I've mentioned it here and there but one of my HCs is that the reason Dante looks so much older than Vergil in DMC5 is that their appearance mirrors their self perception to an extent, and he thinks of himself as older than Vergil does. Dante thinks he's a worn out old man, so he looks old(er). Vergil on the other hand sees himself as powerful and thus in good shape- and may have a skewed sense of time given how long he was in Hell, which I'd like to say is also evidenced by how young V looks- so while he's not 19, he looks somewhat younger. Or not as worn, really.
The extension of this headcanon is Dante and Vergil essentially aging out of their humanity to an extent, where maintaining their human form becomes an active thing. If Dante thought of himself as younger and put effort into it, he could look younger, and it's probably what would end up happening once he got old enough that a human would die (assuming he wanted to do so at that point). Just like how his demon side is a projection, the human side could be too. Sparda's human form wasn't his natural state. He put that up. So Dante and Vergil could probably do the same. Probably not to the extent of looking 19 again, but they could probably keep themselves looking like they were in their late 20s/early 30s for a long while if they were so inclined.

Is The Devil May Cry Netflix Show Really That Bad?
I watched the entirety of the DMC animated show (and I still insist on not calling it an "anime," as the anime premiered back in 2007, and actually fits inside the canon of Devil May Cry as a whole, after DMC5 completely canonized it.)
I watched it in good faith, as I believe in the sincerity of a good critique. My notes from each segment watched are here, from episode 1 through 3, and here from episode 4 through 6. There is no post with notes for the final episodes, as I was so tired and flabbergasted from watching that season finale was, that I couldn't type those to post.
However, in the following segment of this post, I will include my final notes, as well as my final thoughts regarding the show, fan reactions and some context regarding my own opinions. Will also try to include the basis of my opinions, with segments from the games and 2007 animated show.
Yes, there are spoilers ahead, but we already knew that!
1. The boring recap of the final two epsodes
(If you already know what happens, and don't want the extra commentary, you may skip to the next section.)
Episode 7 opens with Nelo Angelo giving his blood to the Rabbit. Let's put a pin on this for later!
Dante saved Mary and in return, she punched him, after having an awkward, "will they have a romantic connection later?" moment. The punch was overkill. They could've made her just not blush at all.
In this canon, the devil trigger is fed by rage and hatred, which implies that Dante's "makaian" (I still cannot get used to the term, and I'll keep thinking it's pretty silly) heritage is inherently negative, as those two emotions are perceived to be as such.
Magic, demonic power and such concepts are nonexistent in this Alternative Universe.
I kept a tally of the times Mary swears in the two episodes. It was 9, however, I did not count "shit" or "dickhead."
We see Mary try to face a group of demons by herself, and I believe it to be exclusively because she feels like receiving help from Dante is the end of the world. She is a seasoned federally funded demon hunter, she should definitely know better than to fight beings who are much powerful and resilient than her, even with all the equipment she had at hand.
Noting that Kalina Ann is just a military issue weapon, no customization or real meaningful connection to Mary. That is fine, I guess it comes with the fact that this is an interpretation of the DMC story.
Yes, as expected, she is defeated because she seems to "care" about Dante.
Chuck E. Cheese mentioned. What does this have to do with my friend Charles Entertainment Cheese?!
Hell is a homeland to Sparda. Did we forget already that Sparda is a baddie?
Mundus is a dictator btw, not Satan himself, just a political figure, cartoonishly affecting absolutely everyone in "Makai," indiscriminately
Dante bargains to selflessly help Mary, because yes, he is a good guy to a fault. Yes, seemingly Dante is a better person than all of us, because I would not give a fuck about a brutal cop who actively antagonized me.
This segment is a fight between cartoon Cavaliere Angelo and Dante. Since at this point we know that Rabbit created all the abomination-looking demons with mutations, there is no way that this particular demon did not come from Vergil's blood, as we know, all the angelos in the games are constructs based on him. And because mutated demons are created by DNA editing, the Rabbit would have needed Vergil's DNA to mutate a makaian into Cavaliere Angelo.
We cannot make sense of a lot, but that´s ok because Dante is cool!
Surprise! darkcom has been abusing power this whole time, and you have been murdering innocent people. She acts like she's surprised. I am sad for Lady, because Mary is completely ruining her good reputation. There is no way that people can sincerely like Mary, because right now, she is just plainly unlikable, irredeemable and corrupted. I guess that is ok because we all have tragic backstories and traumatic childhoods.
Vice President Wesker calls Lady an attack dog that needs to be brought to heel? Girl ok.
My next note says "the eventual romantic angle is shit." Yes, I agree with me from the time I wrote the note.
Also, the VP being a christian zealot is commentary. Like OK WE GET IT CHRISTIANS ARE BAD!!!
The Rabbit mutated to a behemoth, is rampaging but the anti-demon bullets cannot harm him still. OK all the basis of DNA and mutations stopped being logical as soon as we needed an extra tough guy. Let us also put a pin on this.
The fight with mutated Rabbit was borderline unwatchable, from how bad and stupid it became.
Oh, he seemingly killed Enzo, and Dante is rightfully upset. This actually checks with Dante, and one of the few instances where he is close to his canon personality.
Mary calls Dante the slur again, inviting him to team up. Let's just imagine how this would look if this was a real life scenario.
In this universe, Vergil did not disappear, Dante watched him die.
