Darreii Scott performing "I Wish".
More from Darrell Scott: - The Man Who Could Have Played Bass For Sha Na Na - It’s a Great Day To Be Alive - This Beggar’s Heart ___________________________ I Wish Songwriter: Darrell Scott
I wish I was a chauffer  California, New Year's Eve  Driving around a pretty lady with a hanky up her sleeve  I would light her tiparillos just as civil as you please
I wish I was a diver on a ship with Jacques Cousteau  I'd get a picture in our rubber suits so that everyone would know  "Hey, you really know Jacques?"  I'd say, "Yeah, just look at this"  I'd show it everywhere I go, Jacques Cousteau, Jacques Cousteau
I wish I was a cartoon  I wish I was Peter Pan  Then I could fly away from sorrow and never have to feel like a man  You ask me why I'm still a child?  Well, it's just because I am
I wish I had a cabin on the top of some big hill  I'd build a fire every evening and listen to thwe whipporwill  Eat my food out of a garden and drink my whiskey from a still
I wish I was a diamond on the back of your skinny little hand  Then I could keep my eye on you  Maybe then I would understand  How you just leave us all weeping just to prove that you still can

Darrell Scott Heads Toward Country with Old Cane Back Rocker
It sounds as if Darrell Scott is heading for the country - music, that is - with Old Cane Back Rocker.
Credited to the Darrell Scott String Band - with bassist Bryn Davies, fiddler Shad Cobb and Matt Flinner on banjo and mandolin - the forthcoming album does not have a release date. But three tracks - Scott’s own “Kentucky Morning” and “Charlie and Ruby” and a cover of Crosby, Stills and Nash’s “Southern Cross” - streaming for a limited time on Scott’s website seem to indicate why this group is no longer called the Darrell Scott Bluegrass Band.
For while the bluegrass instrumentation has not changed, the musical output has. This is country music designed to get Scott the kind of mainstream attention that has mostly - quite unbelievably - eluded him. And in that regard fans can only hope it works; Scott deserves every success.
Then, when he lures more people to his gigs, he can hook them with the wide variety of music he does best, including some real bluegrass.
Hear the tracks here before they’re gone.

Darrell Scott "Long Time Gone" . this “his” version is better the anyones .  After all he wrote . Hope his contract with the Dixie Chicks was a good one . I feel as if a person is really talented he or she doesn’t need a band . Maybe a side kick though

Patty Loveless performing “You’ll Never Leave Harlan Alive” with Chris and Morgane Stapleton. ______________________________ You’ll Never Leave Harlan Alive Songwriter: Darrell Scott
In the deep dark hills of eastern Kentucky That's the place where I traced my bloodline And it's there I read on a hillside gravestone You'll never leave Harlan alive
Oh my grandfather's dad crossed the Cumberland Mountains Where he took a pretty girl to be his bride Said "Won't you walk with me out the mouth of this holler Or we'll never leave Harlan alive"
Where the sun comes up about ten in the mornin' And the sun goes down about three in the day And you'll fill your cup with whatever bitter brew you're drinkin' And you spend your life just thinkin' of how to get away
No one ever knew there was coal in them mountains Till a man from the northeast arrived Waving hundred dollar bills Said "I'll pay you for your minerals" But he never left Harlan alive
Grandma sold out cheap and they moved out west of Pineville To a farm where Big Richland River winds And I bet they danced them a jig And they laughed and sang a new song "Who said we'd never leave Harlan alive"
But the times they got hard and tobacco wasn't selling And old grandad knew what he'd do to survive He went and dug for Harlan coal And sent the money back to grandma But he never left Harlan alive
Where the sun comes up about ten in the mornin' And the sun goes down about three in the day And you'll fill your cup with whatever bitter brew you're drinkin' And you spend your life digging coal from the bottom of your grave.
You'll never leave Harlan alive

Song Review: Steep Canyon Rangers - “Hominy Valley”
Mixing in a little electric banjo and with Darrell Scott in the producer’s chair and new guitarist/singer Aaron Burdett on board, Steep Canyon Rangers begin their post-Woody Platt era with “Hominy Valley.”
Written by banjo man Graham Sharp and with bassist Barrett Smith at the mic, it’s a rocker - a fairly generic one at that. The playing and singing are, as usual, flawless, yet the track is flat - more akin to album filler than lead single - propelled by Mike Ashworth’s drum kit and fiddle and mandolin solos from Nicky Sanders and Mike Guggino, respectively.
“Hominy Valley” is out to announce the Sept. 8 arrival of Morning Shift. It’s too early to say how the modern Rangers will fare, but this is an inauspicious preview.
Grade card: Steep Canyon Rangers - “Hominy Valley” - C-

‘’Everyone who knew her knows that whenever she was out walking, she had a history of taking the time to stop along the way and say, ‘’Oh, look at that flower.’’ Sometimes people who were with her would get frustrated and say, ‘’Oh, come on, let’s keep moving.’’ But she was constantly doing things like that. She had had the habit of stopping to smell the roses, as they say. If she was out somewhere and a puppy dog or a cat walked by, she couldn’t resist stopping to pet him or rub his tummy.  At the shopping mall, she had to stop to talk to little babies. I love to watch her with babies. She would get down on her hands and knees so she could be on their level and just love on them, and they loved her too.  Rachel’s love wasn’t merely a sentimental thing. Whenever she sensed an injustice being done to someone, no matter how small or seemingly insignificant it was, righteous indignation rose up within her. She grew up with two brothers and two sisters: fighting and arguing among them all were not unusual. But sometimes when her brothers got in a particularly contentious argument, she acted as a referee, trying to decide who was being mistreated and doing what she could to correct it. She had that instinct built into her. Rachel even served as my conscience sometimes. I don’t savor talking about this, but I think it helps understand the way she was. She was always ready to stand up for anyone who she felt was mistreated. I grew up in Louisiana at a time in our history when there were total segregation and much prejudice. I never considered myself a racist, but I picked up a certain amount of unwanted baggage along the way. I am thankful that my children didn’t grow up in an environment where hatred toward others was encouraged. I can remember times when I would be with Rachel and I would make a remark about a guy on the side of the road who looked totally healthy with a sign asking for money. She would always rebuke me and want to stop to give something to help. The world is a much better place because of people like Rachel Joy Scott.’’  -   Darrell Scott.
