Yes,” he says in a child’s voice. “The best, Buggy.”
Luffy only hesitates a second, before he’s flinging his fist back, arm stretching like rubber behind him as he bellows; “gum gum…” Then, his hand swings forward, landing a hit right on Buggy’s face. “Pistol!”
You watch in shock he’d managed to land a hit on Buggy, but no hope floods you.
You know the ability Buggy holds.
As you expect, his head detaches from his neck, falling into the lap of one of the townspeople which causes an uproar of terror, screams following in response.
“Well, well, well,” Buggy calls from the lap he’d landed on, flipping his head round so it’s straight up. “Looks like we have something else in common,” he chuckles, before returning his head to his body. The only relief you feel is the sight of him letting the kid go.
“You ate a Devil Fruit?” Luffy asks.
“The Chop Chop Fruit,” Buggy clarifies, before stepping forward. As he does, he takes off his jacket before pieces of his body begin to separate for emphasis. “So you can slice me and you can dice me, but I’ll always put myself back together again. Wanna see what else I can do?”
Attached again, you watch as Buggy raises his right arm, the hand gone.
Your eyes widen.
“Luffy, watch—!”
It’s too late. The second Luffy’s head turns round, Buggy has already squashed the fruit in his grasp, effectively knocking Luffy out.
You watch his body hit the ground with a thud.
“Y/N,” Buggy calls, pulling your eyes on him as your whole body tenses. “Me and you need to have a little chat.”
-
“Let me out! Hey! Let me out!”
Shaking the bars of the cage, you know realistically no matter how loud you scream or hard you pull, no ones coming to get you nor are you getting free. Buggy had locked you in the familiar cage shortly after everything, locking it with a smile on his face and the promise that he’d come to set you free later.
When he felt like it.
And then you and him would hash out your “differences”, he’d said. Grinning and eyes shining with malice and intent to hurt, you’d tried to ask for his forgiveness but he’d only left you begging without a single glance back.
That had been fifteen, maybe twenty minutes ago and you hadn’t heard anything or seen Buggy or a single member of the crew.
It wasn’t the first time Buggy had locked you in this cage. You could no longer keep track of the amount of times you’d been forced into the small cage for “punishment”, whether by your own actions or those of the townspeople. You hated it and that’s exactly why Buggy kept you in here, because he knew how much it terrified you to be trapped like this.
It felt worse this time, though. Worse because you knew that Luffy was in danger and potentially the townspeople too. Buggy’s insistence to go after that boy showed you he was growing bored of using you as a scapegoat every time the townspeople did something he didn’t like. You knew no matter how much he hurt you, he’d never kill you. Buggy had some sort of sick fascination with you, and if he simply planned on getting rid of you, he would’ve done it already.
The townspeople though? Luffy? He’d definitely kill them.
“Please!” You bellow, voice screeching in your desperation as you shake the door of the cage, the metal clanging against itself with no give. “Buggy!”
The only thing you’re given in response is more silence.
Hugging your knees to your chest, you bite your lip to hold back the sob that threatens to pull from your lips. You were so sick of this. So sick of all of this. Being a captive of Buggy’s, forced to be his play thing day in and day out and watching innocent people be hurt and murdered around you constantly.
You hated it.
Feeling your eyes water, you sniffle, throat burning from your screaming and hands aching with how hard you’d been pulling as you accept the fact that Buggy was going to leave you here until he wanted to free you.
And you weren’t going to get out any other way.
A few minutes of silence pass, stuck in your thoughts and trying to keep the panic at bay, before footsteps echo. You sit up immediately, twisting the small bit you can in the cage, waiting to see the familiar face of Buggy walk through the tent.
Only, it isn’t Buggy who walks in.
It’s the green-haired swordsman you’d seen with Luffy.
He pauses at the sight of you as you gape up at him.
Then, a minute later, he’s blinking; “who are you?”
A second passes, one, two, and then your lips part in disbelief.
“What are you doing here?” You breath, bewildered. “Shouldn’t you be… Didn’t Buggy…?”
The man shrugs. “I was looking for booze,” he points behind himself. “I escaped.”
You’re absolutely floored.
“And Luffy?”
“He did too,” the man nods, shifting to set his hands on his swords again. You frown when you realize there’s three. “Clown guy’s defeated.”
That gives you pause. Wide eyed, you gape at him; “you defeated Buggy?”
“Naturally,” the man snorts.
Lips parting, you find no words to respond and instead, stare back at him as if he’d grown an additional head, baffled.
You don’t have to find the words though, because in the next second, a cheery voice is calling out; “Zoro!”
Luffy comes racing in through the tent in the next second, followed by the orange-haired girl. You blink, gripping the bars of your cage as you watch Luffy bound up to the man, Zoro, oblivious to the way he pulls away from him in response.
Then, Luffy’s eyes fall on you.
“Eyepatch girl!”
Zoro frowns. “She’s not wearing an eyepatch.”
“Ah, but she was!” Luffy cheers, pointing at you. “It was so cool!”
“We should hurry up,” the girl cuts in, looking unimpressed as her eyes flicker over you briefly before turning back to Luffy and Zoro. “I don’t want the marines catching up to us.”
“True, true,” Luffy nods.
“You find anything useful?” Zoro asks, glancing at the girl.
“Not really,” the girl shrugs, “most of it is just weird circus crap. Now,” she shifts to Luffy. “Can we go?”
You watch the whole conversation in astonished silence. It doesn’t even occur to you to ask them what happened, if Buggy’s whole crew was defeated or most importantly set you free. The whole nonchalance of their conversation stuns you stupid.
“Should let the girl go, no?” Zoro asks, pointing at you. You straighten when the attention is turned to you. “Or am I the only one noticing she’s in a cage?”
The girl's eyes meet yours before settling on the large lock keeping you trapped. “I found a set of keys on one of the guys. Here.” She slips past Zoro and Luffy, heading towards you. Stopping right in front of you, she starts filtering through the keys.
“It’s, uh, that one,” you point at one smaller key. “I’ve seen it before when, well, the other times I’ve been locked in here.” Your voice quiets as you finish your sentence, curling in on yourself at the attention that garners you.
The girl just nods.
In the next minute, you’re on your feet, standing in front of the three of them.
“Now can we go?”
“Sure, Nami,” Luffy grins, “just one last thing.”
He’s spinning round to face you, and then his hands are on your shoulders and his beaming smile is focused solely on you.
“Join my crew.”
Silence.
Then, “what?”
You, Zoro and Nami all echo it, voices loud, pitched and in disbelief as Luffy just grins at you.
“You were a part of Buggy’s crew, yeah?” He asks and you slowly nod. “Perfect, then you’ve already got the experience.”
“What, I—” Stumbling over your words, you shake your head. “You don’t even know my name. I mean… I was a part of Buggy’s crew. The same crew who just held you all captive! Shouldn’t that make me… like your guys’ enemy or something?”
“Nah,” Luffy waves you off. “You looked pretty miserable with him. Not to mention, we found you in a cage. Plus, I saw you stand up for that kid. That’s the kind of person I need on my crew.”
You just stare at him, then Zoro, then the girl, and though they look unimpressed, you notice they are staring back at you almost as if they expect you to come with them too.
Were any of these people normal?
“I’m a lousy fighter.”
“No problem,” Luffy shrugs. “Zoro can teach you.”
“Don’t volunteer me,” Zoro huffs, bopping Luffy on the head.
He doesn’t argue though.
“I’m a freak.” You say, trying to come up with a reason why asking you to come with them was a terrible choice. You figured since Buggy had spent enough of his time reminding you of the fact, surely Luffy would agree.
Luffy shakes his head. “Your eyes are cool! They don’t even match,” he laughs, “and I like your eyepatch too.”
“Luffy,” the girl hisses at him, lowering her voice. “Have some tact. She’s… blind in her right eye.”
Luffy turns to look at her, before turning back to you, lips parted and head tilted as if in curiosity.
“It’s true,” you mumble, pressing your hand to your eye, covering it from sight. You definitely needed to find your eyepatch. You hated not having it on. “I can’t see anything with this eye. Another reason why you shouldn’t want me on your crew. I’m… I’d be no help…”
You don’t dare glance at any of them, fearing the looks you’d receive in response. You didn’t want to see their pity and you definitely don’t want to see the disgust on their faces at your disability.
“That—!”
