just to offer another perspective re: the ot3 poll from someone who is a fan creator - i fully interpreted that poll to be about tagging your own creations
To give a specific example of my interpretation - if you ship an ot3 and draw two of the characters together, do you/should you tag the ot3 when the 3rd isn’t present?
And in that above example (which i think is a completely valid interpretation of the question tbh) it would be my opinion that it’s at minimum a fandom faux pas to tag a ship that is not (entirely) present As The Op, because that fan creation will end up in the main tumblr tag
(Just like it’s frowned upon to tag ships As The Op on a post that’s not about them, in an attempt to get “reach”)
I’m saying this because i usually find you to be someone whose fandom opinions align closely with mine, and thought your response was a massive overreaction, until I came to the conclusion that you and i (and, i would guess, you and the person you were in direct response to) were looking at tagging from 2 different perspectives
I think it’s fair to say spam tagging/reach tagging As An Op on tumblr is rude behaviour (and frowned upon) AND that any reblog tags added after the fact are fair game as they do not effect the post’s reach in fandom tags + are largely for organisational reasons
(Caveat being there are few ot3 ships with greater reach and popularity than any pairings within, but i know if i was scrolling through the Parker/Hardison/Elliot tag and seeing only Parker/Hardison fanworks I would find that disappointing and even irritating yk?)
I'd agree, if you're the one creating the art in the first place, and it's exclusively for the pair and NOT the OT3, and you have no intention of it being even a part of the OT3, then that's mistagging, and mistagging is a problem.
On the other hand, if you ship the OT3 and your pairing fanwork is made with the OT3 in mind even if you've only done part of it (like, you've drawn spock and bones BUT your drawing is specifically of them while they're part of mcspirk in your head, and the third person just happens to not be currently present), then you're still within your rights to tag it as such (especially because you're still posting the creation to your blog and filing).
Poly relationships don't stop being poly just because only two people are in the room, y'know? As someone who has both written poly relationships and been in them in real life, when I was physically with just one partner it's not like suddenly I was somehow exclusively dating that person because the other person wasn't with us at the time. We were still a trio. And if/when I choose to write about an OT3 (or if I could draw, when I would choose to draw them), if I tag my own work with the OT3, because it is intended to be artwork of a part of the OT3 as a part of the OT3, even if I don't mention the third person (ie, the third person is 'not in the room') then "rude" should not be a descriptor used.
So sure, it may be annoying to you if someone makes art with only two of the OT3 and tags it with the OT3 (in general), but unless you're sure that they're purposefully mistagging it for "reach" and not just making art (including writing etc) for part of their OT3, calling it blanket rude is still not a great way to approach it, and possibly says some stuff about how one views poly relationships in general. And the poll specifically stated "if you ship an OT3" which I take to mean the art (including writing etc) is for the OT3 but only 2 of them are currently present, not "the OTP is the intention and OT3 is tagged for reach." I could be wrong, of course!
#asks#fandom#anon asks#I do understand where you're coming from on reach#and I agree doing it JUST for reach isn't appropriate tagging#because in that case it's NOT even PART of the OT3 and isn't intended to be part of it at all#just as someone who has shipped a lot of OT3s#and someone who's poly in real life#it makes me sad to think I might be seen as not really poly or not really in a poly relationship#just because only one partner is present#which like yeah fiction isn't 1:1 translation to real life of course obviously#but that doesn't mean it has no interaction ever#and how people tag has no morality attached to it#but saying how someone else tags is rude IS a judgment#but saying people shouldn't tag an OT3 they ship when they've made art of part of it as a part of it...#and like shipping aside look at it from a similar situation#If I show an airplane cockpit from the inside and tag it airplanes#are you also considering it rude or a faux pas because I didn't show the whole plane?#are you upset that when you went looking for planes you saw an airplane cockpit?#Or do you consider the airplane cockpit part of the plane even when you can't see the whole plane?#because if you can say well of course not obviously the cockpit is part of the plane#then why is it different if someone tags 2/ 3 of an OT3 with the full OT3 name#it's still a part of the whole to them#it's also not like it's forcing YOU to tag it the same way#so idk idk something to think about#I appreciate you reaching out either way

August 27 - Magazine  | @into-the-jeggyverse | wc: 540 Not super Jegulus centered but...
James picked up knitting and crocheting because it's something relatively mindless that occupies their hands. They don't do it at school or outside of the dorms (though it would help them get through their classes) aside from the occasional quidditch game they attend (though they usually get more distracted by the plays) because there's the whole thing where 'masculine people shouldn't do girly things like crocheting' and 'if you knit, you must be an old woman' and they don't want to have that spread around.
That being said, ever since they took up crochet and knitting, their childhood friend Remus has been the subject of many of their projects. Yes, they make things for themself -- especially in later years when they start experimenting with mesh shirts and layered clothing -- but the main person they make for is Remus.
James makes all of Remus's sweaters. They memorised a bunch of patterns that they know he likes, and they work with him to figure out colours that Remus wants. It's to the point where all of the sweaters and sweater vests in Remus' trunk were made by James, with the exception of one or two that friends have bought him, and Remus loves their sweaters. They're comfortable, made of a soft yarn, fit him just right no matter what, and they're more Remus than any store bought ones he can find (not to mention free, good quality sweaters aren't cheap and James lives making them for him).
Needless to say, whenever someone makes fun of Remus' sweaters or him for wearing them, he's always going to James to comfort them because they take any insults to their creations as an insult to them. There have been times when Remus has had to physically force James' hook or needles into their hands for them to pick up the hobby that they love so much again.
James' friends have just come to accept it, cone to understand that James is still paying attention to them even when it seems like they're focused on whatever project they're working on -- Remus and Regulus, after they started dating, will carry around balls of yarn, scissors, and a set of James' favourite sizes of hooks and needles in case they need a breather and they don't have their current WIP.
They make their friends things too, usually fun tank tops and amigurumis for the girls (skirts and dresses after Lily finds an old woman's pattern magazine for them), hair accessories for Sirius, random things that Pete, Barty, and Evan ask for. For Regulus, they've made him a sweater once but decided that they only want to make those for Remus, they'll make crochet flowers and blankets for him (because he's always cold) and Regulus loves it.
It just becomes a fact that James does fiber art, they love making things, and they now have a large audience for them to make for (which was always a struggle, they make things much faster than Remus could need them).
They later find out that Remus still has some of the first things that they made: ill-fitted, wonky things with weird tension that are falling apart both due to use and an inexperienced creator. That fact alone makes their heart swell.