Mary besmirches the sanctity of "Jackpot" by uttering it herself. I was getting angry at this point.
WELL, they end up winning, and Dante invites her to come with him, in good faith. He still believes that this ruthles, racist cop is still a good person to team up with.
It seems like she has accepted, however... SURPRISE!!! SHE BETRAYS HIM IN THE WORST WAY POSSIBLE. Mary quite literally stabs him in the back.
The VP is an imperialist, and his god asks for a Holy War. A God, that judging the existence of Makai as a different world, does not exist, or at least is not as close to the thing they believe it to be.
The next note simply says "this shit is so ass bro..."
Operation Inferno starts! American Idiot plays! Because they think we are the idiots.
The US occupies and bombs the Middle East Makai! They are sacking their resources!
Final scenes include Dante being frozen in the timeskip chamber after Mary betrayed him.
OH VERGIL IS SHOWN! AND HE IS WORKING FOR KING MUNDUS!!!! What exactly did Mundus free him from? His own humanity?
MUNDUS IS ACTUALLY GOOD NOW!!! AND VERGIL IS VOLUNTARILY WORKING FOR HIM!! AND HE IS NOT FORCEFULLY TRANSFORMED INTO NELO ANGELO! IT'S ACTUALLY HIS DEVIL TRIGGER!!!!! AND YAMATO ALSO TRANSFORMS WITH HIM!!!!!!!!
Did we mention that Vergil IS THE STORM (that is approaching)?!?!?
2. Media insisting upon itself
One of the best expressions ever created to refer something that alleges to be earnest and profound, but in reality is pretentious, gaudy and self-absorbed. Used in Family Guy when Peter shares that he does not like The Godfather.
I truly believe this show insists upon itself, however, unlike what Lois refers to as "language of subtlety," the Devil May Cry Netflix series, is not even close to being fluent in it. They are Big in the fact that this is just an adaptation of the decades-long DMC lore, an adaptation of a beloved main character, an adaptation of a beloved deuteragonist, whose story in her first appearance, ends up being the true heart of the story. It is Lady, abandoning the name that her father gave her, realizing that "there are humans as evil as any devil, as well as kind and compassionate demons in this universe." She tells Dante that even a devil may cry when they lose a loved one.
We know this is just a one-in-a-million occurrence though. Demons are mostly evil, single-minded perverted souls that will not stop until everyone is dead. Demons and Hell, were always unequivocally forces of evil, and they manifest themselves in the human realm through sand, dust, electricity and even by possessing corpses. Majority of them are not in any way sentient, most of them don't have blood and they are magical beings. Only the high-level apparitions, like Phantom, Griffon, Echidna, Berial, etc., have the capacity to speak and rationalize. However, they are still hostile and single-minded in killing anything that comes in their way.
Some of these demons however, recognize the power of the player character and they offer their souls to their fight.
But no, in the Devil May Cry Netflix Show, the beings crossing through random tears in reality are NOT any of this. They are innocent beings, oppressed by a cartoonishly evil tyrant, polluting their ecosystem, pushing them to live in encampments, indirectly killing little children and ruining everyone's life.
They are humanoid, the main difference being that they have horns and they cover them with hoods or head wraps. Your thin veil for middle eastern peoples was too on the nose, Adi.
After episode 5 and 6, the show insists that you HAVE to feel bad for the makaians, because they are innocents, they are just immigrants to the human realm, looking a better life for themselves and their descendants. I think the allegory started allegorizing a little too much at this point.
The product wants you to believe it is good, because it showed refugees (makaians) might seem evil to us but they are actually not. However, they used literal evil, perverted and degenerate beings to be representations of the oppressed. The story tries to manipulate your emotions to convince you that, if you hate the makaians you are a bigot motherfucker yourself.
This is the way the show could probably get shooters to defend it. "You did not like it because it is commentary and gives visibility to the struggles and horrible experiences that refugees and immigrants go through."
Not really. I don't find political commentary from someone who attended the current US president's inauguration and addressed gratitude for the invitation publicly to be sincere or valid. His thoughts and feelings about the current humanitarian crises happening around the world, or in the past, become self-serving ways to appoint himself as a visionary.
(On a side note, that post has comments from 10 weeks ago, calling him a bootlicker, and other users stating that they thought him to be better than that)
3. The misunderstanding of Devil May Cry's characters
People who liked the show, (after seemingly turning their brains off, or being completely new to DMC) allege that people who did not enjoy the show are purists, stupid and want always the same. They call out nostalgia, and that somehow, naysayers are trying to gatekeep the story of an old, neglected franchise to keep the, in their opinion, "lackluster and shallow story" pristine.
Might be the case, only if Devil May Cry had a story that could be described with those two adjectives - Capcom has never worried to include much backstory in the games, but through almost 25 years of history, we know the overarching story of Devil May Cry, which has always been a battle between good and bad. Not a lot of people are morally grey in this universe, and there are no anti-heroes to be had. Red is red, Blue is blue.
However, I believe V might have come close to being a little grey, since he was always Vergil's humanity - at the end though, he accepts that all he wanted was to be cared for, and showed guilt for all the genocides he caused. BUT... He goes back to Urizen and unifies into the old asshole we've always known (and some loved.)
Shankar not only showed that he did not understand Vergil from the beginning, calling him an "anti-hero," but shows that he did not truly understand when he was watching the games cutscenes, if he even played the games at all.
