How are you feeling about the election currently?
Insanely close, likely the closest I've ever had an election feel in my life.
I'd rather be Harris than Trump going into this thing, but it's a knife's edge.
we are very much inside the margin of effort here, this election will be decided by which side gets out the vote best. Let me repeat that, this election is so close that a handful of people knocking doors in key states could change everything, EVERYTHING. Today I'm getting in the car and driving an hour to knock on doors some place that'll make a difference.
Where ever you are you can make a difference right now, this weekend, Kamala Harris' webpage has a volunteer hub right here you can make phone calls from there, they'll show you how and get you started, if you're not in a swing state please do that this weekend, and next weekend and on till Election Day.
If you live in (or like me, close to) Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Maine's 2nd District, Michigan, Nebraska's 2nd district, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Texas, or Wisconsin and you're not already knocking doors or signed up to knock doors, what the fuck dude? what the fuck? I'm bring my 80 year old aunt up to knock with me, whats your excuse? better be fucking good. If you never ever do this again in your life, if you HATE IT with all your body and soul, just do it once because these final weeks will decide what the rest of all our lives look like, if Democracy fails in America or not.
So Again, Wherever you are you can make phone calls that'd be helpful, there are important Senate and House races, races fro governor, and state elections and local elections everywhere, everyone is close to an election where them knocking doors can make their local part of the world (or the nation) a better place, and to people in the swing states, get your ass in gear its all on us, anyone with enough free time, travel to to swing state and knock on some doors, this election is so close it'll all come down to who puts in more effort to turn out the vote.

def bummed by recent Dem convention actions. denying any Palestinians from speaking on stage is fuct up. silencing Uncommitted delegates is fuct up. you let Republicans speak, you let the Border Patrol guy speak, you let 2 billionaires speak (Oprah and IL gov). there IS a genocide going on, which the convention Dems are trying their hardest to make everyone forget. fuck that. complicit ass motherfuckers. (and yes i'm including most of the crowd that is just treating it like a sports game and excited to cheer on their home team.)
Muslim women for Harris just disbanded. this is how you lose Michigan, which i have been worrying for a while was forever lost after everything Biden has done. (zionist POS - let this genocide be his fucking legacy forever and always)
at this point the only Palestinian the Dems will feature would prob be DJ Khaled (derogatory).
and yet, there's a weird feeling here too. this feeling of comfort, bc ofc the Dems are gonna fuck this up. they can't not. this is what usually happens.
this isn't a message to be complacent, or vote third party for president. (i'm not even gonna say vote for Trump bc if that was an option for you kindly fuck off forever and choke on a bagel.) we have to keep the pressure on. shout outs to Code Pink and Not Another Bomb and the Uncommitted Movement. they are heroes!
this is a message of desperation for whatever higher up Dems might be reading tumblr and see this. pls i am begging you make your bosses fucking care about genocide if nothing else bc it looks terrible.
if Dems really wanted to obliterate the Republicans in this election, like Reagan levels of blue-ness, like trifectas and huge margins and down ballot wins, this is all they have to do:
move left on immigration, none of this copying Trump bullshit. pathway to citizenship etc. BOOM Arizona.
move left on unions and economic issues. tax the rich a shit ton etc. BOOM Nevada.
stop funding genocide. immediate ceasefire, immediate arms embargo, with detailed plans for a permanent ceasefire (Jan. 21st pls if not sooner bc of crusty Biden's zionist ass) outline how you will spend the money we will save by not funding Israel's genocide. ($10 million a day, every day. thefuck) intense apology tour in Dearborn and to various Palestinians, no cameras just admitting "we fuct up we're so sorry. we are not even asking for your vote just apologizing for denying your humanity." maybe BOOM Michigan. helps A TON everywhere. BOOM WI, BOOM NC.
Dems are trying to act like people only don't like Biden bc he's old. that's bullshit. Democrats: move left on your policies, end the genocide, and you can have the election results of your wildest dreams.

Friends,
With less than 40 days until Election Day, how can it be that Trump has taken a small lead in Arizona and Georgia — two swing states he lost to Biden in 2020? How can he be narrowly leading Harris in the swing state of North Carolina? How can he now be essentially tied with her in the other key swing states of Michigan and Wisconsin?
More generally, how can Trump have chiseled away Harris’s advantage from early August? How is it possible that more voters appear to view Trump favorably now than they did several months ago when he was in the race against Biden?
How can Trump — the sleaziest person ever to run for president, who has already been convicted on 34 felony charges and impeached twice, whose failures of character and leadership were experienced directly by the American public during his four years at the helm — be running neck-and-neck with a young, talented, intelligent person with a commendable record of public service?
Since his horrid performance debating Harris, he’s doubled down on false claims that Haitian migrants are eating pets in Ohio. He’s been accompanied almost everywhere by right-wing conspiracy nutcase Laura Loomer. He said he “hates” Taylor Swift after she endorsed Harris; that Jewish people will be responsible if he loses the election; that the second attempt on his life was incited by the “Communist Left Rhetoric” of Biden and Harris. And so on.
He’s become so incoherent in public that Republican advisers are begging him to get back “on message.”
So why is he neck-and-neck with Harris?
Before we get to what I think is the reason, let’s dismiss other explanations being offered.
