Icon commissions available!
Hello, and good evening! I have a vacation coming up next month where I need to raise about $500 before then, so, I figure- what better way to help raise money for my trip than spreading the word of my comms, as I'm getting back into iconing again!
I specialize in making simple 100x100 RP icons. I do not make PSDs or borders, I enjoy making large quantities of RP icons, on some good days of upwards 50+ for a single episode or chapter. I like making enough expressions for threads. Basically, my goal when I make my RP icons is so less on things like borders or their edits as opposed to giving RPers enough expressions so that they can respond to most situations in their RPs.
For example: for my icons of Miku Okazaki from Gal Gohan, I have made over 1220 icons. For Ann Takamaki from Persona 5 I have made 966 icons from the anime (I still need to do the Dark Sun specials) and 137 icons from the manga. For Maggie Lacivi from Ava’s Demon (on request) I made 396 icons. For Cardia Beckford from Code:realize (only iconed episodes 1-6), I made 347 icons. For Milly Ashford from Code Geass I made 377 icons. For Doona Cheon of Sadistic Beauty I have made 945 icons. Basically, when I make icons, I make a lot, and that’s what I’m offering for you if you consider my services!
10 cents per icon, so $10 for 100 for example (I might consider adjusting this number if I make a ton of icons to be slightly lower, but this is unlikely). These icons will be published publicly; if you want this to be private (available only to you) I will up-charge you 5 cents per icon (so $15 for 100)
In order to make the time worth my while, I am currently only accepting commissions where I feel I can at least earn $10, so 100 icons at minimum!
Icons from games such as Genshin Impact, Final Fantasy XIV, etc are on a case-to-case basis. These are more time consuming for me to make as I must find cutscenes on youtube, and make use of both a screenshot extension and a frame-by-frame extension, and as such these icons take much longer for me to make than television or manga/comics. And as I'm trying to get icons done quickly, please understand to take these comms means I will have to take more time than I normally would for other. I will likely accept them, but be aware I will likely request an upcharge per icon due to the extra time taken.
I am willing to icon virtually any source, including that of most “problematic” media or N/$/F/W things like an h-manga or films showing graphic scenes (I’m not stranger to iconing things most dislike just for a FC, so I understand what you want) and even full out dead dove content. I however have a personal right to icon something that does not make me feel comfortable. If you’re going to be ask me to do something extremely sketchy please understand for my own personal comfort and for the sake of reputation I might reject it entirely. We will discuss this on a case-by-case basis, I will likely accept most commissions but I have my personal right to reject business I feel will make me uncomfortable.
I will give you periodic updates on what’s going on, the quality of your icons, etc.
I care greatly for the quality of my icons and your icons as well. When in the process of iconing JJ from YOI I was dissatisfied with the quality of my torrent and halfway through redid the process with a new torrent to ensure my customer had the best quality icons I could make. Even for my personal iconing projects I care about using the best quality possible so that the icons look good. If you want an anime (my specialty) or tv show quality I will look for the absolute best quality, 1080p or better to ensure you have the best quality icons you can have once I’m done cropping and resizing to 100x100.
In addition to the 100x100 icons I keep the original sized expressions as well. So once I take a screenshot and crop and resize, you will still have the original sized icons as well. This is not an upcharge or anything; I always do this. Good for expressions for personal use, I believe.
If your source is an exceptionally long-runner (like HxH, One Piece, or Yu Yu Hakusho) I will not icon the whole thing most likely; somehow I doubt most people are willing to pay for an icon commission that might be hundreds of dollars if you asked me to icon Gon or something. Most likely I will icon a specific arc of your choosing.
I do not icon fanart. If the character is very obscure and there is little official media, then I likely can’t make much. I am only willing to icon official media (such as anime and tv shows), official art, and perhaps doujins that were already being sold for money.
I can now make icons efficiently from youtube videos, so video games and the like provided there’s an LP of decent quality can now be iconed!
I do not do extensive editing, but with manga icons, I try to do very minor cleaning such as removing kanji from the background and and removing speech from speech bubbles. Basically, whatever I can do with Paint’s erase button, but that’s it.