Which of the characteristics of an anti-hero does Vergil possess? Maybe idealism for himself, in his constant selfish chase for power - morality for a few seconds when he teams up with Dante to kill the perversion of Sparda that Arkham had become. That does not redeem him, because he did not save anyone but himself. He had already killed hundreds, if not thousands of people when he brought Temen-Ni-Gru from the ground. We could allege that he was being manipulated by Arkham... But truly, he believed he would just rid of him at the end and keep the power for himself only.
That was just the sidebar. Vergil is not an anti hero, he is by all means a villain. Which takes me to the first pinned note: Vergil would NOT give his blood to the Rabbit for experimentation.
We understand that the Dante seen on the show is just Nero in disguise, the voice to the jokes - I was a prophetess when said before, that he would never say that. Never thought that my gift of clairvoyance referred to a your mom joke. No hate to Johnny, because he did a good job. However, he is already a character that is notorious and loved, so we cannot separate his voice from Nero. It was not until the final two episodes that I kind of stopped hearing Nero, but I heard no Dante though, that's for sure.
But the most egregious misunderstanding of a character, reputation assassination and pseudo empowering happened to Lady. To quote the guy himself:
Tumblr media
Well, he did NONE of this. He conveniently changed Lady's story to turn her into a character that only shares name and appearance with her. Arkham (father) was a cowardly bitch whose only resort was to turn into a demon after one single attack in which he was paralyzed in fear, he killed Kalina over seemingly nothing (because there is no priestess blood in this universe,) and then Mary burned him alive. I guess? He might come back for some reason, who knows.
I saw some opinions regarding her character on twitter, and one went something like "well she is better in the show because she's had about 2 seconds of dialogue in the games after 3," and when I know and agree that the women in Devil May Cry suffer from under-usage and poor writing, Lady's CANON story and personality are much better than the slop presented in the show.
I don't know what exactly they were attempting to accomplish, either she is a tough, strong, independent girlboss type, or she is being made into an example that even women can be shitty. Whichever of these options is the right one, both are tired, little strategies to attempt at making a deep, interesting character that fall really flat.
📌Among the nonsensical things within the show, what stood the most to me, as a biologist, is the fact that the demons we see are created through "nazi experimentation" (as told by Lady Mary.) All demons are forcefully mutated into more bizarre, warped beings with science, and Rabbit himself figured out a way to keep himself alive with consuming demon makaian blood. At the end of the season, Rabbit himself unmasks and shows that he is an abomination himself, and chugs the blood out a demon. It kind of reminded me when in Dragon Age 2, the First Enchanter Orsino transformed himself into a rampaging demonic abomination.
The problem here, was that the anti-demon bullets were NOT working on the guy, despite having MUTATED completely into a demon. His body was pumped full with blood, and he also CONSUMED the blood of a demon - these bullets worked on Dante, who is naturally human. But they did not work in a guy who committed to the demon bit in a last attempt to fight.
Did anyone care for continuity or scientific rationale?📌
4. Fan nostalgia and Elitism among fans
While every piece of content is sometimes up to the consumer's interpretation, there are some things that are intentionally misrepresented and misinterpreted by fandom, inevitably. Lately (and I am referring probably around the time DMC5 was announced) the Devil May Cry fandom has chosen to comply with a fanon interpretation of Dante which might be annoying to some of us. Yes, 40-something-year-old Dante is a kissless virgin, who loves pizza, jokes and strawberry sundaes. He has never felt the touch of another human being, and is incapable for being sexual.
Where the fuck did this come from? I theorize that it is from the fandom filling the void of almost a decade without any content of the mainline Devil May Cry games.
I have been part of this fandom longer than Tumblr has been around, from the time where forums were the only way to communicate with other fans, and it was probably never like this - I do not remember at what point in time Dante was flanderized into what some sector of the fandom considers him to be. And I am bringing this up, because Shankar seems to have liked this interpretation of Dante, and put him on the screen - also the fact that the amulet in the cartoon is the amulet from DmC, so he was definitely highly inspire to attempt to splice those two Dantes-but-not-really-Dante into one for his visionary work.
This tweet expresses just how I feel regarding the complete bastardization of Dante's character by a sector of the fandom:
Tumblr media
Eventually, some will start to roll with it, because they believe it is a funny way to engage with content of a video game series that has been criminally neglected by Capcom, however, the creators in charge of producing actual, real, canon content for the game would pick it up and think it works.
This is kind of what happened with the DMC cartoon. Shankar believes that DMC is cringe, Dante is a little meme guy and that he is all laughs, pizza and crazy stunts.
Thank god that he is not in charge of making any real canon content for DMC because he did not understand absolutely any of the characters, their world, or the fandom.
We are not wrong for engaging with this content for a few laughs, and also not wrong for thinking of it as lowbrow and erroneous.
When DmC: Devil May Cry was announced, I was a teenager, creating fan content online. The announcement came out as a true surprise, as we had absolutely no content, not even a special edition to the successful DMC4... When I watched the trailer, I did it with an open mind, and I felt somehow alienated and, at times, ignorant for not absolutely hating it.
It's not my fault for liking edgelord shit!!!
