Sunday Notes: Cleveland’s Daniel Schneemann Has His Barrel in the Zone
Daniel Schneemann’s claim to fame is having played six positions in his first six MLB games — reportedly no player had done so in over 100 years — but a peculiar versatility record hasn’t been the 27-year-old infielder/outfielder’s only noteworthy accomplishment since he debuted on June 2nd. A surprise contributor to a surprisingly-stellar Cleveland Guardians club, Schneemann has slashed…

Wanted to know if you're still watching baseball. I'm very excited, I'm going to go to an event where they'll be interviewing Sports New York director John DeMarsico!
I am indeed still watching baseball, and that is very exciting! Congratulations!
My favorite thing about baseball currently is that the internet seems to be dedicated, the past couple weeks, to bringing me amazing photographs of baseball players in mid-leap.
For example, here are Daniel Schneemann and Jhonkensy Noel of the Guardians making a catch at the wall together:
Tumblr media
(My favorite fact about Jhonkensy Noel is that his nickname, for obvious reasons, is "Big Christmas." I am pretty sure those are Christmas-themed cleats he's wearing.)
And then, yesterday, the Giants swept the As in the, um, Whatever We're Calling The Bay Bridge Series Now, and the internet brought me this victory picture:
Tumblr media
That is Willy Adames and Mike Yastrzemski jumping for joy.
I don't know that I have a favorite fact about Yaz, but last year the closed-captioning was so bad that I started keeping a list of all of the worst ways it spelled his name; I think my favorite was "Mike Insurance Key."
It's sort of hard to see it in the camera angle in the broadcast, but my favorite fact about Willy Adames is that, when Heliot Ramos got a walk-off Little League home run last month (definitely my favorite baseball thing so far this season), when he gets to third base, you can see Willy Adames leap out of the dugout and run the last ninety feet right alongside him and meet him at home. I think that's very sweet.
Anyway. None of that has anything to do with what you said. I just wanted to share.

2025 Topps Baseball Series 2 Hobby Jumbo
I was able to buy one box each of Hobby and Jumbo and opened them. There are a bit too many cards, so I'll give a quick introduction.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I like the atmosphere of this series a lot, because I don't like the flamboyant design of the base cards.
I am happy to have the cards of Kim Hye Sun, Josh Lowe, Tj friedl, Sasaki and Sugano that I wanted.
Tumblr media
I also like the insert cards and parallels.
Tumblr media
I am also lucky to get autographs from Hobby.
Daniel Schneemann
Tumblr media
A hard worker who hit two home runs (a solo shot and a grand slam) to save his team this May. He is also a utility player and can play shortstop, third, second, and outfield. These hard-working players make me want to cheer for them. His autograph also has a somewhat primitive look to it.
And in Jumbo, one autograph and two relics are as good as the odds.
Jairo Iriarte
Tumblr media
A young Venezuelan right fielder. He pitched 6 games last season, striking out 6 in 6 innings (3 runs allowed) with a 1.50 earned run average, and has bright prospects for the future. I think he needs to work on his four-strikeout ratio.
Tumblr media
The relievers are David Ortiz, aka Big Papi, and Kevin Alcántara. I thought it was a pretty hot lineup.
The Legends and Rookies slots are well-balanced.
It was a fun box to open!

Ohtani hits major league-leading 20th home run in Dodgers' 9-5 victory over Guardians
CLEVELAND (AP) — Shohei Ohtani hit his major league-leading 20th home run of the season and the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Cleveland Guardians 9-5 on Tuesday night. Michael Conforto and Max Muncy also went deep for the Dodgers. Dustin May (3-4) won his second straight start. The right-hander had a season-high nine strikeouts and allowed three runs in five innings. Daniel Schneemann had a…

