Rekill, a 1970's novel by Ian Kennedy Martin. If the name sounds familiar it's likely as he was the creator of The Sweeney and worked on many other popular UK TV shows of the 60's and 70's such as Redcap and The Onedin Line. His older brother was Troy Kennedy Martin whose screenwriting credits included Z Cars, The Italian Job, Kelly's Heroes and Edge of Darkness. Not bad.

Thoughts on Edge of Darkness (1943)

Just watched Edge of Darkness, a really entertaining WWII movie with Errol Flynn and Ann Sheridan as a badass couple who kill Nazis and fight to free their Norwegian fishing village from German occupation. Like Casablanca, it’s proof that wartime propaganda need not be of historical interest only. It’s super well-paced, with some really exciting sequences of suspense and action. The ending is freaking awesome too-- I have to wonder if Tarantino’s seen this and possibly used some of it as inspiration for Inglorious Basterds.

Immer noch Ankommen. In vieler Hinsicht immer noch halb im Morgen. Nacht vor der Haustür, ein müder Blick tastet im Schwarz nach den Höhenlinien der Berge und rutscht haltlos ab. Das Dunkel trägt den Klang verschiedener Wasser und das Rascheln all jener, denen das Unterholz gehört. Dieser Tag blieb unnahbare Ferne, eine Aneinanderreihung von Punkten und Themen, die nachzulesen man gewillt war und die sich jetzt mit den Stunden im Vergangenen, Vergessenen auflösen. Kurzes Sinnieren darüber, ob die Zeit kürzer oder schneller wird oder nur in falschen Denkmustern verebbt, die altern lassen, ohne Antworten zu finden. Aber vielleicht spielt es keine große Rolle, wenn die Bilder, die sich in die Erinnerung schreiben, nur weit genug tragen. Gegenüber schließen die letzten Jalousien. Licht zieht sich zurück, die Augenlider des Abends sind schmal. Wieder spät genug.
