i wanted to do my own take on these two really cool characters

Not to get all English Teacher-y here, because genuinely I love that cloak too and was also sad to see it go, but it kind of had to go at some point. (Spoilers ahead)

The cloak was never really his, it was made by his brother, Tyrone just finished it. The whole show, Tyrone was living in his brother's shadow. Everything he did and all of his motivations were in some way related to the loss of his brother.

Him leaving that cloak behind and using his own hoodie is a beautiful piece of visual symbolism for him growing out of his brother's shadow and trying to be his own man with his own goals, values, and motivations, not just a ghost of his brother.

Still, you right tho, I hope at one point (if we ever do get more of this show) that he makes a new one for another important character arc or something. Super Heroes getting new suits typically do symbolize that sort of thing.

Still not over how the show casually got rid off the cloak and never replaced it with anything but a plain hoodie. I was hoping that they will at least use the pieces left to modify the hoodie, since the cloak was so important, but apparently no. It was just discarded.
