Dragonspine was even crueler in the winter months— which was saying something since the snow in the region was year-long. But today? The air was frigid, nipping at your nose and biting the tips of your fingers.

You huddled your coat closer, pulling the collar over your mouth to insulate some of the warmer air you were exhaling every few seconds. You’d decided to visit Albedo today- though, perhaps you should’ve waited until the weather was clearer. At this rate, you’d be stuck up at his lab for at least the next few hours while the clouds cleared out… not that you were going to refuse such a tempting offer of accompanying Albedo a built longer than usual.

The wind was starting to gnaw through the thick fabric protecting your legs, and you stumbled through the haze towards the area where you’d memorized Albedo’s vicinity. You peeked over the top of Wyrmrest Valley- finally spotting the light of flame through the fog and continued walking up- albeit at a faster pace now. You could feel the excitement brewing to see the chionophilic scientist.

He sensed your approach, spotting your figure as you finally reached the small dip in the mountain where he set up his things.

“You… what are you doing out here during a storm like this..?” He remarked, immediately pulled towards you as he insisted on helping your exhausted body stay upright. “You surely are troublesome.”

You huffed a laugh as he sat you down next to the fire he’d set up and rummaged in his pack for a portion of rations, handing them over to you as he sat near you. Oh, how the fire illuminated his features so well. You almost preferred coming to see him when it was darker out because of how well the golden color seemed to suit him

“I suppose I learn from the best.” You simply smiled, happy to see his familiar aquamarine blue eyes. “I came to see you, though maybe today wasn’t the best choice… hah.”

“You should have consulted Iris outside the valley before trekking up here…” He paused, reaching out to brush your hair.

“…You had a snowflake in your hair.”

After settling and warming up by the fire, you engaged in conversation with Albedo as he worked near his alchemy table.

“How long do you think this will last?” You asked, almost too enthusiastically. He looked out in your direction then past you into the fog.

“Hm.. I’m not sure. Either way, I insist you stay until the cold starts to calm. You really shouldn’t head out in this kind of weather regardless.” A beaker clinked as he set it down, reaching for something else on his desk and occasionally glancing up at you as you nibbled on the dried fruit he’d offered you.

“Guess we’re stuck together for a bit, then.” You exaggerated a sigh. You couldn’t be happier to have an excuse to stay with him, even just a minute longer than usual.

Albedo didn’t seem bothered. He sat cross legged at his desk, sketch pad in hand. Even sat a few feet away, the flame adorned his features in that gold hue you loved.

“There are worse places to be trapped like this. The wind doesn’t blow in this direction, so it’s easy to keep your body temperature higher inside an exogenous cave like this one. The warm air gets trapped inside easily.” He explained to you. He often blubbered random facts at you- but his fancy words tended to go over your head.

“Exo..genous?” You hesitated repeating the word. Albedo raised his eyes to look at you again, humming thoughtfully.

“It’s a word to describe a cave with a smaller opening that have a relatively short distance underground. A rock shelter, to put it simply.” He explained. You nodded in understanding.

A moment of silence passed before you stood up, walking over to snoop at his work.

“Are you still working?” You leaned over, eyeing his paper.

“Not right now, just sketching.” You tilted your head a bit, curious as your eyes landed over his sketch pad. He turned it towards you.

“Oh? What are you—?” You paused, feeling warmer inside your chest.

There you were. Curled up by the fire, hair tousled and tangled form the wind- eyes tired and drooped slightly, but warm. The kind of expression you hadn’t realized you were making.

You blinked. “That’s… me.” He nodded.

“Mhm.” He flipped to the next page— another drawing of you, this time smiling as you talked with your hands, mid-conversation. Then another, you munching on rations, quiet while you ate and eyes tracked to the side.

You were baffled. How did he draw so quick? And when did he…?

“How long have you been sketching me?” You asked, heart fluttering.

“Not for long, I admit. But I took the opportunity once you had gotten comfortable.” He looked at you with those eyes- oh, those eyes that made your stomach do flips and your brain spin in circles. A loose strand of hair draped over his forehead, blowing slowly with the small breeze sneaking into the cave.

“Do you always draw people like this?” You couldn’t help but ask. He hummed again, his fingers tapping the side of his pencil.

“Only when I can’t find the words for how I feel, Snowflake.”

Your breath caught this time, and you just stared at him. You saw the way the firelight reflected in his eyes- the way his usual calmness cracked just enough to let his vulnerability peek through.

“Albedo…”

He looked away momentarily. “I didn’t expect that reaction… I just supposed you wanted to know of such things. You deserve the truth of my opinions, after all.”

You didn’t say anything at first, the staring off as you subconsciously took in the space around you. It was like everything was quiet for a moment- no annoying little whistling from the wind outside- no crackling wood.. just his voice and the slight movement of his clothing fabrics rubbing together. You stepped closer, reaching over to gently rest your hand over his.

He looked down at your joined hands, eyes examining it like test results that differed from his initial hypothesis.

“You didn’t have to say it with words, anyway… I think I already know.” You smiled gently as those eyes met yours again.

Outside, the snow kept falling. But inside? Everything was warm.

The new 5.6 patch Genshin trailer absolutely floored me so I am actually making a post on this website instead of lurking and rebloging everything.