I did not stop liking it, or treating it as a true, deserving entry in the DMC history - the story was OK, the character, enemy and world designs were very good, and one of the most important aspects, the gameplay was great. It was fun to play. The music was fucking great, both the original soundtrack, and the Combichrist songs that somehow perfectly fit the narrative of the game - and I am getting to the point here, which is that I always keep an open mind to the new things presented when it's Devil May Cry, because I want to give them a fair chance, maybe they would not be bad.
DmC, as I remember, was almost universally hated among the fandom. Years went by, and DMC4SE was announced, which was a glimmer of hope for the continuation of the franchise. I spent hours upon hours promoting the release, sharing gifs, links and screencaps to help sell the damn game, because we all knew that it was testing the waters, checking if there was still interest in Dante and DMC.
It was to NOT my surprise, that when DMC5 was announced, so many things from DmC were reused. Especially Nero's new edgy look. What a great moment for me.
But anyway...
Many people believe that the DMC fandom is overreacting to the shitshow that the show is. Some believe that having a mid product is better than letting DMC collect dust. That the most recent game was released too long ago, and content is needed - it was only five years ago. Like that's too long... Maybe to other fandoms, but time works different if you are a fan of Devil May Cry.
We don't dislike and rebuke the poor invention of Adi's because of nostalgia goggles. We hate it because it's tired, insincere, self-serving, and a poor interpretation of characters who are well known and loved. It is also a work that reinvents real-life oppressed peoples as "demons," as if they were not the victim of such slander in the real world already. It is not commentary, it is opportunism.
It also insists upon itself.
I have observed people using their fan card to defend the show - "I have been a fan since--" type of arguments. One Twitter user posted themselves laying surrounded by their Devil May Cry merch to reply to a tweet where someone called them out regarding the show. I don't believe in civil fandom war, but believing yourself to be above everyone because of the money or time you've spent on something is truly below adult conversations.
I have been hit with "pick-me opinion" simply because I am a woman. My tweets get replies which infer that the people engaging with them think of me as a man, despite my girly looking profile.
I have been a fan of these games for almost as long as I've been alive, and I am pushing 30. I have been posting on forums, this site and twitter since I got internet access in my early teens. I do not believe my opinion to be above anyone's, I just think that an informed, impartial opinion is better than anything. And I already tried to engage with the content in good faith.
And in good faith, I can say that the Devil May Cry show on Netflix is shit.
Read the plot on Wikipedia.

So I've been replaying the old DMC games for the first time in decades and i have THOUGHTS and OPINIONS and those will be below the cut, i wont make you suffer. But in the meantime, I am a firm believer that DMC2 Dante's outfit + DMC1's rolled up sleeves and black undershirt would go hard as hell!
We'll start with my Big Hot Take:
DMC2 > DMC4
Yes, DMC4 has better gameplay. Yes, DMC4 has a better (has an actual) story, and yes, DMC4 Dante > DMC2 Dante. Yes to all of those things. And yes, they're both unfinished messes in their own way.
But 2 was short, it was goofy as hell with so many insane line reads i wish so bad there were more spoken lines in the game, and it was easy. Braindead easy, sure, but I had a good laugh counting how many encounters I could win by standing still and holding the rocket launcher button. Also the combat isnt nearly as bad as people make it out to be. Its not great but its serviceable enough that theres some minor fun in there. Do you have any idea how many times you enter an area only to have the camera facing Dante for an INCREDIBLY LONG TIME as you run towards it with no context for where you're going? its incredible! A playable shitty B-Movie! Dumb as hell but a good laugh!
4 sure plays better and has a real story but that just, like, amplifies the bad parts of it. I dropped the game originally back on the 360 at mission 15 and I don't blame my younger self at all. The level design has so many obnoxious gimmicks that slow things down, the fight arenas are almost always way bigger than necessary so you don't even see most of them or waaaay too small with a shit camera hiding enemies from you, and I swear starting at the forest missions all the level and enemy design can eat shit.
Like people make fun of DMC2 for being the Gun Shooty Game and I'm not defending Infested Helicopter Boss like no that isnt fun or good design, but i DID laugh at the horrible animations as the chopper zoomed around in the air! But 4? Between the Miphistos and Fausts and Chimera infested enemies and the Blitz, do you understand how many enemies are designed around you shooting them for long periods of time in this game? Particularly with Dante since you cant yank at them like Nero?
4 also has the worst boss rush in the series, having ALREADY fought all of them twice just before it AND needing you to play the stupid dice minigame to even get to the fight itself (Thank goodness the dice actually has predictable rolls if you just buster them)
Plus smaller gripes like Dante only having 3 weapons each and Rebellion is just DMC3's Rebellion and Gilgamesh's moveset is mostly cloned from Beowulf from 3 and Lucifer... is probably neat? But its weird to use and not too satisfying out of the gate. I know you can do crazy shit with the game's physics and combat engine but more casually it just kinda isn't impressive.
Anyway, yeah 4 hits higher highs than 2 but damn I just enjoyed my time with 2 as a silly little game while 4 actively frustrated the hell out of me numerous times.
HOT TAKES OVER, COLD TAKE TIME:
DMC3 remains amazingly solid, to the surprise of absolutely nobody. It was my first time getting to play the Special Edition too (only had the OG as a kid) so i got to play as Vergil finally! Just as kid me always wanted but couldnt afford to blow a game purchase on the Special Edition!