If your source is a youtube series or the like, something I cannot easily torrent and convenient download in order to take screenshots and icons, there is a chance I might upcharge.
Below are examples of icons made from me from various sources, 100x100 and some full size icons! For the sake of length those (the full-sized ones) will go under the cut. I hope to hear from you soon! Please send me an ask or IM (IM preferred) to discuss business, and I will use the IM feature to keep in contact with you!
I hope you’ll consider me, and consider hiring me!

Pouring one out for 4chan tonight, folks. Yes it has always been a cesspool of the internet's worst people, but some of the boards were at one point actually a fun place to hang out. Not exactly welcoming or friendly, but definitely fun. During the height of when Code Geass was still airing in Japan, I used to go to /a/ (the anime board) every week to discuss the new episodes, participate in the memes, and just generally have a good time. I remember a time before there was a dedicated, separate Pokémon board, and participating in the shitposting on /v/ that eventually lead to /tr/ (Team Rocket) being born and then later renamed to /vp/. Pokémon leaks were both prominent and hilarious, because for every legit leak there would be at least 50 fakes of varying quality, some scarily real looking and some hilariously bad.
I remember having actual good, deep discussions with randos on the Yaoi board. It and /cm/ (cute men) were ironically two of the most civil boards on the whole of the site.
I guess what I'm saying is that I miss old 4chan. Sure even back then there were nazis, but they were, like, doing a bit. Probably. But, Anonymous used to sometimes do good things. The memes were bountiful and creative. Things were so different back then. The world and the internet are so different now. Modern 4chan was basically unusable anyway but man, wow, what a loss.

Rolo over the years
28th September is when Turn 25 “Re;” first aired, and together with Lost Stories also wrapping up R2 in its latest update, I’ve been remembering just how I miss what Code Geass was like before the year 2012ish. Rolo has been, in my opinion, treated worse since then.
Apologies in advance, as I'm going to complain, but I want to share what I remember about a time which may be forgotten or unknown to younger fans:
Before Akito, Code Geass’ “canon” story was mainly the 50 episodes of the anime. Picture/Illust Dramas, season 1 Sound Episodes (R2 SEs mostly stopped being serious) and official publications here and there were also part of the canon, but beyond that, comics like Majiko’s, Nightmare of Nunnally, or videogames such as Lost Colors diverged sufficiently from the anime to be clearly treated as AU spin-offs. Code Geass ended with Lelouch dying, and despite plenty of “the cart driver is Lelouch” theories, the creators themselves stated that Lelouch was dead (can’t remember the source, but it’s probably well documented somewhere). I miss when Lelouch stayed dead, not just as a Rolo fan, but because that’s what made the story bittersweet. That’s what made Continued Story a song I personally couldn’t listen to. All the fanarts of the characters being happy together when you knew Lelouch never got to experience that… It was sad, but in a pretty way. And yet, I guess many viewers do like Lelouch resurrecting, considering that both Lost Stories and Rozé follow that canon. For me, watching L.L. do nothing but speak in cryptic messages with C.C. is sadder than accepting his death, and not the “pretty” kind this time, but the “Lelouch was forcibly turned into someone who isn’t him” kind of sad. As for Rolo, during R2, Lelouch lived for 5 more episodes after Rolo’s death. And in such a brief period, he remembered Rolo as many as 5 times: Turn 20 preview, when Rivalz asked in Turn 20, Turn 21 preview, Turn 24 when Lelouch recalls the people who sought happiness, Turn 25 when his life flashes before his eyes. Back around 2008~2010, believing Rolo had become important to Lelouch was easy. Hikari (summary) was canon. Kiseki no Tanjoubi most likely isn’t, but Lelouch and Rolo had the main roles and Lelouch worries when Rolo gets tired. New official illustrations were still being released. The Special Edition Zero Requiem was dedicated to Shirley and Rolo because they inspired Lelouch’s Zero Requiem plan. That’s a lot of Rolo attention coming not just from the staff, but Lelouch himself. Yet resurrected!Lelouch doesn't remember Rolo again! Except for maybe just once, when Rolo and Euphy were saving him… and unfortunately for