I am BEYOND HYPE to kickoff the #BNLEGACY series this weekend!!! 🙌🏿 Please join us online this Saturday Sat as I interview Author & Professor Chris Cameron on his work about #BlackFreethinkers. (DM for Zoom link or watch LIVE Saturday 2p EST on FB at 👉🏿BNofDC) __________ As the nation awakens to a deeper understanding of the history and legacy of slavery, systemic racism and white supremacy, people are realizing that much of what they’ve learned is incomplete, as best, or inaccurate at worst. The popularity of projects like the New York Times Magazine’s #1619Project are shining a light on heretofore undiscovered and uncovered history. LEGACY! is extending this learning and discovery process into an area of Black history and culture that still seems elusive, even at a time when so much of the rest of our history is being unearthed. LEGACY! will be highlighting voices of religious dissent in the African-American (and Caribbean-American) cultural experience with a 5-part event series throughout September and October. ___________ Produced by Black Nonbelievers of DC, @bnonbelieversinc and @americanhumanist begins on September 19, 2020 and extends through October 17, 2020. __________ #BlackHistory #blacklivesmatter #blackpower #nikkigiovanni #jamesbaldwin #zoranealehurston #nellalarsen #RichardWright #SoniaSanchez #eldridgecleaver #amiribaraka #whitesupremacy #lorrainehansberry #simonedebouvoir #blackartsmovement #jameshcone #blackliberationtheology #blackliberation #blackpantherparty #hueypnewton #blackhumanism #blackactivism https://www.instagram.com/p/CFQ9pnJgrdC/?igshid=h97msbznw02a

Eldridge Cleaver was nominated for President in #1968, despite being technically ineligible to run since he was not 35 years old. Cleaver was a prominent figure in the African-American community as the Minister of Information of the Black Panther Party. Peggy Terry was a Chicago activist. The two ran on a platform of Black liberation and the withdrawal from Vietnam. Two states, California and Utah, refused to list Cleaver on the ballot. Richard Nixon ultimately won the presidential election. #blackpower #blackpanther #elections #blackexcellence #blacklivesmatter #presidentialelection #eldridgecleaver (at Lower Haight) https://www.instagram.com/p/CBvgyOIhqS4Qx11Eh-jKhYPVz5bBkmYWINd9iw0/?igshid=dombsoa5we4j

On September 15th, 1970 the New Orleans chapter of the Black Panther Party held their ground in the Desire Housing Projects against law enforcement in a shootout that lasted over 30 minutes. At 8:00 am over 100 officers in military gear stormed down on the Panther’s headquarters located at 3544 Piety St. and unloaded gunfire in an attempt to eradicate the Black Panther Party from the State of Louisiana. Miraculously no one was killed in this standoff.
Law enforcement made another attempt to raid the headquarters on November 19, but thousands of Desire residents circled the building in a successful effort to protect the members and fend off another violent attack.
In August of 1971 all of the members were found not guilty.

On To The Next: But Dealing With The Aftermath (Part Ten)
On To The Next: But Dealing With The Aftermath (Part Ten)
Another Monday morning has rolled around on us as we proceed and continue on to the next! Probably heard me say we’re dealing with the aftermath of previous episodes as 2021 modes rolled over into 2022, the sport is complex! Players are in health and safety protocols like the NBA due to the coronavirus! Prayers are sent up relating to health and well-being; souls on ice per Eldridge…