“You’ve got nowhere else to go, right?” Zoro cuts off whatever Luffy had been about to say. You meet his eyes in disbelief, not expecting him to be the one to speak up before frowning and giving him a nod. “Might as well come with us then.”
Staring at him a moment longer, you let your eyes fall on the girl, who simply shrugs back at you before turning back to Luffy’s beaming expression. He nods at you excitedly, eagerly urging you to agree.
Not knowing how else to decline and knowing deep in your heart you don’t want to, you nod.
“O-Okay.”

After Luffy had backtracked to grab a single bun of the food the mayor and town had tried to offer them, you hesitate on following.
Your eyes follow him as he jumps up on the boat and you see the three of them staring back at you, waiting. But your feet won’t move. There’s a moment where you just stand there, before you turn, bowing your head down and saying the words you’ve wanted to say since that day Buggy had landed on Orange Island.
“I’m so sorry.”
Eyes falling shut, you grip the sides of your shirt, waiting for the anger you expect to receive from the townspeople. You’d been a part of the crew that had tortured them and destroyed their town; you wouldn’t be surprised if they wanted to kill you themselves.
When you don’t hear anything, you slowly glance up at them.
Only to see them all smiling down at you.
“We should be the ones apologizing,” the mayor dismisses, shaking his head at you as he urges you to stand back up. “And thanking you. You saved our lives that day.”
Shoulders falling, something warm floods you at his words in the midst of the astonishment you feel.
“We owe you a great deal, little lady.” The mayor nods, and before you can say anything, the whole town is bowing to you. They move in sync with each other, heads bowed and you can hardly believe your eyes. “Thank you.”
“I… Oh!” Hands falling to your lips, you ignore the way your vision blurs through your watery left eye, shaking your head. “Please, it’s okay! I’m… I’m just relieved you’re all free now thanks to them.”
They slowly stand up, and you let your gaze sweep across the crowd.
“I wish you the best of luck with your journey,” the mayor smiles down at you. “And hope to see you again someday.”
You smile at him one last time, stepping back as you wave to the townspeople. They return your wave, sending you all off with smiles and wishes of good luck.
Then, as you reach the boat, you find Luffy grinning back down at you.
“Let’s go!”

Could You Stay a Little Longer // drug dealer!sukuna x reader

Chapter 1 // (7.9k words) // Explicit - 18+
\|/ AO3 - Chapter 1 | Chapter 2 >>
You're pursuing a master degree across the country, but are currently back in your hometown housesitting for your parents. They've told you all about their undesirable new neighbor, but when you start to get to know said neighbor, you realize he isn't all that bad. Your controlling boyfriend won't let up on you and you grapple with enjoying the company of this drug dealing neighbor boy, Sukuna. Nothing about this is going the way you planned, but is it so bad to let yourself be treated well for a change?
The cultural setting for this is technically economically depressed, rural USA where good paying jobs are hard to come by and there's not many opportunities in small towns, but it could really be anywhere that meets this criteria!
Content Tags/Warnings Throughout Work: Reader and Sukuna are mid 20s, mentions of recreational drug use and drug dealing, mentions of abusive/controlling/manipulative relationship (not Sukuna), could possibly be considered cheating depending on your interpretation (not Sukuna), angst, smut, fluff, time skip, prison time, happy ending trust!
Flight attendants prepare for landing.
The pilot's voice over the intercom combined with the lights all coming on at once rouses you from your sorry attempt at a nap once and for all. In your groggy state you observe the flight attendants moving up and down the aisles collecting trash and doing whatever it is they do.
You always sucked at sleeping on planes and this time was no different, catching minutes of what could only be described as light dozing. Hopefully you could crash immediately once you got to your childhood bed at your parent’s house. Flying across the country was so tiring.
About twenty minutes later, you are on the ground and making your way down the aisle to the jet bridge, and out into your hometown airport.
Airport is a generous term as it’s one gate with two flights a day to the same city. At least the journey to the arrivals area was just up an escalator and about a football field length of walking down a hallway.
In the year you’ve been gone, things haven’t changed at all. Tourism banners adorn the back pickup area, giving the impression that the area had something to offer to visitors. The large university in town did draw visiting families after all, so it did indeed have a target audience.
Not you though, you’ve been here your whole life so most of the advertised offerings were old news to you. Growing up in an area often makes one take such things for granted however, so you idly walk by without much of a glance.
While a small airport was nice for getting in and out, you always beat the bag to baggage claim, so you linger around waiting until the carousel starts moving and bags begin to trickle out.
The humid air hits you in the face as you exit the airport, already feeling like your hair has frizzed up to twice its size. Definitely did not miss this at all. The mountains in the distance are a welcome sight however. You’ve always been the outdoorsy type, so the hiking, fishing, kayaking, and all other things of that nature your area had to offer were always appealing no matter how much time passed.
Your parents’ familiar car rounds the bend and pulls up to the curb with your mom waving from the passenger side. You wave in response, excited to see them both for the first time in a year. It would be brief though as the real reason you were here was to house sit while they went on a cruise for their 30th wedding anniversary. You were on break for your masters degree anyways, so you didn’t mind so they could treat themselves.
They get out, giving you a big hug before helping toss your bags into the trunk and heading home. They still lived in the house you grew up in about 30 minutes away from the airport in a more rural area.
After stopping to get your favorite greasy gas station food, you all settle in to catch up.
“So anything new happening around here?” you ask from the back seat.
“Oh you know, still continuing to build apartments and townhomes like crazy. New shops and restaurants too,” your dad responds. With the university in town expanding rapidly, so in turn was the surrounding area. Not a bad thing in your eyes. The unfortunate thing was that it was an expensive private university, which meant most locals were priced out.
“Oh you remember the young man across the street from us we told you about? His name is Sukuna,” your mom asks.
“Kind of,” you reply. They’d mentioned him a few times when you’d talk on the phone. Something about drugs and the police coming by all the time. The longtime neighbor who’d lived there as long as you could remember passed away and a young guy had moved in shortly afterwards.
Your parents' neighborhood demographic could only be described as…boring. A mix of retired people and families with stay at home parents made up the bulk of it, which left plenty of time for people to get into each other's business. Throw an unmarried young man into the mix and you stick out like a sore thumb. Cause even a slight disruption and you might as well stick a target on your back for nosey neighbors for eternity.
“The police came by last night because he was doing donuts in his yard at 2 AM,” your mom says.
“Wow that is definitely not the place to be doing that,” you laugh, “does he ever give you any trouble?”
“Personally, no we never have a problem with him. He really is a nice boy whenever we’ve talked to him. We can certainly do without his loudness and him speeding through the neighborhood. It’s a family neighborhood and there are kids playing outside! It’s just dangerous and irresponsible!” your mom rambles on with one of her long winded monologues.
“And he must be selling drugs, he has to be! People coming over and leaving at all hours of the day and night. Who knows what kind of riff raff is coming into the neighborhood,” she continues.
“Do the police do anything?” you ask with curiosity.
“Besides pulling him over for speeding and reprimanding him for breaking the noise ordinance, no there’s really nothing they can get him on. Can’t arrest someone for being a nuisance on their own property and with no neighborhood HOA, no one can say anything if he wants to tear up his yard. They’ve gotten him for reckless driving and I’m pretty sure he has a suspended license though. Like I said though, he’s a nice kid, he just seems to keep making poor choices and digging himself into a deeper hole.” your mom continues, but you start to tune her out. The woman loves to hear herself talk. You’re only here for a week and a half so you doubt you’ll have to worry about any of this.
When you get to their house your parents walk you through their cat’s and dog’s routines, should be simple enough. You say good night to them and goodbye as they are leaving for the airport well before dawn tomorrow. Exhausted beyond reason, you immediately pass out.
***
The next morning you are woken up by their dog, Macy. She’s super cute and super smart, so you have no issues with taking care of her. You let Macy out into the front yard, clipping her to an outdoor leash to let her roam around.
You notice the gardens up near the road are looking a little overgrown, so you make a note to go investigate and clean them up a little after breakfast. Macy joins you on a walk to the mailbox to grab the newspaper. You can’t even remember the last time you’ve touched a newspaper, but you figure you’ll tab through it while here to help pass the time.
You glance across the street and see the evidence of what your parents were referring to. While everyone else had a nice manicured lawn, across the street the grass was torn to shreds and nothing but a muddy mess roughly in the shape of a circle. Beer cans were scattered about near the front porch.
