Prompt 28 - Light

The streets were oddly deserted, and they made it back to Remus’s flat in excellent time. Remus felt a wave of nervousness wash over him. He’d had guys back to his flat before, but they’d all been randoms he’d picked up from seedy bars, not rich, ridiculously handsome gentlemen.

“Oh, is that the famous kebab shop?” Sirius asked, pointing at the brightly lit shop window. 

“Hmm, oh, yeah, that’s the place,” Sirius looked it up and down. 

“That is an obnoxious amount of neon lights,” He said, squinting his eyes and using his hand to shade the piercing lights from his face. “Is that your flat?” He asked, pointing to the window directly above the shop. 

“Yup,” Remus answered. There wasn’t much else he could say. He was sure Sirius lived in some enormous old house or swish modern penthouse. 

“Does the light from those shine in?” Remus nodded. 

“Yeah, but I found some thick curtains in the charity shop and got a cheap blind from B&M so it’s mostly dark in there,” He shut his mouth, realising he was telling Sirius a bit too much about himself. “So kebab then? Don’t get the doner, get the chicken, trust me,”

Sirius didn’t listen and ordered a doner anyway. They sat outside at the metal table and chairs to eat. Sirius took one bite and looked at Remus with wide, scared eyes. “Spit it out,” Remus said laughing as he handed Sirius a napkin. 

“Oh my god, Remus, what the hell is that?!” He said in a hushed voice as he furiously wiped his tongue with the rough napkin. 

“I did warn you. Here,” He offered his own chicken kebab to Sirius. To his surprise, Sirius didn’t take it but leaned over and took a bite. He chewed it carefully and swallowed. Remus’s eyes were drawn the large bob of his Adam’s apple as he swallowed. 

“That I will admit is slightly better,” He said, leaning over for another bite. 

They sat there quietly finishing the food, Sirius refusing to take it out of Remus’s hands until it was gone. Remus wiped his hands on another napkin and dumped the undated kebab and his own rubbish in the bin. 

“So, erm, did you… Did you still want to…” He stumbled over his words, not quite able to get anything coherent out. 

“Yes, Remus, I still want to come up to your flat,” Sirius said, his cheeky, lopsided smile sliding onto his face. “If only to get a glass of water to get this horrendous taste out of my mouth.” He accentuated his words by loudly smacking his tongue to the roof of his mouth in the most adorable way. Remus had to fight himself very hard not to just grab the man by his jacket and kiss him right there under all the neon. But he held himself back and Sirius took his arm without prompting and Remus let him up to his flat.

Have been thinking about/ minorly planning(?) a comic. A bit longer than what I'm use to though.

Really wanted to draw a future scene and used it as an opportunity to get a feel for pages.

uhmm theres like a weird pause at some point in the video for some reason ibis keeps in the long periods of time im afk from the drawing soz.

anyways, if you know what kagerou project is, or at least who ene is, i based the concept of bf in this piece off of her (which is funny if u think abt it bcz enes original design appears to be based off hatsune miku).

basically, bf is a downloaded virus in this universe. (universe? dear glob i accidently drew another au). since i ddnt plan anything other than that,, again, i kept bf & gfs designs pretty close to canon; didnt wanna go through the whole design process just for this one doodle (tired).

bf lives on earth, and when [insert plot point that makes sense here], then bf sent himself through his computer files into space or something idk this part is hard to imagine on a whim but it happened somehow okay?

gf is living on another planet, bf basically sent himself to her via space signals or something, and together they get up to silliness (like in canon) and fall in love or something mushy like that. the planet gf lives on is super high-tech, but not in the weird corporation lookin way, more like the world in stray (i never finished the game but i got a gist of the environment methinks).

this signal also hit cass's spaceship, and it fucked with their systems (couldnt handle downloading a living being into the system) so they crash landed into earth. cass doesnt know why the ship crashed but she saw a flash of bf on the screen so shes on the hunt for him, thinkin that he crashed the ship on purpose in an attack (again, it was an accident). cass eventually gets another ship and makes it over to gfs planet for like an epic showdown or something. pico n the gang are taken as hostages since they have intel on bf. BUT hol on a sec before that happens-

bf and pico were together on earth (although they were struggling with their relationship). pico comes home one day and finds bfs physical body is unresponsive, leaving pico devastated. he figures bf isnt dead, however, once he sees the computer, and him n the gang try to find a way to send themselves to where bf is. when cass finds they knew bf, he hides bfs body in a safer space and sees cass as an opportunity to get to where bf sent himself.

when i say pico n the gang btw i mean pico, nene, and nell. and cass has a crew with her- hanzo, cylops, and alucard. theyre all from different planets, and cass has slowly gathered them as allies throughout her missions.

might build upon this idea l8r, might not,, although i rlly rlly want to rn, im tired lolz- hope it made sense, ik i jumped around a lot w the messy plot.

