Arnold didn't finish his job, and now he knows too much.

The threat of being tracked and run over by a crazy business man will probably lead him to living in MCM for the time being.

And for plot purposes, Arnold doesn't get dragged out by the cops because William Afton is also doing not-so-legal activities???

I guess in conclusion, this badly put-together AU idea would probably be about Fazbear Entertainment desperately shuffling around trying to get Arnold and the assets out of that godforsaken manor by using their own men to bust inside, (Home Alone style) and the robots "take care" of the intruders in return (also Home Alone style but I guess more brutal).

Also the dispatcher is gonna be some kind of whiny negotiator that Arnold can't mute for some reason. Because why not.

Charles has always left Edwin little notes slipped between the pages of his favorite books, in his science equipment, places he knows Edwin loves. Just silly things—post its that say “hi Edwin :)”. doodles of Edwin with his nose stuck in a book. reminders to stock up on wolfsbane. but.

Then, post canon, Edwin tentatively starts dating people. And it’s ridiculous, because Edwin’s right there, all the time, but Charles..misses him a bit. And his heads a mess, and he can’t sort out what the hell he’s feeling most of the time, and whenever he tries to say any of it out loud it comes out rubbish.

So. He writes down some of the shit he can’t say right, and because he’s a coward, hides them so he doesn’t have to see Edwin’s face when he reads them.

then Edwin starts writing back.

Neat lilac blue little envelopes appear in Charles coat pockets. In his bag. Once, in his shoe? Some nights, Edwin will clear his throat and mention something from a letter, offhand, like they’re just picking up conversation, and Charles can pretend they are. That they always have talked about the basement, the belt, the nameless fear that chokes him every time Edwin walks out the door with someone else on his arm.

Sometimes he can’t. The words get stuck in his throat. Edwin’s not mad, he’s maddeningly, stubbornly kind about it, which is worse.

Some nights they trade. A secret for a secret. Charles learns about the novels Edwin used to hide under his mattress, about all the lonely years before Charles got there. About Simon.

Meanwhile, Edwin is losing his mind, because Charles has accidentally stumbled onto what was a fucking courting ritual in his time. Love letters were something engaged couples treasured for years, kept and reread over and over. (Edwin does. keep them in a special box, will take one out and trace the words, tuck it in his breast pocket for courage).

Edwin would rather have to reattach a limb again than lose Charles trust, all the dark and beautiful things he shares with Edwin only. He knows—knows Charles doesn’t mean to make him fall more in love with him.

I'm surprised that there isn't more Addams family/Dead Boy Detectives.

Not just the character parallels/Aus.

You can't tell me that the Addams hear Edwin introduce himself and don't go "Payne? Well we must be related" and then treating him as treasured family (whether he is actually related or not).

And that before they discover he's a ghost and become even more delighted.

Edwin is of course highly confused and wary but that doesn't stop him from answering all Wednesday's questions on the occult as Charles teaches Pugsley all he knows about explosives. With Morticia and Gomez reminisce on their moments as young love in the background.

I found a bunch of snippets I wrote that I'm unlikely to put into any actual fics so now I'm going to share them here out of context.

“I finished one you know. Took a while, but I did it.”

“What’s this now?”

“I finished reading one of your dusty, Greek books. It was in English, but I read the thing cover to cover. Honest. It was pretty good actually. It reminded me of us in the end.”

Edwin was almost afraid what Greek tragedy Charles was comparing them to now, but he looked so proud for having finished it, so Edwin couldn’t help but ask, “Which one was that then?”

“The Odyssey.”

Admittedly that wasn’t what Edwin had expected, and as far as Greek epics went it wasn’t the easiest to get through.

“I guess they made a musical of it? Crystal was playing it for me, and the songs sounded pretty cool, so I thought I’d give the book a go. Gotta admit the musical was easier to follow. Words I never thought I’d say.”

“You said it reminded you of us in the end? I can see you as Odysseus. Strong, brave, and using his wits to beat his opponents in clever, unexpected ways. Who would I be?”

“Penelope.”