Neil Gaiman
I think this is an important lesson on the concept of removing the art from the artist, as many people are already saying to do about Gaiman. “Sure,” they say. “What he did was wrong, and there is no excuse. But his books did nothing wrong.”
I know I’m hardly the first person to make the connection between the character Madoc and Gaiman himself—especially since the Vulture article lays it out very clearly. To those of you who haven’t read the article or Sandman, the character Richard Madoc is a writer who loses inspiration after a successful debut novel and receives a naked woman (Calliope, one of the Nine Muses) as a gift from another author, who he proceeds to rape continuously as ideas flow to him. Madoc collects awards, fans and general fame until Sandman punishes him in a poetically justified manner. This story allegorises the painful experiences of women worldwide who are sucked dry of their energy, souls, lives, ideas, love, identity and used by men who have no care for the impact their actions have on their victims. It was a beautiful and apt depiction of the inhumane act of vampirism and violation and painted such an accurate picture of the many weapons wielded against women that I could not help but believe the author is someone who cares very deeply about women and the downtrodden. Right? Right?
Why is this story particularly important? And why does it lead to a further discussion about separating art and artist?
Well, anyone with any amount of critical thinking skills can draw a handful of parallels between Madoc and Gaiman. They’re both successful artists, consider themselves feminists and have made announcements to that effect, and ultimately fail to uphold the moral standards of the works they publish. And both of them have thoroughly misled the world at large about their own natures. In fact, according to the Vulture article, people likened Gaiman not to Madoc, but Sandman himself, as they are both considered an “inexhaustible fountain of story”.
So how can I ever hope to separate creation and maker? How can I ever continue to support the works of someone who KNOWS. Because he does. He knows exactly what the impact of his work is, knows enough about the moral pillars of our society to accurately represent the interpersonal complexities of sexism, sexual assault and feminism played out in his works. How can I ever consume more media from a man who has made a mockery of our daily struggles, who reaps the awards and the glory and the money from a parody of the uphill battles every woman fights every day to assert her identity in a world created to pander to everyone else?
I refuse to read fake feminism from an anti-feminist, refuse to read about the horrors of sexual assault from a sexual assaulter. I refuse to support this man in any endeavours he takes. I own no copies of any of his books and don't intend to get any. I’m not saying to burn your books—they're your property, and you've already gotten them, treat them with respect—but as someone whose most awaited show release since 2022 has been the second season of The Sandman, I don’t think I’ll watch it now, and if I do it’s to support the artists, and I’ll probably pirate it, to be honest.
All this to say, there is no feasable way to remove the art from the artist. The art is an extension of the artist and even if we remove all economic and social advantages creators get from their content from the equation, we’re left with the stark realisation that when an author has personal morals that inherently clash with his works, it’s because he measured those morals and found them wanting for portrayal, therefore choosing to pretend at being a good person to achieve his goals and sell his trade. And I’m not so deprived of perfectly good literature that I’ll swallow my pride and sense of morality to take in the ironic preaching of a man who doesn’t believe in his own gospel.

OH!! SE LLAMA TOMMY´S STICK ALAN! :0
I thought it was just a Tang.
And I kept watching your story, and I just found out DARK IS ALIVE HERE! (llora de felicidad <3 <3)
What I mean is, Chosen One was taking care of Orange, not knowing that her father was her own creator.
Alan, like a mother bear, goes to the city of Ournet and wreaks havoc (destruction, chaos, etc.) until he finds his baby, Orange.
I imagine Alan makes a noise to call Sec. (Kind of like what mammals would do with their babies.)
Would it be cool, maybe, to have a call that only Sec could hear?
The cursor call XD
OH! Imagine that, since they are Alan's creation, both Chosen One and Dark hear the call. But Dark ignores it because it's annoying. But Chosen One hears it better and realizes it's his creator calling the same baby he's holding, who also starts crying.
It's actually labeled as #selkie sticks au in reference to the myth of selkies! I realize now that's maybe not as commonly known as I believed ^^' I think someone a long time ago recommended the idea under that term.
and YEAH that would be interesting... though Chosen would probably try to hide SC! They're very distrustful of Alan and would believe he'd hurt SC in a similar way!
Tumblr media
Of course, that wouldn't be what happens when he finds them; he's very gentle! This is a baby, after all.
I've definitely thought about the two raising SC under the impression that they were abandoned/orphaned though! Especially since I headcanon the outernet doesn't really like hollowheads due to chosen and dark's actions.

Critter!verse is so interesting... i love the idea of dream and nightmare being animal-like because it makes so much sense.. but also you've said alot of vague things about critter!ink that is ALSO very interesting.. like how often are people trying to maim this guy(besides error) ?? is he not as close with dream or blue to let them teach him to spar correctly?
ok ok- first- THANK YOU FOR THE ASK!!!! ive been on a good handful of critter!verse tangents so and needed this lol. Anyways!
Critter Ink is a demi-god, same with error. They don't feel compelled to have casual interactions with people and will actively avoid having any interactions with in-codes. Blue, as someone who's not only multiverse aware, but is also an active participating member in the multiverse (both on a physical scene as well as politically. More on that in my future ramblings, I'm sure) gets some exception to that rule, especially because Ink finds Blue genuinely kind without an ulterior motive and is intrigued by it.
It's not that he finds himself as above other people, but rather he sees his duties as above other people. So when he's not assisting in creation or removing someone unauthorized from an in-code AU, any interactions he might have is not of his own volition. A lot of people in the multiple think of Ink and Error as THE gods of that multiVerse (even though the legitimate gods of the critter multiverse are the Creators and none of the various immortals are making any move to hide this) and legitimately believes that they'll gain something from overpowering him. And whilst they're too much of a pussy to actually attempt this with Error, they think because Ink is supposed to be a protector and benevolent or whatever, that they'll just, I don't know, roll over and die. Obviously that's not the case as he beats their asses, but I digress.
Dream enjoys ink's company, especially during the rare moments where the both of them are in a calm, stable situation. But with that comes an expectation of rest so they wouldn't do anything physical together like sparring. Blue, on the other hand would absolutely try and train with ink, but ink wouldn't be comfortable training with someone because he himself acknowledges that he has little skill with using his offensive magic gently along with also feeling like learning how to do so would be a waste of his time would take too much patience and concentration that he really doesn't have.
All in all, Ink isn't super close with anyone, really. He does consider Blue and Dream actual friends- and thats big for Ink! But they'll still keep to themself for the most part. As a part of what I deem the 'Multiversal maintenance crew' they're in no way obligated to interact in any way, shape or form, so choose to use his limited free time to just be in the same room as his friends is his ONLY form of love language. I don’t think other people see it that way and it hurts Blue to hear how others prrceive his odd friend.
