Nezha blinks and suddenly he sees Xiaotian, MK, Wukong and Macaque’s son, their legacy, the star to their sun and moon, Nezha’s-

“-friend, I couldn’t ask for more!”

Wukong was wrong.

He knows what he’s fighting for now.

Through the blinding glow of Li Jing’s attack, a flurry of pink lotus petals explodes in retaliation.

Gritting his teeth, Nezha’s arms trembled under his shield. He takes one step forward, then another, and another-

His shield shatters, he takes two steps back. He barely raises his spear in time to block his father’s next blow. The shaft of his weapon is molten lava in his palms. 

He loses his spear first. Then most of his armor, then his wheels, ah he hasn’t walked in a while, with how shaky his legs are he’s surprised he’s still upright-

Then he’s not. His father’s wrath rumbles in warning. What was one more act of defiance?

And so Nezha, Third Lotus Prince, crawls up those final steps and uses the last of his strength to grab the Pagoda-Wielding General’s fluttering cape.

Being the Son of Calliope, headcanons…

PJO x Male Reader (No romantic pairing)

Warnings: None…

Summary: You’re the son of the goddesss of epic poetry and eloquence and One of the Nine Muses…

(A/n: I know I was meant to work on other stuff but I got distracted.)

(Song is unrelated to the story but it felt Muses coded so…)

You were the only half-blood at camp related to one of the Muses, specifically Calliope, the Goddesss of Epic Poetry and Eloquence.

When you had gotten to camp you used to stay in Cabin 11, even though you’d been claimed, there was no cabin for you. So you ended up bunking with Travis Stoll.

But after the war with the titans and Percy’s demands to Zeus to the gods, a cabin dedicated to the Nine Muses had been built.

You being made the counsler… not that there were any other options…

The cabin was great tho, it was decorated with statues and carvings of the muses and their symbols. There were paintings hung of their famous demigods too such as Orpheus, Hyacinthus and Linus

The cabin had a big book case with novels, plays, comedies, tradgedies, poetry. A soundproof dance studio, a soundproof music room with a bunch of instruments, a sky window to study the stars.

Basically everything associated with the Muses.

If you had a nickel for everytime someone had tried to pick you by saying ”you were their muse” or that ”you had inspired” the poem, song or novel they wrote… you’d be richer than Hades.

You were particullarly popular amongst the Apollo cabin who seemed to think you were some kind of key to overcome creative blocks. Will Solace, their counselor, needed to keep them in check since they all seemed interested in you in one way or the other.

Athena’s and Hephaestus’s cabins were also drawn to you for your creativety.

You would however end up being paired with the Apollo cabin to lead the campfire sing-alongs, you usually end up with a solo song telling the dramatic story of some greek hero.

Imagine something like ”The Gosphel Truth” from ”Hercules”, with the Apollo cabin acting as you back up singers.

As for your powers, you were far from the strongest of demigods, but you were by no means weak.

You had a natrual talent for the arts, singing, dancing, poetry, instruments, etc…

As the son of the goddess of Eloquence you could cast minor short lasting curses on people that would effect their speaking, that could for example cause them to only speak in rhymes and limericks or make them unable to finish long sentences before drifting off.

Your swordfighting style would be noted by the other campers to be quite different, while they fought normally with their swords, Percy described your style more as a ”VERY deadly and sharp dance”.

Being related to the muses you also had an aura that could induce inspiration and creativity in someone (so maybe the Apollo cabin was on to something with their interest in you).

Though that power worked both ways as you could also curse someone with creative block.

Unlike most demigods, you’re mother showed up quite often to advice you whenever you had a problem… and she didn’t come alone.

Let’s say you’re in your cabin and you’re sad after having an argument with a friend.

Well… then all the 9 statues of the Muses in the cabin come to life and start singing a pop-soul number about why friendship is important and you should make up with your friend.

It’s was quite terrifying the first few times it happened but you get used to it after a while.

Being one of the Muse’s son is pretty much like being all of their son.

(A/n 2: Sorry, this is shorter than i usually write and is more so a collection of small headcanons for a Son of Calliope!Reader than a full on fic.)

So fun fact about me that you all may not know, but may suspect given my recent reblogs, but I was a Percy Jackson kid growing up. I found the book series in elementary school, fell in love with it and greek mythology in general. The reason I say this is because after having listened to the Epic the Musical (on repeat) I now have a personal headcannon that the Apollo cabin in PJO has it down bad for Epic the Musical and are also listening to it on repeat using the cabin stereo system.

