Random thought, but it might be worth saying since Tumblr is something like 43% users from North America:
I'm in Norway, and today is the superbowl. People here don't really give a rat's ass about the game. Some of them watch the commercials on YouTube or the halftime show if it's someone they recognize. But they don't follow teams like Americans do. In order for Europeans to understand the superbowl, and in order for Americans to understand that Europe DOES have something like this as well, we turn to the Eurovision Song Contest
Now, I have also caught eurovision on occasion as well, and it can be fun too. I'd put that on about the scale of the superbowl for the amount of attention it gets and how excited people are for following their "team".
With every country sending in a band or group or a performer and cheering them on? Oh and what's this? Advertisers KNOW that way more people are watching, so they put on much bigger and more lavish commercials during the song contest than they do the rest of the year? Oh damn. I guess we DO actually understand each other then, don't we?
As a very important side note: Eurovision is an important political time too. Which is why it's so, So SOOOOOOO disappointing that Isreal gets to perform and Palestine doesn't. Like Are. You. Fucking. Serious!?
For Americans to understand THIS;
Imagine the NFL fielded a team called the "School Shooters" and Let Them Play IN THE SUPERBOWL
I think that would piss you off too.

We in Europe attach great importance to what happens in the US, even things of little importance, sometimes they, but sometimes not even the news that can concern something bad or something important at a sporting level, for example, or cinema. Perhaps they don't have much money to send the journalists sent around Europe for example here we have envoys for each country who can sometimes be on the spot like in the center of Paris or London or they are in the television studios of the city of Berlin , Madrid for example or from Istanbul
They do have these journalists but again, they're mainly stationed in London, Paris or sometimes Berlin. It's more about interest. Those journalists are only there if something bad happens so they can report from the ground or when a global sporting event happens. Just think about how long it took them to discover the Eurovision. You knew Eurovision arrived in the US when Justin Timberlake did his "halftime show". lmao

Oh yeah, if you don't want my Eurovision thoughts, maybe put esc on the block list. This will be my personality until the halftime show (when I will go boil eggs for my picnic brunch tomorrow).

Just like sports tournaments have musical halftime performances, Eurovision should have a mini-football match as the interval act

lbr here, if america wants in eurovision then they have to show the pure and utter dedication that australia showed for decades without a peep. they have to physically transport themselves to europe through willpower alone

And same in Inglis - (don't have time to translate verbatim, but I'll give y'all an idea.)
Basically, CCC was played during halftime at a Carolina Hurricanes game. (This is a team in the NHL for those who don't know Ice hockey. Lol) There were 19,000 spectators.
The Carolina Hurricanes has 4 Finnish players on the team. One of the players was asked if he knew why the song was played. He said that he didn't know why and maybe it's not that it gets people moving and it's popular.
Last year, CCC was played right after Eurovision (at a Dallas Stars game. The three Finnish players were also nicknamed Cha Cha Cha affectionately.)
I agree with OP. It's very sweet to hear that K's music is being played at Ice Hockey stadiums, especially because he used to play himself. 💚
NHLの会場でCha Cha Cha 🟢🟢🟢

my understanding is the Super Bowl is how the u.s. elects the next American Idol who must then defeat the Eurovision Champion in a battle to the death thus becoming the next Emperor of Halftime, this is how politics are decided

I know I KNOW I share this every two months but hey, new international fans of ESC and Käärijä, have you seen the halftime show by Vesala on UMK last year? Yes, it was a halftime show, no it never competed. But it’s the quality we bring to the ESC table, especially being next to the Eurovision powerhouse Sweden. Just something different.