Hope this is solid! I have the lest amount of things thought of for Ink so thos is significantly less detailed than the dude deserves but I plan of writing my ref on him soon!
Again, thank you for the ask!

Tbh I love solid clichés and dynamics. Tell us your favorites!!
one of my favorites is technically the reverse. instead of bigger resuser and smaller resusee, I love when the one doing the compressions is visually smaller or appears weaker then the one being resuscitated. it's fucking hot. one of my favorite personal fantasies that I truly need to write out one of these days follows that cliche post. volunteer nerd with a sleeper bod x golden quarterback twice his size. need I say more?
I also love exploring male and platonic dynamics, just cause we never get to see much of them in media or resus communities. my gay aroace ass eats that shit up and down.
like give me (male) childhood best friends, there's no shame between them, so when it comes to own giving the other mouth to mouth or working their chest, there's no hesitation or shame. you'd expect one guy to get weird about "kissing another", cause every piece of media out there has to make it "weird" for guys to give one another cpr or any other form of intimacy. but not here, not in my fantasies. one is giving the other the most passionate mouth to mouth you can imagine, cause that's his best friend, and he is not dying today.
or just. roommates too. something about knowing the intimate life of someone, living with them, sharing your space and time with them, whether or not you are friends, and now you're trying to keep them alive, is always fascinating. especially cause if they die, you will live with a ghost until you leave that house. the person you got used to mingling with is no more.
I love chronically ill x healthy dynamics too. cause I myself am chronically ill. so it's just a vibe. but chronically ill x chronically ill is great too. especially if one partner gives CPR to the point of hurting themselves or even stopping their own heart.
rescuer x rescued post resus is always hot too. my main fantasy from above fits into both this and the one above. two characters who trauma bonded over the rescue and now stick together while one recovers from a now lifelong injury and subsequent disability? yes yes yes. especially if the chronic health problem is a heart problem. where the chance of re-arrest isn't low? give it to me now.
I also don't really post it here, but scientist x experiment? peak. especially as an Avatar fan. working in recom and avatar creation and getting to work on a little dud I was supposed to put down? being their creator? the lower high of it all? yes please 🤭
and for any dynamic/cliche, I tend to like darker topics at times, but with a soft angle. like oh yes, this doctor is experimenting on his patient, sure, but he's gonna be really nice and gentle about it. sure, this guy's heart just stopped, and his best friend is caving in his chest, but his best friend is risking gentle forehead presses or even kisses to the victims cheek. etc. etc.
I want even the darkest scenes to make me feel a little light and fluffy inside however possible.
and finally, just the trope of someone who really knows what they're doing, to the point they over complicate resuscitation? gotta love it.
that's all that comes to mind for now. hope you enjoyed this look into my brain. not all of them are cliches. some are niche as hell, but they should be overused in my mind, I need more of this stuff asap.

You know, whilst obviously a cushy ass job, I don't think many people appreciate how difficult and stressful content creation is. Humans were never meant to have millions of eyes on them and especially people in their 20s or lower are never going to be the perfect emotionless content creating machine
Idk, it's just the way I see some people talk about CCs is kind of painful. Maybe I'm being a bit parasocial, but a few are around my age, or even younger, and I can't help but wonder how horrifically choking it must be to have to continuously entertain millions of people. I know it's easy to forget just how much that is. But even one million is a staggering amount of people. Many of them have over 5+ million subscribers.
And worse yet is that they have to balance their genuine friendships and emotions with what will be considered entertaining to an audience. It's easy as scarian girlies to be upset when Grian avoids Scar so much in the life series since third life, but I think that annoyance is a bit misplaced both because 1. They still interact quite a bit and their interaction are always full of joy and radiate with their friendship even when they play enemies, and 2. In the grand scheme of things, we remain a minority within the 8 million people who are subscribed to Grian. Many more would be annoyed to get the same storyline over and over.
There is an unfortunate pragmatism that content creators in such series have to employ. They need to juggle between their friendships, the people they tend to hover around, and the idea of what would make good content. As much as scarian girlies would eat up 5 seasons of scarian alliance, the nature of their natural friend dynamic as well as the series in general would lead to it being repetitive. It would lead to decreased viewer satisfaction. Decreased viewership. Decreased money. They're in the unfortunate position of monetizing their friendships. Who they ally themselves with is not just a matter of who they like most, but it's also a business decision. None of us are in the position to fully appreciate that, unless there are content creators with millions of followers in the midst of mcyt fans ig.
Idk. Idk. Maybe I'm too protective of CCs or whatever. But I've seen too many folks completely dehumanise them and fully forget that they're just dudes playing Minecraft for a living with their friends in front of million of people. A lot of these dudes are in their 20s or 30s. Hell, even those in their 40s have a right to struggle with shit as well. That level of attention on you can be terrifying. They reserve the right to do what they fucking want, and furthermore reserve the right to offer the kind of content they want. And maybe that includes not exploring a storyline or trope or character the fandom is hyped about because they got spooked by the attention, or flat out aren't comfortable with it. Maybe it's trying to be aware of how often they magnetize towards their closer friends, and thus avoiding making all of their videos about them, because they want to ensure the amusement of the million of people who watch them.
Idk. Idk. There's a level of entitlement we can sometimes feel towards the CCs that we as a fanbase - that we as individual people - need to be aware of and question. These are people. They're professional but not in the same sense that film actors are professionals. The majority of them completely stumbled into their popularity and their spontaneity ends up weighed down by that awareness of an audience. Idk. Grian won't read your posts about him but that doesn't mean you shouldn't be kind

Am I crazy for personally believing that shipping Metal Sonic with Shadow ( Metadow ) would be a form of incest? I know that this is going to sound unreasonable at first to some of you, but I need you folks to hear me out for just a wee second.
Tumblr media
This guy, m'kay? Our favourite old man from Sonic Adventure 2. He was, of course, the guy who created Shadow, someone who he actual considered to be his own son, as stated here on the Sonic Wiki Zone, formerly known as Sonic News Network.
Tumblr media
Now, who else do we know that is related to Gerald? Eggman, his own biological grandson.
Tumblr media
And of course, who did Eggman create? Metal Sonic.
Tumblr media
Now, I know what some of you are going to be asking me right now. " But Bee! Metal doesn't consider Eggman to be his dad! ". Not entirely true, actually! There's been ATLEAST one instance of Metal referring to Eggman as a parental figure! Take this post, fresh from Feburary of this year. Posted by the official Sonic the Hedgehog account.