Ghosts couldn’t technically choke, but that didn’t stop the shock from causing Edwin to cough. Of course Charles was at his side in a second, patting his back as if that could help. “Sorry, sorry. I guess I should say we’re both Odysseus and Penelope. It’s like you said, right? Odysseus’s super clever and using his brain to get out of all kinds of problems. So, he’s like you. And Penelope is also wicked brilliant, tricking the suitors to get off her back. Odysseus was all determined to make it back to her no matter what, and she was willing to wait for him, even though she actually had no way of knowing he was alive. I think that’s both of us, innit? If we ever got separated, we’d fight our way back to each other however we had to, no matter how long it took.”

I have found there's very specific things I just really enjoy in fics about Edwin and Charles's romantic relationship.

So, I honestly just can't picture Charles anything other than very inexperienced at intimacy but so excited. Like a teenager feeling up his first girlfriend in the back of a car or under the bleachers. Excited, nervous, eager to please and just kind of in awe of being able to touch someone like that. He's got almost no idea what he's doing but he's 100% open and willing to learning.

I think he always ends up smiling into kisses, a little lopsided grin that's pleased as hell. He always offers a bunch of little encouragements and comforts You're doing great. I know it's a lot but I've got you. You feel good.

And lots of nipping, bites, and marks because no one will ever convince me Charles is not a hickey man.

Charles thrives on positive feedback and Edwin makes sure to always give praise.

Edwin is just kind of overwhelmed with intimacy. Being intimate with someone is a lot, especially if you haven't had it before and you've kind of built it up in your head.

So, I always feel like Edwin is in this constant closer no that's too close wait come back push and pull of anxious affection that has him leaning into every touch even though he's also trying to pull away at the same time.

Lots of bitten off noises, hums and gasps. He touches like he's scared he's going to break something or it's all going to disappear.

If they have to stop because it gets to be too much for Edwin, Charles doesn't ever look upset. He's pleased as hell to be doing any of this. He can't think of anything Edwin could ever do to disappoint him.

Careful, light, sure touches because the only intimacy they both really have is terrible. Edwin with the boys who held him down and hell. Charles with his dad.

I think Charles shows his love by loving someone and Edwin shows his love by letting himself be loved.

Charles wasn't able to show love to his family or his friends, who weren't friends at all. I personally imagine he had lots of girls he messed around with while he was alive with but it never went beyond that into something serious.

He can't show his love to humans, like Crystal, because it makes them look crazy. He can't hold a living girl's hand in public without her getting looks. They can't kiss or even talk with other living humans around without it being strange.

He can show his love to Edwin in a way he can't show it to anyone else.

Edwin is proud to be seen with Charles. He can talk and touch and be with Charles regardless of who's around. I personally like the idea that ghosts can feel other ghosts, as if they were living people or something close to that.

So, being with Edwin feels like he's with Edwin.

I just think once the ice is broken on what their relationship is, that he'd be all over it. Holding hands, quick kisses, hugs, sitting next to each other or all tangled together. Also a big fan of Charles coming up behind Edwin, wrapping his arms around his waist and hooking his chin over his shoulder to watch whatever it is he's doing.

Edwin didn't have close friends or family when he was alive, at least that we're aware of. Then he spent decades in hell where his only touch was painful, terrrifying, never ending.

Letting someone touch him, put him in such a vulnerable position physically and emotionally, is a big ask. That's why he's never done it or seem to have even contemplated it until he realizes his feelings about Charles.

He lets Charles touch him, and protect him, and know him more than anyone one else living or dead. It's easy to open himself up for Charles to love him.

I also feel like there's such a comfort level there that Edwin could say I think I'd like to try *insert action here* and Charles would be like yep yep we can do that or Charles could say I've always wanted to try *insert action here* and Edwin's like okay I'll find a book and read up on it with a fluttering of anxious excitement.

Do I also personally like to think bdsm dynamics, sexual and/or nonsexual, are present in their relationship? Yes. Absolutely. 100%.

I don't think we talk enough about Edwin's reaction to Charles beating the Night Nurse. Because he's scared, he is worried and he is crying. But he is not scared of Charles at all, I think he is scared to lose him. Just in that episode, he had (unwillingly) told the Cat King that he helped other ghosts so he can defend his own case if Death ever came to take him to Hell again. He also says he is not proud about it, that it is selfish.