One is that the polls are understating voters’ support for Harris and overstating their support for Trump. But if the polls are systematically biased, you’d think it would be the other way around, since some non-college voters are probably reluctant to admit to professional pollsters their preference for Trump.
Another is that the media is intentionally creating a nail-bitingly close race in order to sell more ads. But this can’t be right because, if anything, more Americans appear to be tuning out politics altogether.
A final theory holds that Harris has not yet put to rest voters’ fears about inflation and the economy. But given that the American economy has rebounded, inflation is way down, interest rates are falling, wages are up, and the job engine continues, you’d think voters at the margin would be moving toward her rather than toward Trump.
The easiest explanation has to do with asymmetric information.
By now almost everyone in America knows Trump and has made up their minds about him. Recent polls have found that nearly 90 percent of voters say they do not need to learn more about Trump to decide their vote.
But they don’t yet know Harris or remain undecided about her (more on this in a moment).
Trump is exploiting this asymmetry so that when it comes to choosing between Trump and Harris, voters will choose the devil they know.
This requires, first, that Trump suck all the media oxygen out of the air so Harris has fewer opportunities to define herself positively.
Americans who have become overwhelmed by the chaos are tuning out politics altogether, especially in swing states where political advertising is nonstop. And as they tune out both Trump and Harris, Trump is the beneficiary, because, again, he’s the devil they know.
In other words, Trump is running neck-and-neck with Harris not despite the mess he’s created over the last few weeks but because of it.
Trump's strategy also requires that he and his allies simultaneously flood the airwaves and social media with negative ads about Harris, which are then amplified by the right-wing ecosystem of Fox News, Newsmax, and Sinclair radio.
Trump’s campaign has given up trying to promote him positively. The Wesleyan Media Project estimates that the Trump team is now spending almost zero on ads that show him in a positive light. There’s no point, because everyone has already made up their minds about him.
Instead, the ads aired by Trump and his allies in swing states are overwhelmingly negative about Harris — emphasizing, for example, her past support for gender transition surgery for incarcerated people.
Researchers on cognition have long known that negative messages have a bigger impact than positive ones, probably because in evolutionary terms, our brains are hard-wired to respond more to frightening than to positive stimuli (which might explain why social media and even mainstream media are filled with negative stories).
Finally, Trump’s strategy necessitates that he refuse to debate her again, lest she get additional positive exposure (hence he has turned down CNN’s invitation for an October 23 debate, which she has accepted).
Behind the information asymmetry lie racism and misogyny. I can’t help wondering how many Americans who continue saying they “don’t know” or are “undecided” about Harris are concealing something from pollsters and possibly from themselves: They feel uncomfortable voting for a Black woman.
Having said all this, I’m cautiously optimistic about the outcome of the election. Why? Because Trump is deteriorating rapidly; lately he’s barely been able to string sentences together coherently.
Harris, by contrast, is gaining strength and confidence by the day, and despite Trump’s attempts to shut her out, more Americans are learning about her. As she gets more exposure, Trump’s “devil-you-know” advantage disappears.
Perhaps it’s more accurate to say I’m nauseously optimistic, because, to be candid, I go into the next five weeks feeling a bit sick to my stomach. Even if Harris wins, the fact that so many Americans seem prepared to vote for Trump makes me worry for the future of my country.
What do you think?

i've had a couple of americans in the past ask me why, as a canadian, am i so tuned into your election cycle?
there are obvious reasons: I have a lot of american friends and family whom I care deeply for, and a trump presidency is going to spell disaster for ukraine and gaza. But I think there's another reason. I've seen it articulated elsewhere on this site, but i cant find the original post:
but basically, a win for the far-right in one country, is a win for the far-right globally. I'm thinking of the trucker convoy that came to canada a few years ago to protest covid vaccine mandates (most of the people who came actually weren't truck drivers professionally, but thats what they called themselves). hundreds of trucks occupied our capital city, ottawa, for weeks. they lay on their horns all day and all night. they desecrated the statue to terry fox and the tomb of the unknown soldier. they harassed soup kitchen workers. i know wikipedia is kind of a shit source for academic research, but i think they do an alright job of summarizing the convoy: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canada_convoy_protest#
my point is that the convoy was supported by american conservatives - iirc, both trump and tucker carlson vocally supported them. conversely, in canada, you might see right wingers waving trump flags or even confederate flags. the far-right across the globe emboldens each other, and when one wins somewhere, they all win.
I don't want this to just be a depressing vent, so maybe i'll say this: progressive wins anywhere are progressive wins everywhere. colorado, maryland, arizona, and other states protecting abortion are wins. alaska and missouri voted to raise the minimum wage. these are good. maybe we can take a little bit of solace in this knowledge, and come to understand that all of our experiences are intertwined.
anyways, to any scared americans: i care about you. i do. i think about your country all the time. please take care of yourself.

