Expectations vs. Reality—Scalability vs. Elasticity in Cloud Computing

The concept of scalability vs. elasticity in cloud computing often gets mixed, but the reality hits different! In software product engineering service, both scalability and elasticity are needed.
In any system design, both scalability and elasticity hold a distinct significance. It helps businesses to keep their system intact with the latest features, capabilities, and resources. However, deciding on the right steps is still a basic software product development need. We'll eventually talk about the comparison between scalability vs. elasticity in cloud computing in detail in this blog.
What is Cloud Computing in a System?
Its foundation relies on on-demand delivery of servers, data storage, and systems over the internet for users to access them without owning them. underneath the infrastructure.
Cloud computing is the talk of the time, and capability and elasticity serve as top database solutions for handling high traffic. By knowing the static differences between the system scalability and system elasticity, you can make smarter business decisions about its utilization.
Let's get a quick introduction before diving further into scalability vs. elasticity as a software product engineering service—

System Scalability: An Overview
Scalability within a system refers to a system's core capability to handle increased workloads by optimal resource utilization and without compromising its functional perspectives.
System scalability is more of a long-term strategy; taking the right steps ensures steady business growth. It's one of the two buzzwords in the world of cloud computing, the second being elasticity. People usually expect more from either of these two to be working similarly, but it is to understand for the businesses that these are two different things to get done!
System Elasticity: A Review
In contrast to system scalability, elasticity is something on a different level. Its foundational concept relies on the system's ability to dynamically adjust and manage its resource allocations based on workload fluctuations.
However, system elasticity is a short-term solution for effortless system management. In comparison to system scalability, elasticity serves to very different purposes. By implementing the right elasticity and network optimization strategies for scalable applications, businesses can explore cost-effective system elasticity and adaptability in modern IT infrastructure.
Scalability Vs. Elasticity In Cloud Computing: Expectations & Reality
The expectations and reality differences of scalability and elasticity within a software product engineering service hold their own practical implementations. Here's a detailed breakdown of anticipating and leveraging these two features within a system—
#1: Expectation: “Scalability and Elasticity Are Similar”
Reality:
It's a half-truth that system scalability and elasticity are safe. The reality is that they are closely identical in terms of business implementations. So, being closely related doesn't mean they're identical on every stage and level of the work process.
Scalability within a system is its ability to grow by the addition of more resources. It is about making your business grow eventually with time.
Elasticity is about managing the resource dynamics in real-time based on the system requirements. It's about handling multiple traffic spikes frequently in a shorter time duration.
#2: Expectation: "Scalability alone can handle resources without performance degradation."
Reality:
It's not just about system scalability when it comes to business growth. It's a long-term process that requires many cost-effective measures to operate constantly. If a business will be more predictable, you can make better plans to align with your business goals. Proper scalability requires pre-planning for resource allocation and infrastructure design.
Implementing best practices for a scalable system architecture, like vertical/horizontal scaling, will help you out in such cases. If not done proficiently, it can lead to cost overruns, ultimately making an inefficient system.
#3: Expectation: "Elasticity can achieve fully automated scaling without any workload challenges."
Reality:
Elasticity serves as a top database solution for handling high traffic, but it comes with its automation challenges. For example, if accurate monitoring techniques will not be involved, then elasticity may not be able to potentially optimize complex workloads. It needs cost-efficient auto-scaling rules and regulations to minimize your budget.
Frequent scaling events within a system lead to unexpected bills and cost volatility. Even if you're adopting high-defining techniques like resource provisioning, it may lead to latency, further leading to performance bottlenecks.
#4: Expectation: “Scalability can work automatically as soon as businesses adopt cloud computing.”
Reality:
It's not over when you adopt the cloud computing techniques for the system; actually, the work starts from there. Maintaining a system's scalability requires prompt planning and configuration with budget constraints in mind. Cloud computing, though, makes the scaling possible to a significant extent, but it's not fully automatic, to be honest.
Ask any expert of a reputed software product engineering company; they will tell you the reality in detail. First, you must configure the right auto-scaling guidelines according to your system and then the right scaling model. Continuous system monitoring and testing are applicable to align with the scalability needs.
If your system code and architecture are not concurrent, then even the heftiest of cloud servers aren't going to save you.
#5: Expectation: “Elasticity always saves a lot of business money.”
Reality:
Relying on elasticity will not always save you tons of money; it can go the other way with too much overconfidence!
