2023 art summary~

And my word count for this year (at least of published material) is just shy of 60k! Nowhere near my 200k words from last year but for all the writers block I suffered through I'm very proud!

This year I felt like my skills with lighting have improved dramatically. I've found a new favorite lighting scenario of having a dark background with a hint of light coming off of illuminated parts. It's very nice and I've def overused it and I don't care. I've also gotten soooo much better with monster/creature design. Making Elemon has been such a wonderful experience for me and has been a fun creative outlet (and a nice dumping grounds for oc designs that I don't know what to do with lol)

Next year I want to do some dabbling in animation, as well as refining my painting skills more.

My new years resolution is to try posting process videos on youtube so I can babble about my ocs/work and get over my stage fright.

CHRONICLES OF WONDER EP 3 SPOILERS

You’re Violet, you’re talking to your friend (your partner in law) after months of watching over the man who had tormented you and your families mortal lives soul. He tells you that you’ve forgotten something. That you’ve all forgotten something. You’re confused, Epros wouldn’t do that to you. Why did you forget? When he offers to bring it back. Asks you if you want to remember them. You do. It isn’t a question for you. You need to remember. And then suddenly the memories of something from years ago are bubbling back to the forefront of your mind.

You’re a little drunk, (had just seen the place you would loose your mortal life) but okay. You’re sitting in this avians nest and watching them as they drunkenly ask you if you’re going to stay again. (If you would really do that for them. If you really care that much.) And you smile at them and you tell them that you will, that that’s what best friends are for. (They’re your best friend, how did you forget them, they were your best friend (maybe they were more than that, maybe they were always more than that)) And they wobble over to you and sit in front of you in their nest and they thank you for accepting their tittle, for admitting that your best friends, for admitting that you care. (They’re so drunk, they’d never admit this sober you both know that. You both know they’re bad at expressing their care, it’s sweet to see that they care). And you tell that that you wouldn’t have it any other way, that you’re glad they’re your best friend and that they deserve a best friend. (That they deserve to be cared for, they deserve to be happy, they deserve to be loved)

And then you’re back. Sitting in your friends office, wrangling with the memories of someone so important to you that you lost

thinking once again about malitae and i am-

Malitae who ascended during the war, the god-killing war. who's existence was seemingly kept from Enderian entirely- despite being on her court. Only hearing of Rakai, and only properly knowing and talking to Vikesh and Epros. Malitae who is an end god and maybe doesnt know why (maybe the resets took the knowledge or they remember and its just too personal to tell the island crew) but knows they shouldnt go in the overworld, the idea leaving them very hesitant (they can't leave 'yet')

and all i can think about is how vikesh and epros were almost definitely protecting the new god, only very recently ascended at the worst time, and how they probably told them of the war- the gods side of it, and of the fact that the war-monger is the major god of the overworld, who would know if they were there.

character impressions centross

First impression: I actually couldn't stand them at first! I thought he was needlessly melodramatic and not a very compelling villain. Maybe part of that comes down to me being an archival viewer of S1; it seems like some of his POV from then wasn't saved. But then I started watching S2 and went ohhh. and then the prison and castle arcs happened and i went ohhhhhhhhh.

Impression now: Brain go brrrrrrr. I grab him on either side of his head and go "You. You my beloved exploration of evil and devotion and justice and redemption and love and forgiveness and family. You dumbass jackass angst-riddled sorry sack of a person. You search for love without knowing what it looks like until you do. You." Actually not my favourite Fable character, that's a tossup between Wolf and Ari, but definitely the one I have the most Big Thoughts and Feelings TM about. In case you couldn't tell lol.

Favorite moment: Might be recency bias but I think it's got to be their talk with Haley in An Oracle's Truth. The subtleties, the looming tragedy, the foreshadowing that his death isn't quite the end, i rotate it in my head like a microwave. Also literally any breakfast stream.

Idea for a story: I actually have two that i'm in the process of brainstorming! One that revolves around him and oscar post-cathedral, when the loss of innocence is inevitable and you don't know what on fucking earth to say. And another that's a wolftross hurt/comfort twoshot about nightmares.

Unpopular opinion: S1 centross isn't very interesting. Killing a bunch of people isn't compelling to me; trying to be a person again afterwards is.

Favorite relationship: Can I cheat and say all of castle trio? The three of them together work so well, emotionally and narratively. They can all serve as another one's foil and parallel at the same time and they're idiots and i love them.

Favorite headcanon: In the first part of S3, their focus on Epros was him trying to find a new god to worship. Because he couldn't in good conscience worship Enderian anymore, but he didn't know how to function in a non-religious worldview. And then Epros let them down and the whole thing fell apart.

Sometimes I remember how the Aether was. I still lurked back then but I talked to more people. Destruction and Mind visited Space a lot and we all chatted. Until Creation killed Space. The Aether fell almost immediately. I couldn’t keep it together.

When Creation killed Mind I had many more years of experience of being who I am. I could keep the End together because I’ve been through this before. I’m sorry that I couldn’t help Space and his realm. Thankfully, Memory, her daughter, and Space and Space spouse’s son escaped.

I loved the Aether truly. Both the End and Aether are my homes. I’ve heard Mind tell Princess Orchid that the End is always home whenever she needed it. Space told his spouse the same thing.

Random writing moment as I'm watching "Light of a crescent moon" :D

"If ⟟ could give myself up over and over to see you live my son ⟟ would" Enderian whispered to no one in particular but also to Epros as she looked to the stars in the end.

She knew there was little chance to contact Vidkesh, to thank them for saving her son. Being among the void, Epros had said he had lived, that he was ok and that he was safe.

Voi knew she loved him, that she was so strong for saving him and still facing her brother.

She still missed him, being able to talk to him and being able to see her nephew at times.

But she also saw Violet at times, how he was doing after learning that Fable had slain him, how he watched over his family and stayed for them.