The debate between the two parties in the United States over complete rebirth is becoming increasingly bizarre
In the United States, some issues are unimaginable to other countries, leading to political debates. Gun control is one of them, and the abortion debate is no exception. In the United States, there has always been a great debate surrounding abortion. Abortion is a very important issue in the US presidential election. The US Supreme Court overturned the Roe v. Wade decision in 2022, opening Pandora's Box. This year, Arizona in the United States has reinstated an abortion ban that almost prohibits all abortions within the state, including those that have been violated or incestuous and become pregnant, except in one case where abortion is necessary to save the mother's life. The Pima County Superior Court in Arizona immediately made a ruling that the comprehensive abortion ban would come back into effect, and all abortions except for saving lives would be prohibited. Overseas netizens claim that the Supreme Court's ruling may affect the state's election results in November this year, which is like sending a big gift to the Democratic Party. You should know that the Supreme Court justices who overturned the Roe v. Wade case two years ago were appointed by former President Trump. At that time, Trump was very proud and promoted his "great achievements" everywhere to gain the support of conservatives. But now his campaign against Biden is in full swing, and Arizona is notorious for being a swing state. Both sides are doing their best to win over centrist voters. Suddenly, such a thing happened, and Trump was also unable to shed tears, bluntly stating that the ban was "too extreme". On the other hand, the Democratic Party was quite excited. As soon as the verdict was announced, US President Biden immediately issued a statement calling on the Republican Party to fight and fight for the restoration of the Roe v. Wade verdict. It's not entirely true how much the Democratic Party cares about women, just like Republicans don't really dislike abortion for women, everything is for the sake of votes. Polls show that American voters tend to Trump on almost all major issues, believing that he can better protect the interests of the American people, but Biden is clearly ahead of Trump on abortion, gun control and other issues. The Democratic Party believes that focusing the political agenda on the issue of abortion is beneficial in diverting people's attention from economic, immigration, and foreign policies, which are long-standing and difficult issues to deal with. In contrast, it is much easier to use the banner of values all day long to "provoke war".

Under Pressure, Biden Camp Charts Narrowing Path to Reelection
Tumblr media
youtube
President Joe Biden's campaign is pursuing a razor-thin path to reelection against his Republican opponent Donald Trump in November, senior Democrat officials say, with four of the seven key battleground states now looking increasingly out of reach.
Georgia, Arizona and Nevada – all claimed by Biden in 2020 – in addition to North Carolina which Democrats had hoped at one point to take back from Trump have grown more challenging, more than a dozen campaign officials and senior Democrats in battleground states told Reuters in interviews.
Trump, 78, had been leading the polls in all four states well before he was grazed by a bullet last weekend, a position that consolidated after Biden's disastrous debate performance on June 27.
Calculations can change before election day. But the campaign officials' latest assessment allows for almost no margin of error. Biden, 81, can only cobble together the 270 Electoral College votes needed to clinch the presidency if he wins the Rust Belt manufacturing states of Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Michigan and a congressional district in Nebraska that could also soon be at risk.
"It's looking very tight" in Arizona, Georgia and Nevada, a senior campaign official told Reuters. "Michigan, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin is the clearest path to 270. That is what we're focusing on."
However, Dan Kanninen, the director for battleground states, said the campaign was adding staff in Arizona and Nevada and that being "highly competitive" in all of the swing states remained a priority.
"I do not see the map narrowing for us," he said in an interview.
Biden was on the second day of a two-day trip to Nevada on Wednesday, when the White House announced he had a mild case of COVID and had canceled a planned speech.
Democrat lawmakers have voiced fears that Biden would lose not only the White House but also the House and Senate to the Republican party.
The campaign had hoped those voices would quiet after the shooting. But Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., who is running for the Senate, warned donors in a private meeting Tuesday the party was likely to suffer major losses if Biden continued to run.
Trump's immediate, televised reaction to the shooting — a raised fist as blood streamed down his face from a grazed ear — contrasted with questions over Biden's mental acuity and whether he has the stamina for four more years in the White House.
Although most polls show Biden lagging Trump in the Rust Belt states the campaign is focused on, the Democratic candidate remains "within the margin of error," the senior official noted.
"This is the strongest path, one we're focused on right now," the official added.
The narrowing map for Biden means a widening one for Trump. Some polls before the shooting showed Trump competitive in Democratic-leaning Virginia, New Hampshire and even Minnesota, which hasn't supported a Republican presidential candidate since 1972.
"When things go south, they go south everywhere," James Carville, a veteran Democrat strategist, said. "This has been the worst summer for a national party since Republicans and Watergate," he added, referring to the Congressional investigation that resulted in Republican President Richard Nixon's resignation in 1974.
Battleground state polls have favored Trump for months, and particularly since the debate in which Biden stumbled and struggled to complete sentences, while Trump repeated a series of well-worn falsehoods. None have been published since the shooting, but the assassination attempt has increased enthusiasm for Trump among his fans, which could boost Republican turnout.
Biden "would have to draw an inside straight without missing a single potential electoral vote in order to just scrape over the finish line of 270," said Republican pollster Whit Ayres, referring to a tough poker hand.
U.S. presidential elections in recent years have been decided by a narrow slice of voters in a handful of states, but the new map for Biden – if successful – would eke out a victory with just 270 electoral college votes to Trump's 268, the narrowest victory since Republican Rutherford B. Hayes won by one electoral college vote in 1876.
Nebraska is one of two states which splits their electoral college votes. (Maine is the other).
Biden won the congressional district which includes Omaha in 2020, but Republicans, who are in control of the state, are expected to hold a special session later this month to make Nebraska a winner-take-all election. That would block Biden from a single, clinching electoral vote – and could create an unprecedented 269-269 tie vote.
'Poll-ercoaster'
While some Democrats see a narrower map, many strategists and state party officials say they remain optimistic about wider wins against Trump.
