Okay so I was rewatching the Earthspark S2 episodes about the chaos Terrans for my fanfic (Becoming Family) and I specifically noticed the protoform designs

With Aftermath, we don’t get a good look at first since it’s all closeup with heavy lighting or just really obscured

I thought we just didn’t get a good look at all, HOWEVER! There is a moment right before the truck hits him where we can see his protoform design mostly in full

It isn’t a recolour or anything, it seems to be a totally original protoform design. I honestly didn’t expect them to put the effort in, but it’s something I like a lot!

Now, we get a much better look at Spitfire overall since we see her better and she isn’t so obscured

She’s basically a recolour of Twitch’s protoform but with some more edges, which is fine since her main design is a recolour anyways. Might as well imply an explanation for why they look so similar AND save money on making a brand new 3D model that will be gone in less than a minute. (Also it seems Spitfire’s eyes look different between these screenshots, going from pure magenta to magenta sclara with yellow iris, but it’s mostly a nitpick since I didn’t even notice the first few times I saw this scene lol)

I have a few other observations too:

It seems their colours are inverted from the season 1 protoform designs we see, with dark plating, red biolights, and magenta/red optics. They also have more spikes and sharp edges on them rather than smoother round shapes. Good way to visually imply how they’re “corrupted” Terrans

The biolights they have seem to stop glowing very quickly, since Aftermath’s seem to fade and Spitfire’s completely fade away as she’s falling. Lore detail, or inconsistent animation? You decide!

While later we see their emberstone shards in their chests, their protoform seems to not have them visible at all.

Anyways, just wanted to share in case anyone else was curious :)

I feel like people assume all s2 haters as Starscream babyfiers when in reality s2 was bad for..a multitude of reasons.

The entire show was built off the idea that, a badge does not define you, your actions as a your own person define you and you can always change that. It’s reinforced multiple times in s1, flat out said in the shows art book, only to be thrown out in the first 5 minutes of s2. Watering it down to “decepticon betray us bc ummm idk decepticons lmao” instead of creating an actual reason there’s a rift now.

Only ONE episode actually foreshadowed terratronus, and for an event of such a size and importance it felt rushed and thrown in last minute. Terratronus was handled poorly, Starscream despite being the main villain didn’t really do ANYTHING until the last episode, which seemed really blown out of proportion instead of leading up to the level of violence and chaos he unleashed.

mandroid and GHOST got a entire seasons worth of hinting to the horribleness, until they just got worse and worse and violent to the very TOP of their awful morality. When Starscream just jumped from 20 to 100 IMMEDIATELY.

The chaos Terrans were never expanded upon despite it being an excellent way to learn more about the emberstone and Terrans in general. Worldbuild. Only for them to be reduced to lackey’s and then just murdered and that’s that. 

Cyber syncing is purely a toy advertisement that they didn’t put any actual thought into so it feels messy, unclear, and confusing. Instead of expanding on it the shows genuinely just like “fuck you they can do this now lmao umm buy our cyber sync toys” instead of making actual lore for it. It’s like the sad part of combining 😭 which could’ve easily been inserted (as combiners need a HEAVY bond, trust, and care! That sums up the malto family dynamic entirely!) 

We see absolutely no consequences of mandroid, GHOST, or the sharkticons. Yes we see them cleaning out the GHOST base, but are we forgetting mandroid literally genocided the cybertronian race?? GHOST revealed themselves as a threat? The Terrans were perceived as decepticons and evil for simply emerging around the same time? That would’ve realistically caused a LOT of issue and conflict, it is not something easily resolved, yet the show acts like it never happened at all. Everything built up from s1 for s2 to profit off of is quickly swept under the rug, leaving it messy, and rushed, again.

