We all struggle with writing, especially in academic contexts. This particular method proved immensely beneficial in my journey of crafting my MPhil thesis, offering invaluable assistance. It provided the essential support needed to overcome the challenges inherent in academic writing.

Shitty First Draft Concept: The concept of the “shitty first draft,” a writing technique coined by Anne Lamott in her book “Bird by Bird” (1994). It emphasizes the importance of writing a rough first draft without worrying about quality.

Writing Process: The technique involves letting ideas flow freely onto paper, knowing it can be shaped later. This approach helps writers overcome the fear of starting and the pressure of creating a perfect first draft.

Benefits: By writing a “shitty first draft,” writers can get their thoughts out and familiarize themselves with the scope of their work. This makes subsequent editing steps easier and more effective.

everyone's either in love with bakugou or wants to be him. he always has people bombarding him with questions about his quirk or trying to get close to him. he doesnt mind the attention. bakugou carries a large amount of pride that comes along with his popularity. he's worshipped, always walking the halls with people following him.

but then theres you. a silent girl in most of his classes. you keep to yourself in your own little world for the most part with very few close friends. your seat is in front of bakugou in all of your shared lectures, and you never bothered him, not once. truth be told, he never really thought about you until a specific night.

slamming his friend's car door shut, bakugou grumbles, "you idiots." he wasted yet another good night for studying. he threw it away by partying with people he didn't even find interesting. gosh, it's already 10:30. he wouldn't be able to stay awake. but he can't just go to sleep! nono, exams are too close. he needs glue all of the information he can into his brain. kirishima had recommended getting a study buddy-- who the hell would want to actually study with bakugou?? the girls would be distracted by his "huge muscles" and "unique hair" while any guys would be begging to see his quirk in action.

fuck this! katsuki doesn't need anyones help.

that confident thought bubble changes as he walks up the stairs to the dormitories. he remembers that quiet dork in most of his classes.. you seem pretty normal for the most part. a bit of a nerd too, so he wouldn't be worried about you having the wrong shit written down. with an ashamed grunt, he decides to find your dorm.

you munch on freshly baked chocolate chip cookies, going over notes you'd gotten from yesterday's lecture. you tiredly lean back against your chair in a tiny tank top and shorts with your hair up in a claw clip. you're slightly bopping your head to the quiet music playing in the background when you hear heavy thuds of someone walking towards your room. you perk up when said person knocks on your door softly. you happily smile, thinking maybe one of your friends are stopping by. excited you made so many cookies, you hurry to the door and swing it open.

with his hands dug into his pockets and drained frown, the katsuki bakugou stands at your door.. odd. "oh!" you squealed, your hand covering your mouth. "sorry, just-- wasn't expecting you." you nervously rub your arm, leaning against the door frame.

he lazily raises an eyebrow in curiosity. "you expectin' someone?"

you shake your head. "nope.." you mutter with an awkward smile. bakugou eyes you up and down quickly, quietly clearing his throat at the small amount of clothing adorning your body. you bite your lip embarrassedly while averting your gaze. "you wanna come in?" you chirp, stepping to the side. he lets out a soft hum of confirmation, taking big strides into your dorm before you shut the door behind him. he walks over to your desk to observe your neatly written notes. "i need someone to study with-- you aren't stupid or anythin' right?" he cocks a brow, turning his head to look at you.

you hum lightly. "mm no, i dont think so.."

the scruffy boy plops down in your heart-shaped chair, flipping through the pages you had spent such precious time working on. you fiddle with your fingers shyly, biting the inside of your cheek as you watch bakugou. "..do you want a cookie?" you politely ask, pointing towards the plate on your desk, walking towards him. his head turned to where your finger was pointing.

his eyes flicker to the plate, hesitantly taking a freshly baked chocolate chip cookie and biting into it. it was soft and chewy-- and warm. his crimson eyes brighten a little, just a little. "'s not bad. would be better with coffee." he stares at the bitten cookie, cupping his other under the treat, careful not to make a mess. your bubbly self returns, offering a sweet smile. "coffee coming up!"

that day was the first of many of you and katsuki spending time together. you were never around people too often, yet alone someone as popular and liked as bakugou. and as for him, he thought you were decently likeable. you made him feel good about himself without talking about his quirk or giant pecs. you also never asked if he had a girlfriend or if he was free next friday night. you were just you.

you had talked more than he anticipated. that night, bakugou found himself quiet while you blabbed about whatever came into your head, and he didn't mind it at all. even after that study session and hanging out numerous times, you're still that one quiet nerd in the classroom. only he gets to see the chatty side of you-- and he likes that. makes him feel special.

Low-key I’m obsessed with wulian’s dynamic. Like the infamous White Clothed Calamity and this ghost soldier who trails along with him. They’re like boss & henchman. Someone’s bothering them and Wuming’s like “I can kill that guy for you” and Xie Lian is considering it. I think Xie Lian would leave him out in the rain and he would just stand there like a sad puppy. He’s like “Can I try rizzing you up?” And Xie Lian just goes “No.�� I fear Wuming’s freak would’ve even unsettled Xie Lian or he would’ve found it funny. Wuming’s like a trained dog who will attack on command and BITE. Wuming said “I am not fixing this man but I will jump down with him.” They probably would’ve been incredibly toxic as a couple and the sex would have made it worse but it would’ve been entertaining to watch. There’s actually something really sad about how much Xie Lian hated himself at this point and how he cannot accept someone being there for him simply for him. And Wuming having unconditional love but also no confidence in himself, like here I think is where he thought himself as unworthy or lowly the most. Unstoppable self-hatred vs immovable love and devotion. I think about how perhaps Wuming had maybe an actual fear of being dispersed or tossed away BY Xie Lian and while he would’ve accepted it, he does not want that possibility. So he shows he’s powerful enough to stand by Xie Lian’s side. But he’ll just hang his head or let himself get choked when Xie Lian gets angry at him. I think Bai Wuxiang must have lost his mind when he first saw Wuming.