me, he uses kimitachi, which implies he was addressing Euphy (he would have used omaetachi with Rolo)… 😭 I also gacha'd Emperor Lelouch a couple days ago, hoping to find ロロ in any of his lines, but nothing. Code Geass’s canon expanding after R2 mostly took good things away from Rolo, and added bad things: -Akito and Oz both did damage to Rolo and Lelouch’s meeting. When only R2 existed, we assumed that Rolo had met Lelouch very shortly after Charles’ Geass, and that Rolo and Lelouch spent a whole year together. Akito shortened their happy year because Lelouch now needed to be Julius first, and Oz introduced Clara, who, turns out, was actually the initial choice to replace Nunnally instead of Rolo?! And even though I don’t think she even got to meet Lelouch, I don’t like how Rolo was no longer *the* Nunnally replacement. Since Rolo mentions unmei in Arabesque, I think he would have preferred to believe Lelouch and him were “destined” to meet -Couldn’t Benio and Savitri's stories be told without involving Rolo negatively? Did he need more sins? Ohgi and Nina have been redeemed in recent years, while Rolo… didn’t kill Shirley in the movies, but in the Fukkatsu manga and Lost Stories he did, so I still feel like he killed Shirley in the Fukkatsu canon -We don't talk about GeaGene -Mario/Maya ruining Rolo’s sacrifice There’s another piece of knowledge seemingly lost to time, which is that those pictures of Lelouch and Rolo aren't official. You know the ones. They were drawn by Yukie Sakou, who WAS an official animator/illustrator, but she released Anniversary & Memorial on her own. I've seen misinformed comments... Something else about Fukkatsu: I liked C.C. better when she wanted to live and be happy without depending on the protagonist for it. But if C.C. fans disagree, they certainly know her better than I do.

really, judging a character by a small amount of the plot?
It is actually rather disappointing and even annoying that so many fics I've read in Code Geass, rely on Lelouch as Demon Emperor to set up his character.
Like, let me get the math right. It's at the end of Turn 21 that he takes the throne as Emperor using his Geass and with Suzaku as his Knight. He spends only four episodes as Emperor. That 8% of the 50 episode anime.
But wait, it gets more finicky than that! He only "reveals" his nature as the "Demon Emperor" at the end of Turn 22. So that leaves you with less time, as 3 episodes out of 50 is (according to a search) is 6%. Now you could round that up to 7%...
However, considering it's end of Turn 25 that has the reveal the Zero Requiem plan in full and then you have the epilogue that takes up a good chunk of the end of the episode...it does work out to approximately 3 episodes worth of content of Lelouch being Demon Emperor.
So really it's just 6% of the plot.
And yet everyone seems to solely judge Lelouch's character more on that than the 94% rest of the plot where we see he does everything but do Demon Emperor stuff. He's capable of being ruthless, but he doesn't play the part of the villain, he goes for the heroic role and is fighting a fascist colonist empire.
Literally him as a prince/emperor isn't going to just automatically be Demon Emperor. That requires a shitton of despair and lack of other options in his mind. It requires Nunnally to be dead or "dead" for him to go for that, on top of a bunch of other bad stuff to happen to him as well. He literally only does the Zero Requiem as an elaborate suicide. He wants to die so he builds a plan that makes use of his desire to die and belief he needs to die to bring a better world.
Lelouch is capable of great ruthlessness and knows how to be a leader in a war, to make the hard choices. But we get angsty shower time in Stage 13 for a reason; he absolutely is effected by how Shirley suffers from her father's death, by how it makes it clear he is harming innocents and will continue to have an impact on people even if he just targets the military as every soldier has family and loved ones too. But he refuses to let it stop him because it would be worse if he did. If he stopped, it makes all he did worthless and at the least if he keeps going he can make it worth it.
Lelouch at worst is an Anti-Hero because he is willing to cheat, lie, and do some very nasty things to assure victory. But he is fighting the bad guys. That is absolutely the truth.

Watching Code Geass: Roze of the Recapture and i'm fascinated by the way that it is trying, and failing, to iterate on the ideas and themes of both Code Geass and UC Gundam in turn and instead producing what amounts to Mecha Slop.
