TADC theory and OC-story concept
I haven't been active on this blog for a while now, and that's sadly because I kinda fell out of the TADC–Jax hype. I'm hoping ep5 will bring back some interest in the show for me (not sure about it, but we'll see!), BUT I did want to make a post and share:
a darker, probably-unlikely TADC theory that I’ve been thinking about
and an also darker and detailed story idea with my TADC OC (which the fics A Slithering Adventure and Stress Relief are part of)
TW: mention of depression, self-destructive tendencies, drug addiction, suicide (oh boi...)
WC: 7277
Let me know if you find any of them interesting!
Also changed the name of this blog cause I wanted to switch it up with my main that I don't even use.
1. THEORY: The Circus is a Digital Prison / Rehabilitation Program
This one isn’t tied to any OC, but more of a theory-lore idea.
What if the digital circus was never supposed to be a circus at all? What if it started out as a government-funded or corporate-backed digital prison?
The original idea was to develop a new kind of incarceration. Instead of physical prison, they would digitally upload the minds of criminals and mentally unstable individuals into a simulated world. Their memories and identities were stripped, and they were dropped into a surreal, chaotic environment meant to break them psychologically and eventually rewire them into "model citizens".
As time went on, the system evolved. The circus was just the latest version of the simulation: something colorful, distracting, and bizarre enough to keep inmates occupied while still applying extreme mental stress.
The cast members we know (Pomni, Jax, Ragatha, etc.) are just the most recent batch of inmates. Every one of them committed a crime in the real world, ranging from severe to petty, depending on how far they were willing to go as humans. Some ideas for what they could've done:
Murder (Jax?);
Cybercrime or hacking, possibly part of an anti-corporate movement (Kinger, Pomni?);
Repeated vandalism (Ragatha?);
Arson (Gangle?);
Anarchist actions (Zooble?)
NOTE that I haven't put too much thought into the crime ideas and matching them with the characters. But this would tie with Goose saying they actually deserve to be there (or at least I think they said that, not sure).
Caine wasn’t always the ringleader – he was created to become the AI warden. His happy, chaotic personality is a mask meant to pacify the inmates and is a part of the psychological manipulation. His goal is to keep the inmates distracted and compliant, until someone steps out of line, and things get darker.
The abstracted aren’t glitches. They’re inmates who broke under pressure, people whose minds fractured beyond repair. The “cellar” isn’t a hidden corner of the circus. It’s solitary confinement. It’s where the system dumps those it can’t control.
This theory would mean none of the cast members are there by accident. They were chosen, one by one - erased from the real world by powerful people who are still watching their suffering from the outside, using it as both control and entertainment.
2. My Own Story and My OC, Azryn
This one could actually be darker in a sense, so just bear with me lol.
Azryn was the first human ever trapped in the digital circus. Long before Pomni and the others arrived, she was already there – alone and terrified. In the real world, Azryn struggled with severe depression, suicidal ideation, and drug addiction. On the night she planned to take her life, she mysteriously woke up in the digital circus.
Additional lore I wasn't sure about:
She had a close friend (or ex-partner) who was a talented programmer. They saw Azryn’s addiction and self-destructive spiral and, instead of helping her, became obsessed with the idea of "fixing" her. When they found her overdosing, they uploaded her mind into the digital circus - believing they had “saved” her by giving her a second life. But in truth, they only trapped her in a nightmare she couldn’t escape from.
I was also thinking they created the circus together, but I’m not entirely sure which direction I want to go with that yet.
After waking up in the digital world, Azryn believed she had actually died and ended up in some kind of hell. She locked herself in her room and refused to interact with Caine, who was already there at that point.
But whoever uploaded Azryn into the circus didn’t disappear. From the outside, they could still watch her suffer, monitor her every move, and even manipulate Caine from time to time. Azryn doesn’t know exactly how, but she can feel it: she’s being watched. Controlled. Punished.
Sometimes, in the quiet moments when no one else is around, she breaks down and screams at the walls, her voice raw and hopeless: “Are you enjoying this?” “Is this what you wanted?” “Is this what saving me means to you?”
Over time, more and more cast members appeared (I imagined the person who put Azryn there would have this twisted mission of "fixing" other people as well). The world around her became louder, weirder, and more unbearable. Azryn tried every possible way to die in the circus, but nothing worked. Eventually, her mind broke, and she abstracted – but her abstraction was different. She retained her consciousness in the cellar. Down there, she could still feel. She could still see. She witnessed the pain of every lost cast member, felt the weight of their loneliness, and realized that someone had to stop this place from continuing.
