Tewkensuchus: King of Punta Peligro
Last month we got our fourth croc of the year and our second notosuchian: Tewkensuchus salamanquensis (Forehead crocodile from the Salamanca Formation), a large-bodied sebecoid from the earliest Paleocene of Argentina. And GODDAMN is it a cool one.
Below some of the fossil material of Tewkensuchus, it doesn't look like much but stay with me for this post.

Starting with the fossil material, Tewkensuchus is admittedly not the most complete sebecid, hell Dentaneosuchus from two years ago is significantly better preserved. Essentially, Tewkensuchus preserves a bit of the skull and a few vertebrae. But the material we do have is exceptional in other ways. Like some European sebecoids, it had a high and broad sagittal crest that extends over its forehead flanked by two broad depressions. Remember the similarity to European sebecoids, thats gonna come back later. Theres also some interesting stuff in how the bony eyebrows, the palpebrals, articulate with the rest of the skull.
What is REALLY weird however is the shape of the postorbitals. Quick anatomy lesson, in crocs the postorbitals form the front corners of the skull table thats located just behind the eyes. They tend to be flat, but in the case of Tewkensuchus they are inclined so that they rise upwards behind the eyes. Now we have plenty of examples of crocodylomorphs with raised squamosals, giving them a somewhat ear-like appearance, but raised postorbitals are a new one.
Below: An artistic interpretation of Tewkensuchus featuring its unique cranial morphology by Manusuchus (give them a follow) from different angles.

One last thing on its anatomy, it was BIG. And I mean big. The team that described Tewkensuchus estimate that its complete skull might have been just over half a meter long, so some 20 inches. This might correspond to a weight of perhaps 300 kg (660 lb), larger than even the largest Cretaceous Baurusuchids.
Now, I hope you remember the part where I said that theres similarities to European sebecoids. Well that sentence has two key points the paper deals with. First of all, the connection to European forms itself. Phylogenetic analysis seems to indicate that despite being found in Patagonia, all its closest relatives are from the Eocene of Europe. These are the recently named giant Dentaneosuchus from France, Bergisuchus from Germany and Iberosuchus (I'll let you figure that one out for yourselves). So after Tewkensuchus disappears South America is inhabited by only distant cousins while its closest relatives show up some 20 million years later on the other side of the Atlantic.
The other noteworthy part of the statement is the use of "Sebecoid" rather than sebecid. That's because of taxonomic back and forth. Essentially, a few previous studies have not included European sebecoids (Bergisuchus and Iberosuchus) within the family Sebecidae, instead featuring them as a separate branch that split off beforehand. In some studies that branch is known as Bergisuchidae, in others they are two branches, you get the idea. Now the description of Dentaneosuchus for instance did away with Bergisuchidae and simply include these European forms within Sebecidae itself. Still as the basalmost members, but given the honor of being at least included. Same goes for Ogresuchus. Well, in the description of Tewkensuchus, we go back to the separate model. So Bergisuchus, Iberosuchus, Dentaneosuchus and Tewkensuchus all form a single not officially named group simply referred to as the "Eurogondwanan clade". This group was placed as the sister family to Sebecidae and together with Ogresuchus the two form the newly named Sebecoidea.
Europe's sebecoids, Dentaneosuchus (art by Joschua Knüppe), Bergisuchus (by Scott Reid) and Iberosuchus (once again Manusuchus)

And this is where we need to address the fact that Tewkensuchus creates a bunch of new problems and makes old ones worse. For starters, it's size. By all accounts its way too big. Keep in mind, this animal appeared some 2 to 3 million years after the extinction of the dinosaurs, an extinction event that is generally thought to have killed everything on land heavier than 10 kilos. And then you get Tewkensuchus with an estimated weight of 300. Well, there's two possible explanations for that. Explanation 1 hinges on the known fact that these rules don't quite apply to semi-aquatic animals. Sure, anything large on land got whiped out, but eusuchian crocodiles managed to survive quite well despite their large size in part because they were partially aquatic. So perhaps Tewkensuchus and sebecoids as a whole underwent an aquatic phase? Well, this would work quite well with what is known as the Sebecia-hypothesis. Essentially, there is some debate on the relationship between sebecids and other notosuchians. Some studies draw a link between them and the similarily terrestrial baurusuchids, placing them in the group Sebecosuchia. Other studies meanwhile believe that sebecids are most closely related to peirosaurids, which in turn are close kin to itasuchids and mahajangasuchids, with both of the latter being more semi-aquatic than other notosuchians. The problem with this is twofold. On the one hand, to my knowledge there has never been any indication that sebecids underwent an aquatic phase and even Cretaceous sebecoids like Ogresuchus from before the impact were clearly terrestrial. The other issue, as nice as this would fit with the Sebecia-hypothesis, this particular study actually recovers the Sebecosuchia model. So there's that.
Personally I don't really buy into this explanation, which takes us to the second possibility. Sebecoids got really jacked really fast. I mean, that's it really. If sebecoids didn't undergo some weird little phase that somehow excempts them from the 10 kilo rule then the only logical answer is that they must have grown to a ridiculous degree the second the dust settled. Do we have evidence for that? Well....kinda but not really no. The closest we have is the fact that Dentaneosuchus from the Eocene clearly reached an enormous size on its own, but that was over 20 million years after the impact. We do at least know that sebecoids were small prior to the KPG thanks to Ogresuchus from Spain, which grew to only a meter in length. But a sample size of one isn't exactly exact proof that all sebecoids were small prior to the impact, especially with shifting phylogenies. The paper itself argues that its most parsimonious that whatever sebecoid crossed the boundry was already fairly large, but time will tell if this holds up. Whatever the case, with a skull half a meter in length it was certainly a formidable predator and a terrifying sight to any unfortunate mammal to cross its path.