A LOT of this can be put down to it being a 4 movie series they then chopped into 3 episode blocks, which is just nowhere near enough episodes to build the themes and ideas its working inside.
But like...it's drawing HARD on Gundam Unicorn, which is a 7 episode miniseries (50 minutes per for 6 episodes, 90 minutes for EP7; the entire 4 movie series adds up to 300 minutes, so fully 90 minutes less than Unicorn's runtime). And Unicorn was already stretching HARD on getting everything it needed into that short runtime (and I feel mostly succeeds; whether you enjoy or agree with its thesis is another thing entirely), so it feels insanely ambitious for the newest big tentpole of the Ten Years of Geass to be so incredibly shallow.
Part of it is that Code Geass was about that interplay of the mundane and the geopolitical; those episodes that are entirely about school shit is NOT filler, it's about the contrast of people who should be in school also trying to kill each other and rule the world! Its ridiculous and maudlin and over-the-top! But theres no room for those ideas to actually mean anything, because its got almost exactly 5 hours to convey them, and at ~22 minutes per episode, OG Code Geass had nearly exactly 19 hours to do so.
It's maybe the clearest indictment of the modern anime industry absolutely not giving creative work the time it needs. Almost nobody can pace an anime for 12 episodes and produce something thematically and narratively cohesive in the space of mecha. Even Valvrave, dogwater post-code geass anime that it was, got 26. WFM clearly wanted to have a full 52, but that obviously didn't pan out.
It's mostly just sad. There's flashes of having something to say or think about in here. But it just doesn't have the time to do anything with any of it.

the only thing “asexual lelouch” makes more interesting in code geass is that one interaction he has with kallen in r2e7 (you know the one) but like that’s a 2 minute sequence in a 50 episode anime ykwim

So I found this around, can I ask for Suzaku/ Lelouch?
♥ Send a ship and I'll give you who:
- Gives nose/forehead kisses
- Gets jealous the most
- Picks the other up from the bar when they’re too drunk to drive
- Takes care of on sick days
- Drags the other person out into the water on beach day
- Gives unprompted massages
- Drives/rides shotgun
- Brings the other lunch at work
- Has the better parental relationship
- Tries to start role-playing in bed
- Embarrassingly drunk dancer
- Still cries watching Titanic
- Firmly believes in couples costumes
- Breaks the expensive gift rule during Christmas
- Makes the other eat breakfast
- Remembers anniversaries
- Brings up having kids
you know i initially read this and was like 'im not doing that.' but then i looked over the prompts and ill give it a short go. speedrun.
*to everyone reading this. do Not expect to be able to get me to write smth just by sending an ask
- Gives nose/forehead kisses
definitely suzaku. however, lelouch especially loves goodbye and goodnight kisses.
- Gets jealous the most
lelouch LMAO my evidence is: code geass episodes 1-50
- Picks the other up from the bar when they’re too drunk to drive
i dont see lelouch being much of a bar person, but he def has a lower tolerance than suzaku. he'll see suzaku and start crying or smth. suzaku does the same thing to lelouch when he's drunk tho haha.
- Takes care of on sick days
lelouch is the caretaker ever. he's incredibly doting. suzaku is good too but no one is lelouch's level.
- Drags the other person out into the water on beach day
suzaku would want lelouch to get some exercise in and get some sun. lelouch ends up just short of drowning (horrible stamina to swim) and with a sunburn. suzaku apologizes by rubbing aloe vera on him
- Gives unprompted massages
suzaku strikes me as the more physically affectionate of the two, esp when it comes to his hands. lelouch is usually sitting at a desk doing fuck all anyway, so suzaku's strongest adversaries are the knots in lelouch's shoulders.
- Drives/rides shotgun
they can both drive, but suzaku likes it more than lelouch does so he tends to drive more. suzaku sometimes jokes abt being his chauffeur
- Brings the other lunch at work
lelouch would not let suzaku leave the house w/o his lunch. sometimes suzaku takes his lunch break to get smth lelouch asked him to get for dinner later.