Somehow, after what seemed like forever, Azryn magically appeared back in the circus: fully intact, fully aware, and deeply changed. But she kept her past a secret. When she reappeared (sometime after Pomni’s arrival), she pretended to be a new arrival, claiming she didn’t know anything. Only Kinger had a vague sense of familiarity about her, because they used to be friends before Azryn abstracted – but his fractured mind couldn’t put it together.
Azryn's true goal is to end the circus and find a way out – but she lies to the others to protect them. She fears that if they knew who she really was (or what she knew), they’d panic.
That fear proves true when Caine eventually turns on her. At first, he simply avoids her, as if he’s unsure whether to acknowledge her return. But when she starts investigating the circus too deeply and planting ideas of escape in others, he retaliates. He sees her as a threat to the system - and maybe even to his own sense of control.
When the truth starts surfacing, Caine manipulates the rest of the cast into believing Azryn is the one who created the circus. He spreads the idea that “C&A” stands for “Caine & Azryn,” and claims that she’s responsible for trapping everyone. This breaks her completely and forces her to fight back.
I also imagined her to have a slow-burn, enemies-to friends-to lovers relationship with Jax lol. From the start, Azryn saw straight through Jax’s antics and called him out, which annoyed him enough to target her constantly. But over time, through being stuck together in adventures and sharing vulnerable moments, they grew closer. Jax eventually opened up to her, only to later feel deeply betrayed when her true backstory was revealed. He was hurt that he had trusted her with his feelings while she had kept everything hidden.
Final thought I had:
If Azryn had already died in the real world, then escaping the circus would be impossible for her - she wouldn’t have a body to wake up to. Even if she and the others eventually found a way out, Azryn wouldn’t be able to go with them. She’d be left behind, all alone in there once again, just like how it all started.
I imagined this ending with a quiet, devastating goodbye between her and Jax. After everything they went through - the fights, the trust, the slow healing - he’d be forced to leave her behind, and she'd have to let him go. She’d smile through it, trying to be strong for him. And once they’re all gone, she’d be alone in the empty circus… still standing, still fighting, but finally at peace with her fate, knowing she's saved everyone there.

The Role of Relays and Timers in Industrial Automation Systems

In the world of industrial automation, efficiency, safety, and precision are crucial. Among the many components that contribute to a well-functioning automated system, relays and timers play a foundational role. These devices act as control elements that manage the flow of electricity, signal processes, and coordinate timing sequences — ensuring that operations run smoothly and safely.
In this article, we’ll explore how relays and timers work, their types, applications in automation systems, and how high-quality products — like those offered by Enza Electric — can enhance performance and reliability in industrial settings.
What Are Relays?
A relay is an electromechanical or electronic switch used to control a circuit by a separate low-power signal or multiple signals. In industrial automation, relays act as a bridge between the control system and the equipment being operated — allowing machines to be turned on or off automatically.
Types of Relays Commonly Used in Automation:
Electromechanical Relays (EMRs): Use physical moving parts; reliable and easy to maintain.
Solid-State Relays (SSRs): No moving parts; faster switching, longer lifespan, and better for high-speed applications.
Thermal Overload Relays: Protect motors and equipment from overheating.
Control Relays: Designed for controlling multiple contacts simultaneously in automation systems.
What Are Timers?
Timers are devices used to delay or repeat electrical signals at predetermined intervals. They help synchronize tasks, automate sequences, and provide controlled outputs over time — critical for complex industrial processes.
Common Timer Functions:
On-delay and off-delay timing
Interval timing
Cyclic or repeat cycle operation
Flashing and sequencing operations
Types of Timers:

Light Bars vs. LED Light Bars: What’s Best for DJs and Stage Setups?
Lighting plays a defining role in shaping the experience of a live event. Whether managing energy on a dance floor or setting mood transitions in a performance venue, lighting bars have become essential tools in both stage and DJ setups. But there’s often confusion between traditional light bars and LED light bars—two fixtures that might look similar, yet perform very differently.
This article outlines the differences, use cases, and practical considerations to help identify which type of fixture works best in real-world applications.