Like it started out small with some of them finding it when the first saga was released and then it snowballed from there until the entire cabin was listening to it by the time the vengeance saga came around. And I can guarantee you that in my headcannon when the Ithaca Saga came out they used the Hermes cabin to get access to wifi so they could watch the livestream premiere. They all cried during it. The Hermes kids had no idea what was going on or why the entire Apollo cabin were having a fucking break down but they were rolling with it.

I also headcannon that since they started listening to it on repeat they have begun singing different songs from the different sagas during campfire night. Some of their offerings at dinner now go to Jorge even though he's not a god but Apollo allows it because he's also started listening to the musical because literally all his kids are obsessed with it and he's got to admit that it's a banger. The Apollo kids have now also started saying things like; "Odysseus would never," when they hear the tea coming from the Aphrodite cabin. They also say "guys that's not very open arms of you."

They've also unanimously created a code phrase that is used both on and off the battlefield and during capture the flag. The code phrase? 600 strike! Which triggers the Apollo cabin like sleeper agents to all close ranks and attack the attacker of who ever called out 600 strike. This has been used in capture the flag before to the utter confusion of both teams but mainly of Percy who was the one it was called on and could not understand why the entirety of the Apollo cabin was now coming at him like he had broken one of their instruments again.

Apollo absolutely, on more than one occasion, come down from olympus while his kids are listening to Epic during the "I can't help but wonder" song just to act out the scene where Odysseus goes "Son, I'm finally home" to have all of his kids there at the time tackle him to the ground. Chiron was concerned when this first happened wondering who pissed who off but after the tenth time that month he's over it and is just letting them do their thing. It's safer that way.

While listening to Epic, I noticed an interesting pattern with how antagonists are portrayed, and how Odysseus’ interactions with them are coded.

In Epic, the monsters Odysseus faces are rarely fighting for their own sake. Polyphemus attacks Odysseus’ crew to avenge his sheep, and Poseidon destroys his ships as revenge for his son’s suffering. Similarly, Circe only threatens Odysseus to protect her nymphs. Odysseus does not kill any of these enemies, and while he is occasionally criticized for letting them go free, the overall implication is that he did the right thing by sparing them.

Then we hit the Thunder Saga, and Odysseus begins his arc as a ‘monster’ by killing the sirens. His actions here are brutal, and whether or not they are justified is, I think, up to the listener. However, it’s significant that the sirens are the first foes Odysseus faces on his journey who aren’t either defending or avenging what they love. They attack unprovoked, and while Odysseus’ method of execution is gory, he is never punished for it by other characters within the narrative. Apollo is the only one to protest, and even he is swayed easily when Athena says (among other things) that the sirens were “trying to do him worse.” The sirens attacked first, and while Odysseus’ response was ‘monstrous,’ his crew obeyed his commands and he was not challenged or ostracized for giving said commands. He is only treated as a monster when he yields to Scylla, who also attacked without provocation.

Thus, in Epic, the monsters fighting to protect or avenge their loved ones are protected by the very story - killing them may be more convenient, but it isn’t the answer. However, the monsters who attack without provocation, for their own amusement or satisfaction, do not receive such respect. Killing them is acceptable, and cooperating with them is monstrous.

By this logic, Odysseus is justified in his actions, however atrocious. He attacks to protect his family, and therefore deserves mercy.

The suitors, on the other hand…

Epic "God Games", but is Shang Qinghua (Athena) trying to convince the System (Zeus) to release Tianlang-jun (plot device? Something like, "this man must be freed to raise his son and prevent Shen Qingqiu from making the self-fulfilling prophecy of leading CQMS to destruction?")

I definitely think of Mu Qingfang for Apollo (the dead sirens? Young disciples fallen in battle, A little bit of his line of thought) and Wei Qingwei for Hephaestus, I also feel like they share those vibes - I'm definitely VERY skeptical about Aphrodite and Ares, I mean, Liu Qingge is very Ares coded undeniably, but we should remove all the romantic side with Aphrodite... yeah, removing that, Aphrodite could easily be Qi Qingqi. Although I do have my doubts but, yea

Hera? Shen Qingqiu (Shen Jiu, in this scenario). Instead of "never once has he cheated on his wife", Shang Qinghua would say "never once has he abandoned on his wife". Shen Qingqiu's response is immediate: release him :D

And I think that, well, the lightning and the electrocution is a very traumatic thing for Shang Qinghua from what we know about his death... Something like a punishment protocol but he doesn't let himself be defeated because, little Binghe! Sweet little Bunhe! He needs to have a better future for him!!

Day 3: Sci-fi ft. Sentient Robot!Artemis and Iphigenia and some AU ramblings once again!