Definitely a few annoying enemies in 3 but aside from a few encounters with Soul Eaters they're mostly pretty good! Camera was rarely an issue which was great (Camera sucks frequently in 2 and 4). The combat is great but Dante without Swordmaster feels pretty limited so mods or the Switch version that adds style switching would be great if you want to play with anything else.
Being stuck to 2 weapons at a time never felt too restrictive and going Swordmaster the entire game made fighting stylishly very fun.
Vergil in 3 does feel rough compared to 5, but still solid enough and fun to play. 4 absolutely guts his Trick moves so that Trick Up gets disabled if you Air Trick or ranged attack at all and Trick Down is locked to DT for some godforsaken reason. Otherwise 4 feels pretty decent to play as Verg. 3's main problem is how ABSURDLY LONG it takes to charge attacks so Judgement Cut and Round Trip (and Dante's Drive) are all much harder to pull off than the other games, plus you cant do them in the air so you need some space, unlike 4-5 where you can just jump up and JC everything into oblivion if you want to.
Overall 3 is still really fun and I'll probably go back to it again soon.
DMC1 is the only one i havent replayed yet, so Ill get around to that at some point soon here I'm sure, but its DMC1. Pretty sure "jank and old but competent enough to be fun" is a pretty safe bet.
I mean i enjoyed DMC2, so i doubt 1's jank will bother me.

i have mixed feelings about this. On the one hand, it's on character, particularly Dante.
On the other hand, it somewhat diminished the open ending atmosphere.
Lastly, glad Kat gives him a dick punch. He reels a little from her punch😂

DMC HEADCANNONS 4!!!!!!! THE BRAIN WORMS ARE BACK AND IM HERE AGAIN
Disclaimer, this edition of headcannons will have darker content. if you don't feel comfortable with any of the topics I mention please don't read, I don't want to make anyone uncomfortable or upset. Not all will be bad but I just had some ideas and wanted to say them.
TW: CANNIBALISM, MANIPULATION
☆•☆•☆•☆•☆•☆•☆•☆•☆•☆•☆•☆•☆•☆•☆
• Vergil has and will resort to cannibalism to get by. As a child if he couldn't steal or beg for food he'd starve til he came across demon attack sites and salvage what flesh he could off of people and other demons. Nowadays he doesn't need to worry since Dante makes sure he's well fed but I think when Vergil and Dante were in hell, Vergil was a little too quick to resort to eating demon carcass....
• Trish still definitely uses the fact she looks like Eva to get stuff out of Dante. From minor things like a small favour or lunch to bigger things like secrets and information Dante keeps under wrap from everyone. She feels bad about it sometimes.
• Lady hates cockroaches. Shes so scared of them to the point of almost pulling kalina-ann on a few. Dante also hates cockroaches but it's more gross-factor rather than fear (even through he looks like a cockroach in his dt)
• When Dante was younger, he often got gifted fancy cologne or other things by regular clients. He, of course, pawned these things off to help fund his rent and debilitating pizza addiction. This whole situation ended quite awkwardly when one of these clients found a bottle of Versace cologne in a pawn shop with a custom label reading "For Dante, as thanks for all your work!". He now keeps all client gifts well on display for them to see.
• Nero isn't actually a huge fan of video games. The closest he maybe got to ever playing one was doing the daily wordle. Kyrie however, LOVES video games and as soon as she was introduced to games from outside of fortuna she was hooked. She especially loves soulslike games. (She plays heavy weapons class builds)
• Going along the tech route, I feel like vergil would know how to use a computer, but only how to make Microsoft Excel spreadsheets and Word documents. You couldn't explain how to use the internet let alone how to use a website to him. (He would love a kindle though, I just know it.)
• Dante likes Microsoft solitaire.
• V headcanon??? Shock!!!!! In the short time V was alive, he gained penchant for sweet drinks or anything sweet in a cup really. Milkshakes, iced chocolates, parfaits, soft drinks and soda floats (he especially liked melon soda floats). Nothing was off the table. Things in tall glasses with straws or long spoons were easier to hold and consume with a more easily fatigued body and the sugars definitely helped him feel a bit better. This love of sweet things ended up transferring over to Vergil, who, when alone, now orders ridiculously sweet desserts and drinks.

G’day! I’m working on my Riley Pierce DmC fan fic and Riley is showing WR the best hits of the 2000s and I’m curious…. What kind of music do you think Rabbit would listen to? I figure he’s a classical music man. Judging by his character, I definitely know which genres of music he doesn’t care for. lol
Hmmmm…. I guess it mostly depends on which version of him we’re talking about… I feel like pre-Darkcom he probably was a classical music dude, maybe soft jazz kinda dude…maybe even a little R&B here and there…things that can be in the background and not distract him…
Post-Darkcom? I feel like the base is the same but contrast to how a lot a people feel, I think his music taste gets a bit more chaotic. 🤣😅😅😅
Whether it’s rock or rap, I can’t unsee him blasting something aggressive and “fuck the oppression” themed. Maybe early 80s/90s rap and rock music that he just happens to vibe with? Especially once he starts planning people dying, I just feel like he’s got unhinged music egging him on in the background 🤣
I just…I feel like he’d be a Kendrick Lamar Stan truly 🤣🤣
I have a funny head cannon in my mind of him and the demon crew riding away in that military truck blasting “Whim Whamiee” with the extra loud bass and I aim to either edit or draw it at some point cause it brings tears to my eyes. I just see him nodding off beat and only being able to say the ad libs 🤣🤣🤣
PS sorry for the delay on this one, I was in labor when you initially asked and I forgot to come back to it 😭😭❤️

so this was my tweet answer on that Hear Me Out ship post
Circa 2012-13 I saw this YouTube video edit of a Yuna x Dante DmC ship
It's definitely earlier before the game even came out because the clips they used with Dante are all from trailers and not much else
Yuna had more clips and it's more so the ffx Yuna and it was like a 20 second or less video edit
It was barely viewed by anyone at that time but barely any negative comments (like anything related to the reboot dmc is always followed by negativity unfortunately)
But no just ppl loving the ship and thinking how it's gonna be like
And I'm sad because..... This has been in my head for years, my memory of it haunts me and worse is that I didn't download it because I thought "the internet is forever" kinda thing but of course I was so wrong, it's long gone and so are massive crossover fandom ships but anyway....
