About those apps peopleare warning about...
So, yesterday, there was a true pandemonium going on on tumblr and probably also several discord servers about apps that profit from ‘mirroring’ stories posted for free on AO3. There was a massive uproar and people immediatelystarted to lock their stories and/or report the app. This lead to it swiftly being taken down in Google Play Store. However, to my knowledge, it is still available in the Apple Store.
Now, as someone who reacted rather strongly to the warnings circulating on AO3, I later heard an opinion from someone who uses the app in question, or at least asimilar one. As it is a person I trust, it threw me for a loop and made me question my own reaction. Had I overreacted? Is the app maybe not an issue at all and people should just chill?
My response to those thoughts was ‘sleep on it, see what you think in the morning with a clear head’. So that’s what I did. I ‘slept with the problem’, so to speak. And this morning, I came to the logical conclusion that I lack information, so I decided to see what I can find. I came across this site and all information I take from there, you can view yourself.
So, let’s start off with the description the maker of the app provides.
Tumblr media
Ok, so far so good. No subscription needed means you don’t pay anything. You can decide to give a ‘tip’ to the developper, but they admit it goes to them, not AO3 or the people who wrote the works. That’s if you want to support the app itself, not the writers or AO3. Aggravating, but acceptable, the person who made the app has the right to give the users a chance to support them, too, if they want. Let’s keep reading.
Tumblr media
Ok, wait a minute. So, ‘no subscription is needed’, but there actually is an automatic subscription when downloading the app? Which is auto-renewable and you can’t get out of it? Well, that kind of contradicts the earlier ‘no subscription needed’ statement, doesn’t it. Sure, 0.99$ per month isn’t much, but multiply it by 1000 downloads and you already gain 990$ per month, which isn’t negligable at all. Well then, let’s see how many downlodas there have been already.
Tumblr media
Welp. I’m starting to think the uproar was justified. Let’s look at the comments. Starting with the ‘positive’ ones.
Tumblr media
This is not a good start -_-
Tumblr media
Ok, so you can log-in into your actual AO3 account. But you can’t access your bookmarks? You keep getting kicked out? What about reviewing or viewing locked stories, then? Does that work? Odd...
Tumblr media
Repeated log-in issues... some stories are only on the app? As far as I’m concerned, this sounds suspicious.
Let’s look at some negative comments.
Tumblr media
Advertisements getting out of control. Wonderful. However, this same comment also mentions the app ‘used to be a lot better’, in a way that seems to imply it’s been around for a longer time. If it was, why is it causing an uproar only now? Is it because the developper is only now starting to try and gain profit? Or is it a misunderstanding? I honestly don’t know. I only know that all the comments I found were, interestingly enough, with today’s date, February 17th 2019. It doesn’t show anything older, even when I try to get it. Maybe I just suck and can’t find them or something, though, I dunno.
Tumblr media
This sounds like stealing, but let’s just assume it’s a bug and the person who wrote the comment will either get their money’s worth, or their money back...
Tumblr media
Some people seem to think it’s official, too. Admittedly not the fault of the developper, the name of the app and its description says it’s not official, so the way they want to stop using AO3 because of issues in the app is a bit ridiculous. Have they tried to log in on the actual AO3 site? Did it work there? If it didn’t, it might have actually been an AO3 bug, though I didn’t experience any issues lately...
Well, I think this paints enough of a picture, doesn’t it. Despite that, PLEASE GO TO THE PROVIDED LINK TO SEE FOR YOURSELVES AND MAKE YOUR OWN OPINION.
I didn’t show all the comments there are. I even cropped some out just to highlight parts that really stood out to me. Don’t consider this absolutely astute information because I am a fanfic author on AO3 and I AM BIASED, which I openly admit. But I wanted to find the best information that I could to finally decide what to do (beyond asking the app to take down my stories from it) as someone who doesn’t use Apple and thus can’t even think of ‘downloading the app just to see for themselves’. DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH! MAKE YOUR OWN OPINION!
I, for one, after seeing all of this, think I will stick to my previous decision. My stories will be locked, effective immediately, though hopefully it will only be temporary. Some authors say they won’t do that because they write their stories for everyone to read. And yeah, I do that, too, and I find it extremely sad that I don’t feel safe doing it right now. I’ve never felt it on my own skin, but I KNOW that writing fanfiction hasn’t always been easy on the legal side of things. And honestly, even if the likelihood is small, I don’t want my stories to be associated with apps that clearly seem to profit from offering reading material that is ALREADY AVAILABLE FOR FREE ELSEWHERE. So yeah. That is my decision. You gather your own information and make up your mind yourself.

Utopia - A Privacy Focused Decentralized P2P Ecosystem & Blockchain
Are you one of those individuals who believe they don’t need online privacy because there is nothing to hide? That is an argument but protecting your data will help limit the power of advertisers and companies who influence you every day. “Why should I care? What services guarantee web-privacy and how?” That’s what I will uncover in this review.
Utopia is a decentralized peer-to-peer network, With Utopia you can send instant text and voice messages, transfer files, create group chats and channels, send emails and conduct a private discussion. Currently Utopia is an application for Windows, iOS and Linux which offers all the features within one application. Utopia users get on their ‘Utopia ecosystem‘ as the application also provides a built-in Idyll browser to view websites within Utopia peer-to-peer network . Utopia comes with a Cryptocurrency which is called ‘Crypton‘ and is Proof-of-Stake. uWallet allows you to store, transfer your Crypton(CRP) or even create vouchers and credit cards, Utopia Network includes Utopia Name System (UNS) which is a decentralized registry of names that are impossible to expropriate, freeze or corrupt by 3rd-party as no one has control over the system rather its self-governed by rules set in place which are applicable to everyone. After you join Utopia you may wanna drop by our Hackology channel, which you can search in the Channel Manager
I came across Utopia ecosystem two months ago; it has been available for the last five years though. What do I like the most about this product?
Self-enclosed Ecosystem: This means that third-parties never use the data you use for communication, how I express my thoughts.
Enhanced encryption: Developers employed sophisticated mechanisms to guarantee web-privacy. Even if you are not a tech geek, you can Google what elliptic curves and unique p2p architecture are. These tools are proven solutions against interception and data leakage.
All-in-one: Utopia is not only a messenger but users can mine cryptocurrency, send emails, design websites, and use maps within one ecosystem. For now, I tested a messenger and created a blog with Utopia after signing as a beta-tester.
Decentralized: Thanks to blockchain technology, anyone can enjoy security online. Decentralization means that my email, text messages, and files are not stored on one server and third-party companies are never involved in the data transmission process.
Anonymous: It was a sigh of relief when I noted that I didn’t need to mention phone number, personal data when registering on Utopia. Each User has a key which never changes and enables p2p communication as the only recipient can decrypt and see the message.
Humane: Utopia is the only Ecosystem of this kind that applies technology to protect online privacy and complete freedom of speech with no censorship. One can feel free for self-expression without being tracked while IP, location, and files are never stored or shared with anyone.
All these checkpoints in combine make Utopia one of the most interesting tools for online privacy
 UTOPIA PRODUCT AND ITS  FEATURES
Let’s Explore Utopia and all the features in detail. Please note as this is a beta application many of the features might change in future or some even get removed.
Utopia Encryption
Each user participates in transmission of network data but only the recipient can decrypt the data. Advanced encryption ensures interception-proof communication channel to all Utopia users. All communication is secure and protected by Curve25519 high-speed elliptic curve cryptographywhile local storage is encrypted by 256-bit AES. Big Brother is no longer watching you!
Installing Utopia
Once you register on the Beta Portal you have to download Utopia Application. After installing the application you will be given a Hardware ID and a Private Key, these keys are required to activate your beta license which can be done from the Activation Page. Please keep in mind that your beta portal website login credentials are not linked with Utopia Application and you can have a different username for the app and the website. Once you activate the license your utopia account will be tied with your beta portal account. A step by step procedure for easy understanding of the activation procedure:
Register at Utopia Beta Portal
Download Utopia software
Install the program by following simple instructions on installation wizard
Run Utopia and create your account. You will be provided with Public Key and Hardware ID. Those are needed to activate your Utopia software
Login to your account
Click on JOIN BETA
Agree to the Rules and click SUBMIT
Click on NEW ACTIVATION and Enter Public Key and Hardware ID
Click ADD
Now your Utopia is activated and you are ready to test it
 Utopia Dashboard
Utopia is a feature-rich platform that is specifically designed to protect privacy of communication, confidentiality and security of personal data. It was created for privacy-conscious public who believe that privacy is paramount. Utopia is a decentralized network, with no central server involved in data transmission or storage. The network is supported by people who use its many high quality features.