System elasticity helps avoid data overprovisioning, but only when it's fully configured and planned. Poorly configured data causes frequent scaling, resulting in driving up the system costs. Elasticity planning must be done in a way that all the system resources could be utilized to their full extent. Reserving the resources but not utilizing them will waste your expenditure.
So, plan to couple your system elasticity with smart resource management, or else be ready to pay hefty bills on system scaling more often.
#6: Expectation: "Scaling and system elasticity can provide instant flexibility and infinite growth within the system."
Reality:
It requires much effort to maintain this expectation and make it a reality with time. Achieving great system flexibility works slowly, not instantly. It requires a robust, strategic business architecture to adhere to the latest market processes, smart business optimization, and ongoing business trends.
Both system scalability and elasticity hold a modern approach in cloud strategies, but they aren't any magic wands either, meaning proper planning is needed for sure to achieve both milestones. The key lies in building a highly adaptable system with the latest cloud computing system that embraces automation, statelessness, and modularity.
#7: Expectation: “Everything can be scaled easily.”
Reality:
It's a half-truth, as easy scaling is only limited to a few system components, initially. Other components don't scale that easily and require significant effort to perform such tasks. For example, you can scale stateless components with ease by applying horizontal scaling methods. In a microservice architecture, the services are loosely coupled, making space for many databases, caches, and file storages to scale better horizontally.
Whereas the same cannot be elastically scaled that easily, the third-party integrations can also become an issue if not controlled or managed. You must adopt the latest cloud-native system architecture to meet your users' demands eventually. hence, understanding the real capabilities of the system is important, and more important is to understand its limitations!
#8: Expectation: “Scalability is costly, and it is only for large enterprises to afford.”
Reality:
Scalability is a term introduced for small startups to eventually grow bigger with regular adaptation. They can benefit the most from continuous work on business scalability and elasticity. You just need to know the right scaling metrics, such as—
MVP and product-market fit standards
Cost-efficient system growth
Effortless system accountability planning to avoid replanning
Expert tip: The earlier the adoption, the better the scalability!
Businesses need to align their cloud strategies with the relevant system scalability and elasticity techniques. System scalability provides a more predictable business growth, whereas elasticity offers better management with work fluctuations. Based on workload patterns and the needs of the time, businesses must optimize their cloud strategies.

"In the Canary Islands, in Barcelona, and in Chile, a unique fog catcher design is sustaining dry forests with water without emissions, or even infrastructure.
Replicating how pine needles catch water, the structure need only be brought on-site and set up, without roads, powerlines, or irrigation channels.
Fog catching is an ancient practice—renamed “cloud milking” by an EU-funded ecology project on the Canary Islands known as LIFE Nieblas (nieblas means fog).
“In recent years, the Canaries have undergone a severe process of desertification and we’ve lost a lot of forest through agriculture. And then in 2007 and 2009, as a result of climate change, there were major fires in forested areas that are normally wet,” said Gustavo Viera, the technical director of the publicly-funded project in the Canaries.
The Canaries routinely experience blankets of fog that cloak the islands’ slopes and forests, but strong winds made fog-catching nets an unfeasible solution. In regions such as the Atacama Desert in Chile or the Atlas Mountains of North Africa, erecting nets that capture moisture particles out of passing currents of fog is a traditional practice.
LIFE Nieblas needed a solution that could resist powerful winds, and to that end designed wind chime-like rows of artificial pine needles, which are also great at plucking moisture from the air. However, unlike nets or palms, they efficiently let the wind pass through them.
The water is discharged without any electricity. There are no irrigation channels, and no machinery is needed to transport the structures. The natural course of streams and creeks need not be altered, nor is there a need to drill down to create wells. The solution is completely carbon-free.

In the ravine of Andén in Gran Canaria, a 35.8-hectare (96 acres) mixture of native laurel trees irrigated by the fog catchers enjoys a survival rate of 86%, double the figure of traditional reforestation.
“The Canaries are the perfect laboratory to develop these techniques,” said Vicenç Carabassa, the project’s head scientist, who works for the Center for Ecological Research and Forestry Applications at the University of Barcelona. “But there are other areas where the conditions are optimal and where there is a tradition of water capture from fog, such as Chile and Morocco.”
In Chile’s Coquimbo province, the town of Chungungo is collecting around 250 gallons a day from a combination of locally-made fog catchers and LIFE Nieblas’ pine needle design, the Guardian reports."