Tewkensuchus attacking a startled Monotrematum, a South American monotreme, art by Joschua Knüppe

Finally the last thing to address, paleogeography. It sucks. Moving on. Jokes aside, sebecoid geography was already a pain in the ass. Assuming the sebecosuchian model, sebecoids likely split off from baurusuchids during the Santonian. Mind you this is purely based in the first appearance of baurusuchids, since sebecoids didn't appear for quite a while. Ignoring the problematic Doratodon, the first sebecoid to appear in the fossil record is Ogresuchus in the Maastrichtian of Spain. In the Paleocene we then obviously get Tewkensuchus representing the Eurogondwana clade in Argentina as well as sebecids proper, which seem to be constrained to South America. But then in the Eocene we suddenly have sebecoids in Europe and Africa (for simplicity I'm assuming that Eremosuchus was a sebecoid rather than a sebecid as is traditional). So, how does any of this work? We don't know. I've been breaking my head over how to best explain this without just repeating the paper itself, so let me just say this. Maybe sebecoids originated in South America with baurusuchids, they managed to enter Europe at the very least once giving rise to Ogresuchus, probably via Africa given that its very much undersampled. From there who fucking knows. Maybe Ogresuchus was just one random branch and the two main groups both actually originate in South America. Maybe the Eurogondwana group emmigrating to Europe as well while sebecids proper remained. Maybe the Eurogondwana group originated in Europe and Tewkensuchus simply returned to South America, or maybe they originated in Africa and had members travel west to South America and north to Europe. Or maybe....you get the idea, we don't know. We don't know if they rafted or took land bridges (tho the latter seems more likely), we don't know where certain groups first originated in actuality, we do not know a lot and Tewkensuchus being such a blatant link between Paleocene South America and Europe, which were well separated by that point, raises so many questions.
I imagine this is what this entire last section reads like....

I wish that last segment wasn't as chaotic as it is, but like I said, its a big old confusing mess and it gives me a headachse just thinking about it. So for the time being, its simplest to assume that they split from baurusuchids in South America and then some stuff happened we don't understand. Personally, I'm very much putting my trust in Africa here, I am 100% convinced that some very important stuff went down that we just haven't found yet. But thats just me.

Shark Merperson reader is real gud.
- 🦈
(HOLY FUCK. THANK YOU TO WHICH EVER ANON REQUESTED THAT BECAUSE I FUCKIN LOVE SHARKS.
Now Im thinking of a Price x Reader, because shars are the oldest species known to exist. Obviously sharks arent immortal, they've just been on this earth way b4 tress bloody existed.
So Im thinking the readers an eldritch creature, they represent sharks as a whole, as long sharks exsist they exsist. Heck they mights of even of been Prices mentor when he was in his draconic 100s? (Late 20s?).
Imagine Price missing his friend calls him up to see hows hes doing. Reader elated to meet an old friend, accepts the invitation to meets up with him. Reader definitely scolds him for lossing a wing, honestly is pertrified Price lost a piece of himself and thought he was retiring due to it. Cut ahort to him smacking him slap dab on the head when he learns he's lost it a long time ago and didnt tell him.
Cue wholesome interactions th 141 and etc. Heck maybe some romance with Price.
Just a blurb i had yo tell you abt)
Okay, this tickles my eldrich abomination trying to act human itch
CW:SFW, eldritch reader, kissing
Price knows you're there the second he steps onto the old wooden pier, able to smell seaweed and brine and something in the air — what he thinks the bottom of the ocean smells like, old rot of decaying whales and older heat of geothermal vents — the soft wind billowing his hair like the breathing of an elderly beast.
He knows you're watching him, passively at least, washed up mermaid purses dotting the beach to give you a glimpse of the world above the waves through the yolks vital for the pup's survival, able to dream of the warm sun and course sand while you slumber beneath the waves.
"Oi, ser, yer look like a wee lass waiting for her sailor." Soap's sharp voice cuts through the air, the werewolf far too energized for his own good, the sand in his fur not dampening his mood when he can just shake himself off and flick the grains on Simon.
"Hah," Price snorts, "Maybe I am." He tilts his head back to the sea, sharp eyes watching the breaking waves. "Time to wake up old friend." He mutters your mangled name under his breath, mortal lips and vocal cords unable to replicate your own voice.
The young ones in his team lack the sight needed to notice your form slowly rise from the sea like a submarine breaking through the ice, only the visible flicker of air and the receding water keying them in. Price old enough to see you without needing the inner surface of his skull to be dotted with eyes. Though even he sees your real form like a man having a stroke — vaguely familiar at first yet the details are undefinable — flesh and sea melding together without rhyme or reason, long strings of seaweed bearing miniature eyes with pups wriggling inside, cookie cutter sharks boring holes through finless corpses so long eel sharks may form ever reforming sinews, fossilized bone and old rock giving giving support to the massive insult to reality's laws; birth and life wrapped up in death.
You're an affront to logic. And with one sneeze from existence itself you're human standing in front of him.
Eerily human.
Perfectly human.
Almost.
"What the fuck?" He can faintly hear Gaz's voice, all of them only now noticing you stand where you weren't previously.
Your hand touches his back before he even registers you move, always slightly damp, "When did this happen?" You ask as you trace the spot where his wing used to be. "What did this?"
"And a 'hello' to you too sweetheart." He clasps a hand around your waist, purring softly in greeting as he pulls you closer to his chest. Even if he sees you once every few centuries, even if you don't possess the ability to reciprocate, his love for you is as youthful as it was when he was but a wyrm.
Your facial features remain neutral like the ones of sunken statues, but you blink, and for a few seconds he can see that yawning abyss in your eyes. "Hi." You say, your hand still tracing the bump created by atrophied flight muscles, trying to judge how fresh it is. "Explain."
Your tone sounds like a predator baring it's teeth, but he knows you wouldn't harm him. "In a lil' bit." He snorts, puts pressure on your back until he forces your legs to move. "Come, want you to meet my boys."
The introductions are odd on both ends considering you hadn't spoken with people other than Price since that Icarus of a passenger ship mistook your fin for an iceberg and they've never met an old one like you. But you like them, they compliment Price just like the small scale he gave you makes the pearls and gold offered to you through the ages shine more.
Even if your face is unreadable, somehow they can figure out you're not too amused when you hear he'd lost his wing during a mission. "I told you arrogance would cost you." You at least you can mimic a sigh as you rub your head, "At least you retired." You say,
"We wish!" Soap snorts before he can help it, and the next thing they hear is a horrific crack that has them jumping out of their skin.
