How To Catch a Con Artist

It takes skills to act and be really good at it. Faking pain, fake tears, faking a smile. More fake drama, more airtime. 🎭🎬😍🤳📷

I could never be an actress. It's something you pick and want to be good at it... or not. Regardless, you know the tricks to break into the industry and you make your choices. It's a gamble.

Now lets move to another more complex subject and I am not referring to the typical Hollywood celebrities. Let's talk about another type of actors. The con artists.

It takes some special type of skills to build a gang of fraudsters to get inside the most prominent social circles. It takes real skills to con their way in. Most of the time it's not their pretty faces that get them there. Sometimes they gotta entrap someone or find an easy prey; someone who is vulnerable to frame them and throw some dirt at them. Then they move into offering them help to get out that mess; so out of fear of public shame or humiliation the prey gets to be their new "friends" and one thing leads to other favors. Then it's time to introduce the con artist to the influential inner circle of the rich and super famous. It has the mark of money and thirst for power. Or sometimes it's purely to find an accomplice, an enemy from within (not a victim) that would help them to accomplish their inside job. Which is a form of racketeering.

We all know, relationships that are built on lies, manipulation or coercion, they always break apart from within. But perhaps we never get to see the full picture of what's really happening behind the facade. Perhaps there are others who were recruited to pay their deeds for favors done in the past and to keep the con artist happy and to climb the ladder they must follow orders and comply with their plans.

For example in the cases of kidnapping or forced compliance, when coercion and fear is very present, we see subtle signs of distress and sometimes physical abuse and body language that indicates someone has been coerced or it is under psychological pressure or manipulation and gas-lighting. In those cases however it's risky for the victim to come forward; who knows what kind of threats they made against them and their loved ones. So out of fear some of them remain silent and submissive. This is more of a forced type of relationship kind of situation. Not when people team up to target others or do something bad against innocent people or to steal, or commit other illicit acts.

To the contrary, when it's voluntary, in the planning and execution of complex con jobs, it does involve lots of money, status, politics or fame. In other cases it's about buying political influences sometimes through drug trafficking and organized crime syndicates. And there are the other dirty jobs to clean up the mess which could involve hit jobs (or murder for hire), financial frauds, "accidents", infiltration, criminal framing... etc. Anything goes from there. It's all about money, money, money and fame.

One important factor to remember is that the master con artist would avoid at all costs to take the blame; and he/she would pass it on to others doing work for them. Or they would first attempt to frame someone innocent or someone else who isn't related to the group so that way the crime becomes untraceable (nothing that can connect the master criminal to the crimes). It's called Blame Deflection or Transfer of Blame to avoid accountability. A very common tactic used by crime syndicates to carry out plots.

And for sure if you are an accomplice you may not survive to tell the story. They'll hide the body though. So pick your friends carefully or the criminals will pick you.

My absolute favorite trait about Dick aside from his craziness is his ability to control every single person in existence. The best part is, he's so clever in the way that he does it that people almost never notice.

With friends and family he does it to make them feel better without being so overt and discomforting them.

Jon came to him when he was feeling lost and upset and Dick set up the perfect conditions to encourage him and pick him up. He's just so good at doing what he's doing but he does it for all the right reasons.

But the extent Dick can go trick and manipulate someone is off the charts. A virtuoso.

In a Titans comic, Dick literally spent MONTHS acting depressed and weak after Donna, Wally, and Garth were kidnapped to another dimension by a villain just so he could trick the villain into thinking that his career was over and bring him into the same dimension so Dick could take him down.

He fooled everyone.

That means he was so extraordinarily manipulative, he can control his own thoughts inside his head to trick someone else. Voldemort's legilimens has nothing on Dick's talent.

His acting is just so on point that he outschemes the schemer.

When the Crime Syndicate (Superwoman, Ultraman, Owlman, Power ring, etc) arrive on Earth to take it over when Dick is Batman, Dick needs to do something fast. But to make things worse, there's a being that's so powerful, that both the Crime Syndicate and Justice League combined have a snowball's chance in hell of defeating him.

So what does Dick do? He runs the game.

I love how they characterized Owlman as a snake because that would make Dick a mongoose since mongoose eats snakes. And do you know what Mongoose represent in folklore? Action, adventure, boldness, fearlessness, impulsiveness, independence, optimism, rebellion, resistance, resourcefulness, speed, adaptation, agility, quickness, intelligence and wit. All characteristics that define him.

He plays the world like a chessboard, always five steps ahead.

He always has an ace hidden up his sleeve.

His thoughts are always masked behind a disarming smile.

He has mastered the art of manipulation.

And that's while he's outright fighting. His subtlety is just so seductive.
