My siblings and I wanted to participate in My Singing Monsters' Creator Costume Contest, so we all worked together to create these amazing designs!

Sundae Best was my contribution to the event: A costume for Buzzinga inspired by a caramel brownie sundae!

Synthetic Sakura was developed by the eldest of my two brothers, Wolfie (Dracowolf), as a costume for Auglur. It turned out so cool and I am so proud of him!!!

Sweet as Sugar was my sister's work (Cryptobyte). I thought the fortune cookie idea for Yooreek's head was really unique, but she kinda went off the rails with the dessert theme heheh.

Lastly, my baby brother (Pouk) made Sweet Dreamzz. The night theming is super cool and matches cherubble's sleepy aesthetic nicely!

(I was responsible for the artwork on my design, while Wolfie helped the younger ones digitize their initial concepts)

We had a lot of fun working on this project, and here's to hoping that it noticed by the folks over at BBB! Happy Monstering!

Second Round - Day Seven (Gonk) 1 of 2

Bright and early, the household wakes up. Room order was randomised with Arista and Evelyn getting the ground floor suites. A wheel was spun for type of shower the contestants would have (opportunity for energised, flirty or inspired moodlet) and whether they would brush their teeth (possible confident moodlet). Once they are finished getting ready they're sent to breakfast. Autonomy is toggled on and room doors are locked.

The order the contestants arrive at breakfast matters a little. Deanna compliments each of them in the order they arrive. Those who are talked to early seem to have more chance of fitting in autonomous socials with Deanna. They might fit in a joke, flirt or gossip between her complimenting others.

Evelyn and Arista arrive for breakfast first, where Arista spontaneously makes some mermaid noises.

Arista: Sorry about that, it's involuntary

Evelyn: Fascinating! Do all merfolk have it as an involuntary reflex? Like how erratic people will just hiss sometimes

Kristina: I heard that. It's not like I hiss at nothing you know

Yasmine: But what do you hiss at Kristina? Nothing I can see

Kristina rolls her eyes while Nephinae and Nicola sit down with dramatic sighs.

Deanna: Nicola, Nephinae, are you okay?

Nicola: *sighs* I don't want to talk about it

Nephinae: *stabbing breakfast* Just feeling extra hot headed this morning

Evelyn: Is it true that all merfolk come from Atlantis or is that a myth?

Arista: I'm probably not the best mermaid to ask. I'm not a massive fan of the ocean. I prefer steady land

Yasmine: There's a lot on the land to enjoy, but we have to look after it and our oceans

Nicola: Henford is good for getting back to nature

Nephinae: If you really want to help the planet, I recommend thrifting

(Thrifting i.e. second hand clothes shopping)

Kristina: I'm not a massive fan. I got a lot of hand-me-downs as I was growing up so I like getting to pick my own stuff

Nephinae: But you can pick your own stuff when you go thrifting! Just look at my outfit

Deanna: It is very nice but I can also see Kristina's view, the hand-me-downs can make you less enthusiastic for clothes other people have worn

Yasmine: But you don't even know who had it before you when you're thrifting. It's great for the planet

Arista: And it's a great way to find clothes that help you stand out rather than be overlooked *turns to Kristina* I come from a big family to. Seven of us kids

Kristina: *gasps* I thought growing up as one of six was hard

Evelyn: I'm glad I have my younger brothers, but I can see how more than two could be difficult

Nicola: There's only me and my brother but I'm sure with my attitude it sometimes felt like he had several sisters

Yasmine: Wait... your family are foresters? That's horrible

Kristina: Oh no it's really quite eco friendly! They work in the renewable forests around Moonwood. So once they cut down and remove trees, new ones get planted in their place

Evelyn: That would help if you're not wanting to run out of trees

Nicola: I did a science unit with my class recently. You'd think mature trees produce more oxygen but actually actively growing trees do. They need more glucose so they photosynthesize faster, meaning more oxygen

Nephinae: Plus we need timber for building and making things

Arista: Well if they're replanting as they go that would mean the trees can absorb more carbon dioxide, which has to be better overall for the environment

Deanna: It's not as if they go and cut down the rain forests but I understand being concerned Yasmine

And then in a surprising move, back tracking on her earlier statement, Arista leaves the house. She jogs all the way to the beach to go for a swim... we do have a pool.

The rest of the household stays talking after their breakfast until it's time for a costume change.

Devin: Hello everyone and welcome to Tartosa Gym. Today's challenge was picked by our pa, who is a fitness fan. Each of you has been tasked with completing the beginners endurance challenge on the rock wall. Fastest time wins. Good luck everyone

Devin hands it over to Aaron who gives a brief tutorial on how the rock wall works. It operates like a vertical treadmill, ticking over as contestants get closer to the top. Aaron takes everyone through some pre climb stretching to warm up, we need to be safe after all.

Aaron: I've picked this challenge because love is a marathon, not a sprint. You have to keep putting in the work if you want it to thrive. I'm looking forward to seeing who wins

Devin directs everyone to the right walls and the cameras position themselves.

Aaron: Any guesses who might win this one?