Charles would have gone to Heaven if he hadn't decided to stay with him. Edwin is sure. But, after what happened with the Night Nurse, he can't be sure anymore. He knows Charles, he knows he is a good man and he doesn't deserve to go to Hell. But he also knows Charles well enough to know he'll feel guilty. And that is how Hell gets you. Guilt drags to down.

I don't think Edwin was walking on eggshells around Charles as Crystal said. I think it just hurt him to see him, to face him, knowing that he may have selfishly made Charles lose his oportunity to go to pradise. Because he had stayed for him. Because he had been protecting him.

On one of my recent rewatches (note taking for color analysis), my partner sat and watched with me, and I thought I would share some of the things he had thoughts on in no particular order:

•He also believed that Niko's sprite attention cloud was a physical manifestation of soulmatedness/lesbianism directed at Crystal like the rest of us did

•He owns an older Miata, so he was pretty pleased with the fact that Esther owned one (the first time I had watched, I involuntarily clocked it (I am not a car person), so when she confirmed that I was correct in the last episode I had told him that he should be proud of himself, lol.)

•Loved Esther up until the very end

•He enjoyed the music

•I don't think he was fully sold on Niko at first, but she quickly became one of his favorites

●He liked Crystal the most from the beginning (He asked how people hated her because I talked to him about my frustration with some weird takes that were going on, to each their own, but that one also still confuses me.)

•'You're my best mate' "oof, not the friend zone"

•Both Esther and Niko seemed to have all of his favorite lines

•I accidentally spoiled the fact that Niko 'dies' but I didn't say anything about what happens after the fact, so when the last couple of episodes were foreshadowing her dying, he basically went 'but I don't want her to die :('

•In addition to the previous point, the morning before we watched the last two episodes (we had to watch it in chunks), he was talking about how he doubted that we would get renewed (not in a mean way) but the last episode closed out he immediately said he was angry there was no season 2 and that this show deserves at least a season 2

•He wasn't fully convinced that it's Niko in the Igloo at the end

•He wants Jenny to go to London because he loves her

•He got frustrated with nobody listening to Tragic Mick's story and cheered when Niko asked him to continue

•He wants Mick to be able to be a Walrus again

•He essentially said 'My god, he wants to fuck the cat' lol

•He struggled to describe the vibes he was getting off of the Cat King, he has yet to find the words

•He loved the cats (probably because they said fuck and other such words)

•He also enjoyed the dandelion sprites

•There wasn't a whole lot that he had to say about Edwin and Charles, just kinda vibed

•He apparently missed the Cat King's cat form the first time, so he saw the second instance and said,"Of course he's orange"

•I also asked the rhetorical question, "Who told the ghost population of Port Townsend that the Dead Boy Detectives and their new medium were there?" Without hesitation, he went, "It was the Cat King."

•He has been exposed to Orbwin and Chorb content on here and is deeply entertained by it, so he looked really worried after the explosion at the butcher shop so to help I pointed and said "Look, it's Chorb!" It helped

So, needless to say, if you haven't already watched it, you should watch Dead Boy Detectives.

OH GOD FAUSTS SHIRT LOOKS SO COMFY

He's so pretty and fancy. I hope people tune in tomorrow, I am very very really super duper proud of this particular audio. If you thought the Auron/Edwin banter was enjoyable, the brothers are even better in my humble opinion. I'm balls deep in my bag!

Also this episode (and the series in particular) gives us some closer insight into how Emrys operates and some of what he is up to. Stuff is happening!

I didn't want to go this far back in the story to start, but I think seeing how Faust and Finneas' lives differed while they were in the capital is a core piece of information that helps shape our understanding of their motivations. It was also much more interesting for the listener personally, because even more important than Faust/Finn, we are at the beginning of THEIR story. It is their inciting incident that kicks us off. It's a bit of a change of pace because a lot of what I've been doing is voiced character-centric.

In retrospect, starting The Tower a day or two prior to where we actually started would have been cooler! But those decisions were made prior to some of my own leveling up, and that had been the plan for literal years, so I didn't really consider.

Lessons learned! I'm excited for y'all to see what's going on and how it all plays out.

