thinking again about my headcanon that the male vikings of berk traditionally don't braid their own hair and how stoick in flashbacks always has his beard in one big braid versus present stoick with his many little braids and how valka likely braided it in one mass and maybe he had some sister or cousin take care of it after she was gone and then at some point hiccup probably wanted to try braiding it for him instead but his little hands were too tiny to handle all of that hair and maybe stoick was about to tell him it was alright but then little baby hiccup figured out he could just make a bunch of smaller braids instead and they kept up this ritual forever after and maybe by the time hiccup was a teenager he realized he was probably capable of making a single larger braid but he kept doing the smaller braids because it was an excuse to spend more time with his dad doing something he was good at without getting into trouble and stoick probably also realized the little braids weren't really necessary anymore but he didn't say anything because it was an excuse for his son to voluntarily touch him and maybe by the time the first movie came around it was maybe the only time they really spent together in the same room without arguing and stoick would sit there as hiccup slowly and carefully made each tiny braid and neither of them would say a word throughout the entire process but the silence between them would be filled with all of the times a younger hiccup would babble about his day as he braided his daddy's beard and get annoyed when stoick tried to respond because "when you open your mouth it moves your jaw and that makes the braiding harder hold still please" and neither of them ever wanted the present moment to end but eventually hiccup would tie off the last braid and say something like "that should be it" and get up to walk away and maybe stoick would stand up and say "thanks hiccup, you, uh, stay out of trouble" and then as soon as hiccup would leave the room stoick would berate himself for not saying something more encouraging while hiccup would head to his room or the forge convinced his dad thinks that the only thing his father thinks he's good for is braiding and

Weeelcome to my very first blog. You can call me Poke or whatever else you derive from my username or blog. My pronouns are they/them. This is a blog for fanfics, but maybe at some point I'll post art or something else. I am prone to shitposting too. Also, this is kind of a tickle blog too. You don't have to ask for tickle fics, though. Although not for much longer, I am seventeen do keep in mind, so whatever you ask please keep that in mind. I am a part of many fandoms, though I am into some more than others so you may see some favoritism.

Just some rules or information. I will not write anything sexual, at least for the time being. My writing style may paint pretty intimate pictures, but I do try to refrain from it. Please do not ask me to write anything yandere, involving weird age-gaps, or anything with k*nks as I am personally not a fan of the tropes/topics at all. I don't care what gender you ask me to write for, but by default it will be gender neutral. Most of my fics will also be ambiguous in any other sense, so unless specified they can be read as either platonic or romantic. Also, don't be afraid to be specific! The more details, the better.

All of the fandoms I am into and will write for if asked. I am not opposed to suggestions also!

I am writing to urge immediate action towards transforming our corrections system from one focused on punishment and control, to a model centered on human dignity and rehabilitation. The current punitive approach perpetuates cycles of incarceration, abuse, and societal disintegration, ultimately failing to rehabilitate individuals and reintegrate them into our communities.

Recent analyses of European prison systems, such as Norway's Halden Prison, demonstrate the effectiveness of a human dignity approach. At Halden, private rooms, communal living spaces, vocational training, and family contact are prioritized, resulting in lower rates of violence and recidivism. This approach not only fosters humane treatment but also proves to be cost-effective in the long term.

We must shift away from a system that dehumanizes individuals and perpetuates a cycle of incarceration and abuse. Instead, we must embrace a model that prioritizes rehabilitation, second chances, and societal reintegration. Comprehensive prison reform that centers on human dignity is not only morally imperative but also a crucial step towards creating a more just and equitable society.

It is time to end modern slave labor within the for-profit prison industrial complex and invest in rehabilitation-focused treatment. We have a responsibility to nurture emotionally intelligent individuals and provide real opportunities for those who have been failed by the system.

I urge you to support and advocate for legislation that embodies the principles of human dignity and rehabilitation. Let us work together to ensure that every individual receives a genuine second chance and the opportunity to rebuild their lives.

Justice for the American people! Together we can say NO to Modern Slave Labor in the USA! Let's make their second chance count! Thank you for your attention to this critical issue.

Activism is not cold-calling, and this is critically important to understand.

I'm seeing a lot of posts on here about 'building bridges' and 'finding community,' and then (extremely valid) response posts saying "BUT HOW??" And I'm going to explain something that can be very counter-intuitive: there is strategy involved in community.

As a longtime volunteer labour organizer, I’ve taken and taught many trainings on the strategy of talking. Something that surprises a lot of people is the very first thing you do in a union campaign. You sit down with your organizing committee, take out pen and paper, and literally map it out. You draw a physical map of the workplace: where are the entrances, exits, break rooms, supervisor offices. Essentially, ‘where is it safe to have a union conversation.’ Then you draw another physical chart of your coworkers. You sort out who is union-friendly, openly hostile to unions, or somewhere in the middle, and then you plan out very deliberately and carefully who talks to whom and in what order.

Consider: If Vocally Leftist Jane walks up to Conservative David and says "hey what do you think about unions," David is going to shut down immediately. He's not inclined to listen to Jane. But if Jane talks to Moderate Jason and brings him into the fold, then Jason is a far more effective strategic choice to talk to David, and David may actually hear him out without an instant reaction.

IMPORTANT CAVEAT: If Conservative David turns out to be Alt-Right David, and could be dangerous to follow organizers, we write him off. We are not trying to reach Alt-Right David. We are trying to reach Conservative David, who may actually be persuaded to find solidarity with other employees as fellow workers. Jason is a safe scout to find out which one he is. It does no one any good if Leftist Jane (or even Moderate Jane who is a visible minority) talks to Alt-Right David and puts herself on his radar. Not only has she done nothing to convince Alt-Right David to join a union - she's probably actively turned him against the idea - but now she's also in danger and the entire campaign is at risk. NOBODY WANTS THIS. Jane was NOT a hero for doing this. The organizing committee was foolish and enacted a terrible strategy to everyone's detriment.

Where you can make a difference is with people who will listen to you. You having a conversation with your well-meaning but clueless Centrist Democrat Auntie, and maybe gently helping her understand some things the media has been glossing over, is way more strategically useful than you marching up to MAGA Neighbour You've Met Once and trying to "build community" or "understand" them. They don't care. They're impervious, dangerous, and cruel. But maybe your beloved auntie will think about what you said, and then talk to her friend Anna who IDs as "fiscally conservative" but didn't vote because she can't bring herself to get on board with Trump. Then perhaps Anna talks to her brother Nic who has MAGA leanings but isn't all the way there yet. Proto-MAGA Nic would not have listened to you, nor would he have listened to Centrist Democrat Auntie, but he might absorb some of what his sister is saying.

This is not a cop-out or an echo chamber. This is you spending your time and energy strategically and safely. You are not a useful activist to anyone if you’re dead. Anyone who is telling you to hurl yourself directly at MAGA assholes like cannon fodder has no understanding of the strategy behind community building, and you should feel comfortable writing them off.

Last point: If you are tired, emotionally devastated, and/or in danger: take a break. This post is for people who would feel better jumping into action, not for people who are too overwhelmed to even think about it right now. You are worth so much even if you’re not actively Doing Activism, and your rest is worth more than “a break period so you can recharge and Do More Activism.” We all deserve the individual dignity of being worthy of comfort, rest & safety just on the basis of being human, outside of whatever we're doing for others' benefit. To deny ourselves that dignity is to devalue ourselves, and that’s the absolute last thing any of us should be doing right now.
