Hey all, I hope you're having a good weekend. Thank you @blackberrysummerblog and @nausikaaa for the lovely tags today🩵🐑 (and belated thanks to @lovelyladzzzz for the WIP wednesday tag, your COBB sneak peek of Baz being judgy filled me with glee).

This weekend I've been spending time with my mum in the garden, sketching, going on dog walks and trying to get my little ADD brain around some sewing pattern instructions for making a renaissance style doublet. (I may have to rewrite the instructions completely before I can really start sewing and focus, since contrary to it being a 'Simplicity' pattern, its actually pretty dang complicated and obscure in its wording 😅)

Work is still unfortunately slow on Snow On Ice, but my mental health is gradually improving and I finally have some new ADHD meds so hopefully they will help 🤞

hi! i recently subscribed to the pateron, and im a little intimidated by all of the extra content available, lol. in your opinion, what are some of the funniest short rest / dungeon court / mixed bag episodes to start with? (if anyone else also has their fave eps to share please do)

i’m gonna operate under the assumption you’re caught up on main feed eps but if i suggest a short rest for an episode you haven’t listened to, definitely hit the episode first.

these are just off the top of my head with ones i can remember what they are, i may come up with more later lol

short rests:

i think short rests 99 and 100 should actually be required listening for everyone, they’re fucking earth shattering. start there.

the one for 70 is stupid and reveals how they almost lost the episode so that’s a good one.

c3e22 has one of the most insane short rests in retrospect. and c3e41 also has a bonkers short rest. they talk about santa manscaping in your bathroom. the episode came out in august. i wept.

c2e41’s campaign wrap up short rest also is a good time and gives good insights on the campaign.

the short rest for the can they kill it is the origin of crabster. 77 has a rose before noon. 91 ends with jake saying something so insane it ruins me.

the short rest for caldwells frooze your own adventure also slaps. the wilson brothers are there.

the brussels hookup is another 8bbc short rest that’s so dumb and beautiful.

c3e54 has them all hyped up on too much caffeine after a mixed bag and talking about jumping off decks onto frozen lakes and landing on one boob and one butt cheek. i wish i was kidding. it’s incredible.

dungeon courts:

i’m mostly gonna highlight patreon dungeon courts with the assumption you’ve listened to the corresponding main feed eps.

king robert can klump ft. ally beardsley. the flintstones costume fun around the house. you don’t know what that means but it’s. something.

a little place called mangia’s. murph breaks down. caldwell loses it. jake turns to google.

yuncle ft. jasper william cartwright. rats ride loose and your yuncle is power hungry.

the video dungeon courts are great, you can see murph lose it.

bird jail ft. zac oyama. actually anything with zac oyama. it’s great.

table rattlers ft. jeremy cobb. i don’t remember what happens exactly but it’s great.

the dm’s judge ft. lou wilson and zac oyama. absolutely iconic bench on this one.

mixed bags:

mixed bag tier my beloved!! so many are so good!

the whole blazing babe chronicles. not enough people know there was a second hot boy summer campaign that’s available on the mixed bag. caldwell spills half a corona on his character sheet. it’s a dry july and the boys are Not on the same page about it. love is love is love returns.

the biggest loreser is new but damn if it isn’t impeccable. warning: the fred flintstone noise is fucking LOUD

all the taste tests (energy drinks, m&ms, and gamer energy drinks). jake tries an expired products. jake later forgets to buy peanut m&ms while emily decides she can taste what color an m&m is. murph gets hyped on caffeine and has to take a break resulting in one of the most insane short rests to date. listen to the short rest first, it’s funnier that way.

if you can listen to live shows, (the sound is sometimes challenging) i recommend those. great starting point is the melbourne one from last year, i laughed so much the first time i heard it. “i was a lurking actor. that’s a union job!” also the boston dungeon court did hit the main feed but started as a mixed bag and i was there so i want to shout it out.

emily’s winter solstice one shot!! brennan and siobhan are there and it’s creepy and truly so fun.

both dungeons and dragons movies. jake and emily gaslight murph. they talk about a truly terrible set of films. there’s someone called grape lady that is a highlight.

both spilltaculars. at times a bit cringe, but it’s fun to hear other people’s failures sometimes because then you feel better about yourself. plus they make up a judgement scale that is different every time.

spellcheck! the game show that’s kinda sweeping the nation. or was. it’s fun.

that’s long (oops) and all i can think of off the top of my head. if people have other faves, share them for new patreon people!

also, my last bit of advice is to join the streams if you can. jake’s stream is for the short rest tier and above and caldwells is for the mixed bag tier and above. they’re wild. we had caldwell drawing everyone in crocs for like 6 months (it’s arguably why we’re getting the jibbitz). sometimes you get tucker lore. (tucker, the fictional man jake’s wife is cucking him with.) they’re grand.

