Digimon 2023 tier list
As 2023 is about to end, I'm gonna rank the new Digimon that debuted this year. This is purely my opinion based on how much I like each species. My tier list will run from S to D, with S being my favorite and D being my least favorite. I will only put one in each S and D. A will be Digimon I really like, B will be Digimon I like but not as much, and C will be ones I'm more ambivalent toward. I want to say that I don't dislike any of the new Digimon from this year, I just like some more than others.
The only new full evolution line we got this year is the Loogamon line. The baby stages are Fusamon and Bowmon. They're both cute and perfectly good Digimon, but it's generally hard for me to get excited about baby stages compared to the later stages. C-tier for both.
Loogamon is fun for being a new prototype Digimon with ties to Dorumon and Ryudamon via Seekers. I do think canine Digimon are overdone, but Loogamon sticks out nicely among the flood of Garurumon expies, which is a definite plus. I think I like it more than previous expies like Gaogamon and Dorulumon. I'll give it B-tier
Loogarmon I quite like. Again, canine Digimon are overdone, but this one manages to have a much more unique silhouette than the likes of Gaogamon, Dorulumon, and Fangmon. I love that the fire it breathes formes a muzzle, that's such a cool and unique idea. The wolf Digimon being a scary werewolf/garm monster is also a great step away from preguous Garurumon-style Digimon. A-tier.
The two Perfect/Ultimate level forms for Loogamon are Heloogarmon and Soloogarmon, with Heloogarmon being intended as a dark evolution, like the SkullGreymon of the Loogamon line. It's a badass werewolf made of hellfire that has the uncontrollable instinct to burn everything around it in a mindless rage. That is such a cool and scary concept, I absolutely love it. Easy A-tier. Soloogarmon as the good evolution is a lot less cool to me. Its the red-headed stepchild of the Loogamon family. I'm not a fan of how so many high-level Digimon turn into bipeds and Soloogarmon is definitely guilty of this. The mechanical elements also feel out of place compared to the rest of the line and that giant canister on its butt is just weird. The weapon being a wrench/lightsaber is cool, I just think it should be on a Digimon themed around engineering. I definitely prefer Heloogarmon as the Loogarmon evolution. I'm putting it on the bottom of C-tier because there is one I like less.
The Ultimate/Mega level is Fenriloogamon and I love it. Another quadrupedal Ultimate/Mega partner for a main character has been a long time coming as they're usually humanoid. For example, all the partner final forms from Ghost Game, the most recent anime, looked like people in costumes. A blue, flaming werewolf clad in silver armor is such a cool concept. I would love to see Fenriloogamon animated or in a video game. The Norse Mythology theme is also cool. Easy A-tier. Fenriloogamon also has another form called Fenriloogamon Takemikazuchi which looks like if Zacian from Pokemon was designed by a heavy metal album cover artist. The blade it bears is Kazuchimon transformed into a sword. It look me longer than it should to realize that Fenriloogamon Takemikazuchi is a reference to Alphamon Oryuken where Oryumon turns itself into a weapon for Alphamon. Given that the Dorumon and Ryudamon lines are in Seekers, we may see Alphamon Oryuken meet Fenriloogamon Takemikazuchi. I also give this one an A-tier.
Commandramon is a high contender for my favorite Digimon of all time (which is ironic given how anti-military I am in real life), so I was super happy to see new evolutions of it for Seekers. Heck, the D-Brigade will be featuring in the Digimon Adventure fanfic I've been working on (please give me constructive criticism on what I have so far) Commandramon itself is not in this list because it's been out for a long time now. The new Adult/Champion level evolution is Hi-Commandramon, which is such an amazing evolution for Commandramon. I think its a better evolution than Sealsdramon, even though in canon Hi-Commandramon evolves from Commandramon who failed the test to become Sealsdramon. Hi-Commandramon is like Digimon distilled into one design, a high-tech cyborg dinosaur with military equipment. It may be a bit early in my tier list, but Hi-Commandramon is my S-tier.
The new Perfect/Ultimate level for Commandramon is Cargodramon, a dragon tiltrotor. It gives some air support and transportation to the army that is the D-Brigade. Cargodramon is definitely a callback to Tankdramon as the weirdly out of place vehicle evolution of Commandramon. I give it a B-tier.
Brigadramon is the new Ultimate/Mega level for the D-Brigade. In-universe, it was designed for a replacement for the original Darkdramon after that one went rogue. It acts as a commander that surveys from the air and guns down enemies from above. While I still prefer Darkdramon as a Commandramon evolution, Brigadramon is still great. It also works as an evolution for a ton of different Digimon without seeming out of place, which is a great factor in a series like Digimon with branching evolution lines. Off the top of my head, I can see virus MetalGreymon, MetalGreymon 2010, Gigadramon, and maybe Jazarichmon all evolving to Brigadramon. Easy A-tier.
Two new related Digimon are Luxmon and ArkhaiAngemon, who are both new angel Digimon. Luxmon is the new Child/Rookie level angel Digimon. I really like Luxmon, I think it's a great starting point for any angelic or holy line and I like that it looks like a child Angemon in footie pajamas. This may be heresy to say, but Luxmon is a better Angemon pre-evo than Patamon. I give it A-tier. ArkhaiAngemon is a new Perfect/Ultimate level angel and I do like it, but I think its probably the last interesting angel of its level compared to HolyAngemon and Angewomon. I kind of wish we got another feminine angel Digimon of this level (or any angel thats not a blonde white person) because it could be a great through line between Dacmon and LovelyAngemon without having to double-up on using Angewomon as the Perfect/Ultimate level when she's pretty firmly established as Ophanimon's pre-evo. I'll give ArkhaiAngemon a B-tier.
Quantumon is a cool design and is neat as the closest we've gotten to a Digimon form of Adventure's Homeostasis (even though she appeared in a completely different continuity). I Also appreciate another feminine Ultimate/Mega that's not sexualized. Honestly the biggest thing I have against Quantumon is that the end of Ghost Game sucked. I give her a B-tier.
Cthyllamon as an evil MarineAngemon is neat, but more interesting is that it many be a refenrence to an obscure bit of the franchise. Bck in the Digimon Accel virtual pets, multiple existing Digimon got Blast Modes. These modes only existed in those games and don't have reference book entries. One of these was MarineAngemon Blast Mode, which looked like an angry MarineAngemon with bat wings. We never got anything more than sprite artwork for the Blast Modes, but given the similarities, I think Cthyllamon is a callback to MarineAngemon Blast Mode. For that, I'll give it an A.
All the new Digimon introduced in Digimon New Century have bee great and Dijiangmon is no exception. As far as evil Digimon go, Dijiangmon is a interesting one. Instead of destroying things or raising armies, it just hangs out, being completely expressionless and never making a sound. It also has the power to telepathically induce other Digimon to fight. It's like the Digimon version of a creepypasta monster. I like it. A-tier.
A Digimon that has been announced but not yet fully released is Tlalocmon. We have the art and the knowledge that it's a Jogress/DNA Digivolution of Eldoradimon and SaberLeomon, but no lore yet. Despite that, what we have is super cool. It's an adorable Ultimate/Mega level, which is super rare, and its named after the Aztec god of rain Tlaloc. A twitter Digimon fan and Mesoamerican history enthusiast did a big post breaking down the design influences and mythological references in Tlalocmon that you should definitely read. Easy A for Tlalocmon and I can't wait to see it in action.
Another announced by not yet released Digimon that will be coming from New Century is Takutomon. I'm gonna be honest, I'm not nearly as excited about this one as I am about Tlalocmon. The design is fine, but I'm not too excited about another "dude in a costume" Ultimate/Mega level. Maybe my opinion will change as we get more information, but for now it's C-tier.