S2 doesn’t suck because Starscream didn’t turn into some pretty princess hand holder, it sucked because Hasbro did the Hasbro thing and forced the team to cut corners and produce rushed slop. I hate hate HATE watching people paint s2 dislikers as Starscream infantilizers ENTIRELY when s2 has so many reasons behind disliking it 😭

EARTHSPARK S2 SPOILERS AHEAD

Even though season 2 wasn't that great in my opinion, we still got one of the best characters in earthspark

TERRATRONUS

Information that we can extract from those ≈20 mins max that she's on screen (not counting character traits when Starscream is in control, because, well it's Starscream, not her):

-she's mighty

-she's responsible

-she's lloyal

-she's calm and gentle

-she's good with kids

-she's understanding

-she's biiiiiiiiig

If we do not get any more Terratronus content next season

I am rioting

I need her

She can carry the weight of any show

Like...I know the chances of seeing any prime besides Optimus on screen are diminishing with each episode and I am afraid of another Squidward Prime, but can we at least have Terratronus? Please?

Guys I may be onto nothing but I have a teensy tiny earthspark theory…

So we all know how starscreams character almost completely changed in season 2. His motivations, his personality, attitude, ect. But I think that maybe starscream isn’t actually starscream, like maybe he’s being controlled or is someone else in disguise.

I literally have 0 proof other than the fact yk, starscream is just different. I’m just trying to find some kind of rational reason as to why starscream is the way he is now 😭

But if I am right, and we find out in fall that he got locked away/taken over mlp canterlot wedding style, then I’m actually a genius all of y’all owe me $5

Draft for "Firsts to Grow Up: Book Two - Unity"

1 – Happy Birthdays: Celebrations

The Malto Terrans have been training for months to prepare themselves to travel the globe. Before the day of departure, the family and town celebrate Twitch & Thrash’s first birthday. But the party is being targeted by a mysterious new Terran who follows the name Meridian.

2 – Happy Birthdays: Farewells

Suspecting Meridian is well and active again, Hashtag changes her mind about leaving Witwicky. She gets unexpected help from Skyfire, meanwhile her siblings meet their travel guides.

3 – Kindle & Ember of Sunlight

Twitch flies to Peru with Powerglide, an Autobot who is on the fence in joining G.H.O.S.T for years. They meet a tribe who cares for twin Terrans name Kindle and Ember with the help of Slingshot – who supposedly to have died in the war.

4 – Kite Flying

Nightshade and Bumblebee travel to the freezing deserts of Mongolia. The Terran who resides there has trouble speaking after nearly getting taken by “monsters” if it were not for Clobber, a Decepticon outcast.

5 – Icy Shields & Ripples

Jawbreaker braves a vicious snowstorm to confront the ram Terran who had attacked their G.H.O.S.T guide and stole Thrash’s shield.

6 – The Math on Spitting Fire

Back home in Witwicky, Hashtag messes around with Twitch’s modified drone only for it to be scanned as an alt-mode for the new Meridian Terran. Meridian does not drink enough coffee to handle the mess caused by ... his Terrans. Ugh!

7 – Leaflets

Agent Bagheri faces familiar troubles with her new station when a man-sized leaf mantis kept playing with the computers. Surprisingly, the troubles point a lead to a strange object hiding on the Earth’s orbit.

8 – Hiding Plainly

While trying to convince Aftermath and Spitfire to leave Meridian, Hashtag and Mo stumble upon a strange creature lingering at the destroyed Emberstone cave. Terratronus feels threatened by it.

9 – Irony of the Creator: The First Terrans

The Terrans gather at Terratronus’ Core and learn about the first Terrans born thousands of years ago that was wiped out by their distant “cousins”, the Quintessons.

10 – Irony of the Creator: Quintesson

Conflicted over Terratronus’ wish, the Terrans split into two sides: one wants to keep the Emberstones intact while the other respects Terratronus’ wish to destroy them. Meridian and his Terrans cease the opportunity to steal the relics. Unbeknownst to the three, they are being observed...

