Got bored, figured I'd change the course of Elvin History for gits and shiggles:

We the people of the Lost Cities hold the firm, unchangeable belief in the unalienability of all people’s natural rights: life, liberty (the right to do any noninjurious act), property, and pursuit of happiness in any noninjurious manner. We present this petition, a declaration of revolution against the Council of the Lost Cities, and a constitution for millenia to come, with the hopes of true peace.

ON GOVERNMENT

There shall be three Councils: Judicial, Legislative, and Executive. Each Council shall consist of twelve people elected by the people, be they noble, working class, or Councillor, according to their qualifications for the position.

Each Council will consist of four individuals. The current Councillors (Alina, Bronte, Clarette, Darek, Emery, Liora, Noland, Oralie, Ramira, Terik, Velia, and Zarina) may choose which Council they go to and maintain their position or resign, their roles being replaced by elected officials.

The Legislative Council will make laws for the common good of the people, who reserve the right to petition for or against laws. The Legislative Council may only pass a law through unanimous vote. Laws can be amended to promote this. Upon approval by the Legislative Council, the law will be passed to the Executive Council, who will vote for or against the law, seeking a majority vote. If such a thing cannot be reached, the law will be passed back to the Legislative Council for revision or discarded if such revision cannot be made.

The Executive Council will have the final vote in whether or not a law is passed. Their duty will be to represent, protect, and serve as a collective body of magistrates which will only pass laws beneficial to the people. This finality and dependence on Legislative unanimosity is what provides them with the need for a mere 75% of votes for a law to pass.

The Judicial Council will be the Lost Cities’ court of law, with decision in guilt, innocence, and sentencing, after a trial with a jury and defense for the defendent. All punishments must fit crimes and all punished must be proven guilty. It is better for the guilty to run free than the innocent to be imprisoned.

All Councillors will be allowed to marry and bear children if they wish to do so.

No Councillor who has not reached the age of nineteen years may run for office or be elected.

ON EDUCATION

All children aged five through eighteen years hold the right to an education in a Primary (age five to ten), Secondary (age eleven to sixteen), and Elite (age seventeen and eighteen) setting, in subjects such as arithmetic, literature, the arts, science, multispecisial studies, history, agriculture, etc. Children of Secondary and Elite age will be allowed to attend Foxfire Academy regardless of special ability or lack thereof. Exillium will be a school for those who do not learn well in a traditional educational setting.

This is a reiteration: Talentless Prodigies reserve the right to an education in Foxfire’s Elite levels just as much as those who have manifested, as do Pyrokinetics.

Foxfire’s auditorium will be used for theatrical performances such as music, dance, plays, and musicals.

ON SPECIAL ABILITIES

No individual shall be prohibited from utilizing their special ability so long as the manner of usage is noninjurious. Pyrokinetics and Shades will not be discriminated against. Just as Telepaths and other special abilities have rules, so will Pyrokinetics. No individual shall be prohibited from or discriminated against based on practice of their special ability, nor shall they be discriminated against based on lack of special ability.

ON THE MATCHMAKING SYSTEM

The Matchmaking System is to be abolished. The only marriages which can be stopped or scorned are those in which one or both party is under the age of nineteen years or the parties are biologically related to one another. All individuals at or above the age of nineteen years reserve the right to a marriage based on mutual respect, trust, and affection.

ON EXILE, MIND BREAKS, and SIMILAR ISSUES

To shatter someone’s sanity is to commit an atrocity. All individuals, no matter how awful their actions, deserve consciousness. Exile is to be a containment and rehabilitation location and individuals are to be treated with dignity and respect. Lifelong Exile is only to occur if the individual’s death occurs before they are fit to reenter society.

Banishments for accidental crimes such as floods are to be lifted. Children who have not been taught better are not to be banished. Banished individuals must have the right to prove themselves worthy or reentry. Banishment is to be a last resort followed only by Exile.

CONCLUSION

We the people of the Lost Cities present all current Councillors with a choice: accept these terms or resign. We do not intend to cause violence or harm. Any Councillor who does not wish to govern under these terms is free to cease their tenure as a Councillor and return to a peaceful life without consequence from us.

Ranking Current Councillors by how Hot they are

Darek. obvi!! 🥵 How could he not be first I mean LOOK at that man. What I would give for him to even smile at me.. maybe one day. 😔

Terik. He gives more boy next door than Darek does but!! I would take it. His tits are POPPING.

