This was a lot of fun! A bit stressful at some points (character comps are a bench to organize, haha), but I'm glad I managed to get it done. I love these dorks so much and hope to maybe do more with them in the future. I hope y'all liked them as well!

I had literally never drawn these two before, so it was a bit of a challenge. But I am happy with how they turned out. I got to refine my painterly shading and hide some easter eggs too...

Mr. Gentleman Mouse Thief is in my mind at the moment, so allow me to talk about him for a little bit.

Daroach isn't my most talked about Kirby character or anything, but I sincerely think that he's really cool beans.

Squeak Squad is... on the lower end of Kirby games for me, but at least it did introduce a very cool character in Daroach.

He's definitely my favorite out of the wave 2 dream friends.

I love that this guy just has an aura of coolness around him not commonly seen in most others in the cast. And I also love that even after redeeming himself, he's legit canonically still a thief LMAO.

Daroach's thievery antics make a lot of room for potential as to how he could interact with others in the cast, in my opinion.

I don't necessarily take Star Allies intro gags as either canon or gospel, but I'm well aware of the gag where Daroach steals Magolor's ship away from him. And I think that was utterly hilarious.

My interpretation of Daroach is that he's laidback, good-humored, and is capable of notable kindness as he has a soft spot for some people (most notably his squad, Kirby, and the rest of wave 2). But he also very much enjoys causing mischief via committing robberies.

He steals from most of the other dream friends, quite frankly. Although it's not particularly personal as he doesn't really have disdain for any of them. He just does it because it's fun and enriching for him. He's relatively indiscriminate in terms of who he robs, as there are only a few people that he truly won't steal from.

Those few people include Kirby (because he ain't gonna mess with Kirby), Adeleine, Ribbon (because he'd feel terrible to steal from them), and Meta Knight (he'd want you to believe the reason he doesn't steal from Meta Knight is because of how cool Meta is, but in reality it's because Meta Knight WOULD MAKE HIM REGRET IT).

Daroach is a trollish guy in my headcanons. He's good-humored, like I said. He cracks bad jokes and he might talk your ear off when he's hanging out with you. Part of the motivation of him stealing from certain people such as King Dedede is by virtue of liking to get a rise out of them.

My interp of Daroach being this good-humored is what allows him and Marx to be friends, as they both have that "enjoyment from getting reactions out of people" thing in common. They've definitely teamed up together in mischief before.

I've also blessed Dark Meta Knight by having him be buddies with Daroach.

I like to imagine Daroach's (and by extension, the entire squeak squad's) home being secretive. Like a hideout. It'd make sense because if people found out, their place would totally get raided in revenge for all the robbery attempts. My headcanon is that the squeak squad has their hideout located in a secret place in the Popstar country of Sand Canyon (an area introduced in Dreamland 3).

But yeah, that kinda sums it up here. I've got a lot more for Daroach that I could talk about but I'm gonna keep it brief (at least in comparison to a lot of my other posts LOL).

The guy is super cool and sly, and the stuff we have to work with for him can be very fun use in terms of how he could interact with other characters. Mischievous gentleman thief that's laidback and likes to have fun!

💘 and 👀 for darkroach in the Kirby Ship Ask Game?

(We need more darkroach in this life they make me ill-)

(Heck yeah, agreed, more of my wretched crime boys please, haha! But, yes, on to the questions! Buckle up, 'cause I went a little ham on these...)

1. 💘 What was their first meeting like/how did they meet? Was it love at first sight or did they not like each other at first?

I can’t get into the KAU first meeting ‘cause that’s a pretty major plot point that I’d like to delve into in the future, but my headcanon for general canon Darkroach is that they probably would've met some time during the events of Kirby Star Allies, basically the whole Wave 2 gang stumbling into one another during the chaos of the Jamba Heart mess, mismatched and bickering but forced to work together to get through it all, eventually forging the beginnings of a genuine friendship. It was definitely not love at first sight from either Dark or Daroach, but I like to imagine it went something like this.

9. 👀 What do other characters think of their relationship? Do they approve or disapprove?

