We are pleased to introduce a new series of work by @psychemapper - available to view #online (see link in bio) . Patricia Smith, “Embedded at Beaurepaire” . My initial impression of this place was that it had sprung from the terroir of my drawings.” -Patricia Smith . For the past year, Patricia Smith has been in residence at Château Beaurepaire in France’s Loire Valley. It is “château country” here (and also wine country), and the region’s rich history and architectural marvels have penetrated deeply into her work. The French have a word, “terroir”, which is often used in the context of wine production, meaning the unique composition of the soil, combined with the topography and climate of a particular area. But the term can also refer more poetically to a “sense of place”. . In an atmosphere of almost complete isolation because of the pandemic, Smith has had an immersive experience of “terroir”. In a new development in her practice, she brings a series of drawings outside to interact directly with the landscape and the architecture, and also creates hybrid works directly onto and into the terroir. I mainly wanted to paint because I felt in my being that things would drip and percolate from the #unconscious if I spent a lot of time doing it. Intentioned awareness makes something “numinous”, and it increases with practice. It gets better with how many times the person practices it, in heightened emotional states the human will pick up more. Emotion is what gives numinosity. The debate between #thoughts and #feelings is in many aspects of life, but when the #ideas and #hopes and #dreams and #wishes and #intentions are #felt - they are #embued with #energy. That is where the #power is. That’s like the phrase #whereyourtreasureisyourheartis. We know that some people have a habit of locking in to other people’s energy and then toying with them, playing in #slight = #narcissism. But when they do that, #consciously or #unconsciously - they are missing the #treasure of themselves. #creativity is everyone’s. #work from #rome.