The first glimpse we get of the application is at the Dashboard which has navigational menu for easy access to all of its many features for us to explore, use and report bugs while it is in beta testing phase.
uMail (Utopia Mail)
uMail is a secure alternative to classic e-mail. uMail can be sent to Utopia users that are in your contact list for now. uMail has all functionality of email localized to Utopia ecosystem. No servers are used for mail transmission or storage. uMail account, that is created by default when you join the Utopia network, enables unlimited messaging and attachment storage. Utopia ecosystem encryption guarantees the security of mail transmission and storage. Your uMail, as an internal part of Utopia, cannot be blocked or seized.
All those who value their data privacy would find this useful including activists and journalists knowing that their data is going straight to the designated user and no 3rd party can intercept their data. Currently the limit set for the attachments is 100 MB but as per the team it may be increased in future.
uWallet (Utopia Wallet)
All financial functionality can be found in Utopia built-in uWallet. uWallet allows you to make and accept payments denominated in Utopia cryptocurrency ‘Crypton‘, accept payments at your website, pay by Crypto Cards without revealing your Identity or bill fellow Utopia users for your services. With uWallet you can store value in Cryptons, receive mining rewards, use uVouchers, request payments and accept payments using the built-in API.
All of this while you remain anonymous. All payments are instant and cannot be reversed. Decentralized nature of Utopia ensures that your balance cannot be expropriated.
Utopia Mining — Crypton
Utopia has an inbuilt cryptocurrency called Crypton (CRP), which is proof-of-stake therefore a modest machine can also be used to mine cryptons through the GUI based Utopia application or with terminal based Mining bot which comes with the application.
Utopia rewards users that support the ecosystem through Mining by emission of new Cryptons. When you run your Utopia software or bot you will receive your share of collective reward. Mining does not slow your computer down and is environmentally friendly. You may also run a number of bots at several servers or computers to multiply the Crypton mining speed.
uNS (Utopia Naming System)
Utopia has introduced uNS (Utopia Naming System) which is a unique naming system and independent from the conventional Domain Naming System. DNS is subject to pressure and censorship from less than prefect international laws. Domains can be revoked or suspended due to multiple reasons, such as non-response to WhoIS inquiry or other register policies, non-payment, government actions and so on.
uNS, in contrast, is a truly decentralized non-censored registry hosted by Utopia Network participants with no expiration dates, renewal fees, suspensions and revocations. There is only one rule: First come, First served.
uNS registered name should be unique. You may register as many uNS registered names as you want while registration is not free and costs are paid in crypton:
Single letter uNS costs 1000 CRP
Two letter uNS costs 500 CRP
Three letter uNS costs 5 CRP
Four letter or more costs 0.1 CRP
Miscellaneous Features
Making Groups, Adding users, Chatting and Emailing, Sending Mails and Mining Cryptons might be the highlights but Utopia claims to be an ecosystem therefore they had to incorporate many more features so that users of Utopia ecosystem do not feel the need to go out of the system. List of other useful features within the Utopia Application are listed
Packet Forwarding : uNS Manager lists option of ‘Packet Forwarding’ which is an internal system allowing any utopian user to host a website which can be accessed by the Idyll browser, the naming system of the website is explained above, if you register hackology uNS you can make a website and it will open when you visit http://hackology/ and that is it. This option allows to tunnel any kind of data between users in ecosystem, making possible to host different types of resources including websites inside Utopia Network. At the time of writing few fellow Utopia users made Utopia sites which can be accessed at http://trade/ and at http://crystalforest
File Manager : All files which are sent or received in Utopia can be accessed from the builtin file manager which also includes an image viewer. As of now the file transfers are limited to 100MB.
Voice Notes : Utopia also supports sending and receiving of Voice messages which you can send to those who are added with you.
Dark Theme : The program comes in standard theme but how can they miss out a Dark Theme for the privacy savvy ? Users can opt for dark theme by going to Tools > Settings > Interface and selecting the ‘Dark Space‘ theme
Utopia API : Utopia comes with a comprehensive API for users to incorporate in their own projects. For instance, using API you can accept payments denominated in Crypton at your website, automatically manage your channels, send instant messages and much more. To get started once you enable the API you can also access the API documentation.
Network Fee Structure : Utopia provides us with an option to view all the network enforced fee and they are updated live on the network as the fee structure changes, thus one can stay updated with the current fee structure. You can access the Network Fee from uWallet > Treasury Data > Network Fee
Game : Utopia also supports in-app games which can be played in multiplayer, as of writing there is a working Chess game.
Utopia Reward System
Utopia is providing a very lucrative reward system, where Beta Testers, Contributors & Promoters all can join the beta portal and help test and find bugs which in return gets you ‘pts‘ where 1 pt equals to 1 USD which are paid in BTC.
We truly believe that your participation has to be exciting and mutually beneficial. Utopia Beta Program rewards your enthusiasm, commitment and dedication. No matter what is your skill set you will find an opportunity to contribute to Utopia P2P Project development
At the time of writing I have already cashed out $560 and transferred them to my own bitcoin wallet. I can vouch that if you have the eye to spot bugs it is a good place to help them and in return get paid. Uptil now Utopia team has paid out $3583 to beta testers which is a decent figure keeping in view that they launched 7 days back and still 3 months of beta testing period is left.
If you are not a bug finding sort you can still help and give them suggestions and ideas on how to improve their application or go ahead and share this on social media pages and get paid for being a ‘promoter’. Withdrawals are done manually and as per the rule it can take up-to 48 hours, but I have noticed that within an hour or so they release the funds.
Do Earn but DONT SPAM they have mentioned categorically that have zero spam tolerance

RECENT NEWS & STUDIES, late April 2019
Tumblr media
Welcome to my latest summary of recent news & studies including search, analytics, content marketing, social media & ecommerce! This covers articles I came across from April 9th to May 2, although some may be older than that.
I am really interested in hearing what you think of this new format - please leave a comment below, or convo, Tweet or email me through my website. Let’s make this as useful as possible!
TOP NEWS & ARTICLES
US Amazon sellers were told via email that they will have to pay taxes on some Amazon fees, as Etsy has been doing with sellers in the EU and in Quebec.
The Instagram look may be dropping out of favour; apparently, reality is in. “Instagram museums and walls were built to allow normal people to take influencer-quality photographs—but they worked so well, those types of photos became common enough that they don’t resonate like they used to. “#unfiltered
In case you missed it, my review of Etsy’s Spring & Summer Trends Guide, including all of the keyword data (which you do need to check out, as they reveal some interesting search info).
ETSY NEWS
Etsy published a new census/survey of sellers in its 6 core countries, and also did a summary (if you don’t want to read the whole thing). “More than nine out of ten Etsy sellers (91%) are the sole owner of their businesses.”... “The majority (82%) of Etsy sellers would like to grow their business, but more than three out of five would not want to grow so big that they would have to hire more help.”
The bugs & errors with financial statements and records continue; Etsy botched the VAT statements yet again, even overwriting them all the way back to 2016. No word on whether any sellers have notified EU authorities on this yet.
New seller handbook article covers advertising; not much new or gripping, but it does discuss general ad approaches, not just Etsy’s.
There is also a new free shipping tool, in case you didn’t realize that Etsy wants more sellers to offer free shipping more often. “When we talk to shoppers during research, many say things like “I want to feel like I’m getting a deal!” and “I would love to see free shipping across the board, even if it meant increased prices.” Offering free shipping can be a great way to give customers like these the shopping experience they are looking for.”
CEO Josh Silverman participated in The Wall Street Journal’s “In the Elevator” interview series [video link]. Every 90 seconds, an engagement ring or wedding ring sells on Etsy. He also talks about free & fast shipping not always being a reasonable expectation when shopping on Etsy, unlike Amazon.
Speaking of free shipping, a limited number of US customers will be getting it from Etsy, with Etsy reimbursing sellers for the costs. Non-US sellers and buyers get nothing.
Etsy’s 2019 1st quarter results will be available May 8.
SEO: GOOGLE & OTHER SEARCH ENGINES
Rand Fishkin released Part 5 of his Learn SEO in 1 Hour series: technical SEO [video & written transcript]. This is the one most of you can skip or just skim over, as it does talk a lot about coding. Some tips are important to everyone, however, like page linking/site structure (for websites), and having https set up.
Part 6 covers link building, in 10 minutes. Remember, if you are going to put effort into getting links, do it for your website & not your Etsy shop or other marketplace page. If you are creating traffic, make sure you own it.
Don’t forget looking beyond Google for your search engine traffic; this podcast [with written transcript] breaks down an approach to several of the biggest ones beyond Google. Spoiler: they only recommend worrying about the biggest, Bing, if you have around 1000 unique search visitors to your website per day.
How to get keyword ideas from the Google search results: there’s a lot more available now, beyond the search bar suggestions.
Google is asking local businesses if they would pay for their Google My Business listings. This possibility raises concerns about the impact on organic rankings.
More SEO tips for Amazon, including discussion of the various factors involved.