- Has the better parental relationship
girl lmfao
- Tries to start role-playing in bed
i think they're both pretty good at it/into it. not an every night thing. lelouch is the better actor by far, but suzaku is nothing if not determined.
- Embarrassingly drunk dancer
suzaku would do the robot except hed call it the lancelot or something. might even try to get lelouch to join him to do a move he calls the shinkiro. (lelouch only joins when theyre at home alone. otherwise he just watches him w the most gooey romantic look anyone has ever seen.)
- Still cries watching Titanic
lelouch, easy. he's full on sobbing while suzaku laughs at him a bit. suzaku tears up a little too tho.
- Firmly believes in couples costumes
suzaku. he pesters lelouch into making an updated version of the cat outfits they had. lelouch grumbles and complains but he has a lot of fun regardless.
- Breaks the expensive gift rule during Christmas
lelouch doesnt believe that this rule should apply to himself because he loves shelling out for those he loves, but hes always incredulous when suzaku shells out. long story short, they both break the rule.
- Makes the other eat breakfast
lelouch will force suzaku to be late to make sure he has his most important meal of the day
- Remembers anniversaries
they both do! anniversaries are very important to the two of them
- Brings up having kids
suzaku would. lelouch had been thinking abt it for the same amount of time as suzaku has, but hes kind of shy abt it lol. theyd def have to talk a lot about breaking cycles!

saw someone say that naruto was better than code geass. fucking naruto. a show for 12 year olds. in which like the second episode in they use their ninja powers to spawn breastily boobing women. it took them 220 episodes to finish shippuden when code geass managed to tell a well paced far more interesting story in 50. naruto.

I'm going to rant more. If people talked about Frieren the way they do, say, Code Geass, like "This is dumb problematic trash but I like it" I wouldn't have been so blind-sided by it.
But they don't. Multiple people have described it to me as "chill" and it's sold as, like, this unique twist on fantasy tropes that we haven't seen before.
And so I really wasn't expecting to get villains that would make fucking HP Lovecraft go, "Hey, there might be some problematic elements here."
Okay, okay, they aren't worse than Lovecraft at his worst, but they're like... On par. I genuinely think that the fish people in Shadow over Innsmouth are a more well-rounded and intriguing attempt at depicting an alien mindset than the demons we've seen as of episode 7, and I am not joking about that.
Frieren's assertion that they just "mimic" speech to lull humans is shown to be demonstrably false by the actions of all the demons we've seen. They use speech to gather information about the world, to develop magic, and to organize and communicate their intent to each other, literally all the things that humans do with speech. There's nothing alien about them so far.
And like, okay, the little demon kid lies about wanting its mom so that the hero will pity it instead of killing it like we should do to all of *those sorts* but why does the lying demon peace envoy claim that he has kept his father's room the same ever since the humans killed him?
The only reason for that lie is so that we can see that Frieren was right to want to murder that child because they really are that bad and do deserve it no matter what the soft-headed liberals might think.
Because, I'm sorry, what the hell *did* happen to that guy's father? He's part of a demon army! Is his father not in it? Why not? And the humans must have inflicted some casualties on his army or the lie wouldn't make sense, so why not just bring up one of his actual companions who was actually slain by the humans?
The lie seems to serve to deaden the *audience's* empathy. If you, Mr. Audience member, were thinking about all the losses the demon army suffered, well don't, because they don't care about that kind of thing. They don't place the same value on life that we do.
Peak woke must really be over if this could take me by surprise before I heard reams of discourse about it.
It's not that this has fascist undertones, it's that it's really shoddily written fascist undertones and the story has not introduced anything to give me any hope that they could possibly be anything else. There's no hint of intrigue or the genuinely alien.
It's not just that it's the "evil race" trope. It's that I haven't seen it done this thoughtlessly and queesily in a really long time.
I was ranting at a friend about this and I compared it to Norman Spinrad's The Iron Dream but then I thought about it episode 7 really is incredibly similar to the opening of Adolf Hitler's beloved, hugo award winning classic "Lord of The Swastika".
I don't know what it means that in the last 50 years the fascist hero has changed from a muscular he-man alpha male to a cute autistic soft-girl, I wish Kontextmaschine was still alive to explain it.
