!!SPOILERS FOR IN YOUR EYES FROM JD25!!

so, now that we don't have a story, I guess In Your Eyes will hold me over because despite it being a prequel map, I have more questions than answers

first off, I am a bit worried about how Cygnus having manipulated Leda into becoming evil will impact her eventual defeat- it just kind of feels nasty to say that Leda can be redeemed after all she's done, even if she was manipulated. there are ways this can be executed well, but I'm worried she'll be a "redeemable villain" which rubs me the wrong way about her character, especially since she knows she's not a good person

anyways onto the fun stuff:

-this first thing is on the same level as Treasure and Never Be Like You where there is a HUGE implication of a double meaning in the lyrics, I only caught it after 3 times and oh my god it's incredible: In Your Eyes is a song about cheating, which I initially took at face value, but once we get to the point where Cygnus has this whole mural of Night Swan in the background, it changes a bit. that mural?? Leda sure as hell ain't looking at it (but Cygnus sure as hell is)- and the lyrics at that point in the song are literally "I always look the other way, I'm blind, I'm blind" SHE'S LITERALLY BLIND TO HIS MANIPULATION SHE IS ACTUALLY LOOKING THE OTHER WAY WHAT THAT'S GENIUS

-so is Jack from Earth or??? like why was the Traveler looking at Earth anyways? he already knows Leda wants to stay (also- side tangent, what if the Traveler was looking for Leda and then found Si'ha Nova instead of him always having been looking for Si'ha??)

-did Night Swan and Cygnus cause Eternyx to become the Danceverse that was so heavily associated with Dark Flow? I NEED to know what the whole deal with Cygnus' mural is because if Eternyx wasn't always lowkey emo that would be crazy

-also, I have a feeling I know why Cygnus went after Leda specifically (is this going to inevitably draw back to a Mihaly parallel? now that I think about it, yes, yes it will): when Leda shows up in Eternyx, her glove is glowing like how it did in Murder on the Dancefloor- I have a feeling that everyone was so impressed with her because she pulled up out of nowhere with incredibly powerful Flow, hence the glove glowing, and so Cygnus found out and decided she was the perfect candidate because she happened to be so powerful and skilled out of nowhere; all he needed was a powerful enough candidate to help him execute his plans, and Leda, being new wouldn't have any idea of his plans, her immense potential meant she was perfect for his vision (again, it makes me think of Night Swan seeing Mihaly's potential but this ain't about them)

-brother why was the Traveler lowkey so dramatic at the beginning like look what you've done now Jack is spinning too 💀 (except this means that Jack wasn't waving, he was trying to figure out the cool ass spin move his maybe-dad just did)

-and i still am so curious about the fact that this takes place where Lose Yourself was supposed to- what was that place used for then?? how did it change once Night Swan took over??

MORE QUESTIONS!!:

-why did Leda go to Eternyx in the first place??

-so are Jack and Wander related or not?? (please it's so unclear)

-WHAT IS CYGNUS' MOTIVATION HELLO??? and also why was he acting so like "oh no my lover she's gone i need to see her again!!" in Beggin'?? YOU MANIPULATED HER TO BE THIS WAY WHAT (I have so many thoughts that I can't fit into a post)

I'm sure there's more to talk about but this is already a lot, so I'll stop here

I like it imagine that the name Cygnus has been passed down through generations of his family and that they've been running the city the whole time, so everyone has to clarify if they're talking about Cygnus (the guy currently alive), Cygnus (one of his recent ancestors), or Cygnus (the city)

New Just Dance theory: what if Cygnus is, in fact, not Jack's father... but rather, Sara's father?

Think about it. We know he works with Night Swan, so we can presume that, in addition to building his namesake city, he also helped build Swan Tower and the ship, and for him to gatecrash the Showdown like he did, it's likely he did it with Night Swan as his sponsor/enabler. It seems like something Night Swan would do, especially after what we see in Dance with the Swan, and I don't think she would've approved of her statue appearing so prominently on the LED screens behind him if it wasn't the case. So they seem to be in better terms than one would initially suspect.

On top of that, his introductory video ends with the following phrase:

Phrasing is key here. If he's been working alongside Night Swan all this time and she lives in and governs the city he built, then she's clearly not his lost loved one—otherwise he wouldn't be "beggin' to see her again".

Which brings us to what I think could have happened. We know he initially got Night Swan's attention through the time space Clock Tower from Bring Me to Life. Perhaps, at some point, Cygnus had an accident with the Clock Tower and ended up in the human world, falling in love with a local woman and eventually conceiving a daughter, before being pulled back into the Danceverses by Night Swan so he could go back to working for her.

From there, the subject would remain untouched for years until Sara is brought into the Danceverses and eventually faces off against Night Swan. This would prompt Night Swan to notice how much this unfamiliar human girl looks and dances like Cygnus (similar hair colors and eye shapes, and the upward fist pumping that Cygnus does in Beggin' kinda resembles a similar move Sara does), inquire him about it, and find out the whole story of how he got together with Sara's mom and wants to make it up to her for abandoning her and their daughter, because he didn't mean to; he genuinely loved Sara's mom, and only had to return because he was needed in Eternyx. Night Swan would then see the upcoming Showdown as the perfect opportunity for him to reach out to Sara's mom, and hijack it so Cygnus can spread his message beyond the Danceverses until it reaches her.

This would also explain why, in Dance with the Swan, Night Swan decides to take Sara under her wing and corrupt her into a "replacement heir", rather than just killing her or turning her into a regular Swan Soldier: because, by all accounts, Sara already had the blood of Eternyx flowing through her veins, and she just needed a little nudge to make it come through.

Okay look the Just Dance brainrot is strong and I am fully away that I am going full tinfoil hat here but HEAR ME OUT: What if this is Night Swan and Cygnus as teenagers

I mean I am building this entirely on vague color schemes and top hats but if you turn your head and squint.

Like if you give me two boys who are in love and who wear top hats I'm just gonna start making connections. Look at them tho! Imagine baby pre-Night Swan and Cygnus doing the whole star-crossed lovers thing!

...And then she fails as a ballerina and goes cuckoo for cocoa puffs. And clearly they broke up and he never got over her.

Not entirely sure I see him as Jack's father, though they both do have the red in common. And I suppose they do share a flair for the dramatic and an appreciation for bold lipstick.

Cygnus when he realizes a little song and dance number won’t erase the fact that he played a big role in helping someone rise to power and attempt to take over every danceverse in the name of perfection, built a trap then proceeded to trap two teenagers for whatever reason and probably more shit