They weren’t kidding. Certainly quite the sight for a neighborhood like this. This was the type of behavior you’d expect from teenagers out in the country, not in a stuck up area like this.
You head inside to unpack your suitcase and whip yourself up a quick breakfast. You’ll need to run to the store either today or tomorrow to go get yourself some groceries, making another mental note.
Morning chores of bringing the paper in, letting Macy out, and feeding the cats are complete. After watching some TV and scrolling on your phone, you prepare to go check out the garden before it gets too unbearably hot.
As you start to scope it out, you do notice a few cars come and go from across the street, never staying more than a few minutes at a time. Alright, maybe your parents weren’t exaggerating about that.
You begin to rake the leaves out from the shrubs, trying to keep the metal from getting caught on the roots. After a while you start to have a decent pile when a tap on your shoulder scares the absolute shit out of you considering you had headphones in.
You turn around and are met with some tall ass guy with a mess of pink hair. Markings on his face that you quickly realize are tattoos scrunch up as he peers down at you with a curious look on his face.
Is this him? The neighbor boy?
“Can I help you?” you take one earbud out and wipe your hand across your sweat caked forehead.
“Who’re you? You’re not the middle aged yapper that's usually out here,” he responds with a deep voice that makes your eyes flick up in surprise. You are met by a pair of sunglasses, a backwards hat, and it’s impossible to miss the obvious stomach and chest muscles straining at the white t-shirt he has on.
Hmm neighbor boy is kinda attractive.
“I’m watching the house while they are away,” you say vaguely, the less interaction the better.
“Oh so you’re a housekeeper?” he clicks his tongue, leaning back a little with his hands in his pockets.
“No, I'm not a housekeeper!” you say a little too defensively which has him chuckling in response.
“Then once again, like I said earlier, who are you?” he pulls his sunglasses off revealing the deepest crimson eyes, eyes that suck you in, trapping your gaze in his. “If you just answered the first time you wouldn’t be making a fool of yourself right now.”
The nerve of this guy, does he think he’s the neighborhood watch or something? If anything you should be the one interrogating him for disrupting the whole street.
You quickly introduce yourself before explaining.
“I’m house sitting for my parents while they are on a cruise for their wedding anniversary. Watching their pets, keeping the place tidy, you know, typical shit like that,” you huff, trying to use him to shield yourself from the harsh sun. Might as well be useful for something.
“Oh, you’re the daughter?” he muses, nudging at your leaf pile with his foot.
“I am, can you not do that? I worked hard clearing all that out,” you prod at his foot with your rake.
“It’s fucking leaves, who cares where they go now, they’re out of the garden,” he counters, choosing to wind up and kick the pile instead. The leaves scatter around as he looks at you expectantly, clearly trying to get a reaction out of you. Which you want to give him so badly, but you’re not playing into his game.
“I hope you aren’t giving me landscaping advice judging by the pathetic state of your yard over there,” you scoff, gesturing at the torn up lawn.
“It’s my yard, I’ll do what I want with it,” he narrows his eyes at you before suddenly ripping the rake out of your hand and piling them back up.
“There, better?” he leans down to stare you in the eyes, those long eyelashes fluttering in just the way to make you want to crack a smile.
“Yeah, I guess, thanks for putting them back,” you mutter. You start to turn back around to continue your work, but you realize he’s not going away.
“Are these tomatoes?” he asks as he stands right where you are trying to work, pointing at what are obviously tomatoes on the vine.
“No they’re bananas,” you retort sarcastically. Who the fuck doesn’t know what a tomato is, everyone and their mother grows them in this area.
He turns around silently, brows furrowing with a frown, making you feel a little guilty for being like that.
“You’re kinda mean you know that? Your parents are really nice to me, I hope they’ll be home soon. You didn’t even ask my name all this time.”
Okay mister sensitive all of a sudden.
“Look, I’m sorry. I got in late last night and I might be a little tired and grumpy,” you give him a weak smile. He tries to keep a straight, serious face, but ultimately he fails, cracking into a boyish grin instead.
“I’m just giving you a hard time…kinda, you have to admit you were being a liiiiiitle harsh though. But anyways, I’m Ryomen Sukuna, I moved to this house a year ago, I’m 24 years old, and I grew up around here,” he declares with a smile.
“Oh really? So did I,” you perk up a little. The name and looks don’t seem familiar.
“Yeah I’m from one county over. My parents actually bought me this place. I was getting into some trouble and they said a family oriented neighborhood should make me act better.”
“Oh? How’s that working out for you?”
“Eh, there’s ups and downs,” he looks away as he speaks.
Interesting. Now the real question.
“What do you do for work? Feel like most people are gone at this time of day.”
“Oh I just do odd jobs here and there. No real career job, still figuring out what I wanna do, you know how it is,” he skirts the question as he pulls out a vape and inhales deeply.
This guy definitely is into some suspicious shit. It’s a common situation for a certain subset of young guys around here. They start to mess around with drugs in high school, nothing too serious, just a way to get some extra money because a minimum wage job doesn’t pay shit. Plus it usually gets you in with the popular crowd..
Then you graduate, enroll in the local community college or if your parents are well off, you go to one of the big state universities.  More often than not, people end up back here either by dropping out or graduating and coming back. Considering his parents bought him a house, he seems to be one of the dropouts.
Eventually they realize nothing in this economically depressed area will pay even close to what moving drugs will, so they settle into a lifestyle with their fellow high school buddies whose parents aren’t cold enough to kick them off their credit cards.
The final phase is usually getting locked up or getting a girl pregnant that makes them drop the habit once and for all. Or they just become a deadbeat dad because there’s plenty of those around here too. Something for everyone.
You’ll just play along while you’re here and soon it’ll all be out of your hands.
Macy comes trotting up the driveway and goes straight to Sukuna.
“Hi Macy,” he surprises you with a high pitched voice, reaching down to rub all over her as she wags her tail.
“Oh you and Macy know each other?”
“Yeah when your dad walks her and I’m outside he’ll let me pet her sometimes. She’s real cute.”
Your heart skips the slightest beat, just barely perceptible, but you notice and it surprises you. Something about guys being kind to animals…
“Well I better get back over there, let you get back to it,” Sukuna stretches, shirt hitching up revealing his toned stomach and what appears to be more ink. Your curiosity makes your mind race with thoughts of what other tattoos he’s got hiding under there…among other things.
Stop, you’ve got a partner back home. Well, maybe that’s giving him too much credit, but he does exist when he feels like it. You shake the thought away quickly, taking a few steps towards him walking away.
“Wait, do you want some of them? The tomatoes I mean? The ripe ones will go bad before my parents get back and I don’t really like them.”
He turns around, eyes widening in surprise.
“Sure, I’ll take them.”
You cut them off and place them in his large hand, noticing another set of tattooed rings of some sort on his wrist. Distracted by the ink, your hand brushes his by accident. It’s softer than you imagined, causing tingles to run through your wrist and up your forearm.
“Whoops, sorry,” you utter, feeling yourself heat up from your clumsiness.
“You’re good. Thank you, I’ll see you around. Lemme know if you need anything while you’re here,” he waves before turning around and going back across the street.
What an…interesting guy. Maybe your parents were spot on about him after all. He seemed kind with a hint of boyish immaturity about him, nothing obviously malicious from that first interaction. If he wants to sell shit out of his house and mind his own business, you didn’t really have an issue with that.
Plus dogs should be able to tell if someone is bad news right?
***
While walking Macy that evening, you run into a group of women you’ve known since you were younger. You stop to catch up and talk to them and realize they are talking about none other than Sukuna.
“He’s across the street from you dear, have you noticed anything off since you’ve been here?” Mrs Yates asked you as you approached.
“Um, not really, he briefly waved to me while I was in the garden, but that’s it,” you tell a white lie, not really wanting to get into it, giving him the benefit of the doubt.
“Your poor parents having to live across from that scum, he’s only going to make their home value go down. I wish the police would hurry up already and lock him up again,” another woman you don’t recognize chimes in.
“Wait, again?” you press, surprised to hear that.
“Oh yeah hun, he’s got a rap sheet of charges. Nothing too bad, but go run a search online when you get home. If you see anything questionable, you’d best report it to the police, they should be doing patrols so the more we complain the more likely they’ll actually come by.”
