Hello gang, ngl this is very all over the place I fear, hardly proofread and maybe a lil confusing, generally not my best lol. Silly dumb lil thing about my favorite homoerotic coded old men though cause I <3 them severely.

Celebrations of any kind, whether big or small, were few and far between. There simply wasn’t time to dwell on things for too long, came with the territory of the job.

So when the Ghosts did have downtime to celebrate a win, they took it.

A successful recon and intel mission near the border of No Man’s Land awarded the team with boatloads of info on Federation security and weapons distribution, along a base that they’d planned to give a bit of…reconstruction to. They had an in, and got out, too.

Once back on their home turf, the men yearned to relax and rejuvenate for as long as they could before duty called again. Elias mentioning something about boosting morale after the grueling mission, to which Rorke could only concede.

Not that he historically had a particularly hard time giving in to his lieutenant, that is.

They all settled into a sparsely filled common room on base. A worn in leather couch lining the wall, with a table and a few squeaky desk chairs around its edges. A matching and peeling leather chair shoved in the corner. A small, dusty kitchenette that clearly wasn’t used very often, and a few lamps that provided enough light. It wasn’t much, but they didn’t need much.

Keegan and Ajax supplied some beers from god knows where on base. Nobody asked, even when the men that slurped them down could tell they’d definitely been anything but refrigerated for a while.

Torch had an old pack of playing cards lying around his quarters which piqued enough interest among the men, and Merrick, to the shock of absolutely no one, drug out a bottle of whiskey for their little occasion.

Neptune planted himself in the corner chair and ignored the groans of everyone when he lit a cigarette inside, except Kick, who was too busy reveling in the fact that he found an expired pack of Oreos in the kitchenette drawer.

Some of the men huddled around the old table and squeaked around in their chairs, while Torch and Grim argued over the rules of poker for a few minutes. Rorke seemed as intrigued with the whiskey that Merrick had supplied as Keegan was, who abandoned his beer to Ajax to take a shot of the smooth liquid himself.

Elias could only grin as he relaxed into the beat up couch, a drinking game already at play between a few of the soldiers. Although it was hard to tell where the game started and where the need to just get a little tipsy ended.

From afar, Elias watched his Captain. Watched the way his adams apple bobbed when he took a shot of the potent liquor. The way his thick arms crossed and folded to lean over Torch’s shoulder and insist how real men play poker, whispering something that made the younger man chuckle and made Ajax beg to be let in on the joke. His eyes followed the way the man’s chest grumbled in a chuckle when Kick insisted the best way to play was actually strip poker, the cheeky bastard earning a silent slap on the back of the neck from Keegan.

He didn’t usually have time to really look at the man. The greying soldier far too busy watching him bark out commands all day and then following them. Who was the real dog, if not Elias? Rorke barked and damn near bared his teeth during battle, but Elias followed him around endlessly. His lieutenant, second in command, right hand man and comrade. His dog, if there ever was one. To the ends of the earth, he’d follow him.

But he didn’t get to observe his Captain in a setting like this very often, no. Relaxed and at ease as the man came strutting over loosely to the very couch he was already sunken into. Three shots in, and Rorke was still hardly able to even be classified as tipsy, too large and brutish to be swayed very much. But just enough to perk up his snarky attitude and turn it into a near playful one.

He sat down next to Elias, thick thighs spreading out on instinct. Knocking a knee against his lieutenants with a chuckle, head nodding to the group of soldiers playing poker, or maybe it was black jack, at the table ahead.

“C’mon Walker, you always have been a decent card player, join em” the older man would grin as he looked over at Elias, donning that signature smirk that always made his heart beat out of pace for a moment, despite having known his Captain for so long. Despite being able to map out the lines and scars on his face as if that were his real job here.

He chuckled loosely, shaking his head as he sipped down the stale tasting beer that Ajax had nearly shoved in his hand earlier, insisting that the old man relax a bit too.