If your issue with Frieren is with the treatment of demons, they get a lot more development later in the manga (with looks into their internality and mindsets, in what I'd say is a very "humanizing" way). They are ultimately creatures that through convergent evolution look like human beings in order to use aggressive mimicry, though, so it's unlikely that peace with them will ever be reached in the manga unless big changes happen. Also, I'm pretty sure that the anime doesn't reach the portions of the manga where the internality of demons is really explored. If you're still interested in the premise at all, I'd read the manga; if the idea of a species that is sentient but can't reconcile with humanity is enough to creep you out on the entire thing, though, I'd recommend you drop it.
It both annoys me on its own terms, and ALSO because it seems to make the demons a boring waste of time. Like, why do we want to watch our heroes fight these things? The only possible character development that they could spur is to make our protagonists more fascist, so that's out, but I was also sold on a show that, according to everyone, isn't really "about" big anime fight scenes?
But if this isn't a fight anime, what possible reason is there for the demons?
Also, like, the idea that they are just mimics is obviously wrong. They use speech amongst each other to coordinate their actions, and the first one we meet is an extremely proficient theorist of magic.
I did find the episode about how they should have murdered the demon child when it was pleading for its life genuinely offensive, but it's not only offensive, it's *boring*. This series that is supposed to be some sort of departure from fantasy tropes is so far incredibly stock and incurious.
Where's this amazing show the rest of you are watching?

Oh. Ooooh. Oohhh, ow, okay, soooo Lelouch meant to ACTUALLY die.
I was, like, kinda thinking, uh, that it was gonna be a faked death. Ohhh. Well. Huh.
“Suzaku... You’re going to be a hero now. The messiah who saved the world from Emperor Lelouch vi Britannia, the enemy of the world. As Zero.”
Zero was never a person. Zero was... A symbol. An idea, an ideology. It never mattered who was under that mask. Only what they did, and what they fought for. Even now, Zero always fought for the same cause... A better world.
No matter what it takes.
Tumblr media
Ow.
“The punishment for what you’ve done shall be this, then. You will live on... Always wearing that mask, serving as a knight for justice and truth. You will no longer live your life as Suzaku Kururugi. You shall sacrifice the ordinary pleasures of your life for the benefit of the world. For eternity.”
“This Geass... I do solemnly accept.”
Well. Wow. Okay.
I can’t believe Lelouch vi Britannia is fucking dead.
At long last, atonement. It would be an injustice to the world if he could live on. Suzaku and Zero, the both of them... Have always been Knights of Justice. What a beautifully fitting end. Goodness...

Sakurai x Taniguchi x Fu-kuyama Interview // NewType November 2008
Tumblr media
--Congratulations on the completion of "Code Geass". When did the thought "It's ended" first occur to you, Director Taniguchi?
Taniguchi: That's a difficult question. Visually, that would be after the V-edit (Video Editing) ended, because after that you can no longer do anything about it. However, in terms of the end [of Code Geass] as a project, I really don't know.
Tumblr media
--How did the final recording session go?
Taniguchi: It was difficult for me to control myself, psychologically. Since it was the final recording session, I kept thinking "This is the end", but in terms of the actual work, I had to hold on for a little while longer.
Fu-kuyama: I was thinking "Let's record our lines in high spirits!", but that only lasted until episode 24. The final recording session was...... This might be the first out of all my works so far in which I completed the final episode without putting too much effort into it. I took it all calmly.
Sakurai: I was in a spiritual state of nothingness. More than two years have passed between the recording of the first episode and the final episode. To be involved in a project for so long is something of a rarity these days, and because of that I was also overwhelmed with feelings. Still, "Code Geass", true to its nature, ended in a cool way.
Fu-kuyama: I think the VA with the most mixed feelings when it comes to the last episode of Code Geass might very well be Hoshi Souichirou, Gino's VA. To tell you the truth, I received a phone call on the night before the recording for the final episode. I wondered who it was... and it turned out to be Hoshi-san.
Sakurai: He called me, too.
