Doodles I did on paper today since I left my bag with the iPad home.

I missed drawing on paper tbh. I tend to be more messy and unproportioned (since, y'know, no ctrl+z or tools) but I love the feeling of it all, from the pencil sliding on paper to brushing the eraser dust off (carefully not to smudge everything). Will do it more!

Now that I have your attention with this little graphic I use to censor drawings, there’s some things I want to say.

Mentally I’m doing better, but slipping into a manic state. Physically I’m not so good, still nursing this leg and dealing with digestive issues. Plus I’ve been getting no sleep and it’s catching up. I’ve been throwing myself into knitting as a way to deal with stress and having fun doing that. I’m nearly done with a sweater I’ve been working on.

I haven’t drawn in a few weeks (except for work) which is out of the norm for me. Truthfully I’m a little nervous about picking up the stylus again. But I have a few sketches in the back of my mind that I’m no way can be posted here. Even censored. But shit is going to hit the fan in my city this weekend so I don’t plan on leaving my apartment. So I might dust off the iPad again. Maybe I’ll do something sfw?

Right now I’m nursing a migraine and stomach ache. I’ve been awake since 2:30 am and have been doing 10 hour days at work. I need a solid night’s sleep. I could use a glass of wine too or a shot of vodka but I’ve quit drinking. I need to dump the rest of my booze down the drain, it does me no good. I have a peer support specialist now who helps with these urges and gives me wisdom and advice.

Oh and I’ve been working on a corpse bride cosplay that I have to say is movie quality. I have a con next month and will get pictures then.

heyyy I'm new to digital art, would you mind sharing some tips regarding programs and tutorials and etc? also on how to turn a real life piece into a beautiful and clean digital piece... really love your art

oh good luck with your art journey! my experience with digital art is pretty dated (as in a decade + levels dated) and i might be too out of touch to give beginner tips but regardless, allow me to attempt

Programs: it would help to know which hardware you have for digital but ill put down some i have experience in 1. Clip Studio Paint Pro - PC/Android/ipad/everywhere i think? unfortunately they betrayed humankind and its now a subscription everywhere but on PC. i bought a one-time license years years years ago on sale and its probably the best available on my end. I also got it on subscription on android so i can sync works between my PC and tablet. its very flexible in a way that you can draw with it in the most basic way single layer sketches or whatever but they have so many features and keep adding more.

2. procreate - ipad only never been an apple user but my friend is, and he's been a procreate user forever. he recently tried CSP on ipad though and he still claims he likes procreate better for ease of use and compatibility with tablet ergonomics and apple pen

3. medibang paint - pc/android/ipad

free forever. and out of all the free programs i recommended my other digital art newbie friend this is what he liked best.

4. adobe photoshop - dont even look at this the only reason i have one is im leeching off company license. its still unfortunately the industry standard tho but CSP is much cheaper and has the same controls and most of the basic functions 5. Paint Tool SAI - my first art program but i haven't tried it again. honestly still think this has the best brush flexibility and pen pressure control ----- As for tutorials, i find digital art has such a steep and high skill ceiling and its a challenge im still tackling and probably will forever tackle haha. I'm trying to osmosis painting techniques from splash art painters from League of Legends who most of them post complete timelapses (my favorite being Bo Chen) where you can study not just their techniques but like, art directions that make their pieces striking. Anyway, I also promised a friend I would make a simple coloring tutorial so maybe after inktober hustle, I would look for a piece there I'd use for the guide.

---- Traditional to digital is never a satisfactory process to me but if you can, invest on a scanner. I use an epson v39, had it for years.

scanned vs edited. the goal is to at least get the white of the paper as white as possible and the blacks the blackest, without whitewashing/burning the rest of the colors. Level correction function is your best friend here and most art programs have that.

Then i just clean dust and errors and slide the contrasts around until it looks as close to the original piece

If you have a decent phone camera, you can get away just posting instagram aesthetic pics with materials framing it or smth and just edit as usual. natural light tends to be a lot more forgiving than the harsh light of scanners anyway.

My iPad finally kicked the bucket this morning, and I lost pretty much all of my digital art (at least the unfinished WIPs) from the past 6 or so years of drawing. I managed to get a replacement and dusted off Clip Studio, but I'm understandably Very Upset (tm) and am currently coping.

Anyway, here's my oc Ivory and my first completed piece on Clip Studio in about 4 years. Expect a lot more doodles, style changes, and simple drawings over the next few months as I try and salvage what I can 🫠

OOOH QUESTIONS

[do I keep plants] Not really, but I keep flowers that people give me/are trinkets at fairs or smth. I have a dead one on my desk from a fair thingy that I totally need to throw away, and I have one in the freezer that was a gift from a fellow cast member of a play I was in. The one in the freezer still looks intact.

[what's my favorite instrument] Mysterious how am I supposed to answer this :( I play clarinet. I have an oboe that I'm trying to learn this summer, but I haven't been doing that a lot lol.

I have a list of instruments I want/want to learn. I used to play violin but I don't anymore bc we returned the violin and I would like to pick it up again. I'd also like to learn viola because it looks cool but apparently they have an entire different fucking clef?? called an alto clef??? like wtf why would they do that to me

I'd also like to learn saxophone. Either soprano, alto, or tenor, idrc. But it's a cool instrument. Id also like to play bass clarinet because it is literally the same as normal clarinet just Big. it's in the treble clef and everything. It's just Big clarinet. I would love to learn guitar. it seems like such an important piece for like background music on tracks and just. I wanna learn it. and its the most common thing that people use for chords. I have a piano that I fuck around with, but I don't know how to use chords and shit but I know how to play the shit out of the melody.

I also need to learn to read the bass clef. I played flute in 4th grade and I'd kind of like to play it again

[what art do I enjoy making the most] I like to crochet :) i also like drawing. one of my favorite mediums is oil pastels lol. [what color is my room painted, and what would I like to change it to] okay. so. like AGES ago we were gonna paint my room. and we painted two walls. we got light blue on the east and marshmallow white on the west. the other walls (North and south) are painted VERY VERY light pink so light it is white. since that's the color my sister had. we were gonna paint the other window wall (north) blue and the non-window wall white (south) but it never happened. so now I have mismatched walls.

The blue is rly nice, but if I moved, I think I'd paint three walls light lavender, and one the marshmallow white.

I have been thinking a lot and I still want to write because I have stories to tell with Wesley and Dabi. However - I also want pictures of Wesley since he has become very important to me. So I think it is time to dust off my iPad and work on my drawing skills again.

My drawing needs a lot of work but I might be able to get it to a good point again. I'm just slow and it is going to kill me.

But I will get better just like I did with my writing. Oh yeah speaking of my writing. I will be going through my blog and updating the works I'm writing on right now. I have a new long fic I'm working on, along with a random smut fic I wrote up a couple of weeks ago. So keep a look out for that.