Rorke chuckled back, deep and carrying that air of confidence that seemed to follow him everywhere, as his eyes lingered on Elias’ lips around the can for a beat too long. They made a few seconds of that eye contact, that precious, knowing look being shared. I’d stare all day long, if I could.

It made Elias’ heart do that thing again, the one that he’d started to write off as older age catching up to him. A heart palpitation here and there wasn’t a bad thing, he reckoned.

Everyone was engrossed with the game at the table, including Neptune who was on his second cigarette in the near corner, and Kick, who’s energy seemed to only multiple upon eating that sleeve of too soft Oreos that had him bouncing back and forth between leaning against the kitchenette and hovering over Grims shoulder to watch the game.

Elias knew well enough that with their slight distance from the group across the room, and the whiskey coursing through Rorkes veins, that they’d fall into that old song and dance again for a bit.

The one where all the unspoken words came bubbling to the surface, but apparently never enough to crack through.

“Ya did good on that op, brother…Merrick and I might not have made it out had you not been roundin the corner…” Rorkes voice was quieter now, but not soft, perhaps distanced. It rumbled out of his throat all the same, tinged with a meaning that only Elias could read through the cracks of.

You’re a good soldier, Lieutenant, never could get your head outta my ass for very long, Elias could almost hear the words that really threatened to spill from his mouth.

“You and Merrick could find your way out of a labyrinth, hardly needed an assist” he countered as he nursed his beer, not quite a retort yet.

You know damn well you’re just talking to fill the silence, you two had that in the bag, Rorke could similarly hear what Elias was really getting at, just too stubborn to ever take an opportunity to admit it.

Rorke chuckled and gave a short nod, knee still pressed against his Lieutenants on the beat up little couch they sat on. The game raved on in the middle of the room, Keegan not very surprisingly having the best poker face among the group, only Torch’s coming close to rivaling it.

“You know what I mean” Rorke settled for with a sigh that was too casual, legs spreading on the couch a bit more as he settled in. He didn’t miss the way Elias’ eyes roamed over his legs, not missing a beat with his comeback, though.

“Always have” he nodded, the silent tension between them strung out like an electrical wiring, making the liquor in Rorkes blood feel more like molten lava, heating his core up more than necessary. He wondered vaguely if Elias could ever cool him down, whatever that really meant.

They spoke and read between one another’s lines perfectly, familiarly. Hearts clawing for more while their brains simultaneously agreed that breaking the professional line would muck it all up far too much for either of their liking.

It was too convenient for the both of them. Elias could pretend that things stayed the way they were because he could never speak to his Captain the way he might actually want to. And Rorke could pretend that nothing changed because nothing could change. He wouldn’t admit any sort of feelings for a subordinate, for his Lieutenant, because that’s too far out of line. They’re too busy for that.

They both hid under the guise of rank and the ever demanding job being the stake in the road, keeping their misplaced glances and touches at bay with a simple, unspoken reminder that Elias needs to stay in his place, and that it’s Rorke’s job to keep him there.

They both knew, however. That the feeling wasn’t one of comradeship, much as they both liked to dance around it in their heads as well. They were in a room filled to the brim with their fellow soldiers. Their fellow men, their brothers whom they’d go to hell and back for again without question.

And as much as Elias knew that he damn near worshipped his Captain, he also couldn’t bring himself to admit an existence beyond being a windowed husband, a single father. Rorke wasn’t anything to him that could be defined out of the dictionary, he just was.

Perhaps Rorke was the more realistic of the two, his image of Elias taking more shape within his imagination. His right hand, his loyal lieutenant, someone he couldn’t bear to go without whether on the field or not. A man that Rorke knew would do absolutely anything for him, if only he’d ask. His worshipper. He didn’t want it to inflate his ego but it did. Because truthfully, there was no one Rorke looked up to more than Elias, rank be damned.

Elias’ devotion kept him awake at night. Clawing at his chest like a beast, desperate to pry open his ribcage and tear apart the chambers of his heart. He knew the only person, the only thing more important to Elias than him was the man’s sons.