"They're not any independent Democratic voters who looked at Donald Trump get shot in the ear and say, 'Oh my god, I gotta vote for this guy,'" said Bakari Sellers, a Democratic political analyst. "There's no such thing as a sympathy vote in the United States of America."
The campaign is spending $50 million on paid media in battleground states in July, and by the end of the summer those states will have more than 2,000 staffers, officials said.
Democrats had hoped earlier this year that the party could flip North Carolina, which has backed only one Democrat for president since 1976. Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris have visited multiple times, the campaign spent millions on hiring and advertising, and Anderson Clayton, the 26-year-old Democratic party chair there, has spent the year knocking on doors.
The campaign is not counting the state out, Clayton said.
"I don't ride a 'poll-ercoaster,' and I think that, you know, the investments on the ground would say that North Carolina is being prioritized just as much as we need it to be this year in order to, I think, put it on the map."
She added: "I feel like sometimes people that are so engaged in the bubble oftentimes forget to touch grass every once in a while."

The Left’s Elections ‘Fortification’ in 2024
Tumblr media
The left wants all future elections to look just like they did in 2020, and we have the blueprints to prove it. Covid-19 was the excuse Democrats used to radically transform our nation’s election systems in ways that make them less secure, less fair, and more vulnerable to mischief. Virtually all of the “temporary” changes introduced—ever-earlier voting, mass mail-in balloting, and lax penalties for fraudsters—have become codified everywhere Democrats rule unopposed. It was never about protecting Americans from the coronavirus; it was always about seizing power. If conservatives are to win in 2024, they must be all-in. In many states that will mean using the left’s tools against them, until principled patriots once again have the power to restore trust and confidence in our elections. That starts by understanding the left’s playbook for meddling with 2024. The 2020 election might fairly be called the country’s first all-mail election, given how Democrats changed our laws and procedures to encourage voting by mail simply to defeat Donald Trump. Credit the National Vote at Home Institute for that grift—whose ex-leader, Amber McReynolds, now leads the campaign to seize control of the U.S. Postal Service in order to continue the campaign for all-mail elections. Every “progressive” group supports that objective, but the left-wing NewDEAL Forum explains why in its “Democracy Playbook” for warping 2024, which the Washington Post endorsed in February. It is worth first noting the document’s authors: Michigan's Democratic Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson, who wants Michigan to adopt all-mail elections after trying the scheme in 2020, and Arizona's Democratic Secretary of State Adrian Fontes, who calls Republicans “fascists” and “election deniers”; Sandra Jauregui, a Las Vegas assemblywoman who introduced legislation in March to curb right-wing “domestic terrorism”; and Ken Lawrence, election board chairman for Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, which voted narrowly to certify the 2020 election results despite receiving numerous ballots after Election Day. NewDEAL wants every state to expand early voting and adopt no-excuse absentee voting—note that eleven of the fifteen states that require a reason to vote absentee are Republican-run—as well as automatically mail every voter a ballot without their solicitation. That is effectively adopting all-mail elections, something eight states currently do (only one of which, Utah, is Republican-run). Democrats knew they needed private drop boxes purchased with “Zuck bucks” to hoover up all of those mail-in ballots in 2020, so NewDEAL recommends making them a permanent feature of all future elections. (The true goal is to turn USPS into a mail-in ballot collection machine, with drop boxes as a stopgap measure.) NewDEAL also wants to weaken signature-matching requirements on absentee ballots because they “discriminate against voters who already face other obstacles to voting.” Any errors, the group says, can then be corrected with liberal ballot-curing laws. But that’s not all—states, they say, should also extend the deadline for postmarking absentee ballots to Election Day, guaranteeing that ballot counting will drag on for days or weeks after the first Tuesday in November. Eighteen states plus D.C. currently accept and tabulate ballots received after Election Day, in some cases up to 14 days later. They aren’t all blue states, either—North Dakota is engaged in a lawsuit with the right-leaning Public Interest Legal Foundation for its late-acceptance law. Yet this policy is “the most voter-friendly,” the group assures us, with my emphasis allowing voters to fill out and mail their ballot on Election Day. While this method could result in a longer waiting period to determine the winner of an election, it allows the most voters to participate. The parties have known for decades that voting by mail is the least-secure way of conducting elections. That was a central finding of the 2005 bipartisan Carter-Baker report. Both Team Obama and Clinton protested a recount in Florida’s 2008 presidential primary because officials wanted to hold it via mail, with Obama campaign manager David Plouffe voicing his “real deep concerns” about the “reliability and security of a mail-in vote.” One of the ugliest features of the 2020 and 2022 elections was the way counting dragged on long past Election Day, creating ample opportunities for mischief and secrecy. No one seriously thinks codifying these malpractices will encourage trust in election security—that was never the point. Democrats have put all their resources into building a gigantic ballot-harvesting machine that can register and turn out tens of millions of voters each cycle. But this juggernaut relies on unreliable voters who fail to register or show up on Election Day. So operatives have staked everything on mail-in ballots, believing they can ensure those ballots are marked and counted, and each of these policies makes their job easier. For conservatives, the goal must be to block Democrats from expanding the all-mail election project in red and purple states while also teaching Republican voters to vote early and by mail. The 2020 election proved the left’s multi-million-dollar voter registration machine’s worth, by unseating a sitting president and seizing narrow control of Congress. Restoration News has written extensively on the premium Democratic