A few days ago, Pirate Steven from DuckTalks/LorcanaTalks sent a DM notifying me that he and PostItPat had an upcoming card reveal for "Archazia's Island"! That excited me because I had a feeling that would mean DuckTales (2017) was returning to Lorcana, which was indeed the case with the Legendary Scrooge card earlier this week.

If you saw on the LorcanaTalks accounts, a certain card had been causing trouble, from stealing a card for Pirate Steven's portfolio to vandalizing Webby, Louie, and McDuck Manor's cards. Earlier today, Scrooge McDuck - Afficionado of Antiquities arrived to help, but he ended up getting surrounded by Glomgold, Magica, and the mysterious card. That alone strongly hinting at who in his rogues gallery was responsible: THE BEAGLE BOYS, specifically Bouncer and Big Time! Fortunately, they got apprehended in time for the reveals. That's right. Reveals. LorcanaTalks revealed not one, but TWO DuckTales cards! They shared that the one who helped apprehend the Beagle Boys is none other than… GIZMODUCK! The Hero of Duckburg is finally in the game after his Gizmosuit joined as an Item card in "Into the Inklands"! Lemme tell you, that bonus reveal was such a surprise, but definitely a welcome one!

Once upon a time, language meant something. It wasn’t just a way to talk, it was a way to think. A way to reason. A way to build. But now? It’s circling the drain. Gutted. Beaten senseless. Left to twitch in the gutter while "fuck" does all the heavy lifting.

Yeah. Fuck.

A word that used to be a bullet—sharp, precise, strategic—now a crutch, a filler, a cheap trick. A way to bypass actual thought, actual articulation. A shortcut to saying nothing.

And it ain’t just “fuck.” It’s all of it. Every goddamned word that’s been pulped down to the easiest, laziest, cheapest version of itself, reduced to abbreviations, emojis, reaction GIFs, hot takes, drive-by opinions tossed into the void, a churn, an algorithmic vortex where nothing lingers, nothing sticks. A paragraph is too much. A sentence is pushing it. A single word will do. A grunt. An exclamation. A guttural noise, a meme, a like, a retweet, a fire emoji. The degradation of communication. Until we’re just making caveman noises at each other across a digital abyss, while corporations harvest the data of our dwindling attention spans.

In 1984 when Orwell spoke about the disintegration and purposeful destruction of language, he described the sound of quacking conversations as ducktalk...Today our conversatioons don't sound as much like duck talk as they do fucktalk.

Oh and in case you missed it, I'm referring to 1984 a book not actual year. If I was referring to 1984 the year I wouldn't have bothered with the italic 1984 but of course, y'all know that dontcha.

And then there’s the media.

The grand amplifier of the vulgar, the shallow, the outrageously hyperbolic. The biggest, baddest, loudest pusher man for the collapse of articulation. And don’t think for a second it wasn’t a choice.The media didn’t stumble into sensationalism like a frat boy falling into a ditch five minutes after Hell Nigh. It sprinted there. Full speed. Wide-eyed. Arms flailing. Why? Because it pays. Because outrage sells. Because a well-crafted, thoughtful discussion on foreign policy is worth less than a ten-second clip of a politician fumbling a word and freezing like McConnell caught in the head lights . What gets traction? Screaming heads. Red-faced fury. BREAKING NEWS banners that never stop breaking. An endless, sweaty carousel of sound bites, slogans, memes, and manufactured rage cycles.

The days of Walter Cronkite? Long gone. The age of careful analysis? Buried. We’re living in the era of the hot take, where the only thing that matters is who yells loudest and who gets clipped, shared, memed, and turned into tomorrow’s viral outrage.And that? That’s where populism sinks its teeth in.

Because what is MAGA if not the apotheosis of linguistic degradation, the masterclass in anti-thought, the Olympic gold medalist in stripping language down to its rawest, basest, most brain-frozen form? MAGA isn’t only a political movement—it’s a marketing campaign. A fury-fueled spectacle of bumper-sticker nationalism that doesn’t need facts, doesn’t need reason, doesn’t need complexity because it has caps lock and exclamation points and five-word chants screamed through a megaphone at 100 dog whistle decibels.It’s a world where slogans replace solutions, where complex problems get boiled down to a two-word battle cry, where the ability to think critically is sacrificed at the altar of emotional manipulation.

MAGA doesn’t need intelligent debate. It doesn’t even need basic logic. It just needs a villain, a target, an enemy—someone to blame. Mexicans. Immigrants. The "woke mob." The "elites." Scientists. Journalists. Intellectuals. Teachers. Take your pick. The scapegoat shifts, but the formula never changes: It’s not about policy. It’s about pantomime. It’s about making the masses feel like warriors in a culture war that exists mostly in their own heads, a reality show presidency where insight is irrelevant as long as the crowd is entertained. Why read when we can chant? Why research when we can rage? Why analyze when we can just "clown the libs" and call it a day?

MAGA is what happens when a civilization forgets how to process reality.And it thrives because it’s easy. Easy to understand. Easy to repeat. Easy to package and sell. A fast-food fascism, where democracy is too complicated, so let’s just slap TRUMP 2024 on a flag and pretend governance is a goddamn tailgate party.

Easy as fuck

And then came COVID.

It didn’t just kill millions. It didn’t just shut down schools, crush economies, turn cities into ghost towns.It ripped the last threads of coherence out of public discourse.

Every conversation turned into a battleground. Masks or no masks. Vaccine or no vaccine. Freedom or tyranny. The loudest, dumbest takes rising to the top, while experts got drowned out by Twitter conspiracy theorists, YouTube grifters, and Facebook uncles who suddenly thought they were epidemiologists. Science lost. Logic lost. Thoughtfulness lost. And the media? They fucking loved it.Because nothing sells better than fear, fury, and uncertainty. They pumped out death counts like sports scores. They ran conflicting headlines on the same day. They fed both sides, making sure that no matter what you believed, you stayed locked in, furious, engaged, sharing, clicking, consuming. And when the dust settled, when the world started reopening? We weren’t the same.

We forgot how to talk to each other. The silences got longer. The conversations got shorter. The divides got deeper.

We didn’t come back smarter, wiser, more compassionate. We came back angrier, dumber, and more exhausted.

And language shrunk again because this is where it’s all leading, isn’t it? The slow-motion train wreck of articulation. The compression of thought down to its most primal, guttural form. The dumbing down of a world that once crafted sentences like cathedrals into a world where people just grunt and hit "like." It’s the internet turning human expression into a zoo exhibit of outrage and approval. It’s entire arguments waged through GIFs and reaction emojis, because who has time to actually put a thought into words when we can just fire off a skull emoji 💀 and call it a rebuttal?It’s the erosion of complexity, the suffocation of nuance, the incredible shrinking vocabulary of a species that once wrote sonnets and now communicates in all caps.

And if you think this is just an accident, just how things turned out, just a natural progression of technology, then congratulations. The disintegration machine has done its job.

Because the truth is: This isn’t just happening. It’s being done to us.

The language shrinks. The thought shrinks. The history shrinks. The memory shrinks.

And when all of that shrinks enough?

We don’t even notice what’s been taken from us.