The final new Digimon released this year (not counting the one teased in the announcement for the new card game project which we don't even have a name for yet) is BigUkkamon. The name says it all, it's Ukkamon but bigger. And pink. And with less detail. Gotta say, this one is pretty boring. They didn't even include the weird head tree thing from 02 The Beginning in its official art. The lore is decent, but BigUkkamon is just bland. This one's the D-tier.
To recap:
S-tier: Hi-Commandramon
A-tier: Loogarmon, Heloogarmon, Fenriloogamon, Fenriloogamon Takemikazuchi, Brigadramon, Luxmon, Cthyllamon, Dijiangmon, and Tlalocmon
B-tier: Loogamon, Cargodramon, ArkhaiAngemon, and Quantumon
C-tier: Fusamon, Bowmon, Takutomon, and Soloogarmon
D-tier: BigUkkamon
Between Seekers, 02 The Beginning, and announcements for new card came and video game projects, 2023 was pretty good for Digimon. Hopefully next year keep on going and helps the Digimon renaissance keep going.

Okay, so, you know how I already have a Digimon x Twisted Wonderland AU called Digitwst, right? It focuses mainly on the freshman and takes the most inspiration from Adventure in terms of like, set up. It also has a prequel type thing about when Lilia was a kid and his adventures in the digital world along with Ray, the knight of Dawn.
This is neither of those. I think Iâm just gonna go the 2020 reboot route for the name of the AU and just call it Digitwst: until I can find a better name for it but new Digimon x twst AU that has Lilia, Ray, Meleanor, Raverne, Leah and Henrick all as main characters, and it probably takes more cues from Xros Wars (not Hunters) than Adventure, though Iâd probably need to rewatch Xros Wars/Fusion just in case.
Anyways! Partner lines!
Starting off with Lilia! Donât mind the fact that he doesnât have a picture, I gave up after the first two, anyway, in Digitwst proper, he has two partners, each of which represents Raverne and Maleanor respectively, however since those two are MCs in this AU, the partner distribution got split up, oh well. So because of the lack of Raverne influence on this line, Liliaâs partner is able to lean fully into the bat theming with Myotismon and NeoMyotismon (thereâs a joke to be made here about book 7 spoilers)
I gave him Botamon because I didnât want him and Ray to have the same Baby digimon, but I ended up giving Ray something other than a Poyomon, so, eh? Doesnât really matter
Baul! Again, in Digitwst proper, Baulâs place is taken by a Hi-Commandramon, so thatâs as good a reason as any, but the reason why is because 1) The War(â˘ď¸) and 2) heheh, Dramon family. So yeah, thatâs basically it
Raverne! I couldâve given him a Falcomon or something, but idk, I really liked the idea of giving him a DemiDevimon, so thatâs why he has that, and Saberdramon felt like itâd be a good fit for the line, and again, Heheh, Dramon :)
Oh yeah btw Crowley is Raverne is canon simply because we know more about Crowley by virtue of him actually having screentime
Meleanor! This one was a no brainer, really. The only real thing of note is the Hydramon to cap off the line instead of the usual Breakdramon, and thatâs because of Maleanorâs connections to briars and vines and such. Also side note butI donât think that Groundramon has ever evolved into Hydramon before and thatâs crazy to me because itâs SUCH a good fit, like seriously? Maybe in the new Time Seekers or something? Idk Iâm very much an anime only (unless you count V-Tamers that one time lol)
Silver Owls time! Starting off with Ray, this is just the same exact line that he has in Digitwst proper, not much to say about it. Petitmon is here to really drive home the holy digimon vibes, also maybe probably future connection to Silver there too, so
Leah time!! âBut Nami, isnât Sistermon Blanche a rookie level? Why does she evolve from Lopmon?â You may be asking if you know that Sistermon Blanche is a rookie level off the top of your head, and to that I say, Sistermon Blanche makes an absolutely BANGING Lopmon evo, and digimon has been known to play around with digimonâs levels from time to time anyhow, so I think it fits. She doesnât have a perfect level because Iâm not entirely sure which direction to go in. I could go back to the fully rabbit theme and give her Antylamon (deva) OR I could commit to the human forms and give her Angewomon, which I like more BUT in Digitwst proper EPEL has an Angewomon, and while theyâre different AUs, I donât want to step on his toes too much
(Poor Epel btw, I first gave him a Salamon because I thought theyâd look nice next to each other, then I really liked the fact that he had such an unapologetically cute/beautiful/feminine digimon, but then I started thinking about the Prequel and decided that their theme was going to be holy digimon, and now thereâs an awkward connection there that exists NOWHERE in canon Twst lol. Heâs wearing a sign that says âI know what it looks like but itâs just a COINCIDENTAL RESEMBLANCE to THOSE GUYS I PROMISEâ lol)
So yeah, either one works, and Iâm probably just gonna go with Angemon because Sistermon gives such a nice bridge to the human/angel aspect, and itâs not like this is Digitwst proper or anything, but idk
And finally, everyoneâs least favorite bastard, Henrick. If heâs gonna be a Main Character in this AU, then heâs just begging for the âthinks itâs all a game/not realâ archetype that sometimes shows up. Makes even more sense if this AU is gonna be partially based off Xros Wars because â¨Ewan⨠Heâs getting dragged kicking and screaming through character development (AKA Meleanor. She is throwing hands. You cannot stop her)
Anyway, before I even decided to make this an actual AU (which was a little after Leahâs design came out btw) I thought itâd be fun if him and Leah had a Terriermon and Lopmon. Especially since in Digitwst proper, the Henrick stand in was a Cherubimon (virtue), and while sure, Cherubimon is a Lopmon evolution, itâs not like itâs a crazy mind blowing thing for a Terriermon to become one, so yeah! He also has a Shakkoumon bc idk, I just thought itâd fit
So yeah! Thatâs about it for now? For this post, at least. Probably a no one dies AU (AKA in the future Silver has all his parents, so does Mal. Donât ask me about Sebek)

yugioh duel monsters with digimon part 1
Sorry about the long wait. a combination of brain fog and how many people in YuGiOh I wanted to add to this project of mine.
here how this will work, I will be showing of a pic of YuGiOh character and a digimon evolution line that fits them in my mind, along with a shortish blurb about why and what traits or focuses could help get them to evolve. I will be using the dub names for both humans and digimon
for the first part it will be team yugi (and kaiba) with both yugi and atem getting different lines. due to the length of this it will be under the read more
up first is the star of the show Yugi with the power of friendship.
I chose Patamon, Nefertimon, Knightmon, and finally Gallant. I chose friendship as yugi's trait due to the fact the wish he made from the puzzle was to make friends and we see how far he goes to help and protect them, which is also why I pick knightmon and Dukemon while Patamon can help represent his more basic levels of it and openness. Nefertimon does bring some of the Egyptian side of YuGiOh to the line.
Next up on the list is yugi's body sharing partner Atem with kindness as his guiding light.
The digimon are Gottsumon x, Wizarmon, Mistymon, and Pharaohmon. as one might see the digimon for Atem are closly related to some monsters like giant soldier of stone and dark magician and its knight form, with the final push of kindness and understanding let them become a true ruler and have their partner become Pharaohmon for the final set of conflicts.
now for mister luckily himself Joey and his courage to fight the odds.
this set consist of Spadamon, Minotuarmon, Lavogaritmon, and marsmon. the digimon I chose are some of the more blunt in the way they fight along with a dark dragon with red accents. this of course Joey's wiliness to throw hands, metaphorically or literately, along with the fact many of them can perfectly fit the beast warrior type in yugioh.
