So awhile back, I flipped through a bunch of those create-an-OC challenges that have circled around YouTube--'cuz I wanted something new to do--and I came across a "let's make a creepy doll OC" that sparked some artistic inspiration. The original prompt is from Unastrana on Instagram. Finally had the energy to finish this! Kinda happy with her.

What's this doll's backstory? I'm not entirely sure yet, tbh. But I've been calling her Elaine~

A Send Your Own Tribute Hunger Games Story

My take on the send your own tribute hunger games fics that were pretty big a few years ago. Everyone can request/create 1-2 tributes (depending how much traction this gets maybe more), please keep in mind it would be great to have variety, not everyone can be a good hero. Also please try to keep things realistic, if you're from District 1 or 2 you probably won't be very nice, if you're from poorer districts or are younger you won't have as many skills as the careers etc.

If you don't want to create a tribute but still want to participate you can be a judge or sponsor, which will be involved in who dies/wins in the game. I will go more into detail on this after applications.

Creating a Villain in the DCU

Villain or Hero: Villain

This OC comes from Old money, something happens which causes his metagene to activate while he's intoxicated, he is physically enhanced but cannot control it, a glass cannon if you will, Batman gets to him, and he ends up losing the left side of his body, his arm, his leg, part of his lung and ribs. While rotting in Arkham he meets Bane, and gets the idea of using outside influence to enhance his body so he's normal again. Breaking out with the help of Ivy, maybe he sympathized with her, he makes his way back to his parents, blaming the bat for his incarceration and disfigurement, like what happened with Harvey dent in the Heath Ledger Movies where he pinned the death of Dent on Batman. His parents, learning that he was out drinking with friends when this happened and wasn't ROBBING A BANK like witnesses and the Bat claimed, they sued Arkham and the justice system, as well as the "witnesses" who didn't actually witness anything. Using the money they start producing shit for amputees with the metagene. "Insert Villain" ends up targeting and killing his parents, while he was in Metropolis, meeting with Lex Luthor about funding, upon his return he is again, captured and thrown into Arkham, this time, with his enhancements. At 29 he breaks out, spends his first birthday outside of Arkham alone, and tracks down those that incarcerated him, again, and those involved with his parents murder. Killing them in front of the Bat, while mocking him. From the Bats Perspective: A meta is causing an issue, very much obviously intoxicated. Ends up falling threw a bank window with his equally intoxicated buddies. The Bat brings him to a hospital, dropping him off outside Oracle calling in that a wounded meta was left by the front doors, he's 23. He gets convicted, Batman is trying to figure out why, someone is pulling the strings to create a villain. Brucie Wayne Donates to the cause, to help him get prosthetics that will assist with his enhancements, Batman does research and sends blueprints through Wayne Tech to assist. Bruce meets with the parents during his trip to Metropolis, and is the last known person to have seen them alive. Bruce has an alibi in the form of several public speeches of his support of the family. Tried to argue in court that Micah was out of state in Metropolis, no one listened. Working behind the scene with Red Hood to find who is making them, only to be faced with him years later, using an alias "Genesis."

Let the Reader Know Something the Character Doesn’t

This is how you make readers scream at the book. Let them know the murder is waiting just beyond the door. Let them see the traitor slip poison into the drink. Let them watch helplessly as the character walks into a trap. The best tension isn’t just about surprise, it’s about dread.

I forgot how lonely it is to write original fiction.

Where are the kudos? The subscriptions? The comments? The people cheerleading me chapter to chapter? Where are the kind words and compliments and reassurances that what I'm writing isn't complete crap? Where are the unhinged emojis? The asks on Tumblr? Where are my mutuals in my dms apologizing for not reading the latest chapter right away (side note, you know you don't have to apologize at all, right??). Where is the fanart? Where are the recs?

Where is my motivation to keep going?

It's something I've been thinking about a lot, actually, lately. How the experience of writing fanfic is so unique. How you already have an audience, willing and waiting and captive. And that's really it, isn't it? You have an audience. It's almost performative, writing fanfic. It's being on a stage, a one-person show (or two, if you do it with a friend); it's getting live reactions to your performance, it's feeding off the energy of the crowd and informing it back in a feedback loop; it's improvised, sometimes, in almost-real-time. It's building something that you couldn't have built by yourself. A thing that takes on a life of its own.

It's an experience you can't get writing original fiction, and, honestly, not having it is making it hard to write something original at all.