I need more of Edwin crawling out of hell, desperate and barely breathing and hurting but thinking about the field behind the school. About the lake and how gorgeous the sun looked on it. How warm the air was. His brother surely having won the war and how proud his parents would be when he made it home (he didn’t) and wanting so deeply and completely to be Edwin again only to stumble into a dark school, cold and unfeeling, hopeful and bursting with disbelief only for it all to be gone. It’s decades later, no one remembered him, the world is gone and then there’s a boy who somehow feels like a piece of him some 70 years later, still quivering and cold and hurting in the attic. Give me an edwin who holds him anyway but feels that little light inside him dim cause dreams are for the living - for boys who still have a future, who don’t know that time doesn’t change anything.

An Edwin who finds it slowly coming back cause that boy found hope again just like him except his never dims, he just holds their lantern tighter and smiles at Edwin like he himself is the sun cause to him he is

just a short little drabble between comics!Edwin and Charles and dbda!Edwin and Charles, with Charles wanting to teach comic! Edwin self-defense.

It shouldn't have bothered Charles as much as it did. Or, he supposed, it should bother him, but it should bother him the same amount that it always did when it came to his own Edwin.

But staring at this version of Edwin, this short, blond, childish version of Edwin that had also been dragged to Hell upset him more than he cared to admit.

Not that he needed to admit it. Everyone could tell, even the two Edwins and other Charles standing in the room.

"Right, so," Charles said, holding his hands up. "I tried to teach that version of you-" he nodded his head towards his Edwin, "how to do this and he refused." He nodded towards the gloves on this baby-brother version of Edwin and gestured for him to "put his dukes up" as the other version of himself had so kindly cheered from the sidelines, much to his Edwin's amusement.

Kid Edwin looked at Charles and then the other version of himself skeptically. "What good is this going to do?" he asked, waving one of the almost comically large gloves around.

"Sock 'em, Edwin! Or me, I guess," the other Charles shouted. He nearly knocked over a stack of their books from his perch on top of their desk, much to his Edwin's annoyance.

"Self-defense," Charles said. He tried to hide his own annoyance that his lesson wasn't being fully listened to- by anyone it seemed. Self-defense was something his own Edwin could stand to learn, but the idea of this- this absolute child version of his best friend facing even half of what his own Edwin had faced made him sick. It's not like he (or this version of himself anyways) was always going to be with him, he needed to be able to protect himself.

"Hardly," kid Edwin said as his glove nearly slipped off. "Besides, Charles does a wonderful job of all that."

The other version of Charls cheered again, his chest puffing out as he elbowed the older version of Edwin. He looked rather proud of himself, if Charles did say so.

Charles sighed as he closed his eyes and pinched the bridge of his nose. "Look, I just think it would be a good idea if you learned! You're like, what, eight?"

"I'm thirteen," Edwin said, his tone moody and scorching in the way only a young teen could be.

"Well, you look ten at best, mate, really I-"

Before he could even finish his sentence, he slammed into the ground and found himself staring up at the ceiling. The tiny, kid version of Edwin stooped into his view, his position from on top of him hardly even felt over the pain that his bony shoulder meeting Charles's stomach so unexpectedly had caused.

"I think you just lost to a thirteen-year-old," his Edwin said, oh so helpfully.

He tilted his head to the side, looking at his Edwin and the other version of Charles, both of them wearing rather amused expressions.

"Shoulda warned ya he's a bit feral," the other Charles joked before nearly laughing himself off the desk.

Kid Edwin's face turned bright red, his embarrassment growing now that his point had been made. He scrambled off of Charles, a quick, 'sorry' spat out so fast Charles wasn't even sure he'd heard it.

"I believe that to be sufficient enough," his Edwin said as he stepped forward and offered a hand out to Charles. "Well done, um, me."

Kid Edwin's blush seemed permanently seared into his face as he ducked his head. It only deepened when his own version of Charles hopped of the desk and slung his arm around his neck.

Well, it was good to see some things stayed the same in every universe.