I read the first volume of Nightwing 2011 and it violently flung me back in time to when the Nu52 stuff was first coming out and how mad I was about all of it, that I'm not wrong that I was bored by all this new stuff--I read that entire volume and only the Alfred cameo had me even consider making a post about it, despite that it was prime content, Dick inheriting the Circus! William Cobb mention! Court of Owls! Kyle Higgins writing it! and yet I had nothing to say about any of it--but the bigger lesson I took away was: I remember that mindset of constantly being mad at comics and it's exhausting just thinking about it. "Nobody hates comics like comics fans" was funny to me back in the day, but now I'm too tired to want to go down that road again, I've done my time in the salt mines, I'm parking my butt out in the sunshine now. There's a lot of things I'd love to see done better about current day comics, but there's a lot that's genuinely just fun, I enjoyed Gotham War, I enjoyed the hell out of Beast World, it was so silly and fun, I'm enjoying Tom Taylor's Nightwing series, I'm enjoying viewing Babs as Batgirl through my own lens of what invisible disabilities are like to go through and how much you have to claw back even when it's not "obvious" that you're not fully able-bodied, all things that sure could be better, but I have personally chosen to stay in the sun and find the joy. Reading Nightwing 2011 I was catapulted back into that mindset of Being Mad At Comics and it was just the opposite of fun, I don't want to spend my time being mad about the costume color's change from blue to red, I want to read a comic and find a moment of joy and come yell at the internet about it. So, like. If you see me be doggedly positive and think my taste is shit, fair enough, but also just know that I have decided I am letting go of my anger at the funnybooks as much as I can because, at the end of the day, they're comic books and I have a choice: Be mad or have fun. I'm choosing fun because I, on a personal level, need that. (And also I think there's a lot to have fun with!) (This post also brought to you by Star Wars. Oh my goooood there's so much I could complain about in Star Wars, some of it is So Bad, but like. Where is that going to get me, on a grand scale? Nowhere fun! This is my hobby, I'm skimming over the bad and finding the stuff that I think is cute or funny, because I nearly left the SW fandom a bunch of times because constant negativity was absolutely killing any energy I had to be here.)

"Fuck off," David says, and he hates how the venom gets lost somewhere in his voice, even when he's boiling with it. Other people might laugh, but Joe just looks at him. "I mean, Cobb said -- "

"Cobb's a dick," Joe declares, flicking away his cigarette butt. He joins his hands behind his head as a pillow and closes his eyes and that's the end of that, apparently. 

Initially, David is surprised at this assessment because Joe is a dick, too, but then he realizes that they diverge in ways he hasn't really thought about until now. Joe is a dick, sure, but he has no bite to him, not really. Not once you get past the surface layer. 

"The fuck are you lookin' at," Liebgott mumbles without opening his eyes. 

David treats that as a rhetorical question and Liebgott doesn't say anything else. He takes a pull off the cigarette, examining the lit end as he exhales in a long, slow breath. "Lieb."

"What."

"You ever feel like no one really knows you?" 

"I guess. Sure. But do you even really know yourself at this point?" Liebgott scratches his nose as David stares. 

"Wow. So you do introspect somewhat."

"See, this," Liebgott stretches his fingers out and swipes a single circle in the air, "this is why so many people want to punch you. I get where Cobb is coming from, I really do." 

"Glad to know whose side you're on," David says, trying for sarcastic and landing on pathetic instead. 

"Web. Jesus. Have some goddamn self-confidence, would you?"

"How the hell am I supposed to do that when you're razzing me for sixteen hours out of the day?"

Lieb finally opens his eyes. He props himself up on his elbows to get a better angle at which to eviscerate David with his laser stare. "Fucking listen to yourself. We're hanging out sixteen hours a day, period." 

David bristles. Backtracks a bit. "I meant that as an exaggeration. And anyway, that wasn't the point -- "

"You ever see Talbert moping in a corner because of something I said? Or Luz? Or Sisk, or Grant, or -- "

"Alright! Alright, I get it," David interrupts, even though he doesn't, really. He just wants Liebgott to stop talking. There's only so much he can pick apart while trying to fall asleep at night and the mental inbox labeled OVERANALYZE LATER is already overflowing with this newfound realization of exactly how much they've been seeing of each other.