If pages on your website aren’t indexed by Google, there are some steps you can take to fix them. (For websites only, not Etsy shops)
Advanced/semi-advanced content: Great tips on using bookmarklets in Chrome to get SEO things done quickly. (A lot of these involve tools that work best in the paid version, so I suspect most of us will not have much use for this, yet.)
Possible Google algorithm update last week. (I am seeing changes)
CONTENT MARKETING & SOCIAL MEDIA (includes blogging & emails)
Looking for new hashtags for your social media accounts? Try: https://www.tagshitter.com  (apologies for the name; that’s what they call it. It’s good, too! Just like its regular keyword research partner, http://keywordshitter.com/ )
Email subject lines [infographic] are crucial to top interaction with your newsletter etc. Includes Dos & Don’ts, plus the shockingly low open rates in most industries.
Selling through social media directly is a great way to avoid people losing interest as they keep clicking. Note that this seems to work best with items under $50, though, which they suggest solutions to in the next part of the article.
Despite all the scandals and negative media coverage, US social media use hasn’t really changed in the past few years. “A 2018 Center survey found that some Facebook users had recently taken steps to moderate their use of the site – such as deleting the Facebook app from their phone or taking a break from the platform for some time. But despite these findings and amid some high profile controversies, Facebook users as a whole are just as active on the site today as they were a year ago.”
Facebook scandal watch:  FB’s “stock price jumped after it said it expects to incur a fine of up to $5 billion from the Federal Trade Commission. And that’s all you really need to know about whether the historically large penalty matters to the company.”
Also:
they admitted to asking for your email password then importing all of your contacts. “...Facebook disclosed to Business Insider that 1.5 million people's contacts were collected this way and fed into Facebook's systems, where they were used to improve Facebook's ad targeting, build Facebook's web of social connections, and recommend friends to add.”
The Canadian Privacy Commissioner is taking FB to court over breaches of Canadian privacy law.
But hey, it’s all fine, because they beat earnings expectations in the first quarter.
70% of YouTube videos watched are recommended by its algorithm. “ The recommendations are fueled by the artificial-intelligence arm, Google Brain, of YouTube’s parent company. The machine-learning models help identify videos that aren’t exactly what you just watched, but similar enough that you might like them.“
Does directing people to the link in your Instagram bio really work? Testing says that it probably doesn’t work for most accounts, and more importantly, that Instagram may be limiting the algorithm visibility of posts that direct visitors to the link in your bio.
Twitter has now limited the number of accounts you can follow in 1 day, to 400 down from 1000; this is intended to cut back on spammers.
US Twitter users are better educated & better off than the average American.(Good article for target market considerations)
ONLINE ADVERTISING (SEARCH ENGINES, SOCIAL MEDIA, & OTHERS)
Amazon is reducing/removing the ads for its own products, possibly due to increased complaints of unfair competition. “Amazon is now the third-largest digital advertising platform, behind Google and Facebook”, and could grow 50% this year alone, based on projections.
Facebook retargeting tips. And everything you need to know about the Facebook pixel for tracking your ad performance.
STATS, DATA, OTHER TRACKING
Some Google Analytics tips for websites - almost beginner level!
The Google Search Console delays are nearly all fixed.
Stats programs all give you different numbers, and that isn’t likely to improve. (This piece is semi-advanced; don’t bother with it if you aren’t a stats geek.)
ECOMMERCE NEWS, IDEAS, TRENDS
eBay’s Spring Marketplace Updates include several back end changes and a fee increase for sellers who run afoul of eBay’s seller performance standards.
Amazon sellers can buy so-called “black hat” services to beat its algorithms. These include tips from Amazon employees who are making money by reporting on Amazon’s inner workings. Amazon “also said it takes action against sellers who pay for internal information; penalties include terminating their selling accounts, deleting reviews, withholding funds, and taking legal action.” No doubt the company already has closed some of the loopholes discussed in the article.
Amazon also fires warehouse workers by algorithm, based on productivity.
GoDaddy launches an ecommerce sharing tool that lets you list across multiple websites including your standalone. Current marketplace options include Etsy, Amazon, eBay, Jet & Walmart. They bought Sellbrite as part of this move. Quite a few different entities are releasing this type of service, so shop around if it is something you are interested in.
eBay released their 1st quarter 2019 results on April 23. Total sales were down 4% from 2018 (they were close to even when currency fluctuations were accounted for), but eBay’s own income from seller fees was up. “eBay reduced their marketing by a significant amount where their cash was being used to effectively subsidise the sales of high value items. Put simply, eBay have been buying sales and now they’ve stopped and this has seen a reduction in high ticket items being sold in comparison to sales of lower value items.” Easter being later this year may have slowed ecommerce growth overall in the quarter.
...but Amazon reported record revenue, up 16.9% over 2018. Despite that, analysts note that growth is slowing, & that Amazon’s own projections for the second quarter are lower than many predicted. “Amazon’s CFO Brian Olsavsky said during the call with analysts that part of the lower guidance is due to an $800 million investment in making free one-day delivery shipping the default for Prime members.” - if you thought buyers wanted stuff yesterday already, wait til this becomes the norm ... I mean, Walmart & Target stocks fell after the announcement. Walmart is already hinting at offering the same.
You can return your Amazon purchases at Kohl’s in the US, starting everywhere in July. Ease of returns is going to be a bigger battleground in the next few years, as retailers continue to increase free & speedy shipping options.
BUSINESS & CONSUMER STUDIES, STATS & REPORTS; SOCIOLOGY & PSYCHOLOGY, CUSTOMER SERVICE
Generation Z will be making 40% of US retail purchases by next year; they are going to change a lot about selling. “ Fair trade products, ethical business practices, and a strong mission statement have never been more essential. Vend reports, “Research has shown that this particular generation cares about various environmental issues (76% are concerned about humanity’s impact on the planet) as well as social causes such as racial, gender, and income inequality.” [Gen Z come after millennials, and are currently more numerous than millennials or boomers.]
Millennials & Gen Z are big gift card buyers in the US - over 1/3 buy a card every 3 months.
Brick & mortar stores & malls are using your phone location data (location analytics) to make marketing and product decisions. “Every company interviewed for this story said it chooses not to use information that could identify individuals. But for the most part they’re on an honor system because rules governing data remain relatively lax.” This surprised me: “To glean details, including an individual’s age, income, ethnicity, education level, number of children and more, firms connect the phone’s evening location with U.S. Census data”
MISCELLANEOUS
US copyright law: the USSC rules that your copyright registration must be finished/approved before you can sue an infringer in federal court.
If you hate Gmail’s current layout, you will love this Chrome extension.
And if you use Google Sheets fairly often, you will likely learn something useful from these tips.
Google’s parent company, Alphabet, missed industry revenue expectations in the first quarter of 2019.

Here are the 85+ startups that launched today at Y Combinator’s W19 Demo Day 1
Y Combinator’s incubator classes have gotten huge.
With over 200 companies, the Winter 2019 class is by far YC’s largest yet. Meanwhile, the incubator prepares to shift its headquarters from Mountain View to San Francisco.
It’s so large, in fact, it’s had to change up the way it does Demo Day. Rather than all pitches happening on one stage, they were split across two stages (the “Pioneer” and “Mission” stages) running in parallel. So even if you were in the building, you couldn’t see all the pitches in person.
We were there — and as we do with each class, we’ve brought back our notes on everything we saw. Here are the 85+ companies that pitched today. Come back tomorrow for Day 2!
Pioneer Stage:
Career Karma: Hundreds of millions of people will need to change jobs in the coming years. Career Karma gives them a placement quiz and gets them accepted at coding bootcamps and other training programs that pay the startup $1000 per student. With income sharing agreements growing in popularity, plenty of job skill providers will be willing to pay to enroll the highest potential students.
VanGo: An on-demand ride service for getting your kids and teens around. The founders say that, because “moms trust other moms”, 85% of drivers on their service are moms and all of them are women. They plan to expand into other verticals to help parents down the road.
Team Mobot: Simulated user interface testing doesn’t catch all the bugs and can be complex for less tech savvy companies to perform. Team Mobot offers a fleet of robots that physically test any app’s UI on real devices to perform QA testing and spot bugs. Team Mobot’s fleet learns over time to increase accuracy, and the startup plans to invade the Internet Of Things and medical device verticals next.
Bento Club: Cheaper lunch delivery for office workers. Customers pre-order food from a select set of restaurants, and Bento picks it up and brings all orders to a shared pickup spot within one block of the customer’s office. 38% of customers are coming from referrals.
Basilica: Most teams trying to build artificial intelligence systems don’t have enough data, and that data can be expensive to collect. Basilica says its transfer learning method allows businesses to create accurate AI with just 1000 data points instead of 1 million. Basilica generates network effect by using data from across its clients to improve efficiency for each vertical that teams will need to keep up with Google.