Contrasting lighting in action: Traditional light bars offer warm ambiance, while LED bars deliver color-driven dynamics.
Understanding the Two: What Makes Them Different?
The term “light bar” has evolved from its original meaning. Traditionally, it referred to long linear fixtures using halogen or fluorescent lamps—tools commonly used in theatres, early live productions, or static wash lighting.
By contrast, LED light bars represent a modern take on the same format, built with energy-efficient diodes and designed for color mixing, pixel control, and dynamic effects. Their rise in popularity has coincided with the growth of compact stage setups, digital control systems, and mobile DJ rigs.
Today, both versions still have a place in the lighting world, but LED variants have become the go-to for setups requiring more than just basic illumination. They’re now widely available through professional Audio Video supply stores that serve live production, education, and entertainment sectors.
Output Capabilities: Warm Wash vs. Programmable Effects
Choosing between the two often starts with the kind of visual atmosphere you need to create.
Traditional light bars emit a warm, consistent glow. They’re suitable for soft fills or mood lighting but lack adaptability unless fitted with gels or combined with dimmers.
LED light bars offer integrated RGB or RGBW color mixing. That means quick transitions, color cycling, and visual movement with minimal effort. Many models also include sound-activated and chase modes, offering automated visuals that respond to music or timing cues.
LED bars are frequently used in DJ booths, club ceilings, and truss setups, especially when motion and color variety are part of the visual experience.
Control and Integration
Older light bars rely on analog control—on/off switching or standalone dimmers. While functional, they offer limited interactivity.
Modern LED bars, however, support DMX protocols, giving users complete control over color, brightness, speed, and timing through lighting desks or software platforms. They can be incorporated into multi-fixture scenes, respond to preset programs, or be used in sync with sound sources in real time.
When designing a setup that requires coordination between audio, video, and lighting elements, fixtures compatible with stage lighting control systems streamline programming and ensure more consistent results.
Installation and Power Efficiency
Another key advantage of LED fixtures lies in their portability and power draw.
Traditional bars consume more electricity and generate heat, which can be a concern in tightly packed venues or portable rigs. They also tend to be bulkier and heavier, requiring more hardware for safe mounting.
By contrast, LED bars are lightweight, efficient, and often daisy-chainable, allowing for both power and signal to run across multiple units from one source. This is particularly helpful in compact venues, where circuits may be shared with sound and video gear.
Fixtures designed for quick deployment and efficient cabling are now a staple across many audio-visual equipment sellers , especially those serving mobile DJs and touring techs.
Durability and Maintenance
Reliability is always a concern in live environments. Traditional light bars use bulbs or tubes that are prone to breakage or burnout over time. Regular maintenance is required, especially during transport or frequent setup.
LED bars are built with solid-state components and are far more resistant to shock and movement. With lifespans measured in tens of thousands of hours, they’re often chosen for applications where maintenance access is limited or downtime must be avoided.
When evaluating durability for recurring events, look for fixtures listed under professional stage lighting gear, where features like rugged casings and tour-friendly designs are common.
Practical Applications
DJs and Performers
LED bars are ideal for DJ booths and mobile rigs. They can be mounted above, behind, or alongside the performer to enhance visual energy. Sound-active modes also allow these bars to sync with beats and transitions without needing a dedicated operator.
Venues and Clubs
Smaller clubs or multi-use halls benefit from LED bars due to their low power demands and mounting flexibility. Even a few fixtures placed strategically can transform a flat room into a performance-ready space with dynamic light coverage.
Theatrical Use
Traditional bars still find use in theatres where consistent warm wash is required. However, LED fixtures can now replicate those tones digitally, offering the same ambiance with added control and energy savings.
For mixed-use stages, combining older light bars for soft fill and LED versions for movement effects can strike a balance between mood and adaptability.
Pixel Control and Design Freedom
More advanced LED bars offer pixel mapping, allowing each segment of the fixture to be controlled independently. This opens up creative design possibilities like chasing sequences, animated waves, or pulsing accents—all from a single unit.
While not essential for every event, pixel control can elevate lighting design from simple color changes to layered visual storytelling. These features are increasingly found in fixtures within the DMX-controlled lighting categories commonly supplied by full-service Audio Video shops.