Clarette. I do not have these sorts of feelings about women but she is very nice looking. I'm sure many elves would beg on their knees for a chance with her, and I suppose I could be one of them if I was a man.

Liora. Once during a public ceremony I SWEAR she looked at me and I am not sure I have ever blushed harder. I am sure it was just nerves but she does have very pretty eyes.

Noland. The only reason he is as low as this is because I don't find his ability very sexy. I don't find shouting loudly to be very hot, but to each their own. He does have a decent ass.

Zarina. I've heard chargers are VERY good in bed, and I hsve no doubt that Zarina would know what she is doing. She is also breathtaking.

Oralie. She is pretty in a girl next door way, much like Terik. She seems lovely, and if the rumors about Kenric are true, then I'm sure her pussy game is off the charts.

Ramira and Velia. They are tied because I simply can't choose which one I like more. Perhaps that is because I do not like women as I do men. They are both breathtaking, but they seem very serious. I'm not sure I could deal with that if I were to try secuding them (Which I would not! Because I am not a man!)

Emery. He is much too serious for me to feel much for him, even more so than Ramira and Velia. Telepathy is also not something I've ever much desired in a parter. I do not particularly want someone in my head while making love.

Alina. She is very rude, and unfortunately her looks do not much make up for it.

Bronte. Ew.

okay wait your lady gisela/alicorns post is circling my brain because i am thinking So Hard about just. the implications of being a polyglot in general Elf society. because reading clarette’s wiki page — and also her very brief profile in unlocked — and i’m just. consider my mind boggled. the Fitz Gets Stabbed scene is so core to my memory because i remember reading it and going woah. what about the language lady though. like obviously fitz Gets Stabbed. that’s very important. but also this councillor shows up and she can talk to the bugs???? that was everything. and it’s like!!!! polyglots usually have a second special ability, according to keeper canon, but i Distinctly Remember reading that and going “woag. that’s so cool. i’d kill to Just Have the Language Magic though.” and then you look at gisela and it’s like!!!! what is the extent of her Language Magic!!!

anyway i mostly rambled here but!! i think it’s rambling you’d enjoy, so. Polyglot Thoughts be upon ye 🫡

I was debating its uses in the alicorn hostage scene as I wrote that post. Because there's an alicorn language Sophie can translate--but is that applicable to all polyglots or because she's alicorn based? And even if it's widely applicable (Clarette demonstrates the ability to commune with animals), we've only seen the alicorn language mentally--in which case Gissy would have to rely on what Enlightened Silveny knows.

Polyglottism in broader society is so interesting though because how applicable is it? Most elves aren't encountering anything but Enlightened, and each species appears to only have one species/dialect/accent (which is highly likely just for the sake of simpler worldbuilding). So that's what, 5 other languages they might use?

If there was more contact with humans/the human assistance program continued I could see more of a use. They say telepaths were monitoring humans, but who they'd actually be able to effectively monitor is quite limited--you'd need a polyglot in there.

And then there's the whole thing with mimicking? It's not limited to polyglots (Keefe mimics prior to manifesting), but it's more associated--I wonder why they can do that. What they've used it for. Kinda like how vociferators don't seem to have a very practical application in their society. In what situation would an elf need to be able to perfectly mimic another person's voice. I'm sure there's some, but it seems rare

Would also love to know more about other double manifesters. Sophie's an outlier so she doesn't count, but we've got Cadence. And I'd like to know beyong that.

Of course from the human perspective we're all over the idea of polyglotism, but the linguistic worldbuilding of the Lost Cities is a little lackluster (to me), so I'm curious about it in-world. Anyway, woe, only slightly related response ramble be upon ye!

Short desc: Ariadne is a former/partially retired Council informant who grew up as part of the nobility. After going to exillium on an assignment as a coach she fell for an actual coach. Ensue a messy breakup as her intentions are revealed which she’s still not over

Backstory: Ariadne Varil was born into a lower noble family, as the middle of her siblings, never quite old enough to run with her older sister’s friends, most of whom were in the elite levels by the time she started tutoring, and too reserved to ever really fall in with her brother’s friends, all of whom were menaces in their own right, despite being only a year younger than her. She manifested quite young as a flasher, though never had much talent in her ability and excelled more in her other classes and areas of study. Her father was a low ranking regent, but his meager connections were enough to get her an internship type job going into the elite levels, working under the then Emissary Clarette.