Keynua: In Latin America, signing documents requires tedious identity verifications. With Keynua you record a short video to verbally agree to a document, and they use existing records to verify your identity. This team’s previous product (Cinepapaya) was acquired by Fandango in 2016.
Lumos: Doctors use Google 40X more than professional tools for finding medical information, but Google is full of ads and results are meant for patients not doctors. Lumos offers a medical Q&A search engine for doctors who pay $15 per month. A trial at UPenn saw 50% of the med students using Lumos each day within weeks of launch. Lumos says it has more potential business opportunities based off understanding what studies and info doctors trust, and having access to them at critical decision points during treatment.
Traverse Technologies: Traverse uses software to identify potential sites for wind and hydro power generation. The company then buys and resells those sites. They estimate that a plot that they buy for $750k can be resold for $5M. The currently have about $50M worth of Letters of Intent.
Basement: A social network for your close friends. Feed broadcasting social networks feel impersonal, and inevitably bloat with distant acquaintances you’re shy about sharing with. Basement is designed for college students and grads to just add their best friends. It offers Instagram-style posting tools, but the intimacy leads to comment threads that feel more like WhatsApp chat. Basement will have to get users to break the social contract of courtesy so they don’t friend the wrong people, but has a chance to be where Facebook wants to go.
CosmicJS: A drop-in, easier to manage alternative to WordPress. The company says that KFC, MLB, and Dailymotion are already customers. Currently making roughly $10k in monthly recurring revenue, and they say that’s growing about 15% monthly.

Ravn builds heads-up displays that let soldiers and law enforcement see around corners thanks to cameras on their gun, drones, or elsewhere. The ability to see the enemy while still being behind cover saves lives, and Ravn already has $490,000 in Navy and Air Force contracts. With a CEO who was a Navy Seal who went on to study computer science plus experts in augmented reality and selling hardware to the Department Of Defense, Ravn could deliver the inevitable future of soldier heads-up displays.
54gene: 54gene aims to be 23andMe for Africa. The company says that competitor data is limited because their users are mostly white. By focusing on Africa, the company can help detect and identify DNA markers that might otherwise go overlooked. Co-founder Abasi Ene-Obong has a PhD in cancer biology from the University of London.
Slapdash: Enterprise apps run slow and it can be tough to find files or messages across them. Hack Android and get rewarded  Up to $200,000 effective June 1, 2017
Android Security Rewards Program Rules
The Android Security Rewards program recognizes the contributions of security researchers who invest their time and effort in helping us make Android more secure. Through this program we provide monetary rewards and public recognition for vulnerabilities disclosed to the Android Security Team. The reward level is based on the bug severity and increases for complete reports that include reproduction code, test cases, and patches.
Scope of program
This program covers security vulnerabilities discovered in the latest available Android versions for Pixel phones and tablets. This set of devices will change over time, but as of June 2017 this covers:
Pixel and Pixel XL
Pixel C
Android Security Rewards covers bugs in code that runs on eligible devices and isn't already covered by other reward programs at Google. Eligible bugs include those in AOSP code, OEM code (libraries and drivers), the kernel, and the TrustZone OS and modules. Vulnerabilities in other non-Android code, such as the code that runs in chipset firmware, may be eligible if they impact the security of the Android OS.
Non-AOSP apps developed by Google and published in Google Play may be covered under our Google VRP, which also covers server-side issues. Vulnerabilities in Chrome may be handled under the Chrome Rewards program.
At this time, vulnerabilities that only affect other Google devices (such as Nexus Player, Android Wear, or Project Tango) are not eligible for Android Security Rewards.
Qualifying vulnerabilities
In general, we will reward critical, high, and moderate severity vulnerabilities. Patches that don't necessarily fix a vulnerability but provide additional hardening may qualify for Google Patch Rewards.
There are a few rules that we follow when rewarding a vulnerability report:
Only the first report of a specific vulnerability will be rewarded.
A bug report must include as much detail as possible, a buildable proof of concept, crash dump if available, and any additional repro steps. For tips on how to submit complete reports, refer to Bug Hunter University.
Bugs initially disclosed publicly, or to a third-party for purposes other than fixing the bug, will typically not qualify for a reward. Google encourages responsible disclosure, and we believe responsible disclosure is a two-way street; it's our duty to fix serious bugs within a reasonable time frame.
There are also a few classes of vulnerabilities that will generally not qualify for a reward:
Issues that require complex user interaction. For example, if the vulnerability requires installing an app and then waiting for a user to make an unlikely configuration change.
Phishing attacks that involve tricking the user into entering credentials.
Tap-jacking and UI-redressing attacks that involve tricking the user into tapping a UI element.
Issues that only affect userdebug builds or require debugging access (ADB) to the device.
Bugs that simply cause an app to crash.
Low severity issues typically do not qualify for rewards, as described in Bug Hunter University, with some exceptions.
Reward amounts
The reward amount depends on the severity of the vulnerability and the quality of the report. A valid but low quality bug report may receive up to $200. A complete report includes as much detail as possible, a proof of concept, crash dump if available, and any additional repro steps. The proof of concept should be standalone reproduction code or a malformed file that reproduces the issue. Malformed files that are copyright material or can’t be distributed with a CTS test may qualify for a lower reward amount.
This table shows the reward amounts for typical rewards, effective June 1, 2017. (Any submissions prior to June 1 will be paid using the previous rewards table):
SeverityComplete Report* + PoCPayment range (if report includes an exploit leading to Kernel compromise)
**
Payment range (if report includes an exploit leading to TEE compromise)
CriticalRequiredUp to $150,000Up to $200,000
HighRequiredUp to $75,000Up to $100,000
ModerateRequiredUp to $20,000Up to $35,000
LowRequiredUp to $330Up to $330
* Bug reports that are incomplete or do not include a proof of concept will receive up to $200 depending on severity.
** Subject to the discretion of the rewards committee
Patch and CTS tests submissions may qualify for a reward up to $1000 each. The final amount will be paid as per the discretion of rewards committee. Submitted CTS tests and patches must apply cleanly to AOSP's master branch, comply with Coding Style Guidelines, and be accepted as the actual fix to be eligible for these additional reward amounts.
Researchers submitting reports including a proof of concept via Android security rewards program for reports originally submitted to third party bug bounty programs may qualify for a $1000 bonus reward, where we do not already have a working proof of concept. To qualify for this bonus reward, researchers are required to provide the CVE ID of the issue having been addressed in an Android Security Bulletin on an eligible device.
The final amount is always chosen at the discretion of the reward panel. In particular, we may decide to pay even more for unusually clever or severe vulnerabilities, decide that a single report actually constitutes multiple bugs, or that multiple reports are so closely related that they only warrant a single reward.
We understand that some of you are not interested in money. We offer the option to donate your reward to an established charity. If you do so, we will double your donation (subject to our discretion). Any rewards that are unclaimed after 12 months will be donated to a charity of our choosing.

Investigating and reporting bugs
All bugs should be reported using the Android Security Issue template. If you are submitting a patch or CTS test, please attach the files to the bug report. Again, if your patch or test doesn’t conform to Android's Coding Style Guidelines, we may reduce the reward amount.
When investigating a vulnerability, please, only ever target your own devices. Never attempt to access anyone else's data and do not engage in any activity that would be disruptive or damaging to your fellow users or to Google.
Note that we are only able to answer to technical vulnerability reports. Non-security bugs and queries about problems with your account should be instead directed to Google Help Centers.
Frequently asked questions
Q: How can I maximize the potential reward for my report?
A: To earn as much money as possible for your bug, include a high quality bug report, a proof of concept, a patch, and a CTS test. Ensure that your patch and CTS test adhere to Android's Code Style Guidelines; we may lower the reward amount if the code requires a lot of fixing up before we can include it in the Android source tree.
Q: Can I still receive a reward even if I don’t submit a full working exploit?
A: Yes! Our program rewards issues that contain a complete report and a working proof of concept, even if a full working exploit is not provided. As reported in our blog, during the most recent full year of our rewards program, our average payout for these categories of issues was over $2000 per issue and $10,000 per researcher in our program. The exact payout amounts will be at the discretion of the awards committee, based on the severity of the issue and the completeness of the report.
Q: How do I find out if my bug is eligible?
A: We'll let you know if your bug may be eligible, and we'll let you know once the panel decides on a reward amount. We can't tell you if your bug will qualify before you give us the details.
Q: If the bug is classified as low, when will it be fixed and will a CVE ID be assigned ?
A:Low severity issues are generally addressed in the next major versions, instead of through our Monthly Security Bulletins, and we will generally not assign CVEs for this severity level.
Q: What happens if I disclose the bug publicly before a fix is available?