Ease of Use in Quick Turnaround Setups
In fast-paced environments like weddings, one-nighters, or short changeovers, speed matters. Many LED bars come with auto modes, built-in programs, or wireless remotes. These simplify setup while still offering engaging effects.
Combined with power efficiency and long LED lifespan, these traits make LED bars a go-to for situations where setup time is limited but performance quality must remain high.
LED light bars are being configured for an event setup, offering control, reliability, and efficient power management in dynamic venues.
Final Thoughts
Both light bars and LED light bars have roles in today’s live production landscape. Traditional fixtures continue to serve specific functions in stage design, but LED bars are now the preferred choice for flexible lighting design, energy savings, and control integration.
For those designing systems around DMX, compact rigging, or mobile use, LED light bars offer unmatched versatility. They’re compatible with the broader ecosystem of control surfaces, rigging hardware, and accessories typically found at specialty pro audio and lighting stores serving the live event and production industries.

Wow, you're really greedy swayanon! Even more so than I was :P
3 - You've escaped and built a farm. What kind of farm is it?
Fruit trees and the like! More of an orchard than a farm but that's where I'd be happiest.
5 - Have you ever done a digital detox?
Yes, a few times! I miss talking with people online, though.
6 - What's your favourite hobby that doesn't include anything computerized?
TTRPGs, especially not-d&d! You can incorporate so many different kinds of creativity and logical thinking as well, genuinely the best kind of activity for me :D
8 - If you had to switch to a non-tech job/study, what would it be?
Linguistics or an anthropology subfield! Not tech, but still some science, and also a strong basis in the humanities :D I'm going to school for a women's, gender, and sexuality studies program right now with the goal of studying queer language development!
13 - You're going in isolation for a while. Which books or records are you bringing?
This is such a hard question! Probably Jacqueline Carey's novels, Emily Dickinson's and Mary Oliver's poetry, and Steve Roach's Quiet Music 35th anniversary edition?
14 - You get to swap one tech skill for a non-tech skill. Which ones?
Another super hard question! This would likely be a career changing event for me, as I use all my tech skills at work. Here's a (not so) secret: I'm more a sysadmin than a programmer. So I'd give up my programming skills (!!!) and trade it for some kind of musical talent! Probably piano!
16 - What's the most fun tech-free thing you've ever done?
Sex or cuddling 🤭 Or TTRPGs!
17 - Are you happy with your handwriting?
Yes, actually! I had horrible handwriting from what I was taught in school. I developed my own cursive hand, derived from what I learned in school. I dramatically simplified it and swapped out all the cursive capitals for normal capitals because cursive capitals are illegible and overly complex. I write regularly (poetry, journaling, notes) and I'm still experimenting with it years later :)
19 - What non-tech hobby would you like to pick up that you've never tried before?
Dancing! Both as an art form and as something fun to do with my body.

Clock Parts
Maximizing Capability of Clock Motors

Clock parts motors regulate the timekeeping and other useful habits of wrist watches. In today's world, clock electric motors (or "movements" in the trade) are digitally powered, and a quartz crystal is the timing source, vibrating at a high frequency and producing a train of pulses, their count proportional for elapsed time. Hence, we have a contemporary way of maintaining time, equivalent in look from the older mechanical clocks; however, the modern movement runs mainly in software, allowing for extra attributes, some unique and uncommon, to be applied reasonably quickly, specifically when compared to their mechanical relatives.
Conventional clock electric motors were mechanically designed and built, the only feasible approach. A coiled spring or hanging weight supplied possible energy, which in turn was exchanged kinetic energy by causing a flywheel to turn. Pendulums and escapements managed the regularity of turning, resulting in a constant tick-tock at an accurately fine-tuned pace of one secondly.
But the mechanical structures had difficult and large parts, which restricted their capacities and made it difficult to adjust them to prolonged or cutting-edge layouts. For this reason, once it was uncovered that by subjecting a quartz crystal to a voltage decrease causes it to resonate and give off pulses at an exact rate, the tables were set for switching from a mechanical technique to a digital one for keeping time. The schedule of digital memory additionally facilitated the change to an extra electronic operation.
Artisans of the past produced wrist watches that exhibited striking effects, yet the effort was complex, painstaking, and involved innovative mechanical couplings to get the impacts to be in sync with temporal events. And, thus effort became less and less cost-efficient, it declined eventually into a lost art. However, the contemporary programmable clock electric motor makes it very easy to imitate these historic impacts and also to attain greater ones.