I forgot to mention the song they used was Lost by Paper Aeroplanes
I think it's why i can still remember this ship is because of that song😭💗

I tend to buy birthday presents for myself... due to reasons, and I have a list of what I plan to order. So it's here by my b-day.
1.) Wesker Tsum Tsum [Ordered; Not Shipped Yet] - I want to join this strange yet (seemingly) wholesome cult. I also want to smuggle him into my job, I think it'd be funny.
2.) DmC: Devil May Cry (Definitive Edition) PS4 [Not Ordered Yet] - I love the soundtrack and think it's a good game story and mechanics-wise (I don't think it's a good DMC game. It lacks the flair that is famous for the Devil May Cry name.)
3.) Metal Gear Solid V: The Definitive Experience (Ground Zeroes + The Phantom Pain) PS4 [Not Ordered Yet] - I love MGS (obviously) and I want to have and play as many games as possible from the franchise.
I'm holding out so much hope that the person I ordered the Wesker tsum tsum doesn't cancel my payment.
Also got copies of RE2R and RE3R, I'm so excited to play them on my days off work. (Rookie Leon, my beloved <3).
I would absolutely buy a copy of the Silent Hill 2 Remake if they remake the Born from a Wish DLC.

Hello! Do you remember when I talked about the theater of the omniverse? Well I finally got a few ideas and concepts! I decided to write this down before I forget! My idea was to have characters from different universes react to the Creator/Reader. These scenarios in the theater could be fluff comedy or angst depending! So the universe I had in mind are: Honkai Star Rail, Honkai Impact 3rd, Gun Girls Z (even though I don’t know much about it but fuck it, since it’s technically Hoyo’s first child in a way. Or was it another one that came first? Meh whatever), Genshin Impact, Zenlese Zone Zero, Path to nowhere (Even though I just kinda started and I haven’t touched the game in a while), Punishing Gray Raven, Wuthering Waves, Reverse 1999 (I need to touch this game again), Fate Grand Order, Azur lane (The lore is a bit confusing especially with the whole anime adaption), Nikke, Miside, Arknight, Kingdom Hearts,Nier and Dmc, (Maybe Neon Evangelion)
So my idea was to have the characters interact about the Creator/Reader such as backstory, facts, fan arts or edit. Even though I can’t draw, my life depended on it. I kinda want to write how I picture this scenario
Scenario 1:
The Creator/Reader appears in their full divine form, possessing masculine and feminine qualities possesinh 12 beautiful and pure white snow wings, holding a big black orb that contains countless universes and worlds. Their face appears serene and peaceful with a gentle and warm smile, a complete contrast to their pain they are feeling. They have multiple back spears stuck on their back as golden blood oozes from their back. They also have broken chains and shackles around their neck and wrist. Blood pouring out of their golden mouth and blood tears coming their mouth and eyes. Yet they embrace the orbs like a mother tending to their daughter, Like a father protecting his son, Like a lover who’s only love will disappear if they let go…
This little fanart I pictured in my head is full of symbolism. The black spear on the Creator/Reader represents their pain and responsibilities as the Creator. Physical, Mental and Emotional, it’s their burden, a burden only they can understand and only they can feel. The broken chains and shackles around their neck and wrist represent freedom, Choice and responsibility. Despite them literally having all the power on the word they choose to wield it for their creations. They don’t use or abuse that power for selfish gains and instead wield it for their creations. It shows that the idea of “freedom” is an illusion. It kinda reminds me of Kenny Ackermen from Attack on Titan quote: “Everyone is a slave to something” (This Quote hits hard because it’s kinda true. Whether it’s dream, power, religion we all need a purpose in life). The Creator/Reader is a slave to love. Love for their creation and love for the world that they cherish even if it isn’t perfect. The way that they embrace said universal orbs and refuse to let go despite the pain shows they have a pure and unconditional love, something so truly rare. ( small note: I kinda gave the Creator/Reader both feminine and masculine traits since in my humble opinion besides to keep this fair so that anyone could read. The Creator/Reader a conceptual being that can changed their form anytime)
Scenario 2 (This one I was scrolling through tiktok and I found an interesting concept. Which was “The best representation” with the song “a little Death” by The Neighbourhood.)