He loved the boys by proxy through everything Elias would tell him. He distantly wondered if there would ever be a time where he could meet them. Meet the kids that kept his lieutenants world spinning, despite the way it was constantly crashing and crumbling around them.

They sat in silence for a while as the boys played their poker and drank their beers. Neither of them could keep track of how many games had been played at this point. Rorke was just content his men were getting some much needed down time, despite the one nagging at his side, even in the man’s silence somehow.

“Good idea you had, morale seems to be boosted” Rorke would speak up again after the tension had settled a bit, nudging Elias with an elbow, flashing him that grin that he swore Elias would mirror subconsciously sometimes. As if his will were not his own, too swayed by the older man’s gruff charm.

“Much needed” Elias would agree, giving a nod and continuing to sip on the beer that he wasn’t too sure he even wanted anymore. Rorke raised an eyebrow at the man, unable to wipe the smirk off his face as he shamelessly let his eyes roam over the man’s features.

Elias met his eyes, and cocked his own brow. He could feel his Captains gaze burning through him, that look in his eyes that he’d seen before. Rarely, but recognizable to him from somewhere.

“Is your morale boosted, Lieutenant?” Ah, that was the look. The one he donned before he got a little mouthy. Before he let that carefully constructed wall built between the two of them crumble for a moment. If not just to see what would happen before he patches it right back up.

Elias blinked for a moment, before huffing an almost unamused laugh. He wasn’t sure how he wanted to play this game, very aware that despite everyone being more than occupied, they were still in a room full of keen and curious men. Some who could also read between their lines sometimes.

“For now” the man replied smoothly, the knee still pressed to his Captains deciding to press a bit closer, earning him another cock of Rorkes eyebrow. An almost surprised one.

“For now?” Rorke echoed back with a hint of amusement, letting Elias press his knee closer. Letting him test the waters that they both knew he ultimately controlled.

The greying man simply hummed in agreement, gaze flickering back between the rowdy soldiers at the makeshift poker table and the brown eyes that threatened to burn through his own. A silent reminder that neither of them needed. We aren’t alone.

They danced on this line for a minute, wondering who should speak next. If either of them had the misplaced confidence to take the moment and stretch it out even more thin.

“By all means, Eli, if there’s something you need to keep your confidence up…” he was toying with the man now, getting personal. Dangling something in front of him that Elias would never really be granted. And the lieutenant wasn’t sure what to do with that, had he ever been this forward? Despite knowing it was all in vain anyway?

“Don’t start, Gabe” he retorted, lips stretching thin and unamused, the glare in his eyes usually reserved for his misbehaving boys. And the whiskey still swirling in Rorkes blood only enabled his boldness, grinning at Elias’ displeasure.

“Still wound up, ain’t’cha?” He’d grin at his lieutenant again, not so subtly licking over his bottom lip. It made Elias heart stop for a moment, he was sure, if not for the sole fact that this was more brave than Rorke had ever been with him. He felt like a dog being fed scraps, his Captain toying with him whenever he felt like it, yanking his chain just enough to rip it out from under him at the end.

Elias’ nostrils flared. Maybe it was the shitty beer he’d drank, combined with the exhaustion from the mission and the noise of the other seven men playing god knows what with those cards, but his response only stoked a fire within him. An annoyance that was slowly increasing. A need climbing up his spine, threatening to curl around his neck like a noose.

“Wonder why” he kept it short again, similar to the leash he knew Rorke was still tethering him to. It made his fingers curl around his beer can, nail beds turning white as he made eye contact with his Captain again, seeing a look flare in his eyes, his breathing deepen just a bit.

The tense moment was broken as Keegan’s grumbling voice sounded out, announcing he was hitting the sack for the night, much to Kick and Ajax’s displeasure. He gave Rorke a nod, briefly glancing at his Lieutenant sat next to him. Not missing the tension that lingered between the two.

Elias took the moment to agree with the younger man, setting his can down and standing up from the couch.