Naturally, digital clocks (which are digital) offer a different user interface and extend the ordinary period (when whatever resets) by tracking the moon stage, the weekday, and the full day. However something is shed in this all-digital user interface, and the motors we describe here are essentially analog (moving hands, typical dial, and so on), though with some solid-state wiring. And yet they can duplicate the treasure wrist watches.
The quartz crystal pulse-train is so accurate that timing is near specific, and simple community brings the speed to the world of secs and minutes. In addition, it is straightforward to extend the size of the reset period by expanding its trigger moment. Place additional details on the dial and include one more hand to aim at that details, and the days of the week or the dates of the month are revealed as well as normal time.
It is additionally as simple for the watch to show the existing level of the trend. This is also a periodic phenomenon, however based on the lunar cycle of 1 day and 50 mins. You can locate clock motors that execute this function, either as a standalone piece or incorporated with common timekeeping.
However you can likewise get movements that track changes in the weather (barometric pressure, humidity, or temperature). These modifications are not routine, so the crystal is not the source of the details displayed; rather, sensors take regular measurements, and their values are exchanged a relative position along a range. The traditional dial and hands are replaced with a single hand that rotates backward and forward over the range printed in an arc along the area.
There are still more features that we could review, such as constant sweep useds, chimes, different cosmetic pendulums, and high-torque versions that allow one build structures 3 feet throughout in diameter. But our area is used up. The reader should now have the essentials and the understanding for making best use of the functionality of clock electric motors.

An announcement (?)
Greetings! Sadly, I won't be able to draw digitally again for some time. Thats because the Photoshop itself, and any of my psd-files refuse to open/work. And the PS also got rid of (?) all of my custom brushes and important changes that I was using while drawing, so it is a problem too.
There are no problems with the programm itself, but with the discs on which my computer operates. They are in someway damaged (I were not told how exactly) and need to be replaced before I can use Photoshop again.
And yet I have a lot of ideas that I want to share with people. With you. But now I can't get them out in a form of a didgital art. But there are some issues with that too.
First, I am not confident with my traditional art at all. I am scared that it wouldn't be good enough for you to see. You can point out that i have posted my drawings on the paper on my blogs. Thats true, but I still edited them in Photoshop to get rid off the distracting imperfections of paper and to fix the mistakes done in my art.
Secondly, I dont know if I will have enough power to do finished artwork. Currently I have some.. mental struggles, lets put it that way. Its hard to do anything or want to do anything (even if I do want to do it). So I doubt my bad mental health will let me do art on the same level as before with the limited will power I have currently.
So, I have a question for you.
Will you mind me switching to posting imperfect traditional wips/sketches on my blogs? Or would you prefer to wait untill I get the means to deliver the previous level of quality in my art?

Central Bank Digital Currencies vs. Bitcoin – Control vs. Freedom

The world is shifting, and the battle for financial sovereignty is heating up. Governments are rolling out Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs), while Bitcoin continues its rise as the antidote to financial oppression. On the surface, they might seem similar—both are digital currencies—but dig a little deeper, and the difference couldn’t be more profound. One is about control, the other about freedom.
The Illusion of Convenience
CBDCs will be marketed as a breakthrough in financial technology. Faster payments. More security. Easy access. But the fine print tells another story. These government-backed digital currencies are programmable, meaning central authorities will have the ability to dictate how, when, and where you can spend your money. They could enforce expiration dates on stimulus checks, block purchases they deem inappropriate, or even restrict access to your funds based on social behaviors. The financial system is already rigged, but CBDCs will remove even the illusion of control over your own money.
This is not paranoia; it’s a logical extension of the trajectory we’re on. When every transaction is monitored, every purchase tracked, and every financial decision scrutinized, what you have isn’t money—it’s a permission slip to participate in the economy.
Bitcoin: The Escape Hatch
Bitcoin operates on the exact opposite principle. No central authority. No gatekeepers. No arbitrary rules. When you hold Bitcoin, you hold true financial sovereignty. It cannot be devalued at the whim of a government. It cannot be frozen because of a policy change. It cannot be inflated into oblivion to cover up systemic mismanagement.
