Selling / ordering keychains online

Hi all, hope there's someone out there that can help!

I'm interested in trying to sell some custom keychains, but I'm terribly new to this (I've only ever sold digital products) and hope someone can shed some clarity on these questions:

Do people have any personal experience selling art merch on Etsy or Ko-fi? I'd love it if you could share what it's like, how you determined pricing/shipping, etc.

I'm considering using Vograce or Melody Charms to bulk buy keychains - both are in China, though, and I've no idea if the crazy tariffs are going to change things / force me to pay more than expected. Does anyone in the US have any info about this?

Personal Data 1 My first encounter with Shiina was an accident... If she hadn't splashed me with water by chance, I might not have entered the bar she works at, and I wouldn't have know that even minors are allowed there. I became interested in Shiina's bartending skills, and Shiina was looking for customers who could taste-test her "mocktails", so I made a deal with her.

Personal Data 2 Shiina started by showing off her excellent bartending skills. During our chat, she talked about the reason why she became a bartender: in the past, her life was changed by an experience with alcohol. She was fascinated by the bartending skills of the owner of this shop, and hoped to inspire that feeling in others. Though she was shy about expressing these thoughts, it's a good aspiration to have.

Personal Data 3 During the cocktail-mixing process, Shiina showed the customers her flairtending moves that incorporated dance techniques. From this, I learned that Shiina had studied dance in the past, and even participated in many competitions... However, when I asked why she stopped dancing, Shiina hesitated to answer.

Personal Data 4 As Shiina and I got to know each other better, Shiina started to teach me more bartending techniques. She also reminded me that if I have ideas, I can try adapting recipes in my own way...

Personal Data 5 A customer's words seemed to remind Shiina of the past... Seeing Shiina somewhat frustrated, I tried to mix a special drink for her using the method she taught me. Comforted by the drink, Shiina revealed her true feelings: she still wanted to continue dancing. But, as she said, blissfully doing what you like is easier said than done.

Personal Data 6 The bar's owner left a registration form for a "Fancy Cocktail Competition" out for Shiina, but Shiina was very hesitant about joining... Taking this opportunity, she finally told me about her past. After participating in a dance competition, she was repeatedly heckled and criticized by the same man in the audience, which made her more and more afraid, and she eventually gave up dancing. This is also the reason why she's afraid of competitions. Although she seemed much more relaxed after talking about it, her desire is still...

Personal Data 7 While discussing a new drink with Shiina, the man who harassed Shiina appeared again, and this time he even began to criticize her bartending skills. Though I helped Shiina drive him away, if I let this go, Shiina's desires will definitely be stolen again. I can't let that happen.

Her desires have returned, and Shiina appears to have regained her courage to face things. Now, she's decided to blissfully do what she likes again.

Personal Data 9 Shiina decided to participate in the Fancy Cocktail Competition, and began to practice more for this purpose. Trying to mix a drink that meets the requirements of the competition, Shiina managed to get herself drunk... But this time, she seems very happy.

Personal Data 10 The competition is over, and unfortunately, Shiina didn't win... But Shiina was not discouraged, and excitedly told me all she learned from the experience. Perhaps to thank me for my company, Shiina created a cocktail for me based on her perception of me, although she had to serve me the non-alcoholic version... The name Solaris Pins was also the result of Arianne brainstorming with her friends. It is actually inspired by a tale we might’ve heard from our childhood!

“...Icarus, who flew too close to the sun because of his own ambitions. Although the story is a bit grim, my friend insisted that I should use it as inspiration and 'shoot for the sun,' just as Icarus did,” said Arianne. Thus, Solaris came to be: Sol from the Roman sun god and Ari, Arianne's nickname.

Starting a business is hard, so how did they do it? It’s inspiring to see young students take a huge leap, start a business, and continue to operate alongside prioritizing their studies and other extracurricular activities! 

“Being a student, I've found that the most difficult part of owning a small business is to balance my school, work, and personal life with how busy it gets. I learned to manage my time by adhering to a schedule and setting priorities for myself.” 