"All I'm saying is that this seems like a 'you' issue," Liebgott finishes. He lies back down, this time with his hands folded over his chest like he's lying in a sarcophagus. 

"Sure, fine, whatever." His cigarette has burnt down almost to the filter; he stares at it as the flame flickers closer and closer to his fingers. 

"Oh my god, Web," Liebgott groans. "Seriously, can you, like, I don't know. Watch a TED Talk about how to not be overdramatic. Focus on some self-improvement." 

"I was just kidding. And you wanna talk about self-improvement? Because we can talk about self-improvement."

"Right. Nope. I changed my mind, let's not go there." Lieb closes his eyes again, since he knows that David knows that there are six meditation apps on his phone and zero data usage on all of them.  

"Alright."

"Sorry."

"It's fine. Besides, I know that being an annoying asshole is one of your expressive love languages."

He waits for Lieb's eyes to pop open and bug out, but all he does is kind of shrug serenely, and then that familiar desperate feeling bounds through him. From the first moment they met, he has been seeking Joe's approval with an embarrassing intensity that he hates himself for. 

There's a shock of pain in his hand and he soundlessly drops the cigarette that he'd forgotten all about at the same time Joe speaks up again. "What are the other four?"

"What?" David asks, distracted, shaking his hand out.

"My other four love languages. Since you know me so well." Joe crooks one arm behind his head as support, making him look indolent and challenging at the same time.  

"Being an asshole is one through five."

"Aw, come on!" 

"You seriously want me to answer? Isn't this something you need to identify on your own?"

"Yeah, but I want to hear what you think."

Another soundbyte for that mental inbox that David carefully files away. "That's even more self-indulgent than usual," he points out.

"I'm okay with that. Indulge me," Joe says with heavy lidded eyes, and David wants to roll over and scream into the dirt. 

"I don't know. I stand by my original answer," he ends up muttering. He rips up a handful of grass and fiddles with it as Lieb snorts and says, "Gee, thanks."

I Think I’ll Just Hang Out on the Porch and Enjoy the Mountain View! (Great Smoky Mountains National Park) by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: While exploring and walking around the John Oliver Cabin in the Cades Cove area of Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The setting is looking to the south-southwest using the porch to frame the edges and be a leading line into the image with the grassy meadow and more distance ridges and peaks of the Western Great Smoky Mountains (Cobb Butt and Cobb Ridge). The rest was aligning myself to the porch and overhang while exposing for the highlights off in the distance. I later used Perspective tool in DxO PhotoLab 7 to straighten out the angles with the cabin.

I apologize for the delay, got sidetracked yesterday and still needed to do some editing.

I hope you are all having a lovely weekend.

CHAPTER TEN

Din didn’t know if he wanted to smack Cobb upside his head, or praise him for providing support to those who were trying to escape a bad situation. However, he kept think about his words, “She’s going to do just fine. I think you two are going to get along, just make sure to rein in that charming horrible bedside manner, and you should be fine.”

“How do you know?”

“Hmmm?” Cobb asked as he bit into the sandwich he made.

“How do you know she’ll be fine?”

“Well I may have just met her, but Fennec spent a lot of time talking to her. Helping her to get her, and she came highly recommended by her” Cobb quirked his eyebrow, as he finished chewing his sandwich. “You got any dijon mustard?”

“Check the fridge door, bottom shelf.”

“Ah!” Cobb shouted when he found the bottle he was looking for, and adjusting his sandwich. “Anyway yeah, so Fennec said she trusted her, and you know Fennec she doesn’t trust anyone.”

“Fennec?”

“Yes. Fennec.”

Din pinched the bridge of his nose, somehow the sensation that he just took on more than he should’ve filled him, “Cobb, what did you get me into?”

“Nothing. Just maybe pull you out of rut. Listen you said you needed help, and she’s capable, smart, and she needs a place to lay low. Fennec didn’t tell me everything, but from what I hear it’s pretty bad. And anyway, you need help, right? Someone who understands how to keep to themselves and not ask a lot of questions? She kind of fits the bill, no? So then, win-win”

“Who are you Peli?”

Cobb huffed out a laugh, “Spend enough time around her eventually, that’ll happen. Anyway, is it not a win-win?” He asks, as he wipes the mustard that dribbled from his mouth. Cobb simply shrugged as he gave him a look, it was a look Cobb had perfected over years since he’d been friends with the stubborn man before him. A look that told Din, he needed to stop having such a pickle up his butt. 

“Fine. Okay.”

Cobb patted his shoulder as he stepped out of the kitchen once he finished his sandwich, “You know Ann’s not all that bad, she seems sweet. Easy on the eyes, and has a very enjoyable laugh.”