Bitcoin is digital property, secured by math and owned outright by whoever holds the keys. It exists outside of the political sphere, offering a neutral and fair playing field for anyone willing to opt in. And unlike CBDCs, which thrive on surveillance, Bitcoin operates on transparency without sacrificing privacy. Transactions are open, but identities remain pseudonymous. It’s the ultimate check against financial tyranny.
The Urgency to Act: DCA into Freedom
The question isn’t if CBDCs will become the standard—it’s when. The infrastructure is already being built, and when the switch flips, escaping that system will be exponentially harder. That’s why stacking Bitcoin now is crucial.
Dollar-cost averaging (DCA) is the simplest, most effective way to accumulate Bitcoin without worrying about price volatility. By setting up a recurring purchase—whether daily, weekly, or monthly—you steadily convert fiat into a form of money that cannot be debased or controlled. It’s the quiet revolution, a steady migration out of the collapsing fiat system and into an incorruptible store of value.
The key is not just buying Bitcoin but owning it properly. That means withdrawing it from exchanges and securing it in self-custody. The moment you hold your own keys, you’ve already opted out of their game. You’ve chosen sovereignty over subjugation. You’ve taken a step toward financial independence.
The Choice is Yours
CBDCs are not coming to give you more freedom—they are coming to take away what little you have left. Governments do not create new financial tools to relinquish control; they create them to tighten their grip. The difference between a world ruled by CBDCs and one powered by Bitcoin is the difference between being watched and being free.
But the window to act is closing. Bitcoin adoption is still early, but as its value becomes undeniable, opting in will become more expensive. Every block that is mined is one less opportunity to buy freedom at a discount.
The time to choose is now. Will you submit to a system where every dollar is monitored, restricted, and controlled? Or will you take the step toward true financial sovereignty? The answer isn’t in words—it’s in action.
Tick Tock, Next Block.

Honestly the Spider-Man pointing meme accurately describes when IbisPaintX users spot each other in the wild. We all just love our favourite drawing programm :D
I generally just really like the amount of functions it has. But that might be in part because I used to do art on FlipaClip, before switching.
Hope you don't mind the late ask that much and i wish you a good day! :)
Of course I don't mind, and thank you! ^^
(If by late you mean late in the day, don't worry, it's 2pm for me at the time of answering 👍)
I started digital art on my laptop with a Wacom tablet, and back then I used Krita a lot and basically learned digital art on it. I learned IbisPaint on my phone, and then got a tablet so I could draw on a screen wherever I went and have just been using IbisPaint since. It's very cool :)

Ok but like... who is actually on the side of AI art? Is there literally anyone who's like, fuck yes, I'm an AI artist (whatever that is) and so forth? Perhaps it's because I live in this tumblr bubble but I legitimately have not seen a lot of people who are actually pro-AI. In fact, I think that AI has way less power than many people (esp artists) fear it has, because most people don't actually WANT AI art. Sure, it might fill a niche, but I don't actually think it will be all that successful. Users don't want to get AI bullshit when they google stuff (if I'm not misinterpreting the consensus), so users will begin to switch it off, and a feature that's not used is usually also one the company doesn't invest in.
I think there are ways in which AI could be helpful, for example in science, I want an AI that helps me with my taxes, helps me find the papers I'm trying to cite, helps me do stupid calculations, one that gives me MORE time to create art, rather than making art FOR me while I continue to struggle with google scholar's awful interface. And I actually believe most people would agree with me! I actually believe most people dont see genAI as an art form. I would be interested in hearing a programmer's or a software engineer's opinion on this. Do they think it's art? Are they happy to have created a code that writes its own code? Do they consider it an art form?
All I'm saying is, I think we needn't be afraid. There have been many revolutions in art, whether it be the switch from classical oil paintings to abstract art forms, or the introduction of digital art. Just think of the music industry! Everything's on Spotify nowadays, but that doesn't mean there aren't still people listening to the radio, or buying vinyls. Art is timeless. AI won't take that away from us. And of course a case can be made for AI taking jobs away from artists and it's a tragedy, but making money with art has always been a struggle and the people who were willing to pay you what your work is worth before AI got big will still be willing to pay you now, because those are the people who care for art, for expression, for authenticity. People/companies who are using AI instead of hiring an artist never appreciated art in the first place.