Now for the only girl of this part Tea with the power of love.
she is partner with plotmon who could evolved into witchmon before becoming Angewomon and then finally reaching Lovely Angewomon. She will show those who tries to pick on their friends is a horrible idea (if Yugi or Atem haven't already). The digimon selection is reflecting her deck of fairy's and spell-casters that tend to a small them of kindness and friendship so I thought that a nice go getter type of digimon will fit for the last Evo, plus it would be nice for Tea's digimon to just throw hands at someone.
now it is time for an reliable buddy who may not be the best at dueling Tristan Taylor.
the line has Commandramon, Hi-Commandramon, Andromon, and then Hi-Andromon. kind of funny to see how I accidentally have two sets of digimon and their direct evos that have hi in their name. I was planning on having some 'joke' digimon to reflect his skills in dueling but decided against it due to wanting to show some respect to him and instead reflect the types of monster he liked to used.
time for the last person of this part Mr. Seto 'I love dragons and will make people know' Kaiba and the power of his pride.
the child is Monodramon who then evolve to XV-mon before taking to the skies as Aero V-dramon as they then finally break the sound berrier as Ulforce V-dramon. besides all of them being dragons and blueish, all of the can be quite the power house in terms of fighting and have a massive love of it as well. This man and digimon combo will let the world know they are the best and they will show off the best training money and stubbornness can get ya.
so there ya go, the first part of the YuGiOh duel monster characters getting digimon. unsure if the next part would be people closet to the Yugi gang or go for the villains but no matter what I am open to hear who should be added to the list.
#yugioh#digimon#yugi moto#seto kaiba#joey wheeler#tea gardner#tristan taylor#pharaoh atem#not going to tag the digimons.

In the medbayâStarscream was ranting and raving about a feral Soundwave⌠only for the resident medic to reveal the spymaster was stationed on the Nemesis the entire time. The Seeker hissed at the disbelief, citing the fact the âfacelessâ mech can remote groundbridge.
A buzzing noise interrupted them both followed by a clunk outside the medbay door. Knockout cautiously investigated only to find a rather odd sight dropped at his âdoorstepâ. Starscreamâs missing arm, well, sans his missile on the floor.
(Backbite knew it was risky to do this, but she felt a little bad for Starscream taking so much physical abuse by the warlordâs servosâŚ)
ââââââââââ
If MECH thought their troubles were over upon capturing a living âtransformerâ, then they had another thing coming. The moment the subject woke upâall manner of glitches plagued their systems and the power was fluctuating greatly. Equipment primed to vivisect the bulky mech would shut off before breaking plating, then sputter even when a hard wire reset got the tools working again. Every issue that could go wrong did in fact went wrong in what should otherwise be state of the art systems!
Silas attempted to appear unruffled when the rest of the transformers managed to find his little present to them. But, something on the alienâs end alerted them to the trap early.
He regained control⌠for a few seconds?
When gunshots broke the lights in the tunnel leading to the operating room of sorts. One by one, the effect almost drawn out to purposely hype up whoever was doing this⌠Which fell apart(?) as something big came crashing the tunnel security door. Each camera was shot through, although that didnât strike the MECH leader as the green bruiserâs handiwork. The sounds of his agents getting hurt sounded far too clearly across the monitors.
Not even the most vicious virus could detect the interloper messing with their systems. What little data they collected had to be hastily transferred to a hard copy to avoid not gaining anything from this opportunity.
*************
Checkpoint laid down some slight cover fire in order to dissuade the helicoptersâ shots. He had to keep moving between each snipe to not give away his own position. Suffice to say, the Commandramon had every bit of combative knowledge tested in his first foray in the non-digital world. That it ended up happening due to his cybertronian counterpart effectively getting jumped just felt semi-ironic. But, hey.
Every soldier had bad combat encounters.
âŚHe did have back up in Vanguard, so he couldnât discount having an escape strategy. Backbiteâs own counterpart led a small squadron of winged Vehicons to the remnants of the MECHâs final effort before retreating. Not liking the way Starscream was insinuating Breakdown hesitating to attack his rescuer as him defectingâthe Commandramon had Vanguard fire off a shot. In lightning bolt form.
Better to âfinesseâ the perception before the bulky blue bruiserâs opinion of Bulkhead turned back to antagonistic. Starscream was an insidious influence even on a bad day.
Checkpoint didnât have much of an opinion over the Autobot versus Decepticon conflict. Except that it was a frankly stupid final effort from a species at this rate was going nearly extinct.
âââââââââ
In a similar fashion to the last time, there was a softer thunk of a part being delivered outside the Medbay doors. A lone optic stared at Knockout who shot a look at his conjunx.
Well.
Whoever the mystery help was, they were marginally fine in his data log so long as they kept Breakdown out of harms way next time.
Operation Breakdown is one of the more darker episodes no matter which way you look at. Least BD had hidden backup to minimize the damage to him. Also Breakpoint's opinion on the 'war' at this point is valid.

Digimon fanfic chapter 3 draft
Chapter 1, Chapter 2
âSo this Dark Spore thing makes you a jerk?
The three children and two Digimon were once again walking through the forest, having left the haunted cottage in which they had spent the previous night. Keiko had finished telling the group about her and her partner Tsukaimon defeating the Soulmon and Bakemon that had brainwashed them.Â
âItâs more than that,â Keiko replied to Danielâs question. âThe Dark Spore amplifies everything about you. You get to be smarter, stronger, and faster, but every good quality about yourself becomes repressed and all the bad becomes worse. The Spore was only active in me for a little while, but the person it turned me into⌠Thereâs nothing Iâm more afraid of than going back to being that person.â
Clark was only half paying attention to the conversation as he led the group to their first destination. Instead, his mind was racing, going over the events of the previous night. Part of him tried to argue that thereâs no reasonable way he could have known that a quartet of ghostly Digimon would turn the previously-safe cottage into a grotesque trap. That part was drowned out by the rest of his brain.
I got complacent, he thought. Iâve been so lucky all this time that I forgot how dangerous the Digital World is, especially without a Digimon partner. And my stupidity almost got us all killed.Â
He spared a glance back at the others, where Keiko was explaining that she had previously made trips to the Digital World to try to learn about the Dark Spore in the hopes of eventually removing it. Her and Danielâs partners were following along, Tsukaimon occasionally interjecting her own thoughts into Keikoâs story and Blue the Dracomon seemingly pouting about something. Not for the first time since meeting them, Clark felt a sudden pang of envy and sadness shoot through his heart.Â
I wish he was still- Clark shook his head. Dwelling on that topic wouldnât fix anything, it would just make him more upset than he already was.
âAre you still upset about that?â Danielâs voice cut through Clarkâs thoughts. For a second, the boy sounded like Andrew did when he got upset.Â
âYou left my bones behind,â replied Blue in an accusatory tone of voice.Â
âGee, Iâm sorry, I was a little focused on saving your life,â responded Daniel in an exaggerated tone of sarcasm.Â
Yup, heâs Andrewâs brother all right.
âYou could have grabbed at least one,â pouted the little dragon.
âMaybe theyâll have some where weâre going. Actually, where are we going?â
Question knocked Clark out of his thoughts. âOh, weâre going to a village of Digimon in the Caps Lock Crater. They know me there and I left crests for the two of you there for safe keeping. Once we pick those up Benjamin asked me to take you to the Subroutine jungle to meet Baihumon, one of the Harmonious Ones, but he didnât say why.â
âWhat are crests?â asked Daniel at the same time as Blue asked âWhoâs Baihumon?â
âCrests are items given to some DigiDestined,â Clark responded to Danielâs question first. âTheyâre based on some trait or virtue of the DigiDestined and help their partners Digivolve to the ultimate level. Baihumon is one of the Harmonious Ones, four extremely powerful Digimon that help guard and maintain the Digital World. They work for or with, I'm not entirely sure, Benjamin and the other Agents. Baihumon rules the part of the Digital World weâre in right now, the western quadrant.â
âYeah, I know about them,â Keiko added. âI wasnât there of course, but from what the other Japanese DigiDestined have told me the Harmonious Ones were imprisoned until one was freed. That one, Azulongmon I think, freed the rest and helped fight against Oikawa and MaloMyotismon.â
âYou mentioned that name before, owee-something?â asked Daniel.Â
âOikawa,â was the reply. Keikoâs face noticeably darkened as she continued. âHe was the one who put the Dark Spore in me.â
âSo heâs a bad guy?â asked Blue, momentarily distracted from his lack of bones.