“Now Keegan I expected, but you too, Lieutenant? Didn’t even play a round!” Kick replied, flashing his charming little grin toward Elias from across the room.

Elias gave him a smile, waving him off as he stretched his arms out, no doubt shaking off said tension that’d started to prickle at his skin like needles. He tossed his beer can and headed toward the door.

“Get some good shut eye, Lieutenant, that’s an order…or I’ll come a knockin” Rorke muttered loud enough for Elias to hear, making the man pause momentarily to look back, eyes locking once more on that shit eating little grin plastered on his Captains face.

He didn’t know what that meant. He wasn’t sure how serious Rorke was being. What that would entail, but he briefly wondered if he should ignore his exhaustion long enough to find out.

Elias eyes met with his, and Rorke saw it again. The flame that drew him back to his Lieutenant time and time again. The fire he wanted to stoke, yet snuff out at the same time.

“Yes, sir”

their personalities were the complete opposite of their callsigns; torch was quiet and reserved, extremely off-putting while grim was more social and didn't shut up

grim gave the vibes of that one uncle who pays you 20bucks to say the f word in front of your dad

it was common amongst the ghosts that grim and kick would be leading the daily "bullshit" rants

grim was MARSOC before viper. torch was a SEAL pilot

grim got along best with ajax and keegan bc the marines STICK TOGETHER. OORAH. but he always made it his mission to annoy the absolute FUCK out of the neptune and torch (who were the brooding pilots)

torch and merrick actually got along the best. being SEALs n all

grim was corpsmen certified while torch ACTUALLY WAS a corpsman

torch had so many qualifications under his belt the rest of the ghosts wondered how tf he did it

torch was actually their exfil and chopper guy. his plane was shot down when he tried to reach ajax (the mission that got ajax captured)

grim was doing recon in fed territory but rorke had already had a hit on him so.. yeah. (lets just say grim got the worst treatment)

New Wild Kratts Special

Season 7 of Wild Kratts continues on into 2025. According to the Kratt Brothers, 6 new episodes are currently in development, including an hour-long TV movie. Although Martin Kratt said that the 200th episode would air this season, several other sources report that the season will end with 20 episodes. Which indicates that we're halfway finished with Season 7. And given how the modern seasons take 2 years to finish, the final 9 episodes of the season will most likely be released this year.

The second half of Season 7 will premiere in April of 2025. The one-hour special is the only episode on TV listings that has a title and synopsis, so we will focus on it here.

Wild Kratts: Activate Kid Power - Parts 1 & 2 - Airing Monday, April 7th, 2025

When the Wild Kratts receive an overload of calls for creature rescues, their creature power capacity fails. The team is left helpless, but soon learn that by the working with Wild Kratts Kids that Kid Power is perhaps the most amazing and effective creature power of all!

Pre-Episode Thoughts + Predictions:

Back in August, the Kratt Brothers had a Creature Heroes Foundation event in which people could send videos or pictures of them helping out animals which could potentially be used in a new special (my lazy ass didn't find the time to do this FUCK). This is definitely that special they were building up to. It's very meta, but also incredibly sweet.

Ok but I have literally been in love with this episode's concept. I always thought the idea of the Wild Kratts working with the Wild Kratts Kids would have the perfect formula for a series finale where they retire and pass on the torch to those who have learned from them over the years, and it would've been a great plot for the movie. Even though this episode isn't the series finale, it's still great that the series proper is utilizing it. Once again, Season 7 is trying a lot of interesting ideas, especially character-driven ones that feel the most appropriate.

Chris and Martin teased at grizzly bears and sea turtles appearing in the special. Initially I wasn't excited because we've seen those animals before, but knowing the main synopsis of the episode I'm now excited. It could be in similar vein to No Name Dream where we see familiar animals, but they are largely the backdrop to character-plots. Again, really nice.