11 – Conjoining, in Meaning & Literally

Twitch faces a reflection of herself through Kindle after Ember’s injury, Thrash humbles Ice Mirror’s arrogance, Hashtag and Nightshade help Kites with her speech, and Jawbreaker accidentally unleashed a new ability on Aftermath. Spitfire wished she could drink alcohol, driving Megatron crazy.

Finally started earthspark s2 and HUH???

it was just strange tbh. Everything was moving SO quickly. It felt like when the waiter tries to take your plate away before you're done eating.

Can we not take ONE SECOND to address the quintesson executioner??? Or fucking Fairmaestro??? Like how tf did he get that tech? And what was Cosmos doing there? He's literally not been mentioned again yet. (I'm on ep 7).

It's just back to back fight scenes with no connecting dialogue. I would KILL for them to just sit down and have a damn conversation.

It also feels like they've set twitch, thrash, Robby and mo up as the A team and the other terrans as the B team. They're all related guys!!!

They've also really cut the screen time for characters I actually wanna see. Like I kinda doubt the terrans and humans are the main draw for people here.

THE CRUSH SUB PLOT TOO!?!? disgusting. Hate it.

There were some solid gags though I'll give them that and they've seemed to hit their stride later on. The two part about twitch and spitfire was solid, just wish it's been sooner.

Started watching Earthspark S2 last night! Will probably do a thoughts post like with my IDW collection reading updates :3

I'm pretty much done with it already, I'm on episode 8 😂 I was super curious to see who would appear okay!! (Also Swindle was on the 4th episodes thumbnail so I had to watch until then at least... 🫣 I'm a simple person, I see Swindle, I watch lol)

Im gonna say it - Earthspark Shockwave is pretty cool, especially since he’s shown to be one of the few Decepticons willing to object to Starscream’s crazy plan in the end (and even seemingly letting the Terrans get away with the Emberstone). Whether he becomes a new baddie or a strange ally, I’m so excited!!

(Also if he becomes an actual good guy I’m hoping they address the racism he showed last season. At least as a throw away line as “oh I was disoriented, I didn’t mean it.” It would be kinda lame but it would be something. But I’m just doing off the wall speculation lol)

More thoughts below

Starscream was pretty in character I’d say!! Just because he’s sympathetic doesn’t mean he’s a good guy. As shown, he believes in looking out for himself first and was willing to even throw away his relationship with Hashtag. If I were to speculate, he probably thought “she got herself into this mess by opposing me” since he did point out that she should “take care of herself”. It’s tragic, but… abuse survivors can sometimes become abusers themselves. And Starscream couldn’t shake old ambitions and megalomania, even after someone showed him kindness.

Also the Chaos Emberstone was low key driving him mad anyways lol

(I’m just trying to explain why I don’t mind this angle in the series, I get why some people are kinda upset since they were hoping for a more sympathetic screamer. Still though, someone can have been hurt or did bad things but still be a bad person.)

I also really really hope we can see Spitfire and Aftermath again!! Maybe they’re resurrected, since Robby and Mo have the power of Quintus prime, and they go… “why am I not angry all the time”. Before going off and doing their own thing, maybe joining back up with the Decepticons or something. Idk, I just hope they aren’t confined to a tragically short existence since yeah they weren’t good… but did they really deserve that? I need to make a chaos Terrans post lol

Kaaaahhh!! *falls & eats the curb and drops all of my chaos Terran doodles.* BEFORE YOU SAY ANYTHING I KNOW CARS ISN’T DREAMWORKS!! I already got erm actually-ed. Spitfire and Am my poor doomed kids.

For both their designs I took a lil spin on it. For Am this the way I like to draw him. He acts gross so now he can look gross. He also doesn’t look baby in the show so meh, No further comments.

For Spitfire I gave her features that make look stronger and meaner even tho she’s mostly supposed to look just like Twitch. To me there is no point in drawing her just like twitch because the evil twin thing can be ruled out because they are completely different colors and they also went with the body swap thing. So I think making her look stockier and emo is more fun. I should draw a side-by-side comparison sometime.