Ooh, what an excellent question! And, wouldn’t you know it, our sources over at Channel PPP seem to have gotten their hands on some extremely non-canon ✨ exclusive interviews ✨with some of the key players over in the KAU. Let’s hear what these fine folks have to say about everyone’s favorite Shadowy Partners:

Quite the mixed bag of responses, wouldn’t you say? A shame we couldn’t get more POVs from the Mirror side of things, but… well, this particular relationship isn't exactly common knowledge over there (and it seems like Dark - who won’t even entertain a simple hypothetical about it - would very much like to keep it that way).

(Also bonus SD panel without the slash below the cut because I put an unnecessary amount of effort into the shading and really like how it came out.)

Oof. So, this was mostly meant to be a chapter so you could all (hopefully) see the kind of story this is going to be! I think I'm getting a good hold on how I wanna do some things, and in the making of this first chapter, I definitely set many things in stone in regards of the plot.

I don't really know how fast the updates are, but I do hope to keep a better, regular rhythm to posting. I'm also trying not to push myself too much into working to not risk getting burnt out.

On another note, I've read every nice comment you've guys left! Thanks so mucy, they really mean a lot! ⸜(｡˃ ᵕ ˂ )⸝♡

Part four of my Kirby voice headcanons, featuring my voice headcanons for all of the Squeaks! My explanations for why I chose these voices are under the cut.

Bill Fagerbakke as Storo: Bill Fagerbakke is most well known for voicing Patrick Star in SpongeBob, and I feel like his voice is pretty fitting for strong, dopey, yet lovable characters in general, and that’s the vibe I’m going for with Storo.

Tom Kenny as Spinni: Tom Kenny is in a bunch of shows but is most famous for voicing SpongeBob. I didn’t use clips of his SpongeBob voice for Spinni in this video (the clips I used here are of him voicing Spyro the Dragon) but I feel like his regular non-SpongeBob voice suits Spinni well, and I could see Storo and Spinni having a SpongeBob and Patrick type of dynamic, so that’s why I went with this voice.

Billy West as Doc: Billy West is a very talented voice actor with a lot of range, and he’s been in a ton of shows, but he’s probably most famous for his work in Futurama since he voices three characters from the main cast (and does a good job making all of their voices sound distinct even though he voices all three of them) and he voices a bunch of iconic side characters in the show too. One of his main voice roles in Futurama is Professor Farnsworth, who’s a brilliant but somewhat insane scientist, and I feel like the voice that West uses for Farnsworth fits my characterization for Doc.

René Auberjonois as Daroach: René Auberjonois sadly passed away in 2019, but I really like his voice for Daroach so I still included him here. He’s most famous for playing Odo in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Odo is a security officer and not a master thief like Daroach (although something that Odo does have in common with Daroach is he’s also good at sneaking into/breaking into secure places lmao) but I feel like René’s voice is fitting for the whole “gentleman thief” vibe that Daroach has going on. I also wanted to select a more mature sounding voice for Daroach since I headcanon him as being a little older than I’ve seen most people headcanoning him/other people tend to select younger sounding voices for him. I didn’t want him to sound super old but also didn’t want him to sound super young either.

Day 11 of fusing randomly selected Kirby characters together- Coo + Doc!

Note: this is not intended as a fanchild or descendant oc. “Fusion” in this case is similar to fusion in Steven Universe, but can also be read as an entirely different character that merely borrows aspects from the original’s designs.

I AM THE EGGMAN, THAT'S WHAT I AM- No but for real the whole time I was drawing Min, E.G.G.M.A.N. was on loop in my head. it started with mixing Coo's eye markings into Doc's mustache, and it all went downhill from there. Or maybe uphill. Look at those little egg-drones! A fair few colors are mixed but there are two stolen colors, I made Min's glasses from Coo's eye color instead of mixing it with Doc's glasses color, and the eyes on the drones are taken from the lights on Doc's UFO. Oh well, not like you can stop me! What are you, a cop?

As an aside, if there's a Kirby character you don't see on the wheel but have strong opinions on, feel free to ask me to add them! I don't fear challenges, I dread them. Which means I do them anyway while moaning about it the whole while.