Tumblr media
Parental unit? Seek fatherly approval? Yeah, it's clear as day that Eggman and Metal have some kind of familial bond going on here. And even if Eggman didn't view his relationship with Metal AS a familial one, he still created them.
Now, back to the topic at hand. Why do I view Metal Sonic x Shadow as an incest ship? Well, although Shadow and Metal don't neccessarily view eachother as family or have a familial bond, their respective Robotnik creators do with their creations ( Eggman with Metal, Gerald with Shadow. ) and their creators are biologically related in the form of a grandfather and his grandson.
And before I hear some of you say that whole " Shadow and Metal aren't biologically related, so it's okay! " argument, hush. A family doesn't NEED to be biological, first of all. Second of all, Shadow would technically be like... Metal's great uncle, in terms of family terms.
Am I saying that Shadow acts like a great uncle towards Metal? No, not really. Am I implying that because they're both created by close Robotniks ( a grandfather and his grandson. ), they shouldn't be shipped together because it's pretty much just as weird as shipping Shadow and Maria or Shadow and Sage together? Oh, definetely.
All I'm saying here is that it's kind of weird to be shipping Shadow and Metal when their dads are related by blood. And it's ESPECIALLY weird that the ship is so normalized on here. If you disagree with me, oh well. I tried.

hihi here to ask stuff about your iteration as a joke for you to answer as a joke!
what's up with the boys and draxum? were they made by draxum? were they raised just by splinter or by both of them?
do they know april and/or casey? how'd they meet?
who's the best cook and who's the worst? does any of them like baking? what about crochet? drawing or graffiti?
(future me here... i did NOT expect to write this much. sorry lol)
im gonna be honest i struggled with coming up with draxum's thing for a LONGGG time. but here's the gist (there's a longer explanation of yokai history in the first oneshot i posted for this au on ao3)- there was a huge yokai population in japan for centuries before a natural disaster and many immigrated overseas, leading to multiple communities mostly on coasts or big cities. most yokai settlements are closer to big human settlements- so there's a lot by la and nyc, but you're not exactly about to find any in lost springs, wyoming, with a population of like 6 people. or any yokai in wyoming at all.
focusing on nyc here, the average new yorker has heard about yokai, but they're more of an urban legend than anything. very similar to "the alligators in the sewers." as for their living situations, think the rise of the tmnt hidden city, but less "magical entrance to a metropolis below new york city" and more like the sewers in mutant mayhem's game "mutants unleashed" but a little more established.
okay, finally to draxum. he's known as a yokai scientist, but not like "renowned amazing life changing discovery scientist", but like. mad scientist vibes. he wanted to find out if there was a way to create yokai without reproducing naturally, because there's been some fear rising about the future of the yokai species, especially with safety and spacial concerns (what if they outgrow the underground? what if they're discovered by humans? what if there's not enough resources? yokai cant exactly just get a job on the surface). which eventually led to the "birth" of the turtles. kind of similar to the rise turtles creation, but they weren't made for war or anything.
draxum is overjoyed at first, but quickly realizes he can NOT raise children. draxum has known splinter for years, and knows he's been feeling lonely since his wife died so he kind of just... gives them to him. splinter doesnt really object. draxum realizes like 13 years later that handing over these kids to a depressed family friend with generational trauma wasnt exactly a good idea because now these kids are a little bit fucked up for life.
anyway, about 10 years later when leo is about 12, raph is almost 12, mikey's 10 and donnie's 9, he decides that he should actually be a part of their life. he was their creator after all, so he finally decides to take responsibility and check up on them. he and splinter co parent until, well. splinter dies when leo is 18. but we'll get to that lol
so, yeah. raised by splinter for like 9 years (which affected them all differently, because splinter's treatment was 100% not equal) and then raised by both until splinter kicks the bucket
ok. april and casey. yeah. they know those guys!
like i said earlier, the average new yorker knows has heard about the "animal people in the sewers." there's obviously a few dumb teens who go looking.
april and casey have been friends for YEARS, and they're both a little crazy, so they take it a little more seriously. anyway, they definitely find them!
splinters PISSED at the turtles for a while for becoming friends with them, but draxum tells him to cut that that shit out and let the turtles have actual friends (splinter and the turtles dont actually live that close to yokai 'society'. it's a while walk through the sewers. splinter doesnt really tell them there's more out there either, so... they grew up kind of isolated).
i havent totally flrshed out april or casey just yet so more on that to come. but yeah. they know those guys. and timothy. and in the future, karai.
i dont really see any of the turtles as a "bad cook", they all range from good to mediocre. but i guess at the end of the spectrum would be raph. mikey's the best because they like sweet treats and bakes them a lot. leo also likes to bake bread every once in a while just because he likes the smell, but he doesn't have a lot of free time for that so it's not often. donnie and mikey both like to crochet, but mikey is more fun, like plushes and granny square blankets and donnie is more functional, like bags and sweaters. raph LOVES graffiti and does it all the time after draxum gets spray paint. mikey is more of a doodler, but leo likes to draw when he has the time.
ok i didnt think i'd write this much but haha yeah i hope that answers your questions lol.. yeahhhhhhh

What do you think the significance is of the three mothers/fathers thing is for Yiffy/Tavvy respectively?
Obviously there’s something to the Jesus/Antichrist imagery there, with two of each of the three parents being destroyer or creator classes: (Sylph (Kanaya) + Witch (Jade) / Bard (Gamzee) + Prince (Dirk)) but I’d like to hear your take.
There’s gotta be something to the fact that two of these figures are a primary parents’ lover (Kanaya & Rose, Dirk & Jake) similar to a Mary and Joseph thing with a strained relation to the kid, but I can’t fully grasp it. Though this would have Kanaya associated with Joseph, rather than the Virgin Mary, which feels like an unusual reversal of roles, but I can still sort of see it, especially with Yiffy’s role in ‘breaking’ what’s canon.
There’s also the argument that Gamzee and Kanaya are in the same “divine third party” roles, that would make them analogous to the place of God in the creation of the children, though I don’t know how it would work with Kanaya being unaware of Yiffy’s birth imo.
There’s also the idea of the three parents falling into troll norms, rather than human ones, which could fit into your idea that Tavvy isn’t fully human. Clearly Yiffy isn’t fully human, with her dog dna from Jade, but that’s a different matter entirely.
I’ve got thoughts, but I’m not exactly sure what to do with it all.
Sorry for the long ask, I’ve been a big fan of your analysis for a while! Feel no pressure to respond to this.
Glad to hear you like the analysis *bashful hand wave*, and I enjoy asks of all shapes and sizes so there is no need for sorries, though it takes me a while to get myself to focus on many specific topics when asked.