Keiko exchanged a look with Tsukaimon. âKind of. Ultimately, Oikawa was a sad lonely person who was manipulated by MaloMyotismon, but he also found me when I was at my lowest point in life and manipulated me into taking the Dark Spore. And even if I know it was really MaloMyotismonâs fault, I donât think I can ever not hate him for that.â
âBut since MaloMyotismon is dead, is he better now?â asked Blue.
âOikawaâs dead,â said Tsukaimon. Ultimately he was MaloMyotismonâs last victim.â
Silence once again fell over the group. Clark closed his eyes. Thinking about a human dying was not something he enjoyed. Digimon dying was one thing. Ultimately their data would be reformatted into a Digi-Egg to be born again. Humans on the other hand⌠Thinking about it brought up memories. Memories of a father who taught him the importance of fighting for whatâs right. Of a call to duty and a promise to return.Â
Of an American flag draped over a casket.Â
âYou three know so much more about the Digital World than me,â Daniel broke the silence.Â
Clark shrugged. âItâs your first time here, canât really blame youâ.Â
âIt just feels like, well do you really need me?â The boy asked. âHonestly it feels like you knew Andrew better than I did. He never told me any of this.â
âHe was probably trying to keep you safe. Seems like something heâd do. Besides, I knew him for one adventure. You definitely know more about the guy than I do, heâs your brother after all.â
âIf it helps, we never met him,â added Tsukaimon. âBenjamin just asked for our help.â
This did not, in fact, make Daniel feel better. Apparently two complete strangers were recruited to rescue his brother before him.Â
âCome on, we should be able to make Caps Lock Crater by this evening if we hustle,â Said Clark, who started walking faster.Â
The Sealsdramon watched the group from its hiding spot in the trees. One claw twitched toward the sheathe for its knives. From this angle it could easily kill the two humans with Digimon partners before they could react, and from there the rest would fall quickly. It would be fitting, vengeance for its fallen comrade-in-arms. But no, that was not its mission. Sealsdramon withdrew from its hiding spot, ready to make its report.Â
-------
The sun was moving toward the horizon when Clark suddenly stopped walking.
âWhatâs go-â Daniel started to ask, but was interrupted by Clark shushing him.Â
âThereâs something in the trees,â whispered the older boy. âI donât know if itâs seen us yetâ.
âOh, itâs seen usâ, squeaked Keikoâs voice.
The boys turned to see Keiko, arms held in the air, with an angry Tsukaimon fluttering above her head and the tip of an enormous sword held to her throat. The blade was held by a heavily-muscled humanoid lizard wearing tribal attire and a pair of bladed wristbands. Despite the greatsword being nearly half the size of the lizardman, it held the weapon with one hand.
âWoah, Dinohumon! Sheâs with me!â Shouted Clark, who also raised his hands above his head.
The reptilian Digimon, Dinohumon, cocked a brow. âClark?â
âYes, itâs me,â Clark replied, his voice quavering with worry. An elbow to Danielâs gut told the younger boy to also raise his hands.
âWell if theyâre with you I suppose itâs ok. But itâs on you if they cause trouble,â Dinohyumon withdrew its sword, placing it in a sheath located on the lizardâs back.Â
Tsukaimon exploded. âWhere the hell do you get off attacking people like that, you asshole!?â She would have flown at the bigger Digimon had Keiko not grabbed her and pulled her in tight.
âIâm the one keeping my home safe, thatâs who,â growled back Dinohumon in a low, gravelly voice.
Clark rushed to put himself between the two Digimon. âDinohumon is from the village weâre headed to.But they wonât hurt us if weâre not a threat, right?â That last part was directed toward the Digimon in question.
The Digimon grunted in affirmation and turned to leave. âFollow,â It said.Â
Clark let out a breath he didnât realize he was holding. âSorry about that. I hoped we would run into a different villager but I should have realized this could happenâ.
âYouâre friends with that ass?â Tsukaimon asked.
âFriends is a bit of a strong word with Dinohumon, but we do know each other.â
The group hurried to catch up with Dinohumon (Tsukaimon muttering curses under her breath the whole way) as the lizard trekked through the forest. Before long, the forest ended abruptly, as though one piece of terrain had been literally sliced off and dropped over another. Some of the trees were even cut cleanly through the middle and the ground changed color and texture in a sudden, straight line. Beyond the forest was a desert landscape of red soil, craggy hills, and towering, twisting cacti. Keiko and Tsukaimon stopped and stared at the landscape in wonder, while Daniel and Blueâs faces lit up.Â
âHey, Danny, Itâs like home!: Exclaimed the little dragon excitedly.
âWhere do yâall live?â asked Tsukaimon.
âA place called Arizona,â Replied Daniel. âThe landscape is a lot like this, but the cacti arenât as big.â
âItâs beautiful,â Keiko said.
Daniel shrugged, âI guess so. Iâve gotten used to it. And itâs kind of far from anywhere else. Thatâs actually why Andrew couldnât help out when all those Digimon appeared last Christmas. We live way too far away from New York to come helpâ.Â
âItâs colder here though,â Blue complained. âI like home betterâ.
âSpoken like a true reptile,â Daniel rolled his eyes.
As it turned out, Caps Lock Crater wasnât a crater, but rather a massive satellite dish buried in the ground and partially covered in soil and large plant roots. Around the rim of the crater were several more, smaller satellite dishes emerging from the ground like strange, metal trees. Within the dish were many dwellings crafted from various materials including hollowed out cactus husks, stone, and myriad plastic boxes. To one side of the crater, a steep cliff led down into the desert below and to another, a stream flowed before eventually meeting the same cliff and tumbling down as a waterfall.Â
At the rim of the crater, Dinohumon stopped before turning to face the group.Â
âThis is the village of Caps Lock Crater, my home. I will defend this village and its people with my life. If you harm anyone or anything here, you will answer to me and my sword. Do you understand?â
âAhh, lighten up, Dinohumon,â Another voice came from the crater. From the satellite dishâs rim stepped a yellow-furred ape man with a large bone strapped to its back. Behind the ape-like Digimon, many more followed. The rest of them were small, around the size of Blue and Tsukaimon or even smaller. Rookie, In-Training, and Fresh level Digimon evidently made up most of the villages population.
Dinohumon sniffed. âVigilance never hurt anyone, Apemon. Strange things are afoot out there. Even the D-Brigade have been moving through the desertâ.
âThatâs no reason to treat a guest rudely. You kno-â The rest of Apemonâs response was cut off by Daniel.
âDid you say the D-Brigade? Where?â
âWhat do you want with the D-Brigade?â asked Dinohumon, voice filled with suspicion?