I absolutely adore writing esther + monty's relationship. it's such a fucked up bond that you literally never run out of things to explore.

where did she find him? how are familiars created? had she had any before him? id assume there's magic involved that bonds a witch and their familiar that prevents them from losing one another and allows them to communicate. does monty have traces of esther's magic? is he able to harness it? how long to familiars live? if they're connected to their witches, how long can they live after the witch dies?

had esther taken "donations" from monty before? was he used to sitting on the counter as she took blood or feathers for her potions? when did she start? did she want to get him used to the role of a familiar quite young or did she wait until he was older? was it ever used as punishment? there is so much there.

did he know? did he sit down on the counter prepared to have a feather or two plucked, perhaps a slight pain but nothing he hadn't felt before, of course, and then she tore him apart and there was so much pain that it felt like it was coming from everywhere at once? did he ever see the remnants of his old body?

was he scared, when he looked up at her? when he smiled, because she was smiling at him? he was in this new body that felt so many different things, but he couldn't feel the pain where the needle had dragged twine through his flesh. she didn't see him as anything more than an experiment. when would he realize this?

did she take him clothes shopping? did they break in somewhere? was anything paid for? did she help him, give him suggestions on what to pick out? or did everything come from the back of her closet, from the styles she had long outgrown? did she choose the crow jewelry as a way to remind him of what he really was, or did he find it and want to remind himself? was there any comfort in it?

was she ever proud of him? did she ever think he was doing a good job in fooling the agency? or did she always want him to work quicker, work harder, always putting her plan above everything else?

did she make him queer? is that even something she could have controlled? or did she just tell him to flirt with the boys and it worked out that he was queer? would it have been better if he wasn't? if he hadn't fallen for edwin and hadn't gotten attached?

does he even know what homophobia is? (with the way esther looked two seconds from a hate crime whenever he brought edwin up, id think he has an idea.) but does he know what it means? does he know any terms regarding the queer community? does he even know how he identifies?

did he feel like he could fly again while on the swingset?

why didn't he die when esther did? id think familiars are connected to their witches, to their magic or their lives. were the things esther had done to him so vile that their bond had begun to fray? was he able to find a life for himself that prevented him from dying alongside her?

how does he feel about magic, after everything? would he want to learn? esther had plenty of books, and he taught himself to read. surely he could learn something from them, but would he really want to be involved in that? and what kind of magic would that teach him? does he have esther's magic? would he even want to harness that? would he want to figure out a way to switch between human and crow on his own terms? who would he go to to learn? edwin knows magic, of course, but how awkward would that be? the cat king is a shapeshifter, but a cat and a crow collaborating is a preposterous idea.

would monty want to learn about crows? can he communicate with them, or was he only ever able to speak with esther? crow parents teach their children, but monty's family weren't crows.

I just have so many thoughts about monty and im trying to translate most of them into fic but it's been slow so far. things to think about, I guess. monty deserves so much love and happiness but I will have to angst him first!

In your reverse au, if Charles isn't the fighter but is still the one with anger issues, how do you imagine the whole night nurse scene plays out? Especially if its switched with Kashi?

Mmmh, good question. I've been thinking about this one for a few days (sorry for replying so late!) and I don't have a definitive answer yet, so everyone feel free to make suggestions!

I feel Edwin panics. What is Kashi, really? Edwin is not sure. Maybe an angel... Probably a demon. In any case, nothing he wants to fight. And Kashi looks so friendly, so open, but he's saying he will separate them.

And Edwin went through the Devlin house loop very recently. He's got a lot to think about. He saw a fucked up version of his own family, his own upbringing, which he has always been so proud of, ending up like that.

His parents were cold, sure, but they would never. Even if Edwin had been a bit more rebellious. Even if Edwin had acted upon those... Feelings he has. They would never, right?

And then Kashi makes him see some memories. He never acted on those feelings, but he was punished for it all the same. He was killed. He was tortured. He died a slow, painful death, and the only reason he wasn't alone is... Charles.

Charles who is trembling with rage behind him. Charles who hates fighting because it brings the worst out of him, and he has fought enough, he spent 70 years fighting, hurting others, getting hurt. And Edwin promised him he wouldn't have to fight anymore.

Edwin promised he would keep them both out of Hell's reach, even if they deserve it.

He doesn't think the Devlin girl deserved what her father did. Maybe he didn't deserve his own death either. And Charles is angry and violent and a bit manipulative, but Edwin will fight anyone who says he deserved what happened to him.

So he fights Kashi.