Your head had whipped 180 degrees with the rest of your body remained in place, the laws of nature nothing more but blurry guidelines. "You. . .did retire?" You ask, voice like the roar of a whirlpool.
"About that," Price starts, unable to finish his thought as you slap him upside the head as if he's still the whelp who thought he could brave an ocean storm.
"You'll put me in the grave." You growl, holding him by the ear, words spilling from your mouth like seawater filling the empty bowels of a ship. "I swear your scaly hide hasn't learned a single thing-"
"Should we help?" Gaz wonders as they watch you chastise their captain like he's a boy.
"No, this is great entertainment." Ghost chuckles.
"Want me ta grab the popcorn?" Johnny ads, already snacking, tail thumping against Simon's leg and growling playfully when Gaz reaches for the snacks.
Eventually your anger relents, mood changing as swiftly as the tide. You spend the time they have left learning about the men he's chosen as his hoard. Kyle's a bit weary of you just due to his harpy nature, but soon enough you two can be found sitting on the pier and fishing, and if you purposely make the waves flow so a big fish snags on Kyle's line, Price never says anything about it, not when his boy has a smile as big as the sun when he looks at the gigantic fish flopping on his hook.
You attempting to help Soap cook the barbeque, but you're fine motor skills are rusty after all these years of slumber, so the food is slightly burnt but Price loves when his food's basically charcoal and eats it with a smile, especially as it keeps you from telling all the embarrassing stories you have of him, from when he got his ass bit by a squid to when he was so horny he ended up rutting against an extra curvy piece of rock, though the rest have already heard enough dirt to bury him for the next several decades.
Unfortunately for Price, you and Ghost hit it off like a house on fire, and Ghost ends up learning far too many ways to hurt people without killing them that most definitely are against the Geneva conventions but you pull seniority on it. Simon in turn, teaches you how to play cards, which, when you're literally a god that can see almost everything including your opponent's cards, means the shmucks Simon ropes into playing you and Simon end up with empty pockets.
As the sun stars to dip behind the horizon you wind up sitting next to Price by the fire, the others splashing in the water.
You feel his wing spread behind your back to pull you closer to him, "I missed this." He says, knowing you won't comment on the 'I missed you' hidden behind his vellum words.
"Last time we met like this Napoleon was still emperor." You hum, a small yawn escaping you, sharp tips of shark teeth peeking from human gums. "And you had two wings." You can't help but point out, making it clear you've not forgiven him about not informing you.
Price pointedly ignores your later comment, his hand tentatively, almost shyly, reaching down to sit on top of yours. "Afraid I'll forget about you?"
His pulse picks up when you shift your hand to hold his, fingers lacing together when you don't have a tail as a human. "You wait for me." You shrug, holding your free arm up, reality wheezing for a few moments before his scale is suddenly in your hand, shiny and unharmed just as it was when he'd given it to you all those years ago. "And I dream of you."
His eyes widen and heart melts, a purr rumbling in his chest "C'mere sweetheart," He rumbles and pulls you into a kiss, free hand holding your chin stable.
You taste of salt and blood, of chilling cold and boiling heat, of something ancient and familiar and Price drinks it all down like a babe, tongue licking in your mouth and fangs nibbling on your lip, feeling you respond, the touch of hungering god as soft as silk, just to him.
But he knows this won't last.
A shark has no reason to stay on land, and a dragon can't survive underwater regardless of how much he wants. Soon you'll return to slumber, and Price won't know when he'll see you again, if he'll see you again, or if you'll learn of his passing when your waves swallow up his ashes.
He doesn't notice the prickling in his eyes but you do, wiping a stray tear with the pad of your thumb, your other hand still wrapped around his. "Don't worry John," You say, statue features finally cracking into a small smile, "I'll stay for a little while." You say and lead him into another kiss, the other members of TF141 leaving you two to catch up on lost time...

rusted [pжавый] - captain america: tws (2014) pt 1 - bucky barnes x tony stark's daughter
summary: a mission with the great steve rogers and flirting is on the air (although not the way readers imagine)
<<< Previous chapter Rusted Masterlist
“MISSION ALERT
EXTRACTION IMMINENT
MEET AT THE CURB”
Hennessy hesitated for a moment, her fingers hovering above the screen before she tapped out the message. At the last second, she added a
:P
to the end of it.
Not exactly regulation behavior, she knew. But after the past few months working closely with Captain America, the lines of formality had blurred more than once.
Steve had opened to her and in return, she’d learned to read him better than most. That trust had been sealed during long missions, quiet strategy sessions, and the way he sometimes called her “Henny” over the comms without even thinking about it.
Which gave her permission to occasionally push the envelope. Especially when teasing was involved.
Fury had sent her their next mission details, something urgent e low-profile. And since she knew Steve would be out on his morning run, she figured she’d spare him the trek back and go pick him up herself.
The agent spotted him easily as she turned into the street. He was on the sidewalk, mid-conversation with a tall black man (tall in her criteria, because everyone was small next to Steve), shoulders relaxed, face open.
Hennessy slowed the car, one hand already moving to roll down the passenger-side window, her smirk forming before she even said a word.
— Hey, fellas. — Her voice carried a familiar playfulness. — Either one of you know where the Smithsonian is? I'm here to pick up a fossil. — She arched her eyebrows pointedly at Steve.
— That’s hilarious — Steve replied with a dry shake of his head, already stepping toward the car.
The other man let his eyes move over Hennessy, taking in her confident posture, the slight gleam of attitude in her expression, and the car she was driving with an appreciative look.
— How you doing?
Hennessy bit down on her bottom lip, suppressing the heat rising to her cheeks.
— Hey — she said with a nod, a subtle smile tugging at her lips.
— Can’t run everywhere — Steve settled into place.
— No, you can’t — the man replied, eyes lingering as Hennessy shifted the car into gear and pulled away.
— New friend?? — Henny flickered her eyes toward Steve with a faint grin.
— Sam Wilson, Pararescue 58. — Steve replied, resting his elbow on the window, his tone casual.
She didn’t miss the way he said it—with respect. And she didn’t bother hiding her expression.
— What?
— He is cute — she blurted, too fast to filter, watching Steve’s embarrassed reaction with far too much enjoyment.