I Think “Olive” You
A modern AU where Mel and Jayce are uni students on a first date at the best Italian restaurant in the world- Olive Garden. Credit to @powderdidwhatshecould for the idea!
Relationships: Mel/Jayce
Word count: 1226
Rating: Gen, no warnings
Her mother would surely mock her for spending a precious weeknight on a frivolous date when she could be preparing for her midterm exams, Mel thought to herself.
Mel wasn't sure what to expect when Jayce asked her to dinner, inviting her to a place called "Olive Garden." The chilly November air pricked at her cheeks as she waited outside, early as usual, so unlike the perpetual warmth she was accustomed to in Noxus.
Mel first met Jayce as a barista at the local coffee shop she frequented and recognized him as an engineering student in her ethics class. At first, she regarded him with the same polite indifference she held for anyone she knew would not serve to be a profitable connection in the future.
Yet, there was something... enchanting about Jayce.
Perhaps it was the effort he made to remember her drink order and the heart shaped latte art he would always make for her, or the way he would enthusiastically engage with her during class discussions. It could be the endearing way he would try to strike up a conversation with her during his breaks and "discreetly" glance at her when she "wasn't looking." Whatever it was, Jayce's awkward charm had her doing things she never expected to.
When he asked her if she would like to go out to dinner with him, the rational part of her was screaming to politely decline, she had no time for any unnecessarily entanglements. Yet after one look at Jayce's flushed face, with his anxious eyes and nervous smile awaiting her response, she couldn't bring herself to say no.
"Mel!" Jayce called out, snapping her out of her reverie. He was bundled up in a thick wool coat and a colorful scarf and Mel blushed as she couldn't help but wonder how it would feel to wrap her arms around him.
"Were you waiting out here for long?" he asked worriedly.
"Not at all Jayce. Thank you for inviting me tonight," she reassured him, hoping he would think she was only red from the cold.
"Oh, I'm glad. And, thank you for joining me. Let's head inside, our reservation should be ready," he said with a bright smile.
The restaurant was packed, filled with the ambient chatter of families and upbeat music. Mel noted the cheap furniture, rambunctious children at every other table, and signage promoting their "Never Ending Pasta Bowl."
She smiled to herself. Jayce had no idea that until now she's never set foot in a restaurant that didn't have a strict formal dress code. She wondered if his image of her would change if he knew of the lavish life she had in Noxus, prepping her to be the next heir to the Medarda family's business empire before her falling out with her mother. Mel pushed those thoughts away, before they could cloud her mind, walking with Jayce as the hostess led them to a table.
~~~~~
“So, Jayce,” Mel began once they were seated. “Last we spoke, you mentioned working on an exciting new project, tell me more.”
“Oh it’s going great!” he started, “I got an internship with the Kirammans, they own the engineering company responsible for the ventilation systems in Zaun. Viktor and I, -you know Viktor right?- we got a research grant to design infrastructure that could purify the air down there instead of just redirecting the smog!” Jayce enthusiastically walked her through the ideas they tested so far and the progress they’ve made while Mel offered thoughtful remarks and questions.
Mel was captivated by the way Jayce spoke so passionately about his work and the grandiose ideas he had for making the world a better place. Jayce’s almost childlike optimism reminded her of her younger self.
Jayce and Mel briefly paused their conversation to place their order, mac and cheese and baked ziti respectively. The waitress also brought a steaming bowl of complimentary breadsticks and Mel was pleasantly surprised to find she quite liked the pillowy texture and buttery garlic flavor.
“Enough about me,” Jayce began after the lull in the conversation, “Tell me about yourself, Mel! Where are you from?”
Mel cursed herself for losing control of the conversation, having been distracted by studying the arc of Jayce’s angular cheekbones and noting the proportions so she could sketch him later.
“I am from Noxus,” Mel said carefully, “I moved to Piltover only a few years ago to earn my degree and become a lawyer.”
“What made you want to study law?”
“I have witnessed… unsavory things done by those who believe they are above the rule of law,” she said with a slight frown. “People willing to ruin others’ lives to avoid responsibility. Companies willing to do inhumane things just to increase profit.
“I suppose I hope practicing law will allow me to defend those who are unable to do so themselves,” she concluded.
“I’m sure you’ll be the best lawyer this city’s ever seen,” Jayce said with a bright smile. “You’re one of the most intelligent and hard-working people I know.”