The more you listen to them, the more it sounds like it’s Sukuna versus the neighborhood. You don’t have allegiance one way or another, so you just shrug and continue your walk with Macy. You’d plan to look up his charges when you get home this evening.
Day 2
“Goddammit!” you slam your hand on the dashboard of your dads car. You were trying to go to the grocery store but lo and behold, the battery was dead. Because of course it was.
You pulled out your phone, trying to google how to start a car by yourself, which is stupid because you knew you needed cables and another car. You’re met with a text from your partner instead which surprises you. What doesn’t surprise you is how it’s berating and belittling, very typical for him.
He’d had a fit when you said you were going to your parents, he didn’t like it very much at all whenever you did something without him, claiming you were likely hanging out with other guys. This was rich coming from him considering he was always gas lighting you about how you were being manipulative and controlling when you would call him out on his cheating and sexting random girls.
You kept going back to him though, he’d give you those sweet, loving apologies, saying how it won’t happen again, you were the one he really loved, not to give up on him because he’s getting better.
This time he was commenting on how you were being sketchy by turning your location sharing off, likely going out with ex boyfriends while you were in town. You just could never win with him, one step forward three steps back every time.
As you pounded the dash, your anger morphed into shedding tears. Tears from being overwhelmed in the moment. It was devastating not having someone you could lean on. Instead of having someone tell you they loved you and missed you, instead you got accused of being a whore, slut, easy, all of the above. It was just so draining at this point.
And all you wanted was to go to the goddamn store, but no that can’t be easy either. Then you remember Sukuna’s words from yesterday, “lemme know if you need anything.”
Well, time to put your money where your mouth is neighbor boy. You make your way across his yard towards his front porch, kicking a beer can as hard as you could in the process, nailing the front step with a satisfying crash.
As you knock on the door, you realize there are a few cars in his driveway. If he has company he might blow you off. This might have been a mistake…
“Oi, ‘sup tomato girl?” you hear his deep voice call out from the second story window.
“Can you come help me with my car?” you yell up to him, also what the fuck is that nickname?
“What’s wrong with it?” he’s leaning out the window, shirtless, with a cigarette hanging out his mouth, hair looking absolutely disheveled. What the fuck is he even doing?
You hear a muffled voice from inside but you can’t make out what it says, only Sukuna’s response.
“No dipshit, it’s my neighbor’s daughter.”
“Oh you fucked her yet?”
Christ alive, you’re about to just turn around and get away from this freak show. As you start to do just that, Sukuna yells at you again.
“I asked what’s wrong with it? Where are you going? Hey!”
You just ignore him and head back towards the street, you’ll ask someone else for help since he can’t be mature for more than five seconds.
You make it halfway across his yard and that’s when you hear the screen door behind you slam and loud footsteps bounding across the yard. His strong grip lands on your wrist, whipping you around to face him. His shorts are baggy and laying low on his hips, exposing his boxers which are hanging on sharp V lines. And lord have mercy his body is absolutely shredded…and tatted. Your mouth is suddenly dry in the damp morning air.
“What’s your deal? I’m trying to help you,” he cocks his head, staring down at you through his wide, red eyes.
“I wasn’t going to stand there and be talked about like a piece of meat like that,” you raise your voice at him, but your facade cracks and the tears start to fall again.
“I didn’t say that though! My stupid ass friend did,” he argues back, squeezing your hand with his when he realizes what’s happening.
“Oh god, look I’m sorry, I promise that’s not how I feel about you, I’ll whoop his ass when I get back over there.”
“It’s-sniff-fine, it’s not you, just already been a bad morning and this car issue isn’t helping,” you rasp out, the words of your boyfriend weighing heavy on you right now as you start hyperventilating.
“Are you okay?” Sukuna’s red eyes widen with a hint of softness, pulling you toward a tree in his yard to get you both into the shade. He presses you into his chest and you just dig your nails into his bare skin, body shaking as the panicked moment tears through you,
How much do you even want to divulge to a man you barely know? Not much, especially because you already feel embarrassed enough that you can’t seem to get out of this relationship.
“I’m fine, just personal stuff from back home,” your breathing is starting to come under control, him restraining you seemed to help ground yourself. You both stay like this for a while, the birds chirping in the morning air and the breeze making the leaves whisper in the wind.
“Thanks, I feel a little better now,” you finally exhale, noticing his rock hard torso under your fingers that you’d been oblivious to moments ago and a hint of cigarette smell lingering on his skin.
“Sure?”
“Mhmm”
“Okay good, now what’s wrong with your car? I’m good with cars, I work on mine all the time,” he says with gentle words.
“It won’t start, I think it just needs a jump, it shouldn’t take long at all.”
“Okay, was that so hard? Damn girl. Go over there and I’ll meet you in your driveway,” he smirks before turning around.
You watch him walk away, noticing tattoos also snaking down broad shoulders to his prominent back dimples.
He’s hot, there’s no other way to put it. You wouldn’t be upset if he came over half naked to help you out. Hell you’d be content to just set up a chair in the driveway and watch him fuck around with your car, let’s be real.
Unfortunately for you, he returns with a shirt on. It’s a cut off tank top, so his muscular, inked up arms are still visible. At least he’s nice to look at.
His car is also a sharp looking red sports car with what looks like numerous aftermarket upgrades. You don’t know shit about cars, but it looks way more expensive and flashy than anything else in this neighborhood and it's questionable whether or not it's street legal.
He pops the hood, hooking the jumper cables up to your battery and his. He inspects under the hood before turning back around.
“Your oil needs changing and you’re out of wiper fluid,” he says matter of factly, “lemme get this started then I’ll fix that other stuff for you.”
“Oh you don’t need to do that, I can take it to a shop-“
“Nonsense, allow me. A thank you for the tomatoes, then we’re even. Why don’t you go inside where it’s cool and let me deal with this.”
He slicks his pink hair back, holding out his hand for your keys. It is hot as fuck out and you feel bad leaving him out here, but he seems to not be taking no for an answer.
“Okay, come get me when you’re done. I was trying to go to the store.”
He nods in response and you take your leave. About an hour later he barges in the front door, startling you from reading on the couch.
“Knock much?” you laugh at him, only partially joking. He’s dripping sweat and you immediately jump up, moving to the kitchen to get him something to drink.
“Sorry, I probably should, young girl being home alone and all,” he grins sheepishly, “can I wash my hands?” he holds them out and you realize they are covered in oil and grime.
“Oh yeah, bathroom is the first door on the right upstairs.”
By the time he’s back downstairs, you’ve got a glass of cold lemonade waiting for him complete with a straw.
“Oh my god I’m going to destroy that,” he takes it and chugs it in about three sips.
You burst out laughing as his eyes almost roll back with a loud sigh.
“Best damn thing I’ve ever tasted,” he exhales, “oh AND a bendy straw! You’re spoiling me,” he exclaims with excitement to which you laugh in amusement.
“Hold on I’ll get you more, actually, why don’t you just take the pitcher home with you, you need it more than me.”
“I'd rather drink it here,” he responds, collapsing into a chair at the kitchen table, “it’ll get hot transporting it back to my place. Also your tires needed air, so I used my compressor to top them off. Lame for your dad to leave you with a car in this state.”
“Oh geez, I didn’t even know, thank you for that. I don’t know shit about cars so I’d never have noticed.”
“No worries tomato girl, can’t have you getting stuck on the side of the road now can we? The cell service around here is too shit for that.”
“Did you just leave your friends over there alone?” you ask as you top off his glass.
“They’re fine, they’re helping me with something, I don’t need to be there,” he says between sips.
“Can I get a ride with you to the store?” he blurts out after downing another glass.
“Ummm sure? Why?” you ask cautiously. You really don’t know him at all.
“I can’t drive right now,” he responds, fidgeting with the glass in his hands, averting his gaze.
“You just drove across the street.”
“Yeaaaaaah I shouldn’t have done that though. My license is suspended right now,” he says bluntly.
Oh my. That’s…something.
“It’s suspended?”
“Yeah, I got too many tickets, it’s suspended until my court date.”
Your mind goes back to the list of offenses you’d looked up on the county police department website last night. There had been a slew of high speed tickets that were considered reckless driving charges, underage drinking, drunk in public, drug possession charges, driving with a suspended license, vandalism, trespassing, and breaking and entering. Nothing too terrible, but a long list nonetheless.