Spoiler S2 rant* I get a little bit into delulu land so bear with me.

Jokes aside. I liked the chaos Terrans and the way they were handled wasn’t right. I hope they are able to make a comeback In the future and get redeemed because they deserve it. I feel really bad for them. It’s like they were labeled as Chaos and not to be trusted from the beginning I don’t think anyone truly understood them. I get that the chaos Terrans had wronged the Malto’s multiple times from the start but I think the way they went about handling them was so laxed. They just let the decepticons have them so they could be further influenced into the wrong path. It’s like they were doomed from the start.

After all they were just kids. I’ve been labeled as the bad, dumb, asshole kid before. Most of my school days I was in special ED and I was also pretty high energy too. So I can relate, if you are already labeled as bad or dumb why try to be anything else? Or trying to be cool and hanging around the wrong crowd just to be taken advantage of in the end.

They weren’t completely chaos either. They listened to the Decepticons. Following orders till the very end, if they were chaotic like their name implying would they just not listen to anyone and do whatever they wanted without any care of anyone else? Here’s what I think. The chaos Terrans (mostly Spitfire.) we’re trying to impress what they perceived as the cooler badder bots. That’s some kid shit, most kids try to get in with the group of cool kids. Why not stay with the Maltos? Cause that’s not cool to them. Do you want to hang out with the teachers pet or steal and break shit.

In defense of Aftermath. He’s capable of playing nice, he’s not evil. Him and Jb had a relatively good day with each other. He didn’t out right attack on sight. I think he took the water cause he didn’t want to seem like a looser in his heavily flawed mindset. Am is more of an impediment of Chaos, he just smashes and breaks shit cause he can. Honestly I think if you him just take him to a rage room he’d be fine.

In defense of Spitfire (who is a wayy more complicated case.) She was literally born that morning how was she supposed to know not hurting humans was an autobot rule. I think deep down she was jealous of Twitch’s family and opportunities. She has a competitive spirit and I think she wanted that mission to impress the bigger bots (even if she was rude to them.) when she was in Twitch’s body and said things like Chaos Terrans are bad and not to be trusted I wound if she was projecting what she thought they were thinking about her already. When she was cast out and went with the decepticons was they don’t like me and they don’t like you either so I’ll just hang with you guys. With that being said she’s naive too (it’s fine BECAUSE SHES A KID.) see the way starscream tells her good job or touches her shoulder, she wants his approval and to make him just like all kids with their parents. And then when she is ultimately betrayed, she’s a deer in headlights, shocked and afraid, probably realizing that she provided the weapon needed to killer her and her brother. She looked up to Starscream. Showing her fear and shock by being betrayed like that really showed us that Spitfire is so much more than just a bad guy. It really made me sad when she was screaming and saying no, god she needed help.

None of the chaos Terrans had gotten the opportunity to really learn or get to find something they like to do. The other Terrans had plenty of time to think about an alt mode, learn lessons get nurtured and cared for. The chaos Terrans had to get their alt modes immediately both out of necessity. Most of the time Am was just wandering around bored, he wasn’t being nurtured or taught anything. The cons didn’t care about them at all, neither did the autobots or Maltos that much. 

Saying Chaos Terrans are going to chaos or decepticons are gonna do what they do. Is super incorrect. It’s just labeling and not expecting anything more from these individuals which goes against the entire point of season one.

HOLY CRAP IF YOU READ ALL THIS. Thanks for coming to my Ted talk. Hopefully Some of this made sense.

I know it might never happen because of the time skip or other factors, but one of things I'd like to see in S2 is the Terrans and kids getting a wake up call about their blind optimism towards the Cons.

Preferably their parents tell them that Cons are as monstrous as they're described to be because they witnessed what they've done during the war & humanity's fear towards Cybertronians are not baseless. If not, Tarantulas to Nightshade if the latter assumes every defector is like the former.