But I find myself a little confused with what you're working from, which is the 3 parents and the characters you're referring to? Because you include Kanaya with Yiffy's here despite their third parent pretty explicitly being Dave. I also think when comparing Yiffy's parental situation to the other kids it's best to view them as having 1 guardian in comparison to Harry's 1 and a half (Roxy the 1 and John the half since John left a while after), Vrissy's 2 and Tavvy's 3.
The significance of this is best shown with the context that a guardian is 'someone who watches over you' and therefore an audience, as the amount of parents each kid has can be equated to public perception. Tavvy has 3 and is famously known due to Jane's influence over Earth C, and Vrissy has 2, as she's well known as both the child of two gods (one of which is responsible for the Mothergrub) and as the descendant of another game player recounted to kids in school. Harry is known but to a lesser degree, since 'Harry Anderson' isn't exactly any sort of notable historical figure and neither John or Roxy are intent on meddling in public affairs. Then we have Yiffy, who is practically non-existent, to the point that even being witnessed by the public marks their symbolic 'birth'. When you count Yiffy as having 3, you suddenly lose that significance. There's also the fact you could fit other adults into a trio too, like Harry has John, Roxy and Calliope (they're in the family pictures so why not), and you could consider Vriska to be Vrissy's 3rd parent.
I agree the adults fit into religious roles, but so far I've found it works best to equate indiviual characters to individual religious figures without any extreme repetition (some is fine). Tavvy is definitely Jesus, as Gamzee talks about using him as a sacrificial lamb, and in Meat 39 before bringing up 'combat, philosophy, life, love' (same phrase used to describe Gamzee's training of Tavvy) Jake shouts 'Jesus christopher CLOWNCOCK dirk!' and clowncock = codpiece = Tavvy, aka Jesus christopher. Jane, Tavvy's parent, is God as I've discussed before and there's a comparison between Jake and Noah on 193 when Jane says he's 'the only loyal one left' whilst viewing Roxy's house (Jerusalem), which is currently filled with traitors who killed the figurehead of Earth C's central religion. Kanaya = Mary and Rose = Joseph also works, though not with Yiffy. The most important part of Mary's symbolism is immaculate conception, and insofar that Kanaya is essentially the Mothergrub herself, the author (who is also god) placing Vriska's second-coming within it once again makes her Mary.
Though with this interpretation you end up with Vrissy as Jesus too, this is entirely on purpose because of the 'redemption arc' theme consistent among all of the kids. A 'redemption arc' is a child used to redeem an adult, e.g. Gamzee and Tavvy. Jesus's status as 'the son' and God's as 'the father' mark them as child and adult regardless of actual age, and Jesus is used as a tool to redeem all of humanity from their sins. Adherence to his purpose as a 'redemption arc' for Gamzee is what makes Tavvy the christ figure, and Yiffy the antichrist figure.
They also might be a fallen angel alongside that, since they're a symbolic child (meaning they've fallen to earth) and they have their ears (wings) clipped. The most notable fallen angel is Lucifer, so you could try to link those two, but I think Dirk fits him better since he literally left Candy (Heaven) via a fall and he's Meat's 'ruler' in a sense. Yiffy still gets Jesus parallels anyway, as expected. The canon vs non-canon theme of Meat and Candy alongside the absence of any references to Jesus (or children) in Meat compared to Candy, which is full of them, makes them analogous to the Old Testament and New Testament (other examples of this being a case include his rant prompted by Yiffy's reveal in which he calls Meat an epic creation story and Candy a stupid timeline focused on heart-to-hearts and repaired relationships). Yiffy's written into existence by Rose, an author (symbolically of the New Testament, though I'm not sure if she's anyone specific), and they're only then made real by people's belief in them, which also seems like a comparison to religion in general besides Jesus himself.
This doesn't give me solid answer for Jade's role, however, and if characteristics of Jesus are being split among the Omega kids (Tavvy = redemption of humanity, Vrissy = immaculate conception, Yiffy = written into existence) then I'm also missing something for Harry. When it comes to those two I'm just not well read enough to make any immediate connections

Hello! I know this is a Smallidarity blog. But I wanted to ask, what's your opinion on Boat Boys? And don't take this the wrong way, I love both Smallidarity and Boat Boys!
Hi!!! It's okay to ask non-smallidarity things hehe :3
text wall below (i like yapping):
I like Boat Boys !!! Honestly only just after Joel got onto Hermitcraft I'd say. I watched Joel's Double Life when it was uploading and honestly like. their dynamic didn't feel any more special than two guys playing minecraft and having fun on a casual/content creator level so it didn't really stand out to me at that point.
But Limited Life had like 2 banger Boat Boys one-liners from Etho i guess, and then the Decked Out Stream with the neck kisses bit which was pretty funny, and then Hermitcraft when they really went with the obsessed bit LMAO 😭😭
by HC tho I think they two finally had their dynamic sort of established ? Like we'd finally know how they'd act in casual circumstances or just when playing normal minecraft. Which I do like seeing at the times it happens!!
I think what really made me see their game is especially especially all the fan arts and those animations by Mellozheist really assured me of their dynamic and aesthetic as a duo, which I do love seeing on my tl often!!
Though in Joel's streams, chat would ask his opinion on Etho often and Joel would either make an obsession joke or comment how completely mysterious Etho is. Which tells me on the down-side that they're still at the stage of average friends and colleagues rather than close friends, so canon-wise they aren't my favourite duo compared to other pairings. (i am a sucker for dynamics of people who are close friends)
Also, pet peeve i have, but sometimes I do feel like their interactions feel a liiittle bit forced with chat pushing them to talk about their 'obsessions' with each other all the time. Which i feel like. yk it's been more than 6 months since the bit started. like even I am over smallidarity's "Is this the closest we're ever going to get to making out?" and don't base their entire dynamic on that one instance of them making out in Real Life smp. Yk ?!
(which i guess these kinda things are an unavoidable part of content creation where fans hold on to early introduced bits as long as there are new people flooding in) (so I won't generalize that much onto the duo themselves) (also i HATE FUN!!! /j)
All in all, canon-wise, not my favourite pair. But pretty high standings in terms of aesthetic and fanon interpretations !