I'm not saying that we should stop worrying about genAI. Protect your data and your art! Tell Meta AI to fuck off! (Look it up, you can and should reject Mata's attempt to train their AI with your data, on places like Instagram, but you have to do it manually.) Keep speaking up about the fact that it doesn't make sense that this is what AI is being used for when we have so many things in our lives we would actually NOT want to do ourselves and art clearly is a thing that we WANT to do ourselves! Don't stop being aware of this topic. But don't fear. AI can't take something away from you that thousands of years of human history haven't been able to take away from you.

you mention the apollo guidance computer in your bio.
do you have any nerdy fun facts about it?
Thanks for the ask!
It's difficult to convey everything the AGC was, concisely, but here's some highlists:
In terms of size and power, it's comparable to the Apple II, but predates it by 11 years. There are some obvious differences in the constraints placed on the two designs, but still, that's pretty ahead of it's time.
The bare-bones OS written for the AGC was one of the first to ever implement co-operative multi-tasking and process priority management. This would lead problems on Apollo 11, when an erroneously deployed landing radar overloaded the task scheduler on Eagle during the Lunar landing (the infamous 1201/1202 program alarms). Fortunately, it didn't end up affecting the mission, and the procedures were subsequently revised/better followed to avoid the situation ever reoccurring.
Relatedly, it was also designed to immediately re-boot, cull low-priority tasks, and resume operations following a crash -- a property essential to ensuring the spacecraft could be piloted safely and reliably in all circumstances. Many of the reliability-promoting techniques used by Apollo programmers (led by Margaret Hamilton, go women in STEM) went on to become foundational principles of software engineering.
Following the end of the Apollo, Skylab, and Apollo-Soyuz missions, a modified AGC would be re-purposed into the worlds first digital fly-by-wire system. (Earlier fly-by-wire used analogue computers, which are their own strange beasts.) This is, IMO, one of the easiest things to point to when anyone asks "What does NASA even do for us anyway?" Modern aircraft autopilots owe so, so much to the AGC -- and passengers owe so much to those modern autopilots. While there are some pretty well-known incidents involving fly-by-wire (lookin' at you, MCAS), it speaks to the incredible amount of safety such systems normally afford that said incidents are so rare. Pilot error killed so many people before computers hit the cockpit.
AGC programs were stored in a early form of read only memory, called "core rope memory", where bits were literally woven into an array of copper wire and magnets. As a Harvard-architecture machine (programs and variables stored and treated separately), it therefore could not be re-programmed in flight. This would be problem on Apollo 14, when an intermittent short in the LM's abort switch nearly cancelled the landing -- if it occurred during decent, the computer would immediately discard the descent engine and return to orbit. A second, consecutive failure (after Apollo 13) would have almost certainly ended in the cancellation of the program, and the loss of the invaluable findings of Apollo 15, 16, and 17. (These were the missions with the lunar roving vehicles, allowing treks far from the LM.) Fortunately, the MIT engineers who built the AGC found a solution -- convince the computer it had, in fact, already aborted, allowing the landing to occur as normal -- with a bit of manual babysitting from LMP Edgar Mitchell.
Finally, it wasn't actually the only computer used on Apollo! The two AGCs (one in the command module, the other in the Lunar Module, a redundancy that allowed Apollo 13 to power off the CM and survive their accident) were complemented by the Launch Vehicle Digital Computer (LVDC) designed by IBM and located in S-IVB (Saturn V's third stage, Saturn-I/IB's second stage), and the Abort Guidance System (AGS) located in the LM. The AGS was extremely simple, and intended to serve as a backup should the AGC have ever failed and been unable to return the LM to orbit-- something it was fortunately never needed for. The LVDC, on the other hand, was tasked with flying the Saturn rocket to Earth orbit, which it did every time. This was very important during Apollo 12, when their Saturn V was struck by lightning shortly after launch, completely scrambling the CM's electrical system and sending their gimbal stacks a-spinning. Unaffected by the strike, the LVDC flew true and put the crew into a nominal low Earth orbit -- where diagnostics began, the AGC was re-set, and the mission continued as normal.

Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution adds PS5, PS4, Switch, and PC versions
Gematsu Source
Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution will launch for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Switch, and PC via Steam alongside its previously announced Game Boy Advance version in 2024, developer WayForward announced.