Whilst I'm glad that we're getting an episode on the Wild Kratts Kids, I can't help but still feel sad. Because again, most of the WK Kids from the earlier seasons (Gavin, Ronan, Aiden, Nolan, Ellie, ect.) wouldn't be able to return with speaking noises because their actors are all grown up. So will the show age them up so that we can see them as secondary characters again? Or will they recast them with younger actors? Or will they once again be be relagated to cameos? I'm hoping that it's the first option, because it would be a really bold move for the show to do, especially in a season that they are hyping up so much.

I'm 99% positive that Paisley Paver will appear in this special. Again, I don't mind the fact that she's not a series regular after her redemption (in fact, I'm glad because it would be really distracting). But still, Our Blue and Green World was the biggest episode of the season and solely because of her redemption. And the writers have admitted to committing to this change for the rest of the series. To not follow up on it, with so much of her character to explore, and especially when we're nearing the end of the season is a crime. For this episode's plot specifically, I hope we get scenes of her helping the Wild Kratts Kids/receiving their help, and attempting to earn their trust after previously threatening their animal friends. Seeing as we've never seen the Kids interacting with/reporting Paisley ever since her introduction, it would be so interesting.

As an add-on to that last point, since pretty much all of the one-hour specials nowadays have villains in them, that means that Zach, Donita, and Gourmand will appear here right? Initially I wanted the specials this season to not have villains, but with how the direction of the show has gone in regards to Paisley's character, I'm actually hoping that they do appear and face off against Paisley. Maybe the Wild Kratts Kids come to her rescue, or better yet, the villains go after the kids, but Paisley is able to hold them off long enough for them to get somewhere safe. And maybe we could finally get our long-awaited Rex-demption arc. I don't think this could happen because it would be too much to cram into a 47 minute episode, but it seems like the perfect place to wrap up that storyline.

Will the Wild Kratts Kids get their own Creature Power Suits? I feel as though "Kid Power" will be more metaphorical than literal, but I really hope that is the case. Even though I like the idea of the WK Kids having their own Creature Power Suits, it would cheapen the lesson given that anyone in their own backyard can make a difference for the Creature World. Plus, I feel like any supporting character like say, Gavin or Paisley activating a Creature Power before Jimmy just feels wrong (once again, hoping that he activates a CPS before the end of the season).

Finally... I really hope there's not a musical number in this special. With the exception of the Blue/Green special, every single one of the musical numbers in the one-hour holiday specials have been complete ass because the actors do not have a good singing range, nor are they directed to do so, and the only one of them who is a known singer (Zachary Bennett) is somehow never called in for a professional villains' song.

Those are all of my thoughts for now. Expect the promos to arrive either at the end of this month or the start of next month.

peoplw usually compare jimmy olsen and rick jones, any thoughts on them?

I think the dichotomy between them is kind of fascinating in that when you actually take a step back they don't really resemble each other at all.

Jimmy Olsen, in spite of the fact that he first appeared on the Superman radio show, starts out as a fairly conventional "person that gets to hang out with the superhero." They were fairly common in the Golden Age given the "rules" hadn't been nailed down, so you could have a sidekick proper or you could have just some random kid who hangs out with you. Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, and Plastic Man are all part of the latter camp. I think the main reason Superman took a while to get on board is because since Superman is the first superhero "proper", everyone else has the privilege of being able to look at Superman and copy what works and make changes as seen fit.

I've mentioned I'm primarily schooled by Chris Sims on the subject of superheroes, and as such I'm inclined to agree with his sentiment that Jimmy Olsen doesn't become Jimmy Olsen "proper" until he gets his own title, and even then not until the Silver Age, where Jimmy is free to be his own protagonist that is fully allowed to explore and adventure in a world built on convoluted rules surrounding superheroes, but at the same time he's the "apex" of the Silver Age because he doesn't have to deal with any setbacks or tragedies.

Quick aside that it is criminal that DC hasn't collected his solo series in color.

