Can they read and write? How did they get their education?

Francesco Sure can! He's got the equivalent of two degrees (though one is only minor) - money will get you enrolled wherever you need. He was educated at home for the first two years of his education, and then moved on to a high-end private academy that his parents picked out for him.

Keir He was taught by his mother, who was literate and really emphasised the importance of being able to read and write as a young child. He doesn't use those skills much in his day-to-day, though he does make an effort to read every now and then, and does have books that he's nabbed on jobs. But he tends to skim random sections instead of reading cover-to-cover; it's not a major hobby of his.

Oleander He learned from a tutor in a group setting and still has excellent penmanship and high-level reading skills from those days.

Cirrus Yes, he attended one of the rare schools in the underground. Becoming a priest and head of the church means that he has sermons to deliver, letters to write, and more, so he would be terribly disadvantaged if he couldn't.