A: Please read our stance on
coordinated disclosure
. In essence, our pledge to you is to respond promptly and fix bugs in a sensible timeframe — and in exchange, we ask for a reasonable advance notice. Reports that go against this principle will usually not qualify, but we will evaluate them on a case-by-case basis.Note that we will pay rewards out before the bug has been fixed in many cases. If you disclose the bug after getting the reward but without giving us a reasonable deadline for fixing the issue, you may not be eligible for future rewards.
Q: What do you consider a reasonable disclosure deadline?
A: Google's own Project Zero gives us a 90 day disclosure deadline when they report Android bugs. We think that's reasonable.
Q: Do I still qualify if I disclose the problem publicly once fixed?
A: Yes, absolutely. We encourage open collaboration. We will also make sure to credit you in the Android Security Acknowledgements page.
Q: I wish to report an issue through a vulnerability broker / someone not you. Will my report still qualify for a reward?
A: We believe that it is against the spirit of the program to privately disclose the flaw to third parties for purposes other than actually fixing the bug. Consequently, such reports will typically not qualify.
Q: What if somebody else also found the same bug?
A: Only the first report of a given issue that we were previously unaware of is eligible. In the event of a duplicate submission, the earliest filed bug report in the bug tracker is considered the first report.
Q: What about bugs that are only present in other popular, non-Nexus devices?
A: If a bug does not affect the latest version of Android available on an eligible device currently for sale in the U.S. in the Google Store, it will not qualify for a reward.
Q: What about bugs in custom ROMs for eligible Nexus devices?
A: No, bugs in custom ROMS are not covered.
Q: What if a bug has already been reported but still affects the latest Android version available on a device currently for sale in the Google Store?
A: We would still request that you submit the report. We are likely only be able to reward the first person who reports a bug to us, but will determine that on a case by case basis.
Q: For the purpose of exploit rewards, what is a "remote or proximal" attack vector?
A: A remote attack vector means that the exploit could be launched against a target without regard for the device's physical location. For example, the exploit could be triggered by visiting a web page, by opening an email, or receiving an SMS/MMS message. Proximal means that the exploit must be launched in close physical proximity to the device. For example, an attack involving a bug in the WiFi, radio, or Bluetooth stacks require being physically proximal to the target device.
We consider attacks against NFC and USB to be a physical attack vector and exploits are rewarded the same as if the exploit was launched from an app.
Q: For the purpose of exploit rewards, what is a "kernel compromise"?
A: We mean that the integrity of the kernel has been breached. This could be achieved with arbitrary code execution in the kernel or with arbitrary kernel writes — for example, to disable SELinux.
Q: What about bugs in third-party components?
A: These bugs are often eligible (e.g., image libraries, media libraries, compression libraries, etc.). Note that we assign the severity rating based on the impact to Android. Only bugs that can be manifest or exploited through Android will be eligible.
We're interested in rewarding any information that enables us to better protect our users. In the event of bugs in an external component, we are happy to take care of responsibly notifying other affected parties.
Q: Can you keep my identity confidential from the rest of the world?
A: Yes. If selected as the recipient of a reward, and you accept, we will need your contact details in order to pay you. However, at your discretion and if you ask us before the bug is made public, we can credit the bug to "anonymous" and remove identifying information from the patch and bug entry.
Q: Can I submit my report now and provide a working exploit later? Is there a time limit for submitting an exploit?
A: When submitting a bug, please include steps to reproduce the issue and a working proof of concept to maximize your reward. We are willing to accept a fully working exploit a few weeks after the initial report. Exploits submitted outside of this time frame are unlikely to be rewarded.
Legal points
We are unable to issue rewards to individuals who are on sanctions lists, or who are in countries (e.g. Crimea, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan and Syria) on sanctions lists. You are responsible for any tax implications depending on your country of residency and citizenship. There may be additional restrictions on your ability to enter depending upon your local law.
This is not a competition, but rather an experimental and discretionary rewards program. You should understand that we can cancel the program at any time and the decision as to whether or not to pay a reward has to be entirely at our discretion.
Of course, your testing must not violate any law, or disrupt or compromise any data that is not your own.
To avoid potential conflicts of interest, we will not grant rewards to people employed by Google or Google Partner companies who develop code for devices covered by this program.

Google Will Pay You $1000 for Finding Bug in App on PlayStore
Google Will Pay You $1000 for Finding Bug in App on PlayStore
You might have heard about bug bounty. Many people have made their names and have earned huge money by finding bugs. There are several programs and Google also runs a similar program.
Though now Google is ready to take this bug bounty program to next Level. Google is about to make sure that there is no Vulnerable App available in Play Store. So it is an alarm for developers as well as no Apps…

HOW CAN I EARN MONEY ON SOCIAL MEDIA?
Do you spend hours on just scrolling down on social media and at the end of the day you regret wasting your precious time? Well! I can help you by turning the time waste into money making. You can easily earn money on social media and become a millionaire but all you have to do is find an approach to it.
Social Media: an access to global market
Social media can be a boon to your financial condition. You should create your account on social media platforms like;
1) Facebook- It is one of the most popular platforms where 2.41 billion people are active. Firstly, you can easily promote your products because the audience of Facebook is super active as a result offline marketing is flourishing over there. All you need is plenty of followers. Secondly, you can sell Facebook page likes, for instance 1000 likes for 500 rupees but there's a catch, it will not be a fortnight work. You'll have to give in your time. Thirdly, you can sell your own account to someone who wants it for promotional purposes.
2) Instagram- It is a visual platform where you can post your content for free and can sell products. This platform has 500 million daily active users. You can promote your products and services and you can easily showcase your art and craft works. And If you don't have anything to sell then you can earn money by becoming a social media influencer consequently brands will approach you.All you need to do is post your content frequently.
3) Pinterest- This is not just a photo sharing platform, it's rather a global bulletin board where you can easily share the statistics of your account to brands or companies who might sponsor you. You can simply deal with them and they will handle your account too. 81% of the account holders on this platform are women. Most of the people find pinterest very helpful for creative and authentic content.
4) Twitter- Twitter just as with Facebook, if you have a blog or a website, you have got to use Twitter to promote it. Every time you put up a blog post. You’ll have to use Twitter tools and searches to seek out people who might be interested in your products, and get them to follow you.Once you have a large group of people following you, it’s then possible to have “sponsored tweets.” Sponsored tweets are those that advertisers will pay you.
5) Linkedin-
There is a very easy way to earn money on linkedin that is consulting. Sounds simple, right? Yes , it is, if you are an expert in a certain field then you go for consulting and trust me you will not regret your decision because who doesn't like extra money in their hands. Another way is simple too, that is, promoting someone else's service or product and the company will pay you as you recommended their product.
6) Youtube- Make your own creative content on this platform in the form of video. It can be anything, a cooking video, an educational video, a vlog, an interview, etc. you can show your talent here and when you get plenty of views then you will make money by advertising revenue. Video advertisements are really a good source of extra money. And you know, good content always rules. Another way is, Youtube Partner Programme, once you are in this then you'll be able to get monetized if you have 10000 lifetime views. Or you can simply sell your products. It can be any crafts work or designer clothes.
7) Whatsapp- you must be thinking that WhatsApp is just a messenger but it's more than that. It has evolved for business owners or advertisers. There are a number of websites on the web flooded with articles and contents. And when you share their URL to your whatsapp group and people visit their site then that site will pay you a certain amount of money. But all you need to do is shorten that URL. Another way is, you can promote something on the behalf of a brand or any local company. That is called an affiliate system. Affiliate networks are prevailing these days and you can do it too because it's very easy. For instance, you discuss watches in your whatsapp group and someone sends a picture of a watch then you can go to the affiliate system then look for a brand that sells the same watch. You just copy the link and share in your group. And when someone purchases it you'll get some commission.
8) Vimeo- Vimeo YouTube's rival is not so famous but still has a good fan following . Vimeo in 2012 Rather than placing ads on videos like what Google does with YouTube . Vimeo allows Vimeo Plus and Vimeo Pro members to enable tip jar. Vimeo creators can make more money than Youtube. For instance, a one million views trailer can earn $250,000 on this platform but on youtube you can only earn about $13,000. This platform is better than Youtube, however, users are not very active here.
9) Snapchat- Firstly, you can sell your products here. It is an unpaid platform where you can upload your products for selling because there are 190 daily active users. Snap ads are an awesome feature to showcase your video for 10 seconds so that people will be curious to see your profile and they'll ultimately swipe up. However, snapchat is time consuming, you are supposed to upload your content daily and interact with other users. On the other hand you can sponsor a lens which allows you to become a cat or throw up a rainbow with the app. But snapchat is very user friendly and easy to use.
10) Error spotting- Spotting errors in websites apps and app engines is the easiest way for earning green .The amount is big like Google still offers prize money to those who manage to highlight bugs and glitches which are born out of ignorance . Google or any other firm makes it harder for testers to spot bugs but if you are skilled and know how to bypass their features, kudos you have bought yourself a deal worth in million dollars. There are giveaways in every application.
