I got Kynseed, Verdant Skies, Rimworld, Drova, Bloomtown, Beyond Galaxyland and Sun Haven for Hanukkah this year. Many of them were on sale! I'm not one for getting presents on Hanukkah because it feels like pigeonholing it into Christmas and makes me uncomfortable, but my mom celebrates Christmas and she really wanted to get me something, and I wasn't gonna say no haha. I'm getting her stuff as well, I view it as like, we're sharing our culture kinda deal. But let me tell you, I'm holed up in my room and I'm never coming out! This coming from the dude who has 2000 hours on Stardew Valley. So far I have 14 hours on Kynseed and 10 hours on Sun Haven.
These games are DOPE. Bloomtown is very cool, too. It's less complex than the other two. Verdant Skies I haven't gotten into yet, I was kinda thrown off by the art style being so different to the other three, but I've heard it's very well-done. So far my favorite of them all is tied between Kynseed and Sun Haven, I'm literally playing them at the same time and hopping back and forth when I want a vibe change. Drova is more of an action RPG, I downloaded a mod to make me invincible so I could enjoy the game (disabled gamers reprezent). Beyond Galaxyland also has the skip puzzle option, but I still find it very clunky to navigate and have had to use video walkthroughs, so that one is probably not gonna be played as much. Rimworld I also found incredibly dense and full of menus which is something I expected, given the genre. But I'm having a hard time actually following the directions in the tutorial, it seems like the buttons aren't mapped correctly or my brain just doesn't find it intuitive at all. I loathe computer gaming so I've been happy with my current controls setup with both arrows and WASD to move, R for interact, F for use tool, space for dodge or jump, numbers on inventory.

Drova, surviving the Land of Legends with earplugs
🎮 Highlight from recent Drova - Forsaken Kin gameplay! Minor mechanics and exploration spoilers ahead.
While out exploring near the Remnants' Camp, I stumbled upon a corpse tucked away amidst some cliffs. Naturally, I raided the poor sod’s pockets and found… earplugs. The description read:
“Some noise just hurts. These wax plugs help with that.”
I equipped the earplugs, which slotted into the helmet gear slot. They muffled the game’s sound effects! Ambient sounds and footsteps were augmented because of it. I adore this attention to detail. Nifty, but I soon removed them.
Later, I went to harvest an unfamiliar plant, and it turned out to be a Mandragora (mandrake). I uprooted it and it flew around screaming at me. Painfully so. Fucker took 80% of my health in one go! After a couple failed attempts at shooting it out of the air, I recalled the earplugs and equipped them. Just like that, I approached the Mandragora, and it opened dialogue/action options to interact with the ugly little critter.
I’ve run into and promptly run away from a couple Harpies. Like a dolt, I curiously followed the sound of singing until I saw the flutter of wings at the edge of the screen. Nope! When I go back to take down a Harpy, I’ll make sure to put the earplugs in.
Curiously, helmets and hats are cosmetic only without any stat effects. The straw hat given to me by a farmer indicated as much. The earplugs, however, did not have this noted in its description and also use the helmet slot. So far, I’ve only come across earplugs from that corpse, but maybe they show up in a shop elsewhere. This is the kind of exploration and creativity I love to see in an RPG. It rewards interacting with the world and rewards giving things a try without beating you over the head with what you’re supposed to do. Thanks Just2D!

Unveiling the Roadmap for DROVA - Forsaken Kin: Grim Celtic RPG

DROVA - Forsaken Kin grim dark pixel RPG game for Linux, Mac, and Windows PC now has an Accolades Trailer. Thanks to the amazing creativity of Just2D’s team. Available on both Steam and GOG with its 96% Overwhelmingly Positive reviews. If you're already diving into DROVA - Forsaken Kin and like its grim Celtic world, you’re like what's coming. Deck13 Spotlight and Just2D are keeping the hype alive with some big, free updates rolling out in the next few months on Linux. This dark pixel RPG, praised by players and critics alike (96% positive on Steam), isn’t slowing down anytime soon. So now, the developers have shared an exciting roadmap of what’s coming up. To kick things off, they’ve released a new Accolades Trailer to celebrate the game’s glowing reception. Fans have been asking for more—DLCs, expansions, a sequel, you name it! But instead of rushing out new paid content, the team has decided to go big with free updates that bring new features and keep things fresh.
What's in the Pipeline?
Here’s a look at what’s coming over the next few month DROVA - Forsaken Kin grim RPG:
1. The Feedback Update – November
This first update is all about giving players what they’ve been asking for. The developers have been listening to the community’s feedback and are packing this update with some key changes:
A map for the caves under Remnants Camp, so no more wandering in the dark.
A Legendary Slingshot for those looking to mix up their combat style.
Character resets via rare items, letting you tweak your build if you’re not satisfied.
Balancing tweaks and more little upgrades based on what players want.
If there’s been something you wish was in DROVA, there’s a good chance it’ll show up in this patch.

2. The Insane Update – December
Want a real challenge? This update is bringing a whole new difficulty mode. It’s not exactly New Game+, but it’s close. Enemies are getting some new moves, better AI, and extra strength to keep even the most seasoned warriors on their toes. Plus, you’ll have options to customize the challenge to your liking, so whether you’re a casual player or a hardcore fan, there’s something here for you.
3. The Flesh Rises Update – March
Now, this one is a bit mysterious, but it’s bound to bring something intense. All we know is that a grim new threat is coming to DROVA - Forsaken Kin, and it’s going to make things interesting. Keep an eye out for more info on this final major update in the current roadmap!
What’s Next for Just2D?
Once these updates are out, Just2D plans to turn their attention to their next big project. And while fans are eager for DLCs, Just2D has decided not to go that route for the grim DROVA - Forsaken Kin. According to Christian Sandkämper, Co-Founder of Just2D, the team sees that as a complete experience and wants to keep things that way. They’re not interested in just adding paid content for the sake of it. Instead, they want to make sure the title lives up to everything the community hopes for, and they’re using all the feedback to level up as a studio. So, if you haven’t already, grab your axe, sharpen those blades, and dive into the world of DROVA - Forsaken Kin grim dark pixel RPG. With all these free updates on the way, there’s no better time to explore its dark, Celtic-inspired lands. Available on both Steam and GOG. Priced at $24.99 USD / £22.99 / 24,99€ on Linux, Mac, and Windows PC.

Drova - Gritty and Delightfully Whimsical
🎮 I have been playing Drova - Forsaken Kin on SteamDeck and wow is it hard to put back down once I start a session. A 2d pixel RPG in the spirit of the Gothic games and Risen.
It’s old school, but not a pain in the ass. It’s difficult, but not punishing and unfair. It’s gritty, but delightfully whimsical.
The following contains minor gameplay spoilers.
Piss off certain NPCs and they might beat you up, withhold training, or not help you further. I kept picking the “grunts” dialogue option to a guy that only grunted at me. After a few grunts he trounced me!
I can pet every cat and dog I come across and interacting with them may have surprising benefits. One cat coughed up a ring in a hairball for me. How nice!

The world takes the plot seriously, but the game doesn’t take itself too seriously. Some of the NPCs, dialogue, and item descriptions are just plain silly. I even went on a crazy bender with a warrior and woke up in an animal pen missing all my gear. Cheers!
Only ten hours in across three play sessions and I’m hooked. Each time I think I’m going to save and put the game down, I end up down a rabbit hole of finding out what’s along this path, or completing a quest, or reaching a new settlement, or going back to smack around some bandits that I had to run away from earlier.
