so i havent been on here real-time much lately (most of my posts are queued) bc ive been adjusting to my OCD medication (ᵕ—ᴗ—) it really makes me drowsy and i'm already a sleepy girl so i keep getting knocked out lmao and yes, after 27 years, i finally got the guts to go to a psychiatrist lol. the reason why i did is bc i had a medical check-up and even though it was normal and the highs and lows were not worrisome, my mind js went haywire. but this isn't the first time, i was always like this. ive mentioned a bunch of times i studied biology and our school required yearly medical check-up and yearly i would lose my mind over it. i'd downplay it to overthinking. fast forward to now, i can't function without any music, movie, or podcast playing in the background. i always need something to overlay my thoughts that are always centered in anxiety. when i leave our house i would suddenly question whether i locked the doors and gate, turned off the stove, or pulled out the plugs. if my cat was home alone, i'd contact my mom to check the cctv what he was doing cause i was worried he was poisoned or sumn.

when i first shared this to my mom, i got the typical 'you just need to pray more'. so i waited for her and my siblings to be out of the city to visit a psychiatrist. lo and behold, i got diagnosed with OCD and got prescribed anti-anxiety and antidepressants. i walked out of there and stuff started to make sense. why i crash out when my routine's not followed, why i have the innate need to do things specifically and refuse to do stuff in a different way. and while i'm happy that the meds worked and finally my mind could shut up for once, i still worried abt hiding this from my mom.

eventually i did tell her and at first she was like 'it's all in your head, you js have to know how to deal with it' and i was like you know it's not, you know i was like this in college i would freak out waiting for results. btw my mom is a psychology degree holder so this is frustrating to me until she said she studied psych to understand the mind. she was like me too and ig she found refuge in praying. but i told her my mind is not normal anymore, i cant keep thinking abt our house burning bc i forgot to turn off the gas or getting ransacked bc i forgot to lock the door. then she said she was like this too bc her dad/my grandfather would also think he had a terminal illness from js a headache. would have a faith healer come and put leaves on him or something and had my mom carry some type of amulet for protection when she was in school. rn, my grandfather is also taking antidepressants, im not sure what for so i js told her mental illness is hereditary. that i think it's better that i got diagnosed early on rather than later bc i might god forbid become psychotic. i told her im not going to be dependent on the medication and that i will eat healthier and exercise until the dosage is smaller.

after that, she accepted it and offered to pay for my medication ദ്ദി ༎ຶ‿༎ຶ ) which is great bc the healthcare in this country is expensive as fuck.

i think i js wanted to share this bc everything is going super slow with me and the medication is toning down my emotions which is like one chamber of the heart of drawing. i will still continue to draw and take commissions ofc, it's my spine, it was my free clonazepam and fluoxetine lol, js a tad slower. hopefully i'll get well soon and also, i hope those who are afraid to seek mental help, you have my support (*꒦ິ꒳꒦ີ)♡

okay well the difficulty is that upon rewatching bbc sherlock my initial response was that the characters had family conflict but no obvious melodramatic family *trauma* and given my normal tastes it was actually quite refreshing to just leave those themes unexplored, an opinion which was vindicated when the show's final episode gave sherlock one of the stupidest tragic backstories known to mankind... but unfortunately on closer inspection sherlock IS kind of giving orphan, and john has an estranged sister with a drinking problem and never mentions his parents once and i can't help but feel like there's a story there, and frankly moriarty's "murdered his parents" vibes are off the charts. so you see my problem here don't you

I think Van Helsing's warning here shows an important question repeated throughout the book: people are depending on you, even beyond their own knowledge of it, are you able/fit to handle the responsibility and the consequences of your choices (and mistakes), even those made with the best of intentions?

This warning is made directly after their choice of leaving Arthur out of the situation proved to be a wrong move (entirely thanks to Arthur's ability to see Through The Bullshit, not of them changing their decision). What would have happened if Seward had been the one to give the blood and the transfusion had gone poorly? If Seward hadn't been strong enough to give Lucy enough blood?

This warning is also made right before Van Helsing *leaves* Lucy in Jack's hands, right after hiding his suspicions and his knowledge about Lucy's mysterious illness, another choice made with the best of intentions but with very clear risks. Lucy is as much of Jack's charge as she is (and in some sense jack also) Van Helsing's charge, and he's leaving them both, a drained tired man and a sickly unconscious girl, to their fate with no knowledge of what they might be up against.

I would say van Helsing is talking to both Jack and himself as well with his warning.

I've been planning this illustration for over a month now - in April, I had the patreon folks vote on a theme for a big gravity falls print, and camping was the winner. Even just planning the general composition took a while, figuring out where I wanted all the characters to be. Once I shored up a good thumbnail, I made it tighter twice before putting it on paper, and working in pencil. The pencil drawing part took me four sit down sessions of drawing, and then coloring the scan took another couple of days. I worked SO DANG HARD to finish this monster before mc3, and by some miracle, I did.

Overall, I'm really happy with how this illustration turned out! I feel like it does a good job of expressing my love for the show. I'm really glad people were enthusiastic about it at the convention - I had a lot stop and look at it with these really awestruck, sad wet goo goo eyes expressions LOL! They did this: 🥺 with an actual human face dskjhlsdfkjh!!