Fu-kuyama: When I answered the call, all he said was "Tomorrow's the final episode, isn't it... do your best*." (laugh) [*ganbattene]
Sakurai: He said "Do your best" to me, too. I guess he was especially attached to this show.
Taniguchi: (laugh) It's up to everyone how they want to interpret the ending, I don't mind, but for me, it was a Happy Ending.
Fu-kuyama: I, too, think it was a happier ending than expected.
Sakurai: As for me... I'm looking at things from the viewpoint of Suzaku's VA, of course, but I've been watching the show as just another audience, too. That might be why the ending was painful for me.
Tumblr media
--Was the final episode something you thought of from the very beginning?
Taniguchi: Yes. The ending was decided upon beforehand. Although it was eventually cut, I actually had [Okouchi] write a script for episode 1, one which began with the scene of Suzaku attempting to kill Lelouch. I'm talking about episode 1 of the previous series, not R2.
Tumblr media
--The relationship between Lelouch and Suzaku described in these 50 episodes has seen a lot of ups and downs. They've shot at each other with guns, tried to kill each other, stepped on the other's face after he humbled himself by getting on his knees......
Taniguchi: From my point of view, Lelouch and Suzaku's relationship in the previous series did not go beyond that of reunited childhood friends. It wasn't "friendship" -- they were playing at a "make-believe friendship". With R2, my intention was to show how it turned into "friendship" in the truest sense of the word. ......As for the part with the kneeling, if Lelouch hadn't done that, he might have been killed by Suzaku, and Suzaku, had he not stepped on Lelouch's face, would probably not have been able to control his rage.
Tumblr media
--Basically, it was necessary to go that far* for Lelouch and Suzaku to be able to rebuild their bonds. [*kneeling + stepping on face]
Taniguchi: It's a matter of definition, but for me, the relationship between "good friends", to put it bluntly, is one in which "they are able to change each other's soiled underwear even when they've become doddering geezers".*
Fu-kuyama: Though in my opinion, that's already crossed the line into "love" territory (laugh).
[*This line sparked an outbreak of "Eeewwww, Taniguchi", "Taniguchi's definition of friendship sets the bar too high" and "...Does Taniguchi actually have such friends?" on 2ch]
Tumblr media
--Once again: what kind of show was "Code Geass" to all of you?
Sakurai: "Code Geass" was a stimulating piece of work, in my opinion. It suddenly appeared and swiftly took society by storm before facing its end in style. I look forward to everyone's reactions after the final episode. I'm sure all of us would like to see more of this type of original anime.
Taniguchi: I would be delighted if the viewers accepted [this show] with that thought in mind. When we first started "Code Geass", there was this sense of danger that if we don't do our best now original anime will die out completely. The way things are, there will eventually only be anime adapted from manga, games and light novels. For the sake of creating an entertaining original anime, we concentrated what skills we had and tried tacking them on little by little during the creation process. Of course, in "R2" we had to continue being aggressive. I continued working on this show feeling like a challenger. It was an enlightening experience!
Sakurai: These days, there are a lot of anime with tactical gimmicks, but "Code Geass" was strategically elaborate and daring, and was very much entertaining in a way other anime weren't. We, as members of the cast, were happy to have been part of its creation.
Fu-kuyama: They kept an iron-fisted control over the information given to us, too. We never knew what was going to happen next, not until we received the script.
Taniguchi: Once the episode directors, the animators and the VAs find out what's going to happen ahead of time, they tend to give their performances working backwards from the end result. There are times when working backwards actually makes it better, but if there is a continuous chain of turning points in the story, there are times when you subconsciously save your strength. I was afraid that would happen.
Fu-kuyama: I didn't want to know what was going to happen next. Finding out beforehand means I'll have to set the bar higher for myself, you see (laugh).
Tumblr media
--Lelouch was a devil of a role to play, having to face some kind of trial every single time, huh.
Fu-kuyama: Lelouch's role is, to put it simply, the chief villain, and Suzaku is the hero. Watching Lelouch use his Geass and prepare the legwork of his strategies with all his heart and soul makes you feel like pitying him.