— Oh, God. You spend way too much time with Natasha. — He rolled his eyes, but the laugh in his voice betrayed him.
— Come on Steve, we are both getting old, man. Well, you especially — she added with a wicked grin, shooting him a quick glance. — We need to invest in more than work.
_______________________________________________________
Hennessy didn’t like Rumlow. Nick Fury knew it to an extent, and the girl had already voiced her distrust to Steve several times. She didn’t have concrete reasons for it — all their missions had been successful, and the man executed his tasks perfectly well — so she kept it professional. Still, the Captain had promised to keep an eye on him. There was just something off. A gut feeling she couldn't shake. Something in the way Rumlow always seemed one step ahead of what he was allowed to know, something too sharp in his tone when he spoke to people who outranked him. She didn’t trust that.
— The target is a mobile satellite launch platform: The Lemurian Star. — STRIKE’s team leader was explaining the mission while pointing to the data on his screen. — They were sending up their last payload when pirates took them, 93 minutes ago.
She already knew all of that, of course. Her mission wasn’t the same as Captain America’s, and she could already sense Steve growing suspicious of the whole thing. His posture had stiffened beside her, the frown between his brows deepening with every new detail Rumlow delivered.
— So it's not off-course, it's trespassing. — Steve’s voice was quiet, aimed at no one in particular, but he was facing Hennessy.
— I'm sure they have a good reason. — There was a sarcastic remark at the edge of her smile, faint but unmistakable.
— You know, I'm getting a little tired of being Fury's janitor. — Steve’s tone came sharper this time, heavier with frustration.
Hennessy turned to him, offering a subtle, dry chuckle as she stepped closer.
— Relax, Steve. — The Stark woman gave him a friendly cut, trying to defuse the tension. — It’s not that complicated. — She spoke with a calmness meant to reassure him, even though deep down, she understood exactly why he was upset.
Steve didn’t like going into anything half-informed, and Hennessy couldn’t blame him. That’s how SHIELD operated, though. The girl was usually the first one to call out Fury’s vague instructions and morally gray decisions when necessary — and he knew it. But this time, Henny knew the information she was sent to collect was too important to question. If Steve knew that his mission was more of a smokescreen than a priority, he wouldn’t be okay with it.
Damn. Steve would be mad when he found out.
By now, Stark was near the plane’s side door, double-checking her parachute straps. She kept her eyes on her gear, pretending to listen to the details Rumlow was still spouting about the hostages — mostly directed to Steve anyway. Nick had briefed her thoroughly. There wasn’t much she needed to add.
Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Steve approaching.
— Secure channel seven. — He spoke into his wrist communicator, voice low and focused.
— Seven secure. — Henny replied quickly into her own. She offered a small grin, shifting the mood a little. — Did you do anything fun Saturday night?
— Well, all the guys from my barbershop quartet are dead, so... No, not really.
The corner of her mouth lifted into a dry laugh. It was clever, a little tragic. Typical Steve.
— You know, if you ask Kristen out, from Statistics, she'd probably say yes. — Henny finished securing the dot knot on her parachute’s belt.
She found it amusing: earlier that week, Henny’d been having lunch with a few agents when the conversation turned to Sharon’s undercover assignment. They were speculating whether her cover had started to produce any real results. It wasn’t written explicitly in the mission brief, but everyone knew there was at least the unspoken expectation that Agent 13 would build some sort of personal connection with the Captain.
When Sharon admitted that nothing had happened so far, Kristen, not as subtly as she probably thought, had suggested that maybe she should be the one to be introduced to Steve.
— That’s why I don’t ask. — Steve’s voice was calm as he slid his helmet over his head, preparing for the drop.
— Too shy or too scared? — Hennessy teased one last time while connecting the parachute strap to her waist.
— Too busy. — With that, Steve stepped out of the jet.
No parachute.
— Show-off. — she muttered under her breath, shaking her head as she leaned forward to follow him.
Henny wasn’t exactly on Team Sharon, not for any personal reason, but because it felt fundamentally strange to root for a relationship between Steve and a woman whose aunt he once dated.
Still, maybe he deserved a little teasing.
______________________________________________________
Hennessy touched down on the deck with effortless precision, her boots absorbing the impact in a fluid crouch. She and another agent joined Steve, scanning the surroundings as she unhooked the remaining straps of her parachute in a single, efficient pull.
— What about the nurse that lives across the hall from you? — the Stark girl takes off — She seems kind of nice.
Her tone was light, but inside, she was laughing hard. Watching Steve squirm under casual flirt talk had become a small, private hobby.
— Secure the engine room, then find me a date. — Steve didn’t slow down. His expression shifted immediately into mission mode as he gave her a dry look.
— I'm multitasking.
With that, Hennessy crossed the ship’s grid, movements agile as she leapt over the railing and landed silently on the lower deck. The weight of her gear barely made a sound when she hit the floor, knees bending fluidly to absorb the fall.
Her eyes scanned the corridor. Dim light flickered overhead as she moved, her footsteps quick and deliberate. She knew this ship’s layout from the blueprints, and she knew Bartoc’s tatics. If her profiling had been accurate, then Duran would be stationed near the engine room, covering the blind spot.
Hennessy crept forward, pressed low to the wall. A flicker of movement caught her attention up ahead.
And there he was.
Duran’s back was turned, one hand casually holding a phone to his ear.
— Hey sailor — the girl said when the pirate turned, a flirtatious smile and a nod before she quickly knocked him down, by kicking his knee. Henny then pulled out a device, yanked a wire from it, and wrapped it around his neck, tightening it in one swift, practiced motion.
His body collapsed with a muffled thud, and the momentum of her kick sent her backward. She allowed the fall, twisting mid-air with practiced ease as she descended one more level to the lowest floor.
She didn’t miss a beat.
Hennessy fired in quick succession at the pirates around each floor. She didn’t use real bullets; they were filled with a tranquilizing serum she’d had SHIELD labs formulate to her specifications. Potent enough to knock out a horse, but without a kill count. That mattered to her.
They dropped like sacks of stone.
None of them would wake up until SHIELD’s post-op crew was already mopping the floor.
