(Panorama.it)

🔥 The Warm-Up Series: Part - 1 🔥⁣ ⁣ 🔹How important is it to warm-up before exercise?⁣ ⁣ Warm-ups are an integral part of a training session and are a widely accepted practice by coaches around the world because of its positive effects on athletes, both physiologically and psychologically. But, Is it really important to focus on the warm-up routines as an important aspect of training? And how big of an impact it can have on performance and growth? Well, this series of articles focuses on answering all of the above.⁣ ⁣ 🔹Physiological and Psychological effects (1)⁣ ⁣ Warm-ups have a number of physiological effects that can increase performance. These responses can be further classified into two categories - temperature related and non-temperature related. ⁣ Temperature related effects involve an increase in muscle temperature, core body temperature, and enhanced neural functions. Non-temperature related effects involve Increase blood flow, the elevation of baseline Oxygen consumption (VO2) and post-activation potentiation.⁣ ⁣ A warm-up that is dynamic, engaging, and specific to performance may not only provide a physiological benefit but also enhance psychological readiness (i.e., focus, attention, and improved performance. (Faigenbaum 2012). (2)⁣ ⁣ 🔹Ref: 1. Bishop, D. Warm-up. Potential mechanisms and the effects of passive⁣ warm-up on performance. Sports Med 33:439-454, 2003.⁣ 2. Reposted from @squat_university When you look at the research, there is actually a very LOW risk of injury to children who participate in weightlifting! For example, one research study followed a group of youth competitive weightlifters over an entire year of training and competing. After a full year, there was not a single injury found that limited training or required professional medical attention. (Byrd R, Pierce K, Reilly L, Brady J. Young weightlifters’ performance across time. Sports Biomechanics. 2003;2:133-140). . Young athletes can even find their 1 repetition maximum (1RM) without fear of injury (provided proper technique and supervision). Don’t believe me? Read these articles: . 1. Hetzler R, DeRenne C, Buxton B, et al. Effects of 12 weeks of strength training on anaerobic power in prepubescent male athletes. J Strength Cond Res 1997;11:174-81 . 2. Faigenbaum AD, Milliken LA, Westcott WL. Maximal strength testing in healthy children. J Strength Cond Res. 2003;17:162-6. . The force an athlete sustains when performing a maximal strength test (such as a 1 RM squat) is actually less than what they would be exposed to on a daily basis in most other sports (Faigenbaum AD, & Myer GD. Resistance training among young athletes: safety, efficacy and injury prevention effects. Br J Sports Med. 2010 Jan;44(1):56-63.) . What about growth plates? While it is true maturing bones can be 2-5 times weaker than the surrounding tissues barbell training, however, is not one of the leading causes of growth plate injuries to children. The leading causes include American football, followed closely by baseball, gymnastics and hockey (Caine D, DiFiori J, Maffulli N. Physeal injuries in children’s and youth sports: reasons for concern? BJSM. March 2014;749-60). . Stunted growth? Nope…there has never been any scientific evidence that youth weight training is harmful to the normal growth and development process (Malina R. Weight training in youth – growth, maturation and safety: an evidenced based review. Clin J Sports Med. 2006;16:478-87.) . Shout out @roryvanulft for being my athlete model today! ______________________ This is the 1555th #SquatUclub eligible post!! Children Health During Pandemic
Tumblr media
A Pandemic inside A Pandemic
Not too lengthy ago, workout epidemiologists used the phrase pandemic to explain troubling traits in bodily inaction across the world (Kohl et al., 2012). Now, we've got an epidemic of bodily inaction inside an epidemic of COVID-19 and each of those situations will worsen except motion steps are taken to assist save you their spread (Wilke et al., 2021).
Even earlier than COVID-19, a significant majority of young people did now no longer acquire at the least 60 mins of MVPA each day, and the state of affairs is even worse today. Throughout the COVID-19 outbreak, there was a lower in bodily hobby and an growth in amusement display screen time amongst women and boys (Moore et al., 2020). Further, overall performance losses in cardiorespiratory health (e.g., modern cardio cardiovascular persistence run) and muscular health (e.g., push-united statesand sit-ups) in college-age young people at the moment are being reported (Jurak et al., 2021; Wahl-Alexander & Camic, 2021).
As a end result of the COVID-19 pandemic, time spent at parks and seashores is down and possibilities for youngsters to be energetic at college and in health facilities have reduced dramatically. Given the robust institutions among MVPA and fitness outcomes, the bodily and intellectual fitness of young people can be compromised because of a discount in healthful motion behaviors at some point of the day (Figure 1). Prolonged intervals of bodily inaction can bring about muscular weakness, negative motor capabilities and an inevitable decline in a child’s self belief and competence to have interaction in nonessential MVPA with energy, vigour and interest.
In turn, young people can also additionally spend extra time engaged in sedentary behaviors considering motion will become extra difficult (and every so often embarrassing) whilst their frame mass index reaches bad ranges. Concurrently, intellectual fitness troubles can also additionally start to emerge because of restrained social interactions and multiplied pressure in the course of intervals of domestic confinement. Impairments in intellectual-fitness resilience, due in element to discounts in significant social interactions in the course of tough workout and game sports, can also additionally growth the chance of intellectual fitness troubles due to the fact young people can be much less capable of address life-converting circumstances.
Physical Activity Is a Polypill
A polypill is a drug that mixes more than one energetic components and may be used to deal with a whole lot of situations. MVPA may be taken into consideration a polypill because of the multitude of bodily and intellectual fitness advantages which could end result from energetic transportation, outside play, bodily training, deliberate workout and game sports. Gradually returning to a extra energetic way of life at college and withinside the network may be healing for young people who can also additionally have spent extra time in the front of a display screen over the last yr than at a playground, health club or sports activities field. While dad and mom preserve to stand many demanding situations in the course of the COVID-19 pandemic, returning to a extra energetic way of life can gain the entire family.
However, the go back to a extra bodily energetic way of life must now no longer start with aggressive sports activities. The sudden yr-lengthy pause has ended in worrisome decreases in bodily health and, consequently, maximum contributors might not be organized for the needs of sports activities exercise and competition (Mulcahey et al.,2021). Prior to COVID-19, pediatric researchers raised difficulty approximately the declining ranges of muscular energy in cutting-edge young people (Faigenbaum et al, 2020), and now there may be a actual chance of compounding the effect of bodily inaction with an upsurge of sports activities-associated accidents in younger athletes. According to Nicholas DiNubile, MD, an orthopedic healthcare professional that specialize in sports activities medicinal drug and ACE’s Chief Medical Adviser, “there might be a rash of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) accidents and plenty of different sports activities accidents, each disturbing and overuse, in younger athletes this autumn except preparatory energy and conditioning will become the brand new normal.”
Tumblr media
Since a sure quantity of muscular energy is wanted to leap, sprint, kick and throw proficiently, young people with insufficient ranges of muscular energy can be much less probably to take part in workout and game sports and, in the event that they do participate, much more likely to go through an hobby-associated injury. Supervised and nicely-designed interventions that concentrate on energy deficits have tested to be powerful in lowering young people sports activities accidents (Petushek et al., 2019).
This form of health programming, which incorporates resistance education in addition to agility and leap education, is urgently had to put together today’s young people for participation in sports activities. As efforts to combine MVPA lower back into the lives of young people are starting to take shape, workout experts have an excellent possibility to construct an infrastructure that acknowledges the foundational significance of muscular health early in life.
