i was listening to Disembodied Mind in the car w/ my mom and she said one line reminded her of me, and i was just kind of sitting there like “isn’t this song about being nonbinary? I’m not nonbinary what are you talking about”

anyway now I’m questioning if I actually am nonbinary (bc of unrelated reasons) so i think she knows something I don’t lol

it’s about that but also about being at odds with having a body in various ways! maybe she just knows you pick at your skin…

but if the line was “rip the soul from its shell,” I might watch your back (and your soul) around her

I know I'm arriving at the Doctor Who fandom 10 years later with starbucks and everyone probably already talked about that, but I wanna give my own 2 cents.

I saw a tumblr post around saying Eleven's seasons kinda made it so everything that happened in Ten's seasons were pushed aside and obscured so Eleven could be Moffat's specialest little princess.

But it made me think, if Moffat hadn't done that, if he was a less self absorbed writer, if he took Ten into consideration, he could have cooked so hard with Eleven as a successor to him.

Ten was so desperate to remain himself. He held the regeneration back for so long the pent-up energy shattered the TARDIS when it was finally released.

And then... Eleven's smile.

I used to think it was such a tonal shift that after Vale Decem and Ten crying and saying he didn't want to go, Eleven was smiling and laughing in utter glee like that, and yeah, this might part of the show immediately wanting to forget Ten but GOD. THINK ABOUT IT.

Eleven was fighting to become himself, to shed that skin, to crack that egg. It's the same memories. It's the same guy. But at the same time it isn't, it's someone who was fighting to become versus someone fighting to remain the same, and unspeakable ammounts of grief were involved. Eleven was trying to live up to the looming spectre of himself just a few seconds earlier.

Imagine how weird the feelings are, that you know you self-sabotaged your future just because you couldn't let go of the past. Imagine the wrongness that he'd feel inhabiting a new body when his old mind is still pushing the idea onto him that he shouldn't be. that he's something else, something undesirable.

They could've made an entire arc of Doctor Who body dysmorphia, self-sabotage and learning to accept himself as he is, to let go of the past grief and attachment, they could have COOKED I am SO MAD

But on the other hand so intrigued. How do you live up to your own self's ideal of who you should be? You've made yourself known to the entire universe with that face... who are you without it?