operatives place on voter registration, something conservatives gave up on doing 15 years ago. Leftists have only doubled down since then. The Brennan Center, the think tank largely responsible for devising this strategy, wants to cement the left’s advantage by automatically registering every citizen to vote. This is a key provision of the Democrats’ extreme “For the People Act” (H.R.1) that the think tank takes credit for first proposing. In practice, that means that individuals are “automatically signed up to vote,” when they “give information to agencies.” Twenty-three states and D.C. currently do this, only three of which are reliably Republican. The Brennan Center estimates this policy would add 50 million people to the voter rolls nationwide—roughly one-third of the number of ballots cast in 2020. Automatic voter registration’s “sister” policy is same-day registration (also in H.R.1), which allows individuals to register to vote and cast a ballot on the same day—often Election Day—leaving little time for officials to verify their eligibility. If that sounds trifling, consider that New York has both same-day registration and no ID requirement to vote. What is to stop a non-citizen from registering and voting under a fake name and address? NewDEAL Forum supports both of these policies while pretending they are fair and absolutely, positively won’t favor Democrats. NewDEAL also proposes pre-registering 16-year-olds to vote when they turn 18. But that is a smokescreen; the real objective is to lower the voting age to 16, something supported by the leftist group FairVote and enshrined in legislation introduced in January by Democratic Rep. Grace Meng of New York—with endorsements from Rock the Vote, Generation Citizen, and other left-wing activist groups. As if that was not enough, the Brennan Center urges states to automatically restore voting rights to felons, or even allow inmates to vote from prison. But they don’t want prisoners voting in their home states, but rather the states they are incarcerated in—giving them inroads into many southern and southeastern states such as North Carolina and Texas. The right conservative response is clear: Halt the advance of automatic voter registration laws and roll back same-day registration in Virginia, North Carolina, Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, New Hampshire, and Iowa. The left demands you expand their pool of voters for zero conservative gain. Republicans, tell them to pound sand—do not be bullied by whiny self-servers. “The number one threat to democracy is unending misinformation,” Minnesota Secretary of State Steven Simon blasted in 2022. NewDEAL Forum agrees. Until recently, the terms “misinformation” and “disinformation” were confined to warcraft and espionage—then the left turned them into weapons to use against conservatives. Living in a free society means enduring opinions you dislike, whether spread by accident or by liars. The First Amendment to the Constitution does not recognize any authority (beyond God) to define “facts” and acceptable political speech. But that is exactly what the efforts to police mis- and disinformation are: A way to dictate politically expedient “facts” by a power-hungry party, Pravda-style. Conservatives rightly booed Biden’s Disinformation Board, but they haven’t paid enough attention to Democrats’ efforts to criminalize election integrity advocates’ speeches in the states. NewDEAL wants election officials to “aggressively counter misinformation” in part by “form relationships with journalists”—doubtless those at the New York Times and not, say, Tucker Carlson—and supplying them with the “facts.” NewDEAL also wants heftier laws to prosecute voter “intimidation,” which the left may define as any effort by conservative groups to monitor election administration and polling places. Meanwhile, the Brennan Center goes much further. To counter “misinformation,” the center writes, the Department of Homeland Security’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) should spread “accurate information” through “public-private partnerships.” The center wants states to “prohibit the spread of materially false information concerning the time, place, or manner of voting with the intent to prevent voters from exercising their right to vote.” But who is to prove intent? Further, the think tank demands, states must “establish authority to prohibit individuals who violate election laws from administering elections and to decommission jeopardized equipment.” In practice, that almost certainly means barring anyone who raised objections to certifying the 2020 election from ever working in elections again. The center also proposes laws allowing “affected voters and other aggrieved parties to sue individuals... deliberately spread election falsehoods,” an act that would unleash the ACLU and other professional litigation groups upon anyone who questioned the 2020 election results. And for those electors who threatened not to certify the Electoral College results in December 2020, the Brennan Center wants to open them up to lawsuits if they fail to certify by a certain deadline. Such a law would reduce the Electoral College to an absurd formality, rather than what the Founders meant it to be: One more check to prevent tyranny. But Americans don’t want the totalitarianism the left offers. Even run-of-the-mill Democratic voters don’t consider “expanding voting rights” anything like a top priority, per a recent poll by the leftist group Data for Progress.

Conservatives have a big opportunity to be the party of free speech and liberty, but only if they are serious about battling “misinformation” laws and defending the Electoral College. House Republicans’ newly introduced ACE Act suggests they might be. Almost every provision in the bill is designed to counter or preempt these measures, from mandating photo ID for first-time mail voters to banning private funding for elections to prohibiting non-citizens from voting in state and local elections. The ACE Act is an excellent start, but it needs to go further. Conservatives are learning that saving the country means learning to out-fox the enemy in mail-in ballots and ballot harvesting. That may look ugly to many, but they should remember this: The true glory we aim for is not simply to win an election, but to restore our republic. Source link Read the full article

as a woc, it is so frustrating to see white women continuing to majorly show up for republicans, especially after roe was overturned. i really don’t know what it’ll take to progress in places like georgia, where they demonstrate time and again that they will vote red even if that party is actively harming them (especially after georgia went blue in 2020).