Getting stuck into the intricacies of Edwin’s gender by designing some drag looks for him, obvi inspired by the magnificent Barbara Lasagna. (40s and 20s dress respectively!) I imagine that the two names would be Edwin’s idea and Charles’ more goofy suggestion; a play on the Paine/Payne homophone and, well. A 16 year olds sense of humour in the midst of having a crisis. I think Edith would perform with an instrument like the violin or piano!

TGCF Revised Edition Book 1 is now live!

Hey friends!! The Book 1 master document is now compiled and available to read on my website. Footnotes have been redone and some formatting has been fixed, as well as some further polishing of the translation in the earlier chapters.

The individual chapter releases are also still available, in case anyone wants to find a specific chapter. They have also all been edited accordingly, so there is no difference between them and the master document.

To delete does not mean that there's no existing copy. I save copies of everything. It means you remove it because it doesn't fit for that story. It may, however, fit for a different story. Or it can be disassembled and used in multiple works.

Ranking mxtx couples by whether or not I think they'd be good parents

Wangxian: tried and tested good dads. I wish them luck with the whole “trying to get wwx pregnant” thing 

They have some shit to work through, but after that I think they'd be fine (A)-

Ling Wen/ Bai Jin: if we're just going off the original publication, I would put them in a much lower tier, but since the revised edition added that thing about them raising orphans together and said orphans turning out alright before unfortunate circumstances, I'm putting them up here. I think they'll be alright once they work through the miscommunication

Xiao Xingchen/ Song Lan: They obviously have a lot of trauma they're working through, but I'd like to think they and A-Qing will be a loving family in the long run 

One of them would be a good parent, the other wouldn't be a bad parent (B)-

Jiang Yanli/ Jin Zixuan: there's no canon reason for me putting them this low. Jin Zixuan just gives off a mediocre parent vibe to me (and we all know Jiang Yanli is the best)

Yushipei: Yushi Huang has good mom energy, and Pei Ming has been shown to be a not terrible mentor. I'd want the misogyny fully beaten out of him with a mace before I'd think he should have kids of his own though 

Lang Qianqiu/ Little Guy: at the very least, they're making sure Guzi is fed, clothed, washed, vaccinated, and has access to education. Neither of them know what they're doing, but I think Little Guy is good at faking it. I wish them luck in their upcoming custody battle  

You know what, surprise me/ I'll hear you out (C)-

Bingqiu: My first instinct is “no, do not bring kids into this,” but then I remembered tharnShen Qingqiu has a surprisingly decent track record? Like, Ning Yingying and Ming Fan both turned out a lot more health than they did in the original novel, and though I wouldn't call him in a good place, Binghe is doing a lot better than Bingge. The wild card for me here is Luo Binghe because I have no idea how he'd be with kids

Quanyin: Yin Yu had a decent track record until he was pushed into snapping. I think rn, he needs a couple centuries of being a babygirl before he's ready to parent again. No idea how Quan Yizhen would do though 

Born to “dual income, no kids, rich uncles/aunts” (D)-

Fengqing: Feng Xin is canonically a bad dad. I know he's working on it, but it is what it is. Mu Qing has been shown to be decent with kids, but I think he’d have a melt down if he had to deal with the mess constantly. 

Hualian: I mean, Xie Lian has raised three kids at this point and one of them became a god, another became state preceptor and then sorta complicit in a genocide, and one became god AND committed genocide + he babysat a ghost king for months and didn't even realize that's what he was because it was a miracle if he remembered to feed him… so, a mixed bag. Hua Cheng may be schrodinger’s child hater, but I'm intrigued by the idea of him raising kids just because I want to know how his own childhood would influence his parenting abilities. They should probably just stick to babysitting for now though 

Mingling: Liu Mingyan is too busy writing gay porn to be dealing with kids, and I just can't imagine Sha Hualing as a mom

Please don't bring a kid into this mess (F)-

Beefleaf: Do I need to explain this one?

Mobeishang: Shang Qinghua should not be put in any position where he has to teach someone about consent (Binghe’s early attempts at flirting being a prime example of why that's a bad idea). I also think Mobei Jun is still working on the whole “why hitting people is not cool” thing. 

QiJiu: I think the original timeline is a prime example of how they're just not in a place to be raising kids 

Jun Wu/ Mei Nianqing: Xie Lian would like a refund on his adopted father figures. They had one kid and he only made it to age 20 because he was cursed to not die

Writing Notes: Revising vs. Editing

Revising and editing are usually grouped together.

When you’re making changes to a rough draft, you typically revise and edit it.

However, notice that you revise and edit it.

The two words are different tasks and focus on different aspects of writing:

Revising

Focuses on how effectively writing responds to a prompt and how clearly the supporting ideas develop a main idea

Considers writing at the content level

Usually done during the early stages of drafting — more revisions lead to more drafts

Considers the written work as a whole

Clarifies thoughts and ideas

Considers aspects of writing such as tone and language

Sometimes involves adding new ideas, elaborating on current ideas, re-arranging the organization of ideas, or condensing ideas

Ensures that writing is thorough and ideas are developed and well supported

Considers what ideas belong or do not belong to ensure focused writing

Editing

Considers mechanical and grammatical aspects of writing

Usually done during final read throughs, right before submission

Considers punctuation (i.e., commas, periods, question marks, semicolons, etc.)

Looks at sentence structures

Checks for correct spelling

Reads at the sentence-level — does not consider what the sentence says, but how it is written

Involves correction of typos and other mistakes

Focuses on surface-level changes

Does not consider context, content, or the big picture
