Data Patterns

As I'm collecting data, I expect a few different patterns to emerge. A significant chunk of my time is spent in a school setting, so I predict that a lot of my data will be in the form of educational information. Seeing as I'm an art student, I think that these educational data points may overlap with visuals that caught my eye. I also think that a lot of my information will be present in social settings, such as texting, conversing with friends, or using social media. I suspect that this will become a pattern for other students as well knowing how often college kids are on social media or spending time with others.

Been thinking a lot about plot structure lately, so here are a few I just came up with for sickfic (you can sub out the vocabulary pretty easily for allergies or pain but I'm not gonna make this needlessly complicated by adding "is sick/has encountered an allergen/has a wound" every time haha)

Fluff: Character A is sick and remains about the same level of sick throughout the story, as Character B takes care of them

Slow Decline: A is sick and gets worse and worse as the story progresses, with no major reprieves

Striptease: A is sick, but it's not so bad. They start to feel a little worse, so they try a remedy. It kicks in and they feel better, but then it wears off and they start to feel even worse. They do what they can to stave it off, but it doesn't last and they end up feeling worse than ever. (Then B comes to take care of them. <3)

Back & Forth: A is sick. Every time they start to feel better, they push too hard and end up just a little bit worse, culminating in a situation they're going to have a really hard time bouncing back from on their own. (Enter B for caretaking)

Sudden Attack: A feels fine— until they suddenly feel the worst they can possibly feel. (Then 🥺🥺 B 🥺🥺🥺 comes to take care of themmm 🥺)

sorry former gifted kids and burnt out perfectionists but: the only way to get better at something is to do it, and to repeatedly suck at it. failing. sometimes for years. until one day you step back and look at what has just been produced by your beautiful hands and beautiful brain (which are themselves the products of eons of failures-until-it worked) and think: wait a minute. this looks different. this feels different.

Ngl it's interesting how on DS9 tumblr you can make fancams and edits of male slave owners, rapists, war criminals and murderers but the two times I made a post (and jokingly too) defending Kai Winn or Seska without fail someone turned up to complain about that saying they did bad things. Interesting I wonder if there is some kind of a pattern to that!

Let TFP!Megatronus be illiterate. Let him practise his speeches with Soundwave and have them make heavy use of Soundwave's ability to record/replay/stitch together sounds to get the best possible result. Let him have thousand-monkeys-on-a-thousand-typewriters-ed his way to revolutionary ideals.

So when Orion Pax shows up having read actual philosophy, it just drives a wedge between them, because it's all well and good to whitter on about pros and cons, but there's no decisive action suggested in the ramblings of old mechs. Theirs is about the argument, not the conclusion. And so, Orion comes across as condescending and Megatronus comes across as stubborn.

(And then sometime later, the closest thing to basic learning materials Megatron can get ahold of are medical/scientific notes and he discovers that he's got a knack for chemistry and immediately funnels that into plague development...)

George's Russell's entire Formula 1 career thus far is summarized and displayed visually in these two infographics. Exploring data visualization design through the extensive and detailed data provided by Formula 1 on their website, I was able to compare the difference between more formal and statistical design against creative and symbolic design options.

(Note: The infographic on the left was my final assignment submission and thus the information ended just after the Vegas GP 2024 weekend because of where the due date fell in the F1 calendar.)