Here is an overview of the game, via WayForward:
About
Originally created for the Game Boy Advance system before being put on hiatus midway through development, Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution will be completed after more than 20 years, and will be released digitally on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Steam in 2024, following the release of the previously announced Game Boy Advance-compatible game cartridge. Helmed by the original design team of Shantae creator Erin Bozon, series director Matt Bozon, and programmer Michael Stragey, Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution is the direct follow-up to the beloved original 2002 Shantae game. In this hair-whipping, belly-dancing action-adventure, Shantae’s nemesis, the nefarious pirate Risky Boots, has a “groundbreaking” new scheme that will leave Sequin Land spinning — by rotating the continent, she can move any town to the coast for easy plundering! As Shantae, players must turn the tectonic tables on Risky by rearranging the land itself… shifting, swapping, and moving between the foreground and background to navigate mix-and-match multilayered levels. As Shantae’s adventure unfolds, she’ll explore multiple towns and labyrinths, master six creature transformations, use a variety of magical attacks and items, battle fierce bosses, and meet friends like Rottytops, Sky, and Bolo—some of whom will be encountering each other for the first time. In addition to the single-player story mode, Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution also includes a local 4-player Battle Mode for the first time in the series. Furthermore, players can choose to experience the game with enhanced, HD character portraits and HUD elements, or play with the classic GBA pixel presentation fully intact in Legacy Mode. Following fan-favorite titles such as Shantae: Half-Genie Hero and Shantae and the Seven Sirens, Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution will be the sixth game released in the multi-million-selling Shantae series. In addition to the digital version, a physical edition of Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution will be offered on select platforms from Limited Run Games in 2024. Further information, including details on the preorder window, will be made available in the months ahead.

It's honestly pretty wild that my beloved Art Nouveau toilet paper holder has been in service since at least 1906 (and functions better than anything made in my lifetime as well as being stunningly beautiful), and my stove has been in service since at least 1954 (with more features and beauty Truman modern stoves), and the first CD I bought in 1995 still plays, but there are so many games from my childhood which profoundly shaped me and I will never be able to play them again. I can't even find screenshots for many of them.
I have less than a year to decide between:
"Upgrading" to Windows 11 (which I loathe, and won't run all my software).
Trying to switch back to Linux again (which won't run all my software, and has eventually frustrated me back to using Windows 4 times over 20 years).
Permanently take my desktop offline (which won't run all my software, and be basically useless).
Keep Windows 10 and just rawdog using the malware-ad filled modern internet with no security patches ever again (worked IT helpdesk with an interest in infosec for too many years for this to not give me heart palpitations).
In the 1970s-1980s my dad worked as a backend systems programmer for a major bank on IBM mainframes. They wrote everything themselves in Assembly Language. In the 1980s he wrote a utility program with a date function that got widely used, and had the foresight to think "This could still be in use far into the future, so I better use a 4-digit date." It was still in use in 2000, and as a result the bank has to do very few Y2K upgrades to its backend systems.
In 2012, an old friend who still worked there for so frustrated at contractors saying they couldn't speed up some network login library feature because their preferred modern programming language didn't support it. It was taking over an hour to run. They didn't seem to believe something more efficient had ever been possible.
Finally out of frustration, that guy broke out Dad's old utility (that also processed partitioned data sets) had a and wrote a working demo. It maxed out the entire modern mainframe CPU, but accomplished the task in 1 min 15 seconds. It wasn't put back into production, of course, but it did effectively make the point that the specs were not unreasonable and if the fancy new programming language couldn't do it, then use another damn language that does work.
I did IT in a biolab a decade ago that still had Windows XP computers because it was the only operating system that could run the proprietary software to control the $20k microscopes. Which worked perfectly fine and we didn't have the budget to replace. They had to be on the network because the sneakernet violates biohazard lab safety rules, and there weren't enough modern computers in the lab to sneakernet the files through those without waiting for someone else to finish using it, and no one's work could afford the delays. I left before we fully solved that one, but a lot of firewall rules were involved (if we ever lost the install CDs we were fully fucked because the microscope company went out of business at least a decade earlier).
So yeah, the old magic persists because it worked perfectly fine and it's stupid capitalist planned obsolescence that convinces people the old magic is obsolete. We could actually just keep patching perfectly serviceable orbs forever if we valued ongoing maintenance.
“The old magic persists thanks to it’s unfathomable power.”
No, the old magic persists because the new magic can’t run the legacy spells I need to do my job, and keeps trying to install spirits I don’t want or need onto my orb.