I didn't get a chance to vote on the poll, but also noticed what would have been my answer wasn't there so I'm writing it in now- I personally see it as he's their CREATOR first, manager second. They don't call him manager in a lot of materials, and they also don't call him father, they call him "Captain" or "sir," (this being pulled from largely the additional voice actor's portrayals at least, which I think are worth at least considering in a wider scope of interpretation)

That feels like the title or nickname he'd prefer they use, hence programming them TO use it for him- and that betrays neither fatherly intent nor producer intent, but pre-existing intent he didn't change (lifting from prior coding) or that he preferred. Beyond that he definitely refers to them as troops- it is their aesthetic, but it's more impersonal

the items you get for the lore on 1010 are toys, and while it's not stated, I've always thought there was an implication that he had made them- His relationship then isn't one of a father to sons, but of a creator about his creations, which IS different. It's why he's as willing to literally throw them at you in combat and, simultaneously, seemingly instinctively, puts a hand out in front of himself to protect them when the final attack is coming- even if they are tools to some degree, he MADE them what they are and he's PROUD of that- He doesn't want to see his work destroyed

Obviously this gets increasingly more complicated if you believe that 1010 gain sapience of some degree, but I still think the relationship isn't quite what I'd call fatherhood. He is simultaneously all the family they have and deeply, inherently unlike them- yet there is undeniably pieces of him and influences from him present in them, because every creation will reflect its creator in some way, in ways they can't even predict

Then, y'know, yeah, it's being a manager time. Ultimately he's gotta organize them and tell them what to do- how he feels about that could be a variety of ways, but he is doing it nonetheless, so something about it matters to him as well- likely the vow to serve the city thing, if leading a boyband is the way to ensure the lights stay on, then he's going to do it 'till his heart gives out.

To start, I do think you're getting a little caught up in the semantics of the poll, but since you're making the case that "creator" is different from "father," I'll hear you out.

And tbh, I really like that interpretation. It's a little more nuanced from what I'm used to seeing, and it is giving me something to sink my teeth into.

I do differ in that I don't think Neon J. personally made the toys or the base 1010: I felt like the implication of the MKI - MKIII standee was that 1010 has actually been around since the wartime era, since MKI 1010 are build more similarly to the recycled battlebots in the Metro Division. Parallel to that, I think it's implied that Neon J. is a cyborg due to suffering injuries in the war. Since they appeared to exist at the same time, it seemed more likely to me that 1010 and NJ's body originated from the same source, but not that NJ was necessarily the direct creator of either them or the toys. (Though, I will admit that knowing that the toy company is called "J-1" does imply that he has something to do with it. But to rectify that, I'm gonna say that he just bought out the company/factory, but he didn't start them.)

But that's just an argument of history. Both interpretations can still lead to the "creator" theory in the sense that NJ still views 1010 impersonally, but still fondly. Even if he didn't make the base, he still turned them into what they are today, which is still a lot of hard work and dedication to the craft.

It's not making him out to be this overly sentimental guy (which is ultimately what I dislike about most "father first" interpretations), but he's also not heartless, and I like that. It's retaining what many interpretations (including mine, sadly) sometimes miss out on, and that's that he's an artist, just like all the other stars. He values his craft, and 1010 are the result of that, for better or worse.

Yes!! Yes!!!! I really want to see and hear more people’s opinions about the characters ( to the anons I havent responded to, ive seen your HCs and adore them ) but i can’t finddd any people/blogs talking full on about…any of the chars really!

Late night ideas before I sleep!

Eddie gets possessed by the Venom parasite ☠️

I think since the main three have powers and they almost died, they slowly began to bond more while Eddie was unintentionally left behind

Eddie, being left out, began trying to handle small villain stuff on his own, like cleaning up messes and bringing back stuff left behind to Frank and Howdy’s lab for examining

In comes the Venom-

Eddie finds Venom in a vial in a destroyed lab, taking it back to the lab

Before Frank or howdy can examine it, part of it latches onto Eddie

Eddie slowly begins to get possessed by Venom, and it begins to mess with his head, trying to convince him his friends are abandoning him as more and more parts of Venom attach itself to him

Eventually, he’s being fully possessed and is coming chaos while he isn’t aware

He’s slowly distancing himself, losing sleep, barely eating, constantly sick, he’s clearly not okay

Once he’s fully possessed, he goes on a full rampage, destroying the town as he struggles to gain control of his body

Obviously the main trio are trying to save him, but are mostly thwarted based on the sheer amount of power Venom has because of his hold on Eddie. They need to free him

Once they managed to break into him as they recount their shared trauma while fighting off Venom, Eddie regains control and they can sedate venom

Part of Venom is destroyed and most of him is taken to the lab to be examined, but Eddie strikes up a deal with the parasite, be cooperative and he’ll stay as a host/vessel for Venom to use. He try anything sketchy, Eddie destroys the rest of him

Venom agrees and now he coexists with Eddie. They become buddies, it’s chill

Sob not Eddie Being Left Out Angst,, my weakness sobs. Fr tho those three have done some crazy Battlefield Bonding and Eddie's just trying to fit in and help anyway he can. He probably feels so useless oh my god waaaoudagahhsaaa

Imagine they think Eddie's just having a mental breakdown and is genuinely ill but it's actually an alien parasite. Well technically the mental breakdown is real,, but the alien's here to!