Deanna: I think Yasmine has a good chance, she's always exercising around the villa. If not her then probably Kristina, she must have climbed loads of trees growing up in Moonwood Mill

Aaron: Care to tell me who you want to win?

Deanna: Sure pa! One of the girls

Aaron: *laughs* Alright smarty

Arista: ... oh. Oh no.

Evelyn: Oh yikes, tried it once and it went not great. I'll try my best though...

Nicola: I'm glad I picked up that skill book at the villa, because other than that I have no experience with this. Some kids growing up would climb the rocks up the side of Cordelia Falls when we were kids, but I always had a fresh manicure and it seemed a little dangerous. At least these rock walls are inside and there won't be any bugs.

Yasmine: I’m excited. My core is so strong from all those pushups. It’s like I’ve been  prepping for this moment.

Kristina: I would prefer if we were climbing a real rock wall than an indoor one, but this is the kind of challenge where all my years climbing trees with my brothers should come in handy!

Nephinae: I have already accepted I will be last place. It's okay.

In a surprise upset, Kristina is the first to fall off the wall. She's closely followed by Evelyn who was unable to keep up with the challenge. Another shock, Yasmine was unable to complete the challenge as well. But she did all those sit ups? Guess she didn't spin a brisk shower today though… Nephinae takes it slow but manages to finish. 39.19 is not an impressive score BUT it is a finish.

Two contestants left, Nicola and Arista. Fully back in her human form Arista conquers the wall in 28.29 seconds! Is it enough? Nicola puts her all into the challenge and finishes in 27.85 seconds! That's it, Nicola is the fastest! But she's already had a date so bonus points for her. Arista would then win but she has also had a date… Does that mean slow and steady Nephinae is actually the winner?

Evelyn: Makes sense. Well, I tried my best!

Kristina: I knew I'd prefer an outdoor climbing challenge, but I still thought I could win this one

Evelyn: I thought you started great

Kristina: Thanks. Congratulations to Nicola though - today just wasn't my day

Evelyn: So if Arista came second does she get bonus points?

Kristina: Surely not. I mean second place doesn't normally get anything? Wouldn't be very fair to other groups

Yasmine: I had fun out there, but rock climbing is tough! Some of these women are so fit... 

Devin: They are indeed

Yasmine: A little bit surprised all my sit ups didn't push me over the edge to victory though *laughs*

In December 1994 Wizard issue #40, there's a Ghostrider costume with its head in fire. On the SAME page there's a Milk and Cheese cosplay… I feel like in my SOUL this inspired the halloween issue (unstable molecules). Especially since the first panel of Unstable Molecules explicitly mentions a Wizard’s costume contest.

It’s all blurry. But I can imagine as Dorkin looks at this he's suddenly hit with an Eltingville idea… if I were a creator and knew someone cosplayed my niche characters, I’d check them out, alongside whatever is in the same space.

Summary:

New month, new worries and pains in the ass to deal with. That includes Adriana being automatically put on Vil's team for Eurovision meets Coachella a continent-wide singing and dance competition alongside Epel in order to repay him for the room and board in his dorm. He claims that's the only way she can repay him for she has some gifts that even she isn't aware of...despite thinking that he is full of it.

As the day of the competition draws closer and closer, Adriana must contest with: a deranged cult leader, a sexist creep, personal relationship drama, strife between team members, a new job, and pulling Vil out from his self destructive spiral before it's too late. On the plus side, at least she gains new friends, including one she starts to fall for.

Extra Notes: This is an AU where Night Raven's a university, so all of the NRC and RSA characters are 18+.

Quick-Fire Headcanons (9)

The first time Simeon cursed out loud was when he woke up after a blizzard had occurred.

Asmo and Levi have coordinated costumes before since they both love getting into whatever character they’re dressing up as.

Lucifer will go to an amusement park just to watch all the shows and entertainment (he runs a secret blog where he rates and critiques every performance that he sees).

Mammon will literally throw a fit if he finds out that game rules he grew up with are not the official rules (and accuse people for lying, even the creators of games).

If Belphie is left in charge of handing out items on Halloween, he will just pull random stuff out of his room and give them to people.

No matter how hard he tries, Satan always wins in the Honorable Mention category in a costume contest.

Solomon considers any song created within the century that he’s living in as current.

Simeon is shy about the type of music he likes listening to, because he enjoys artists like The Weeknd.

Simeon and Solomon get into all kinds of hazardous positions in order to take a great picture (and Luke yells at them for it).

Until MC was a regular part of his life, Barbatos refused to be photographed for anything unrelated to work.

If Diavolo doesn’t have to worry about his responsibilities, he will make the biggest mess at a party.

Simeon leaves most events early because he gets overwhelmed quite easily by the amount of people and noise.

Satan and Belphie have told scary stories to children before; Satan knows how to make them kid-appropriate, and Belphie does not.

Mammon often forgets promises he’s made because he has no memory of making them, even if he did it earlier that day.

Lucifer and Diavolo were once spotted at a convenience store together on January 1st because they were looking for ingredients to cure their hangovers, and Barbatos was sick with a nasty flu and thus couldn’t prepare ahead of time.