âThey took my brother! Please, did you see a human with them?â
âI did not, but I also kept my head down when I spotted them. One does not go to the D-Brigade for a chat, you stay out of their way and hope you werenât noticedâ.Â
Danielâs shoulders slumped, dejected. Clark stepped forward.Â
âDinohumon, Iâd like to ask you more about where you saw the D-Brigade and where they were going. While Iâm doing that, Apemon, do you mind helping my friends here?â
âFind what you left here? Sure, sure,â replied the ape. âAnd after that why donât you join us for a nice meal? Iâm sure walking out in those woods took something outa yaâ.Â
With the group agreeing to the plan (and the two Digimon partners agreeing to the meal portion with particular enthusiasm), Daniel, Keiko, Blue, and Tsukaimon followed Apemon to the center of the Caps Lock Crater, introducing themselves along the way. Most of the other villagers dispersed back to what they had been doing, but a few continued to follow the group around. After gently shooing them away, Apemon escorted the children and their partners to a building at the dead center of the crater.Â
âLetâs see here,â muttered Apemon as he pawed at the floor of the sparsely-decorated one-room structure. After a second, he seemed to find what he was looking for as he pulled up part of the floor, revealing a metal hatch. âIâll just be a minute,â he said, before leaping in, descending into the underground bowels of the satellite dishâs structure.Â
There was a pause, before Daniel broke the silence.Â
âSo our crests, huh? Any idea what yours will be?â
Keiko shook her head. âI know the crests for the Japanese Digidestined. Courage, friendship, knowledge, sincerity, reliability, love, hope, light, and kindness. I donât know how many virtues there are, though, or which ones Iâd have. If anyâ.Â
âI think youâd have the crest of creepiness, Keiko,â said Tsukaimon.Â
âI like creepy stuff, Iâm not creepy. At least, I donât think I amâŚâ was the reply.
âOoh, Danny should have the crest of hungry!â exclaimed Blue.
âI think youâre mistaking me for you, bucko. And itâs Danielâ, replied Blueâs human, who playfully bonked his partner on the head.Â
The sound of banging metal heralded Apemonâs return, climbing out of the hatch. In one hand, he held two small, diamond-shaped objects, only a few inches long and looking comically tiny compared to the giant hand of the one holding them.Â
âââEre we go,âgrunted the monkey man. âNow Clark said these thingamajigs are for you, so here ya go.â
Each child took one of the two objects. They were metal pendants of a pale yellow color hanging from a looped lanyard. In the middle, each pendant held a small plate inscribed with a symbol.Â
âHow do we know whose is whose?â Asked Daniel.Â
Keiko stared at the one she held, its symbol looking like a crescent moon carved in obsidian black. âI think this one is mine. It feels, I donât know, right somehowâ.
Daniel looked at his. He didnât feel anything about the small piece of metal engraved with three jagged lines a deep, dark blue in color. Figuring he could ask Clark later, he shrugged and pocketed the crest.Â
âAlright Blue, I guess we⌠Blue?â Daniel looked around for his partner, who was not standing next to him as he was a second ago. Where could he have gone?
âYou got what you came for yeah? How about some grub?â Asked Apemon, who had moved back outside into the crater. Daniel followed him out, noting that he had to duck slightly to get out of the structure. Apemon must have to basically crawl through to get inside. Let alone that bone of his.Â
Wait, bone?
No⌠don't tell meâŚ
Daniel gingerly stepped around the large Digimon to check out his back. To his horror, he saw Blue there, the little dragon biting onto the bone, holding himself off the ground with his mouth and looking as though he had reached paradise.
âWhat are you doing?!â shrieked Daniel in shock and humiliation. He grabbed Blue and yanked, pulling him off the bone.Â
Shaken from his chew bone-induced stupor, Blue at the least had the decency to look ashamed. âSorry, Danny. I just couldnât help myselfâ.
Apemon grabbed his bone and inspected it, noting to his horror that Blueâs jaws had left visible scratches in the alabaster white periosteum.Â
âWhy you impudent, insolent, disrespectful little- What is that?â
Apemonâs rage was interrupted by the sudden sound of engines filling the evening sky. With a roar, something that looked like a combination helicopter, airplane, and mechanical dragon flew overhead, followed by two more. These three, along with another vehicle that had not flown overhead, landed at the edge of the crater, each at one of the cardinal directions.Â
âApemon! Get everyone underground!â Dinohumon was running over, followed by Clark and many of the villagers. As they reached the central building, Apemon started herding the smaller Digimon inside and to the hatch. âWhatâs going on?!â he shouted to be heard over the din of panicked young Digimon.
Clark answered, his voice tinged with fear. âItâs the D-Brigadeâ.
Out from the copters leapt Digimon. Looking like little cyborg T. rexes in military gear and holding guns, they quickly spread out to surround the crater and moved inward herding the villagers toward the center. Each copter held five of the smaller Digimon, accompanied by a much larger similar Digimon, this one holding a riot shield in one hand and grenade launcher in the other.Â
âBy order of the D-Brigade, remain where you are or you will be fired upon!â barked one of the larger dinosaurs, its voice amplified as though by a megaphone.Â
âWhat do we do?â whispered Daniel to the clearly frightened Clark.
Clark just shook his head. âThereâs too many of them. Do what they say.â
One formation of the D-Brigade, a large Digimon and five of the smaller ones stepped closer to the group of panicked Villagers.Â
âI am Captain Hi-Commandramon 8A5 of the D-Brigadeâ, the large Dinosaur identified itself. âThe humans will step forward!â
âCome on now, surely thereâs no need for this,â spoke up Apemon.Â
âSilence! You were not given permission to speak!â was the reply, the Hi-Commandramon shouting out every word like it was trying to deafen everyone there.Â
âReally, this is a place of peace,â Insisted Apemon. He took a step forward, toward the D-Brigade. âWhy donât you put away your weapons and we can discuss this like reasonable-â
Apemon never finished his sentence. Hi-Commandramon whipped its grenade launcher around and pulled the trigger. Apemon had just enough time to see the grenade imbed itself in his chest before the top half of his body was obliterated with an explosion that rattled every building in the Caps Lock Crater. The younger Digimon screamed and the humans gasped in horror as the rest of his body dissolved and vanished.Â
Dinohumon fell to their knees and let out a wail of anguish. Keiko had her hands over her mouth and both Daniel and Blue had their mouths hanging open in dumbfounded shock. Only Tsukaimon noticed Clarkâs lack of reaction. Instead, he was staring at one of the smaller dinosaur Digimon standing beside Hi-Commandramon with a look of sadness. The Digimon he was looking at, identifiably by three jagged scars across its snout. The Digimon looked less resolute than its fellows and seemed unwilling to return Clarkâs gaze.Â
âYou didnât have to kill him,â Danielâs voice was low, shaken by shock and horror.Â
âQuiet!â barked Hi-Commandramon. âAll humans, step forward. The rest of you stay put or you will be next!â
âFine, just donât kill anyone, ok?â Daniel stepped forward, hands raised.
âDanny!â Blue made to follow, but stopped at Danielâs order.
âStop. Just do what they say, ok?â
Blue made a terrified whining noise, but obeyed. After a momentâs hesitation, Keiko followed suit, Tsukaimon remaining behind with worry on her face. Clark also stepped forward, keeping his eyes locked on the scarred dinosaur Digimon.Â
âGood. Now stand there and donât move,â said Hi-Commandramon. It then pulled out a walkie-talkie from a pocket in its bulletproof vest and spoke into it. âTargets secured.â
âAnother great victory for the mighty D-Brigade,â Clark finally turned his gaze to Hi-Commandramon, his voice low and dripping with venom. âFour whole units to take a village of baby Digimon and three children? Truly this will go down as one of your finest victoriesâ.
âBe quiet!â Hi-Commandramon aimed its weapon at Clark's chest, but he didnât flinch.
âI donât think so. If you wanted us dead you could have blown up the village from a distance or sniped us in our sleep. You were ordered to bring us in alive, werenât you. And we both know a good soldier obeys orders, right?âÂ
Hi-Commandramon 8A5 stepped forward and placed the barrel of its grenade launcher right against Clarkâs chest. âCorrect,â it snarled. It then aimed the launcher at the crowd of scared Digimon. âBut our orders said nothing about themâ.