I will caveat this only slightly, as white women under 30 (and for that matter, white men) much more closely matched the voting patterns of other non-white demographics, and went 2 to 1 Democratic (the only white age bracket that did, I repeat, when will all these old white Republicans finally die?) But white women 30 to 65+ did go Republican again, albeit by smaller margins than white men (who are still the major problem, because obviously). They are more vulnerable to GOP scaremongering on economy/crime/etc, and have still failed to act in solidarity with marginalised women. Abortion rights did win everywhere they were on the ballot, so white women will vote for it when it is their own rights at stake, but yeah, the amount of ticket splitters who will pick a Democrat at the top of the ticket and Republicans lower down is just... why? WHY???
Anyway, looks we are yet again heading to a runoff in Georgia, so excuse me while I gouge my eyes out. Warnock is in the lead, but he will need to get every one of those votes again, especially if Senate control is at stake. In Arizona, Mark Kelly seems to have a pretty good chance of hanging on against MAGA Blake Masters. In Nevada, it is (yet again) all about the outstanding number of mail-in ballots from deep blue Clark County. If there are 100k or more, Democratic Senator Catherine Cortez Masto can probably make a comeback after losing the Trumpy Election Day vote to MAGA nut Adam Laxalt. The last number I saw was that 77% of the expected Nevada vote was in, so if there is still almost a quarter of heavily blue mail ballots, that should ride to the rescue for Democrats. That, however, is not confirmed. Clark County Elections presser in a few hours will reveal the number they expect to count and how many are outstanding. NEVADA, WHY.

OBSESSIVE TEACHINGS MASTERLIST
Tumblr media
INSIDE IS HAVOC.
For some idiotic reason, most students somehow forget what classes they signed up for three months ago or lost their schedules (I still wonder how that happens) and thus, the front office is a mess of students asking for theirs, the lines bleeding out into the hall. Given this, getting around to head to the commons will be a mission in and of itself. I'm not hating on all of them. As a freshman I was in the same place, my shaky hands and nervously stuttering voice mirroring the kids that smell brand new. Hopefully, to avoid this debacle again, they'll write the classes down. I guarantee the already exhausted looking receptionists would agree.
I almost want to tell the small, thin girl who wrings her hands 'good luck' but I guarantee she'd faint by the time I open my mouth. Instead, Ellie and I keep walking past the crowd. Poor souls.
It takes a minute or so to reach the commons, the booming echoes of chatting teenagers on their first day back is a sound like no other. The voices create a paved path any newcomer could easily follow. It dawns on me now that this will be the last time I'll hear this sound. I solemnly smile.
"I'm telling you, Dunmer is the better race."
"Only an idiot would spew such ignorant bullshit! Everyone knows Khajiit are the superior race!"
"Says the guy who could pass as a furry."
My eyebrows raise once the familiar voices are heard. Of course, they sit alone and look as normal as ever. My heart dips into my stomach when one of the two glances up and bashfully raises a hand to wave. In his awkward state, his hand barely moves.
Ellie is the first to speak. "What are you guys fighting about now?"
The boy with the long black hair speaks first. "Dumbass over here thinks Dark Elves are the best characters in Skyrim." Gabriel Ahoka is one of the oldest friends I have and if there's anything I've learned from him, it's that he's right the majority of the time. Oh, and he has beautiful hair.
"Because I'm right!" I take a seat next to the self-proclaimed judge. His name is River Adams, and I think I've been in love with him since he told me I reminded him of Hermione Granger back in the fourth grade. I smile in his direction then tuck some hair behind my ear. A nervous twitch that doesn't get past Ellie's ever watchful eyes. I refuse to acknowledge her small smirk. Instead, we both join in on the two dorks' conversation.
Ellie rolls her big brown eyes at them. "I don't see what the fuss is about. You guys take your games too seriously."
Both River and Gabriel audibly gasp at her comment.
"Fine," Gabriel huffs looking in my direction. "What about you, Lynn-ykinz?"
I don't visibly react to his nickname. It's something I've been called for years now. Though I'd like to agree with River, it's something I can't do. "Dunmers—"
"Ha!"
"— are for pussies."
"Ha!" This laugh comes from the boy sitting across from me. Beside me, River makes a small "oh" and lowers his raised fists, his hooray coming to a short and final end. I chuckle at his reaction as I pass Gabriel a solid high five.
"What are your guys' schedules?" River asks a tiny bit of gloom and annoyance coating his words.
Fortunately, most of us are in similar classes and only have to be here for a little over half the day. Due to all of us sticking to the scheduling plan, we all were able to get almost all our required course and electives done. Instead of having seven classes in one day, we all have five. By the time lunch rolls around, we're free the rest of the afternoon, meaning much longer DND matches with the nerds and more gossip and jam times with the only other female in our group.
"So meet up at the library for lunch?" I confirm once more as the morning bell rings, signally to all the student and staff that the first day is about to begin. The three people around me reply in agreement, and we head out. For the first hour of the day as well as the last, we're in different places. I'm not sure where the others are going, but I begin my journey to the library, one of my all-time favorite places.
I walk through the doors and slide over the counter, careful not to be seen but not careful enough. I plop in my seat at the front desk as someone walks up behind me.
"I don't know how many times I have to tell you to go through the gate. It's literally five feet away, Lynn!" I send a humored smile to the woman walking behind me, a rather large stack of books in her arms.