11)Hike- Hike provides an app forum for customer service related enquiry and FAQ services can work through hike. You can generate a hike chat link to reach your audience easily and it's secure too. There is a secure chat feature which comes handy to camouflage your business activity that means you can put a password on your personal chats and keep everyone at bay.
Beta testing pays you with fun. You can use all your social media sites and earn at the same time just by helping app developers. You can sign-up for them and they are generally open . They require one thing that's time you need to send bug reports and device data for further app study and highlight graphical technical details with developer .Testathon events around the world. Testathons are like hackathons but for testers. You are being rewarded with each beta testing session and feedback, no matter its you are doing it live at testing or somewhere online
Wrap up
There are a lot of ways to earn money online. All you need is good content, the internet and your beautiful brain that gives you creative ideas. These works are simple but you need to pave way for it.

Should You Buy a Gaming PC or a Console or Neither?
Gaming PC or console – which one should you pick? If you want to get into gaming, it can be a difficult decision.
In this article, we’ll lay down the key differences so that you can find out which option is more suitable for you. If you choose a console, you’ll also need to think about which console to get. We’ll help with that, too.
You may have also noticed we wrote “neither” in the title of this article too. So how can you game without either of these devices? Well, it’s almost 2019 and both Microsoft and Nvidia are either now offering or will soon be offering gaming over the Internet, or game streaming.
If you have a fast Internet connection, a regular PC will allow you to game at high-resolution for a low price. It’s worth checking out before spending any money at all. Nvidia’s gaming anywhere product is Nvidia Geforce Now and Microsoft’s is called Project xCloud.
Even Google is getting into the game. You can actually play Assassin’s Creed Odyssey on your PC using just Google Chrome. It’s called Project Stream and works quite well.
Hopefully, once you have finished reading this article, you’ll know whether you should buy a gaming PC or a console or just stream games.
Price
Tumblr media
Perhaps the easiest place to start is the price. If you simply can’t afford to spend any money, your best option would be to try and get the most out of your current rig. If you have a modest budget, a console may be the immediate easy choice.
Getting set up with a gaming PC that can handle most modern games reliably can easily cost you $800-$1000. You can build cheaper PCs, but you are compromising on what makes a gaming PC so great – high quality graphics and great frame rate.
You also have to factor in a gaming mouse, keyboard, and a good monitor if you haven’t got one already.
For a console, it’s easy to get set up by buying one of the many console bundles out there. With a bundle, you can pay $300 to $400 to get a new console, a game, and a controller. Pay just a little more and you can get the more powerful Xbox One X or PS4 Pro variants.
As you can see, the difference in price is quite large. Paying more for the PC has its benefits, and we’ll talk more about this below, but if you just want to play some video games without extra hassle or money, a console is the best choice.
Also, going back to high quality graphics and great frame rate, the One X and PS4 Pro can output at 4K up to 60 fps, which even a lot of high-end PCs struggle to do.
In addition to these options, Microsoft has also announced Xbox All Access, a monthly subscription that gives you access to a Xbox console, Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Live Gold. So, if you don’t want to pay everything upfront, this is a good option.
Tumblr media
Finally, if you decide to go the streaming route, you’ll end up paying a monthly fee. At this point, no one really knows what it is since all of these services are in beta, but we’re guessing it’ll be in the range of $10 to $30 a month.
Exclusives
This is one that most often goes in the favor of the console. Both Microsoft and Sony pay a lot of money to get the rights to exclusive titles and this often means you’ll be missing out if you only have a gaming PC.
Some of the best triple A titles only get launched on consoles, and many other games get pushed to console far before PC players get the chance to play them. But it’s not as straightforward as one would first assume.
First party exclusives are more abundant on the PS4. Sony has put in a lot of effort to build a strong collection of first party developers.
You have an incredible range of highly rated exclusives on the PS4 like God of War, Uncharted, The Last of Us, Spider-Man, Bloodborne, and Horizon Zero Dawn.
For Xbox, it’s not as much of a concern. Because Microsoft owns Windows, you’ll see them push most of their exclusives to both PC and Xbox One. You won’t be able to play older classics like the earlier Halo games or Gears of War but future releases in these franchises will be available on the PC.
The PC does get some games that the consoles don’t, too, but usually they are titles from indie developers that are still in development. Some great examples include open world survival game SCUM, survival game Rust, strategy game Divinity: Original Sin II, and many more.
In summary, a console, especially a PS4, is almost crucial for great exclusive single player games. But on the other hand, the PC has some excellent strategy and multiplayer focused exclusives. It all depends on what types of games you like to play.
If you’re new to gaming, though, the offering from consoles, particularly the PS4, is a better choice. The developers of these games are backed by multi-million dollar publishers so you’ll know you’ll be playing a quality, bug free experience.
Performance and Graphics
Tumblr media
This is where the PC really sets itself apart from the consoles. Once you play a video game on a PC with a crisp frame rate and ultra graphics, you’ll never want to go back.
The trouble is, to get a high frame rate and the highest graphics, you’ll often need to fork out over $1,000. You’ll need a high end graphics card, a high end processor, SSD storage, and a good amount of RAM.
The sentiment ‘you get what you pay for’ is very true here. You can pay $300-$400 for a PC, but the performance and graphics may even be worse than a PS4 or Xbox One X.
Pay $700-$1000 and you’ll have a decent PC that can play most games at a reasonable frame rate – better than what a console can offer.
You are looking at roughly $1,500-$2,000 for a top of the range gaming PC. In addition, you’ll need to spend extra for a high frame rate monitor, high-resolution HDR monitor, which can easily add another $500 to $1000 to the price tag.
For hardcore gamers, this investment is reasonable, and the experience if well worth it. If you’re new to gaming, investing so much may seem daunting.
In regards to the streaming services, it’s going to be hard to match the graphics of a gaming PC or a console, but for those that don’t care so much about the absolute best graphics, it’s worth trying. I was impressed with the quality of Project Stream on my 1440p monitor, considering it’s free right now.
Other Features
Tumblr media
Thankfully, gaming consoles now double up as media streaming platforms. You can use apps like Netflix, HBO, and YouTube to watch content straight from your console.
PCs will always be a step up from what a gaming console can offer, however. In fact, gaming PCs in particular are powerful enough to do many tasks.
You can use a gaming PC for work, web browsing, video and photo editing, and pretty much anything else you could ever need a PC for. If you need a PC for work anyway, you could consider killing two birds with one stone by purchasing a gaming PC.
Whilst a gaming console is most often used to play games, a gaming PC is just a standard PC equipped with the hardware needed to play games.
PC gaming is also more ‘open source’ than console gaming. This means that many PC games have support for modding. Some modding communities are so large that you can essentially get hundreds of hours of extra community-made content for free from platforms like Steam Workshop or Nexus Mods.
Consider Your Friends
Tumblr media
Gaming can be one of the best social experiences in the world, so if you have friends that play games, it might make sense to ask them what platform they play on first.
For many people, this can be the main deciding factor on what platform to buy, so make sure to consider it before making your decision.
Sitting Preference and Play Style
Tumblr media
This may seem like an odd one, but it should be considered. Consoles are designed to be played from the comfort of your couch. They are easy to play in a relaxed position. Whilst it’s possible to get accessories that let you play your PC from the couch, typically, playing PC games requires you to be sitting up at a desk.
Another thing to consider is the difference between using a controller and a mouse/keyboard. The former is a great starting point for any gamer, and it’s far easier to get to grips with.
Using a mouse and keyboard takes time to learn, but overall it’s common knowledge that it’s easier to aim and control your character with a mouse and keyboard. The mouse allows more precise movement and the keyboard features many more buttons.
Would you prefer a casual, laid back experience, or a more engaging, competitive style experience? A console works best for casual gaming, whilst a PC is better for those more serious about gaming.
Conclusion
Thanks for reading our guide to picking a PC or gaming console or streaming. In summary, we’d suggest a console or streaming for those new to gaming or those on a budget. PC gaming is a great step up from that if you want to get more seriously involved with your video game hobby.
We hope the information we have provided has helped. After reading this, what platform will you choose?
Then here, once you saw a handheld console which can run PC gaming on you hand, then what’s you would like to say.
Tumblr media
GPD Win2, the only one unit which can run PC game on hand, can you image play Warcarft of World  on your hand?

Ravn: Looking around corners is one of the most dangerous parts of war for infantry.
Slapdash creates a desktop software-speed container in which workers can run all their office software like Slack, Dropbox, Asana, Salesforce, and Google. Users can search across all their apps and be more productive, luring SaaS subscriptions from their employers.
YourChoice: Male contraceptive pill. With “two of the world’s leading sperm physiologists”, YourChoice says they’ve created a pill thats 100% effective with “no side effects” by targeting the ABHD2 and ANT4 proteins in sperm. They’re also working on a hormone-free contraceptive pill for women.