The ship groaned beneath her boots as she crossed a narrow passage and ducked under a set of metal stairs, her focus narrowing to her objective. She had almost reached the last corridor when Steve’s voice came through her comm.
— Hennessy, what’s your status?
She didn’t respond. Not yet. Her eyes were fixed on a target stepping into view just ahead. If she kept silent, she might still surprise him—
— Status, Hennessy? — the man tried again.
Damn it.
— Hang on — There went her element of surprise.
The pirate had turned toward her voice, weapon raised. Her wrist jerked, activating the electrical device strapped beneath her sleeve. A pulse of blue-white energy burst forward, passing to her attacker with a sharp crackle. He spasmed and dropped instantly.
Another one lunged at her.
She twisted, grabbed his arm, slammed her elbow into his ribs, then dropped him with a kick to the solar plexus.
The device was working wonders at masking the small, involuntary electric charges that occasionally escaped her body during moments of tension — sometimes as a defense, sometimes as an attack. She was doing her best to keep it under wraps, both the surges and her quiet search for answers. But with Fury sending her from one mission to the next, there was simply no time to wait for a definitive solution. Getting SHIELD’s technicians to build something to help had been the easy part.
She kicked aside a fallen pistol and picked up a length of pipe left near the wall.
— Engine room secure.
The man crumpled, and she exhaled, her breath catching as she looked around at the trail of bodies behind her.

Ohhhh!! Can we talk about the Pokemon AU?? What ideas do you have for professors and gym leaders? What about a regional champion?? I 100% think that Techno is the regional champion and Phil could be either a professor or part of the Elite 4! Tommy can be the scrappy teen that is trying to accomplish the gym challenges and try to fight Techno for the title! Dream can be his unofficial mentor the one that comes by when things get tricky with the evil team and then had a dramatic twist of “he is the villain but actually not, he is just a tragic figure”
*crack my back and rise* Be prepared for a long post because I have a lot of them in my brain.
Original pokemon AU (base plan):
The original headcanon I had for the pokemon AU is more based around cc!Dream with a dash of drama from canon linked here! You are absolutely right that Techno is the champion and has and will continue to challenge and enter competition even outside of his region! Phil can absolutely be one of the professors! He can be invested in the study of fossil or death >.< The gym leaders are pretty loose as I don't give much thoughts to that tbh, but I do think that Tina as grass leader, Puffy as water, etc. Maybe I will throw in the newer mafia, who knows? I definitely see Tommy, Tubbo and Ranboo as the trio working their way through gym challenges, stumbling into villain organisation and accidentally saving the world hahaha.
Dream in this AU is more laid back, not liking to battle but his pokemon has maxed out friendship and can definitely rain hell on any trainers foolish enough to approach with ill intention. He works in a pokemon daycare during his free time and will give out friendship eevee for those close to him. His care to the pokemon means that most of the eevees have good EV! He definitely gets dragged into the plot unknowingly, much to the dismay of his close friends.
This AU is mostly chill and just shenanigans!
The B side of the Pokemon AU:
This, this is the part where things start to derail for me because if I can have a pokemon AU based on the cc why not go all the way to c!Dream as well.
So this is an alternate Pokemon AU involving c!character. In this side of the AU, c!Dream still possess the revival book and because of that, he forces himself to release all his pokemon with the intention to perish witht the revival book. In the process of destroying the book, he accidentally intergrate the book with himself so we now have an immortal walking revival book that is Dream. Worried that he and any of his close ones will get targeted, he devoted himself a life of a lone hermit and proceed to travel the land in hope to find a way to truly end his existence. He does, however, perform small miracle act subtly whenever he passes by someone or some pokemon in need of help as a way to atone for his sins. He makes sure to do it discreetly so that he would not gather unintended attention.
Alas, sometimes people still put two to two together so he still occasionally gets targeted. What he doesn't know is that most of the people he helped one way or another, does in fact help cover up his trail, misleading any hunters after him. Dream has one pokemon willingly follow him; a stubborn Charcadet, which prove to be a good helper by saving Dream multiple time in their travel.
Dream can hold his own against pokemons in this AU. He kinda has to, as he doesn't have a companion pokemon of his own for the longest time. Phil, as the angel of Death or the guardian in pokemon term is actively tracking down Dream to detain the revival book, but after he witness the bond between Dream and Ceruledge, he let Dream go with the condition that should Dream one day run into any problem bigger than he could handle, he would find Phil to help.
Techno is one of the child Dream helped revive on a whim. He was born sickly and wasn't supposed to make it past the night, well, if Dream hasn't shown up like a wet cat on his doorway. Techno still makes fun of him on the off chance that they met. Because of the second chance, Techno was able to become an extraordinary trainer. He helps out Dream whenever he can and even offer a roof for the homeless Dream to stay in. Dream refused ofc, but he would crash in from time to time to rest.
Speaking of the B side, it leads to an uncontrollable spiral in which I start imagining Pokemon with any and most of my AUs. Like would syndicate!Dream has an Eevee as well or would he has a Arcanine, I can totally see him accidentally taming Zygrade (Dog) without knowing it as a legendary. Also witch!Dream would have a Hatterene. Cornelius can have a Floette, Hubert and Indeedee works because of the bulter theme. Can you see how I am absolutely normal and not being able to talk about this has only made me more normal?
Anyways, thanks for the ask and sorry for taking so long to reply. It is...a lot.

hi!! sorry if I've worried anyone with my inactivity, I had another Flare Up and decided to make new character references for Art Fight at the last minute after picking my team (Fossils Rise Up)
I'll be limiting it to one character per game to make things easier for myself. I'll have references for them all posted soon 🫶

Interesting proposal by Nate Loewentheil in a guest column in The New York Times. Not only was his proposal thought provoking, but two of the comments regarding it by readers were also worth contemplating. Below are some excerpts from the column, followed by the two comments.