(Everything for this month will be very quick and not rendered most likely! So please take my doodles <3 )

SCI-FI AU:

I’ve talked a little about this AU before :D BUT I will talk more about it now that I’m given the chance to LMAO

This piece is taking place during the Iphigenia in Aulis equivalent in this AU, where Artemis is demanding her as sacrifice to allow them to invade Troy. I actually do have extensive lore for this but I’m going to not elaborate on it here as much because I will do that as it’s own post when I flesh out/finalise the gods’ designs. But it boils down to: the gods require offerings (usually festivities, prayers, animal sacrifices, etc.) if they are to power your region/district. Different regions have respective gods that they tend to worship, and thus are in charge of powering the tech that runs in that area. 95% of the technology/anything in this world is connected to the gods, and very seldom are there physical things that are innately human. But basically, Agamemnon pissed off Artemis like in the epic cycle, but instead of your run of the kill animal sacrifice she demands Iphigenia as sacrifice. Artemis has stranded the armies by cutting off their transportation technology as well as a shit ton of other stuff. I will likely find a way to end this like in the Cypria where Artemis spirits Iphigenia away because that’s my girl ever Iphigenia ilysm

Anyways more lore for the AU in general! Troy is an INSANELY well defended city as is nearly impossible to hack into because it has such special protection from Apollo. So the Trojan Horse in this AU is probably more akin to the Trojan Horse Virus we have in the modern day 😭

Most people live on very normal lives, the ones with the actually cool cyber stuff are all part of military forces. There is a heavy mix of close quarters and long range combat, since the armour that the army wears is very effective against most long ranged weapons people will tend to take on close quarters combat.

Snipers are viable but very VERY difficult to train for. Because there are so few viable places to hit at long range, the things that snipers shoot might not even be bullets

I’m thinking again of the demigod children who are more robotic parts than normal human… Helen’s LOOKS very human but it’s almost too beautiful. And her robotic ability is her uncanny ability to imitate voices. When she was in Sparta she was part of the special spy forces often tasked with undercover missions purely for her voice imitation ability

I want flashy glowing helmets so you will probably get flashy glowing helmets at some point in the future.

I mentioned last time Odysseus was some sort of mechanic who was the best mechanic among the Achaeans. Well, throwing in Diomedes again he’s the tester for all of Odysseus’ batshit crazy experimental weapons and gadgets. A bomb that disconnects/powers off all technology in the blast radius? Sure it might disconnect 80% of Diomedes’ armour and weapons but this is Diomedes we’re talking about!! He’s gonna beat the shit out of you without his tech regardless lmaooo😂 the newest armour that might be slightly volatile? Sure, Diomedes will wear that shit and come back no matter how much that armour tries to kill him. A cyber horse that Patroclus didn’t have time to tame (adjust the code for)? Diomedes will ride that noble steed into battle

ooooh for ur epic au i love the idea of the other winners as the gods! i think scott - aphrodite works really well with his focus on the social aspect of the game, and martyn - ares fits too bc of mean gills, and him just generally being pretty aggressive! cleo - hephaestus is a good match for personality and watcher!grian - zeus absolutely fucks. pearl and scar don’t fit as neat with apollo or hera, but i do know scar would absolutely rock the disco look lmao

Grian as Zeus: Watcher, maker of the games, first winner as the technical eldest god, “thunder bringer” smites Scott to end Last life

Cleo as Hephaestus: “Trust is not given its forged….. he sacrificed his own cohorts” loyal to their day one allies until they do something to break that trust (most notably Big B killing her in last life) and fire (arson)

Martyn as Ares: literally what you said about Mean gills and Martyn in the life series in general, the ending of limlife is so Ares coded

Those were the ones I was absolutely sure of

For Aphrodite I was between Scott and Pearl

Scott because as you said, he is very social in the games and is one to love his allies wholeheartedly (man can’t go one season without sacrificing himself to a friend when he is able to) plus one head canon I’ve seen is that the watchers are unable to feed on Scott because he’s just so full of love for his allies (flower husbands, the healing GGGs, mean gills, etc) but even love can be ruthless when need to be

Pearl on the other hand is more so the opposite focusing more on how she knows the pain of being alone “but let her die of a broken heart… let him feel the pain that his mother felt and rot” the winner of double life, the one series where everyone was meant to have someone, she was scorned by everyone around, rejected by her bound, called wicked by people who could have been friends and in the end died without her one true companion, Tilly. But in the same with the following games, she is in a way “healing”. From then on she is never alone (nosey neighbors, mounders, 4Gs and the adopted strays) and makes sure her allies know that she will stand with them