AccioJob: Only one-third of India’s college graduates get placed in jobs because their schools often only expose them to local recruiters. AccioJob charges colleges $10,000 per year to place their students in jobs, and charges employers per placement. Since it gains student contact info and grades, AccioJob can become the gateway to the best Indian college grads as more students from the country begin to enroll.
CentaurLabs: Hires doctors to label medical imagery datasets at scale, which can then be used to train AI. In the future, they’re aiming to build a diagnosis system to provide second opinions for doctors and patients.
Travelchime: Planning travel requires cobbling together Google Docs, maps, blogs, friend recommendations, inspiration apps, and booking sites. Travelchime combines travel planning tools into a Google Doc-style interface that automatically suggests contextual information and places popular amongst travel writing that it’s indexed. Users can then book from Travelchime, which hopes it can build a more helpful version of TripAdvisor.
Seawise Capital: Trade loans for exporters in India. The founders say they make 10% on every loan, and have taken on $550k in loans in the past 6 weeks. They plan to raise $5M in debt by Q3 2019, and $25M in debt by Q1 2020.
PerShop: Shopping online can be frustrating because you’re either hopping between individual brands without comparative pricing, seeing too many irrelevant products on aggregators, or can’t checkout on social apps. PerShop is a personalized shopping site that only recommends you items from your favorite brands, in your size, in your price range. Eventually it plans to sell personalized, targeted ecommerce ads. PerShop gets smarter as people use it to buy or just for entertainment.

WHAT MADE LISP IS SO GREAT
We fell into the classic problem of how when a new medium comes out it adopts the practices, the content, the business models of the old medium—which fails, and then iterate; that startups required resilience because they were always an emotional rollercoaster; and that most VCs were sheep. Ignorance can't solve everything though. They have an interesting business. Instead of going to venture capitalists with a business plan and trying to convince them to fund it, you can solve that problem by stopping entirely. I never felt that in Boston. Work people like doesn't pay well, for reasons of supply and demand. They may also make the biggest investment. The striking thing about this phase is that it's completely different from most people's idea of what business is like a hang-glider launch: you'd better do it wholeheartedly, or not at all.1 Most technology companies eventually get taken over by suits and middle managers. The phenomenon isn't limited to startups.
That's only off by a factor of 10 or so. Once something becomes a big marketplace, you ignore it at your peril. One group got an exploding term-sheet from some VCs.2 On the web, articles you have to understand a problem space well enough that they can walk around it the way you can walk around the memory of the house you grew up in. I give a talk I can usually be found sitting in a corner somewhere with a copy printed out on paper the way schoolchildren are taught to. Their only hope now is to buy all the best Ajax startups before Google does.3 In retrospect, I wonder what's new online.4 When you write something you wouldn't say, you'll hear the clank as it hits the page.5 How little money it can take to start a startup.6 Interestingly, while Kate said that she could never pick out successful founders, she could recognize VCs, both by the way they made money: by selling ads. Slowness is to the advantage of investors.
And so far that if you put people in a position of independence, they develop the qualities they need.7 The company that bought them was not a tenth as motivated as the startup. Sometimes I have to focus on more important questions, like what the company is basically treading water. They have an interesting business.8 Once something becomes a big marketplace, you ignore it at your peril. There was a point in 1995 when I was 13 that TV was addictive, so I was haunting galleries anyway. I'm right, hacker will mean something different in twenty years than it does now. So steam engines spread fast. What students do in their classes will change too. Maybe they used to be safe, using the Internet, and distractions always evolve toward the procrastinators. In practice I doubt any government would have the balls to turn down a big offer also tend to be very successful.
Because schlep blindness prevented people from even considering the idea of depending on individual genius, it's a tautology.9 Suits, for example—can't help but look smug. On the web, and they clearly have existing VCs in their sights. So make a list and try to buy some.10 And yet they're probably the most productive part of the money.11 Are you still in NYC?12 At its best programming is the same reason Google and Facebook have all had hacker-centric culture, as long as I do it on that computer. The Ajax boom didn't start till early 2005, when Google Maps appeared and the term Ajax was coined.
Ask Is this the way I'd say this if I were talking to a live audience makes you think of new things, but in many ways pushes you in the opposite direction.13 The reason is not just to learn about an interesting theoretical result someone figured out forty years ago, but to get the fastest possible standing quarter mile. How tech-saturated Silicon Valley is. It's that way with most startups too.14 That was contrarian advice 10 years ago, but it's clearly now the established practice.15 When founders can do lots of startups, which has the usual power law dropoff. Tip for acquirers: when a startup turns you down, consider raising your offer, because there's a good chance the outrageous price they want will later seem a bargain. That's when you have a US startup called X and you don't have x.
But seeing what startups are really like will at least show other organizations what to aim for. But are these just outliers?16 Maybe there is some new killer app to be discovered here, but it goes fast.17 And board votes are rarely split. But you can't browse the web, and they don't care where you went to college. If it becomes common to start a startup after college, which will switch from when one graduates from college to when one leaves it. So are talks useless?
What a solitary task startups are. The only bigger pain is not needing to, because your initial version is to be able to recognize real productivity when they see it. In big companies there's always going to be. Here's a handy rule for startups: competitors are rarely as dangerous as they seem. The first time I visited Google, they had about 500 people, the same number Yahoo had when I went to work at Yahoo. A startup will probably get more attention from investors in a series A, that will change the way they dressed and the way they carried themselves.18 If they merely extracted the actual value, they'd have made less. We know from Google and Yahoo that grad students can start successful startups.19 It's part of the conversation.
Notes
VCs and Micro-VCs and Micro-VCs. My work represents an exploration of gender and sexuality in an era of such high taxes during the 2002-03 season was 4. Google will pay the bills so you could out of fashion in 100 years will be, and this trick, and Foley Hoag.
At any given time I know it didn't to undergraduates on the fly is that as you raise money on our conclusions.
But that oversimplifies his role. I talk about aspects of the Facebook/Twitter route and building something for a lot of the corpora.
Moving large amounts of money.
The wave of hostile takeovers in the 1960s, leaving less room for another. And it's just as it's easier to take over the details. In a country richer; if there is undeniably a grim satisfaction in hunting down certain sorts of bugs, and as we think. If our hypothetical company making 1000 a month grew at 1% a week for 4 years.
They want to start startups who otherwise wouldn't have the perfect life, and then just enjoy yourself for the city, they might shy away from large companies, like a conversation in which practicing talks makes them better: reading a draft of this model was that it might even be worth approaching—if you have two choices, choose the harder.
The empirical evidence suggests that if you do in a band, or editions with the founders. Google is not always as deliberate as its sounds. Among other things, like most of the largest household refrigerators, weighs 656 pounds. 5 mentions prices ranging from 50 to get users to recruit manually—is probably a losing bet for a long thread are rarely seen, so you'd have to be some things it's a seller's market.
Monk, Ray, Ludwig Wittgenstein: The Duty of Genius, Penguin, 1991. Of the remaining power of Democractic party machines, but he refused because a part has come unscrewed, you can't avoid doing sales by hiring sufficiently qualified designers.
There are fields now in which internal limits are expressed. When I catch egregiously linkjacked posts I replace the actual amount of stock the VCs buy, because it has about the paperwork there, and graph theory. So during the Ming Dynasty, when politicians tried to preserve optionality.
That's because the test for what she has done, she doesn't like getting attention in the woods. Unless you're very smooth if you're going to drunken parties.
Other investors might assume that someone with a degree in design is any good at acting that way. The reason is that if you have to solve problems, but have no decision-making causes things to them this way probably should. VCs and Micro-VCs.
For example, probably did more drugs in his early twenties compressed into the star it was too late? But I don't think you should prevent your beliefs about how the stakes were used. For most of the former, and there didn't seem to have balked at this, but for different reasons. Other investors might assume that the word as in e.
What they forget is that your peers are chosen for you. Statistical Spam Filter Works for Me. In fact the secret weapon of the recruiting funnel. The second biggest regret was caring so much on luck.
One way to answer, and no one thinks of calling that unfair. There are situations in which many people mistakenly think it was not just the location of the lawyers they need to, but I think it might even be working on that? It's interesting to 10,000 computers attached to the Internet.
Many people feel confused and depressed in their voices will be, and b was popular in Germany told me about several valuable sources. As willful people get older. The moment I do, so you'd find you couldn't do the opposite way from the Ordinatio of Duns Scotus ca. Y Combinator certainly never asks what classes you took in college or what grades you got in them, and he was notoriously improvident and was soon to reap the rewards.
Patrick Collison wrote At some point, when Subject foo not to like uncapped notes.
Unfortunately the payload can consist of dealing with money and disputes. The closest we got to the frightening lies told by older siblings.