Final score: 7.6/10 🆒‼️
(You can really tell that I like to stick close to canon dynamics rather than fanon concepts so er 😭 might be a tad bit biased) (i also loveeee best friends tropes if uh. that wasn't clear with my whole account. LMAO)

I have, I think, a strange connection to parasocialness, not a unique one, there are probably a TON of people that feel this exact way but I've never seen it expressed and possibly others will see this and go OH YEAH TOTALLY
So the prototypical parasocial behavior is indicated basically either by A, feeling like someone is your friend who as no idea who you are, both because in 1 performing as a public person, especially an entertainer
(side note what if instead of youtuber or tiktok creator or any specifics, and in lieu of calling it content creation, because gross, or artist, because that's a broader term than is applicable, we called them intertainers for internet entertainers? this is totally not just because I keep misspelling entertainer)
there is incentive to come off as genuine in a way that invites parasocialness not because that's the goal, it's just easier to make an audience that way, and also because 2, if you are an intertainer for long enough, you end up sharing quite a lot of yourself (personal stories, preferences opinions etc) that makes it seem like you are putting your whole self on the internet, when really you are not
or B, feeling like you know enough about a person to conclude who they are, what they're like, that kind of thing, which is mostly due to the same causes as behavior A.
I feel like I emotionally do B a lot, not purposefully, mostly subconsciously and when I find myself feeling that way, or seeking to be that way, by looking up personal information about youtubers or getting invested in a relationship that is partially public (just to mean people know that it exists, not that it is a Public Relationship) or something like that, I take a moment to remind myself that it is not productive or healthy to do that, even if the intertainer in question wanted to know all of their fans, it is just logistically impossible once you get above like 40 people, so stop that. Sometimes I still indulge a little, like letting myself look up one or two things, but only if it's like something they've talked about and are fine with the public knowing, but I am careful about it, and on general principle I just try to not engage in this behavior for intertainers.
However, I find myself on occasion extremely consciously aware that I do not know said intertainer, and they know me even less, and seeing how they interact with other intertainers and think something to the extent of 'man it would be cool to get to know these people more, they seem like a fun group to hang out with' This is one step removed from the parasocial behavior mentioned above, because it is basically going yeah I see them parasocially, it might be neat to be actually just social with them. Like, I find myself thinking that it would be cool to like accidentally stumble upon one of these people and form a friendship with them. This does happen, especially within the intertainer space, where you can be a fan of someone and then end up collaborating with them and becoming friends, but it is definitely not the norm, especially when one of the people (me) is not an intertainer. This also isn't really in the way of oh man I'm such a huge fan and if I met them that would be craaazy, just these people seem like a fun group to hang out with, wish I could get to know them better.
Now this is still extremely parasocial, I still look at the facades that intertainers put up and think wow what a cool person wish I could know more about them and get acquainted with them. I think this is even more nefarious (meaning like, it can infiltrate the mind without one noticing not that the people that feel this are nefarious), since as detailed, I see it as one step removed from the prototypical parasocial behavior even though it's like still really presumptive of the nature of how people present themselves online. It's also, for me at least, harder to write off. Like I know it's parasocial, but unlike with the other behavior where I go stop being like that, it's not healthy, and then stop, I find it difficult to get rid of this latter feeling. Like if an intertainer says they're going to a convention I think oh that would be the perfect opportunity to bump into them. I immediately say to myself no that's a bad idea and kind of stalkerish, and I've never even gone to a con and there's none ever near me so that's not even like something I'd do, but the thought of wanting to do that, and that it could work lingers in my mind in a way the other kind of stuff doesn't, possible because I don't want to see it as parasocial, and it feels more disconnected from the idea, despite it still being so. In that case, strangely, if I was just a huge fan and wanted to meet them, then that would be a normal thing to do at a con, and I am being MORE parasocial by having this idea that I could 'accidentally' meet them and befriend them.
I also specifically have this thought of 'oh I'd be super causual about it' Like if I saw a person I was a fan of on the street I would just be like oh shit it's you love your work because that seems like the thing to do, not freak out. Or if I coincidentally (and I actually mean coincidentally here, not like the 'accidental' of the other thought) were to like move in close to someone I was a fan of, ti would be cool to see them around, and it would be neat to try to get to know them more. and this is a particular weird part to me.
Wanting to get to know, or even befriend, neighbors is a normal thing to do. I would like to become friends with neighbors, so I have people that live near me I am friends with, and also just because having friends is nice. I don't do that now with neighbors because I'm a shut in grad student but that's besides the point at the moment.
If I was neighbors with an intertainer that I enjoyed, and I wanted to become friends, or at least acquainted, with them, then that would be parasocial, because even in recognizing I do not know very much about them, I would still be entering the sphere of communication on uneven ground because I would know way more about them than they knew me, the same issue as before. I think even if I tried to like forget about their work entirely, or create like a distinction between the intertainer and the person, the parasociality would still creep in inevitably. And if I just pretended to not know about it to them specifically, like ask what they do and be all coy like oh I don't really use youtube or whatever, then that would be worse in a way due to the deception, and on examining what would happen if it became known that I did know their work, they would feel a little scandalized, rightfully. Also if I got to know them, then tried to interact with them as a fan of their work, then it would be overly familiar, like it would be unfair to any other fan that I got to do this. I sometimes also feel this way when I interact publicly with irl friends that have, not a following, but people that they don't know that enjoy their work, like I'm being overly familiar with them in this public setting, that's kind of strange even though we are actually friends because it looks like I'm being insanely parasocial or that it's unfair that this person can talk to you like this but people they don't' know can't. (This also verges on the 'you can be jokingly rude to friends but try doing that on anon asks and you're just a dick because yeah you don't know that person or 'egg discourse' where constantly badgering a public person about their gender identity is different from nudging at a close friend in a jocular manner, both of which are kind of landmines and I don't want to touch anymore because that's not really what this is about for me)
That is all also more of an emotional feeling than one I think is actually based on some truth, and may be a reflection of how I would feel if I learned that someone 'got' to do that that wasn't me (I am also aware that that sounds kind of deranged, but I mean that I would feel this in a kind of knee jerk response, not to say that that isn't my feeling, but I recognize that it is unreasonable)
I also would be more motivated to get to know an intertainer that I share a neighborhood with than a generic neighbor, which is certainly parasocial, but could also partly due to the fact that a generic neighbor also includes plenty of people I just wouldn't get along with, so in having them be an intertainer I know, I would at least know that I would get along with them-- Accept it I wouldn't! I just caught that as I was typing actually. just because I like an intertainer's material does not mean I would necessarily get along with them, and is even less indicative of how they would find my personality, so in saying that I am still being parasocial.
I don't know what I would do in that situation of I'm being honest, realistically continue to be a shut in and just know I have someone I 'know' online as a neighbor, but just thinking about it happening, or 'fantasizing' (not that per se, but just kind of thinking it'd be neat if that happened, maybe idealizing) about it is still parasocial.