“Great, I’ll tell her you said that”

Cobb’s smile etched across his face, “You say that like it’s a bad thing. Only thing you’re doing is making it easier for me, when I try to woo her”

“Woo? What are you a hundred?”

“No, I’m a gentleman, and that’s what gentlemen do” Cobb donned his hat, tipping it to his best friend as he strode out of the house, to help Ann with her bag.

Din stood in the kitchen looking at Camilla’s picture, it was taken when she was seven months pregnant with Grogu. It was a time when they both were happy, as a world of possibilities were open before them. His finger trailed over her face, he missed her smile, the way she looked at him full of love and kindness; as though she could see right through him and knew what he was thinking. 

 There was a warmth her presence filled in the house, it was something he missed.

Now that it was just him and Grogu he tried to make the house as warm as she used to, but it wasn’t the same. 

They were getting by, it helped that Grogu didn’t really have memories of Camilla, but he still felt he was lacking in every way that mattered for his son. He tried harder than most probably had, and it still didn’t feel right. 

And now, he had a new farmhand, who was looking for a place to lay low, what could possibly go wrong?

Din looked at the watch, it was almost time for Grogu to be home, he headed towards the end of the driveway. He stood waiting for the bus. As soon as the bus stopped Grogu jumped off the bus and ran up the path as fast as his legs could carry him to the ranch as his school work flapped in the wind, Din stood with wide arms, ready to pick up his six-year-old.

“Patu!”

“Hey buddy, how was school?” Din held Grogu close to his chest, as Grogu’s arms wrapped around his neck. 

“Good. Look” he pulled back, his hand still clutching on to his school work, as he showed it in front of his dad’s face.

Din couldn’t make it out properly as it flapped in the wind, he held on to one side pulling it back away from his face so he could see it clearly, his eyes began to water at the artwork. It was a drawing of what looked like their ranch, with what he assumed were animals, possibly representing the horses, and in front were two figures holding hands. “Isn’t that us, bud?”

“You, me, Tak and Mis” Grogu pointed out each figure naming them.

“I love it. You did so good buddy!” Din gave him a hug, pressing him closer to his shoulder. “I’m going to hang this in my office right now. Is that okay?” Grogu simply nodded as he rested his head on his dad’s shoulder, Din shifted till he carried him in one hand and Grogu’s backpack in the other.

Grogu’s artwork was still in his little hands clutching it for his father. 

Din started walking back to the house, taking a detour by way of the nuna pens. It was one of Grogu’s favourite things to do. He let Grogu down, letting him have a moment to say hi to all of the nunas and chicks in there, after which Grogu ran over to spend time with the horses and Bessie. 

It was almost an hour later when they began heading inside, Din was a little nervous to see Grogu’s reaction to Ann, it wasn’t so much that they never had workers before, but they never had a female worker. As he looked at Grogu’s happy innocent face, a sense of dread filled him. Maybe this was a bad idea.

hello love, got an ask for you.. have you ever entertained the idea of eames being a friend of Cobbs before arthur was but eventually the events happened as they happened and the dynamic changed, but eames always knew more than arthur simply cause he had been “arthur” before? cause the more I watch the mombasa conversation the more it looks like having arthur in the middle isn’t the only thing which has eames being ready to kick cobbs proverbial butt? xoxo

In one of my (many) Eamesian origin headcanons I imagine Eames and Mal were cousins, or perhaps half-siblings who weren't particularly close but in the same orbit, attended the occasional big family events, were maybe lumped together for every other summer as kids. I'm not sure I can see him as ever being Cobb's friend, as a confidante, the Eames in my head has always had a good radar for loyalty to him and Cobb has never blipped on it.

Canonically speaking, I don't know if Eames knows of Mal and her fate tangentially through the dreamshare grapevine, or if he did know her personally. I do think it's very plain to see that Eames doesn't like Cobb, for one or maybe for many reasons. Be it his assessment of his professional acumen, Arthur, or Mal - or all of the above - Eames just doesn't like Cobb, won't ever. Especially after the Fischer job, any lingering modicum of trust Eames might have had or wanted to have is gone and never coming back.

I like to lean into the seemingly one-sided bitterness of the Mombasa exchange being personal, for Eames, purely because of how he makes it all about work. "Arthur (personal), you still working with him (professional)" etc. Eames is someone who is forthright for the sake of being blunt and honest at the same time he is doing it as a verbal magic trick--you hear the flashy words and the rest of the intent is being whisked away behind the curtain. As always with this fandom the possibilities are endless!