All that and here he was at the kitchen table looking cute as fuck sipping lemonade out of a pink cup with a bendy straw.
“So what do ya say? Can I come with?” he presses. He’s a demanding thing, also a little impulsive, which might explain his record.
“Sure why not, let’s leave in a half hour.”
“Hell yeaaaaaah! It’ll be fun. I’ll go shower and meet you back over here,” he flashes that boyish grin at you again as he dashes out the door.
While he’s gone, you finish tidying up. You are in the hallway as you hear the front door open again, but it quickly shuts. Instead you hear a knock at the door, making you chuckle under your breath, knowing damn well Sukuna tried to come in without asking.
“It’s open,” you yell down to him.
“What’s the point of knocking if you don’t even come down to see who it is?”
“I already know who it is, I said we were leaving in 30 minutes.”
“I could have been a criminal or a rapist!” he scoffs as he throws himself onto the living room couch, pulling out his phone to text. He’s got a gold hoop in his ear and a gold chain around his neck along with a backwards hat. It’s honestly giving drug dealer because there’s no jobs around here that pay enough to buy shit like that. A pair of shorts and a red shirt pull it all together.
“Aren’t you already a criminal though?” you say before thinking, unable to help yourself.
“Ha ha, very funny tomato girl,” he rolls his eyes as you approach him.
“Sorry that was a low blow.”
“It’s fine, it’s all public record. I assume you already know my history.”
“I do, I got curious. So what kind of drug possession was it?” you tease.
“Why? You buying?” he winks at you and flashes that cocky grin again. A grin that is starting to stir up butterflies in your stomach whenever you see it.
“Depends.”
He arches an eyebrow in surprise.
“Nothing you should be using,” he shakes his head, sitting up and staring intently at you. Those crimson pools are threatening to suck you in again, each time you stare into them, the closer you get to drowning in them all together.
“Oh, the hard stuff huh?”
“Mhmm, I don’t use my own stuff. Just smoke weed but nothing more than that. Sometimes I have to test the product, but that’s for business purposes.”
“Fascinating, let’s go now,” you hold out your hand to pull him up off the couch.
He grabs your hand, thinking he’s going to pull himself up, but instead he yanks his arm back so you lose your balance, falling into him on the couch instead. Your face crashes into his rock hard chest and you end up straddling his thigh.
“Oh my, tomato girl, did seeing a man work on your car get you all hot and bothered?” he smirks, looking down at you with lidded eyes.
You smack his chest as you sit up. “What the fuck is your problem? You petulant child!”
“Um I was trying to get up and I slipped,” he teases, holding his arms back away from you, “besides, I’m not touching you, see?”
You scoff and quickly get up, feeling the heat rush to your cheeks in embarrassment.
“No more lemonade for you, now go get in the car before I change my mind!”
“Yes ma’am,” he jumps up and holds the front door for you. He then proceeds to open the driver side door for you, shutting it before circling around to the passenger side.
He slides a pair of expensive looking sunglasses on and slouches down in the seat next to you.
“Buckle your seatbelt,” you tap his shoulder.
“Yes mom,” he groans.
You’re both silent as you drive down the road, Sukuna engrossed in his phone next to you.
Your phone meanwhile starts blowing up with calls and texts.
“Damn, miss popular,” Sukuna grabs your phone from the center console before you can.
“Cam sure is being a needy bitch,” Sukuna huffs. Dammit, he must be in one of those moods where he’s blaming you for everything under the sun.
“Yeah he does that,” you don’t elaborate.
“Who is that?” Sukuna probes.
“He’s my boyfriend, kind of, not really, I don’t really know honestly.”
“Oh. You’ve got a man?” Sukuna hums.
“Yeah,” you give a short response. The phone rings continuously for the next ten minutes, making you get super embarrassed.
“Listen tomato girl, I’m not an expert on relationships, but either this guy is experiencing a national emergency or he’s acting like a crazy stalker. And based on how quiet you are, I’m leaning towards the latter.”
“Yeah you’re not wrong. He’s very…intense.”
“Is this normal behavior from sir Cam?” Sukuna throws his phone on the floor to give you his full attention.
Unfortunately.
“Sometimes, yes,” you say quietly, desperate to move onto something else.
“Does he hurt you?” Sukuna’s tone gets deeper, a hint of protectiveness in his words.
“Sukuna we’ve known each other for barely a day, I really don’t think we should be talking about this.”
“Hmm well that’s more telling than any other answer you could have given,” he says through gritted teeth, staring out the front windshield.
“It’s none of your concern, drop it.”
“Alright, fair enough, still doesn’t mean I don’t care and can’t voice my displeasure, free speech and all,” he mutters.
You grab your phone and opt to just turn it off.
“Do you have a girlfriend?” you change the subject.
“Nah, I’m more of a fling kind of guy. I mean sometimes I’ll be into one girl for a while, but it’s never serious,” he answers. Seems pretty on brand for him. Drug dealer, in trouble with the law, doesn’t seem like long term relationship material.
“Nothing wrong with that,” you click your tongue in response. The rest of the drive is in silence until you pull into the parking lot.
“Put your number in my phone in case we get separated,” Sukuna says as you walk towards the store which is comical because the store is not even that big compared to ones in the city you live in. You do so anyway and then call yourself from his phone.
“Done.”
“Good.”
“What are you going to get?” you try to make conversation, you’re just so thrown off after talking about Cam in the car. Something about him reaching out triggers that freeze response in you, then Sukuna saying something about it just made you feel bad, like rubbing salt in the wound.
“Gonna get some stuff to make to use those tomatoes,” he hums.
“Do you like cooking?”
“Yeah I do, I’ve always been into it.”
“That’s cool. I’m not the best cook,” you laugh.
“Well you make a mean lemonade, if we combine we can make a great overall meal,” he pulls you into his side with one arm. He smells really good, a mix of his body wash and cologne filling your senses. It’s oddly comforting after everything that happened.
“Hey, I didn’t mean to make you feel bad back there,” he leans down to whisper in your ear, one arm still wrapped around you, “I’m sure it’s easier said than done to get out of a shitty situation like that. Just know, you’re too nice and way too damn pretty to be dealing with all that.”
You feel tears rush to your eyes. That’s the nicest thing someone has said to you in a long time, especially from a man. You can’t be crying in a grocery store parking lot though with a guy you barely know, so you try to suck it up.
“Thanks Sukuna, that’s really nice of you to say.”
“It’s the truth, I just hope you remember it if you ever hear otherwise, don’t forget it.”
You end up just following each other through the store, dividing the shopping cart into his and yours.
“We should get popsicles,” Sukuna exclaims, “it’s so hot outside.”
“That’s such a good idea,” you laugh.
“Here, let’s get a box of 20, that should last us until you leave, plus a few extra,” Sukuna grins, reaching into the freezer.
“Think fast,” he presses the box against your bare shoulder, making you shriek from the cold on your skin.
“Oh my god!! You are insane,” you slap his arm playfully, “I’m locking those up in my house and not sharing anymore.”
“Wow there you go being mean again,” he feigns a sad frown.
“And that wasn’t mean?”
“No, I was just making sure they were cold enough, can’t test it on yourself if you’re expecting it,” he says confidently, that boyish grin making your heart flutter.
“Yo Sukuna, what’re you doing here?” you hear the voice of a man behind you. You turn to see a man with brown hair and a similar mark as Sukuna on his nose.
“Choso,” Sukuna’s voice becomes a low growl, his normally playful demeanor has vanished. His eyes are almost black now and he stands up a little straighter.
“Didn’t know you had a girl now boss?” the man says, a hint of shakiness in his voice.
“What the fucks it look like?” he snaps, his voice making your veins feel like ice.
“I uh, wasn’t sure-“
“You’re still short this month, I better see money for everything you sold or you won’t like the consequences. You wouldn’t want to end up like Toji would you?” he says so low you can barely hear him, but Choso’s eyes and face look like he’s seen a ghost.
“I, I will, don’t worry boss, it won’t happen again.”
“I know it won’t. There won’t be a second time,” Sukuna’s menacing voice makes you want to get the fuck away from here and whatever this is.
As soon as it’s begun, it’s over though, Choso dipping out towards the front and Sukuna snapping back into his chipper demeanor again.