I stand up and begin taking ones off the top. "Five feet of unnecessary effort, in my opinion."
"And playing parkour in the library is?" Mrs. Gibbons says, deadpanning.
"To each their own."
She sighs but then laughs. "How was your summer, kid?"
"Pretty decent." I now have half the stack in my arms, and I follow behind her. "My mom and I went to Arizona for a few days and then Seattle for a week. We didn't have much time, but we drove through somewhere in Canada on the way back just because."
Mrs. Gibbons sets the books down on a cart where there are a couple of rows on the bottom already filled. Taking her lead, I lower my stack to the opposite side and begin placing them side by side. I presume these are outdated and to be sold or given away. "What's in Arizona and Seattle?"
A smile hits my face immediately. "There's a college in Flagstaff with a great writing program. I went on a day trip around the campus. And Seattle is just someplace we wanted to visit."
"That's so good to hear, hon! Are you considering?"
I lean back against the counter right behind me as my mentor continues to shelve books. "It's a little far."
Turning to face me, Mrs. Gibbons send me a confused stare. "I thought you wanted to get away from this god-forsaken state?"
She's right. All I've wanted since my father left was to get out of Missouri (or Misery, if anyone's asking). My mom and I left Maine a long time ago go escape unimaginable horrors, but I wasn't expecting those nightmares to follow me here. The move was negligent in getting us away from memories a selfish prick poisoned and to start new somewhere far away, where no one knows me as the girl with a deadbeat dad. In this small town, everyone knows everything. I'd like to escape, to be a complete stranger to everyone.
But Arizona is a couple of thousand miles away from the place I grew up in, my home. I feel incredibly guilty about considering a college so far away from the woman who has taken care of me on her own since I entered elementary school, who has taught me that voicing my opinion and being honest is valued more than timidity and who told me that no man should ever keep a thumb on me. The other influencers in my life are also staying around here. Ellie has been accepted in a very pretentious private school for the Fine Arts a couple of cities over while River and Gabe are thinking about community college before making the jump into university. While solitude and adventures are what I crave, everyone who keeps my sanity in control is here.
I sigh, crossing my arms. "I do, but... I'm just not sure what I really want. Like, I would kill to get out of here, but what if everywhere is worse?"
"Trust me; there's nowhere worse than southwest Missouri, hon."
Again, she has a point.
I hum in response. There a brief moment of silence as we shelve old, dusty books. "So how was your summer?"
Mrs. Gibbons smile kindly, fawning over memories I doubt. "Richie took two weeks off, and we went Fiji. It was so beautiful. The water is clear, the people are wonderful, and the food– oh my God, the food." I secretly have a small thing for Richard Gibbons, or, as his wife calls him, Richie. This "thing" isn't a crush or infatuation by any means, but when he walks into the library on random occasions, he has a natural gift to swoon anyone he encounters. I've unfortunately fallen victim to his charisma a few times. He's an image of the wealthy 1930's businessman with modern values and beliefs weaved in his fine suits. Mr. Gibbons might be my mother's age, or possibly older, but I have to say, Mrs. Gibbons is quite the lucky woman.
I chuckle at her. "I'm sometimes surprised you haven't filed for early retirement."
"Richie makes quite the cash, but how and I supposed to entertain myself when he's gone ten hours a day and then for weeks on end?" Mrs. Gibbons pauses and looks around her library, then back to me. The growing crows feet wrinkle into a smile. "And besides, I can't leave my favorite kids behind, now can I?"
"I guess you can't," I reply.
Ten minutes later, I'm back at my desk. Well, technically mine, Mrs. Gibbons, and the other kid who helps out during school hours. I've never met them, so I'm not sure who exactly they are. Anyway, the "desk" is a long bar that has a foot-high wall that stretches all the way down to the ends, creating a divider between my computer and a student or faculty member. The top of this divider is flat, forming a plane in which books or arms can be set on. Most of the time, books scatter the top, but since it's the first day, the library is not only spotlessly clean but deadly empty.
That is until someone catches my attention. Sitting at the far side of the desk, I'm able to see who is coming a mile before he steps through the open library doors. This time was no different.
With long, lean legs and a towering height walks in none other than Mr. Tom Hiddleston.
Easily being the hottest teacher of all time, I feel a blush beginning to creep up my cheeks just at the mere sight of him. Apart from his 6'2 figure, he sports tame yet still curly reddish-brown hair, divine enough for the gods, if he isn't one already. Mr. Hiddleston's cheekbones and jawline remind me of razors, which I would feel honored to be cut by. However, his eyes are a color I can't pick out. Because I've never been in close proximity, my guess, from my distance, is green, or maybe blue. The ambiguity makes him all the more interesting. I wonder if he has some long-distance vibe because as soon as I look up to see him, Mrs. Gibbons is right out front— and missing her cardigan. I raise my brows at her from the swivel chair, but her eyes are focused down and away from me. Elbowing her slightly, I nod once, doing a run over of her exposed arms and a little cleavage. Jokingly, she swats my arms and blushes scarlet. I begin to laugh, somehow holding most in when Mr. Hiddleston walks in.
"Hello, Ruby," he smiles softly. As if he wasn't attractive enough, the man has a damn British accent. It's almost as if he's trying to stick out among the hicks. "It's good to see you. How was your summer, darling?"