Here is a proposal for the environmental movement: Pool philanthropic funds for a day, buy a small plot of land in Washington, D.C., and put up a tall marble wall to serve as a climate memorial. Carve on this memorial the names of public figures actively denying the existence of climate change. Carve the names so deep and large, our grandchildren and great-grandchildren need not search the archives. This is not a metaphor. The problem with climate change is the disconnect between action and impact. If politicians vote against construction standards and a school collapses, the next election will be their last. But with climate change, cause and effect are at a vast distance. We are already seeing the consequences of our past and present greenhouse gas emissions. In coming decades, those emissions will wreak their full havoc on the climate, and it will take hundreds, possibly thousands, of years for those pollutants to fully dissipate. But in the short term, the most immediate burdens are borne mostly by the poor in America and distant people in distant lands. Misaligned incentives are at the heart of why some political and business leaders deny and delay. [...] I would first nominate those who have sown confusion over climate science, like Myron Ebell, who recently retired as director of the Competitive Enterprise Institute’s Center for Energy and Environment, where he sought to block climate change efforts in Congress, and served as the head of Donald Trump’s transition team for the Environmental Protection Agency. Mr. Ebell has argued that the idea that climate change is “an existential threat or even crisis is preposterous.” Then there are lawmakers who have consistently stood in the way of federal action, like the recently retired senator James Inhofe of Oklahoma, the author of the book “The Greatest Hoax: How the Global Warming Conspiracy Threatens Your Future.” [color emphasis added]
Below is the first thought provoking comment to this article:
There is, in Iceland, a memorial to a dead glacier - the Ok Glacier. It reads: "Ok is the first Icelandic glacier to lose its status as a glacier. In the next 200 years all our glaciers are expected to follow the same path. This monument is to acknowledge that we know what is happening and what needs to be done. Only you know if we did it." [color emphasis added] --Chris D., Colorado
Photo of the plaque at the at the Okjökull (OK Glacier) memorial.
Here is the second thought provoking comment to this article:
For reference this graph https://i.redd.it/ljifc828iui31.jpg is from the Exxon internal scientific report on climate change, 1982, produced by scientists working for that fossil fuel corporation. Look at what their graph predicted for 2020. Approaching 420 ppm CO2 and a rise of 1.2 C degrees above pre-industrial temperature - very close to what we actually got in 2020. Then look at what the graph shows for later this century, based on not reducing emissions. Very serious temperature rises, that could make agriculture very difficult in many countries. Yes, and then Exxon, having seen this, got involved in PR campaigns to "cast doubt" on climate science, to protect their assets. [color emphasis added] --Erik Frederiksen, Ashville, NC
1982 Exxon graph depicting average global temperature increases over time correlating with increases in atmospheric CO2. NOTE: Graph color was modified for greater clarity.
Fossil fuel companies like Exxon, and fossil fuel oligarchs like the Koch brothers should be included in any "Climate Wall of Shame."

Countries that weaken or stop their net zero and climate actions may be consigning their populations to decades of preventable illness.
Gains from net zero are often presented as global benefits and mainly for future generations. But less fossil fuel use also means less air pollution which results in local health gains right away.
For example, rapid health gains are predicted from policies for US net zero by 2050. By 2035, between 4,000 to 15,000 fewer US residents would die annually from air pollution, saving the US economy $65bn to $128bn, with even greater benefits thereafter.
A study, led by Imperial College London, has found that there are large health gains from UK net zero actions.
Dr Mike Holland, who was part of the study team, said: “Fundamental changes required for net zero will bring long lasting benefits to UK health. Or turn that around. If we don’t take the net zero path, we will be sicker. This would be a double own goal on both climate and health.”
The researchers looked at the net zero pathways for transport and buildings in the UK’s sixth carbon budget. Health improvements came about from less air pollution and also increased exercise from more walking, cycling and e-biking.
Some gains would be expected straight away, as air pollution decreased. These include fewer new cases of asthma in children and adults, as well as reduced hospital admissions for breathing and heart problems. This is consistent with recent health improvements that followed Bradford’s clean air zone and others around Europe.
Fewer strokes and heart attacks would emerge more slowly over five years as air pollution started to reduce. For lung cancer, the reduction in cases would be expected to lag air pollution improvements by six to 20 years.
But the gains would not stop in 2060. Children born in the 2050s would suffer from fewer air pollution illnesses as they grew up and aged as adults. Although less certain than the other illnesses studied, the greatest long-term gains could be in cases of dementia.
Prof Christian Brand, part of the study team, said: “If transport decarbonisation focuses mainly on commuting, how much health improvement and emissions reduction are we leaving on the table? Without policies that support all forms of mobility – especially the short, everyday trips that reduce car dependency – are we missing a crucial opportunity to maximize the full benefits of net zero?”
Participation is key to maximising these gains across society, especially amongwomen and older people. The study found that people walking or cycling for transport could expect to an average of five and half months longer life expectancy, and a healthier life.

"What's going on?"
Marty barely registered June's question. She was too busy focusing on the fact that Ratchet, Bulkhead, and Arcee just ran through the ground bridge, panicking and with Optimus leaning on them.
"Easy, Optimus," Ratchet instructed. "From the looks of things, you've been exposed to a massive amount of Dark Energon."
The Prime's gaze found Raf sitting on the cot. "I am not the only one."
Marty watched with worried eyes, following them as Optimus sat on the medical berth. He looked down at the injured boy, offering a small smile.
Raf returned it. "Hey."
June glared up at the Prime. "He's lucky to be alive."
Optimus smile changed to an ashamed frown. Marty looked up at her guardian, searching for any injuries. When she didn't find anything, the brunette sighed and slumped against his foot. "Megatron found more of the dark stuff?"
"A volcano full," Arcee answered.
Bulkhead nodded. "The question is, ‘how’?"
"No," Ratchet corrected. "The question is, ‘what?’ As in, ‘what in the world is the blood of Unicron doing here on Earth’?"
"The 'Cons killed a Unicorn?" Miko asked innocently.
This earned her blank stares from the Autobots and a facepalm from Marty.
"White horse with a horn on its head?" The rocker asked. "Prances around all sparkly?"
"Unicron–" Ratchet pronounced, "an ancient evil whose fossilized blood comprises the matter which we call Dark Energon, as legend would have it."
June held her elbow in one hand. "So, you're saying this Unicron is some kind of boogeyman?"
"Boogeyman?" The medic repeated.
"Make-believe creepy guy who hides in your closet," Miko offered.