Sorry this is another artless post, but I had this Queers & Comics Conference/Panel on Bears/Big Boys/Queer Fat Art last night and I really enjoyed the discussion and discovering some new artists (Gengoroh Tagame had a separate keynote lecture afterwards that i was really into as well) but i won't lie i really shot up when I heard Ed Luce and Jeremy Owen were both wrestling fans. It got me thinking and it would be so cool to get some artists together for a fanbook/zine/illustration collection of fat bodies in wrestling.

I'm always thinking of something Kath Barbadoro said on an episode of Wrestlesplania, she was talking about Aja Kong and how she was presented as powerful and never the butt of the joke, and how wrestling is one of the few avenues where this paradigm exists (a fat body as a symbol of power) without any snide undercutting or irony. (Ignoring anything Vince McMahon puts his grubbly decrepit claws on, obviously)

The Mac proper had people gang up on me and they had to but they have to do it to the clans too so now I'm seeing it it's a pattern and they want everybody to gain on a friend here so now we should gang up on them and he's been saying it and I get it now it's their method and it comes out of nowhere and whammo everyone's ganging up on someone if you keep doing this we're never going to get anywhere and I do see that they are riders and they do it a lot.

This is kind of a take off on the Boss hoss idea and the Harley-Davidson supercar but really he's thinking that he is going to be huge and he has to be have a motorcycle that works and the boss house car engine is not going to do them any good and he's reminding BG this Boss hoss would be lower and you know how to take off thing works and you can get the good one and he agrees and you can lower it because he can turn you can't even turn this one that they have and you can put them side by side and you'd still be able to turn better and he agrees with that too it's not made to turn in stuff so you might do it the conventional way first and there's tons of Harley Davidson motors that you can use tons of bikes are kind of broken and the motors are sitting there and you can make a Boss hoss twin V twin and it's just like the vengeful one Spike bike and that was one of Randall texcom's bikes text Cobb then a son and daughter helped him come up with the idea it's been around and he knows about the Honda but he said wow that's a great idea and there are two 250 CC motors if they were making and it made it really powerful and it moved out and it was almost fast as the Harley-Davidson motor at 883 was faster than the other ones no but it worked very well and he was impressed and a lot of people were it went like 200 miles an hour instead of 220 with a 83 883 and people wanted it and it will probably sell again because of that and it's not massively loud but it sounds much cooler and it looks cooler it's kind of a special configuration it makes it look bigger like it has a big hefty motor and it's a unique motor and it's great it's a good idea it's like a Japanese concept too and that adds to the flavor and they want that and we think that kicks the Star blazers in the butt and they end up fighting the Mac proper and they really should because they're sponsoring this radiation experiment is coming up it's ongoing but you haven't lost that many yet you losing people I mean you lost you're down to probably half of what you had each and the Mac morlock her they ran this whole place and they're down to about 3 million that's a lot to lose but a lot of left knowing it's going to be horrible and now there's a stuck but that's going to change these bike ideas are great and he worked on me side by side V-Twin and he says it's probably smaller than the car motor and you can lower it a little he said this is great lower is faster and he knows why so we got it down there a couple inches and it goes much faster and it's safer and bigger tires and rims they're wider and he didn't try that but he's going to this is going to change things

I still own Boss hoss and I'd like to get it going and Mac proper bodies they buy these and with twin Harley-Davidson motors no and I would use s&s and we've done that for years this is right up our alley and choopers said big tires some of them in the front and we can build these in a day open up the shop. Yeah I probably would not have my son there cuz he's going to do his own version he agrees too and he might try and use the Harley motors at first it's not a bad idea you can still buy them in just more expensive he says they work a little better so it's a competition good you're on this is really going to be awesome those last hospitals are too heavy with one transmission and two motors is probably half the weight of the car motor and it's going to go faster and handle better and be lower you won't fall over it you can handle it better with a big tires is the idea and it works I'm going to go ahead and do it cuz we can't find that Vtwin they don't make it in Norway anymore and we'd have to make it this is the idea and people are helping him remember good

This idea is awesome and we're going to do it and right now I can't believe it someone finally said it it's been on the tip of everyone's tongue and it's true you should do that there's a lot of room in there for it but it's going to look like it fills it out which is nice and it's going to look like a big V-Twin and that's even nicer and it'll hide the power it's going to be intense that's going to be a lot of power it's only going to have like 250 horsepower but it'll have over 200 for pounds of torque and you need that on the bikes and it's a smart thing to do and the four stroke from two strokes should tell us that it doesn't really too much but it will