If her fingers weren't wrapped around the edge of the desk, I guarantee she would have fallen over. Honestly, I would have done the same. "Absolutely marvelous! Fiji is a beautiful place. I imagine you would like it there."
I make the snarky note that she left her husband out of the conversation. Thinking about it, I try to glance over at her left hand to check if anything is missing.
Zoning out the best I could, I file through the library's emails and begin writing down books teachers are requesting. Like usual, the freshmen English teachers ask for The Great Gatsby, and the sophomore teachers need 1984. Due to being taught-in-class books, I scoot back in my chair to make a beeline to the back room and take the note with me, the sticky top staying attached to my fingertips.
"Oh, Lynn?" I hear Mrs. Gibbons call out.
I just entered the back room, so I comically poked my head out. "You called?"
I seem to humor both parties, a smile etched on their face. "Could you get the copies of Of Mice and Men?" My vision glances over to the teacher behind the desk for a short moment. His tall frame leans on the counter, arms crossed on the platform, apparently indicating familiarity and comfort in the room. I catch his stare. I realize now his eyes are in fact blue.
Nodding, I duck back into the room, setting my sticky note to the side. During the time I have to gather the fifteen or so books, I allow my reddening cheeks to cool off by taking long breaths. "Don't be weird, Lynn," I whisper to myself, extending my arms out towards the collection of novels. "He's just a hot teacher. Calm yourself."
Finishing the stack, I wrap my arms around the tower, huffing as I do. I carefully whisk myself towards the open door, making a mental note to go back to my list.
Mrs. Gibbons and Mr. Hiddleston chat among themselves not too far from where I left. Now sitting in her swivel chair, typing away feverishly on her computer, and keeping a conversation going, the librarian doesn't notice my return, though the man across does. He nods in my direction. The simplest gesture is somehow insanely attractive. Mrs. Gibbons looks over her shoulder, sending me a smirk. "Oh, there you are! Thought I lost you."
I fake a small laugh. "I'm surprised I didn't; it's quite the mess back there," I tease, waddling over to the counter. "Where would you like 'em, boss?" I'm not sure who I would refer to, glancing once at Mr. Hiddleston, to Mrs. Gibbons, then back to the stack in my arms.
"Would you mind escorting me to my classroom? I tend to be clumsy at times." With a warm smile, Mr. Hiddleston glances down to Mrs. Gibbons, awaiting her approval.
At that moment, I'm not sure if I would love or hate to go. On the one hand, I get to spend time with Mr. Hiddleston, every horny teenager's dream. On the other, I'm alone with Mr. Hiddleston, someone I've never had a conversation with let alone a 'hello' until minutes ago. Knowing my luck, I will somehow embarrass myself in front of him. It wouldn't be the end of the world since I don't have any of his classes nor do I have classes near his, but God I would feel like a fool for the rest of my life.
But, hey, he's something pretty to look at.
"Yeah, I don't mind. Is that okay, Mrs. Gibbons? I promise I won't bail on you," I say.
The librarian nods her head, fixing her glasses. "Of course, go right ahead! There isn't much to do now anyway. Just make sure you're back before the bell rings."
"Don't worry, Ruby. I won't keep her long," Mr. Hiddleston reassures.
I wouldn't be opposed if you did, I think to myself. The comment makes me blush, even going to my ears. Some reasons how I could be kept late quickly flash by and I find myself wishing I had not taken Mr. Hiddleston's offer. With my skin still burning, I make my way around the front desk as he follows me on the other side. The gate is shut, and due to my arms being preoccupied, I realized I might have to swing it using my hip, nothing too abnormal. I helped out Mrs. Gibbons last year and would do the same thing when my arms were full. However, Mr. Hiddleston was not accustomed to my way of opening the gate. Just as I go to butt it, Mr. Hiddleston reaches out. In an awkward exchange, Mr. Hiddleston's hand, which was aiming to wrap around the gate, collides on my hip instead.
It's nothing terribly exciting but enough to get a gasp and a jealous exchange from Ellie, and damn right I'll take that.
He pauses barely a second before quickly retracting his arm to his side. A blush of the same shade of scarlet cover our cheeks, an awkward laugh bubbling out.
"I'm sorry," I shyly push out.
Shaking his head, now making sure his hand is on the gate, Mr. Hiddleston bashfully looks down and opens up the exit for me. "Don't be, love. It was my fault."
"If you want to be the culprit, be my guest," I reply sassily. I don't want to see if my comment amused him or caused a cringe, so I don't look up. Instead, I look around for something to make our trip easier. "Did you want me to get a cart instead of carrying them up? It's up to you."
Shrugging, Mr. Hiddleston begins taking books from the stack, leaving me with less than half. "I don't mind walking if you don't mind. I missed my morning jog, so I'm trying to compromise the best I can."
I nod and kindly smile, even though my insides and my weak muscles are upset I took on the mission. "Walking it is then. Lead the way!"
Mr. Hiddleston turns on his heel, passing a smile to Mrs. Gibbons. "Thank you for letting me steal your little helper."
"Just return her the way she's leaving," Mrs. Gibbons retorts.
"We'll see," he replies, sending me a smirk and a wink. If the man wanted to turn my knees into jelly, he already succeeded from the first introduction. Now he's just teasing my flustered heart. "Just this way, love," Mr. Hiddleston tells me. I'm too afraid to speak, so I nod, smile, and follow beside him up the staircase.