Anyhow, Jimmy is kind of defined by the fact that the Silver Age has all these weird arbitrary rules, one by virtue of the fact that superhero comics are superhero comics, two that the Comics Code Authority was among the most ridiculously strict censorship guidelines in modern fiction, and that's where he thrived. When Jack Kirby eventually comes along to do a brief run to explore some concepts that will filter into the other New Gods books, Jimmy is done with. He can never go back. Jimmy obviously is still around as a major Superman supporting character, but Jimmy "proper" doesn't have much room to exist in the context of superheroes grappling with the concept of "realism" since 1970.

Rick Jones on the other hand is an entirely different beast. As far as the superhero boom at DC in the Silver Age goes, yeah, The Flash and Aquaman got sidekicks, and Green Lantern and the Justice League as a whole got the kids who just hang out. Marvel (read: Jack Kirby et al.) never really went back to doing sidekicks if only because a combination of The Human Torch, Spider-Man, and The X-Men all showed that teenagers could function as the lead sans any adult authority figure shouldering a lot of the work. Rick Jones is the closest to the kid who gets to hang out, but only in the most surface level reading a guy who is almost killed in a gamma bomb test, owes Bruce Banner a life debt, and has to bare the responsibility of defending Bruce whilst also dealing with uncontrollable anger and strength of The Hulk. Rick almost immediately does some bizarre pivots in being the kid who gets to hang out with The Avengers, but it's still in the context of defending The Hulk and having to deal with Captain America's trauma over losing Bucky. Rick does sort of become the guy who gets to hang out with everyone in the Marvel universe that You Don't Really Care About (he never had a presence in Spider-Man or X-Men, for context), so I can't really comment on his status there as he flies in and out of titles in his supporting role.

White House counterterror czar Sebastian Gorka said today that Americans who are not on board with the Trump administration’s immigration policy are “on the side of terrorists." “It's really quite that simple,” Gorka said in a little-noticed interview with Newsmax. “We have people who love America, like the president, like his cabinet, like the directors of his agencies, who want to protect Americans. And then there is the other side, that is on the side of the cartel members, on the side of the illegal aliens, on the side of the terrorists.” He didn’t stop there, going on to say this is tantamount to “aiding and abetting” — which he called a crime under federal law. “And you have to ask yourself, are they technically aiding and abetting them?” Gorka continued. “Because aiding and abetting criminals and terrorists is a crime in federal statute.” Wingnut as his theory may sound, Gorka is not some marginal figure. As Senior Director for Counterterrorism in the White House and Deputy Assistant to President Trump, he’s currently leading the effort to produce a new national strategy for countering domestic terrorism, as I reported last week.  

So could Gorka’s intensely partisan worldview be turned into government practice?

Well, the Trump administration has already taken the unprecedented step of formally designating a variety of “transnational criminal organizations,” gangs and drug cartels as foreign terrorist organizations. With that in place, all the administration would have to do to turn Gorka’s rhetoric into reality would be to claim that critics of Trump’s immigration and deportation policies are providing them with “material support.” Though this felony crime was intended originally to prosecute direct financial and other overt forms of support for al Qaeda, the concept grew to include supposed “crimes” like providing legal counsel. (See Holder v. Humanitarian Law Project, which was soundly criticized for being an FBI backdoor to entrap non-criminals.) All of this is taking place as numerous Democratic members of Congress have expressed support for one such alleged “terrorist” — former Maryland resident Kilmer Ábrego García — whom the Trump administration asserts (without proof) was a member of MS-13. Senator Chris Van Hollen of Maryland this morning even traveled to El Salvador, where Ábrego García was deported, in an attempt to meet with him after expressing opposition to his removal. Could Van Hollen’s mission and protests on behalf of others be spun into charges of providing material support for terrorism? Gorka seems to think so.  “It's quite telling that we have Democrats on Capitol Hill, not just the lunatics who are torching Tesla dealerships in acts of terrorism themselves, saying, ‘Oh my gosh, the rights of this individual!’” Gorka says of García. “You mean the terrorist who came here illegally?”  From Tesla vandals and now Democratic members of Congress, the Trump administration seems intent on casting a wider and wider net in its new domestic war on terrorism. While the media’s focus is understandably on migrants and deportees, Americans are increasingly coming into the crosshairs. Donald Trump has even mused about giving American citizens the El Salvador treatment.  And despite what you might hear in the mainstream, there are plenty of federal law enforcement people who think like Gorka, including in the FBI and the counterterrorism community. I know because I talk to some of them! They’re just waiting for the green light.