Actually I had an opportunity to do this kind of. There's a youtuber who made videos about going to undergrad where I am currently doing my PhD, and he's involved with some of the programs that the department at a lab attached to the university does, so he's around, though not on campus, at that lab, for a few weeks in the summer, and what I do, while not related to that subject, is tangentially connected, just because they're both ultimately about nuclei and shit. I have a friends who is a fan of his, as am I somewhat, and he joined the program, not to meet the guy, but because his research is in that subject so it made sense, but in getting to meet him, my friend was telling me about how nervous he was to meet and first, and it was really awesome to get to work with him. And I couldn't not think that if I met him I simply would not be like that. There was a vague sense of superiority that I knew was unfounded, but I thought like pfft I would just be casual and could become friends with him. I didn't end up going to the lab most of the summer, so I never met him, and I never felt inclined to go there just to meet him, but I had this sense of my friend is being weird I would be so normal. But as with the convention thing, it is arguably more parasocial to try to play it cool and get to know them more rather than just be a fan, though different in this case, because my friend was basically working with him, and while he was initially like woah guy I'm a fan of he wasn't like actually off putting or like being a super fan obsessive kind of guy anything. But yeah all my feelings surrounding that situation were actually stranger, I think, than just being a fan.
This is also more complex on tumblr I think, since a lot of blogs are just like things the person finds interesting, and often there really isn't that facade, at least not in a purposeful way. Sending asking, directly reblogging and tagging posts, likes being visible, it kind of leans into the feeling of yeah this is a person you can be friends with if you just try hard enough. Sometimes this is true! people make mutuals in this way, they follow each other, then come to know each other better, sharing other contacts, dming, @'ing, you can become actual online friends with people on tumblr in a way that I think is harder on any other platform (though I'm only on youtube and tumblr so if there's other social media platforms like that then my b, I saw that post where someone was dating on quora so I guess anything is possible). There's more to this as well, like being mutuals on tumblr can also just be a blog thing, not necessarily a friend thing, or you can have friends that only follow you or you only follow them because either blog does not have stuff on it actually interesting to the other. Anyway, all that to say, it's really easy to be parasocial on tumblr, and also easier to actually be friends on tumblr, but that's a side thing, I'm mostly interested in parasociality as a youtube phenomenon, which is where I experience it.
All that also to say that thoughtcrime isn't really a thing and if I'm not being a creep or doing anything harmful or anything like that then like who cares, but I find categorizing which thoughts are useful/productive and which are harmful/unproductive and other categories and try to cultivate a mindscape that is healthy to the best of my ability (though mental illness definitely does not help with that) and I noticed a strange pattern of parasociality that I haven't heard before, and maybe has been left behind in the popular conception of it, or else discussions of it are happening and I just haven't seen it, or that I'm the only one to feel exactly this way (that seems unlikely though given the number of people that are)

Mass Effect aliens aren't alien
The aliens in Mass Effect are more human-like than actual aliens would be. Mass effect has just enough biology to have me interested and just enough biology to infuriate me because i can see all the flaws. Part of it is that mass effect tries to play on classic scifi tropes which themselves were based on bad science. Like aliens in old movies were humans in suits with paint. The second part is that the game was written by a bunch of writers not scientists so a bunch if small inaccuracies are everywhere and i can tell while they did research it's only a basic understanding. Biology serves as a narrative tool and thus lacks the fundamental rules real life science exists on.
Intelligent design, gods' will, creationism, etc. don't exist in reality. Evolution is the process in which random new mutations arise in a population and traits which best allow the population to survive and reproduce in their specific environmental conditions, are differentially selected for over many generations becoming more or less common. So Padok Wilks as a trained biologist should know this. The thing about mass effect is that it includes many common scifi tropes and many scifi tropes in the anglosphere by nature of the history of the anglosphere, include a lot of latent christianity, including intelligent design. On of the common scifi tropes is of the ancient aliens, precursors, creators sometimes. Take for example 2001: A Space Odyssey guiding humans with the monoliths and transcending them into space babies. In Evangelion the game reveals the First Ancestral Race. In mass effect we know certain species like the proteans have meddled with other pre-space species. We know the reapers have been setting up conditions to guide species to harvest. Even if the process of evolution is the same as in the real universe, it's well established in scifi that another ancient species could have meddled with the course of a species development.
What is intelligence. Humans by default are pretty anthropocentric, it is difficult for most to imagine things beyond their own experiences. And so especially historically but even now intelligence has been defined as how close to human an animal acted. The debunked evolutionary ladder concept includes both the concepts above: humanity placed as the pinnacle of evolution and it's goal, a tiered hierarchy where of course humans were at the top and where other animals were ranked as more or less advanced based on how similar to humans they were. Dolphins use tools and toys, slime molds can solve mazes, masting trees or bamboo know exactly when to coordinate reproductive events years apart, octopuses solving puzzles, squirrels and other cache making species like certain birds remember thousands of individual locations more than most humans can. Yet still we see these things in human concepts: tools, memory, problem solving, the classic mirror exercise. In mass effect all the aliens are humanoid (minus the evil reapers (and their creators). The sapient species are pretty much all bipedal bilaterally symmetrical tetrapods with a recognizable head, 2 feet, and 2 hands. It is also the species that most resemble humans that get the most screen time, speaking lines, and other narrative measures of importance. The only non human shaped species are elcor which are quadrupedal and hanar which are mostly a joke. The leviathans and reapers and rachni are my lifeline, and they have non human body plans to make them sinister, villainous, untrustworthy, and well alien. None of them are really characters, they are more exposition and plot points, obstacles for the player to overcome. Where are my mycelium aliens! where are my incomprehensible aliens. like imagine because of the communication gap all the species you don't even know are sapient (what is sapient).
The aliens in Mass Effect are tame. They're made to be palatable to the average person's sexual orientation. Drell were literally designed around Thane who was created to be attractive in an exotic way. This has many causes including the antropocentricism touched upon above. Mass Effect includes a lot of scifi tropes and many of these tropes were from visual media like movies or TV. The thing with video is that the cheapest and easiest way to get an alien character is to paint an actor blue and maybe glue some prostetic antennae on their head. Actually hiring a biologist consultant to design a species, dedicated writers to making it work, prop and puppet builders, puppet actors, artists, special effects teams, is all extremely expensive in effort, money, and time. so no one ever does it. and once people painted green was a short hand for alien other studios feel less shy on using lazy short hand for aliens. Lastly writers are pretty much never scientists, a lot of them are english lit majors. Writing biologically plausible aliens is way out of their field. And I can tell the Bioware writers did try, but just like a bunch of english majors trying to write biology, they lack an understanding of the fundamental principles underpinning biology and science in general. So while it's a good effort, the believability is a veneer and it easily falls away.