Solomon could blackmail high-ranking officials in all three realms if he wanted to due to him keeping tabs on everyone he interacts with.

Beel cannot keep a secret because the act of doing so makes him really uncomfortable.

I want you to imagine something. You work for a big name film studio and Peter Jackson has just come to you saying he wants to make Tolkein's "Lord of the Rings" into a series of three films. He starts talking about cost - actor wages, costumes, horses, air fare to New Zealand…

Would you, for a second, dream of cutting him off and telling him "You don't need that. You can just go to Value Village, make a few hobby horses, and film it in the local park"?

Don't get me wrong, doing LotR in the park on a $3 budget could be wicked amounts of fun. I won't even say it wouldn't have "artistic merit". After all, Shakespeare has been performed in parks with no scenery and actors in street clothes and people have paid to see it. Hell, I've paid to see that! It was awesome. So why not?

But if your artistic vision is Peter Jackson's "Lord of the Rings", then "Peter Jackson in the Park" is not going to give you a lot of artistic fulfillment.

So why is it that when experienced artists start talking about what they need to spend, not in general on their hobby (most can be done dirt cheap, especially if you're in FAFO mode), but to execute a specific project at the level they want to execute it, there are times people with no idea of their vision (and frequently no experience with the craft) will jump in with "Naw, you don't need all of that. Just go to Value Village or the dollar store." I mean, seriously? Do you really think that if I could get or make what I need for $3 I'd be looking to spend $25 on Etsy?

And the variations on this theme just don't get less annoying! "You don't need to find a nice, Renaissance looking dress. Just upcycle something or hit the clearance table at JoAnn and make it yourself." I'm sorry, but my name is not Bernadette Banner. I do not make costumes for a living. Yes, with some help I can manage a simple, unisex waistcoat from McCalls, but that's it. And the only time Value Village or Goodwill or places like that have a high likelihood of stocking anything that can be adapted is Halloween. I'm trying to do this in August! Good luck!

I think my favorite is "You need a Renaissance looking dress for a princess costume? I just made my six year old a princess outfit using an old sheet and some construction paper. She had lots of fun with it!" Um. Yeah. Don't look now? But when July gets here, six years old will have been forty years ago for me. If you were trying to take the most professional looking fantasy pictures you could, would you make that costume for yourself? Is that what you'd wear to win a costume contest a Ren fair? I'm glad your six year old can enjoy her toys, but I'm not just trying to play princess here! I'm not even just trying to 'make art'! If I were, sure! I would totally go FAFO on some Dollar Store stuff! That would be fun and I could undoubtedly turn out something awesome!

But I am trying to fulfill a very specific artistic vision and "middle aged person trying to recapture the whimsy of youth" is not the vibe I'm going for!

It doesn't even matter if the artist was just grumbling about the budget. Unless someone specifically asks for help doing something on the cheap or says they need to find a way to cut the budget, these comments are not helpful or supportive or whatever the people making them think they are, they are rude and dismissive. Don't do it. Please.

Creators know what they need. They know what it costs. They know what they can do on the budget they have. If the Dollar Store will do (or is all they can afford), they'll have already taken that into account already. Promise.

Introduction

To any unfortunate readers, these writings will be my litany to distract from my nightly troubles. My creation of Scarecrow was meant to expose the elite as the true conspirators behind Gotham’s economic disparities. But sleep is no longer sufficient. The night terrors are routine. I try to manage by spending my time on vigilantism, academic pursuits, writing, and painting. But learning to cope is different than healing. 

I almost have the inclination to denounce my family name; but for solidarity, I’ll introduce myself as Jonathan Crane. I was born into a life of material privilege as the sole heir of Crane Industries, a pharmaceutical corporation that is weaved effortlessly in the fabric that suffocates the illusion we create about the American Dream. This wealth was the source of my childhood hell, lost in the vacuum of decaying costumes of beau monde. My upbringing was the source of my pain—festered within a lack of warmth and a strict adherence to tradition, religion, and conservatism.  

You may ponder the implications. I’ll leave you to your hypotheses. But I estranged myself from my family to reside amongst impecunious citizens, where there is perpetual crime exacerbated by the antics of the Batman. I contest his crusade against petty criminals and thugs with the assertion that Gotham’s elite are the problem. When Scarecrow began focusing on the elite, I dedicated the rest of my time to my theses: I concocted a psychoactive formula that could combat malady in the mind by harnessing the potent effects of fear. However, my former collaborator weaponized it after stealing it from me—yet another betrayal I’ve endured.  

Perhaps here I will find solace. Perhaps it will lay my troubled mind to rest, no matter how fleeting.

Hey, this is a Jonathan Crane/Scarecrow DC roleplay blog based on my original alternative universe version, exploring Jonathan Crane more as a morally grey/good vigilante rather than his (beloved) traditional villain role. I try to stay consistent with canon characteristics of his character accompanied by my own reimagined ideas of the character. I’m typically very intentional with my writing/lore/etc, but I hope to have fun being creative and conversing with those who interact with me! I’ll be open to chat-based roleplay and story-based roleplay!