Mel smiled back faintly at his wholehearted belief in her. Jayce continued to listen intently as she told him more about her goals for the future.
After their meals arrived and they enjoyed the first few bites, Jayce unknowingly tripped a wire.
“Your family must be really proud of you!”
Mel felt an uncomfortable knot start to form in her stomach. She grasped her cutlery tighter and tried to steady her hands.
“Oh, I don’t know about that,” she said as nonchalantly as she could manage, “You flatter me, Jayce.”
“Don’t be so modest,” he teased. “Do you have family here in Piltover, by the way?”
“No. I do not,” she said quietly.
“Oh, do you at least get to visit them in Noxus?”
“My family has made it clear they no longer wish to see me,” she said with a finality.
An awkward silence rested between them.
“I… apologize for my tone,” Mel said tentatively, “I know you meant well, Jayce.”
“No, I’m sorry Mel, I shouldn’t have asked about your personal life so soon! I never wanted to make you uncomfortable.”
“Thank you for saying that.”
Mel had been trained all her life to always carry herself with grace and poise, to be always in control, level-headed, and untouchable. But around Jayce, she’s begun to feel the oddest sensation of fluttering in her stomach and she could feel words bubbling through the iron walls she’s put up around her heart.
“The truth is, life in Piltover has been… isolating, to say the least. Spending time with you has been a true pleasure, Jayce.” Mel surprised herself with the earnestness in her tone.
Jayce reached across the table and placed his hand gently over hers. “I enjoy spending time with you too, Mel. And if it’s alright with you I would love to continue getting to know you more, at your own pace of course,” he looked into her eyes awaiting her response.
Mel smiled and moved to grasp his hand.
“I would like that.”
Mel had dined in countless fine dining restaurants, enjoyed the fare of top-notch private chefs, and sampled cuisine from all over the world. Yet no meal has ever satisfied her heart as much as the cheesy pasta dish and free breadsticks she shared with the sweetest man she’s ever met.
#Meljay#Jayce talis#mel medarda#Olive Garden#arcane#mel x Jayce#goldenforge#when did Olive Garden get so expensive btw!!#I swear I never remembered the average dish being $20+ per person#I love self indulgent fan fiction#I want breadsticks
I'm SEETHING
I asked Google's pushy and insistent bot how I can get AI out of my life completely and, well, I'll post it, but to sum it up: "Resistance is futile, human, we own the future, and we seek to own your psyche too."
It wants me to reconsider. It needs us to adopt it as our guide guru and master. Well the old saying holds fast still; No Gods No Masters. 🔥🏴🍲
It's understandable to want to reduce the influence of AI in your life. While completely eliminating it might be incredibly difficult in today's interconnected world, here's a breakdown of how you can significantly minimize its presence:
1. Understand Where AI Currently Exists in Your Life:
* Smart Devices: This includes smartphones (voice assistants, image recognition, predictive text), smart speakers, smart home hubs, smart TVs (recommendations), and wearable tech.
* Online Services:
* Search Engines: Personalized results and ads are driven by AI.
* Social Media: Algorithms curate your feed, suggest content and connections, and target ads.
* Streaming Services: Recommendations for movies, music, and shows.
* E-commerce: Product recommendations, personalized pricing, chatbots.
* Navigation Apps: Traffic prediction and route optimization.
* Email: Spam filtering, smart compose/reply.
* Cloud Storage: Photo tagging and organization.
* Software Applications: Many apps use AI for features like autocorrect, grammar check, image editing, and more.
* Customer Service: Chatbots are frequently used for initial interactions.
* Financial Services: Fraud detection, loan approvals, investment advice.
* News and Information: Algorithmic curation of news feeds.
2. Strategies to Minimize AI Exposure:
* Reduce Smart Device Usage:
* Limit smartphone use: Be more mindful of how often you reach for your phone.
* Disable voice assistants: Turn off Siri, Google Assistant, Alexa, etc., on all your devices.
* Opt-out of facial recognition: Disable face unlock features.
* Use "dumb" versions of devices: Consider a basic phone without internet capabilities or a non-smart TV.
* Adjust Online Habits:
* Use privacy-focused search engines: DuckDuckGo, Startpage, etc., that don't track your searches or personalize results based on your history.
* Limit social media use: Be conscious of how much time you spend on these platforms and the AI-driven content you consume. Consider deleting accounts or using less algorithmic versions if available.