“Sorry about that sweets, when duty calls, I must answer,” he hits his vape in the middle of the frozen food section.
“You’re scary,” you say lowly to him.
“Good, that’s what I was going for,” he smirks at you, “now let’s get this stuff home before it melts yeah?”
***
Sukuna helps you bring all your groceries into your parents house. While you go to the bathroom, he pulls everything out of the bags and groups them based on freezer food, vegetables and fruits, pantry items, and toiletries.
“I wasn’t sure where you wanted to put everything, but hopefully this helps,” he says as he places a box of cereal on the counter.
“Aww thank you, you didn’t have to do that,” you say with a smile.
“I didn’t, but I wanted to,” he flashes a toothy grin your way. “Do you want to take custody of the popsicles or should I?”
“Probably me, lord knows what goes on in your house and I don’t want to accidentally come up on something trying to get a popsicle,” you laugh.
“Oh hush, it’s not that bad in there,” Sukuna retorts, handing you things to put away as you sort through the cabinets. “You’re probably right though, don’t want you coming across any unsavory characters,” he sighs.
***
Later that evening, you get Macy ready to go on a walk. The heat of the day has lessened significantly and you’re grateful for it. As you reach the street, you notice Sukuna picking up the trash in his yard.
“Oh hey! Where are you off to?” he strides towards you, tossing some beer cans in the open trash can sitting out in the yard.
“Just taking Macy on her walk, wanna join?” you offer without thinking. What if people see you with him, won’t that cause the rumor mill to fly?
His face lights up and you immediately dismiss those thoughts. At least he’s someone who seems to enjoy spending time around you, unlike your man back home who is always so quick to complain or put you down. Who cares if he has issues, most all of us do, some are just better at hiding them.
“Gimme like five minutes to finish cleaning up the yard. I’m having people over and don’t wanna give the cops more of a reason to be up my ass.”
“Oh, trying to impress someone special?” you joke.
“Sure, you could say that,” he shrugs, facing away from you now.
You chuckle and end up sitting in the grass to wait, rubbing Macy’s belly as she rolls over. Moments later you feel his presence next to you, holding out his hand for you.
“Um I was offering to help Macy up actually,” he teases before pulling you up. He gives Macy a few pets before taking her leash from your hand.
“Wait, popsicles!” you exclaim.
“Holy shit you’re so right! I’ll hold Macy if you wanna go get them,” he says with serious conviction.
“What flavor?”
“Red.”
“Red isn’t a flavor,” you snort.
“You know what I meaaaaaaannn,” he whines.
Soon you are back with popsicles in tow and you begin your walk.
“So what’s a typical day like for you?” Sukuna asks as he falls into step next to you.
“Hmmm, usually I go to class, teach my undergrad class, try to squeeze lunch in there, go to the lab to work on my research, then get home sometime in the evening to try and wind down.”
“Your boyfriend live with you?”
“Nope, I live alone. Relationship is too volatile for a long term lease,” you laugh.
“So are you on or off right now?” he asks, words slightly muffled by the popsicle at his lips.
“I guess on, I don’t know, it’s hard to tell sometimes. Speak of the devil,” you mutter as your phone starts ringing. You don’t answer, but after three more calls Sukuna yanks it out of your hand.
“Sukuna what are-“
“Hello? Who’s this? You’re looking for who? Oh you must mean tomato girl,” he snickers as he puts the phone on speaker.
“She’s busy right now, she has one of my popsicles in her mouth so she can’t talk, it’s pretty big and sticky, her hands can’t touch the phone in their state,” he puts the phone on mute as he busts out laughing and you can’t help but join in.
“What the fuck, you fucking serious? You better get your hands off my girl,” Cam’s furious voice comes through the phone.
“I’m not touching her, she’s standing like five feet away.”
“What about this popsicle-“
“It’s grape flavored, she seems like she’s really enjoying it. Well I’m going to go now, nice meeting you Chris!” he says sarcastically as he hangs up.
“He is so pissed, bet he’s having a nuclear fallout of a meltdown right now. That felt good though,” you sigh, secretly thankful for that. It’s hard to get payback on him sometimes.
“Yeah well he’s a piece of shit, better never visit with him or there might be a problem.”
“Sukuna you’ve known me for two days,” you chuckle.
“So? You’ve been the nicest person to me in this stupid neighborhood, I haven’t and won't forget that.”
You both continue walking in silence, passing a few neighbors who give you a confused look. Suddenly you hear a car behind you, realizing it’s a police car with the lights on. What the fuck.
The officer gets out and approaches the both of you.
“Good evening, got a call about a young girl being followed by a suspicious man, looks like you two.”
What? Someone called the cops on Sukuna for walking with you?
“There must be a misunderstanding, I’m just walking my dog with my neighbor,” you reply.
“Can I see your identification sir?” he turns his attention to Sukuna.
“Look man I’m not doing anything wrong-“
“ID. Now, don’t argue with me boy.”
Sukuna fishes his wallet out, handing the cop his license.
“Mam do you know he has a record and a suspended license? Is he giving you any trouble?”
You are starting to get irritated, Sukuna did nothing wrong, literally just existing.
“I do know, and no he’s not giving me trouble. I just wanted company walking my dog since it’s starting to get dark.”
The cop looks between you both, brow furrowing in confusion.
“With all due respect sir, aren’t there bigger issues in the community than a guy walking down the street?” you state.
“Watch your mouth,” the cop retorts in anger. “If he tries anything, just give us a call. Be careful and have a good night.”
You both watch as the car hits an illegal U-turn and speeds back towards the main road.
“That was brilliant,” Sukuna smiles at you.
“It was also stupid, shouldn’t be talking to shit to a cop,” you laugh. “It was just bothering me how they’re obsessing over you when there are bigger issues in the world. You literally can’t drive, but now walking is illegal? Just pisses me off,” you scoff with irritation.
“Facts,” Sukuna agrees, “if people wanna buy drugs, that’s their choice. If they don’t get it from me, they’ll get it some other way.”
While you don’t love the whole drug dealer thing, he does have a point.
You continue your walk without any more incidents, laughing and joking the entire time. Sukuna is quite charming and charismatic, you're starting to realize. Not in a bad way though, he appears to have a genuine kindness about him and despite his questionable actions, seems like a decent person.
“I’m having people over tonight, you’re welcome to come by if you’d want,” he says as he walks you to your door. It’s almost dark now, the front porch light bathing you both in a soft yellow hue.
“I appreciate the offer, but I’ll pass,” you answer. You really aren’t interested in getting involved with all that, also not nearly social enough to go up in a place where you barely know one person. Plus you probably have to do damage control with Cam.
“Sounds good, I’ll see you tomorrow then,” Sukuna smirks at you, running his hand through his unruly pink locks.
“Have a good night, be careful,” you joke and he just snickers in return, rolling his eyes.
He turns to walk back up the driveway as you lock up for the night.

Note
i need you to do a deltarune yellow interpretation. I have seen NOONE do anyhting that would do it justice. PLEASE
Gosh, that's extremely high praise! A lot of this art is super old, but I might as well post what I had done for this concept! Lots of rambling below!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In this version/AU, Hometown is a very small impoverished farming community. Despite the recent struggles of losing many businesses to the larger human city nearby, it's still a close knit community of everyone knowing everyone! The Sunnysides own the biggest farm in the town and are very well known by all the residents - especially after Starlo, the eldest son of the Sunnysides, takes in Clover, a young human who wandered into the Sunnyside crops, disheveled and dirty with barely the clothes on their back. Aside from remembering their name, Clover claims to not remember anything else, such as where they came from or why they seemingly ran away from home.
Tumblr media
Starlo takes Clover in, but Clover is a human in a town full of monsters that they've suddenly been thrusted into, without the history with one another everyone else has. Not only that, Clover's a bit of a troublemaker (at least in appearances), picking fights with bullies and struggling to connect to anyone. The only other monster they've connected with (aside from the Sunnysides) is Martlet, who is a college student in town. She started out as a babysitter looking for extra cash hired by Starlo, until she and Clover began a genuine friendship! They're besties and hang out all the time.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Ignore that god awful Martlet design... I tried to make her resemble Berdly and oh god. Regret.)