FBB 2025 - Semi-Early Returns
It's mid-May and my team had been hovering around 7th and 8th place for the first five weeks, but in the past two weeks, my team has been surging. And there has been a lot of surprises and a lot of change on my team. I'm currently in 5th, but there is reason for hope.
Eight of my current players weren't on my opening day roster. Five came about as a result of waived players and three came onto my team as injury replacements. Pleasant Surprises Spencer Torkelson ($1) - leads my team in HRs Jeremy Pena ($24) - super solid and a bit more Kerry Carpenter ($22) - same as Pena Gleyber Torres ($19) - poached and doing well Josh Jung ($14) - hurt, but came back strong Pablo Lopez ($22) - my ace Carlos Estevez ($13) - undisputed closer in KC Middle of the Road (and liking it) Jonah Heim ($9) - decent performance Cedric Mullins ($17) - decent power/decent speed Luis Castillo ($22) - sort of seeing signs of decline, but ok Clarke Schmidt ($9) - delayed due to injury, but semi-solid My Surprise Replacements (nearly everyone of my replacements have performed) Luis Urias ($1) - not spectacular, but semi-solid Daniel Schneemann ($1) - not hurting me Zach McKinstry ($1) - swiss army knife utility Shane Smith ($1) - iffy White Sox SP pitching great Tyler Mahle ($1) -- a pick up that has really delivered My Rookie Gambles Cam Smith ($5) - it was pick him or Kristian Campbell as my first pick in the minor league draft. Well, at first, Campbell looked like the better choice, but Smith is getting better Chandler Simpson ($2) - got him in a trade and he is stealing bases Huge Disappointments Jake Burger ($30) - so bad, he was sent to the minors Joc Pederson ($6) - really, really bad. I finally cut him Jordan Westburg ($11) - okay performance, but injured Spencer Arrighetti ($5) - freak injury took him out for months Fear Factor Players Jeff Hoffman ($20) - delivered saves, then went south Luis Castillo - losing his dominance to some degree
No Regret Departures Hunter Renfroe - really sucked Noel Jhonkensky - not as bad as Renfroe, but bad On whole, I'm more surprised by my recent surge. There are some players playing above their heads (Shane Smith and Tyler Mahle), but they are balanced out that my most expensive player is not delivering. I have reason to hope and may start looking at some trades to make a run for it.

Mould making using silicone
Tumblr media
Trans Church, Rhino rendering
A starting point for this project will therefore involve casting very personal and significantly gendered objects and the body in hyper-palatable materials, and then combining them to create consumerist gendered assemblages. I hope to draw parallels between personal objects and the modified trans body, considering how both can be made gender-affirming through consumerism, and yet the issues with relying on consumerism wholly for this. On foundation so far I have learnt how to make complex moulds from clay, plaster, latex and silicone and have so far cast in plaster, ceramic, agar and pewter. I intend to use this technique and extend it to create hyper-palatability within sculptural objects. Furthermore, over this course, I have learnt how to use 3D modelling and rendering software Rhino, and so I intend to use Rhino to create hyper-palatable renderings for video work or to CNC in order to create detailed organic hyper-palatable forms.

She Keeps Me Damn Alive, Danielle Brathwaite-Shirely, 2021
Tumblr media
Cover from Transgender Studies Quarterly, 2019
In the past, my work has been influenced by feminist and transgender artists spanning across the last century, taking inspiration from artists such as Dorothea Tanning, Carolee Schneemann, Cassils and Danielle Brathwaite-Shirley. It has also responded to the early intersectional transgender theory that emerged in the 2000s, ranging from Robert Philips’ application of Julia Kristeva’s Abjection onto Trans Bodies to Susan Stryker’s writing on Trans-Biopolitics and Trans-Marxism. Now I hope to situate my work within the growing field of trans* art, through research into contemporary Transgender theory, published in journals such as Transgender Studies Quarterly (2014 – present). This research will focus on my subject matter of trans psychology, Somatechnics and consumerism. A few notable essays that I will read include On the Intersection of Somatechnics and Transgender studies (Janzen C., Randell-Moon H. 2020), “Can We Be Visible in This Culture without Becoming a Commodity?” (Horak, L. 2021) and a selection of the short essays included in the first issue of Transgender Studies Quarterly (2014)
Furthermore, I will research contemporary trans artists that explore the complexities of trans identities:
Tumblr media
Trans Mercurial Vapour BB, Roxman Gatt, 2021
The sculpture of Roxman Gatt, who explores how consumerist iconography and trans identity interact.
Tumblr media
Systems II, 2018, Jes Fan
Tumblr media
Animacy Arrangement (Poke), 2017, Jes Fan
The sculpture of Jes Fan who explores how ‘artificial’ hormones affect identity
Tumblr media
Debris in a Skin-Tight Corset, 2019, Cassie Augusta Jorgensen, Rory Pilgrim
The performances of Cassie Augusta Jorgensen which consider how the roles assigned to trans people impact their identity.

Retrospettiva di COCO  GORDON
“Timeless, Senzatempo”
Sandro  Bongiani

Schneemann's grand slam with 2 out in the 9th inning rallies Guardians to 5-3 win over Blue Jays
TORONTO (AP) — Daniel Schneemann hit his first career grand slam and added a solo shot, leading the Cleveland Guardians to a 5-3, come-from-behind victory over the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday. With Toronto leading 3-1 and two outs in the ninth inning, Schneemann pulled an 0-1 pitch from Yimi García into the stands in right field for his first multi-homer game and fourth long ball of the…