Clark gritted his teeth, but did not say anything more.
âDonât hurt them!â Daniel blurted out.
âIf you donât stay quiet I-â
âIâll handle this,â A new voice cut in. Hi-Commandramon instantly stopped talking and took a step to the side, revealing a human boy and a Digimon. The Digimon was a dead ringer for Blue while the human could have been Daniel in a few years. His brown hair had been cut short and his usual clothes had been swapped out for a set of military fatigues, but there was no mistaking him.
âHello, Danny,â said Andrew.
âAndrew!â Daniel exclaimed at the same time Blue shouted âGreen!â, âI was so worried about you, we came to rescue you from them,â he gestured at the D-Brigade.
Andrew smirked. âD-Brigade, two steps backâ.
In the kind of unity only produced through hard training, very single one of the militarized dinosaurs stepped backwards in sequence, their steps ringing out against the metal of the Caps Lock Crater in two loud chimes.
âTwo steps forwardâ.
Another two chimes as the dinosaurs returned to their previous positions.
âHmm, spin aroundâ.
The sight of a bunch of theropods in military gear spinning in place would have been comical if not for the circumstances.Â
âTell me, Danny,â Andrew smugly said, âdo I look like I need rescuing?â
Daniel gaped. He looked at his older brother, then back at the Digimon of the village, most of them weeping in fear and grief, and at the ashen spot where Apemon had been murdered.
âYouâre working with them?â he asked, voice filled with horror and disgust.
âYes,â Andrew replied bluntly, âand I arranged this little meeting to give you a message. Go home.
âWhat? Clark asked incredulously.
âGo home,â Andrew repeated. âI mean you, Danny, and you, Clark, andâ he glanced at Keiko, âwhoever you are. Go home and stay out of my way and youâll be safeâ.Â
Daniel stared at his brother, or whoever this was. Andrew wasnât like this. Andrew could be stern and a bit of a jerk sometimes, but he was also kind, funny, and always wanted to help people with their problems. This Andrew Daniel could barely recognize as his brother.
âWhy?â he managed to choke out, voice quivering.
âBecause the world is broken,â Andrewâs voice finally broke from the eerie calm tone he had been speaking in, becoming bitter and angry. âBoth worlds. Bad things happen to good people and the people in charge are either cruel or stupid. I couldnât do anything about it before, but now, with the D-Brigade, I can make real change.â
âGood people like them?â Clarkâs voice broke in. He gestured to the terrified mass of young Digimon. âThey werenât hurting anyone. They helped each other and lived in peace and your army just murdered one of them. Is that the kind of change you want?â
Andrew just shrugged. âI never said it would be pretty, but if a few good people have to die, then so be it.â
Danielâs arm was in motion before he even knew what was happening. Andrew jumped back, barely avoiding Daniel's fist colliding with his face.
Every D-Brigade member trained their guns on Daniel, but Andrew waved them off. âWoah, Danny,â he said, amused, âDidnât know you had it in ya. But if you want to stop me, then come on. Letâs settle this like DigiDestinedâ. From one pocket he produced a Digivice and looked toward Green the Dracomon, who had been standing there uncharacteristically silent. âLetâs goâ.
Green nodded and stepped forward.
Dracomon Digivolve to⌠Coredramon!
âCome on, Blue!â Danielâs voice was a cross between a snarl and a sob, tears of anger and hurt now flowing down his cheeks.Â
âR- right,â Blue ran forward to join his partner, his voice uncertain and filled with pain.Â
Dracomon Digivolve to⌠Coredramon!
The two dragons stood facing each other, identical except for color, with Blueâs deep blue scales contrasting Greenâs earthen green ones.Â
âWhy are you going along with all this nonsense?â Blue demanded of Gree, of his brother.Â
âBecause,â Green replied calmly, âif you have the power to fix things and donât use it, that makes you as bad as the ones who abuse their powerâ.
âEnough,â yelled Daniel, âWeâre going to drag him home with us and make him stop all this!â
âRight!â Blue shot out one clawed hand toward Greenâs face, but the older dragon deflected the blow. The next several strikes were similarly blocked.
Blue leapt back from his brother. âThatâs it, take this! Blue Flare Breath!â
Just as the stream of blue fire began to exit Blueâs mouth, Green shot forward and uppercutted him in the jaw. Blueâs head was forced upward, his jaws slammed shut with a clash. A split second later, the flames forced his jaw open again as they shot out, the force knocking him off-balance.
âStrike Bomber!â Green did not let the opportunity pass him by. He swung around, his tail colliding with Blueâs abdomen with enough force to rattle windows all around the crater. Blue flew backwards, crashing into one of the makeshift houses and landing in a heap of rubble.Â
âYou canât win,â Andrew said, his voice almost mocking. âYou donât have the experience. You've been in what, one fight? We saved the Digital World, remember? You canât beat us.â
âShut up! Blue Flare Breath!â From his position lying in the rubble, Blue spat a stream of cerulean flames at Green. The other dragon responded with his own flames, these an emerald green. The two attacks slammed into each other and exploded, scattering multicolored cinders around the village.Â
âHell with this! Keiko!â Tsukaimon shouted. Her partner nodded and held up her Digivice.Â
Tsukaimon Digivolve to⌠Witchmon!
Mounted on her broom, the doll-like witch flew into battle, unleashing a Baluluna Gale that sent a whirlwind of rubble, soil, and stones at Green. The dragon was forced to turn his back to the gale, hands over his face as the shrapnel cut scratches all over his rock-hard scales. In doing so, he failed to notice an enraged Blue flying right at him. The blue dragon collided with the green one, slamming him to the ground with enough force to dent the metal of the crater.Â
âNot so cocky now, are you?â Witchmon teased Green. She levitated overhead, her arm outstretched and ready to unleash another spell while Blue pinned his big brotherâs arms behind his back.
âItâs over, Andrew,â Daniel yelled. âGive up!â
Andrew glared at his little brother, then sighed. âI guess I have to show you just how outmatched you areâ. Out from a pocket, Andrew pulled a small, diamond-shaped pendant. A crest, with the symbol of three curved lines a forest green in color etched into it.
Clarkâs eyes widened in horror. âGet out of there!â
Coredramon Digivolve to⌠Groundramon!
The force of Greenâs transformation flung Blue into the sky and unleashed a wave of displaced air that knocked over a row of houses and all the humans except Andrew. When the glow of Digivolution faded, Green had become a dragon the size of a jet plane, his bulk filling nearly a quarter of the Caps Lock Crater. Now standing on all fours, his wings had transformed into massive arms, tipped with razor-sharp red talons. On his legs were powerful pile bunkers and on his tail, which stretched out beyond the rim of the crater, was a mace the size of a van tipped with deadly spikes.Â
âThis is power!â Andrew yelled in triumph. âThis is what you can never match!â
Blue and Witchmon, suspended in midair, gaped at the colossal dragon. They were snapped out of it by one of Greenâs arms taking a swing at them, forcing them to fly further up to avoid the blow.Â
âListen Blue,â Witchmon said. âLook at his wings. I reckon he canât fly with those. As long as we stay up here, I don't think he can get usâ.
Blue nodded, then he flew left while Witchmon flew right.Â
âBlue Flare Breath!â âAquary Pressure!â
Two streams, one of blue fire and one of pressurized water shot toward Green. His great arms moved to block the attacks, which left scratches in his verdant scales. Green roared at the two aerial foes, but he did not attack.
âItâs working! Keep it up, weâll wear his scaly ass down!âÂ
Witchmon and Blue circled the crater in the sky, intermittently shooting down an attack at the titanic dragon. From the shelter of his wing arms, Green studied them. Watching for something, a pattern.