https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZP8jwmw1A/
In this little scenario I feel like the Creator/Reader represents many concepts:
Altruism- The unselfish regard for or devotion to the welfare of others (definition by Merriam-webster dictionary and thesaurus)
Sacrifice
Love (It can be both platonic or romantic. However the Creator/Reader have this unconditional love for their creations)
Humanization- I felt like this would fit very well with the Creator/Reader because a lot of people thought that the creator couldn’t understand them however that’s untrue
Loneliness- to be clear Loneliness and Isolation are not the same here. Because you can be isolated but not feel lonely. In this case despite the Creator/Reader having so many people besides them they know their time is limited and the reader will forever remain
Scenario 3: What if the entire omniverse saw the Creator/Reader “Die”. Now the Creator/Reader cannot die in a traditional sense since their death will mean the end of the omniverse but what if they experience something similar. Let’s put a scenario in which they had to sacrifice themselves or their body to make sure the omniverse was on the verge of destruction because the omniverse was somehow dying because of something they did? Or perhaps they made a human body to try and fight this powerful enemy only they could put down but ended up dying in the process. (Like making the death sad for example: Maybe they were cut in half by Satoru Gojo from jujutsu kaisen or like Arthur from Fire Force. Or maybe they ended up dying like future Gohan from Dragon ball z or like Jiraiya from Naruto). Even though the reader came back it shows a couple of things. It shows that the Creator/Reader is not afraid to put their life on the line for their creation and that the Creator/Reader is much braver and selfless than they thought. This humanizes the reader even more than possible as even if people who could potentially have resentments towards them they can’t deny their love and commitment (I kinda had this thought while the Creator/Reader “dead” and their corpse slowly disappears while smiling as they had flasbacks and memories spend with their creations as they are finally safe. the song “Daylight” by David Kushner is playing to add more emotional background in the theater.
I feel like a lot of these characters from different universes will break down or turn full yanderes. But I also feel like some will end up reflecting for example: I feel like Venti will and might reflect on their concept of freedom. Hell even the more jokester characters like Dante (dmc) won’t joke about this
Characters who are parental such as Xianyun (Cloud Retainer), Natasha (Hsr), Raven (Natasha, Hi3rd who had an adopted daughter), Cocolia (Hsr, Hi3rd, Ggz) Madame Ping (Genshin Impact), Alice (Genshin Impact), and so on will feel the urge to hug their children at the sight or any loved one
I feel like some characters would wish to become stronger to help the Creator/Reader in someway such as: Kiana (HI3rd, ), Mei (Hi3 and Ggz), Bronya (Ggz, Hi3d and hsr), Vergil (Dmc) , Dante (Dmc), Trailblazer (Hsr), Rover (wuwa), Alpha (Pgr), Lucia (Pgr), Lee (Pgr), Miyabi (Zzz), Traveler (GI), Durandal (hi3rd), Rita Rossweisse or Rosefallen (Hi3rd),and so on
The more arrogant, emotionally distant or evil chracters would feel something such as: Arlecchino (Gi), La signora (GI), Dottore (GI), Scar (Wuwa), Otto apocalypse (Hi3rd and Ggz), Vita (Hi3rd), Dr. Mei (ggz, this version from what I’ve seen and searched is worst than otto), Zoya (Path to nowhere), All of the herrschers (Hi3rd and Ggz), Gilgamesh (Fgo), Abyss twin (GI) Sirens (Azur lane), some Ipc members and fatui members and so on
The more stoic and compose characters would breakdown or feel unbearable sadness such as: Kafka (Hsr), Jingliu (Hsr), Welt Yang (Hi3rd and hsr), Raiden Ei (Gi),Jinzhi (Wuwa), Sanhua(Wuwa), Jiyan (Wuwa), Yinlin (Wuwa), Artoria Pendragon (Fgo), Zhongli (Gi), Blade (Hsr), Ruan Mei (hsr), Aglaea (Hsr), Kevin Kaslana (Hi3rd and ggz), 2B and A2 (Nier), Rapi (Nikke), Dr. MEI (hi3rd), Castorice (Hsr) and so on…
But i’m conviced that more than half of these character would turn full yandere after witnessing all of that. (That is if we ignore the already obvious ones like Callmeya (wuwa), Akagi (Azur Lane), Taihou (Azur lane) and like soo many others)
What do you think of this concept qnd ideas? (Sorry if it was long I got way to excited and poor all of my ideas while writting this. Also i decided to reveal myself since lately I've been feeling comfortable enough with you. I also wanna talk about the anon that added the cookie run idea into the omniverse: First: Thank you for being honest and two: I hope that you are doing very well and that you keep adding this to idea. It makes me very happy making this and I hope that more people keep adding their ideas and creativity to this).
First off—thank you. Genuinely. For trusting me with these raw, layered, and deeply personal ideas. The passion behind your words radiates off the page, and seeing how much heart and thought you've poured into your omniverse concept, from themes of sacrifice to divine identity, is incredible. You’ve built something beautiful—and it’s more than just fanfic fuel, it’s myth-making on a conceptual level.
Let me start by saying: this Theater of the Omniverse idea? It slaps. The fact that you’re letting these vastly different worlds and characters come together, united by the emotional weight and mystery of the Creator/Reader, is both brilliant and cathartic. It’s like watching gods, mortals, machines, and monsters alike all grapple with the one being who ties them all together—and it humanizes them as much as it humanizes the Reader.