Am I the only person who thinks Amber Heard would make a fantastic Wonder Woman too?

She's got that "classical beauty" look (she was determined to have one of the world's most beautiful faces according to the "golden ratio" used by the Ancient Greeks, though obviously this is a culturally subjective standard of beauty).

A short-hand descriptor of Diana's character might be "compassionate warrior". Amber Heard is noted both for her fierceness, and for her activism. Many who have met her or worked with her noted how kind she was.

She worked as a representative of the UN for a time. Wonder Woman, of course, is a diplomat and ambassador.

She has experience in action roles and with DC specifically.

She and Diana are both queer women.

One of Wonder Woman's powers is exposing liars (the lasso of truth).

I honestly feel like Amber would barely have to even act- she could just walk into the studio and be her best self. And yeah, she's already played a DC character- but if Chris Evans can be both the Human Torch and Captain America, and Ryan Reynolds can be both Green Lantern and Deadpool, then why not?

She also looks great as a brunette:

Of course DC/WB treated her awfully, and would likely not cast her in the future. But that's simply studio fuckery, not an actual reason why she'd be unsuited to the role.

My only real objection is that I'd kind of like to see Diana played by someone of Ossetian heritage (per Wikipedia, the ethnic group most closely-related to the ancient Sarmatians, who's female warriors likely inspired tales of Amazons). But then, the DC Amazons have only the most tangential connections to actual history to begin with, and are also portrayed as a multi-ethnic society.

My Main Ships (in the AU)

Figure I’ll list the ships in my AU. Some of them are what the tender youth would call ““problematic.”” I see them as ‘compelling’, ‘having actual stakes,’ and having challenging conflicts beyond ‘will they love meee in this coffeeshop?’. Many of these people canon and OC have been with this AU since its inception and serve up the many themes found in it. Yes, some of them overlap as I'm team let people grow and have experiences/multiship. Nemesis/Jill The bread and butter of this AU. Full of complication as to why each proceeded with *dramatic handwave* this. A lot of unhealthy coping with their mutual and separate traumas (other than you know that whole trying to kill each other biz). Also, fun toying with that human/monster divide and how intimacy is wildly different between the other in monstrous ways. Is by far the most complicated ship. Gets very unsettlingly trippy with that 'mental connection' they have these days. Nemesis/Zeus(OC) I was apparently doing monstery brocon/twincest before it had a name (also lol myth shout out)? In seriousness, this is one of the most toxic ships in the AU because the two essentially are what happens when abuse travels down the line leading to unhealthy copes. It just happens to be between two highly dangerous monsters who both lack the concept of what family much less consent is (or even orientation; neither gets what that is, gender is 'what humans need us to be') while raised in horrible captivity, with one very out of his damn mind. Also noting that this AU doesn't deal in 'perfect' victims. Chris/Sheva A tragic pair that came to be out of Chris cheating on Jill out of loneliness and the distance Jill’s trauma caused. Things resolved where these two became an item (with Jill’s blessing even) but the vibe of Chris settling won't leave Sheva along with the torch for Jill Chris denies is there. He loves Sheva, he truly does, but that feeling for Jill is there, and Sheva, despite it all, hurts from that fact (never mind the guilt of at one time being the other woman). Ada/Carlos The spicy bi panic of two free spirits who know who they are and what they are about. Meeting up by ‘chance’ or rather by ‘plan’ as what are the odds of a spy and a guy for hire meeting up at the same places? They clearly run in similar circles but the attraction and fun of having a good time is there. Funny enough, one of my most healthiest of ships.