Tumblr media
Eventually, Clover stumbles upon the Dark World, and in it, a strange flower darkener who claims to be the prince of the Dark World. Very quickly, the Dark World becomes an escape for Clover. In the Light World, they're a weirdo outcast who has no friends their age. They feel like they only cause problems for everyone, especially Starlo, who has to work twice as hard in order to financially support them. But in the Dark World, they can be a hero, just like all the cool cowboys in their favorite Western films! All the Darkners love them and praise them as a hero, and Clover gets to rescue them from outlaws and save the day. The more time they spend in the Dark World, the less problems they're causing in the Light World, so it's a good thing, right? Flowey and his people need a hero!
(Basically, the Dark World would be a concept that's already established in universe in Chapter 1. This is sort of meant to parallel Starlo's North Star persona in UTY, because you guys know I love my Clover + Starlo parallels.).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Bonus for all my fellow Starlo fans) Most of Starlo's time, when he isn't working at his family's farm, is spent doing part time jobs in order to raise Clover. He works part time at the local diner at the beginning of the story, leaving very little free time for himself or his interests. RIP bozo having to take responsibility (Orion and Starlo's dynamic would be flipped here, as Orion is the one with a lot more freedoms. He's a college student Martlet's age, and is very busy with his studies and extracurricular activities that he isn't home often, meanwhile Starlo is saddled with a ton of work).
The real story would begin when part of the Ketsukane family (freshly divorced, sorry) move back into Hometown after living away in the city. Chujin's ex wife Ceroba moves back into town with their daughter Kanako, who is the same age as Clover. The two... do not get along right away, which only irks Clover as Starlo is particularly close to Kanako. Kanako is instantly popular and well liked among their peers, and she might have some unchecked biases against humans she picked up from their father. Maybe journeying together in the Dark World would help them grow closer...?
Tumblr media
(Again, please forgive this ugly old style. Was trying to go for a superhero theme for Kanako's Dark World design since she's a comic book fan.)
Some other things I didn't have art for
Dalv is the town's librarian! He's also on good terms with Clover, but he's also a bit of a reclusive and doesn't interact with people much.
Chujin was living in Hometown prior to Clover showing up, trying to bounce back from his divorce with his wife (it was on fairly good terms, but still, a massive life change). He claims to work remotely for an important company of some sort, but is secretive about the details. While he's well liked by the town, he's also very outspoken against humans.
Ceroba would also be recovering from the divorce, as she was a housewife her entire time with Chujin, and now needs to find herself as well as a career to support Kanako. She moves back into Hometown in hopes of reconnecting with her old friends and to give Kanako a much calmer school environment.
There have been an influx of missing children reports in the general area around Hometown. Strangely enough, they all seem to be young human children around Clover's age...
Tumblr media
Also these guys in the Dark World..... Eh, I'm sure they're not important in the slightest.

It all started at a Set || KMG Pt.1
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pairing: Actor-Idol Mingyu x Actress-Idol Reader Genre: Fluff, Idol romance Summary: This story is a heartwarming slow-burn romance between Mingyu and Y/N, a senior idol. It begins with them being cast as co-stars in a drama where their contrasting personalities—Mingyu’s vibrant, outgoing nature and Y/N’s reserved, composed demeanor—become the catalyst for an unexpected connection. Throughout their journey, they face professional challenges, emotional conflicts, and growing feelings for one another. Author's Note: This is the second story of my series, "It All Started..." As I was writing, the story evolved into something much bigger than I initially imagined, so I decided to divide it into three parts to give it the attention and depth it deserves. To everyone who has supported my series so far, thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your encouragement and feedback have been a driving force behind my writing, and I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on this part of the story. Stay tuned, because there’s so much more to come, and I promise the journey will only get more exciting from here. Thank you for being part of this adventure with me—I hope you enjoy this chapter as much as I enjoyed creating it!
If you have any requests for any member or any other groups feel free to do so
M.list Part one _ Part two _ Part three
Mingyu wasn’t sure what prompted him to accept the role this time. At first, it seemed like any other offer—another chance to showcase a different side of himself. But something about the script resonated with him on a deeper level.
The character's struggle to balance vulnerability and strength mirrored his own challenges in navigating fame. He felt an unspoken connection to the story, as if it was calling him to confront parts of himself, he had kept hidden.
Perhaps that’s why, despite his initial doubts, he agreed to take the leap. Maybe it was the persistent urging of his members, maybe it was his own curiosity, or maybe, just maybe, it was the script that had managed to tug at something deep within him. Either way, he found himself on the set of "Between Us," his first lead role in a drama, both nervous and excited.
The buzz around the project had been immediate, not just because of Mingyu but because of his co-star. Y/N, a senior idol, had been cast as the female lead. She was a name that carried weight in the industry—the leader of her group, a revered idol with an aura of mystery. Known for her icy demeanor and guarded nature, she seemed to embody mystery and restraint, creating an intriguing contrast to Mingyu’s radiant, extroverted charm. While her reserved nature drew admiration, it also set the stage for a fascinating interplay with Mingyu’s infectious energy, sparking curiosity about how their opposite temperaments might evolve together. It was a pairing that intrigued fans and critics alike.
When they met for the first table read, Mingyu was struck by how composed she was. She greeted him with a polite nod, her expression unreadable. Mingyu, ever the extrovert, tried to break the ice with a joke.
“Looks like we’re going to be spending a lot of time together,” he said, his signature grin in place. “I hope you’re ready for my bad jokes.”
Y/N raised an eyebrow, the faintest hint of a smile playing at her lips. “I’ll brace myself,” she replied coolly before turning her attention to the script.
From that moment on, their interactions were polite but distant. On set, Mingyu would try to engage her in conversation, but Y/N kept her responses short. It wasn’t that she was rude; she just seemed... guarded. Mingyu couldn’t help but be intrigued. What was she hiding behind that composed facade?
As the weeks went by, they began filming scenes that required emotional depth and vulnerability. The plot of "Between Us" revolved around two people who initially clashed but slowly fell in love as they unraveled each other’s secrets. The parallels between the characters and their real-life dynamics didn’t escape Mingyu.
One evening, after a particularly intense scene, Mingyu found Y/N sitting alone by the set, her gaze fixed on the horizon. The sun was setting, casting a warm glow over the scene.
“Hey,” Mingyu said, approaching cautiously. “You okay?”
Y/N glanced at him, her expression softening slightly. “I’m fine. Just... thinking.”
Mingyu sat down beside her, leaving a respectful distance between them. “You were amazing in that scene,” he said sincerely. “I felt like I was watching your character come to life.”
She looked at him, surprise flickering in her eyes. “Thank you. You did well too.”
It was the first time she’d offered him a genuine compliment, and Mingyu felt a small thrill of accomplishment. They sat in silence for a while, watching the sky change colors.
“Do you ever get tired?” Y/N asked suddenly. “Of being... this?”
Mingyu frowned. “What do you mean?”
“Of always being expected to be perfect. To smile, to perform, to never let your guard down,” she explained, her voice barely above a whisper.
Mingyu thought for a moment before replying. “Sometimes. But I think it’s okay to not be perfect. People connect with us because of our flaws, not despite them.”
Y/N looked at him, her expression unreadable once more. But something shifted that day. She began to open up, little by little. Mingyu learned that behind her icy exterior was someone who cared deeply about her members, someone who carried the weight of leadership with grace but also with a heavy heart.
The rest of the cast and crew began to notice the change in their dynamic. During breaks, they often saw Mingyu and Y/N sharing quiet conversations or laughing at inside jokes. One day, a crew member walked in on Mingyu patiently teaching Y/N a card game to pass the time, his enthusiasm contagious as Y/N, known for her reserved nature, playfully accused him of cheating.
“Cheating? Me?” Mingyu feigned shock, placing a hand on his chest. “I’m wounded, Y/N. Truly.”
“Wounded or not, you’re still losing,” Y/N shot back with a rare grin.
Another time, during a particularly chilly outdoor shoot, a makeup artist caught Mingyu draping his jacket over Y/N’s shoulders without a word, brushing off her protests with a casual, “You’ll catch a cold.”
The director, amused by their growing rapport, once joked, “If you two don’t win Best Couple at the year-end awards, I’ll be writing to the network myself.”
Even the extras started to notice their synergy, with one commenting during lunch, “Their chemistry isn’t just acting—it’s real.” Mingyu’s consistent warmth and Y/N’s subtle but significant thawing became a favorite topic of conversation among the crew, adding a special layer of excitement to the production. The once distant co-stars were now sharing inside jokes, supporting each other through difficult scenes, and even eating meals together during breaks. Mingyu’s patience and warmth had managed to crack Y/N’s walls, and she, in turn, became a grounding presence for him.