Ratchet shook his head. "No, Nurse Darby. Unicron is very real – was," he corrected. "That is, well, I do believe he once existed. I just don't subscribe to the theory that his primordial life force is the substance which harmed Raf."
June raised her hands in a no good signal. "I've heard enough." She grabbed the rail on the cot and started to wheel it away. "Jack, please, help me get Raf into the car."
Jack blinked in surprise. "Mom, I thought he was doing better."
Bee buzzed anxiously and confused.
"Raf needs to be examined by real doctors, and Raf's family needs to know what's happened," June stated. "His real family."
"Mom, Raf's family can't protect him, not like they can," Jack told her.
"June–" Optimus stood up shakily, prompting Marty to move, but linger as if she could help him."–it deeply grieves me that I have failed. But I will do everything in my power to ensure that no harm comes to our human friends or any human ever again."
June's shoulders slumped. "Optimus, they're children. They do not belong in your world. They should be worrying about grades, prom dates, pimples. Not their own survival!"
"Miss Darby," Marty started, "Dark Energon is pouring out of the earth. It doesn't do that. This could be about everyone's survival, not just ours."
But she didn't waiver. "You're coming with me, all four of you, and they will not be coming back."
Instead of protesting or evening trying to meet a middle ground, Optimus merely said, "I understand."
"That's it??" Marty ran up to her guardian, craning her neck to look up at him. "After all we've been through together? ‘See ya’? What about our freedom to choose?"
"That may fly on their planet but not here on Earth," June said as she helped Raf get into her car. She looked at the teens, her mother's glare showing. "Get in."
"Do you really expect me to ride in a non-transforming vehicle?" Miko scoffed.
"Miko, I'm serious."
"You're not my mother."
"Miko," Bulkhead urged.
His ward glared up at him. "Neither are you!"
June looked at Marty, then sighed, "I'm not even gonna try with you." She turned to her son. "Well, I am your mother. Let's go, Jack."
The raven haired boy glanced back at Arcee. She had her arms folded loosely. "She is your mom."
Jack turned back to his mother, blue eyes determined. "I'm staying. I'm sorry."
Surprise over took June's expression, but she quickly replaced it with sternmes. She closed Raf's door and got in the driver's side, starting her car.
"Ratchet, activate the ground bridge," Optimus said.
"No, thank you," June snapped before pulling out.
From the rear window, Raf could be seen watching them as they drove away. Bumblebee followed for a few steps, his door wings sagging.
But there was no time to feel the weight of what just happened, as Fowler's voice broke through the silence. "Prime, do you copy?"
"I hear you, Agent Fowler," Optimus answered.
"Been watching the news? Mother nature's got a twitch in her britches."
"We know about the volcano," the Prime told him.
Marty ran up the stairs and turned on the TV to see what he was talking about.
"And the quakes? Seven major tumblers of the exact same magnitude at the exact same time as a volcanic eruption All over the globe on different tectonic plates, In theory, unrelated, if they hadn't happened–"
"–at the exact same time," Ratchet finished.
"Check it out," Marty said, remote in hand. "More good news."
The TV portrayed images of natural disasters all over the world as a newscaster's voice carried over it. "Freak storms unlike any the region has seen. Tsunamis threaten the Canadian coast while lightning storms pummel the Gobi desert. Meanwhile, electromagnetic anomalies plague urban power grids. These abnormal global phenomena are leaving most to wonder why now and what next."
"Don't tell me your 'Cons have built a weather machine," Fowler huffed.
"One that powerful?" Ratchet asked. "Highly unlikely."
Optimus furrowed his brow. "I do not believe the appearance of Dark Energon at this point in time to be coincidental."
Bee buzzed aggressively before transforming and driving out.
"Uh, what was that?" Jack asked.
"Bee said he's going to get Raf," Arcee translated.
)()()()()(
It wasn't long before Bee rolled back into base, Raf and June in tow. The boy stepped out and gave a half smile. "Uh, we're back."
"And we are glad," Ratchet told him.
Jack ran up to his mother as Bee transformed. "Are you all right?"
"I will be." June frowned. "Jack–"
"Mom, I–"
"I know. Me too." She pulled him into a hug. "But you're grounded till you're 30."
Jack looked at her in disbelief when he pulled away.
"25," the nurse conceded.
Marty would have been amused at the scene, but the impending doom playing on the TV took her attention.
"World leaders are classifying these bizarre weather patterns as a global emergency," the newscaster said.
"Global?" June asked as she ran up the stairs.
"And scientists believe the phenomena to be somehow related to the current planetary alignment."
The lift door opened and out walked Agent Fowler. "What have you learned, Prime? And you better not blow smoke up my oven." He froze when he saw a certain nurse, probably regretting his choice of words. "Ms. Darby. What a nice surprise."
June smirked. "Special Agent Fowler."
Marty found herself smirking as well.
"We have learned this–" Ratchet started, eyes on the screen. "–as with the so-called magma from the volcano, these earthquakes originated far below the Earth's crust, from the very center of the Earth's core, in fact."
"Quakes don't start there. Do they?" Fowler asked.
"Tiny tremors rising and failing in a consistent pattern, almost like..." Ratchet trailed off as he looked at the data points. His eyes widened. "By the Allspark! If I convert these data points to audio files...'
"What? What is it?" Fowler demanded.
"Well, listen." Ratchet's voice was soft.
Ba-bump. Ba-bump. Ba-bump. Ba-bump. Ba-bump.
The worry crease in Marty's brow became deeper. "A Cybertronian heartbeat?"
"How is that possible?" June asked, rubbing her arms. "A heart pumps blood. There's nothing inside the earth to pump except–"
Raf sat up. "–Blood of Unicron."
"Okay, hold on." Miko held her hands on in a time out motion. "You mean something's living down there inside our planet??"
"I fear that the Earth's very core is not comprised of magma as your science has suggested, but of Dark Energon," Optimus said.
"And if we're hearing a spark," Ratchet added, "then Unicron is the rising darkness that the prophecy foretold."
"So, how do we stop this thing from rising?" Fowler asked.
Optimus shook his head. "That, I am afraid, was not foretold."
"How can something be in our Earth's core and be alive?" June questioned.
