God bless you for fighting in the fandom trenches as an actual Flesh Tearers book reader.
Thank you! <3
I'm going to take this opportunity to share my absolute favorite canon fact about Gabriel Seth.
In the short story Know Thyself by Andy Smillie, an Inquisitor tracks down their flagship, the Victus, to ask the Flesh Tearers some pointed questions about their ongoing beef with the Space Wolves.
We’re then gifted with this glorious line of description:
Seth knelt in the Reclusiam’s centre, naked save for an ashen tunic that draped his broad frame.
Yep! When he's chilling at home, Seth canonically lounges around in a ratty old shirt and no underwear.
Caught literally pantsless, Seth sends Chapter Champion Harahel and Death Company Chaplain Appollus to stall the Inquisitor while he scrambles into his power armor to make a suitably intimidating first impression.
As someone who dreads unexpected visitors on the weekends, I’ve never related to a genetically enhanced vampiric WMD more.

I want to see Gabriel Seth in your hand!!! Give him some love and sexyness!!!
Tumblr media
Well, it's Marine Meat Monday and even if he's not going full commando - have some sexy blood and imaginary bloody feathers!
I don't know much about him, but since his kind of ancestor (Amit) is my favourite Blood Angel, I'm comfortable enough drawing him after a little research.
Maybe I have even met him in a 40k-novel, since Ragnar has to deal with his Chapter, as far as I remember (I may remember it wrong, it's been a while).

Hmm this is funny
I wanna ask what did the Flesh Tearers do? Cuz I'm not familiar with them yet
The Flesh Tearers are a second-founding Successor Chapter of the Blood Angels; their first Chapter Master was Nassir Amit, nicknamed the Flesh Tearer by the World Eaters during the Great Crusade, and they took their name from him.
Like all sons of Sanguinius, the Flesh Tearers suffer from the Red Thirst (craving living blood) and the Black Rage (hallucinating the death of their primarch at the hands of Horus, causing them to lash out at everyone around them with psychotic fury).
Of all the Blood Angels' Successors, the Flesh Tearers are among the worst afflicted by the twin curses of their bloodline and it's rare for them to live past their first century before succumbing to either the Thirst or the Rage and joining their Chapter's Death Company to die honourably in battle.
Some even fall while they're still Neophytes, practically unheard of in other Chapters.
Also, while Blood Angels and other Successors usually show warning signs of the gene-curses, which Chaplains are trained to spot early enough to get them safely to the isolation cells of the Death Company, Flesh Tearers lose control without warning.
One second they're fine, the next they're raging berserkers tearing off the face of the nearest person with their teeth.
They also, like World Eaters, frequently lose control of themselves in battle, killing everything in their path until there's nothing left to kill, at which point they'll wake up to a painful moral hangover and some very upset voice messages on the vox.
As a result, the Flesh Tearers are infamous for causing heavy collateral damage to allied troops.
In the grip of their blood-thirst, they have been known to attack other loyalist Astartes as well and even each other; Gabriel Seth, when his otherwise impressive self-control was weakened by an Eldar psychic weapon, tore out the throat of a member of his own honour guard, and their Chief Apothecary, Nisroc, cut out his left eye in penance after losing control and killing one of the brothers he himself had treated.
~🩸~
Complaints about the Flesh Tearers attacking civilians, Imperial Guardsmen, and Sisters of Battle have been filed with the Inquisition on multiple occasions – however, while individual Inquisitors will occasionally try to expose them as heretical mutants, the Inquisition as a whole tends to 'lose' such reports since the Flesh Tearers remain effective, if messy, frontline fighters.
In 837.M41, the Space Wolves and Flesh Tearers joined forces against a Chaos army. The Space Wolves were enraged when the Flesh Tearers attacked Imperial civilians (the Flesh Tearers claimed the civilians were Chaos cultist infiltrators; it's unknown whether this is true or not) – resulting in the Space Wolves turning on the Flesh Tearers in a rather one-sided slaughter later named Honour's End.
The Flesh Tearers, vastly outnumbered, withdrew; the Space Wolves swore a feud against them; and for more than a century, the Wolves actively hunted and killed Flesh Tearers, destroying their geneseed, until the Flesh Tearers were almost extinct. It took the intervention of Ragnar Blackmane to end the feud and forge a fragile peace between the two Chapters.
~🩸~
Around this time, Gabriel Seth, the Chapter Master of the Flesh Tearers, was also summoned to stand trial on Baal and answer to the Chapter Masters of the other Blood Angels Successors and Dante himself for failing to preserve the masquerade and letting the Inquisition, Sisters of Battle, and Space Wolves find out about the gene-curses afflicting the sons of Sanguinius – putting them all at risk of excommunication due to geneseed mutation.
Gabriel Seth pointed out, rightly, that other Chapters of the Blood actually kill a lot more Imperial citizens than the Flesh Tearers, and while the Flesh Tearers only kill when they lose control in battle, others do it deliberately.
Even so, Dante, pressured by the other Chapter Masters whom Seth had offended by calling out their hypocrisy, sentenced Gabriel Seth to death for failing in his duty as Chapter Master. At the last moment, Astorath refused to execute Seth and instead convinced Dante to give him another chance.
Seth, realising the severity of the situation, began trying to turn his Chapter away from their path towards damnation.
He began picking his fights carefully and deploying in remote areas with no risk of collateral damage, pruned at-risk brothers mercilessly as they fell to the Thirst or Rage, and earned Dante's trust and friendship when he, alone of all the Successor Chapter Masters, personally came to Dante's defence against an army of monsters created by Fabius Bile and afterwards was the first to volunteer warriors from his almost-extinct Chapter to bolster the Blood Angels' ranks and defend Sanguinius' tomb.
Before the tyranid invasion of Baal, the Flesh Tearers managed to earn commendations from Imperial Guard officers and Sisters of Battle they supported (with a safety buffer in between their forces), and they were among the most resolute defenders of Baal, a number of them surviving impossible odds against the tyranids, Ka'bandha, their Thirst, and their Rage.
~🩸~
Still, the Flesh Tearers carry a reputation as berserkers and kinslayers, and even veteran Blood Angels get twitchy around Gabriel Seth, knowing he's as thirsty for their blood as they are for mortal vitae.
Surprisingly, Seth is practically a vegetarian outside of battle and refuses to drink living blood even from slaves, outright calling it murder. When Dante drank living blood to boost his strength before the tyranid invasion of Baal, Seth gave him a 'damn, you suck' speech about it.
So what did the Flesh Tearers do wrong? Practically everything, but they're trying their best and that's gotta count for something.

The Centenary Chapter Masters Convention is held in the most boring corporate hotel on Terra. What goes down?
Dante goes to bed at 8pm sharp, citing the importance of a good sleep. Helbrecht calls him an old fogey. Dante punches Helbrecht in the kidneys so hard one of them disintegrates. He then goes to bed. Marneus and Dessian nod sagely at this violently concise dedication to punctuality. Asterion and Gabriel laugh and point as Helbrecht curls up on the floor holding his stomach.
Tu’shan has taken all of the mini-fridges from the rooms and arranged them into a bar. He’s using the contents of them to make flaming drinks for everyone (he smuggled a butane torch in). He has to gently hand some of them under the “bar”, in the recessed parts of the fridges, because Shrike is lurking there.
Jubal and Tyberos are on a couch off to the side. They’re actually having a very pleasant, quiet conversation about the best way to clean servomotors.
Kardan Stronos is glaring at them from the corner for daring to have a discussion on servomotors without him. A Custodian is glaring at Kardan from the doorway for daring to besmirch holy Terra with his dour expressions.