Scar I did have trouble with placing him but honestly him as Hera is a fantastic idea. Like Hera in god games comes off as very carefree in a way but still a threat which is kind of how Scar plays the games (I’m mainly thinking of wild life with the bamboozlers and the rollercoaster) plus the “never once has he cheated in his wife” makes me think of Athena!Gem saying that and Scar just gets flashbacks to double life and the “secret soulmates” which becomes infinitely more funny/angsty since Grian is Zeus

Plus yes he would absolutely rock the disco look I mean just look at his limited life skin

But yeah Apollo is the one I can’t really place with a life winner

I think lamb is perfect to picture the change of character ody experience, at first they have a pure heart, merciful! But with time and pain the old lamb dies and the ruthless monster is born.

(Fun fact this is more in line with my headcanons for goat but is time to let lamb shine🔥)

Idk I headcanons leshy like a big chaotic beast yes but also like the actual legend of leshy, specifically the ones where he's more of a neutral god that coexist with humans but kills them if they take too much from nature. Also bro get blinded too

Heket as Circe

I love a strong woman that only cares about protecting the people she loves the most, I think Circe is the perfect choice

Also Circe allures men in her palace, cooks for them and then she transforms them into food basically haha is funny in my head.

Kalamar as Poseidon

Before you tell me "but he's pathetic! " yes he is and Poseidon is as well!

I like it to be an escalation of confidence to cowardness. He starts all angry and at the end he's crying in the shower.

Luka is Sun-Coded, Why the Snake has Time-Related Powers, and What the Future Might Hold for His Character

There’s been some back and forth whether Luka is represented by the sun or the moon, with most people seemingly on the side of him being moon-coded.

I have to disagree. More below the cut.

The name Luka is usually translated as “bringer of light.” This is of course the most common translation of his name. In This post, it’s explained that his name is also a Serbo-Croatian word for harbor or port. (Another win for my “the Couffaines are Balkan-Romani" headcanon).

I would also like to point out his hero name, Viperion, is a portmanteau of Viper and Hyperion. Hyperion was a Greek Titan, and along with his son Helios, was a personification of the sun. Sometimes the two Solar deities were conflated. It has also been suggested that the name Hyperion actually reads as “Apollo,” another Greek solar god. In fact, Apollo’s name has been suggested that it should be read as Hyperion. Also, Apollo famously has a younger twin sister, Artemis, a lunar goddess. Hyperion’s name translates to “He who goes before,” which is an apt name for Luka’s hero form.

Famous romantic poet John Keats wrote two unfinished epics on the subject of Hyperion. The second poem he wrote, titled The Fall of Hyperion: A Dream, was published after his death. It is a prequel to his first poem about Hyperion. The prequel is about his personal quest for truth and understanding. More on the topic of truth later on in this essay.

On a more scientific note, the theorized massive star that went supernova and created the our solar system is often called Coatlicue, who was the mother of the Sun in Aztec mythology. She is depicted as a woman wearing a skirt of snakes, and even her name translates to [she who has] the skirt of snakes. An aspect of this goddess was known as “snake woman”, and she was considered a very motherly figure.

Anarka went supernova and destroyed her music career and relationship with Jagged after she fell pregnant. Luckily, she built a wonderful new life for her twins, and The Liberty is a safe harbor for them and all their friends, just like our Sun and solar system. Remember, Luka can also be translated as harbor.

It’s also worth noting that one of Saturn’s moons is named Hyperion. Yes, I know, a moon, but hear me out. Hyperion’s orbit is extremely chaotic, and unpredictable, a quality that is needed in order to end time loops. I had a lovely dialogue with another person on the implications of that in the notes in this post.

Now onto part two: Why the Snake Miraculous has time related powers. It has been suggested by fans that we don’t need two time-related Miraculous, and Snakes are mythologically healers (Think Hermes and his caduceus), so the Snake should have healing powers. It’s a compelling argument, but I disagree.

I’ve touched on this topic before, but it bears repeating. There is a misconception that Wayzz was originally the leader of the Kwamis, and Sass was retconned to be leader at a later date. This is untrue. For one, Kwamis cannot leave the Miracle Box without an owner, so Sass is stuck in there with the rest of the Kwamis. Secondly, in season 2’s Sandboy, the episode where we meet the rest of the Kwamis, Sass is the one calling all the shots. Tikki and Plagg even defer to him. Furthermore, Wayzz was chosen by Master Fu because his power is Protection. Narratively, it makes more sense for an un-evolved character who is terrified of his past choices to choose the power of Protection, as opposed to Sass’ power of learning from past mistakes, and change through choice.