The Prime hummed. "Such a thing is not unprecedented. Before the beginning, there was Primus, and there was Unicron. One, the incarnation of creation the other of destruction. For aeons, Primus and Unicron battled the balance of power shifting between them more times than could be counted. Only by creating the 13 – the original Primes who preceded me – was Primus finally able to defeat Unicron and cast him out. Primus became one with the very core of our planet, creating life through the Well of Allsparks, while Unicron was never to be heard from again until now."
Marty furrowed her brow, her mind whirring with how Unicron could be in the Earth.
"Maybe we can find the hole this Uber-'Con left when he dug himself all the way down there and fill it full of explosives," Fowler suggested aggressively.
"First of all: that would cause massive problems," Marty said, speaking up for the first time in a while. "And second: I don't think Unicron came to Earth. With his mass, he could probably create his own gravitational field. Random asteroids probably got caught in his field and formed Earth around him."
Marty stopped once she realized what this meant. "That means Unicron is Earth's core. And he's only awakening now due to the magnetic pull created by the planetary alignment."
Miko elbowed her lightly, whispering, "You gotta let me copy off you for physics class."
"Okay, well, what happens now when Unicron wakes up from his billion-year nap?" Jack asked.
Miko nodded. "Yeah, does he stretch and kapow! Earth poufs to dust?"
Marty looked at Optimus, searching for an answer in his expression. But all she found was uncertainty.
"You don't know, do you?" She asked.
The Prime looked away, seemingly ashamed that his ward was correct. "My guess is that Unicron has transcended physical form as we know it," he said. "Nonetheless, we must find a way to ensure that this force of nature never fully awakens. The fate of your planet depends upon it."
"Optimus, what are we going to do?" Ratchet asked.
The Prime's expression changed to when he was going to say something serious –more serious than usual.
"With Unicron's awakening immenint, the only logical course of action would be for me to scout an area with heavy quakes."
Marty stared up at him. "Optimus, you can't be serious. Going in alone to fight a god?? At least take Arcee or Bulkhead!" Her voice held more emotion than she anticipated.
Optimus looked at her and his expression softened. "I am the last of the Primes, therefore the only one who can stand a chance against Unicron." His tone said there was no arguing with him, but that he understood her worry.
"Your concern is warranted, Little One," he continued, "But trust that I will return unharmed."
)()()()()(
"Ratchet, this epicenter is consistent with the findings of the others," Optimus said through the comms. "Its terrain is rich in ore."
"So, what does that tell us?" Fowler asked.
"It follows that the natural metals in your Earth would be extensions of Unicron," Ratchet explained. "His limbs, if you will."
"So, he did have his morning stretch," June figured, "which is why these quakes happened."
Marty's worry crease was a crevice at this point. It didn't help when the computer system beeped, taunting her.
"Optimus, I'm detecting a swell in Unicron's spark activity," Ratchet warned.
Marty moved to the rail. "Optimus, you need to get out of there."
"Rest assured, Martha," was his reply. "I will proceed with vigilance."

I hear you about cara liss but if we’re being fair here none of the fossil Pokémon should be allowed to exist. I mean none of them can live out of captivity so we’re basically dooming them to lives of enslavement as trainer pokemon. I mean I can’t pretend I don’t love Amaura and it’s evolution but it’s Pokédex entry literally says it won’t survive long in our modern day climate because of global warming and the fact there are so many violent Pokémon these days
Okay first of all get the fuck out of here with that Team Plasma "enslavement" rhetoric.
Second of all, Unova's Terrarium has plenty of Amaura living in there and thriving. Yes, some are caught by trainers, but many of them have a tracker on them that prevents them from being caught so they can be studdied.
Third of all!! While yes, rising temperatures are a concern, that situation is being constantly monitored and currently poses no extinction threat towards any one species.
Fourth of all!!! You are *grossly* misquoting that pokedex entry. They were found in cold locations that had few predators because most predators couldn't handle those temperatures!!!
Amarua and other fossil pokemon are studied and monitored closely, both in the wild and in labs and fossil research centers. You cannot compare this to what Cara Liss is doing.
//OOC had to look up the pokedex entries, and I'll need to add this to the pinned post, but only the original Sun and Moon are canon to Luna's lore.

SpaceTime -- A brief history
SpaceTime is Australia’s most popular and respected astronomy and space science news program – averaging over two million downloads every year. We’re also number five in the United States. The show reports on the latest stories and discoveries making news in astronomy, space flight, and science. SpaceTime features weekly interviews with leading Australian scientists about their research. The show began life in 1995 as ‘StarStuff’ on the Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s (ABC) NewsRadio network. Award winning investigative reporter Stuart Gary created the program during more than fifteen years as NewsRadio’s evening anchor and Science Editor. Gary’s always loved science. He studied astronomy at university and was invited to undertake a PHD in astrophysics, but instead focused on his career in journalism and radio broadcasting. Gary’s radio career stretches back some 34 years including 26 at the ABC. He worked as an announcer and music DJ in commercial radio, before becoming a journalist and eventually joining ABC News and Current Affairs. He was part of the team that set up ABC NewsRadio and became one of its first on air presenters. When asked to put his science background to use, Gary developed StarStuff which he wrote, produced and hosted, consistently achieving 9 per cent of the national Australian radio audience based on the ABC’s Nielsen ratings survey figures for the five major Australian metro markets: Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, and Perth. The StarStuff podcast was published on line by ABC Science -- achieving over 1.3 million downloads annually. However, after some 20 years, the show finally wrapped up in December 2015 following ABC funding cuts, and a redirection of available finances to increase sports and horse racing coverage. Rather than continue with the ABC, Gary resigned so that he could keep the show going independently. StarStuff was rebranded as “SpaceTime”, with the first episode being broadcast in February 2016. Over the years, SpaceTime has grown, more than doubling its former ABC audience numbers and expanding to include new segments such as the Science Report -- which provides a wrap of general science news, weekly skeptical science features, special reports looking at the latest computer and technology news, and Skywatch – which provides a monthly guide to the night skies. The show is published three times weekly (every Monday, Wednesday and Friday) and available from the United States National Science Foundation on Science Zone Radio, and through both i-heart Radio and Tune-In Radio.