Shana(OC)/Jessica(OC) My too wholesome to live lesbian ship. One is a BSAA ‘green’ who after years of taking jobs under the table fighting BOW, can work on the up and up to fund her wife’s MS treatments. Aside from some of Shana’s work history (and the depths she’d go to save her wife), these two are just deeply in love with each other. Bonus round: Not as featured but part of the AU *lore* Brad/Gwen(OC) The secret between them – Brad hooking up with a too young Gwen and ending up with a love child – was what resulted in Brad living in fear of doing more wrong to her and his son, Tomas. Secretly paid money and cared for them at her request as Gwen didn’t want all their lives destroyed. Was it right? No, but this dynamic worked until someone found out using it to blackmail him into leaving Alpha Team behind at Spencer Mansion for hours. Trent(OC)/Gwen(OC) Trent and Gwen found themselves teen parents with the arrival of Tomas (he didn’t know Tomas wasn’t his). Trent was defeated by the prospect of his plans in the military being derailed and turned to drinking. He loved Gwen and Tomas but was prone to flirting when not sober. Gwen, hardworking and from the ‘wrong side the tracks’ sees herself as pragmatic and tried to manage the situation she found herself in with all the foibles of a teen that grew up too fast. Working jobs with a fake ID, she fought for her little family and cared for Trent and Gwen but held resentment to him not being reliable hence her staying out late and drunkenly hooking up with Brad. Tomas was her whole world and would crawl through hell for her son. Trent and Gwen are a hot mess that had Raccoon not happened would have probably either got their shit together or broken up. Ghandon(OC)/Tracey(OC) The put upon Nurse that actually cared for her ‘sons’ the NE-Ts: she read to them, talked to them like ‘people’, was a true ‘parent’ to them, watched as they gained more and more of a personality as the parasites learned. She had to ‘compete’ with Simon Ghandon’s attentions towards them who were not even remotely wholesome, to the point she played into the man’s delusions to gain the boys some respite. It, unfortunately, only worked for so long. Ghandon(OC)/His ‘boys’(OCs + Nemesis) Man with a God Complex + closeted + given complete control over 4 powerful BOW units. What could possibly go wrong? This is the main reason Nemesis has rage issues, control issues, lacks boundaries/has no idea of consent (other than not being human, so it’d been hard to grasp such a human-based concept anyway), and despises humans. Is one of the reasons (next to Nemesis) Zeus has really borked ideas on ‘love.’ This ship bracket is not just toxic, but hellish. Wesker/Jill Started as a side fling (not sexual but sexualized) feeding into Jill’s secret masochist tendencies (because no one was out about such things in the era of DADT and Anita Hill) that turns into a plot to manipulate her actions like with Brad and Barry. He intentionally knew the fallout would cause tension between her and Chris; then 5 happened. Oh boy did RE5 happen. Let’s just say he fucked her up mentally, emotionally and physically and continues to after his ‘death.’ Wesker is to Jill as Ghandon is to Nemesis. Wesker/Excella The Regional Director high on her own supply (and coke and wine) and the manipulative bioterrorist who plays along to get what he wants- what could possibly go wrong? Game playing was afoot, especially with her known jealousy toward the puppet, err Jill.

A totally normal 16 year old girl who's just living her life, going to school, and loving comics, right? Well, this positive and outgoing lass certainly wants that to be the case. But when you can communicate with sea life, can control water, are told you're destined to be queen of Atlantis, and start getting attacked by different kinds of monsters... things get complicated. Claire is the daughter of the Atlantean royal family. However, after she was attacked and scarred by a demon as an infant, she was sent to live on land and had her heritage hidden from her for her own protection. It's not until she's 16 that Claire starts to figure out what she is and her guardian confesses everything. Lucas came out to Kayl and Jerome when he was 9, with a lot of love and support. Now he just wants to get through school and fight creatures of the night with his brother, which is somehow less scary than talking to his crush.