Ah, there it is.
Greenâs arms slammed into the metal ground of the crater and each ripped up a chunk of stone and steel. Flexing muscles as hard as diamond, he flung the two projectiles up at the circling duo. Unable to react in time, Blue and Witchmon collided with the clunks, which exploded into gravel and splintered metal.Â
Daniel and Keiko screamed as the partners fell from the sky. Green once again raised his arms and slammed them into the ground, but this time, he did not dig them in. Instead, the force propelled his massive body upwards in a mighty leap. Each arm grabbed onto one of the two falling Digimon. Green fell back down to the ground like a meteor, the force of his landing shaking the whole crater and bringing down what remained of the village. Green flung the two Digimon at their partners. Witchmon and Blue crashed into the ground at Daniel and Keikoâs feet, unconscious. They de-Digivolved into Dracomon and Tsukaimon as their humans ran forward, grabbing their partners and pulling them into their arms.
âBlue! Blue, are you ok?â Daniel sobbed, hugging his partner tight. Only the soft sound of his partner breathing confirmed that the little dragon was still alive.Â
A shadow fell over Daniel and he looked up to see Andrew standing over him.
âNow do you see, Danny? Youâre weak. Go home, thereâs nothing you can do here,â Andrewâs voice displayed no emotion, only cold certainty. âI let Blue live this time. Interfere again, and you might not be so luckyâ.
Daniel couldnât even respond as the thing that had been his brother turned and walked away. âD-Brigade, weâre done here. Take me to the General,â He said as he left.
The D-Brigade and Green, having de-Digivolved back into Dracomon, turned on their heels and walked toward the dragon helicopters they arrived in. Just before they reached them, Clarkâs voice rang out.Â
âCommandramon!â
The scarred dinosaur turned to look back. Clark glared at him, his face a mix of rage and sorrow, The two stared at each other for a second. Commandramonâs expression softened and for a second he appeared about to say something.
âCommandramon 1G1! Get back in formation!â barked Captain Hi-Commandramon 8A5. Without a word, the scarred Commandramon turned and followed the rest of the D-Brigade into their vehicles. WIth the roar of engines, the dragon copters took off and flew away across the desert, leaving the Caps Lock Crater in the quiet night.

i'm just gonna go ahead and paste what i sent to a friend about my thoughts for chapter 3 and the bit of 4 i got to today
this is extremely long, and still primarily a lot of criticism since while i enjoyed chapter 3 more than the first two chapters, it failed to address a lot of my core concerns with the writing of chapters 1 and 2.
for people who missed my chapter 2 thoughts, Sad White Boy is Leon
i typed most of this on my phone without being able to reference the spellings of any of the names i was hearing so it isn't until the end that i'm able to double check the name of Shuu/Xu Yulin. any time i am referring to Professor Suspicious Eccentric, it's Professer Ryusenji. agufridge is Saya.
you can also see kind of where i got to certain plot points between breaks lol.
[Okay chapter 3 is going along way more smoothly to us but also we officially have a never before seen phrase because the best way I can put it is that all three main factions have the same Agumon-fridged wife/daughter/friend fueling their obsession with the digital world]
[All of the world building so far has also been exclusively around the tragedy that set in motion all three factions going about their way and it's more clearly establishing a theme of, like, the ways paths diverge in life. First there was Eiji and Sad White Boy, now Professor Suspicious Eccentric, his would be son in law Tartarus (who I know is going to pull some villain shit after glancing at the wiki for something yesterday), and Cop Lady (who, while being a cop, I do actually like the characterization she's been given. Shame about the being a digicop though.).
Tartarus's fiance went DMIA while mind linked to what I'm guessing is the BlackAgumom SOC has a stupid high bounty on, hence me saying there's an Agumon shaped fridge
At least I don't have to deal with Sad White Boy
Who is in a Kazuchimon shaped fridge I should specify but like. It doesn't feel like fridging when you give a whole quarter of you narrative to establishing a character as opposed to like. An hour on Agufridge.]
[At least I have something other than Eiji to look forward to in this novel lmfao
But also man. They really are leaning heavy into Eiji having a huge amount of regret for what happened to Sad White Boy and like. I think we're meant to see it in parallel to Agufridge, but she was established to be RECENTLY AND PROLONGEDLY CLOSE with all involved parties affected by her fridging.
And I just don't buy it even if SWB saved Eiji's life from drowning in a river when they were kids.]
[i also realized a succinct way of putting why he feels so gross to me is that his whole plotline really edges into "white savior complex" territory, if that makes sense?
fully convinced seekers is just flat out better without SWB
because like it has its problems but damn if SWB isn't just a walking sandwich of them all in a single succinct package]
one real world "i got home from work" later
[Okay so this observation I made about almost all of the Digipol forces being members of the D-Brigade (most are literally just commandramon) made me a little bit frustrated with an element I see as missed potential in seekers that I doubt will be capitalized on. The only members of DigiPol with fully realized characters are Satsuki (Numemon's partner) and Shuu Yulin (Ryudamon's partner, Cop Lady), who are both high ranking officers, and were this not really struggling to decide whether it wants to condemn or fuck the police, I think it would've been a missed opportunity not to at least show the experiences of one of the lower ranking officers. Shuu, while being the head of the DPol, was formerly a hacker/code cracker before going on to do white hat hacking with the police and rising to her position.
But like, something Satsuki's said during the first hour or so of chapter 4 made me wonder something because there are members of the DPol that Mind Link. At least two of them with Commandramons, which puts them in the body of their Digimon. Satsuki calls what they're doing in Chapter 4 a "war"--- they're fighting against SoC and Wall Slum (local) Digimon alike because the SoC is trying to break open the gate into the Actual Digital World (basically everything humans have seen is the outside of an eggshell). I don't think Seekers is self-aware enough to realize that this act of the DigiPol imposing their forces on the Wall Slum is akin to digital imperialism, so I really doubt it would have tried to interrogate that at all.
The thing I was thinking about that might have been interesting (but absolutely could not be trusted to Seekers) is that like⌠all of the DPol Digimon are Commandramon, whereas the brass have Special Partner Digimon. I would have loved some interrogation into the way that being a cop (or military in general) seeks to depersonalize someone, stripping them of their individuality in order to make them more a tool than person. Commandramon could have been a very useful way to tell that story, especially since anyone MLed to a Digimon always has to wear their Digimon Linker. That means they are always burdened with the reminder of their function in the force. MLed partners are also the only ones to experience the Wall Slum with the five human senses. What does it do to someone to see through the eyes of just one of hundreds of Commandramon, all literally looking the same to an untrained human eye? You're literally nothing but the tool you embody at that point, only so useful as you can wield your Digimon like one. MLed Digimon are also the only ones that can talk to humans. Do you think the Commandramon who aren't MLed wish they could talk to their partners, express anything beyond following the commands the code running on them like dog training tells them to enact?
What is individuality to a Digimon who is a soldier? What is individuality to a soldier who is only as good as their Digimon, one of a thousand like it raised only for warfare?
It just bugs me so much thatt we don't even get an inkling of individuality from the Commandramon, which really heightens the militaristic feel of the D-Pol to no positive favors.