From a design perspective sure I can understand the tropes Mass Effect is invoking, but why bother having aliens if they aren't going to be alien. Now Bioware could have leaned into the guided evolution aspect, that reapers have been farming species into convergently evolving humanoid shapes for millions of years. But that isn't a major point in Mass Effect and also the Leviathans aren't humanoid so why would they. A classic scifi trope they also could have invoked would be the precursor/ancestral race trope where all the sapients are descended from a common humanoid species seeded onto different planets. This is tricky to navigate though as it can be very easy to slide into race purity talking points.
And another thing it's totally implausible that most species communicate with what humans would recognize as vocals. The exceptions are elcor scent and hanar light communication, almost everyone else speaks and that's bizarre. Would turians really have vaguely Roman sounding names? Why would any species just so happen to have anatomy that can make similar sounds to humans. I can excuse a lot of it as black box translator technology but my suspension of disbelief is broken that the translator is making up names that fit human naming sensibilities.

May i humbly request some Sekhmet headcanons?
Ill add one of mine as a treat: i feel like she has some self esteem issues thanks to the blood beer incident thing so she really tries to overcompensate with her role in the solar barque yk just really trying to prove to herself that she deserves the "the eye of ra" title
hii aww that's cute, i mean that hc isn't "cute" per se, but i mean that i like the dimension ur giving to ur version of Sekhmet :)) here's my thoughts on her:
so, on Ra's barque, i think his main entourage consists of Hathor, Sekhmet, Bastet, Heka, Sia, & Hu, and later also Set.. but before Set, i consider Ra to be the "creator" of Hathor, Sekhmet, Bastet, Heka, Sia, & Hu... i think he created them by himself.
because of this, in many ways, Ra is considered by Sekhmet to be her father, though she doesn't actually call him "Father" directly. she'll call him "King" or usually simply "old man".
Sekhmet is a bit "playful"... even though Ra has her undying respect, she does also think he can be overdramatic and fanciful, and she likes to call by nicknames that "humble" him.
Ra, of course, loves Sekhmet to no end, and while he pretends to be dramatically hurt by her calling him "old", he isn't truly affected and knows that it's just Sekhmet's way.
i think Sekhmet is a bit of a grumpy gal... you brought up the blood-beer incident, and i think that's a prime example of her violent nature. she's not usually cheerful or easygoing.
i love the idea of Sekhmet being very uptight... she's always itching to go to war, but she stays her hand because she's unquestioningly loyal to Ra and will only fight when it pleases Ra for her to do so. and for the most part, Ra is a peaceful guy, so this doesn't happen often.
she takes offense very quickly, and her temper is long-lasting.
but when she's in a good mood, she can be witty at times, and her smile is a treat for those blessed enough to see it.
she also has terrible taste in humour.
now, in the texts, it has also been recorded that Sekhmet was sometimes Ra's consort. also, in Egyptian mythology, Sekhmet is sometimes considered an "aspect" of Hathor as opposed to her own individual person, but i think that's too complicated for literary purposes, so i do like the idea that Sekhmet is simply Hathor's sister and acts as such.
in terms of consorts; i do not consider Sekhmet to be Ra's wife. i think she's just his daughter, now and forever. but she is married to Ptah, who i consider to be another creation god at either a level just below Ra or at his equivalence.
i haven't figured out how Sekhmet and Ptah met, but i picture Ptah as being the total opposite of Sekhmet, which is what makes it funnier that they're a thing.
i DON'T think Ptah travels on Ra's barque, and this is important to me because that sort of segways to the common ground shared by Set and Sekhmet;
both of them are warriors at heart, have gruff exteriors but are soft on the inside, might be a little sadistic, are fiercely loyal, and also have spouses who they must leave behind in Egypt while they travel with Ra and fight Apep.
i love the idea of Sekhmet being super doubtful of whether Set deserves to join Ra, but she doesn't question her King, and overtime, she's the first (second, actually) one to see Set for who he really is; a noble and good god.
also, i hc that, after Ra, Sekhmet was the best fighter on the barque, until Set came along; i think he's the only one who can go head-to-head with her, and when they fight, it's like a dance.
anyhoo. Sekhmet mainly has a tolerance for those in Ra's entourage, and she doesn't really get along too well with anyone else. i think she especially has a distaste for Horus because she thinks him to be rude and immature ((read these hc's here for a more detailed explanation)) and he disrespects Ra >:((
so uhm yeah!! all in all, Sekhmet is a kick-ass goddess who likes to pick fights, and make bad unfunny jokes <3

I saw glimpses of that AI Princess Mononoke trailer and it's the perfect springboard for talking about something that's been on my mind (that I've talked about before as well).
Earlier this week I also saw an article about the creation of basically a "fan committee" for creating stuff and anyone who has any idea about how fandom works knows how terrible that idea is.
I hate this dehumanisation of art. I hate it so much.
These are different sides to it, but both of them devalue the artist in pretty horrible ways.
AI "art" is about claiming the recognition an artist gets without putting in any of the work. It's theivery for selfish validation and feeling special, for getting those clicks and getting to feel the "feeling" that you put in the work.
Whereas creating a fan committee specifically forces any creatives in a box very similar to any of the business executives meddling in the creative proccess puts them into because fans don't actually often understand why something is good.
Fans are more often consumers, not creatives themselves, especially modern audiences.
So letting fans decide/have control over the direction of what they love might seem very cool on the surface, but what it really does is further silence the creators themselves and their voices because even if the creatives themselves are wrong about their characters or plot points they create, this comes about from their minds, their perspective.
It's authentic because it's what they wanted to create, not something they were assigned to create by someone else. Simply put, the piece of art becomes that of the committee, not the artist, even if it's by people who care.
So truly property written by Reddit or Twitter.
Both of these are solely about creating a product to get more money, as well.
I didn't think stifling unique creative voices could get even worse than it was already getting, but here we are.
But hey that death that might be incredibly important to character development? Gone now because it's someone's favourite character.
See that tragedy involving difficult decisions and topics? Gone now because it's too "upsetting".
Any of the less loved cast, even if they have essential participation in the narrative? Bye bye.
Or even any basic conflict that isn't immediately resolved and mysteries that aren't immediately explained because they're "plot holes"?
Any scene that doesn't "further the plot", but regardless is important to make you care?
Nope. Need to have that instant gratification.
And I think it's all stuck in the system being focused on profit to the most extreme degrees.
I think it'll all eventually catch up; it already is when looking at comic book movies, but a lot of slop does, in fact, bring a lot of money still.
(Disney live action remakes.)