Arianne acknowledges the added weight of being a small business owner as a student but is here to give a lot of advice for students who are interested in starting their own business: it all starts with planning. It might be stressful but is crucial to set the pacing of your workflow, she said. Organization is also important especially with financial matters. “Don't be shy and advertise your products, try to make pubmats if you can! (Dapat makapal mukha, hehehe!)” she shared; confidence is often overlooked when talking about business. Last but not least, Arianne reminds us that it's okay to take breaks and to always prioritize your health and well-being. 

“As a student who owns a business, it has taught me how to manage time and have discipline. It has helped me set boundaries and practiced (sic) planning ahead. It has helped me keep up a good mindset because even small achievements motivate me,” Marla shared.

Having your own business will definitely teach you a lot of things! Marla's advice for you aspiring student-entrepreneurs is to start with something you're passionate about. She also reminds us to find the lesson in everything, “Take small steps and learn as you go. Each experience will teach you something valuable”. Marla's last reminder for us is to stay true to yourself and to enjoy!

Mati shared that by running charms miscellanea, she realized how much work needs to be put in the business to provide good quality service to her customers. “I also learned how truly important it is to enjoy your craft in order to continuously create new and improved products!”

Mati also shares that income is key to a business, but what's important is you enjoy the products you make! 

“It is more important, in my eyes, to keep in mind that the more fun you have when creating your products, the more thought you will put into them. The care with which you make your products is definitely evident, so always make sure to enjoy what you are doing! It feels so much more accomplishing when you see somebody wear and use the things you'd created with such care, rather than just when you remember how much money you made upon selling them,” she shared.

As a student-entrepreneur, Elle shared that she learned the importance of balancing different parts of her life. beadbadoobead helped her be more approachable and it enhanced her communication skills! “This business taught me how to deal with problems, failures, and how to make use of my success to succeed even more. It also gives me self-value as I’m doing this all alone. It’s such an eye-opener that a lot of people love my crafts and their suggestions is (sic) never a negative thing to take, instead it is something the business would benefit from and is something my customers would like to see me do.”

They say that good things take time. Elle shares that aside from love and passion, you also need patience to be a successful student-entrepreneur.

“Start with something you love, continue doing it with love and patience, and people will love what you do.”

It's inspiring to see these entrepreneurs start young and create their own business whilst being a student! Daunting it may be, we can see that these entrepreneurs enjoy what they do, we see the effort and love they give for to their products and customers, and we see the patience each one of them has for their business; it truly is admirable!

Where did you look to get custom keychains?? I’ve always wanted to try my own for myself and such but never knew how to do it or anything!

i went 2 vograce ta get the ones i just got :] although a similar service is held at melody charms!! i would say up front the first difference between the two is that at minimum on vograce you must order 3 whereas with melody the minimum is 1. my order with vograce worked out cuz some of my friends wanted a keychain as well jafdhjkadfa i think its definitely better suited for if you need ta make keychains or whatever else ta sell (since you'll needta buy em in bulk)! next time i have a keychain made for myself im gonna try melody since i only needta buy one :]

As of Yesterday the pre-order for these guys is officially over!! (I extended it a little because I had a few orders come in last minute so I wanted to give an extra day.) But thank you all so so so so much from the bottom of my heart for boosting and buying these guys. This is my first big contribution to the Cyberpunk fandom and first time ever selling my art like this!! I was originally gonna make these just for myself but some people convinced me to sell them and now I get to say that people are gonna be holding my work soon THATS CRAZY!!!

All characters ended up being funded (aka enough people wanted at least so that I could bulk order these guys) and I'm so excited to start production!! I EVEN GOT A COMMISSION FOR A CUSTOM V KEYCHAIN WHICH WAS WILD?!?!?!? I defiantly wanna do more things in the future but for now again, thank you and I can't wait to draw more cyberblorbos soon!!!