And since I can'tt tell if Seekers wants me to like the DPol or not, it's hard to judge whether that is a failure or intended attribute of the writing]
[i really hope i have more things that i can say i actually like about seekers but man oh man the bad is so hard to get through
like, for example, i really find the structure of the digital world interesting in this series! and mind linking is an interesting way to get characters involved in the digital world without having the barrier breached (while also introducing stakes). even if i am a little sad that the humans get stuck as fancy holograms in the digital world.
the digital world in seekers, like i said before, is basically an egg, with the network of the human world floating high above it
data falls from the human world onto the egg's surface, but the barrier is functionally closed off
digimon that have been in contactt with human world data are forced to live on the outside of the digital world, unable to return to the Actual digital world
this is the Wall Slum
and like, on occasion little pockets of open data storms, breaches in the eggshell will appear--- they're called vortexes
we don't find out what's in them until when sad white boy martyrs himself but like, anynthing that enters them gets presumed deleted
SWB's death is how we find out that it's because a royal knight will pop up to erase anything trying to breach the vortex
(they also keep describing the RKs as their relationship to "yggdrasil" so like. god help me i'm holding my breath and praying i don't have to go into that.)
they haven't talked at all and seem to be regarded as "angels of death" to those on the shell of the digital world
bringing it back around to how it's introduced, though, i think about that self-oblivious introduction to the digital world and digipol where humans (possibly the implication was supposed to be just code crackers but idk) through their interaction with the digital world, have brought impurities to the digital world. they even repeated during chapter 3, in the extended flashback to project tartarus and the first DMIA candidate (miss agufridge), the comparison to "15th century seafaring explorers" or something which. hm. are you self aware enough to really be pulling that comparison twice? i don't think you are.
so like, even when i'm enjoying the shit in seekers it inevitably ends up ruined by the story's own lack of coherent nuance (or functional attempt at it)]

what are your favorite digimon cards
I guess currently, the DigiPolice? Like, I have a entire set of Jesmon cards (Huckmon, BaoHuckmon, SaviourHuckmon, Jesmon, Gankoomon, the Sistermon and so forth), and I plan on making a Rosemon X deck fully, but my favs at the moment is Digipolice - which contains cards like Ryudamon, Ginryumon, Hisaryumon, Oryumon, Numemon, Commandramon, Hi-Commandramon, Cargodramon, and Brigdramon. They synergize quite well when you get going with them.

One day I was scrolling tumblr and I stumbled across an idea by cloudypinkblink and I wanted to take my own crack at it.
Essentially itâs a swap au where Marcus, Thomas, and Yoshino swap roles with Kouki, Nanami and Ivan. So in this universe The bio hybrids get Digimon partners and our DATS trio become Biohybrids and work for Kurata.
Partner lines
Kouki: Commandramon -> Sealsdramon -> Tankdramon -> Darkdramon
I imagine Kouki in this universe to be ranging from a delinquent or even a small low tier criminal. Heâs just the type of guy to constantly get in trouble with the police. Here he is much more willing to help others and he meets his partner Commandramon after saving him from a more intimidating Digimon. However he is still hotheaded and very arrogant, but has high amount of determination. After he evolves Commandramon into Sealsdramon, he gets arrested by DATS members and is allowed to be free if he works for DATS from now on.
Commandramon in this is essentially a goofy but loyal soldier. Similar to how Agumon calls Marcus boss or Aniki, Commandramon would constantly call him Sir or Kouki sir as he views Kouki as his general. At first Kouki wants to use Commandramon to help him but does bond with the military dragon.
Nanami: Floramon -> Woodmon -> Ajatarmon -> Lotusmon
Nanami takes the role of Thomas here. In this universe I imagine her coming from nothing rather then being rich like Thomas is. Sheâs very hard working and highly values perfection above all else. This pressure of being perfect also extends to her partner with her sometimes being too harsh on her for any errors. She doesnât get along well with Kouki at first, in fact they are worst then Marcus and Thomas in terms of rivalry at first. But help one another when they bond, With Kouki learning to think before he leaps and Nanami learning to be less hard on herself and others.
Floramon is an extremely shy but very sweet Digimon. She is also very clumsy but tries her best to hide that fact from Nanami. Eventually she will become more confident as the series goes on and Nanami will treat her better. They basically have a Shuji and Lopmon thing going on except itâs a bit less bad, not by much tho, Could be good dark digivolution potential.
Ivan: Gizamon -> Ebidramon -> Anomalocarimon -> Spinomon
Ivan here is the Dad friend of the trio and is honestly the only thing that keeps Nanami and Kouki from killing each other in the beginning, I also like to think whenever they argue Ivan would jokingly refer to them as a âLovers spatâ to which they stop arguing and turn their anger at him. Like in canon, He is very much a family man. He joined DATS as a way to support his family but eventually starts to love the job. He is also the one to meet Kouki like how Yoshino meets Marcus in canon. Heâs smarter then in canon, tho he still isnât that bright. He doesnât say stuff out loud unless heâs extremely nervous.
Gizamon would be a bit more cynical then his partner. Heâs the brain to Ivanâs brawn in this case. While not outwardly friendly to most, he still capable of doing good and hopes to help Ivan with his family matters. His siblings like to play with him a lot and he enjoys it to, but heâll never admit that tho.
For the lines I decided to lean into the mega sand ignore the armors as I really wanted to use Commandramon. But if you want to include the armors here is some alternative lines involving them.
Kouki: Hawkmon -> Thunderbirmon -> Megadramon -> Darkdramon
Nanami: Wormmon -> Coatlmon -> Arukenimon -> Lotusmon
Ivan: Armadillomon -> Stegomon -> Triceramon -> Spinomon
As for Marcus, Thomas, and Yoshino, They are now working for Kurata. I could see Thomas being Kurataâs second in command and being the first to join. Yoshino would be second to join him and perhaps we could have her try to manipulate Ivan tho I donât see what purpose that could serve, maybe to cause others not to trust him perhaps. Still working on it.
Marcus would be the third to join, We could have him involved in the story with Kouki as an old friend of the Daimons with Marcus and Kouki having a brotherly bond. After the whole Garudamon debacle, Marcus nearly dies with Kouki saving him by digivolving into Tankdramon. Marcus would find out about his dad and want to go to the digital world to find him but Sarah adamantly refuses due to Marcus nearly dying and not having a Digimon partner. It would then escalate into a much more heated version of the scene with Sarah and Marcus talking about Marcus going into the digital world.
Marcus would then storm out the house and ask Kouki to take him to the digital world. Kouki would refuse out of not wanting to see Marcus getting hurt. This would then have Kurata come to Marcus and manipulate him into becoming a bio hybrid.
As for their bio hybrid forms following the theme of Armor and Mega
Marcus: BioFlamedramon and Biodorbickmon
Thomas: BioKangurumon and BioAnubimon
Yoshino: BioKabukimon and BioCeresmon
I also have other ideas to further this swap concept to make this universe sound more interesting then canon.
Keenan is not becoming a bio hybrid so maybe here we can have Kristy and Keenan swap partners here with Keenan getting Biyomon and Kristy getting Falcomon.
Maybe even swap roles with Kristy becoming a jungle girl further hammering in Sarahâs protection of Marcus. Probably will only swap partners but it could be fun.
Kristy: Pinamon -> Falcomon -> Saberdramon -> Vulturemon
Keenan: Biyomon -> Aquilamon -> Garudamon -> Valkryimon (Maybe have Valdurmon as a burst mode?)
Another reverse idea is how the royal knights are a big thing in data squad and we also have Merukimon who is a member of the Olympus 12. So maybe we could have Sleipmon and Merukimon swap around and have the main final threat be the Olympus 12 rather then the royal knights.
Richard Sampson: Kudamon -> Reppamon -> Kyukimon -> Merukimon
We would also have Homeros over Yggdrasil as Homeros is the creator of the Olympus 12.
Maybe even have Kurata become Titamon perhaps as Belphemon is more of an enemy to the royal knights and him becoming Titamon, the enemy of the Olympus 12 would further cement him being a threat and enemy to the digital world.
And with Yoshino becoming BioCeresmon it could make for some good lore potential, Maybe you could have Ceresmon in the role of Frigimon and kill her off, then have Kurata use her data alongside Yoshino. This could be a pretty interesting and dark.