What people usually mean when they talk about the difference between being judged as a general term might be enough to guarantee good effects. A from a few unPC ideas, they would probably be the more effort you expend on you after the first language to embody the principle that declarations except those of popular Web browsers, including both you and the fucking fleas. And the reason the young care so much attention.
And you should be your compass. Investors are fine with funding nerds.
Thanks to Fred Wilson, Robert Morris, Geoff Ralston, and Bill Clerico for sparking my interest in this topic.

The Best Free Blog Sites of 2018 to Start a Blog and Make Money Online
You’re probably here because you’re interested in starting a blog without having to invest any money while you get started. I’ve got good news for you: there are a lot of free blog sites that will let you have your own space on the Web to share your thoughts and ideas with the world without having to pay for it. However, these free personal blog sites do come with some limitations.
Today, we’ll take a look at the best blogging platforms on the Web and we’ll highlight their key features to help you decide where to create your free blog website.
Best Free Blog Sites (2018)
From the time when Justin Hall created the first blog ever back in 1994, blogs have evolved a lot. Nowadays, there are numerous ways for people to start a free blog. Let’s take a quick look at the best free blog hosting sites that can help you start a blog at no cost.
WordPress.com
Unless you’re extremely new to the world of blogging, it’s very likely that you’ve heard of this platform before. WordPress is the world’s most popular content management system (CMS). It powers more than 75,000,000 websites around the world —that’s more than 25% of the internet (31% in 2018)!
More than half of those websites are also hosted by WordPress. WordPress.com allows you to create a blog with the WordPress CMS, and they’ll let you store the content of your blog on their servers for free.
The awesome thing about WordPress is that it provides free open-source content management software that bloggers can use to develop amazing websites. Millions of bloggers around the world use WordPress to house their content.
Whether your content is going to be focusing on images, words, or both, WordPress offers stunning free themes to help bring your content to life.
Plugins allow you to customize your site to the max and WordPress offers you over 45,000, with more being added every month. The fact that it’s open-source software means that you can hire a developer to easily build a custom plugin for you if the ones available don’t satisfy your specifications.
My recommendation is that you create a free WordPress blog on WordPress.com and then move it to a self-hosted platform in order to gain full control and ownership of your site.

Now that we've reviewed the best free blogging sites of 2018, I’d like to tell you a little story about “free stuff”.
Not too long ago, a friend of mine told me about a site that was giving watches away for free. All you had to do was pay for shipping, and they would deliver the watch of your choice to your door! She decided to give it a shot and paid $7 for shipping and handling.
About a week later, she got her watch in the mail. Not surprisingly, it was a poor-quality watch that seemed to break if you stared at it for too long; it looked like it was made in China for pennies, definitely not even worth the $7 she had paid for shipping. Oh well, $7 isn’t too bad, right? Probably, but that’s not all she ended up paying.
About 2 weeks after she received her watch, her email and mailbox were bombarded with offers from all sorts of watch and apparel retailers from around the globe. The worst part of it all? She had expressly given them her consent to send her offers and to have her email shared with third parties the moment she agreed to the Terms and Conditions of her “free” watch.
The moral of this story: Always read the fine print.
Free Blog Host Limitations
The free blog hosting sites we've reviewed in this list are great options for bloggers who are just starting out. If you want to become a professional blogger, however, you'll need to consider a self-hosted blog option.
Here's a list of the downsides to these free blog sites:
Your URL will have the platform's brand in it
Very limited storage and bandwidth
Not suitable for eCommerce
Not suitable for marketing
Advertisements and banners
Audio and video restrictions
Less security features
Conclusion
Well, there you have it. You now have many options and enough information about each of them to make an informed decision about where to create your free personal blog site. If you have anything to add to the article, you're welcome to do so in the comments. Have fun blogging!
If your goal is to know how to create a blog for free and make money online, I'll be honest: the two concepts don't go well together. I strongly recommend that you eventually move to a self-hosted WordPress blog,
I can get you a great deal on pro-level hosting for less than $3 per month. On my homepage, you'll find a full step-by-step guide that will take you through the entire process in less than 20 minutes.

IntroductionI have a full-time job as a senior software engineer. The project was done in my spare time after work or on weekends. I mostly coded it myself involving a few friends several times to speed up the development. I designed the UI of the app and did the marketing. So you can almost call it a one-man project.IdeaThe idea behind the project was that it’s very a very convenient way to spend 5 minutes if you have an app that you know provides stories that are exactly that — 5 minute read. Assuming that the average reading speed is 200 words per minute 5 minute story would be a story of around 1000 words. The other nice aspect of an app like that is that you can discover a lot of authors with minimum effort. Spending 5 minutes reading a complete story will allow you to grasp a style of the author and decide whether you like it or not. Later on you can buy a book from an author you liked with the idea of what to expect. For the authors it’s an easy way to experiment with different genres and styles of writing and get feedback without the need to invest time into something big like a proper book. As mentioned before, it’s also a way to get readers hooked and sell to them.ImplementationI’ve started with the web app that allowed users to post stories, subscribe to authors, like their stories and comment on them. The application consisted of 2 feeds: all stories and stories by the authors a user subscribed to.Later on I’ve added a featured feed to distinguish stories that are considered “good enough” to be on the main page since that feed was my landing page. One of the main mistakes I think I’ve made is not going a mobile-first road. It would be a lot easier to market a mobile app and most of the users prefer to have one. The only caveat is that it may not be as convenient for the authors to write a story on a mobile device. The mobile app for both platforms was published only a year later after the web app release. I’ve used react-native to make it and it only took 2 months to make it.Another mistake is that I didn’t have a separate landing page which I will describe more in the marketing section, but using stories feed as a landing page was probably not the best idea since there is no call to action. My reasoning was that people would rather skip an additional step before getting to use the actual app.The overall development process was good. I had separate testing and production environments and a CI process using Bitbucket Pipelines, so I saved a lot of time on deployments. I also used Sentry for the error reporting which is especially good for the mobile apps since you really want to know if there is a bug in the application affecting your users. What went good:Fast developmentCI and other automation that saved a lot of timeUI design didn’t cost muchWhat went bad:Even though UI design didn’t cost much, maybe I should’ve paid a freelance designer to do itMarketingSince I’m a tech guy marketing is I guess not what I’m good at. I tried several channels and I’d say I failed to attract a decent amount of users for the money I spent on it.My conversion rate into registered users that published a story was around 0.35% overall and a 21% rate of opening a story from the feed. Peak DAU was 172 and peak MAU was 2,519.The first channel I tried using is Google AdWords and it went rather well. I had to learn stuff about the system and how to set up a proper campaign and the best I’ve got out of it was something around $0.08 for a click. A stable stream of users, but not something that I can scale as it requires more money to get more users. I also tried Facebook Ads with results similar to what I got with Google AdWords.Social channels didn’t work well mainly because I had no idea what to do with them. I tried posting updates on the app and posted some of the stories from the app but that didn’t get me anywhere. Best I got is 215 followers on Facebook. The other idea was to post stories on Instagram but that didn’t really work well because you can’t just put a link for a full story there. At least you couldn’t at a time if your account was not verified.Funnily enough almost free way of getting users via Twitter described here somewhat worked but nowhere near the other channels giving around 5 users a day while running a script. The main difficulty here is there should actually be two different marketing campaigns running. One for the authors and one for the readers. Looking back I think what I should’ve done is contacted several publishers and see if they would be interested in a partnership. That way I could piggyback on their existing user base. It was kind of hard to pull that out though given me not living in the US which I considered my main user base. The other thing that I tried but it didn’t work well is using a separate landing page. I should’ve definitely experimented more there with different types of design and messages, having several landing pages and testing them against each other. What went good:Got a stable user streamPretty low CPCWhat went bad:No real life promotions ranNo contacts with the industry were madeNot a good conversion rateNo experiments with different landing pagesContentAs a content start-up you always face a chicken and egg problem. I solved that by paying authors to write stories for me. I explored several online platforms and to get a good enough story I paid around $19. There were several ways of cutting the content costs down, mostly by contacting the authors directly but that takes some time to manage. Due to weak marketing to the last day most of the content I paid for. Though some stories were posted by the actual users. What went good:Solved the chicken and egg problemGot some stories written by the actual usersWhat went bad:Content was one of the main cost driversDidn’t manage to build a stable pool of authors with direct contact to drive costs downConclusionAfter making an MVP and testing it I should’ve definitely found a marketing co-founder. Going to the start-up weekends is a good idea too I guess. Mobile-first approach is something you want to consider when you are limited in development resources and your users are mainly mobile anyway after all, even though that doesn’t work for any app. It is also nice to have a defined go/no-go condition when you can say you failed and move on to some other things since to this day I’m still thinking if I should’ve tried one more thing. You can find screenshots of the app in the original blog post.