As her education became more focused, she took more classes focused on politics and history, and had quite an affinity for seeing through the glitz and glamor in the upper echelons of the elven world and being able to analyze what it was and understand people’s positions. When she graduated she officially became an assistant to an older Emissary, one who’d long since established himself at the crux of Elven politics, though continued discrete communication and under the table work for Clarrette. She was never especially close with her family, and moved to an apartment in Atlantis nearly immediately after graduating. Her matching was handled as a quiet affair, she simply got her list, sat down for dinner with the eligible suitors, and talked it through with them. She never saw it as anything other than a necessary part of maintaining her status among the nobility and blending into the masses, and made that fact quite clear to her potential spouses. She eventually married her husband, though they continued living separately, leading their own lives and really only presenting as a couple when strictly necessary, especially for the first hundred years or so of their marriage. They each had their own aspirations and affiliations, and that was quite enough for them.

She was just over 200 years old when Clarette became a councillor, and she had been serving as a regent for some time. Her role got elevated to that of an Emissary and she was trusted with her first more important project than simply passing along the little whispers she could scrounge up. Without any official ways to keep track of elves that had either left or been banished from larger society, she went simply to gather information in one of the larger communities, posing as someone who had become disillusioned with the Lost Cities and couldn’t “stay in their crystal palaces” anymore. The plan had been to stay for a century, long enough to engrain herself and pass along valuable information, but it got cut short when her cover was blown less than halfway through her assignment. She managed to get out and return home, but not before picking up some rather obvious scarring. Ariadne moved in with her husband for the first extended period of time, and took quite a bit of time to herself, recuperating on her new estate that she’d been absent from up until that point. She was a bit conflicted, after all despite her unfortunate parting spending time away from the Lost Cities had been eye opening to her and it was odd being back without anyone to really talk about what she’d seen. It’s why when she was presented with the opportunity to work on another longer term mission, this time based in Exilium, she agreed, becoming one of the coaches of the program. There she met fellow Coach Nikola, and took an immediate liking to her for how genuine she seemed. It was refreshing after her time spent back in elven upper society, and rarely did Niko ever mince her words or hide what she was feeling. Ariadne’s job at Exillium was simple, be eyes to report back anything that might be happening among the students and fit in as a coach, but growing closer to Niko she saw just how much the other coach cared about the kids, even if the culture of the program dissuaded her from showing it. Seeing someone with such passion for carving their own path against the grain, trying against all odds to do good, when Ari had simply been skating along and following orders her whole life, dealing with information she was rather detached from, it was a change, and a bit of a wake up call. She wasn’t really all that surprised as she developed feelings, she’d had feelings for colleagues and acquaintances before, but her marriage for the match and duty to her job had always prevented her from doing much more than acknowledging them. Here, under a name that wasn’t quite hers, with someone quite interested in holding her accountable, she had no such obligations, and fell into a relationship of sorts, even partially moving into Niko’s apartment after some time had passed.

Of course all things come to an end, and some of the students at Exilium had been not so discreetly planning some illegal activities as a way to get back to the council. It’d come to the coaches attention, and consensus lead by Niko was to let it diffuse naturally. Of course the kids were bound to be angry, but they were all talk and needed a place to vent their righteous frustration. Privately, Ariadne disagreed and after a bit of internal debate reported it up through her pipeline. It was dealt with by the proper authorities, resulting in punishments being meted out and the kids written off from most chances to rejoin the lost cities, but in the process Ariadne’s role in it was revealed and Nikola realized she had just been there as an informant and thus felt rightfully betrayed and angry. They had a singular blow up fight before Nikola resolved to icing Ariadne out, something that worked as Ariadne was back in the lost cities within the year. She now has whatever the elven spy equivalent of a desk job is, attending functions and keeping an ear to the ground, but otherwise has very little to do. Despite time having passed since, she’s quite conflicted about the whole thing, feeling just bad enough to have the seeds of discontent slowly sowed. Angsts about her estate, is rather dramatic with the whole situation and feels isolated at this point. She’s currently working as simply someone with her ear to the ground at galas and whatnot, the elven spy equivalent of a desk job, but is a bit resentful of the whole thing not quite sure how she feels about it all.