I dare say that they made a point of Marinette wearing the Turtle Miraculous in the season 5 finale due to a planned character arc. I predict this character arc is one where she learns to not be so overprotective of Adrien, or one where she needs to learn to accept the help of others and not put up such a shell and be so controlling. Or both, even.

Anyway, back to Snakes. I made a previous post about how the main three kwamis, Tikki, Plagg, and Sass are a reference to (a very simplified) Hinduism, with Tikki being Brahma (god of creation), Plagg as Shiva (god of destruction), and Sass as Vishnu (god of preservation). Shiva and Vishnu are both symbolized by snakes, but I think it’s important to note that one of Vishnu’s mounts is Shesha, a primordial snake deity of creation. It is said that when Shesha uncoils, time moves forward and creation takes place; when he coils back, the universe ceases to exist. Shesha’s name translates to “he who remains”, as even when the world is destroyed, Shesha remains as he is. It doesn’t take much thought to see how this relates to the Snake Miraculous and the power of Second Chance.

I had originally theorized that Second Chance erases the entire universe in order to reset, but the Paris Special brought the concept of a multiverse, and simple logic declared this untrue. No, I believe that Second Chance erases EVERY multiverse. Terrifying stuff.

And of course, there is the Snake Miraculous’ bracelet form of a serpent biting its own tail, an Ourobos. Ourobos is a symbol used all over the ancient world to represent various things, most notably of cycles, such as life, death, and rebirth. This feels like the most obvious reason for the Snake to have Second Chance.

Of course, we cannot ignore the elephant in the room… or the snake that swallowed the elephant a la the python in the beginnings of famous French novella The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. The dominant religion in most of the western world is Christianity, and snakes have a reputation for being evil. But I think there’s more to the story ML is presenting to us.

In the season 5 finale, we are presented with a perfect utopia, an Eden, if you will. We can all agree this is not going to last, and all the glitter is not gold. Maribug’s web of lies, Lilamoth knowing the Truth, Adrichat being left in the dark. It will all come undone sooner or later.

Which is why I propose that it is Luka who helps Adrien discover the Truth. There are some academics who believe humanity wasn’t truly born until Eve tasted the forbidden fruit of knowledge and left the Garden of Eden. It’s very poetic that a Snake named Light would present Adrien with the Truth. Remember Keats’ epic poem Hyperion about searching for Truth.

And of course, it needs to be reminded that Ladybug’s Lucky Charm CANNOT bring back a sentimonster after the amok is purified or destroyed. But you know what CAN bring back a sentimonster? The Snake’s Second Chance. Adrien and Luka have unlimited chances to figure out how to sever the connection between Adrien and his amoks.

Remember also, the point of Second Chance is to end the time loop. This all goes hand in hand with my theory that ML is a 15-year time loop of Wishes, and Gabriel made at least one, if not multiple Wishes in the past.

Of course I could be completely off the mark and they made Luka a Guardian for no reason, and Adrien will never amount to anything other than being Ken to Maribug’s Barbie.

I had another thought

@clea-nightingale I had another PJO and Epic the Musical thought as I am now prone too these days. And I would just like to say that Percy Jackson and Annabeth Chase are the Odysseus and Penelope of the PJO world they are just written in a different font and modernized and I will not be convinced otherwise. Those two are Odysseus and Penelope coded and that's just the facts of the situation.

I would also bet money that after having listened to the entire soundtrack on repeat the entirety of the Apollo cabin has come to the same conclusion, and suddenly why Percy is able to get away with so much shit make a lot more sense to them. Percy can get away with as much as he can because not only is he Poseidon's son but he also reminds all the gods of Odysseus who was the biggest throne in the gods sides. It's also why no matter what Percy does or says Poseidon does not get pissed of at him and actual backs him up half the time because a) not only is that his son but b) the last time he pissed someone off who acted the way Percy does was Odysseus and that's not an encounter he's looking to repeat. Because he's fully aware that Percy will do what Odysseus did only it will somehow be worse. Much, much, worse.

Percy being like Odysseus is also why Hera took Percy instead of Annabeth during the beginning of the Hero of Olympus books. She knew if she took Annabeth Percy would be on Mount Olympus the next day killing gods with the same clam, calculated, and deadly accuracy that Odysseus had when killing the suitors.

Side note: It’s also why Athena never actual did anything to Percy even before he started dating Annabeth. It was because she would look at him and all she would see was her best friend before the world made his light go dark.