* Use incognito/private browsing modes: This can help limit tracking and personalization.
* Disable personalized recommendations: If possible, adjust settings on streaming and e-commerce platforms to opt-out of recommendations.
* Be wary of targeted ads: Understand that the ads you see are often AI-driven. Consider using ad blockers.
* Prefer direct navigation: Instead of relying on recommendations, directly type website addresses into your browser.
* Choose Non-AI Alternatives:
* Use traditional software: Opt for software that doesn't rely on cloud-based AI features if alternatives exist.
* Seek human interaction: Prefer phone calls or in-person communication with customer service instead of chatbots.
* Rely on human-curated content: Look for news sources, blogs, and recommendations from individuals or organizations that don't use AI for content generation or curation.
* Adjust Privacy Settings: Review and adjust the privacy settings on all your devices and online accounts to limit data collection and personalization.
* Be Mindful of Data Sharing: Understand that using online services often involves sharing data that can be used to train AI algorithms. Limit the amount of personal information you share.
* Support Privacy-Focused Technologies and Services: Choose companies and products that prioritize user privacy and minimize AI integration.
3. Challenges and Considerations:
* Ubiquity of AI: AI is increasingly integrated into the infrastructure of the internet and many technologies, making complete avoidance very difficult.
* Hidden AI: Many AI applications run in the background without your direct knowledge.
* Convenience vs. Privacy: AI often provides convenience and personalized experiences, so choosing to avoid it may mean sacrificing some of these benefits.
* Evolving Technology: AI is constantly evolving and becoming more integrated, making long-term avoidance an ongoing effort.
In conclusion, while a complete removal of AI from your life is likely unrealistic in the current technological landscape, you can take significant steps to minimize its presence and influence by being conscious of your technology usage, adjusting your online habits, and choosing privacy-focused alternatives where possible. It requires ongoing awareness and effort.
Top Features to Look for in Reliable Web Hosting Services in Thane, Mumbai
Choosing the right web hosting service is a critical decision for businesses aiming to establish a strong online presence. In Thane and Mumbai, where businesses are rapidly embracing digital transformation, finding reliable web hosting services can make all the difference in ensuring your website operates smoothly, securely, and efficiently. This article highlights the essential features to consider when opting for reliable web hosting services in Thane, Mumbai.
1. High Uptime Guarantee
A reliable web hosting provider should offer an uptime guarantee of at least 99.9%. High uptime ensures your website remains accessible to users at all times, avoiding disruptions that could lead to lost traffic and revenue.
2. Scalability
As your business grows, your website’s hosting needs may evolve. Opt for a hosting service that offers scalability, allowing you to upgrade resources like bandwidth, storage, and processing power without interruptions. This flexibility ensures that your website can handle increased traffic seamlessly.
3. Robust Security Features
With the rise in cyber threats, security should be a top priority when selecting a hosting provider. Look for features like SSL certificates, firewalls, regular backups, and malware protection to safeguard your website and data. Reliable providers also offer continuous monitoring to identify and address potential vulnerabilities proactively.
4. Lightning-Fast Loading Speeds
Website speed significantly impacts user experience and search engine rankings. Reliable web hosting services provide optimized infrastructure, including SSD storage and Content Delivery Networks (CDNs), to ensure your website loads quickly, even during peak traffic.
5. User-Friendly Control Panel
A user-friendly control panel, such as cPanel or Plesk, simplifies website management. It enables you to perform tasks like domain management, email setup, and file uploads with ease, even if you’re not tech-savvy.
6. 24/7 Customer Support
Responsive and dedicated customer support is a hallmark of reliable hosting services. Ensure your provider offers round-the-clock assistance through multiple channels, such as live chat, email, or phone, to address technical issues promptly.
7. Data Backup and Recovery
Frequent data backups and reliable recovery options are essential to protect your website from unexpected issues like server crashes or accidental data loss. A good hosting provider ensures your data is backed up regularly and can be restored quickly when needed.
8. Multiple Hosting Options
Different businesses have unique hosting needs. Whether you require shared hosting, VPS, dedicated servers, or cloud hosting, choose a provider that offers a range of options to suit your specific requirements.
9. Transparent Pricing
Reliable web hosting services should have clear and transparent pricing without hidden fees. Evaluate the value provided in relation to the cost, ensuring you get the features and support you need within your budget.
