The Politics Of Dricus Du Plessis Part 2

I did not write a preview or review of Dricus Du Plessis' last fight and I have since seen a few things that are more than concerning.

In the build-up to UFC 312's main event between Du Plessis and Sean Strickland, Dricus Du Plessis has publicly endorsed Donald Trump for the 2nd time, and the significance this time around is the political climate of country, and notably AfriForum's appeal to Trump to target the South Africa's political leaders.

This comes on the heels of Trump's intention to cut aid to South Africa, sighting concerns of treatment of white South Africans, in regards to land rights.

To be fair, I'm the fool here, the idea that I would assume that a white South African would represent South Africa, a majority black country, without trying to publicly embarrass the country, was an unrealistic expectation on my part.

There's a few things you need to understand here.

AfriForum is a group/organization run and established by white Afrikaner South Africans to influence our local politics. They are not a political party or a governmental organization, and it's important to note that.

So when their leadership publicly request the assistance of Donald Trump in "targeting" their local opposition, it is tantamount to treason, and it is also asking America to break with international law in order to help an organization with 0 seats in our local parliament.

This is an organization that has purposely pushed false narratives regarding the murders of white farmers, land expropriation acts that have been miscast as land grabs, and has now openly engaged in inviting a foreign government to interfere in South African affairs.

Where's the patriotism in that?

I am disappointed in Dricus Du Plessis, and I understand enough about white South Africans to know he likely doesn't care.

However, it speaks volumes that he would claim to be a "real African" while lampooning the talking points and political sentiment of a group that does not represent the majority of South Africans.

Another really unfair thing that Dricus has done, is to drag people he has publicly associated with and put them in to question.

For instance, by doing endorsements alongside noted Rugby players like Eben Etzebeth and Siya Kolisi, and the Springboks having worked so hard to avoid divisive political issues that could divide the team. How do they feel about being associated with this?

Trump has since signed an executive order that invites white South Africans to enjoy refugee status in the United States.

AfriForum obviously declined this offer during this past Saturday's press conferences, because why would you leave a place you're oppressed in?

All told, Dricus Du Plessis will be remembered as a South African athlete that failed to uphold the standards of the Springboks he fought so hard to be associated with.

Lacking the discipline to truly represent an entire country, and unable to avoid the low hanging fruits of racism, prejudice, misinformation and intellectual laziness.

It's a shame, that even with the support of an entire country behind him, he still couldn't help but want to associate himself with South Africa's most divisive political figures, and there's nothing Springbok about that.

Just got thru watching Du Plessis vs Adesanya.

Someone once said the modern middleweight division is just a bunch of guys who would get railroaded by a prime Chris Weidman and they are 100% correct. I apologize Chris, I called out crazy when you said you had the game to beat Izzy but no you were right. You're just old.

Watching Adesanya, one of the most gifted and skilled strikers, win rounds in a fight despite himself has to be one of the most frustrating things in MMA. He had a lot of great ideas. Attack the body. Punish DDP from range. Punish the blitzes. Use kicks to attack the body. But he just seemingly forgets that he's in an actual fight sometimes? The moving around and resetting. Trying to be this slick counter fighter. Just lead the dance. Take the initiative. Because if you're just going to give a roll of the dice ever few minutes and force yourself to be reactive, you're going to either tire yourself out or allow the other guy to just overwhelm you. And that's what happened here. Adesanya, in that fourth round, got tired and allowed an equally tired DDP to just run after him with big shots as Adesanya's footwork fell apart adn he was forced to turn tail and run. Eventually leading to being put down and submitted.