Eskimo Shoulder. A classic piece on Abdulnaby’s Typewriter. abdulnaby.tumblr.com. I am the coolest guy that you know According to you That is why you wanted to hear my cool tone of voice But you are cool off of my experiences Bounded by visual stimuli and physical property You freeze out when I enunciate With the immediacy of a typewriter At the rats who troll Reeking of cheese, rotten like the ribbons Of a typewriter, missing conscious syntax Your ventricles shiver When I coolly spit doctrine on the capital structure That held Cooley High lower than an igloo I chill in the cut, deconstructing the cold steel frame With one ice pick Wrapped in a cold predicate bun But yeah, I’m cool I am so cool that I can hold ice In my left palm While my right palm Flips the omelet I am so cool that I blow clouds of peppermint To soothe your hot, nasty nose hair I am so cool That James Brown paid me back And asked for a receipt I am so cool That I kicked a soccer ball filled with dry ice Into the net for The African Cup The net stayed still One time, I chilled out a tamale By staring at it with a Magnum Again, I skated on the frozen ice Past the Finnish national team On my stomach Holding the puck in my teeth To flick it in My coolness allows me to throw A stone at your glass house Hitting your ice blockhead Knock your azz out cold While I chill next to your fine azz homegirl On the cool leather sofa So dead that hot noise, son #soulonice #eldridgecleaver #eskimos #canada #peppermint #iceblocks #theafricancup #hotair #thecoolest #thecoolcafe #nycpoet #brooklynpoet https://www.instagram.com/p/Bygv-pTFiMT/?igshid=1hg5w7dxejuso

North Dakota on #MLKDay
2016-2017 has seen North Dakotans demonstrate their complete incompetency as decent, evolved humans.
I just read MLK’s “Letter From a Birmingham Jail” for the first time. I don’t know why I’ve never come across it before.
In 1963, MLK wrote: “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly. Never again can we afford to live with the narrow, provincial "outside agitator" idea. Anyone who lives inside the United States can never be considered an outsider anywhere within its bounds.”
In 2016 the main complaint of locals in Bismarck and across the state expressed anger that outside individuals came to protest the DAPL pipeline. That the tribes should have tried to hold meetings rather than set up camps to protect their sacred land at Standing Rock.
Again Mr. King: “You are quite right in calling for negotiation. Indeed, this is the very purpose of direct action. Nonviolent direct action seeks to create such a crisis and foster such a tension that a community which has constantly refused to negotiate is forced to confront the issue. It seeks so to dramatize the issue that it can no longer be ignored. My citing the creation of tension as part of the work of the nonviolent resister may sound rather shocking. But I must confess that I am not afraid of the word "tension." I have earnestly opposed violent tension, but there is a type of constructive, nonviolent tension which is necessary for growth. Just as Socrates felt that it was necessary to create a tension in the mind so that individuals could rise from the bondage of myths and half truths to the unfettered realm of creative analysis and objective appraisal, so must we see the need for nonviolent gadflies to create the kind of tension in society that will help men rise from the dark depths of prejudice and racism to the majestic heights of understanding and brotherhood. The purpose of our direct action program is to create a situation so crisis packed that it will inevitably open the door to negotiation.”
I just watched “13th” the documentary. The footage of civil rights protesters attacked by dogs and water hoses looked just like that of police officers doing the same to the water protectors. A bill has been introduced which would provide, “Liability exemption for motor vehicle driver.Notwithstanding any other provision of law, a driver of a motor vehicle who negligently  causes injury or death to an individual obstructing vehicular traffic on a public road, street, or highway may not be held liable for any damages.” Bill 1203 is an immediate reaction to the DAPL protests.
In 1963, MLK wrote: “Any law that uplifts human personality is just. Any law that degrades human personality is unjust. All segregation statutes are unjust because segregation distorts the soul and damages the personality. It gives the segregator a false sense of superiority and the segregated a false sense of inferiority.”
Last week North Dakota legislature voted down a ruling that would change the language of ND laws to become gender neutral. Specifically, those that specify marriage as that between a man and a woman. Federal law states that same-sex unions are equal. But our local lawmakers opted for a “moral” statement to show they don’t agree.
I just finished reading Native Son (1940) and Eldridge Cleaver’s Post-Prison Writings and Speeches (1969). I found Cleaver’s book in a thrift shop in England. I’ve never come across his name at all in America. I have so many pages dog-eared that I’d like to quote, which I will do later--I’ve left my copies at work. Each passage has struck me as the exact same fucking thing that we’re still seeing today.
Not super profound, but I’ve just been so shook this year reading all these essays and letters and stories from years and years ago which depict exact parallels to today.