The turning point came during a particularly grueling shoot. It was a night scene set in the rain, with both leads expected to deliver emotionally charged performances. As Y/N sprinted down the wet pavement for a pivotal chase sequence, her ankle twisted, sending her collapsing onto the ground mid-scene. The crew froze, and for a moment, the only sound was the rain hammering down. Mingyu, standing nearby, dropped his prop and sprinted to her side.
“Cut!” the director shouted, but Mingyu was already kneeling beside Y/N, his voice tinged with panic. “Are you okay? Does it hurt a lot?”
Y/N tried to sit up, brushing off the mud on her hands. “I’m fine,” she said through gritted teeth, though the pain was evident in her eyes.
“No, you’re not,” Mingyu said firmly, his worry overriding his usual easygoing demeanor. He gestured for the on-set medic, his brows furrowed in concern. “You need to rest. This isn’t something to push through.”
Despite her protests, Mingyu carefully helped her to a nearby chair, his hand steady on her arm. His genuine concern was clear, and the crew exchanged knowing glances, murmuring about how protective he had become of her. In that moment, something shifted—not just between their characters, but in their real relationship as well.
The injury had forced Y/N to take it slow, and Mingyu took it upon himself to help her. He’d show up to set early to make sure the path was clear for her crutches, brought her snacks during breaks, and even offered to rehearse lines with her to save her unnecessary movement.
“You’re going to spoil me,” Y/N said one day, watching as Mingyu carefully adjusted her chair.
“Maybe,” Mingyu replied with a grin. “But I don’t mind.”
As “Between us” progressed, the romantic tension between Mingyu and Y/N on-screen began to mirror their growing connection off-screen. Their characters, who started out as strangers, gradually developed a deep emotional bond, with Mingyu’s warmth gradually melting Y/N’s cool exterior.
One evening, during a late-night shoot, the scene called for a quiet, intimate moment at the café. Mingyu’s character, Jae-min, had just confessed his feelings to Y/N’s character, Seo-yeon. The air was thick with tension as their eyes met, both characters hesitant yet longing.
“Are you sure you want this?” Jae-min asked, his voice barely above a whisper, as he reached out to gently touch Seo-yeon’s hand.
Y/N, as Seo-yeon, looked at him, her expression unreadable, before slowly nodding. “I don’t know, but I’m willing to try.”
In the next moment, Jae-min leaned in and kissed her softly on the lips, a gentle but tender kiss filled with the promise of something new. The director yelled “Cut!” immediately after the kiss, but both actors were left momentarily frozen, caught in the vulnerability of the moment.
Mingyu quickly stepped back, awkwardly scratching his head. “Uh, sorry, was that too much?”
Y/N, for the first time in a while, let out a soft laugh, something that startled Mingyu. “No, it was good,” she said quietly, her cheeks flushed. “You just… surprised me, I guess.”
That night, as they wrapped up filming, Mingyu couldn’t stop thinking about how natural the kiss had felt—how it wasn’t just an act but something real that he had experienced with her. Y/N, despite her usually cool demeanor, had shown a glimmer of warmth, and it left Mingyu wondering if the lines between their characters were blurring.
The next scene that stood out was a pivotal moment in the drama, where Jae-min (Mingyu’s character) confesses his love for Seo-yeon (Y/N’s character) during a stormy night. They were supposed to be alone in the café, the rain tapping against the window as Jae-min, drenched from the downpour, walked in to find Seo-yeon sitting by the window, gazing out at the rain.
“Seo-yeon,” Jae-min said, his voice shaking with emotion. “I’ve loved you from the moment I saw you. You’re the only one who sees me for who I really am.”
Seo-yeon turned to him, her eyes softening but still guarded. “But you know I’m not the person you think I am, right?”
The tension in the room was palpable as Jae-min walked toward her, his every step determined. “I don’t care,” he whispered, his face inches from hers. “I love you.”
The kiss that followed was more passionate, a moment of release for both characters. The scene was so intense that even the crew stayed silent as they filmed. When the director yelled “Cut,” both Mingyu and Y/N stood frozen in their positions, the chemistry between them undeniable.
During a break, Y/N walked off to the side, away from the set, clearly trying to collect herself after the emotional intensity of the kiss. Mingyu, sensing her discomfort, followed her quietly.
“Are you okay?” Mingyu asked softly, standing a few feet away.
Y/N paused, looking at him for a moment before nodding. “Yeah, just… it’s a lot sometimes, you know?” She shrugged. “This role is… difficult for me.”
Mingyu gave her a gentle smile. “You’re doing amazing. I can tell. I know acting can be hard, but you make it look effortless.”
Y/N looked at him, her walls slowly starting to crack. “Thanks, Mingyu,” she said quietly, her tone sincere.
As she turned back to the set, Mingyu watched her, his heart unexpectedly racing. They might have started out as strangers, but something was beginning to stir between them, something neither of them had anticipated.
One of the final scenes in the drama was another intimate moment between Jae-min and Seo-yeon. The two characters had gone through their fair share of struggles, and in this scene, they finally gave in to their feelings for one another. The script called for a tender, lingering kiss under the moonlight, where Jae-min pulls Seo-yeon into his arms as they both acknowledge their deep connection.
As the cameras rolled, the chemistry between Mingyu and Y/N was undeniable. The kiss was gentle at first, with both characters hesitant, but as the scene progressed, their passion deepened. Their lips met in a slow, sweet kiss that was both vulnerable and full of longing, capturing the emotional weight of everything their characters had been through.
When the director finally called “Cut,” the entire set seemed to hold its breath. Y/N, who had usually kept a distance from Mingyu, seemed to soften in his arms, the connection between them palpable even off-camera.
During the next break, Mingyu found himself sitting next to Y/N, who had become noticeably more relaxed around him since their first interactions. They were both exhausted from the intense filming, but the mood between them was no longer cold.
“I didn’t know acting could be like this,” Mingyu admitted, his voice low. “It’s… more than just saying lines. It feels real.”
Y/N looked at him thoughtfully. “Yeah, it’s like… you let yourself be vulnerable for a moment.” She paused, then added, “You’re a good actor, Mingyu.”
Her words caught him off guard. He smiled, not able to hide his feelings anymore. “Thank you. That means a lot coming from you.”
There was a comfortable silence between them, and for the first time, Mingyu felt a genuine sense of connection to Y/N—not just as his co-star, but as someone who understood the depth of their roles and the emotions they had shared through their characters.
One memorable day, they filmed a scene where their characters shared their first kiss under a canopy of stars. The setup was breathtaking—fairy lights hanging from the trees, a gentle breeze rustling the leaves, and the soft strumming of a guitar playing in the background.
Between takes, Mingyu leaned over with a grin. “They really went all out for this, huh?”
Y/N glanced around, her lips twitching into a rare smile. “It’s beautiful. Almost makes you forget we’ve been here for hours.”
The scene required them to hold hands, exchange lingering gazes, and lean into a kiss that felt as natural as breathing. When the director finally called, “Cut!” he looked up from the monitor and clapped. “That was perfect! The chemistry was off the charts.”
Another day, they filmed a playful sequence where their characters spent an afternoon at a seaside carnival. From riding the Ferris wheel to playing ring toss, the scenes were filled with laughter and lighthearted moments. While filming a shot where Mingyu’s character won a giant stuffed bear for Y/N’s character, he jokingly handed it to her and said, “This is the closest you’ll get to me spoiling you in real life.”
Y/N rolled her eyes but couldn’t hide her smile. “I’ll cherish it forever,” she quipped, hugging the bear dramatically.
The most challenging yet rewarding scene to film came toward the end of the drama, where their characters finally confessed their feelings after a heated argument. The emotions ran high, and even the crew found themselves holding their breath as Mingyu and Y/N brought the raw vulnerability of their characters to life. By the time the director called cut, there was a moment of stunned silence before the set erupted into applause.
“You really outdid yourselves,” the director said, visibly moved. “This is the kind of performance that stays with people.”
Through these scenes, their bond grew stronger. Whether it was the stolen glances that felt too real or the way they naturally gravitated toward each other during breaks, it was clear to everyone that something special was blooming between them.