It has impacted me THAT MUCH.

What do you mean after playing this game since 2021 that WE FINALLY get a Mondstadt under SIEGE. (I was dreaming about this moment) And Kaeya and Diluc are defending it side BY SIDE. AND ALBEDO finally went nuts which was foretold since version 2.3 (Christmas 2021 everyone, yay 🎉, I just started my (soon to be) shitty job back then).

ALSO the chessboard pieces with Alice being flipped during the new Boss battle? Since there is a theory in the fandom that every single chess piece from the archons is playing their own chess game with Celestia ( or Tsaritsa? I don't remember), does that mean that THIS new chess game is on the OTHER SIDE happening away from the gaze of Celestia? (I am not good at crafting theories, it's just a food for thought.)

Let me tell you I was not this excited for a patch since Fontaine and Sumeru dropped. That was a little while ago.

Also the Welking Moon website will finally get an update after just sitting there for like a month.

I am so SO excited. I finally get to see and interact with ALL of the Mondstadt characters at once which is amazing.

You know how they showed a map where the characters are holding positions in defending the city? There were four question mark places, and on top of my head I realized that Bennett and Sucrose are not on the map. So either it is them (and for some reason it's hidden) or those question marks are characters from other nations who just so happened to pass by and help in the fight. It's really weird that those spots are cluttered together tho. Maybe some bigger battle related to the plot point of the story? Who knows, I am excited for it either way.

One thing I’m slightly worried about is that tomorrow’s AQ will lead to undeserved Jean hate and unfair scrutiny.

I wanted to write this much earlier but didn't manage to do so tbh.

Even though it's technically patch day already and I now only have a couple of hours before I can see it age like milk I still wanted to finish it for the sake of completion, haha.

it's crazy to me how many people are returning/thinking about returning to genshin because of the mondstadt tease for 5.6. to me it does kind of hammer in how the majority opinion seems to be natlan """""flopped""""" or smth, though not even 5.3 lantern rite brought this many people back lmao. so honestly it's just mondstadt's power and the english fandom's attachment to venti and kaeya (and to an extent, albedo) in particular. anyways I guess I was reflecting on the dissonance I felt between fandom reaction and my own emotions lol. like I find the characters on the announcement poster interesting, and the potential plot/lore intriguing, but only in an "ooh neat" detached way, and I'm nowhere near as hyped for 5.6 as I was for last lantern rite. if I'm putting it plainly I honestly dgaf about endgame lore and khaenriah in the way I think 90% of people seem to (am happy for you guys though, genuinely). in general it just clicked that I play genshin mostly for my blorbos lmao and my priorities are lowkey a lot different than most of the fanbase (any time liyue gang shows up it's a good time for me). so while everyone was screaming crying throwing up about [take your pick between sumeru/fontaine AQs] I was mostly standing emoji (they were good fun and interesting, but sumeru's designs made me take a break from the game; and besides lyney/frem, I still don't have a character I'm crazy about in fontaine). natlan was solidly mid to bad, but to me there was not *as much* of a quality drop as a lot of people feel because of the lower attachment I have to sumeru/fontaine characters. anyways, that's all. just queued and described an unfortunate amount of posts, honestly going through my likes and queueing drains me more than I thought. good night yall

there’s like a week left of 5.6, and i’ve managed to secure kinich and raiden’s signature weapon!

I lost my 50/50 on Xilonen's banner, but she came home in the same 10-pull as Mizuki

I just won my 50/50 for Itto at 22 pulls

The meaning of this is clear. The 5-star geo characters just love me

Ironically enough, I think I’m gonna wait to do this quest. Venti’s English VA said she may be in the game soon, and there’s no primogems waiting if you do the quest early, so there’s no f2p reason not to wait either.

Still, the fact that Venti and Mondstadt are back at all should be celebrated :)

Anyway, back to Fontaine where they somehow got every Male character from Natlan to go on Vacation lol

And Furina. I love Furina 💙

genshin 5.6 spoilers up ahead!!!!

just thinking about ragbros right bc my entire tl has been them and im loving it

imagine kaeya gearing up to go fight the monsters at the front gates on his own and he’s totally fine with it! he has his sword and he has his vision and he’s got this! and as he’s eyeing the approaching enemies, diluc appears by his side

diluc has never seen kaeya that surprised in his life, not since they were little anyways

they fight side by side like they haven’t done in YEARS. kaeya hasn’t felt diluc’s warmth or felt the air swoosh from the heavy swings of his claymore in so long it doesn’t feel real. diluc hasn’t felt kaeya’s ice supporting him through his heavy handed hits and fire in just as long and they’ve both missed it.

after everything is over, diluc is on his way back to the winery and he sees kaeya sat on his own by the fountain, watching the fireworks and the people around him with a wistful smile. diluc invites him back to the winery and oh the smile that graces his brothers face is so joyful

kaeya talks like he’s never talked with anyone before. he recounts everything that happened, he says what he’s been thinking with wild gestures and his lips upturned and diluc gives him his utmost attention, nodding and humming at all the right moments

bc while they’ve had their rough patches, they’re brothers in the end

i’m thinking about maybe making this a proper fic bc 5.6 has consumed my brain