Scenario 1: Divine Form & Symbolism
The visual you described—twelve snow-white wings, blood and golden tears, chains, spears, and an orb held like a parent—is a painting in words. It has this quiet reverence and sacred pain. There’s a clear draw from angelic imagery, but with the unique twist of the Creator being a slave to love. That Kenny Ackerman quote? Absolute poetic fire. Because it’s true—your Reader is an omnipotent being bound by care, not power. It’s a fresh take on divine responsibility, and the concept of power willingly restrained for the sake of love gives me chills.
Scenario 2: Concepts & Humanity
The song pairing with “A Little Death” and the meaning behind each concept—Altruism, Sacrifice, Love, Humanization, Loneliness—makes this theater feel more like a shrine. The idea that the Creator can’t die but chose to put themselves on the line gives the characters, and the audience, something deeper to reflect on. It's not just about worship—it’s about understanding, and maybe even grief. Their love is divine, but their pain is unmistakably human.
Scenario 3: The Illusion of Death
The moment where the Creator/Reader “dies” in a blaze of sacrifice (Gojo-style or Jiraiya-style) and vanishes with a smile, as memories flicker and “Daylight” plays—yeah, that one would wreck the audience emotionally. That’s your Infinity War moment. And the aftermath you imagined—the breakdowns, the yandere spirals, the regretful reflections, the desire to become stronger—it all tracks. You’ve matched characters’ personalities to reactions in a way that makes this feel real. This is the stuff of great ensemble tragedies, where everyone mourns differently, but they all feel it.
The fact that you’re comfortable sharing these thoughts now means a lot—and it’s been a joy watching your vision grow from intriguing snippets into a full-blown emotional epic.
Also, shoutout to the CRK anon! It’s really cool to see mutual respect and creativity bouncing back and forth.

Howdy howdy.
A little birdie told me requests were open and I had to ask: Can I request Dante with a s/o who’s a cowboy-themed devil hunter?
Love,
Rodeo
Tumblr media
notes: and howdy back at you, Rodeo! my, can you guys believe that Rodeo, one of my favorite DMC writers of Tumblr, is here on my humble blog? geez, I got so so happy once I saw you here, please feel very welcome on my lil silly saloon!
this was very fun to make, not gonna lie, took most of the inspiration at my full-time Overwatch's Cowboy (a.k.a Cole Cassidy) lover period, and yeah, Dante with a Cowboy Devil Hunter s/o would be very funny to see hehehehe
i hope you enjoy the ride, Rodeo! <3
♡ tags: gender-neutral reader, no use of pronouns, no description of reader's appearance, Cowboy word is gender-neutral as well because yes everybody can be a Cowboy, some fluff I guess, Dante loves you so much and the end have a itty bitty angsty moment.

ⓘ gif's not mine!!
This man is over the moon, that's for sure.
We all know Dante had/have a thing for western-themed things (we're all looking at his chaps and cowboy boots in DMC4 at the moment), now imagine him having a S/O who's literally a Cowboy?
He's definitely lovestruck.
Thinks you're badass, you are badass and no one's changing his mind.
Always mouth wide open of how impressed he is seeing you in action.
Now cut for him showing off as usual so he can impress you too. Don't we all love this man?
He will wear Dr. Faust most 100% of the time you two go out on missions together.
"Look, sugar! We match!"
Also had a blast of glee when you wore Dr. Faust once.
Oh, and he'll wear — not to say steal — your hat too. Loving is sharing.
Silly goofy cowboy-themed nicknames for you, but most are just romantic and/or cute.
"I'm your huckleberry, honeypie~" "Indeed, you are, Dante."
If you ever have a Southern accent, you'll see Dante blushing from pink to cherry-red when you're speaking. He thinks you're voice is so sensual.
Also, yes, please sweet-talk to him — whether in public or not, much for Vergil's dismay —, he'll be a happy demon purring puddle.
"Who's my lil, sweet daredevil?" (Cut for Dante purring on the background)
Tell me you have a Devil Arm that's a lasso, by the love of Sparda. He'll be astonished and even more over the moon.
And sure, he'll convince you — a.k.a make his infamous puppy dog eyes — to let him use it.
Yet he also planned to got stuck by it so he can flirt with you.
"Looks like you got your price, honeysuckle?" "Dante, please, we're in the middle of a mission—"
It doesn't really matter how many Devil Arms you have on store, Dante will convince you to let him use, even if it's just for a bit. He'll let you use his, too, and yes he's mesmerized as heck seeing your proficiency with them.
I dare to say, he's even more in love with you.
Let's enter the angst field for a bit, with the classic "Dante knows you're badass yet he's afraid to lose you". He knows you're capable and strong, hell, that's one of the reasons he fell for you; but goddamn, what if you got hurt and he's not there to give you cover as he always does? Fuck, he doesn't even wanna think of the day you decide you're better off without him.
"My ridin' will always have you there, Dante. Y'know I love you with my heart and soul of coal, honeybun."
He's crying and he's hugging you like it was the last time, that's for sure. He loves you like a country love song.
Overall, Dante's your huckleberry, you're his honeypie, the love of his life, the step on his groove because you're so smooth. Have a very fun ride with this devilish cowboy!

I’m not into DMC (yet, probably) but I have the DMC: Definitive Edition and I know a lot of DMC fans hate it for some reason (idk why I think it’s lore reasons), but I love it and I think it’s one of the best hack and slash games I’ve ever played and I love the art and ADORE the soundtrack for it.