Having no control of your body/Possession angst makes me ✨Unbearably Sad✨ Especially when the person starts hurting others and all they do is watch. bonus angst if they're in Pain✨

Eddie's waaay too nice to this thing that tried to completely take over his body and hurt his friends but. He also knows that the symbiote could Die without a host. Probably Not Canon To Venom Lore At All but I like to think that for a brief moment at some point Venom was at least a little scared, and Eddie felt it while being Venom's host. So yeah Eddie is sympathetic and feels bad for Venom but it all work out in the end <3

Hot take: the Ben 10 fandom and the NSR fandom are pretty much complete inverses of each other when it comes to what kinds of characters they simp for.

Ben 10 has tons of sexy aliens to the point of literally featuring an entire species of buff leotard-wearing cephalopod people that you think would attract alienfuckers by the dozen, but like 80% of the fandom simps for the basic white boy and white girl.

NSR has an entire boy band of conventionally attractive anime boy robots who outright flirt with the female playable character, but like 80% of the fandom simps for the DILF cyborg war veteran with a screen for a head and the space-themed forty-something DJ with a bowling ball for a head.

The NSR fandom said 'those old men can GET IT' and fucking ran with it so hard that it's the most written about romantic relationship (going by ao3 stats) by almost 50 give or take if you're reading with an account or not- honestly? 'Round of applause, y'all really meant it, those old men CAN get it!

But I suppose it might be helped due to the more 'boss rush' style presentation of NSR, being a game centered mostly around who you fight rather than who you fight as. More time is proportionally spent in the media (game in this case) actually focusing on characters like DJ Subatomic Supernova - representation of the self-centered DJ - and Neon J - representation of boybands and specifically as the manager - and getting a comparably significant amount of focus; space themed object head has an ego so dense it LITERALLY causes a singularity (and causes spaghettification) and war veteran cyborg ordering around troops with protocols.

With Ben 10 god I fucking wished more people simped for Tetrax, bestie is just such a cool fucking character let alone how he was introduced and thus executed, but as a show with MANY iterations we kinda need to have a central cast (that gets narrowed down eventually into a central character). Whoever wears the Omnitrix - the one main driving force of the series - is essentially forever a main character, and that character just so happens to be Ben Tennyson after one alien device did what it did.

Despite it's main focus BEING the aliens that Ben turns into - in addition to being a universe with an active alien presence - it never particularly set out to be more than anything other than a sci-fi alien flavoured action story, centered around a human boy (who probably gets his egg completely shattered only to crack an entire coop of eggs in the aftershock) walking only a few steps in other species' shoes. It was only rather late that the actual extraterrestrial exploration of the series really came around, at least in full force (SoTO my beloved 😫). Kinda hard for EVERYONE to simp for your favourite side character when you've got like... seasons worth of a mostly human main cast, lmao-

I wanna ramble about how I don't like to call 1010 "family" because it's too clean to boil it all down to that.

If they became sentient enough to question whether the things they sing about in their songs is something they've ever actually experienced, it makes sense that they'd look back at each other and question if what they have is that kind of "love." And of course, it isn't—they don't share the things they lie about in lyrics to make the fans swoon. And even if they tried, in application, it would feel... different from what they lie about even if the actions are the same. There's something missing in that that they aren't fully grasping and they assume it must be love.

They don't love the Captain and they don't love each other because they don't want to seduce the Captain (it'd be violating so many things to even attempt that with someone that isn't their rank in the first place, if we bring the military aspect into this) and it feels... not the same to seduce each other. It doesn't work cleanly. They know there's something missing that they aren't grasping. Maybe they even look for this concept within each other and find there's something but it isn't quite that because all they know is pretend.

This can't be love, then. They don't feel love. They only pretend to.

If you asked them, they're certainly not siblings because they can't be, but they're also not lovers because they have something missing.

It doesn't feel natural to put on all of the charades for each other because they know it's all an act and they've seen each other both with it on and with it off and they know each other better than that.

They can't love each other because they aren't the fans.

And I love the thought of them feeling so complicated that they feel like they've formed the bond they now have over the span of decades but it's only been a few years at most.

They're not siblings. But they have the concept of a brotherhood with each other and it's complicated but it's human. They became the people that they are now in relation to one another, in each other's gravity, they've been all intertwined since they began to conceive the concept of being unique.

The relationship they all have with their Captain is mutually straightforward—he commands, they obey, and he allows them room to relax and he actually tries to speak and bond with them—but with each other? Not so much.

So, sure. Let's call them... bandmates. Sailors. Soldiers. That's what their occupations are and their relationship to each other on paper, technically.

They may still have enough of the military aspect drilled into them that 'brothers in arms' feels comfortable despite the fact that they aren't at war anymore. They might shorten that to 'brothers,' in the sense they were if they were more of unit than a boyband.

At least that's a lot less difficult for them to say.