Taniguchi: Really, I had no idea creating an evil organization of the likes of "Shocker" [*from Kamen Rider] could be so much work (laugh). It's a lot of effort, truly. Here you are, desperately planning some kind of gambit, and "BAM!", the hero appears and everything goes to pieces.
Fu-kuyama: "Code Geass" is a story seen from the side of an evil organization, isn't it? If you were to see the world through a different point of view, a different kind of logic would come into focus. For example, if you were to consider Marianne and Emperor Charles's actions from their point of view, nobody would be able to say they were wrong.
Taniguchi: If you were to rewatch "Code Geass" with the camera on Suzaku's side, Lelouch would be an absolute evil (laugh).
Sakurai: Who's on the side of justice? Who's evil? It all depends on your position and point of view. Telling the story in this manner was very interesting.
Fu-kuyama: I realized that the viewers don't work according to the logic of "justice" and "evil" when choosing which characters to empathize with.
Tumblr media
--Lastly, I'd like to ask each of you which episode left the biggest impression.
Fu-kuyama: It has to be episode 9 of "R2" for me. The conversation when Lelouch snatched Tenshi-sama away from Xingke -- in response to "You devil--!!", Lelouch answers "Ho, is that so?". I thought it was a fantastic exchange.
Sakurai: As for me, it's the final episode of "R2". It lingers on in your heart. The characters' resolve came through loud and clear, and it really got to me.
Taniguchi: All the episodes are important to me, so I can't choose one. If I had to say something... at the end of the recording session of the final episode, the staff, on their own initiative, gave out flowers to all of the cast members. I was happy to see that "Code Geass" has its own special place in the hearts of the staff and cast who have been involved [in the project] for so long. Thank you all for the hard work!
All: Thank you for the hard work!!

Icon commissions available!
Hello, and good evening! I’m in a bit of a tough spot financially at the moment,
I specialize in making simple 100x100 RP icons.
10 cents per icon, so $10 for 100 for example (I might consider adjusting this number if I make a ton of icons to be slightly lower, but this is unlikely) These icons will be published publicly; if you want this to be private (available only to you) I will up-charge you 5 cents per icon (so $15 for 100)
I am willing to icon virtually any source, including that of most “problematic” media or N/$/F/W things like an h-manga or films showing graphic scenes (I’m not stranger to iconing things most dislike just for a FC, so I understand what you want) and even full out dead dove content.
As a preview: 12 100x100 icons and 6 full sized icons!

I know it's been mentioned a couple of times in interviews that G-Witch was only ever approved for 25 episodes, but not everyone reads those, and a majority of Gundam shows did receive ~50 episodes (with the exception of 0079 and After War X, which were cut short), so that might be influencing people's thinking.
Tumblr media
That's probably another factor, yeah. I've only ever watched one other thing Okouchi's written (the anime film The Seven Days War), and the ending did feel a little abrupt (though, for what's it worth, I do think the ending of G-Witch is actually better written than some people give it credit for, particularly how it brought closure to the actual main plot that started back in the prologue, but I digress).
I can't help but wonder though, given how Episode 15 feels like an odd fit with the rest of the show, was it always meant to be centered on Guel with minimal inclusion of both Shaddiq and Miorine, or was that a product of executive interference in response to Guel's popularity and the perceived 'need' for G-Witch to have a 'traditional' Gundam episode, even though that wasn't the story it was trying to tell?*
Tangentially, yeah I've heard that about Code Geass, which is a major reason why I'm not exactly keen to watch it, despite the praise I've heard for it. On a more positive note though, between Princess Principal (from what I've heard anyway), Seven Days War**, and now G-Witch, it does feel like Okouchi's been making a genuine effort to apologize for being weird about lesbians in the past, and I think it'd be pretty great for some other writers/artists to copy that.
---
*Never mind the fact that it's completely up for interpretation what a 'traditional' Gundam episode should even look like, given that no other show in the series seems to have the same 'vibe' as the original.
**I swear I'm not trying to shill this film as the greatest thing ever or anything, but I do think it's seriously underrated.
Really wondering where the “Witch from Mercury was cut short” rumors started, given that the series was announced as a twenty-five episode (including the prologue) production from the beginning.
